I would have told you that all heroes aren’t dicks. He signed back, chewing on his lip for a moment. I mean, I would have until recently...

So, All Might saved me from a villain, and...I asked him if someone quirkless can be a hero. He...said no, and to be more realistic. Pausing then, he took a breath to steady himself, hiding his shaking hands for a moment.

“ALL MIGHT, STOP!” The fact he screamed it, the words ripped through usually silent mouth made it that much worse.

In Katsuki’s defence, he was probably right about that. It was way, way too late in the night for Izuku to be awake and probably should be asleep. Instead, he was very much awake, scribbling in his notebook on his dorm’s porch. Making more support item designs that his brain simply won’t shut it about.

Izuku jumped a couple of feet in the air at the voice, especially when he realised who exactly was talking to him. Glancing upwards, his hands slowly rose to respond.

What...are you doing at the support dorms this late at night, Kacchan? Words carefully signed, ensuring his hands were under the lamp above his head. And...you should probably be asleep too, you know. Eyes betraying him and displaying a range of emotions, shutting his invention notebook.

Well, it was time. Izuku had finally made it to U.A - maybe not in the class he originally dreamed about, but that didn’t matter. He’s gonna be the Greatest Support Hero, no matter what anyone says...!

So distracted in his entire thoughts, Izuku accidentally bumps into anothher couple of stuudents. A tiny noise escaped his mouth; his hands signing apologies over and over as the pair turned around. Oh gosh, Izuku almost flinched backwards at the taller. dual coloured hair boy - he was so tall, and intimidating, like Katsuki... still, he kept signing sorry - he was unsure if they understood, but a quick bow before sprinting towards his classroom might have gotten the message across.

Upon entering, he was soon to realise it was a pick your own workbench arrangement - Izuku hesitated, not knowing where was the best place. Looking around, his eyes fell on someone familiar - one of the students he bumped into! Well, the other wasn’t here - maybe a different course? But still, it was the only place left..

Izuku headed over, one hand pulling out his fresh “communications” notebook - he liked to start a new book with each school year. His soare and pulled a green pen from behind his ear, flicking to the first page and beginning to write.

Hello! Is it okay if I take this bench? I’m really sorry for bumping into you earlier! I wasn’t looking where I was going..

At this point, it would be more out of character for Izuku to not remain behind in the Support Lab when class was over. He liked to finish what he started working on that day, or use the time to fill out more of his notebooks. Despite not aiming for heroics anymore, he still liked to write about Quirks. Now, he used his analysis skills to make the perfect gear he could for any types of Quirks.

Ramen was curled up in his own personal space underneath Izuku’s desk - once the therapy dog had been given to Izuku, Power Loader had taken the oppertunity to swap out Izuku’s workstation, one that allowed the golden retriever to curl up and keep watch over his owner. Izuku had, of course, gone overboard in making the space under the bench a comfortable place - filled with a bed, some toys and room for food and water bowls. he may have even gone so far to put some fairy lights under the desk.

It was Ramen who noticed the newcomer first, since Izuku had his noise-cancelling headphones on as he worked. Hopping up, Ramen sniffed a bit before getting Izuku’s attention by leaning into his side. Looking up, he jumped and carefully slid the headphones from his ears before realising a new problem. He’d lost his notebook in all the mess. Thankfully, he opened one of Ramen’s pockets - he’d had his working dog vest custom made to have large pockets - to pull out an emergency notebook and pen, scribbling down a note.

Um...Hi. Power Loader has already gone home for the day - uh, I can leave a message for him, or....?

A guide to Mute!Izuku's pen colours! These represent his mood when writing.

Green - His favourite! His default colour also tends to use it more when he's in a good mood.

Red - Angry. Something has gotten under his skin. Good chance his writing will become more scrawled.

Yellow - Curious. Likes to use it when asking questions about your quirk.

Purple - Feeling a little under the weather / down day. Sometimes he swaps to sign on these days and prefers not to write at all.

Black - Official documents - school essays, forms, etc. Also can be used as a "help" signal, since it's so rare to see him write in black-

Got you these!" He held out a gift bag which had two All Might themed clothes, one was a oversized hoodie and the other was a t-shit.

There’s a huge giggle from Zuku as he’s lifted into the air by the older twin, his legs swinging a little before he’s set back down. Comapred to his twin, he was a bit of a twig...still, that’s what happened when Zuku went into the Support Department while Izuku decided to go into Heroics.

He took the offered bag, gasping a little in delight. Oversized hoodies are honestly his favourite thing, pulling it on right there and then. He adored the t-shirt as well, grinning. Thank you...! He signs. He absolutely adored them.

There wasn’t a verbal response - actually, it was getting close to the decade mark that Izuku had last spoken verbally. For a moment, he just squeezed tighter, hesitating a little before raising his hands right back. It took...another few seconds for Izuku to begin signing.

I met All Might today. He began. He decided to leave out the part about the sludge villain and what happened with Kacchan at school. He’d already caused his Mother enough pain by him being Quirkless, and going Mute as a result. He paused, gathering this thoughts, and steeling himself. I asked him if I could become a hero...and he said no.

He froze then, his throat constricting, a small gasp - clenching his eyes shut, trying not to let more tears spill over. He said....for someone without a Quirk....and someone who doesn’t speak....it’s pretty much impossible. Yeah, a few tears come tumbling down. His jaw tightened, refusing to let a sound escape, fighting against shaking breaths.

I....I still want to go to U.A. He explained slowly, his hands now trembling in the attempt to do the signing. His writing would probably be worse, so he pushed on with sign. But....I’m gonna be a Support Hero instead. I want...I want to make Support Items that makes sure that anyone, no matter what...can be a hero.

while we’re on the subject, remember that izuku, after being told to end his life by Kacchan, was also left on a ROOF by all might after being told someone mute and quirkless has no chance of being a hero :)

let’s also talk about, since he didn’t go to the sludge villain fight, he spent the next week at home with absolutely no goal in life and thought about it. that was until inko brought him home a support item for beginners kit, and izuku discovered a love for inventing

oh, he’s going to u.a. just not in the way anyone expected - he’d be the greatest support hero, making items so anyone can be a hero, despite what anyone says!

Blinking owlishly in the soft light coming from his mentor’s room, there’s a small sniff as Izuku entered fully, letting the door shut behind him with a soft click. There was a couple of seconds of shuffling as he steps into the light the lamp gave off, ensuring his hands were illuminated so he was able to ‘speak’.

I’m sorry, All Might. I had a bad dream. His explanation was quiet, head downcast as if hiding his face. For good reason, the remnants of tears all too obvious. It was the training camp all over again, except...everyone got....a-and you were there, too. I couldn’t do anything, I...

Shaking his head, gulping a little, he stares upwards and met his mentors eyes. Would it be okay if I stayed here for a bit? I just...I couldn’t exactly check everyone’s room, so I just came here. You can go back to sleep...! I just...I can’t sleep again after that and I don’t want to be on my own.

if anyone needs him, he’s currently rolling a ball for ramen across the common room. there may or may not be quiet giggles as he watches the dog trip over his own paws in the attempt to get the ball; alongside more laughter as he gets puppy hugs.

mute!izu now officially has a support dog! I’ve been playing with this idea for ages but wanted to make a post announcing it. I’ll be adding it to his verse page later on, but here’s the basic-

it’s a golden retriever he named ramen! he got the dog after joining U.A’s support course. trained to help with his anxiety and support him emotionally - ramen is able to understand non-verbal commands alongside verbal commands. he’s trained to detect izuku’s mood and step in with calming techniques when needed to ground and reassure. he’s also helping izuku learn that it’s okay to use his voice, so very, very rarely izuku will practice verbal commands. helping him regain his voice! it’s rare he uses his voice at all, but he does have the desire to one day speak.

izuku often takes ramen on long walks around campus and basically is inseparable from his pal! since ramen is a working dog, he is allowed to accompany izuku in his classes and around the school. oh, they often play catch or fetch and izuku can, and will, make inventions to launch balls really far for ramen, don’t test him -

Izuku’s sitting at his desk, scribbling away in one of his “Hero Analysis for the Future” Notebooks, a second “Communications” Notebook open near his outstretched palm. His body condition gave away it was before he met All Might: rather, he was back in Middle School all over again, half-hiding in his dark collar. Ramen was also noticeably missing; the pup not being present until shortly after entering U.A.

Seemingly finishing his notes for the moment, Izuku hastily packed his Communications Notebook into his backpack, alongside his pens. There was generally no need for this notebook on the way home, though he tucked his favourite green pen into an easy reach pocket just in case. He’s reaching to put the Hero Analysis notebook back into place in his bag before it is snatched from his grip, turning wide-eyed at the action.

Of course, it was no other than Bakugou Katsuki that had taken the book, heart leaping into his throat at the realisation. ‘Kacchan!’ he desperately signed, reaching for the book back. ‘It’s not funny, give it back-’

A simple explosion from a palm combined with a push made Izuku fall backwards, the book held just out of reach. A comment from a lackey nearby, an indication that they couldn’t understand - or unwilling - to learn sign language and his communications notebook was currently unreachable, then again, they tended to ignore his desperate writing there too.

All he could do was watch in mute horror as his notebook was exploded in Kacchan’s palms and then thrown out the nearest window, Izuku’s hand pathetically reaching after it. A silent look of horror, staring after it and turning back around. Facing a very clearly angry Kacchan.

“You know you’ll never get into U.A without a Quirk, Deku? You can’t even talk to anyone, talking with that stupid fucking notebook, it’s pathetic!”

He’s heard those words before, but they still cut, gazing downwards at red sneakers. Still, the next words were a shock even to Izuku. He’d never gone this far before.

“You know, Deku....there’s a way you can get a Quirk. Pray you’ll get a Quirk in your next life, and take a swan dive from the roof of the building!”

And then they’re gone, leaving Izuku alone with his thoughts.

Really? That hadn’t got his attention? Oh, he wanted to just shake his shoulders a little bit, leaning over slightly to get an insight as to what he was writing at such an inhuman speed. Lips pursed as he glanced at the work, almost laughing when the pencil snapped.

Taking the offered opportunity with both hands, he gently tapped his brother’s shoulder, putting an All-Might themed pencil down for him to use instead. Lips pushed into a small smile while scooping up the notebook that hit the floor.

His cousin’s door creaked open as Izuku poked his head in, trying to make sure the bright light from the hallway didn’t hit Tenko’s eyes. Inko had told him his adopted brother was feeling sick, but she had to work - so of course Izuku had volunteered to say home to look after the other. Tenko would do the same for him, after all.

Sitting carefully on the edge of the bed, Izuku quickly gave him a poke to ensure he was awake before raising his hands. Do you need anything? Without waiting for a verbal response, he’d placed a cloth in some cold water and placed it over the older’s forehead. That should help bring the fever down. I have medicine here too, if you can take it...

He had to pause as Ramen hopped up onto the bed, Izuku not able to stop him - promptly curling up next to the sick teenager. Ah. I guess Ramen wants to help, too....cuddles with him always make me feel better.
