Howdy-do!
So, I've been silently observing Adventures in Odyssey online community for a few years now and I’ve finally decided to join the conversation since everyone in my real life isn’t particularly interested in my thoughts on the show.
Okidoki I don’t know much about tumblr etiquette but I figure putting a pinned post with my general deal is helpful. IDK
I’ve been an AiO fan since I was little. My first CD albums were the 1st one and the then latest one #52. I also had a bunch of early episodes on cassette. I accessed the other episodes through my local public library and on the Whit’s end website. Although since 2020 I’ve been primarily using the club. I have listened to practically every episode. The only exceptions being a few family portrait episodes I haven’t taken the time to listen to, and the ones that are basically banned like B-TV Grace.
Right before the big fan podcast boom in 2020 I did binge a whole bunch of the older fan podcasts including the Unofficial Podcast and the Ceiling Fan.
I draw fanart but am still deciding on how and when I want to share it.
I guess the last important thing would be by name. It’s a reference to Tuesdays with Wooton. Ms. Drummond is the lady who works at the thrift store and she is one of the most relatable characters for me. I feel “somebody who can remember so much, yet so little” in my bones. IDK I think that sums it up

Buckethead (An AIO Crossover)
472 words. Also on AO3 and FF.net. Just a little ficlet, but I think it's kind of fun. Enjoy!
~~*~~
Bernard whistled a little tune as he got his equipment out of his truck. For a second, he wasn’t quite sure what song it was. Right, that was that old song those folks were singing earlier, wasn’t it? he thought to himself, starting to remember. Heh! Though why they didn’t wanna TALK about the guy when they just SANG a whole song about him, I’m sure I don’t know.
Well, as soon as he’d gotten everything he thought he needed, he double-checked. “All right, we’ve got the rag, we got paper towels, all the cleaning supplies—” (he went over them once again just to make sure he didn’t miss one), “—yep, all of them, the squeegee, and—”
Bernard blinked. He scanned over the objects on the tailgate of his truck. But the thing he was looking for wasn’t there.
“Wha—now, where did—?” He frowned, and rummaged through the rest of the stuff in the back of the truck. Not there. Then he went around to the front and checked in the cab. Still not there. He walked around the whole vehicle to see if he’d gotten it out and left it someplace. But nothing. He was stomping by the time he got back to the other stuff.
“Well, open me a magic door and call me a Madrigal, I know I wouldn’t have just gone and left it at home! And I thought I saw it here just a min—”
It hit him.
“Never mind.” He facepalmed, then stormed off toward Whit’s End, yelling, “Bruno! Ahh, where’s that buckethead—BRUNO!”
~~*~~
Inside Whit’s End…
Wooton was just heading to the counter for another licorice milkshake when he bumped into somebody. “Oh!” He snorted. “Sorry about that.”
The man nodded.
“Hey, cool buckethead.”
“Thanks,” came a thick voice from under the bucket.
“My name’s Wooton Bassett, what’s yours?”
“I’m Jorge. I make the spackle.” And he held up a trowel.
“Wow, that’s so cool! I wish I could make spackle! Hey, Jorge, maybe you can show me!”
“Really?” The guy’s voice shifted a little, turning a bit raspy, but he cleared his throat fairly quick. “I mean,” and his voice was back to normal, “sure, I can show you how to make the spackle!”
“Yeah! C’mon, Jorge, let’s go!” And Wooton started off eagerly to ask Whit where they could find a good place to make spackle. As he went, however, he remembered something he’d been meaning to ask people about, and spun around. “Oh, hey, by the way, Bernard—that’s Bernard Walton, awesome cranky window-washer—he was talking about some guy called Bruno a minute ago. I think he was looking for him. Do you know him?”
Jorge grabbed the handle of the bucket on his head, as if tugging at a tight collar, and hesitated for a moment.
“Uhhhhhhhhhhhhh… no.”

AIO Personality Quiz
It’s here!! I made a “which character are you?” type of quiz
Basically, I had looked for a quiz like this before because I’m obsessed with buzzfeed quizzes, but there were only like two and they were so cliche they made me laugh, so I made one myself.

Tell me who you get! :)

That sounds a little more accurate than what I guessed. Also, got to factor in driving back. If, say, it was an 8 hour drive that would mean arriving back in Odyssey at like 4am. Sure, they could drive in shifts with that many people in the car, but I would think most people would just spend the night there instead of arriving that late, that might just be me. (Also would anyone else even know how to drive that car? Wooton practically has training for this car specifically. Maybe he's just gonna be fueled by licorice and sugar) They're in that weird spot where they drive to Chicago for a day trip but also fly to and from Chicago from Odyssey. Which is really dependent on the person too. I'll probably stick with my 5-6 hour guess.
What I'm getting from this is that Odyssey exists in a worm hole that distorts reality.
Where is Adventures in Odyssey located? Odyssey, duh. But what state is Odyssey in?
Saw some discussion on where Odyssey is located a while back, so I decided to try to throw my hat into the ring to narrow it down the best I can. Personally, I always headcanoned it in Illinois, but other states make sense too. But I wanted to go through every state and see.
First, I ruled out all the states we know it isn't located in using the Official Guide and what I remember of the most recent episodes. Let me know if I missed any States. Then, I ruled out the states that aren't reasonably close to Chicago since that seems to be the closest major city. There have been several episodes where they seem to make a relatively short drive to Chicago. So I'm guessing it's less than a 6 hour drive. That leaves Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, Minnesota, and Missouri. Missouri. Missouri, Wisconsin, and Minnesota seem unlikely. Why would you go to Chicago when St. Louis/Minneapolis/Milwaukee are probably closer? That leaves Illinois or Indiana (most likely in the northern half because the southern half would be closer to St. Louis or Cincinnati)
TLDR: Odyssey is in Illinois or Indiana.

Currently on Part 10 of Adventures in Odyssey’s Green Ring Conspiracy, and I’m REALLY relating to Katrina right now. I’m all about diving deep into things and getting hard facts myself, so I think she’s the character I’m relating to the most at the moment. Meanwhile, Wooton and Penny are precious, and I want them to grow up strong and healthy. 💙💜
Not only that, but Jason Whittaker’s prayer that truth would win out over deception was interesting. Everything about the Green Ring Conspiracy sounds very complex, and I know I’ll need to listen to it again in order to grab anything I’ve missed, but his hopes for truth in the midst of deception was something I found very relatable. After listening to the Blackgaard Chronicles, and Novacom, it sounds like he’s come a long way since his ‘plan now, pray later’ phase from Darkness Before Dawn. Look at him go 😭
Also, they’ve officially name-dropped Mr. Grote. Oh snap, here we go…

Randy Stonehill is the Wooton of CCM. He's genuine and faithful and nice, but he's also a huge weirdo and some of his noises literally startle me.

Hot take?
Eugene and Katrina = what not to do
Wooton and Penny = what to do
So be clear specifically before marriage in-universe, and either way for in the writers room.
My friends ask why I'm the one people go to with relationship problems. I say idk but deep down I know cause it's from listening to Eugene and Katrina's and Penny and Wooton's romance arcs

AIO Character Enneagram Types
Idk if y’all are into the enneagram, but I think it’s kinda fun so here we are. I’m no expert, but these are just some of my thoughts:
Eugene-Type 5 (possibly with a 6 wing): I think Eugene is pretty easy to type. He’s super intellectual, inventive, and enjoys pursuing knowledge. He tends to be a little eccentric, and is very independent and innovative. He can also become reclusive because he fears being incompetent and often struggles with relating to people emotionally. We see these struggles very clearly in his relationship with Buck, as he finds it difficult to open up to him. However, when he finally does, the vulnerability reveals a strength and maturity of character and creates a much stronger relationship to Buck. He’s pretty much the definition of a healthy five.
Connie-Type 7w6: Connie’s a little trickier than Eugene, but I think 7 makes the most sense. She’s joyful, optimistic, values freedom, and seeks fulfillment in life. She has a natural charisma, especially with the kids, that attracts people to her. She can also be very scattered, disorganized, and distractible. The wing 6 accounts for her loyalty, her tendency to be anxious, and her need for security. Although I could see Connie being typed as a 2, I think the episodes that show her character before she became a Christian point more towards a type 7. (Generally the servanthood of a type 2 is the most valued among Christians, so those ideals can often lead to them, especially Christian women, being mistyped as a 2, despite that not being their innate personality). A case could certainly be made for her as a 2 (and probably also as a 4), but I finally decided that 7 made the most sense to me.
Whit-Type 1w2: Whit is such a well-rounded “perfect” character, that typing was pretty difficult for me, again the Christian tendency to value type 2 traits also made this tricky, so episodes that involve Whit as a younger, more flawed person were what I had to base some of this off of. Whit has an incredibly strong moral compass and constantly strives for improvement. He is wise, discerning, compassionate, an excellent teacher, and an inspiring leader. He sometimes deals with resentment and being a little self-righteous, even angry when his decisions are questioned (e.g. with Jana or Wilson). He stands up for what he believes in and for people who need help. He is also passionate, self-disciplined, and an advocate for truth and justice. These traits all lead me to see him as a 1w2, but if you can argue for another type, go for it, I think an argument could be made for several other types (3, 5, or 6 specifically).
Jack Allen-Type 9: Jack is actually the reason I decided to make this list because he is the NINEST NINE TO EVER NINE. He is stable, agreeable, and supportive, but his desire to keep the peace often leads to complacency. He avoids conflict at all costs and tends to seek peace in the spiritual. He is very profound and patient with others and he is good at bringing other people together. We especially see his tendency to avoid conflict in his interactions with Jason when they butt heads while running Whit’s End. His nine-ness is also very clear in the episode “And That’s the Truth” from album 43 when he can’t bring himself to confront PJ about the quality of his work. If you tell me Jack is anything other than a 9 I will probably fight you.
Jason-Type 3: Jason is a pretty straight-forward 3. He’s charming, confident, adaptable, ambitious, and driven. He pushes himself to do every task to the best of his abilities. He often struggles with arrogance, his competitive nature, a restlessness that stems from his ambition, and his tendency to obsess over his work. He has a strong desire to help others, but sometimes his desire to be “the hero” of a situation undermines him. We especially see Jason as an unhealthy 3 in episodes like “A Touch of Healing” and “Shining Armor.” As we currently know him in the series, Jason hasn’t quite reached the level of a healthy 3 as we still see him struggle with workaholism and with a tendency to run away from his emotions. His time in “the labyrinth” clearly effected his mental health and set him back significantly in the growth he had previously shown, but he has begun to show growth again during his recent time in Odyssey and at the antique shop.
Wooton-Type 4w5: Wooton’s eccentricity pretty clearly points to him being a type 4. He’s extremely creative, self-aware, and true to himself. He shows a desire to impact the world around him in a unique and significant way. He can be very profound, and uses his art to express the beauty he sees in the world. He has also shown an ability to take everything he has experienced, both positive and negative, and grow from it. He finds the value in every experience. The deep emotion he experiences help him to feel empathy and compassion for those around him and express it in a way that they find helpful and comforting. He also has a unique but specific and easily recognizable aesthetic, like many of his fellow type 4s. I could also see him being typed as a 2 because of his love for people and his deep need to be around them, but his artistic nature is why I lean more towards 4.
Penny-Type 6w7: Although I could also type Penny as a 4, there are a few specific traits that I feel make her more of a type 6. She is committed, loves people, and deeply values reliability and trust in her relationships. She tends to be very anxious, doubtful, and defensive when she feels uncomfortable or stressed, as well as becoming very indecisive and overly cautious when facing decisions that make her feel pressured. When she feels confident in a situation, she is willing to stand up for others, helping them feel seen and heard when they otherwise wouldn’t. When she feels strongly about a cause, she devotes all of her time and energy to it. She cares very deeply about people and is naturally very sociable and spirited.
That’s all for now. What do you guys think? Do you agree or disagree with my typing? I may do a part 2 with Tom, Bernard, Katrina, and other characters that I didn’t fit into this one. Let me know what you think! :)
