Perzy couldn't help but huff out a sound that had he had a better grip on anything running through his head, he would've called a laugh. Something was the understatement of the century as far as he was concerned, but he didn't push Bivans on it. Instead he collapsed in his usual chair and put his head between his knees trying to divert his attention from his grey matter to something more physical. "I don't know," he mumbled at the floor. "I don't know if I want to believe it. " He said. If there had been survivors and Perzy had left them? That was almost worse than having them all be gone.
-
he brought over two cups of caff and set one on the table next to perzy, then put his own on his side.
β well, β he started, treading lightly as he tried to consider the best way to go about this. β given what you told me. and given what i know about the galaxy, which is that good people never get what they deserve and bad people seem to get everything... odds are, the survivors are... just more first order people. they got the mines up 'n running again without you guys. which is... horrifying in itself, but not impossible. β
he took a sip of his caff, still thinking. β but regardless of what's left, it's not like you would've known anyway. you were a kid, all you could do was run. blaming yourself that you didn't know there might've been survivors when you watched everything go down in a volcanic eruption is... a waste of your time, and incredibly incorrect. β he understood survivor's guilt, but there was no reason for it.
β but this could be a positive thing, y'know. it's a chance for some closure, at least. might not get everything, but you could get somethin', which is more than some ever get. β

"So I hear, not that I have much experience," he remarked. Lona was basically his mom, he had so few memories of the woman who gave birth to him. Kepler had slightly more experience all things considered. "And hey, just because I don't have a lot of friends doesn't mean I'm suffering for company. I'd prefer a tight collection of a few people than sprawling casualty with a bunch, y'know?" He said, risking peaking up at her through his eyelashes, before turning back to the final screw of that particular section.
-
kepler smiled a little. β i know, β she said in reference to his friendship preference. β there's nothing wrong with it. they'll fuss whether you have one friend or a million friends, the tone just changes from not having enough to having far too many. β
regardless, she thought castor was great the way he was. she understood lona and the girls' intentions, but they just didn't understand him like she did.

"Oh yeah, the good news is this place does have seasons surprisingly, in spite of the whole three sun situation, so winter'll come soon enough. Not that it'll be like Hoth or anything but you get what I mean." She replied as she sat down next to him. "But managing's only gonna get you so far, so, how can I help? I'm sort of a jack of all, master of none at the moment, you tell me something and I can probably point you in the right direction. We're gonna aim for enjoyment and then work towards living." Alyrisa was still looking out for people, it was instinctual at this point, the perpetual older sibling trying to make sure people got taken care of. Maybe that's why her and Kota hit it off so well.
-
dorsey went silent as alyrisa accidentally tripped her way into a trigger even dorsey didn't know he had.
when things were getting really bad, he begged his parents to go on a long vacation far away -- they were big into camping and exploring the wilds, so they decided on Hoth. it was all a big ploy to get them far away so crimson dawn couldn't take them. it was why they were gone when dorsey got his concussion.
memories of that strange stretch of two or three weeks mashed around in his head, but it always ended with the same thing -- the end. their awful fucking end that was all dorsey's fault.
he took in a deep breath, feeling dizzy. β oh, uh, we... um. we're... we're just waiting to... to build our place. so it's... goof off in the meantime. all good. so... solid. β

Alyrisa couldn't help but laugh, "Alyrisa Dorian, you can call me Al," she said finding their shared name a funny coincidence. She looked at the pack of chaos and smiled a little bit more. Yeah, these guys were gonna be fun to hang out with. Kota was always saying she needed friends her own age as compared to a decade or so older. "I'm the mayor's kid, figured you guys could use a local to help get the lay of the land if nothing else. Since it seems you guys are gonna be here for a bit." She said as she shoved her hands into her pocket. She knew how much the town could get used to if thrown into the deep end as it were. These guys also struck her as needing all the help they could get with reintegration into polite society. Not as much as like some the rougher force users or Mandos, but in a "twenty something boy" sort of way.
dorsey smiled a little more naturally, noting the coincidence too. β cool -- nice to meet you, al. β he was pretty sure he briefly remembered seeing her when doc was talking to the mayor.
he glanced over at the pack of boys playing around, then back at her. β we're uh... we're managing, β he replied. β we have a good leader. β truthfully doc was the one thing keeping them all above water, which was bad when a pack of almost fifteen was dragging down a lone man. dorsey was trying to not be a problem.
he gripped his hands together. β i think the heat has been the biggest issue. so- uh, could be worse. β

Castor set to work, carefully working on the sections she'd indicated that needed work, occasionally feeling his tongue poke out as he did and occasionally humming when he found a place that was going to need a hint more work than Kepler'd indicated. When she spoke he let his gaze briefly flick up to her as he processed his question. "Scarlet's fine. Lons runs a tight ship, she's just gotten instant on me stopping by more often. She's afraid of becoming more antisocial than I already am or something," he explained.
kepler gave a little huff. β yeah, well, when your only friend is me or a buncha droids, anyone would be concerned. β she was teasing, of course. she did want castor to be happy and healthy, though of course the selfish part of her kinda liked having him all to herself for the most part.
οΏ½οΏ½οΏ½ she just loves you. it's what momma's are prone to do. β

bivans' brows furrowed. he knew that this was complicated, hell he probably knew more about perzy's backstory than anybody. so he wasn't jumping for joy, but it wasn't devastating either.
β well. that is somethin', huh. β he dropped the rag and moved to his little kitchen, setting up some caff. β do you want advice or do you want support? β
bivans had learned very quickly to ask when it came to helping the purgers -- he didn't want to do the wrong thing. he knew what he wanted to do, but it might not be what perzy wanted.
Perzy's head was swimming like a drowning man.
It kept slipping in and out of focus as he'd walked back onto the ship like more of a ghost than he'd been when he'd first gotten onboard.
Stragglers.
Just enough to get it moving again.
Perzy didn't know what to think, what to say, he just moved on autopilot towards Bivans, if anyone knew how to help him make sense of what emotion was tearing his ribcage about like a rampaging rabid boar, it was him.
He'd tried to enter like normal, but based on the reaction he got, something was still getting to him.
"Snake-- he... there are still people there."
It was all he needed to say.

bivans didn't want this to be yet another ruined promise -- he wanted them to actually have a break. he had been watching these purgers come and go and fucking suffer, basically from the start. and it was breaking him to know that there was fuck all he could do about it other than to just watch and be a shoulder to cry on. it's what led him to perzy in the first place. a kid that needed a shoulder, and bivans knew he could do something to help. he could be someone that this kid could rely on.
so when perzy practically busted down his door on the purge ship, he wasn't entirely surprised, but worried all the same. he sat up from the thing he was working on and grabbed a rag to clean off his hands.
β hey, kid... what's got you in a fix? β he asked, brows furrowed.

dorsey flinched and looked over, slapping on a smile. β oh!! i- yeah, i think so, β he replied. dorsey had not been doing well since the, oh, everything. he was doing a semi-solid job of appearing normal to his team, but he did have a crazed spark in his eye that screamed "i don't know about you but having my mom's brains splattered across my face will really do something to a guy!"
β i'm dorian, most call me dorsey. these are the jakals, β he introduced, gesturing to his team, which were goofing off and playing some sort of game he hadn't fully caught onto yet.
When Kota had told her about yet another haggard father figure appearing in his office looking for a bit of shelter for a chaotic group of guys, Alyrisa knew that as much it was going to give her dad a heart attack, stroke, hernia, or aneurysm, she had to meet the pack. Besides, what he didn't know wouldn't hurt him! This time!
She'd gotten the general sense that the easiest way to find them was to listen for chaos and follow into the epicenter. Not too dissimilar of a method on how to find her or any of the 612th on any given day.
The good news was nothing was on fire, but she did find an unfamiliar guy roughly around her age, which was a good enough sign for her.
"So you're the newest chaotic element?" She asked with a head tilt.

Sixie chirps and beeps echoed through the shop, that Castor still heard them from his apartment as he swapped clothing, making sure his screwdriver made the transfer, and picked up his tools specific to working on Kepler's arm. He rolled his sleeves up and wandered his way back down and found her curled up with the sherbet colored droid, much more cat like than the spherical pounds of metal implied. "I mean, I can work down there, but it's gonna be more comfortable if we're sitting a little bit more elevated, and if you beep nicely, I'll give ya a lift up Six," he said with a chuckle. Sixie chirped and rolled around his legs insistently. He was always going to lift her up, it helped Kepler focus on something else, but sue him, he liked to tease his droid.
-
kepler stood when castor made himself known again, and waited to help get sixie up on the counter. she sat where castor instructed her to sit, and took a deep breath. this stuff was never fun.
when he got to work, she immediately tensed and cleared her throat. β so- uh, everything okay over at the scarlet? nothing crazy happened in the last two days? β she asked, just trying to hear something other than the screwdriver. or her nerves.

burak rolled his eyes, but with a small smile on his face. β get over it, fucker. she loves you regardless. β and after everything that elif had told him, burak could see why. marx had a lot of lovely qualities. and fuck's sake, he was cute. watching him have his conniption about his face was making it very hard not to laugh.
β you're not doing anything wrong, β he reassured. his voice almost... warm. endeared. β you're very... reactive. but that's not necessarily a bad thing, unless you're trying to conceal how you're feeling about something. β fuck it.
yeah, fuck it.
he reached out and lightly graced the stubble on marx's cheek. β elif won't be able to get enough of you. β
in that moment marx became painfully aware of how his face probably looked. oh gods. he never had to think of that before. he ran his hand down his face and squeezed his cheeks between his fingers, it finally sinking in that someone else was seeing him. actually seeing him. and it was incredibly freeing as it was terrifying.
" i don't deserve her love, " marx replied, not in any sort of attempt to gain pity from burak, but simply stating the truth. he glanced up to the other and took a step forward, a sort of eagerness in his eyes. " my face. what's wrong with it? i must be doing something wrong. it feels like i am. "

the troopers didn't budge for a moment, still keeping gus locked in place to try and quell their thrashing. β we arrested them for suspicious activity, and they're resisting. we were told to bring them here, β the modulated voice explained.
β i didn't do anything wrong!! β gus cried, trying to make it sound as furious as they seemed, but there was a tinge of sadness and despair that made it seem like the phrase was meant to be said to someone else. fuck, they couldn't breathe. this wasn't fair.
β i didn't, i didn't do anything wrong, i was just exploring, i- β gus felt lightheaded, the tears streaking down their cheeks made it difficult to see. they wanted jury. they felt like a child.
kane and gus were incredibly similar despite absolutely not being aware of it. the knight was up late that night too, as he often was, unable to sleep and instead walking through the first order base aimed at leaving, needing to just get out as well.
now, someone being dragged into the base wasn't exactly unheard of. sure, it was less now that things were getting better versus when the first order was in it's peak control of the planet, but it was normal enough that it wasn't something that would normally cause kane to even glance their way. except this time he did, feeling a familiar pull towards the direction and when he glanced over his shoulder, he froze.
' you have to be fucking kidding me, ' were the only thoughts in his head, because of course it would be him, the person kane was trying so hard not to think of. he didn't want to think about having a fucking sibling or any of that. nope. no. just keep walking.
except he didn't. except he found himself turning on his heel and following after the troopers, the knights looming presence enough to get them to stop walking and turn to face him.
" release them, " he demanded cooly, in such a calm tone that it was bordering on eerie.

the two were about to get up and go inside when they watched the droid streak towards them from the forest. ezra had no fucking clue how to react, and truthfully neither did ayda. as cal approached, ezra looked away. ayda just looked... sad.
when cal spoke, ayda perked up. β hi, β she said softly back. she was so anxious, tears pricked in her eyes. none of them knew what to say or do, it felt doomed. why should it be, though? isn't this what they wanted; for cal to come home?
β we waited for you, β ayda said after a few moments. β e-every day, we waited -- please, please let me explain everything, it all got so messed up and- and we need to apologize! β
ezra's mouth twitched into a deeper frown.
the jedi was a turbulent mess of emotions, a storm that didn't start to calm until a week after everything had gone down. there were many sleepless nights where they sat awake, just trying to find any sort of peace on the matter, a peace that never came. because it was one thing to just say they were done, to move on and leave the other two behind as nothing but memories. but that? that was impossible. it was ezra and ayda. they were each part of his soul. and the longer that cal spent away, the less and less he felt like himself.
did he entirely know how he felt on the matter? no. did he come to any sort of resolution within himself? also no. but the one thing he did know, was that he needed the other two, and they could figure all of the rest out later. they only hoped that ezra and ayda still wanted them around after they stormed off in the way they did.
as always, it was bd-1 who was spotted before cal, the little droid speeding back to where the other two were steps ahead of him once they realized where they were going. he popped up and stood in front of the two of them, tippy tapping as he waited for cal to catch up, beeping away happily. and finally when cal did catch up, they stood in front of the two of them, hesitantly catching each of their gazes before finding their voice to speak.
" uh - hi .. "

the pain of jury rejecting her was actually indescribable. for an independent kid that swore that nothing would ever hurt them, the idea that her found family didn't fucking want her was beyond devastating. she thought she'd finally found someone that wanted her, and she was dead wrong. and sure. being around davy's family was nice -- they were all very nice. but it wasn't the same, not when that conversation was a never-ending loop in the back of their skull, marking every move they made. so, sometimes they left and wandered around town, usually at night, just to be alone. no one would bother him, at least. no one really gave a shit. that night, gus had been absently climbing one of the spires nearby -- not to do anything nefarious, just for some exercise -- when suddenly there were flashlights aimed towards her and the barking of modulated orders. she looked down to see four stormtroopers demanding that she come down. with a huff and an eyeroll, they did. β fuck's sake, what now? β she asked, putting her hands up in irritation. β i wasn't doing anything bad, i was just climbing! β they didn't really care, it seemed suspicious so they told her that they could argue their case later. and then they put them in cuffs. and gus started freaking the fuck out. they dragged them towards the first order base, and the whole world started closing in on them. no jury to rescue her, of course. she was fucked. so, so fucked. tears burned in her eyes as she fought as hard as she could to get out of their grasp.

cal hadn't come back for nearly two goddamn weeks, and it was definitely getting to ezra and ayda. maybe he really was done with them. maybe it was all over. ezra had certainly taken it the hardest -- neglecting to shave, neglecting to go out much, just overall neglecting to do anything. he was fucking hopeless without cal, they were together first because they were meant to be, they were fated to be together, for fuck's sake!! ayda was upset too. she blamed herself. if she had just told cal what happened in the first place instead of letting him find out in a shock, it could've been resolved. she hated thinking that they didn't trust him when it couldn't be further from the truth. they adored him and they just didn't know how to tell him of such a scary moment. she found herself sitting on the dock of the ship every day, waiting until nightfall in the hopes that she'd see cal coming. night was nearing yet again, and ezra strolled out, lightly tapping her back with his foot. β he's not coming. you know he's not, β he said flatly. β he left us, remember. β β b-but we- but we love him- he has to come back... β ayda replied, her hands clasping together. they had this conversation nearly every night. β he doesn't love us. he gave up. we hurt him. gotta get over it some day. β despite prompting her to get up, he crouched down beside her. he pulled her in, resting his lips on the top of her head.

Carver shook their head, "don't worry about that, so long as you can respect a closed door, I'm sure we'll be able to get along just fine. Like Paskal said, presence and friendship is good enough for me. I mean, have you seen the way I live? C'mon," they added. Carver surrounded themselves with trinkets and oddities and things most people would claim have "no use" other than looking weird. He was the last person to expect any sort of reciprocity in a friendship.
-
diallos nodded. he was still unsure, but he could respect that just fine; he had been for years so it seemed he wouldn't need to change that.
paskal looked over at carver. β sounds like a plan. so, if you ever need some translating or help, i live around here now so i'm always available to help! β

Castor laughed a little at her stumbling, oblivious to the inner turmoil, "You okay Kep? Nothing infected too?" He teased as they came up on the shop. Sixie immediately rolled out from behind the counter and whirled around Kepler's feet, chirping up a storm and doing her hardest to bounce without really having the ability to. "Clearly, someone missed you," Castor said with a soft smile. He always loved when people close to him actually got along well with his droids. Even if the droids in the shop weren't his, in specific, he tried to look after them as if they were. "I'll go change, don't blow anything up," he said as he ducked upstairs into his apartment above the shop.
-
she scoffed and rolled her eyes. β i'm fine, you freak. β god, she was an embarrassment. she'd been trying to hide her stupid little crush on castor since she was, like, twelve. and she wasn't very good at it, but castor didn't notice, so that was fine by her. she knew that the batuuans were nosy but they wouldn't out her business to him, so that's all she really gave a shit about.
when sixie bounded towards her, she grinned and kneeled down to give her pats and cuddles. β hey sherbie! i'm so glad to see you, β she said. she really did miss the droid.

he nodded a little. he didn't totally care one way or another that she didn't lose anyone in the war -- everyone lost friends and family, that was part of the deal and no one was particularly special for having lost more or less than anyone else. at least it meant it would make things a little easier in 'befriending' her. she might've had a chip on her shoulder about the whole deal, but she probably didn't hate his guts, which would make his life a little easier. less effort that he had to put in there.
β er... right. β he kept his view ahead, but would glance at her occasionally when he could feel her gaze on her -- give off the idea that he was at least thinking about her. β i'm sure they'll... whatever. batuu brings people back. β it was a fun little game, pretending to pretend.
kaydel started to lead their way through the rest of the resistance camp. this place was her home, and she knew it well. so well that she knew the way they were walking to the little neighborhood of residents tents was the path that was least common, meaning not as many people would be around. maybe it was risky but she also didn't want to push it. she knew everyone had their own thoughts and opinions on what happened, and she wasn't in the mood to deal with any of it.
truthfully, she was trying to decide how she even felt about all of this. upset? sure. angry? of course. the trooper rebellion was exactly the kind of thing that had her join the resistance in the first place. in the last couple of years, with things being more about political moves instead of fighting on a battlefield or in the stars, she had come to a sort of peace. like she could breathe and relax, just for a moment. allies and friends were coming back to join them. hell - leia coming back was huge. cassian too. kaydel had let herself be filled with that optimism that things were looking up.
until they didn't. until it all came crashing down. she cared about kota; everyone did. just because things didn't pan out with them romantically didn't mean that she stopped caring. he helped uncover the revelation that her sister was not only alive, but had been there in the resistance and a friend all along. he was still her friend. so of course the rebellion and his death had stirred up emotions in kaydel. there was still a lot of work to do to take down the first order. and this assignment with nero was only one of the first steps.
his words brought her out of her thoughts. she looked over at him and furrowed her brow. she looked at him for a moment, still trying to get a read on someone she didn't know at all. it was an impossible task for her. so instead she just gave a small smile and a shrug.
" my family is fine. they're alive, at least. but we were a mess since before the war, but that's not anyone's fault really, " she said. " i've been in the resistance since the earliest days. i've lost a lot of friends in battle. friends i consider family, " she turned her head to look at nero then. she knew it would be an unpopular opinion, but she didn't feel right directing the anger she felt towards the first order as a whole onto him solely. he didn't have a choice in the matter, they took away the ability to make those choices from him and all the other troopers. it was the same she felt towards finn when they first met. what mattered now was what he did next.
" but, that's a part of war.. i suppose. still. it's not exactly something they teach you how to deal with in the military academy, " she added with a little scoff.
