notes on the singing world
youtube
This morning I sat outside on my back porch, drinking my coffee at 7:30am, soaking up the early sun. There was peace in my heart, a peace I wish I could give to everyone in the world. We still don’t know the source of it. I listened to a live recording of the Brazilian singer Gal Costa singing “Baby”—“Você precisa saber da piscina, Da margarina, da Carolina, da gasolina...” The crowd roars with those opening lyrics. You can hear the whole audience singing along, “Baby, baby, I love you...” I wept some tears of joy and wrote in my notebook, “You know, when I die, I will be sad to leave the world behind. I loved this broken world, I loved it truly.”
Then I read a journal entry from a week ago:
April 13
Today the sky went from sunny to gray sunny to gray. Stepped out of my house, into the blustery air—two pigeons were perched above the commuter rail, their iridescent throats catching the spring sun. Turning down Oxford Street, Kimya Dawson came on over my headphones. I haven’t thought of Kimya Dawson in nearly 20 years, I thought, and was flooded with memories of high school, teenage emotion, so embarrassingly earnest. Once I left a comment on Kimya’s livejournal: “I couldn’t get a ticket to your show...” She put me on the guest list, how sweet of her. “And the road’s still long but you come along...”
I felt calm. Thought: so this is the calm that follows a long cry. The whole world and its kaleidoscopic array of details were singing to me: the white petals of the star magnolia aloft on the wind, a stranger’s purple sari blowing in the breeze as she crosses the street, the tuxedo cat sitting in the periwinkles, pink saucer magnolia blooms above some blue graffiti, observed through a chain link fence.
I walk to the Charles River and sit on a bench watching the daffodils lining the bank of the river dance in the wind while the sparkling light on the surface of the water twinkles in the background. Once Bhanu Kapil and I sat by this river admiring the daffodils. At sunset we sat with our eyes closed, doing a sun meditation before we walked over to the Houghton Library for her reading with Fred Moten. We wandered around the Harvard campus and she posted a photo of me on her blog doing a peace sign in the Harvard Math Department. On the counter next to the Keurig coffee maker, Ed made an intricate mandala out of sugar packets and wood coffee stirrers. She made a joke about Indians and Russians both loving chess and mathematics.
Drifting in and out of memories. I observe an old man in a beret taking photos with his vintage medium format camera of the daffodils and the river. He says Hello. I smile and say Hello. A woman is on a blanket in the grass, photographing her dog rolling around on its back.
I wander around Harvard Square. Through the window of Tasty Burger I see a young black woman and white man (probably undergrads) acting playfully as they eat. She sticks her tongue out. He taps it with his finger. They do this over and over. I go into Harvard Book Store, leaf through some books, and buy a copy of Amelia Rosselli’s Sleep. So many words. I wonder about the books I will write, the people who are on the other end of that strange relationship, the relationship between writer and reader.
I used to have a dragnet mind, used to walk around in a state of pure awe, my window of perception so wide—it was the world, simple, resplendent, endlessly offering itself to me. I humbly accepted it, that gift of quotidian grace. Ordinary things glowed with a freshness that brought tears to my eyes. It’s rarer now, but still, I cherish the days when I can feel the world singing to me.
The world. Tell them—tell them, she loved it truly.

In the shop now: An authentic, vintage, hand-painted & signed Costa Rican “carreta” in a smaller size suitable for a serving cart in a covered deck or patio area. Complete with matching, painted wooden handled box and grid for serving and holding bottles. As an added bonus, the cart can be completely disassembled and reassembled like a puzzle.
Larger ox carts became a significant means of transportation for rural Costa Ricans after they were introduced to the area circa 1840. Farmers used ox carts to transport valuable crops like coffee beans or sugar cane. The carreta was valued for its ability to maneuver over all types of hazardous terrain.
Over the centuries, cars & trucks replaced the ox cart as transportation. However, ox carts then gained new life as a celebrated form of artwork. The ox cart has even taken on a symbolic significance, commemorating Costa Rica traditions and agricultural history, and was officially declared a national symbol of Costa Rica some 30 years ago. Visitors to Costa Rica can witness carretas in all their traditional glory during the "Día del Boyero" (Day of the Drover) parade, which is held in the city of Escazú every year on the second Sunday in March.
Carretas are now decorated with bright colors and intricate designs. They often boast floral motifs, and the wheels are emblazoned with mandala-like patterns. The artisans who craft carretas also painstakingly choose the pieces of wood from which the wheels will be crafted, specifically so that the carts will make a pleasant sound as they roll through the streets. The wheels consist of sixteen wedge-shaped pieces of wood arranged in a circle and bound with a metal ring.
This example features cheerful colors on a black background. It is in good vintage condition. Come check it out at Folklore Emporium in Ruckersville Gallery. #costarican #carreta #cart #margaritacart #patiocart #servingcart #paintedfurniture #folkart #ruckersvillegallery #cvillevintage #albemarlecounty #virginiavintage #charlottesville #folkloreemporium

James and the Giants — S-T (Kill Rock Stars)
James & The Giants by James & The Giants
Who’d have guessed from James Jackson Toth’s early forays into noisy, freak folk experiments that he’d shape up as such an elegant craftsman? This latest collection of songs attests to the artist formerly known as Wooden Wand’s deep connection to and understanding of foundational American popular music forms: blues, folk, gospel, R&B, Beatles-esque psych and Brill Building pop. He works here with much of Woods (longtime collaborator Jarvis Tavernier, plus Kyle Forester and Jeremy Earl), plus his wife Leah, the singer Katie Schleicher and others to realize his songs.
Consider the first single, “Hall of Mirrors,” which begins in piano-led rumination, but swells to epic proportions in a wash of ELO-style synths. The song is at once intimate and epic, quirkily eccentric and tapped into the universal. The chorus is especially beautiful, wheeling up out of a string of clever asides to sweep you away. It reminds me, conceptually, of Jason Pierce’s work with Spiritualized, which takes fragile little melodies and blows them up into mini-operas, all without ever tipping into absurdity. If the real test of a great song is that it makes you feel like it has always been there, “Hall of Mirrors” passes with flying colors.
Toth writes precisely and well, steering clear of cliché as he matches meter and melody. Not that he isn’t tempted. “Don’t Let Love Make a Liar Out of You,” rejects the tired tropes of love songs one by one, against a surging background of Stax horns. (“Eyes don’t never sparkle and the moon is never blue and no one ever cried a river”) before opting for plain-ness and honesty (“Don’t let love make a liar out of you.”) And, indeed, the magic of his stories comes in the way they marry ordinary detail to surreal and expansive wonder. “All-Time Girl,” for instance, imagines a connection that runs through many lives and the difficulties to arriving on the planet simultaneously. The image of a lover waiting centuries for his soul-mate is a powerful one, all the more so since it’s stated so modestly.
The words are worth noting, because they’re so good, but the real pleasure comes in the way that full-rich sonics—borrowing from swamp-fried blues and celestial gospel and mandala-spinning psychedelia—breathe live into them. These songs are lived in and unpretentious, but nonetheless gorgeous. There are no gimmicks, no flashy stuff, no self-conscious model-breaking, just exceptionally well-made songs that already sound like classics.

Crush is an art club tutor. They ask for the skeleton's opinion to make their class more fun. What would be the skelly's suggestion?US UL SF FS FSG .
Ooh! Well as an art club tutor, here’s my advice! Have one day be set aside as either student pick or free draw. When I was teaching at the school site, I had fridays as my free draw days. I basically whip out the favorite supplies and let the kids go ham. Art clubs tend to attract the anime nerds for some reason so I usually spent most Friday’s teaching kids how to draw their favorite characters. It’s really good to have at least one day where the kids can be free to experiment. Especially after they have a little experience with previous lessons
Star: he’s actually a fairly decent drawer when he’s focused on it. Of course Star prefers wild colors so he’d probably suggest something like tye dye shirts
Honey: he’s not the most artistic but everybody can have fun with clay right?
Charm: oh darling, have you ever considered a bob Ross day? Charm would marry bob Ross in an instant. That man is half of his inspiration for his beautiful cake art
Sugar: oooh! Why not do a lace painting? You grab a canvas, lay out some old lace on top (and make sure it’s stuck tight) then you paint over the top with acrylics! You wind up with a colorful piece that has a beautiful lacy background!
Mal: ever thought of bedazzling a canvas? Or maybe doing some of those pour paintings? Those are always fun!
Cash: four words: watercolor water gun fight
Lord: the heck if he knows? Lord doesn’t have an artistic bone in his body those book page roses are cute-
Mutt: nude models lol. He’ll volunteer ;)
Wine: you should really be asking coffee this, this is definitely his forte, but wine does have a crafty side too! He likes working with leather and knows how to do several knots, bracelets, and bookmarks. Also if the kids are old enough to handle a torch he’s totally down to teach them pyrography wood burning art!
Coffee: oh what is there that coffee hasn’t done!?? If there’s a craft or art idea, coffee has tried it! Pour painting, pottery, DIY, building birdhouses, watercolor, digital art, realistic, mandalas. All you have to do is ask, and coffee will let you go through his old projects if you need ideas!

❝ HISTORY.
such is the way of a mandalorian that grew up unwanted, maverik was used to the way things went on concordia. he knew all the stories, he ran and hid and fought with the rest of them, he did what he was told, and he tried to make himself scarce. he didn’t want to be a problem, but it seemed as though just breathing would put the boy in the doghouse. he didn’t get it but... his father fucking hated him. because not only did maverik kill his mother in childbirth ( which. literally not his intentional fault, but okay. ) but he was taking the spot of what could’ve been a better, stronger, bolder child. his father wanted a warrior, and he got one, but not in the way he expected. maverik wanted to discover. his father said he was cursed.
when the protectors were looking for recruits when mav was practically only a child, his father gave him away without a second thought. maverik didn’t know why he was screaming and crying and straining against fenn’s hold... he knew he wasn’t wanted. but he wanted, so desperately, to be wanted.
so he went with the protectors, and that became his life.
he grew and trained and earned his armor, his brothers became true family to him, and he could really shine. he developed a love for photography and urban exploration because of all the planets they were visiting with abandoned places. plus, it was time to be alone. he didn’t like thinking about the things that hurt him, but half the time he’d just force himself to, just to make sure he remembered the lessons he’d learned from his first family.
life in the protectors wasn’t easy, but it was solid. he worked, he explored, he cared for the mandalore system and the people within it. and yeah. some people came and went. some people he wished would've stayed.
atera arrives and maverik takes her under his wing, teaching her everything he can think of. it doesn’t last long, but just long enough to scar when she runs away like she never fucking cared.
only a few months pass and he’s showing up to werda and dragging danti sejal out of the rubble. and in an instant, he fell in love. maverik knew it wasn't his job to be personally attached to every person that came through and showed him any sort of kindness, he had work to do. he had to learn to get over it. he had to learn that it was a burden to love maverik, because he was a curse, a problem, and therefore, he’d get attached all he wanted, but never let the other know it. he helped danti run off to follow the mishras. when zoya appeared two days later, alone and without her brother, maverik was, of course, there to pick her up and carry on.
these constantly-changing connections of his are part of the reason why he’s so afraid of being attached. maybe his dad was right. maybe he was cursed.
his death was an accident. they were on a planet with a massive scrapping business, and those scrappers were ruthless. he and his younger brother soryn were out in the scrapyard because something caught maverik's eye and he wanted to explore. he wound up getting stuck and breaking his leg, which definitely wasn't good -- but when he called for soryn's help, he didn't respond. mav had to drag himself up and out of the ruined ship and was met with soryn's dead body, staring at him, blank eyes and all, stripped of beskar. his head slowly tilted up, the scrapper stomped on mav's helmet and sent him falling to his death. they snuck in and stole his beskar, and were on their way.
❝ ARRIVAL ON BATUU.
he wakes up in the woods, very confused and alone.
❝ PRESENT.
he needs to figure out what to do surrounding the protectors, the mand’alors, and his path in life.
❝ HEADCANONS.
he’s a big photography nerd, he’ll definitely ask to take your picture, complementing you all the while. ( deff has a stash of candids of people he knows is checking him out lmao )
he’s literally the most charming motherfucker alive. he’ll flirt with anything that moves.
loves speeder bikes!

maaaaad adhd idiot
get’shuk KING ( mando rugby )
❝ TIMELINE OF IMPORTANT EVENTS.
0 BBY / AGE 0 : birth on concordia, mother dies
7 BBY / AGE 7 : given to the protectors
14 BBY / AGE 14 : atera arrives, maverik adopts

FMP Evaluation
For my final major project I chose underground/overground as my flipside theme. I thought that this would give me a good opportunity to explore light with overground and dark with underground. This stark contrast would make an eye catching piece of work. I chose war as the topic within this flipside theme. This enabled me to explore wartime underground bunkers which led me to look into the cold war with the nuclear explosions and the effects of nuclear war. This has a personal resonance as my dad’s godfather, my great grandfathers cousin (Uncle Ken) was the pilot of the plane that dropped Britain’s first h bomb.
Out of all of the artists I researched during this project, there were three that impacted and inspired me the most. I researched Kathe Kollwitz who was a German artist during the war who did wood block prints studying people who have been affected by war. From this artist I have taken the stark black and white effect from her work. I think it is very effective and fits with the flipside theme. I also admire the way she managed to convey the strong emotion and the horrors of war in such an apparently simple way. This influenced my final three pieces. Shown above is one of her works. Secondly the artists Iri and Toshi Maruki who lived in Japan throughout the world wars and cold war who were both personally effected by the Hiroshima explosion. This husband and wife artist duo created ‘The Hiroshima Panels’ which are a series of fifteen painted folding panels which they completed over a span of thirty two years. I admire the intensity and emotion that their works convey. Their work is mainly black and white images with the blurry coloured background of the flames which I have done something similar for my final outcomes with the black drawings and the background coloured. Shown below is part of their work ‘The Hiroshima Panels’.
The artist Henry Moore also inspired me with his series of wartime drawings which are displayed at the Tate, more specifically his piece ‘Tube Shelter Perspective’ which shows lots of people almost looking lifeless all lined up sleeping in an underground tunnel. This inspired me for one of my final outcomes where it has a tree and underneath it is people sheltering in the London underground. The people in this are hard to make out a bit like his work.
I was really excited to look further into ‘Operation Grapple’ for my wider world research. This was the operation for testing Britain’s first H-bomb, it was interesting to explore the sense of pride that a member of my family was involved in a recent part of this country’s history with the flipside of being horrified that a relative was involved in the creation of a weapon of mass destruction. For research I read the book ‘Operation Grapple’ which was written by Uncle Ken (Group Captain Kenneth Hubbard). It was amazing to learn some of the behind the scenes of the RAF and their operations and I can personally relate to some of the things he is talking about with flying these planes as I just started having flying lessons myself last September. Below is a picture of uncle ken’s plane during the operation, as well as picture of the mushroom cloud from the H-bomb.
In researching wartime bunkers, I was interested to find out just how many were created and could be lying undiscovered under the countryside. A man discovered one in his garden under what he thought was a drain cover, which was left forgotten. This is what inspired my image of the bunker underneath the tree. It is also interesting that many bunkers are used for displaying artworks/turned into galleries. There was one German bunker in the Channel Islands that was excavated a couple of years ago after being filled in in the 1960’s and they uncovered some purple painted flowers on the wall done by one of the soldiers. Shown below is the picture of the flowers in the German bunker as well as the hidden bunker under the Middlesbrough back garden.
In this project I have experimented with new techniques, processes and materials. For example Line drawings/pen scribble drawings, layered tracing paper images, making boxes/3d work, woodblock prints, mandala designs, 2 handed symmetrical drawings, using the layout app to mirror images, collage, images with light – using photographic paper, taking photos and learning how to use photoshop more. As I chose to do layered tracing paper images for my final outcomes, I have been using tracing paper a lot. I really like this style because it allows you to try out the images in lots of different ways because each image is on a separate layer. Also in doing this technique I have become more confident in experimenting with colour, as for the backgrounds of my outcomes I used neon pastels which worked really well for the explosions.
For the FMP, because I work in black and white a lot, I have learnt to use it in many different and interesting ways to convey thoughts and feelings. But also adding hints of colour to give depth and feeling. Looking back now at all of the work I have done, the ones that I feel were the most successful are the pen scribble drawings. I like the freedom of the marks in contrast to my final outcomes that were made with more careful and defined lines. Most of my work is done very precisely and with clear lines, this was my favourite workshop in college as I wasn’t worried about messing up (which I do too much with my work).
My initial outcome idea came from a drawing that I did in my sketchbook having brought ideas together from different workshops for example Hannah’s layered tracing paper workshop with the idea of a floating world. My first outcome, building on from my ideas from the sketchbook, developed into an image of Birmingham cathedral in ruins following a bomb attack. I am fairly happy with the overall image, I like how the mountain being upside down can form a floating world, but I feel like the flames were dulled down too much as just a block colour from being scanned in. I went onto develop two other pieces with a similar idea, I think that the one with the mushroom cloud worked well but again the colour of the explosion was dulled down, so the image lost some of the detail. The third outcome I don’t like as much, I like the images but I think that it is too plain in the background. I also developed these outcomes further by taking sections of them showing more of the detail up close and changing the hues/saturation of them in photoshop.
1. Thoughts, experiment, man-made
2. Destruction, historic, devastation
3. Inferno, senseless, ruin
4. rumble, beauty, rock
In this project, I have learnt new techniques like the photographic workshop outcomes and also the pen scribble drawings. From this project I feel more confident with starting my pieces and making bolder marks. I am now more open minded with trying new styles, techniques and thinking of new ways to look at art and what it is. In my proposal I said that I wanted to do layered tracing paper images for my final outcomes as I thought that they make strong, bold images and I think that I was quite successful in doing this. I succeeded in producing larger scale images, my final outcomes were produced in A3. This project has taught me a lot of new things both creative and technical skills, which I will definitely take further and I am looking forward to what new things I will learn next year.

Mandala creativity involves many definitions and concepts pertaining to a number of disciplines like psychology, cognitive, science, philosophy just like covering the relations between creativity and general intelligence. This creativity is a phenomenon whereby something new and somehow valuable if formed.

Elohim Magical Encounter
Nancy had suggested we could gather a small group for our next encounter with the psilocybin. I got my collection of magical chocolates ready, and now that Nancy’s friend, Katie, from the US was in town, we could all meet this evening, setup in the back garden, to sit around the fire pit and connect with the magical realms. We also invited Nat, who wanted to share his crystal sound bowls so that we could be bathed in it’s vibrations as we traversed the cosmic portals.
Once they arrived, the first thing we did was go out for a walk to collect fire wood. The place where I got firewood last time had a friendly guy sitting in the darkness, under a large tree. He confirmed there was no longer any firewood there, but he knew a better spot, just a few streets away.
He said he was happy to take us there. Myself, Nancy and Katie followed him through the well lit streets, under the almost full moon. He wore his large white Mexican cowboy style hat, and sure enough within minutes we had found the wood. He happily helped us fill our basket. We thanked him, and even though we had no pesos, he seemed genuinely good about taking a few minutes out of evening to help us.
Back at the house Nat had already arrived with the sound bowls. We also had the chocolate pyramids ready. Everyone selected which chocolate they wanted. We then sat in circle, each one of us meditating and tuning into psilocybin, unwrapping the small pyramid, half expecting to find the “eat me” message, we quietly munched on them, feeling their strange taste and tingling that was unique to this type of chocolate.
I then went into the back garden to make the fire and Nancy joined me. The others remained inside for sometime, while we built the fire and talked about how fortunate we felt ourselves to be. As the fire blazed and we moved back a little, basking in it’s warmth, while at the same time as the magic began to expand within. I could feel the subtle shifts taking place, the more I tuned in, the more I could feel myself turning towards pull to cross the veil into hidden realm.
They were coming into view. They were inviting me.
I told Nancy I could no longer look at her, and instead I turned to focus on the plants, which had begun to move and transform in the most remarkable ways. In no time I found myself on all fours, facing the rosemary bush, and once again the first growl came from my lips.
I could no longer speak as the jaguar was once again with me, he was back, and fully in charge. Such a force, such a power, I was entranced by the plants, sniffing, burying myself in the rosemary bush, biting it, chewing, growling.
Now I was no longer in the human realm, and yet still they were all around. It’s hard to relate to them when like this. When any of them came towards me, I would growl and make movements to show them the boundary for them not to cross. This went on for sometime, as what was left of my human consciousness swirled out of control.
I could close my eyes and see the luminescent light of the plants. I buried my face in the rosemary, and found they opened a portal of light that had me become transfixed by what transformed into spiraling golden mandalas, swirling hexagons taking me deeper into the magic behind the plant world, and for the first time I heard the chanting of the hypnotic ELOHIM, ELOHIM, ELOHIM... again and again, and I dived deeper and deeper into the golden mandalas that were taking me through the plants into this magical sound.
It became too much, and I fell back, opening my eyes, still unable to speak, and so growling again, I looked up at the almost full moon, and the red wandering star beside her.
I felt their power. They were here. All of them. They were with me. Calling me.
“Look up”, they said. “Be with us. We have much to show you tonight.”
I fell back, staring up again at the moon and the star. They glowed with that powerful intensity that was only visible on nights like this.
The moon had an almost blue flame emanating from it, while it’s accompanying red star grew intensity. They were sending messages beyond language, beyond what I could fully grasp.
It was too much for me. Being with these heavenly bodies was overwhelming. I sat bolt upright again, looking around the scene. The humans were all here, sitting quietly it seemed. The fire was burning and keeping us warm.
I fell back again to be with the moon and the wandering red star.
“What do you have to tell me” I asked. “What is the most important message that you can give me?”
“That everything is perfect, all of it, all the time” they spoke. But it was said in a language beyond English, and commanded a power from out of this world.
“And yet, you have much to do here” they said. “Be with us, for we are always with you”
And with that I sat bolt up right again.
Their intensity was still too much. My feeble human consciousness could only take in so much of their power. Is this who they are... the ELOHIM... all this time... all these past years of communicating with them...
“Yes, we want you to build a grand cathedral here. In the future, you will assemble everything you need to build the most beautiful temple to us.”
And I could see this most luminescent cathedral, so tall, reaching the heavens. And they were inviting me to join them, and build this.
“And all will come, and be with us, they will feel our power and will forever be with us. You are to build this cathedral, you are to be with us, for we own you, all of you, forever.”
Hang on... and it was there I realized... it was the FIMS, the machine insects, the darkness that was speaking, speaking of it’s false light, trying to sway me into it’s vision of a world under it’s dominion.
I spoke to them, “I am not with you, you do not own me.”
“Then who are you with?” They asked, “who do you trust, for is there anyone else with you now, or do you only feel and see us?”
“Even though I can only feel and see you, I have no interest in this cathedral you speak of. Yours is the false light. There is no temple that is needed to be built in this land, in this world. This whole world is the temple, and nature herself is the cathedral, what you speak of is a shrine to your dominion, what you want is tobuild a false temple that will sway the many and bring them to you for your own ends. And this is not something that I will ever be a part of.”
It was clear our world needed no artificial temple or cathedral, for she, in all her majesty, was the fullest expression of all that was most sacred. And how could it be, in her destruction to build such a cathedral tower, that she could be honored.
And they were gone, and once again I was with the natural world and it’s magic.
“You are back with us now, and the darkness has gone again” they said.
“Why so many tests?” I asked “and how I am even to be sure of who you are? What are you, and how can I be sure that you are not another trick?”
“This is perfect, the way you question even us. For we designed you like this, the perfect protector of the truth, had to question everything that came across his path, even us. For you to protect the most sacred deepest truths, you would have to question them, at their very core, question everything, every step of the way. This is your perfection, and now you stand here protector of the truth, in a world of lies and illusion.”
I was back with the moon and stars. For they were giving me greater guidance and solace after the encounters with the FIMS.
For sometime I bounced back and forth with the angelic heavens, falling down, becoming transfixed by the moon and star, then back to the garden. Then, it became clear what to do. “Be with the humans for some time” they said, “We much to share with them also, let them come and speak.”
And so I returned to the circle, and found myself once again able to speak. But it was no longer me speaking. The “Barnaby” character had moved far into the background, which gave them the space to step through. There was the force from the heavens inhabiting “his” body, speaking through “his” mouth.
The eyes that looked at the humans were no longer “mine”. I was seeing the humans in so many different ways. Often they looked so much older. Often I saw death in them.
“You have less time here than you think” they said to me again, a message they would often give. “These humans are not understanding what is coming for them, there is grave danger now, and much less time for everyone, while this snare is set around humanity, they are collected into their trap. You are here to point to a different path, you still have time to show the light and truth.”
I could feel the presence of the darkness intruding, and I growled again, snapping it, sending it away. I had no fear of it’s power or it’s tricks. I sat here with the others, protecting the perimeter from any intruding entities that wanted to disturb our space.
The young women and man had many questions over this next time. As we sat around the fire, I would ask if they had any sincere questions to ask.
Katie, recently visiting us here from the US, was the whole reason we put on the night. She was not here for long, and we wanted her to have the opportunity to connect with the medicine. It was clear she no longer wanted to be behind the wall, and in the land where the machine and darkness ruled. She could feel all the power and magic that was still here in Mexico, with it’s contrast to that world she lived in, that was increasingly being turned into an entrapment of consciousness by the machine. She was looking for answers on what to do, and how to connect with her power as a woman, in a world where the men were lost to the machine and danced to it’s message of control and fear.
The powers that spoke through me were certainly not subtle in their answers, and in the background I was shocked at the ferocity of the answers and the intensity that was spoken. That the tragedy was that as a woman, she did not feel respected in her power, whereas the truth was, that the woman was the power of the world, for she was the first expression of consciousness from Gaia, and had been lied to by the machine who had taken control of the men, to dominate and transform the world into it’s own vision of perfection.
When the man asked questions, he wanted to understand more of what was going on in the world, but his questions seemed to be coming from a different place. And then at some point, he asked directly “and who is speaking?”.
I turned away. “We are still not known here. What do we say. Who is this that is asking? Who does he speak for? Do we share, is this the time?”
I turned back, and said “Michael... this is Michael”
And with that utterance, I felt the danger in being seen. The secret was spoken.
I looked him directly in the eyes “From where do you come, and who sent you?”
Then I reached out my hand, to shake his, and while we did I said “Never speak of this, do not share this with anyone. For we still need more time here, and the longer we are here, the better it is for everyone.”
And he smiled and agreed, saying it was all to simply respect.
Soon after he got up and we hugged, and a great power and force arose within us, beating each other’s back and growling, the power grew stronger and stronger, until I exploded and pushed him away. Falling he regained his balance and went inside to play the sound bowls.
I stood collecting myself, feeling the power of such a force was like an explosion, and I was aware I was still with the women, and so focused on drawing everything back inside.
Growling I came back down to the ground and paced around on all fours. The jaguar was back fully in it’s power now.
Coming closer to the women, I came right up to their faces, and saw them move back a little, and I told them they had nothing to fear, for I would never touch them, the way I touched him, I was here to protect them, and they could relax by the fire, knowing this power was here, for them, to feel safe.

Ok so apparently the 100 is building a castle set w/a fancy staircase. And theres a few small red and yellow flagposts outside w/some christmas like trees. Wtf is going on?!? Lol the first thing that popped into my head when I saw it was the King/Knight and Queen/Princess reference for Bellamy and Clarke. Lol. I have no idea what's going on in this new planet. Or is a ball really happening like everyone is saying? Maybe like a peace conference ball type thing between Eligius and Earthlings? Lol.
OK, I wish y’all would post a link or site or search term when you come yelling about new information so I know where to go look and I’m not just going off second hand information. But I did find the bts pic.
I don’t know if that’s a castle, but the flags are banners and they are norfolk pines, not christmas trees. There does seem to be some pageantry involved with the banners and landscaping, which doesn’t fit either the wilderness or the high tech aesthetic, so it’s something DIFFERENT from what we’ve seen. There’s also topiary on the balcony.
What I find interesting is the organic details on those stairs and backdrop, and I do not understand why the center of the set is orange while the outside of it is brown, which makes it look fake. So the conclusion I am coming to is that they will add special effects to it to make it also look…idk, more organic? Some sort of vines or lights or alien unusualness.??? There’s a bluescreen at the top, but the top edges are NOT finished and have no detail, especially not like the detailed organic shapes of the railing, which looks sloppy to me and will probably be fixed in post production. Which means to me, again, special effects. Also, there’s no place for anyone to stand near that bluescreen, so it’s just background. Maybe just the two suns, but maybe more.
TBH, I don’t understand how any of you get Bellarke out of that.
it’s a BUILDING. It’s worldbuilding, not character arcs. I wouldn’t use this to figure out an emotional narrative. I feel like this fandom wants to make everything about a clue to ships and that isn’t what everything IS. Sometimes a building is about…the setting. It gives us some aesthetic. Some background. Maybe history, mood. Relationships are details that exist WITHIN the world they build, but the background doesn’t tell us about relationships.
To me, with the late timing of that, this to me says alien society, or the hidden part of the Eligius society. Otherwise we would have seen this early on in the filming. But no, this isn’t part of the peaceful society we’ve heard about?? Or it’s a new part of it. I think it will be the strange part of it.
I’m still on the aliens thing. This is what we’ve been told would be happening. Whether that is alien world or alien planet. Eligius has been there about 200 years, and this building seems to have been there a while, right? Or I’m assuming it’s an established place, but it doesn’t look like something a technologically advanced culture post earth apocalypse would build, style wise. It’s slightly organic/gothic…. oh, maybe we’re going SOLARPUNK.
IDK. People’s frame of reference seems to be “prom,” or maybe Cinderella, but I have questions and thoughts about this all.
If it’s a ball or prom that they need a choreographer for, although unless it’s highly stylized group dancing (and why hire a choreographer who does contemporary/broadway numbers instead of a folk dancer or something?) then why hire only FOUR dancers for it?
Four dancers + choreographer makes me think more along the lines of performance, meeting, presentation of characters who are utilizing the dance to tell part of the story.
The choreographer and many of the dancers seem to have a strange element to their work. The choreographer has a straight up WEIRD alien like dance number on her website, one of the dancers dances off the ground. One of them DOES have a ball number in OUAT though. Yes I googled the dancers and choreographer.
Why is dance part of the story when it never has been before? That makes it strange to this kind of storytelling, which fits, as we’re on an alien planet.
Why is it introduced so late in the season? Again it is another unusual thing that our heroes haven’t seen yet. That makes it, to me, part of a revelation of story. Not actually about Bellarke, but about the planet, the alienness, the mystery of what happened to eligius 4, and the main plot and possible big bad.
This set is also introduced late in the season at the same time as choreographer, so the dancing and set seem to be connected.
Perhaps there is a fairy tale element, or a dream element. They HAVE brought in fairy tales before, as early as the linctavia beauty and the beast storyline. BUT JR has referenced all movies and books that have an element of unreality, altered perception/time/reality, possible hallucination, dream or vision, so I find that just as likely as a ball. More likely. Do fairy tales have to be about princesses and balls? No. They don’t. Often they are about the deep dark woods, mystery, danger and magic. Even Disney does that. Fairy tale =/= romance.
What is with that weird orange color? At first I thought it was a sheet of plastic, but upon close viewing, there is a lot of textural and tonal detail IN the orange. However, the orange makes it look fake. Therefore I think it is one layer of what eventually will be some sort of digital effect. Maybe it’s like layers in a painting. Maybe that orange color is supposed to give the impression that the castle is GLOWING. ohhh. that would make sense.
Ok. The orange part of the castle kind of centers on that pretty organic archway with the kind of half mandala in it, that looks like a stained glass window, but it is not a perfect mandala or circle and the center of it is DEFINITELY organic like a tree root or octopus. AND the stone around it kind of warps like it is wrinkled or there is something growing under it. That shape is echoed in the bannister. Top edge of the castle also shows this wrinkle/warping, which is maybe why I thought it was a sheet of plastic at first. It’s not. It was designed to look like something organic, but in stone. where we can SEE the stone building blocks.
The castle is human sized. The steps are human sized so are the doors. This is a building for humanoids. However there are super tall archways that are NOT human sized. Why build an archway that tall when the others are human height?
A thing growing through a stone castle is not humanoid.
A thing growing through a stone castle and then echoed in the architecture of said castle is not an enemy, but something that is honored or worshipped or followed.
You know how Avatar (the movie with blue people) had that mother tree that was, like, the center of life and spirit?
Binch. If the alien on this planet is THE ACTUAL PLANET someone needs to come over here and do an exorcism to get Jason Rothenberg out of my head because I wrote this in a novel 12 years ago, which was ALSO about cryo sleep, which was part of how they got to the new planet to colonize it, which just so y’all know, I suggested as a way to be saved from praimfaya before season 4 started. BEFORE. In january. Also, my current series based on the same universe as that space colony one is called The Mandala Series. The first one was The Mythos Series. That thing in the center looks like a mandala.
If the alien beings on this planet are actually part of the planet, or a non human entity, AND we get choreography that is weird and dancers that can dance while hanging in space off of poles or ropes or vines or tentacles, then I suggest that there is a hybrid human/alien element, and the dancers will represent that new hybrid. Again, another idea from my novel. I might just be too deep into my novel to separate, and am reading into it, but that is how I came up with cryo theory and it turns out I was right.
JR is in my head.
Honestly, I don’t know how you guy come up with Bellarke and commence freaking out. I come up with living alien planets and hybrid alien/humans and commence freaking out. No offense, but my idea is more interesting than a ball. I mean. Maybe it’s a ball. That would be…. fun.
#the 100#speculation#bts#alien creature theory#last time i said my cryo theory was a crack theory and i'm not going to say that this time there's some evidence#but seriously get out of my head jr

Evaluation
I was interested in my chosen flipside words which was ‘Peace and Conflict’ because immediately I thought of WW1 and WW2. Throughout the years of being an artist I have thought about doing a project based on a massive conflict such as WW1/2. However, I never had the confidence to step out of my comfort zone to actually try and something unique.
The three pieces of artist research that has had an impact on my ideas/artwork was Pablo Picasso, Angie Lewin and Karl Schmidt. Pablo Picasso had a big impact on my work because of his piece of artwork called ‘Guernica’. His artwork ‘Guernica’ made me realise that I wanted my piece to be based on a massive tragedy and have meaning behind it.
Angie Lewin has been my favourite printer for years. She inspires me because she creates these amazing lino prints using sceneries all around her. I decided that I would use my own photographs of nature and sceneries to base my work on. She had a huge impacted not just on my FMP but me as an artist because her work was the reason for me to start printmaking. I enjoy all types of print making but my favourite has to be lino and that is because of Angie Lewin beautiful lino prints.
Karl Schmidt has had a impact on my work because again he is a printmaker. Furthermore, he uses geometrical shapes and lines to create this more bolder print and I love including shapes and lines in my artwork. So when I was introduced to this artist I know that I want to include his ideas of the lines and shapes into my FMP.
I did wider world research on the Bayeux Tapestry in Normandy, France. I watched part of a documentary on YouTube about the Bayeux Tapestry and learnt that it was all handstitched with wool. The Bayeux tapestry links in with my flipside theme because its all about a massive conflict. Furthermore, It links in with my thoughts on WW1/2 as that was a massive conflict in the past as well. But it links with my project work as I wanted to create a tapestry with all my prints and hand stitch my work.
The concept behind my work was that I wanted it to be about WW1/2 and the effects of conflict. However, in my work I included peace as I wanted to represent the innocent people that died and suffered during WW1/2. I wanted my work to have meaning and be unique. My main idea was I wanted to create a textile piece of work were I sewed back into my work using hand stitching or even embroidery.
One of the experiments that I did during my FMP for the first time was woodcut printing. The materials I used were fine liners, wooden board, ruler, paper, carbon paper, lino cutting tool, wooden cutting board, newspaper, ink roller, printing press, inking up board, black ink and paper. The techniques I used was wood craving, printing and sketching. I have learnt how to cut out a woodcut print, how to print my wood block design and overall how to create woodblock prints.
Firstly, I started out by drawing out three different designs for my wooden board using fine liners, paper and a ruler. I decided on my mandala design as I thought it was a challenging piece to do. Once I finalised my design using carbon paper I drew out my design onto my wooden board. After I had drawn it all out using my lino cutting tool I carefully cut out my design making sure I cut deep enough so when I printed my design you could see the design. Next, grabbed my inking up board and newspaper and laid them side by side. Placing my wood block design on to the newspaper. I squeezed some black ink onto my inking up board and rolled it out using my ink roller until it was even. I rolled the black ink evenly onto my wood block design. Then I took my design and a piece of paper over to the printing press. I placed my design down first then placed the paper on top. Printed my work I repeated these steps about five times until I was satisfied with all my outcomes.
One piece of art work from this project that I feel was the most valuable to my learning was my mandala drawings. The reason I believe this is because its opened another side of my artistic talents I didn’t know I had. I have always been interested in mandalas but I never actually artistically thought that I could create artwork from mandalas. I think the drawings were most successful pieces of artwork because I believed that my mandala gifs looked beautiful epically because I digital edited them. Overall, starting my FMP on mandalas had a massive impact because all I wanted to draw was my mandalas and experiment with them. Its helped build my confidence up a an artist as its helped me to experiment with new topics and ideas.
In the beginning on my FMP, I had no idea what my final outcome was going to turn out like. My initial ideas was to use the technique sewing and embroidery into my work. I wanted my work to have both peace and conflict but I had no idea what it was going to be about. When we were introduced at the beginning of our FMP we were give the topic mandalas and I wanted to maybe have a series of posters of mandalas for my final outcome. However, when I had my formative assessment Derek and me discussed about an idea I wanted to include in my work which was WW1. Derek had a gas mask and lent it to me to experiment with. We both discussed about my ‘Flipside mirror faces’ I did during lockdown and thought I could incorporate that into my work. This was the beginning of my final outcome.
I have learnt that your initial ideas don’t always go to plan. In the beginning I didn’t really have an idea at all, I know I wanted to maybe do a series of posters. I have learnt that doing loads of experiments and workshop can help unlock so many ideas. I mean after all the workshops we had do I just focused on the ones I most enjoyed and went from there.
I am so pleased with my final outcome I think it looks extraordinary, I can’t actually believe I manged to handstitched 20 prints and then sew them all together. It turned out better than what I expected because I thought it would be too plain but I love how it looks. The embroidery stitching helps it to stand out from the crowd and it looks so unique and incredible. I am so proud of myself for hand stitching all of my outcomes.
My plan to display my work at the end of year show it to use a painted white background and pin it to the wall. At first I thought about making it into a hanging piece but I realised it would just fold in on itself so I would have to pin it up.
If I could display my work anywhere in the world it would have to be the National WW1 Museum and Memorial in Kansas City, Missouri, United States. I would want to display my artwork here because I feel like I would be almost given back to the innocent people that died during WW1. As well I want my work to be seen by all the people interested in WW1 just like myself so it could inspire other people to create artwork about this historical event.
The 10 words I believe that describe my final piece is:
· Unique
· Extraordinary
· Ambitious
· Glowing
· Bright
· Eye-catching
· Fascinating
· Vibrant
· Appealing
· Astonishing
If I needed a soundtrack or music to go with my outcome it would be ‘Afterglow’ by Ed Sheeran. I would pick this sound track as my work is representing all those innocent lives that was lost during WW1 and its quite a depressing yet happy song. This song sort of makes me think of like all those innocent lives now at peace with the world. I love this song and I feel like it would compliment my work really well.
I spent probably around everyday trying to complete my final outcome. I would go into college, work the entire day then go some and once I had my dinner carry on sewing. Sometimes when my hands were tired I would spend time doing other work such as updating my blog or sorting/planning my week.
At home I work mainly in my bedroom by sitting on my bed or at my desk. Every now and then though if everyone was out I would sit in the living room or up at the dining room table.

At the beginning of my FMP I never knew how to produce a woodcut print which is one creative skill I had not done yet. However, one of the workshop we did was a woodblock print and I learnt how to execute and create some. I would like to create some more woodcut prints in the future.
My initial ideas were that I wanted to create a series of posters with embroidery and hand stitching. They have developed from this idea by all of the research and workshops I have done since we have been back from lockdown. As well I started to think about what materials I have access to now that we are back on site and that I don’t have such a small material range. My initial ideas has evolved from the series of posters because I started to experiment with lino printing as that’s one of my skills. Then realised that I don’t want to do posters I really want to create something nobody has ever seen before. I think my ideas really evolved is when Derek formative assessed me and spoke about ‘Guernica’ by Pablo Picasso. I wanted to do something similar to ‘Guernica’ and I wanted it to have meaning.
As I wanted my work to be about peace and conflict but have meaning I decided to add innocent things like flowers and butterflies to my gas mask to represent the innocent people that died. However, the gas mask to show the fallen soldiers that died in WW1 to save our country.

Module 1
Image 1: The plaque at the Banyan Tree located in Lahaina, Hawaii. The title, old photograph, and brief history of the tree provide context for the site. The variations in type and point allow the audience to identify the tree at a distance and choose to read the given information if close enough.
Image 2: Signage at an outdoor light event. The contrasting bright colors through the use of blacklight, space between letters, and the use of separate wood boards to create the exit sign is a legible way to give directions to those leaving the site. The color palette also contributes to the environment in which the artist was trying to create.
Image 3: Bill Mack art exhibit located in Lahaina, Hawaii. This specific exhibit displays the sculpture work Bill Mack has done. Although the type with the artists name is not the center of the display, the uppercase lettering contrasts well with the slightly golden sculptures. The wall grid and design display create an eye-grabbing moment when you walk into the gallery, as the sculptured figures appear to be coming out of the square frame.
Image 4: “Be Here Now” by Ram Dass. The book cover contrasts between the royal blue background and the bright white serif typeface. The featured illustration of the mandala incorporates the image of the chair, the title, and the word ‘Remember’ repeated four times all connected by radial lines. The illustration and the title being incorporated on the cover communicates the spiritual message of the book, that we are connected to all things.
Image 5: An inside page from “Be Here Now” by Ram Dass. The section featured is an aphorism accompanied by a hand-drawn illustration. The variations of point emphasize important parts of the aphorism in which the graphic designer would like the audience to focus on more. The overall design of the book demonstrates the expressive style of the author, where slight chaos creates a whimsical feel.
The Module 1 readings provided insight as to how graphic design can be used to promote specific feelings within the audience. Graphic design comes in many forms yet is extremely influential as to what is considered aesthetically pleasing at first glance.
