I don’t like getting intense over petty things, but why are people calling large paragraphs “bad formatting” now. It’s just formatting. Sometimes, a larger paragraph serves its text well, and sometimes it doesn’t, and there is a LOT more that goes into making a text block readable than length alone.

Please please please fucking please stop inventing all-encompassing arbitrary rules about what features define “good” art and “bad” art.

i don't really have a good answer for you, i'm afraid - i'm a speed-reader, so i naturally just... finish books a lot faster than most people. it helps that i have a pretty long commute to work, so i often tear through half a book on the way there and half on the way back. but i do get it; it's frustrating when you really want to do something and your brain just won't let you focus on it. i know for some people with short attention spans audiobooks are the way forward, or ebooks, or reading a few pages every night before bed. you could also join a reading group, which is a nice way to meet people, and gives you an incentive to finish the book instead of giving up three pages in.

but the main thing to remember (i know it sounds cliché, i'm sorry) is that reading should be fun, not a source of shame. i've seen people trying to meet their "100 books a year" reading challenge by just picking books that are short and easy so they can cram in as many as possible. which is daft, because it doesn't matter if you read a hundred books in a year, or ten, or one. or none! it's not a contest, you know? so long as you're enjoying yourself it's all gravy, baby

Hmm... I suppose it would depend on what you're looking for. For angsty fics, I mainly just read one-shots that have to do with severe mental health issues/struggles. So if mental stuff may be triggering or if you want more of a long-form fic recommendation I'm not sure I have any

i deleted youtube off my phone a month ago because i would get too easily sucked into youtube shorts for hours straight even if i was actively trying to avoid them and focus on actual videos.

so now i only watch youtube on my computer or tablet

One of my least favorite things about myself is that I hyperfixate hard and fast. I burn out my fascination with something over the course of like a month and a half and then go through a depressive episode because I have nothing to live for. And then I snap out of it, am normal for about two weeks, and then inevitably find a new hyperfixation (or revamp the same one).
