Today is World Inflammatory Bowel Disease day. I wanted to share a little of my story with you about how Crohn's disease has affected me the past 3 years. The first picture of my face is in the winter of 2014 after my diagnosis of Crohn's in the summer of that same year. I had been on high doses of steroids that gave me the lovely moon face. 🌝 💊 I went through several oral medications in the beging to try and induce remision. Drugs like Prednisone and azathioprine and balsalazide. My liver did not respond well to the oral medications so I moved on to biologics. 💉 I tried several injectable biologics including Cimzia and Humira. Sadly I could not achieve remision with those. So I moved on to infusion biologics. I tried Remicade for a long time at all reasonable doses until I had to move on and try Entyvio. Still I didn't achieve remision. 🏥 I ended up consulting with a colo-rectal surgeon in St. Louis. I had just expected to have maybe a resection of my colon. But he thought it best to take the whole thing. In March of 2016 I have a total colectomy. And was left with an end ileostomy. I loved my end ileostomy. It gave me my life back. I had the option to do an IPAA surgery (j-pouch surgery). I thought that it would be nice to have all of my guts inside again. 😆 The second ileostomy pic if of my demon loop ileostomy. I hated that thing. The J-pouch surgerys were tough but it so nice to poop out of my butt again! Recently I have been struggling with pouchitis and depression. My Crohn's is in remision but I an still on Entyvio for maintenance. Thank you for taking the time to read my story! I hope it has given you some insight to what IBD really is. . . . . . . . . . #mystory #worldibdday #crohnsdisease #cronnie #crohns #colitis #biologics #entyvio #remicade #jpouch #ipaa #depression #ibd #moonface #prednisone #scarrednotscared #scarred #colon #medical #ileostomy #loopileostomy #surgery #mylife #ccfa #ccfuk #livewellworldibd #worldibd #worldibdday2017
