And then i was scrolling the AO3 page there was just not enough whump fics for my liking so you know i had to fix that.

Therefore i present my first NYSM WHUMP FIC.

This will be a series based on Whumptober 2023 prompts (i know its late shush) but will all be one collective story focusing on my dearest boys Jack, Merritt and Danny.

AN: so basically neither gif has any connection to what I wrote but woody harrelson looks hot in both so fuck it.

“All clear!” Little Rock called out. I pushed off the Cadillac and hitched the backpack back up my shoulder. Tallahassee put his duffle in my outstretched hand and I threw that over my other shoulder.

“So you gonna tell me whose house this is?” I asked as we walked up the stairs, columbus’s bag over Tallahassee’s shoulder and witchita’s in his hand. He laughed as we entered the house.

“take a look around and see sweetheart. It shouldn’t be too difficult to figure it out.” I rolled my eyes as I dropped his duffle in the doorway.

“fine be that way Florida.” I turned left and started to explore. It was ten minutes before I found the stairs. Little Rock looked up from the book she had found. “You guys pick your rooms yet?” She shook her head.

“I haven’t. I don’t know about the lover birds. Or if Tallahassee found anything yet.” I nodded before mounting the stairs.

”thanks.”

“By the way, if you find any games bring them down! It’s going to be a long night!” I laughed at Little Rock’s enthusiasm. I started walking around the second level and quickly found the master bedroom. Steeling my nerves, I knocked on the door before pushing it open. I let out the air I was holding. Being with a couple and a man who was more akin to Hugh Hefner than anyone else made you cautious before barging into rooms.

“thank god.” I muttered before tossing my bag on the bed. I closed the door and turned towards the window. There was a window seat and a side table. I sat down and started looking through the knickknacks next to me. As I looked through them my eyes widened. Standing up quickly, the table nearly crashed to the floor. “TALLAHASSEE!” I cried out as I ran out of the room. “TALLAHASSEE!“

”(Y/N)! Be quiet!” Columbus appeared out of nowhere. “You don’t know where the…”

”Oh shut up Columbus! TALLAHASSEE!” I pushed the scrawny nerd out of the way and took off for the stairs. Witchita laughed as I leaned over the railing and continued to call for the leader of our little gang.

“what?” Tallahassee appeared from the dining room, looking up at me. A smile spread across my face as I looked down at him. He smirked back at me before mounting the stairs. “Oh I see. You figured out whose house this is.” I started to laugh as I started backing up towards the master bedroom. “So tell sweetheart. Who lived here?” I laughed as tallahassee jokingly tried to grab me. I quickly hopped back and turned to run back into my room. “What? Now you aren’t going to tell me? Is this payback?”

”Tommy fucking Lee!” I giggled as I collapsed on the bed. Tallahassee laughed as he joined me and held his arm out so I could curl up on him if I chose. “one of the coolest drummers in all of history! Of the one and only motley fucking Crue!” I rolled Over and out my head on his chest. “Thank you.” Tallahassee kissed my temple and rubbed my back.

“No problem.“ he tucked me into his side more and we settled into silence. “I’d heard it was empty. Los Angeles is nearly cleared out of zombies. Of course that doesn’t mean a hell of a lot with mutations and just regular spreading but we’ve been a fairly good clean up crew. And all things considered, maybe it wouldn’t be too bad of an idea to stick around.” I looked up at him. “Columbus and witchita have been talking about moving on. Settling down. Even if it’s just us and Little Rock it couldn’t be that bad. She’s almost our kid anyway. And what better place to go than somewhere that would make you happy.“ I smiled as I listened to him talk. “Life’s been rough and maybe we don’t exactly deserve the good weve had Especially recently but in the end,” he looked down at me and smiled. “It’s the holidays and I’m feeling romantic so how about we finally settle down and spend the rest of our lives together.” I sat up and looked down at him.

“Tallahassee are you asking me to marry you?” He nodded. “In Tommy lees bed?” He nodded again. “And stay in this house?“ Tallahassee sat up and smiled as everything started to click. “Fuck yes!” I threw myself at him. We laughed before settling down and just enjoying the moment. “When do we tell them?” Tallahassee shrugged.

“whenever you want.“ his fingers traced unconnected patterns into my back. “Sorry about the lack of a ring. I’ll get one first chance I get. You deserve it.“ I pressed a kiss to his collarbone.

“doesn’t matter much. Just need you.” I mumbled before the week of chaos caught up to us both and we drifted off.

Woody Harrelson is so hot I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks this, he’s so underrated and Haymitch is one of my favourite characters ever for this exact reason😳 would love some more Haymitch x reader!

Yes. Almost all of my friends actually, but I don't think any of them have read anything I've written. My younger brother is in college and sometimes he'll read my stuff out loud in weird voices... this can be problematic at family functions.

💖 What made you start writing?

This is so embarrassing. Middle school me really thought Haymitch Abernathy in The Hunger Games movie was the hottest person ever (should have recognized my daddy problems for what they were then). So I wrote some Haymitch fics 🙄 So basically, you guys can thank Woody Harrelson

💌 How do you feel about comments and feedback?

I love it!! It's like taking a shot of pure seratonin. Listen, likes are wonderful, and they do make me happy. But comments and feedback are the best. I am so bad at responding individually because I never know what to say, but know that I read them all, often several times.

Zombieland: Double Tap

I’ve decided something important. It was a difficult decision, but after literal decades of watching as many movies as I can get my hands on, I can now say definitively that my favorite genre of film is the zombie comedy. There’s not a single dud in the bunch. Zombieland. Shaun of the Dead. Anna and the Apocalypse. Kind of the Evil Dead movies? I love them all with every ounce of my being. Zombieland: Double Tap has some big shoes to fill, is what I’m saying. A sequel 10 years after the original without the benefit of riding the zombie craze of the late aughts? (It’s all about ghosts as we head into the roaring 20s again. Ghosts are So Hot right now.) Sure, you’ve got the original gang all here, which helps - Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg), Wichita (Emma Stone), Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson), and Little Rock (Abigail Breslin) are still a spunky little found family bonded for life by the universal experience of fighting the undead. But do they have any more stories left to tell now that they’ve found each other and forged a bond? Well...

I don’t envy the screenwriters trying to match the fun and excitement of the first Zombieland, which had the benefit of surprise in its favor. Overall, I think this is a SOLID follow-up that manages to trade in on the successes of the original while adding its own flair. My expectations for this were sky high and I did not emerge disappointed, although I concede that it does not dethrone the original for king of my zombie-comedy-loving heart.

Some thoughts:

10 years of life on the road wears you down, and they’re all yearning for something - Columbus for a permanent home, Wichita and Little Rock for freedom, Tallahassee for bigger cars and guns and to be a lone wolf once again. My biggest complaint about the character development here is the (lack of) development for pretty much all of the film’s female characters. Columbus gets a rich journey regarding what home means to him, and Tallahassee gets to evolve both as a surrogate father and as a man who thought he’d never love again; Wichita and Little Rock yearn for different flavors of freedom, to not be tied down by this little family, and at the end of the affair they’re....right back where they started. Don’t get me wrong, I love happy endings as much as the next gal, but I can’t help but feeling like these badass ladies get slighted in favor of the men’s development here. 

Speaking of female characters, by far the best addition to this sequel is Zoey Deutch’s Madison, who has survived 10 years of zombies by hiding in a freezer in a Pinkberry. I love how industrious she proves to be, and her interactions with every other character are by far the funniest parts of the entire film. I wish I could say she had more of an arc, though - while she’s a real highlight of the film, she doesn’t really get to change or evolve much during her time on screen.

The other female character is similarly one-note, although she’s cool as all hell. All we know about Rosario Dawson’s Nevada is that she can handle a gun, she likes Elvis, and she’s got a thing for tough-talking redneck types. Like, that’s a great character sketch, and I recognize that there’s a lot of other stuff going on and she’s not a main character but....damn, I just wish we got a little more.

Similarly, Berkeley (Avan Jogia) is super one-note. We know even less about him than Nevada. And how does a pacifist survive for 10 years during a zombie apocalypse? I love all the different adaptations to the world we see all the characters of Zombieland making as they adjust to their new normal. It feels like a missed opportunity that we didn’t even get a hint of what that looks like for a potentially interesting character like a pacifist!

Every beat that is a nod to the first film is funny, sure, but they all fall just a teensy bit short. For example, the opening credits are just as full of zombie-fied gore as before, complete with slow-mo and Metallica playing, but I think we can all agree that “For Whom the Bell Tolls” is by far a superior song.

I’m not ashamed to admit that the first 10 minutes of the movie warmed the hell out of my fanfic-trope-loving self. The domesticity! The fluff! So cute!!

Avid readers of the blog will know that I’m experiencing something of a Thomas Middleditch obsession at the moment, or as I like to call it, the Middlesitch. I was ECSTATIC when I saw him in the first trailers for this movie, and I confess his entire section of the film as Flagstaff (combined with Luke Wilson’s Albuquerque) sent me into fits of glee. I wonder how long this little twin game they created took to rehearse and perfect - it yields fantastic results and made me so proud of my boy!

Related: I love the open emotional intimacy Flagstaff and Albuquerque share and how much they love each other. It’s the perfect counterpoint to Tallahassee’s machismo posturing.

Definitely stay allllll the way through the closing credits. It’s another instance of something not quite living up to the original’s brilliance, but boy is it still funny.

And I do want to point out - this sequel IS funny, in many of the ways the original was and in many new ones as well. I was delighted from start to finish, even without the unexpected magic that made the first one SO joyful.

Did I Cry? No, and I kind of wish I had. One of the most incredible moments of the first film is learning about Tallahassee’s past and the loss of his son, which still gets me even though I’ve seen it probably a dozen times. There was no big *core emotional moments* that helped us connect to these characters in a new way, which is a damn shame.

If you like the original, you’ll like this second helping and for a sequel 10 years later, it does a damn fine job of remaining relevant and interesting. The fact that its biggest competition is its own predecessor is evidence that this Zombieland is one that’s well worth a visit to.

There is none, but he puts up his hand to steady her.

I remember writing all the scenes with Buck Chisholm and thinking about how I wanted to characterize him. From the comics, he’s not that much of a big character, but there was something protective about him in the storyline he had in Blindspot, and so, I thought I’d try to incorporate that protective idea into him.

Doesn’t help that I imagine Woody Harrelson as Buck Chisholm, and one of my favorite characters Woody has played is Haymitch, and he’s a protective asshole as well, so it kind of bled into the characterization of Buck in a way, although I only figured that out waaaaaay after, we’re talking two years after I wrote SYS and was re-reading it and thought to myself “huh.”

The specific passage of Wanda and him sharing a moment to talk about Clint felt like the way someone would speak with an uncle or someone they didn’t really know, but had respect for. I think, in SYS, it was about understanding who Clint is - especially with the Ronin gear - and about understanding where he comes from, more than I wrote when I did Remember, I Loved You, which is the origin story itself.

I just remember that I wanted to write a scene with Buck and Wanda, much in the same way I wanted to write Bucky and Barney scenes, and others - whenever I sit down and plan a fic, I mostly think about scenes I want to write and characters I want to interact, that way it allows me to pick duos you wouldn’t normally have thought of and make them interact in my story.
