In my garden there is a good deal of toads (good!). When it rains, they like get out of wherever they usually are and stand on the walkway getting soaked in the rain (good!). Unfortunately, when it's night I'm afraid I might step on one of them standing stupidly in the walkway (bad!!): is it enough for me to loudly thump my feet on the ground to scare them away? I know this works for lizards but toads seem to be much more stubborn.

To my knowledge this will not work for toads. They are, as you say, stubborn. My only recommendation is to get a decent torch, or get a waterproof cover for your phone and use its torch, and make sure you can see the toads so that you can be careful to not step on them.

Reading a book set in a spacefuture where everyone introduces themselves with their pronouns in a way that feels very of this moment. If space archives was a different kind of book I would add a gag where the doomed space commander who's been in stasis for 70 years mentions her fiancée and the archivist starts mentally scrambling for which period-appropriate terms wouldn't be insulting.

re: Italians sending recommendations

Padova has a very nice medieval city centre, and I really recommend a tour in the "Burchiello" boat on the Brenta river. It's a very beautiful spot and you get to see the beautiful summer villas of the Venetian aristocrats. I think you can travel all the way from Padua to Venice with that tour.

Hi Calliope :3 I have a question I want to ask people who use it/its pronouns: how do you feel about "It" and "Its" being capitalized in writing to remove ambiguities and show they're referring to a person? I'm not a native speaker and I feel it would help make language more understandable while also respecting the pronoun choice, but it's just an idea I had and I don't know anyone who uses it/its irl

Honestly, that’s not too bad of an idea. It/its pronouns are hard to understand even for native speakers (not just in a transphobic way, just the fact that “it” can refer to many things and adding “person” to that can be really confusing). When it comes to talking online I think that that could work pretty well.

I'm not super into boiled eggs, but for a lot of people cooking and eating an egg is like a religious ceremony first thing in the morning (compare coffee enthusiasts). and it has to be 100% perfect exactly the way they like it.

of course i have an egg cooker, i am not a barbarian. they even make them for single households:

an egg cup is just the reasonable conclusion of this obsession: you can maximize eggy enjoyment by taking small shallow spoonfulls. and maybe pour a shitton of salt on it between bites

corded egg slicer? needed for salads & appetizers. if you're the kind of person who likes slices of boiled egg

regarding the egg cozy - there's a lengthy wikipedia page - and it does get used. think of the poor person sleeping in who might otherwise have to eat a completely cooled egg?

HOWEVER i do balk at using any kind of tool to cut off the top of an egg, not even a knife. instead you politely knock on top of the more pointed side (the side with the air cell gets poked and put down in the egg cup) and gently peel. be one with the egg

also, see the tiny salt shaker? everyone gets one so they may eat their frühstück eggs synchronously without having to fight over the salt
