I think we’ve talked about this before but let’s talk about it again. 2x6. What are your thoughts- did Eliza stay the whole time through surgery? Is it the same day or a different day (why is their money is his drawer lol)?

Also Eliza is frequently painted as selfish or some variation of that- but she’s with Patrick here (and also William when he’s shot) when she doesn’t have to be. She doesn’t get enough credit for that.

I frequently think about how they could have had anyone else be shot- Mr Potts! Moses! Oliver! a random person! But they had Patrick Nash be the person who is shot and it helps advance their relationship forward and aaahhh WHY.

WAIT. Is this Patrick’s first opportunity to observe Eliza and William up close?????? We know he works with William separately (or at least, William hires him) but I don’t think there were any even implied off-screen opportunities for him to watch the dynamic between Eliza and William? He knows they’re close- probably learned that from the detective he had follow Eliza.

I know @blacklister214 has written about the way Patrick seems to purposefully antagonize William in this episode. But I think the secondary thing he’s doing is trying to really read what the hell is going on with Eliza and William

Felix Scott has been playing Nash as an interested rival to Duke from the very beginning and I just had to post a gif of this moment. The micro expressions on his face here are the pinnacle of brilliant acting. I zoomed in a bit because they wanted him in the background, so you'd really be looking in the wrong direction to focus on him in this scene... *lol I'm always looking in the wrong direction*

Anywho, I just had to share these thoughts with anyone out there who cares to listen.

AND ANOTHER THING…the sequence of events in 2x6 is interesting. Eliza agrees to work for Patrick after Mrs. Parker’s speech to her about memories of a busy life and having no money. Money is definitely Eliza’s primary concern and it’s not spinsterhood that scares her, it’s the lack of money. So she goes to Patrick, who, like Ivy said, offered to pay her more for work she’s already doing.

The other option for Eliza (hypothetically because of course she wouldn’t do this) would be to find a suitable man and get married- and that’s always been implied to be William. He has a good career and could support her.

She doesn’t go to him. She goes to Patrick. Because she’s going to make her career work, one way or another. The juxtaposition between Patrick and William is baked into the series. And she chooses Patrick- what he represents anyway (her ambition, her career) every time. I think it would be great to see that choosing her career doesn’t mean she can’t choose love too, and who better than Patrick for her, who would never interfere with her career and who clearly cares about her?
