Do you ever think about how lonely Steve must have felt during the first Avengers film? He’s only 27, but everyone treats him like his technical age of 94. He’s in an environment that should feel familiar to him but instead feels completely different. He’s trying to get his head around 70 years worth of missed history on top of readjusting to civilian life. And then he’s pushed into a dysfunctional group, and he has to take charge, because if he doesn’t take charge then everyone is going to die.
#steve rogers#captain america#mcu#wanda maximoff#avengers#marvel#steve is the youngest and oldest avenger#he's the youngest out of all 6 of them#by comparison Tony is 38#Bruce is 35 and Natasha is 28#Clint is 41#no wonder Steve was so protective of Wanda#he knows exactly what it's like to be faced with a new environment#as the youngest#where everyone sees you for your powers instead of just you#and then lose somebody close during a fight#he definitely acts like the oldest because of the era and his maturity#but he's still the youngest by age#wonder if that's why natasha was specially assigned to steve#besides being really good with people situations#natasha is closest in age to steve out of all the avengers#only a year or two older#twilight-zoned-out

Steve’s Christmas Miracle Chapter 6
Darcy had returned to the office with a deep feeling of bittersweet satisfaction and a strange longing she hasn’t felt for a long time. She was pretty sure she’d broken rule number one and that was a huge no-no. She immediately requested administrative duties for the foreseeable future as she struggled to come to terms with having fallen in love with her mission.
She was stamping and sorting files morosely when Natasha came in.
“Hey, Darcy. You look like you’ve lost your best friend. What’s wrong?”
“Nothing,” Darcy lied, stamping the file of one Glenda Adams as “FAILED”.
“Don’t give me that. I can read you like a book.”
“Then you already know what’s wrong,” Darcy said petulantly, stamping the next file with a little more force than necessary.
“Maybe, but you need to talk about it someday.”
“I know. It just hurts a little too much right now,” Darcy admitted.
“Well, I’ll be here when you’re ready. Michael would like to see you in his office, though.”
Darcy looked up in alarm.
“Right now? Am I in trouble?”
“Yes, right now. And no, you’re not. I think he just wants a little debriefing, that’s all.”
She sighed and stamped the last file.
“Alright, I’m going.”
“You wanted to see me, Sir?” she asked, upon entering Michael’s office.
“Sit down, Darcy. You’re not in trouble. Agent Carter was concerned about you and I wanted to make sure you’re okay. Some of these missions can be quite a lot emotionally.”
Darcy sat down and nodded, not able to look him in the eyes. She decided to just confess and get it over with.
“I told myself I wasn’t going to break any rules, it was gonna be by the book. But then I went and broke rule number one,” she admitted. “It physically hurt to leave him. I’ve never had that happen before and now I’m upset with myself. I should be beyond that kind of thing now. I’ve been here eighty years, after all. He shouldn’t be allowed to be that cute and kind and sassy.”
She buried her face in her hands, embarrassed at her word vomit.
“Darcy, you have nothing to be ashamed of,” Michael told her gently. “You helped Steve find his path again. It wouldn’t have worked if you didn’t truly care for him. That was why we picked you.”
“I didn’t expect to care for him that much,” Darcy said miserably.
“I know,” Michael told her. “Listen, I might have a very special assignment coming up for you, but it’s one that needs to be approved by Higher Up. So, be patient for a bit and keep your chin up. I’ll let you know one way or the other.”
Now, heavenly time does not run at the same speed as Earth time, so while Steve was running around bringing his newfound Christmas joy to others, Darcy was working away patiently for several weeks, wondering when she’d hear about this special assignment.
Natasha came in one day, eyes sparking with delight, and practically dragged Darcy back to Michael’s office.
Michael was beaming at her, and she felt like something wonderful was about to happen.
“Good news, Darcy! You’ve been approved for this very, very special assignment!”
He passed her a folder and she flipped it open eagerly, eyes widening as she read what it said.
“Are you serious? I get a do-over on life?”
“To put it bluntly, yes,” Michael confirmed. “Though be aware it will come with the pain and struggles of earthly life again. I’m guessing though, that you will find it to be worth it. Agent Romanoff, give her the teaser trailer.”
“With pleasure!” Natasha declared, waving her hand.
A series of images flashed across Darcy’s visions: laughing on the back of Steve’s motorcycle, the breeze blowing her hair, studying on a computer for a college class, graduating and receiving a congratulatory kiss from Steve that made her cheeks heat just watching it, a glimpse of a ring sliding on her finger, and then a little dark haired baby in Steve’s arms. Growing old and creaky with Steve and slow-dancing in the kitchen. She gasped when the images finally faded.
“I want it.” She whispered. “All of it. Even the bad stuff.”
“I thought that might be the case,” Michael smiled at her. “We will certainly miss you up here, but you’ll be back one day. In the meantime, go and enjoy the life you’ve always wanted.”
“Thank you, Michael.” Darcy abruptly got up and scooted around the desk to give him an impulsive hug, which he accepted good-naturedly. Michael really was a gem.
“Agent Carter will get your documents in order so you will be able to have proper government ID. Agent Romanoff, will you take Darcy to wardrobe? She needs something more practical and festive.”
“Absolutely. Come on, Darcy,” Natasha ordered. “We’ll get you all ready to surprise the heck out of Steve.”
Darcy quite liked that plan and they soon found her a very cute outfit of black leggings, green sweater dress and sparkly belt, and the cutest boots she’d ever seen. Natasha also packed her a suitcase with some fuzzy slippers and Christmas pjs.
“There will be money provided for you to buy the other things you need when you get to earth,” Natasha told her. “And here comes Peggy with your documents!”
“Lovely,” Peggy complimented. “Put this packet in your suitcase and do not lose it. These are very important for starting your new life and entering the workforce. And tell Steve to do you a solid and get dancing lessons.”
Darcy grinned as she packed the papers away. “I will. He’s got a lot of potential in those long limbs.”
Peggy snorted. “I like you, Darcy. If we’d have known each other in life, I probably would have tried to recruit you to the SSR.”
“Why thank you. I would have enjoyed that,” Darcy acknowledged, flushing a bit at the compliment. She knew Peggy wasn’t one to throw them out there without meaning them.
“Are you ready?” Natasha asked.
Darcy took a deep breath.
“Yes.”
“Alright then. We’ll see you on the other side, Agent Lewis.”
As Darcy disappeared, Natasha stealthily stuck a bow on top of her head.
When she reappeared, she was on the porch of Steve’s little cabin. Taking a deep breath, she took in the wintry scene with delight, shivering a bit as well. It had been awhile since she’d felt cold.
She watched a motorcycle pull up the driveway and grinned when Steve pulled off his helmet. He came running toward her looking concerned.
“Darcy? How In the World?” he panted, stopping on the porch stairs, with a look of adorable confusion on his face.
“Merry Christmas,” she said, smiling at him a little nervously.
Steve’s confusion turned into a grin and he walked up to her and pulled something off of her head.
“Are you my present?” he asked teasingly, waving the red bow around.
She blushed and rolled her eyes.
“That was Nat’s doing. You know how she is.”
Steve laughed. “Yep. Seems about right. But in all seriousness, what’s going on?”
“Well, Steve. You’re not the only one who’s being given a second chance this Christmas. I haven’t had the ability to feel cold in almost a century, and here I am, back in a human body and getting goosebumps.” She held up her arm, shivering a bit.
Steve’s jaw dropped, but he quickly unlocked the door and steered her inside, piling her with blankets, then gently rubbing her cold hands with his.
“Are you saying you’re here to stay?” He asked hopefully.
Darcy was having trouble thinking coherently with him so close to her, but she nodded.
“I am. You’re gonna be my special assignment for the rest of our lives.”
Steve’s eyes twinkled and he smiled softly at her.
“I love the sound of that, Darcy. I might just have to kiss you now.”
“I’m on board with that,” she whispered.

Natasha Romanoff x Reader : You Again
Summary: It’s been years since seeing each other and a lot has changed.
Genre: Fluff , Mentions of Smut
Request: Yes / No
Word Count: 2,478
* * * * * *
Green eyes discreetly watch their surroundings as the redhead makes her way down the street. She purposely avoids stepping too close to anyone.
Her hand shoves into her pocket to retrieve her vibrating phone. A blocked number displayed across the top of the phone telling her exactly who is calling.
Turning down an empty alley, she answers.
As expected it’s Fury requesting that she come in and she agrees without hesitation. The call ending just as she’s on the other side of the alley.
The second someone collides into her shoulder she tenses and levels them with a glare.
E/c eyes instantly flicker over her form,“ I’m so sorry I’m in a bit of a rush, are you okay?” The voice belonging to the offender sounds wildly familiar, causing the redhead to frown and look up at their face.
The woman in front of her raises an eyebrow, a concernedly soft smile tugs at her lips.
“I-I’m fine.” Natasha says, the frown still deep on her face.
Nodding, the h/c takes a small step to the side, and continues to rush down the sidewalk.
The encounter remains in Natasha’s mind until she gets to the compound. She just can’t shake how familiar the woman looked. Those eyes were ones she swears she’s seen before, that voice pulled at something seemingly buried deep in her memory.
It’s not until she’s standing in front of Fury himself that she let’s the thoughts ghost away.
“You took your sweet time Romanoff.” He says with a stone face, but knowing him for years allows Natasha to detect the teasing in his tone.
Moving her curls over her shoulder with a shake of her head, the redhead smirks,“ I was in the city Nick.”
He nods in understanding.“ Well now that you’re here, welcome to your new assignment,” he holds a file out to her.
She accepts it and flips it open. The frown from earlier returns as she looks at the list of recruits, the same familiar face from earlier stares back at her from one of the many pictures.
“Don’t tell me all your Avenging has made you too hot for recruit training.” Fury teases once more.
“No just- where’s the file on recruit seventeen?” Her inquiry makes Fury raise his eyebrows, head raising in further curiosity.
However he searches through the stack of files on his desk,“ lucky for you they haven’t been processed yet.” He hands her yet another file and she tries her best to refrain from frantically flipping it open.
The second she sees the name at the top her breath hitches.
There’s no way it’s you.
* * * * * * *
Perched behind the ledge on the building’s roof, Natasha once again peaks through the scope of her sniper.
“I’d truly appreciate if you didn’t kill him. Not until he’s answered my questions at least.”
The voice put Natasha on guard instantly. She can’t recall the last time someone had snuck up on her.
Spinning around, a stoic expression plastered on her face to hide her true emotions, Natasha comes face to face with a woman nearly four inches shorter than her. An amused smirk plays on the woman’s face and it instantly irritates Natasha.
“I’m afraid your questions will have to go unanswered.” The redhead replies, just waiting for a challenge.
The woman’s hands raise in a show of harmlessness,“ I won’t make your job harder, I imagine if you’ve been looking for him as long as I have this is a rare opportunity.” Nonchalantly she comes closer, raising a questioning eyebrow as she points at the sniper’s scope. Natasha frowns but nods, watching as the woman looks through it.“ What if you just took out his legs. I go in, ask my questions and you finish your job after I’m gone.”
“What makes you think I’m willing to help you?”
“Isn’t that what heroes are supposed to do, help people?” An eyebrow raises at Natasha.“ Come on Black Widow, you scratch my back I scratch yours.”
Green eyes narrow at the use of her alias. Something tells her that her identity was known before she was approached.“ Who are you?” She asks.
“Ooo introductions, fun. I’m Y/n but you can call me Ghost.” You hold your hand out to the redhead.“ I work special operations for a private organization. As mentioned, I’m just here to get some answers. Your target is a scientist gone rogue, if I don’t speak to him a lot of people could get hurt, myself included.”
Natasha’s head raises, eyes scanning your face for any hint of deception.“ I know who he is.” It’s not surprising that someone else is after the doctor, just surprising that someone found him when she did.
Taking a risk, unlike anything she’d ever do, she agrees to help.
A plan quickly forms between the two of you that executes perfectly. You get your information and she takes out her target, both of you gone without a trace.
“You know, we made a pretty decent team.” A teasing smile hits your lips as you glance at the woman beside you.
“Don’t get used to it.” For the first time tonight, a smirk plays on Natasha’s lips.
Chuckling, you nod,“ since we’ll never see each other again, how would you feel about a celebratory drink?”
Once again, she finds herself taking a risk.
* * * * * * *
Natasha pulls herself from that train of thought before she can dive into the remaining events of that night, though she can faintly remember the feel of your hands across her heated skin as whispers of her beauty left your lips. That wasn’t even the last night it had happened, what you did to her left her hooked.
So much so that it became a regular occurrence for her to end up in your bed when she was assigned to missions in Canada. Connecting with you in bed inevitably lead to a stronger connection emotionally.
It stumped Natasha how you’d managed to get through her facades as if it were nothing. Even more so than that, she wasn’t expecting you to understand her so well, not even her closest friend, the man she considers her brother, understood her the way you did.
But then the Avengers became a thing and she wasn’t sent on missions to Canada anymore.
“When was she recruited?” Natasha asks, finally looking up from the picture of you.
“A few months ago, she found us and that,” the man chuckles impressively,“ that’s impressive on it’s own.”
With nothing more to say to Fury, Natasha nods non verbally accepting the mission, and leaves out. Heading straight to the elevators that would take her to the training floor.
Common noises of the compound could be heard: another group of trainees outside with Sam and Steve, faint sounds of orders being shouted, occasional drilling sounds.
Stepping into the training room, Natasha’s eyes scan the small group of recruits, and land on you.
No wonder she wasn’t sure if you were familiar or not. Last time she saw you, you were shorter than her, just as skinny. Now you’re almost a foot taller, more meat on your bones as defined muscles.
Your eyes land on her and you smirk, winking just barely.
Of course you recognized her, only difference in her is the length of her hair. Those enticing green eyes are still just that, curves still accentuated by the leather catsuit, expression just as stoic as the night you met.
Calling the recruits into order, Natasha runs through the basic entry speech, words of intimidation and motivation spoken to reach the hearts of those who aren’t ready and those born ready. She can easily detect who won’t last longer than a week, you aren’t one of them.
“Pair up, combat training begins now, if you can’t take down each other you have no business in the field.” She says, then looking you dead in the eyes,“ seventeen you’re with me.”
Nodding, you follow her over to a set of mats near the window, stepping up to face her head on. There’s just enough time to release a single breath and then she’s attacking. To anyone else she does so with movements as calm as the wind, each strike or counter move executed with precision.
But you, you know her in a way nobody does, nobody ever has. It allows you to see the slight irritation in her punches, the anxiousness and curiosity in her eyes. It’s how you see that her guard is back up in regards to you.
You let her get the upper hand, yes let, just so she can pin you to the mat, your arm behind your back in her grasp with her mouth to your ear.
“Whatever you’re worried about Romanova, let it go. I’m not here with any bad intentions.” You speak, voice as smooth as the day she first heard it.
Her eyes narrow,“ so why are you here?”
“To see you.” You smile only to grunt when her arm presses into the back of your neck.“ Okay okay. I left the last organization once it fell into the wrong hands, HYDRA’s hands. I found out through some reliable sources that the Avengers were hunting down HYDRA. After what they did to me, what they may still be doing to my friends,” Natasha’s grip has long since loosened, allowing you to shift slightly,“ I have to stop them.”
Releasing you completely, Natasha pops up and offers you a hand of assistance.“ What did they do to you?”
A snort falls from your lips, your arms spreading out,“ don’t tell me it's been so long you don’t notice. Maybe if I-” playfully you squat down to the height you used to be. You smile when you see the slightly amused smirk on Natasha’s lips, accompanied by an eye roll.“ They made me Captain America 2.0 and at first I was with the idea, until I got word of what their true intentions were.”
“They wanted you to be a weapon.” She understands. If no one else ever will, she does. You nod solemnly and the ex-assassin sees how much you’re torn up by the corruption of the organization. It’s like looking in a mirror, that’s exactly how she felt about SHIELD collapsing.
With present company around, you both agree to talk after training, Natasha telling you to come to her quarters after you’ve checked in.
So for the time being you focus on training, nailing the hand to hand combat with Natasha before being handed over to Sam Wilson for basic exercises and a run around the compound, where you’re shown the trainee’s residence.
After checking in with the agent in charge of your training group, you shower, change, and head to the main building in search of Natasha.
It doesn't take long to find her since you follow her directions perfectly.
Looking around at her luxury apartment like quarters, you can’t say you expected anything less. Of course Tony Stark made sure his teammates had more than adequate accommodations.
“Always early L/n.”
The redhead’s familiar sultry voice grabs your attention, causing you to spin around from the window to look at her.
She’s as gorgeous as she’s ever been. Admittedly the long hair suits her better, still damp from the shower she obviously just took and falling down her bare shoulders. Subconsciously your eyes trail down her tank top and yoga pants covered form.
“Eyes up here.” She further teases and your eyes snap up to hers.
“Sorry it's just- you look good Romanova. Really good.” You say breathily.
The urge to just dive head first back into your charm hits Natasha hard. She’s seen you for all of a day and apart from your physical, you seem to be the same person she was falling for all those years ago. The only people she’s ever fallen for.
In the next few minutes, Natasha makes coffee, telling you to wait in the living room for her. Only to return shortly after to hand you a cup, and ease on to the sofa.
Pulling her legs up to tuck underneath her butt, she faces you as you sit beside her, a noticeable distance between you two.
“How long?” She asks almost cautiously, clarifying when you raise your eyebrows.“ How long have you had your abilities?”
“Three years.”
A heavy sigh leaves her lips. Two years after she left HYDRA took over your organization and turned you into a super soldier. She can’t help but wonder what may have happened if she were still around.
Would you have needed her comfort? Could she have stopped it?
Suddenly a weight lands on her knee, a glance down revealing your hand comfortingly resting there.“ There’s nothing you could’ve done. I wanted the serum, just not for the reasons they gave it to me.”
She silently nods, eyes casting back down to the hand on her leg.
Whether or not she mentions it out loud, she missed your touch, even the ones as simple as this. Something about the way your touch affected her, be it arousing or calming, occasionally featherlight with the intent to cause laughter from the usually stoic woman.
A mental sigh brings the thought to the forefront of her mind. It’s not just your touch, it’s you as a whole. Your energy, your aura, your personality, your smile.
How she’d gone five years without you?
“Can I ask you something?” Your voice pulls Natasha from her thoughts and she looks back up into your soft eyes, hurt hides in them that makes her frown and nod.“ Did you ever consider coming back? Or even contacting me?”
The look that crosses her face is answer enough but she still says,“ more often than you’d think. In the beginning, all I could think about was going back to you and never leaving. I considered finding you just to say goodbye.”
“Talked yourself out of it huh.” It’s a statement not a question. Another nod to how well you read her.“ Figured I was better off without you and the enemies you come with, even if my life was dangerous long before you.”
She shakes her head, chuckling at how easily you saw through her reasoning when she hadn’t even admitted it herself.“ Can I contribute that conclusion to you having mind reading abilities?”
“You can if it’ll make you feel better but it’s not true,” your thumb smooths across her knee in the same way it always had.“ I never had to read your mind.”
Much like she always had when it came to you, Natasha allows herself to take just one more risk. She let you in the first time, hopefully this time would end better or not at all.
Laying her hand over yours, her fingers wrap around your hand,“ I’m really glad to see you again.”

Emerald Eyes: Chapter 5
Chapter 5: (Y/N’s POV)
Word count: 2k
A/N: this honestly was awesome to write, like I'm hoping I got the protectiveness of Clint right, and then change in attitude. Also, I hope you find the same stuff I laughed at for like 20 minutes while writing funny. Other than that Enjoy the Chapter and if you wanna be added to the tag list fill out the form and give me some suggestions and your Vote for our endgame!
Chapter 4 , Chapter 6
Your first week of training with Natasha seemed to be going well, everytime you got pinned, had to tap out or take a break (which was not often, so you had to pretend a few times) she would tease you which started to become something you actually enjoyed, you liked how creative she would get with a few of them. Every so often she would make comments regarding something Steve said about you “not being a regular recruit” and “you’re something special, apparently” is all she would say about it, you were glad that steve didn’t tell her about your enhancements. You hadn’t told anyone yet, not even your -self-appointed -“best friend” Pietro, who you know would understand more than the others at the compound, but you just couldn’t risk anyone knowing especially the person who is in charge of your training at the compound. If Natasha did know or had a suspicion of you, you couldn’t tell from the way she acted around you.
It wasn’t until her friend Clint came back from “personal time” did she start to act different, at first nothing changed she acted as she normally does around you, but after your first meeting with Clint something changed…
“Hi, I’m SWORD Agent (Y/L/N), its great to meet you... Agent Romanoff has told me about you” you greet him with a smile and an outstretched hand, he returns your smile with an indifferent look and refusing your hand “nice to meet you…” he says as his eyes scan you as if he is looking for something, and then he turns to Natasha with a wide smile “soo...Nat how about we head to the team dinner now? I don’t want Thor to get all the good stuff” Natasha turns to you with a surprisingly gentle smile “I’ll see you tomorrow, okay?” you return her smile with one of her own as you back away from the two “yeah, have fun…” you give Clint a small wave goodbye “...nice meeting you, Agent Barton” he doesn’t pay you any mind as him and Natasha walk off down the hallway.
---
You run into him a few times over the next few weeks around the compound after that, but none that stick out to you as much as when you were running around the track outside the compound while Natasha watched and wrote a few things down on her notepad every so often, you had noticed Clint walking up to her and just assumed it was regarding avengers business, but when Clint reached Natasha he just watched you run and would look at the redhead beside him a few times before his stoic expression slowly turned into one of surprise as his jaw dropped, he said something into her ear which made her finally look up at him. You couldn’t tell from where you were, but from the way she grabbed his arm and led him inside through the glass doors, she was either mad or something really bad had happened.
As you got closer to the side of the track they previously occupied you stopped for a sip of your water and watched them through the glass, Natasha seems to be annoyed while Clint just looked up at the ceiling with a huge smile and his arms crossed, Natasha however just shook her head and walked outside back to the track, she saw you and gave you a short smile that didn’t reach her eyes, when she came up to you she motioned for you to go back inside the compound you assumed that this meant training would be more sparing or shooting, but she didn’t move from her spot, you called out to her “you coming?...can’t really continue training without you” she looked up at you with an emotionless expression “you’re done for today, eat and rest and we’ll be back here tomorrow morning” this confused hell out of you, the entire that you’ve been training with Natasha she has not once let you go early if anything she keeps you for longer. You could tell something was up but you didn’t want to intrude so you simply walked back into the compound where you were greeted by Clint who was suddenly cheery to see you “Hellooooo, (Y/N)...I just realized I never asked how you’re liking training with Nat, is she fun? Keeping you on your toes?” this sudden change in mood from the two of them confused you even more.
“I’m finding it nice...she seems to know what she’s doing and she’s highly skilled, it was nice of steve to assign her to me” Clint’s brows furrowed at that last part but his smile didn’t fade “Oh...she told you Steve assigned her to you?...” you nodded because that is exactly what she had told you after your first training session “...big blue told me that she requested to be your partner, hmm I wonder why?-well I better get going have a lovely evening!” he pats your shoulder as he walks past you and down the hall, you stand there for another minute before continuing back to your qu-room -as Pietro kept insisting you call it- and called it a day before heading to the library to relax. You waited for a few hours for the young woman that you would talk with on the other side of the shelf, she had stopped showing up a few weeks prior and so you decided to head back to your room and attempt to get some sleep after the day you had.
Time Skip--3 weeks
After about a month of training with Natasha and getting lessons on “how to live” with Pietro you’ve started to feel comfortable around the compound, Natasha seemed to get back to her normal behaviour after a few weeks since her talk with Clint that had changed his mood about you suddenly, you were even invited to the avenger’s movie night by Pietro, it was a little weird when you first sat down though...
Pietro had asked Natasha if it was okay for him to join your training for the day and she knew he was lonely since his sister’s mission so she allowed for him to join a few exercises, once your session was over he was very quick to stop you when you were heading to leave the room.
He whizzes from his spot across the room to right in front of you as he beginnings “so dude, I was thinking...maybe you wanna join us for movie night?” he gives you desperate eyes that he always uses when he wants something.
You give him a “really?” look because you were pretty sure Natasha would object to this idea, “umm, well...I don’t know man, is the team cool with me crashing?” He nods and calls out to Natasha who is making her way towards you two.
“Is it cool if (Y/N) crashes movie night tonight?”
Natasha’s lips go up into a small smile -that you have been very oblivious to the fact that she only does it when someone says your name- as she responds to Pietro’s inquiry “well I think it would be a great idea, the team wouldn’t mind at all I’m sure”
You give a small smile before answering “I don’t really have a choice, do I P?” Pietro gives you a big grin which is all the answer you need, he was definitely going to bring you to movie night if you agreed or not “nope! Now tell me what do you like to snack on during comedies?” you tell him what your favourite candies are and he says goodbye as he rushes out to grab the snacks for the whole team and now you.
Natasha is already making her way down the hallway when you call out to her “You really had to give him an answer?” she lets a small giggle escape her lips as she continues walking.
---
You get into a few of the new casual clothes that Pietro helped you buy as part of his “how to live” lessons, and make your way to the avenger’s common room, it is much nicer than you imagined and is filled with a lot of comfortable looking furniture, as you enter you are greeted by Pietro of course, who is setting up the snacks on the coffee table in the middle of the room, and then Steve who is grabbing beverages from the fridge in the kitchen, he hands you a beer but you decline.
“I don’t really drink, but thank you” as soon as you say this Clint and Pietro appear next to you. Pietro has a faux look of sympathy and Clint is giving you a look that says “don’t worry we aren’t gonna judge you” as he takes one of the beers from Steve. Pietro presses the drink into your hand and looks you in the eye as he speaks slowly “Lesson. Number. Three, dude...relax a bit” you hesitate at first but reluctantly accept the drink and thank Steve once again. You see Bruce enter with Tony hot on his trail ranting about one of their new inventions “Brucie, I’m telling you this would only take a few- um I’m sorry who are you? who is this?” he says pointing to you.
“Oh um, hi I’m Agent (Y/L/N)-*Pietro elbows you and gives you a LooK* (Y/F/N)-I'm (Y/N) -this was another lesson from the speedster "use your first name more"- Pietro invited me to join you all tonight” you say before taking a sip of beer to calm your nerves, he looks over to Pietro “you keep bringing the agents your shacking up with to movie night and I’ll ban you again” you spit out some of your drink as he says this and proceed to cough while you try to correct him “n-no *cough* we-we are not *wheezes before coughing again* we *clears throat* we are not together sir...I can promise you that, I am-I am very much into women” Pietro is laughing on the floor after falling over while all of this is happening and cursing that he didn’t have a camera. Steve is patting your back to make sure you’re okay and Clint is giving you a cheeky smirk as he walks over towards the TV area.
Once you and Pietro are both recovered from that spectacle, and you say hello to Bruce, and everyone goes and takes their seats, Steve takes an armchair, Tony takes an identical one next to him and Bruce takes the one next to Clint, Pietro goes and sits in front of the coffee table facing directly at the screen, as you look around you notice that one redheaded Russian is missing from the group, you shrug it off and go to sit down on the couch that is behind the coffee table as soon as you get comfortable though the entire team is staring at you with wide eyes and concern...all except for Clint who is looking at you as though he is calculating something in his head.
You look at all of them before you speak up “umm...is something wrong? Did I get beer on my shirt or something?” Bruce opens his mouth to speak before everyone turns their heads to the direction of footsteps coming their way, as you turn your head to look you are greeted by yet again a pair of mesmerizing emerald eyes that don’t connect with yours as they scan the room before landing on you, you wave and give a small smile to the owner of those eyes as she looks like she is contemplating something for a second before shrugging slightly and making her way over to the couch and sits next to you, far enough away that you are both sitting comfortably on the couch.
“Hi” is all you can muster to say in front of her, she gives you another small smile and responds “Hi..." she waits a moment before asking you "...could you pass me a drink please?” you reach over to the coffee table in front of you both and grab her the only beer left on the table, as you hand it to her, her fingers brush yours and you nearly drop the bottle, she lets a small giggle escape as she thanks you and turns to face the tv before adjusting herself to be comfortable in her seat, as you turn to look forward you can see Clint giving you a wink and Pietro looking over at Steve with absolute bewilderment and Steve returning it with a look of his own before he presses play on the movie.

It's all smoke and mirrors for the title meme?
You ever get a title and you're like........... this title is way too good for whatever I'd come up with lmao
It's All Smoke and Mirrors
"I hate these things," Tony mutters darkly, striding through the stone hallway leading to the opulent ballroom where he's meant to meet with other faction leaders.
"Everyone hates these things," Natasha says in his ear. "You're not special."
Tony waves his hand near his ear to try and bat the spider apparently clinging there away. "Cut it out."
"No," the spider says, and he realizes it's her, not one of the spiders simply under her control. He feels a smidge less anxious. "I should be allowed to harass you since I'm here too."
"Fine," Tony sighs, and does not flinch when she shifts her legs over his ear in a way that tickles so that she has a better grip. "Why are you hiding? They'll figure out you're you quickly."
"Tiberius is going to be here this year," Natasha says darkly. "I know he likes touching your ears even when you tell him no. I intend to bite him and inject every ounce of venom I have."
Tony forces himself not to smile, because one can never tell if there are ghosts hovering in the halls. Still, he's amused. "I don't know that that will kill a vampire."
"I don't need it to kill him. I just need it to make him suffer," she replies, and if she had shoulders, she'd shrug.
"Here we go," Tony says as he approaches the doorway, partly to Natasha but mostly to himself.
The room is already mostly-full. It looks like the vampires haven't shown up, but that's because they enjoyed being fashionably late. The werewolves are here, though, and the representatives of the Unseelie Court. Tony lifts his hand to wave at Doom, who gamely waves back before turning back to his underling. There are some mermaids that Tony's never seen before, dripping in their seats, and when he catches their eyes they smile with sharp teeth. He starts peering around for the fairies, hoping to see a familiar face.
"Tony!" Jan squeals and bashes into his face for a hug.
"Ow," Tony says, but lifts his hand up to hold her back.
Jan ignores his pain and instead immediately begins chattering on about all the gossip he's missed because time moves differently for him. She only pauses when she notices Natasha perched delicately on his ear. "...What are you doing?" she asks, raising an eyebrow.
"I'm going to bite Tiberius," Natasha replies.
"Oh! Good. I hate him," Jan replies.
Before she can say anything else, smoke begins billowing from the center of the table, and everyone goes quiet, leaving their mingling to find their seats. Even the vampires who had meant to make an entrance come in and sit down.
"Wonder who it's gonna be this time. I hope it's Steve. He blushes so pretty when the succubae hit on him," Jan whispers. "It's adorable."
"I hope it's Bucky. He somehow even scares the ghouls," Natasha whispers back.
Tony secretly hopes it's Bruce, because Bruce likes him, but he's on the roster for this rarely, because he has no patience and he destroys things when he's angry.
It's Thor. They can't help the murmurs that roll around the table in surprise--Thor rarely shows up to these events. He's the most powerful member of the Table, even if he doesn't always act like it, and whatever happens with humans never affects him.
"Before we can come to agreements, you must clean your own houses," Thor says solemnly. "There is a rottenness in them, beings conspiring with humans to exterminate us. There can be no meeting of council until we know there are no double-agents. This meeting is adjourned."
He disappears as quickly as he'd come in a burst of lightning. Everyone stares at where he was standing, stunned, before they all get up and leave, ostensibly to go interrogate the members of their people. There's a cacophony as everyone flees through their assigned halls or into the pool leading outside. Then there's silence.
Tony stares at the table blankly, then sighs. "This seriously couldn't have just been an email?"
"Tony!" Jan gasps.
"I was fucking busy," Tony snaps back at her. "Natasha, take a note--"
"Noting," Natasha says.
"Threaten everyone for good measure and then send a scroll up to the Table saying our court is sorted. Maybe mention that email exists," he adds sourly.
"You're sure that there's no corruption in your court?" Jan asks in surprise.
Tony scoffs. "Pepper and Happy would simply not allow it."
Jan opens her mouth, then closes it again, conceding. Ever since Obadiah had been ousted, Tony, Pepper, and Happy had been incredibly suspicious of anyone else in court. Tony had relaxed some now, but Pepper and Happy were still vigilant, and both of them more willing to beat people soundly about the head.
"Well, I suppose I should go scare some of my fellow fairies," Jan sighs instead, then leans in to press a kiss to his cheek. "Let's go out for drinks soon, okay?"
"I haven't been--okay," Tony sputters as she zips off.
Natasha waits a moment, then says, "Were you going to tell her you weren't drinking tequila anymore since the last time you guys went out for drinks?"
"I vomited margaritas out my nose," Tony begins, then screams when he notices someone standing behind him and spins around.
"Tony," Thor says solemnly. "We need to see you at the Table."
"Why? It definitely can't be because I suggested the Table run train on me while I was drunk," Tony answers defensively. "I said that in the safety of my realm."
"What," Thor asks, voice cracking.
"Nothing," Natasha cuts in hastily, waving her front legs at him. "Forget you heard anything."
"Did you actually leave in a burst of smoke or was that a fucking sleight of hand," Tony continues. "Doesn't it take effort if it's real magic? What--"
"Can you just--" Thor sighs, then grabs Tony by the scruff to carry him away.
Natasha panics and buries her mandibles in as deep as they can go, injecting all of the venom she'd been saving for Tiberius.
"I knew we should have sent Bruce," Thor sighs, frustrated. "Damnit."

Infinity & Beyond (Wanda Maximoff x Reader) Chapter 4
Summary: This chapter focuses on the journey of the reader during the five years without Wanda.
A/N: Thank you for the likes and reblogs! Hope that you are all enjoying the story.
Chapter 1 | Chapter 2 | Chapter 3
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You wake up a few months later in the Avengers compound once again. This time with your memories intact and feeling unbelievably disappointed. “She found him,” you find yourself saying to whoever was in the room as you involuntarily sit up on the bed. The nurse brushes it off as some weird superhero thing and not something to address. But then you repeat yourself again and again until she alerts Bruce who grabs the attention of the other remaining Avengers.
"What do you think she means?" Natasha questions as you make the statement again.
"Maybe she's talking about Wanda and Vision?" Steve chimes in with a concerned look on his face and his arms crossed over his chest.
"Why would she be talking about Wanda and Vision? Vision was an advanced robot with a stone in his head, he had no soul for Wanda to find. If any of that exists," Bruce points out.
"I don't know then," Steve shrugs. Then you repeat the phrase again. "Maybe it's Wanda and her brother? I don't know, maybe we're too focused on the cloudy eyes thing. We could be thinking about this too hard."
Then Rhodey comes into the room to inform the members that the radar has picked up a signal of an unidentified flying object. He thinks that Carol might be back. "Just say UFO," Natasha rolls her eyes as she follows the guys out of the building. On their way out she spots a worried Pepper Pots and quirks her lips into a reassuring smile. "I think she found him," she says to the woman and leads her to the landing zone of the compound. It's only then that Natasha realizes what you meant. Sure enough, a woman is carrying a ship into the landing zone with Tony Stark and someone named Nebula. Pepper wraps her arms around Tony in tears and relief. He is quickly brought to the medical wing where you remain. Somehow having watched the whole thing from your bed.
When you come out of it the nurse informs you that your eyes had gone cloudy for a moment and you had predicted the return of your father. "He isn't my father," you grouched. Huh, must be another ability, you think to yourself.
Later, after passing a few diagnostic exams with flying colors, you are discharged from your hospital room and are eating across from a very serious Thor as people argue and yell at each other. It was weird to eat actual food. Thor was almost amused watching you figure out how to hold your sandwich.
Tony is then rolled into the room with a furious energy. You can tell that he is really hurting from this loss, that he is frustrated and you can even feel betrayal radiating off of him somehow. Of course, it's not until he's shouting at the Captain that you realize you are feeling his emotions. You were feeling everyone's defeated emotions and it was beginning to suffocate you. As you try to distract yourself with the food, your mind wanders to how overwhelmed Wanda must've felt being able to read people's minds. That leads to the memory of Wanda slipping from you and it's almost too much to handle. You toss the plate in front of you, disrupting the ongoing argument. You’re squeezing your skull as the tears come and you scream for it all to stop. Natasha and Steve fall to your side as they do their best to calm you down. Once the memory leaves you and you've settled, everyone in the room gets serious about finding Thanos.
Nebula is useful as she provides the only lead to finding Thanos and you join them on the spaceship, brushing off everyone's concerns. The talking racoon asks how many of you haven’t been to space before, you raise your hand among the others which seems to be enough to make him laugh. You don't understand why until the ship rushes off to space.
Arriving just outside the planet, a floating woman you hadn't been introduced to yet appears at the front window and is surprised to report that the planet is just Thanos. Along with everyone else, you are heart broken to find out that he had destroyed the stones. You feel for Thor when he says he went for the head and shed another tear for the woman that Thanos had taken from you. It feels like you just lost her all over again.
The first year is the longest. The days feel never ending and drag on. Most nights were spent jolting out of bed in a cold sweat as you're being haunted by memories. It often felt like you were back in the hands of Hydra being electrocuted and injected, spoken to in a language you didn't know, probably German. Everything that was done to you in the time you were captured, everything that your mind had originally suppressed, was attacking you each night. Going through it alone made you miss Wanda even more. So once you could remind yourself that you were safe, you had also been reminded that you were alone. Lots of tears were shed in the night.
After Tony built up enough strength to leave the compound he did but he never stayed gone long. He would return often to attempt to build a relationship with you. It wasn’t easy trying to let him in, the lack of sleep being no help, so you didn’t. Your resistance never stopped him from making the effort to get to know you. Now that he knew you existed, he wanted to be part of your life. Tony knew that you needed family and he was all you had left, even if you didn't want to accept it. He promised to never abandon you ever again.
That didn’t mean he stopped living his life. Within a few months of his recovery, Tony invited you to his surprisingly low-key wedding which you begrudgingly attended with Natasha and Steve. They had been helping you out a lot with coping and figuring out whether or not you wanted Tony in your life. Steve often joked about fighting him again to get him to back off, but you never took the offer. You did your best to enjoy yourself at the wedding but it only reminded you of what you couldn’t have.
You smiled your way through the night as you thought about Wanda.
Her smile, the dress she would’ve worn, her laugh, that look in her eyes that is so full of love and only reserved for you. Your mind went even further back to a time when Pietro was alive and how they would’ve danced together and how happy he would have been for the two of you. You even imagine the wide grin he would have walking Wanda down the aisle and the single tear he would shed. Once he found that ring of yours he was constantly harassing you about when and how you were going to ask his twin. Even giving unwanted advice and ideas. It was all so consuming. That night you fell asleep crying in Natasha’s arms.
Months later, while Tony was visiting you he included you in on a secret. Pepper was pregnant. You didn’t exactly give the most joyous reaction but you were happy for him and Pepper. “When she’s born, promise me you won’t come back here,” you find yourself saying.
“Well I don’t know if she’s a girl yet but… why don’t you want me to come around here?” Tony asks as he returns the ultrasound image to his pocket.
“I want the three of you to be happy. I don’t want you to worry about me. Besides, I’m thinking of asking Nat to start assigning me to missions. I probably won’t be around as much and I really just need to get my mind off of the things I lost and the things I can’t have.” You keep your eyes on the promise ring Wanda had given you on your first anniversary. “But I want you and Pepper to be happy. Enjoy your life Tony. You don’t need to make things right with me to do that.” Tony disagrees but hugs you as he says his goodbyes and you find Natasha for your first assignment.
You are there for the birth of Morgan Stark. You forge her a special necklace from your powers and smile at the little bundle of joy. “Congrats you guys, she is so precious,” you say as you hold the baby.
“Thank you, Y/N,” Pepper says with hooded eyes and a tired smile. You hand the baby back to Tony and leave before thoughts of Wanda could invade and cloud your head. She always wanted a family. She used to fantasize about the kinds of parents the two of you would be. The types of kids you guys would raise. Baby names… Being away allowed you to forget her. But moments like these threatened to tear you down.
More years pass and Natasha is forced to ground you from missions because you have become too mentally unstable and a major liability. Steve drags you to his group therapy sessions but you hardly pay attention or contribute. You just miss Wanda and you allow yourself to feel that pain because running from it has only made it grow. For the most part you spent your time sitting in meetings with Steve or Nat. You preferred being in Natasha’s meetings since they were about mission updates and strategy and not about people crying over first dates. Shortly after that particular meeting Steve began to hint that maybe you should give it a try, you shut him down and turned it around on him. He quickly dropped the subject.
Among that daily schedule you would end your nights curled up on your bed in the room Wanda stayed in while she was waiting for you to come back to her. You would hold some clothes that still smelled like her to your nose as you listened to sad songs. For a while you’re stuck listening to Little Talks wondering if her spirit was lying by your side trying to reach out to you. Some of the things you felt were too painful to keep around and you had them stored at a special place far enough from here. One of them being the old computer. Well, they had been stored away for you but sometimes you convinced yourself that you made the call on your own. Not that Natasha arranged a team to steal most of your belongings.
Tony was generous enough to copy every video and photo file from the computer and put them into your phone. They helped you go to sleep at night.
Then one day, a man you swore had to have been on the vanished list that Nat viewed often, appears at the gate. “Is this old?” Steve asks.
“This is live,” Natasha says. They let him in and the three of you stand around as he explains how he can help. You, Nat, and Steve are skeptical but not so much that you guys don’t have hope it won’t work. Immediately you guys are on the road to find Tony Stark.
Over the years you tried to visit between missions, when you could. Not for Tony but for Morgan. You couldn’t help but fall for the little girl, she was your sister and you wanted to be the best big sister you could be for her. You also wanted to make sure she knew how many people cared for her and that she would always be safe and protected. Natasha was also captivated by her and would sometimes join you on the visits. You girls would play once she was able to run around and you even showed her some of your powers. During this time you finally allowed Tony in and even established a healthy relationship with him and Pepper because whether or not you wanted to accept it, they were your family.
When you arrive at the cabin, Morgan jumps out of Tony’s arms and runs into yours. “Y/N/N!” She shouts happily. You greet her with just as much energy and take her into the house to let them do the talking.
Pepper prepares some drinks and has you take them out to everyone. You re-enter the kitchen to help her with lunch. “Why aren’t you out there with the rest of them?” Pepper asks conversationally.
“Because my powers are connected to my emotions and if your husband says no… I might accidentally blow him into bits and pieces,” you sigh.
Despite herself, Pepper laughs a little. “You know,” she starts. “If you called him dad, he won’t have any other choice than to say yes.”
You shake your head, not this again. “Not going to happen.” Tony hasn’t directly asked you to say it but Pepper has and she keeps bringing up how much it would mean to him to hear you say it. “Besides with what we’re trying to do there’s a chance that he might lose all of this. I’m not even sure if I want him to say yes.” Your gaze lands on Morgan playing with her toys. Pepper follows your gaze and smiles softly.
“Hey Morgan, sweetie?” Pepper calls attention to her daughter who curiously looks up at her mother. “You should go out there and rescue daddy,” Pepper says. The little girl's face lights up as she stands to run to the front door. “Knowing Tony, he will find a way to protect everything he loves and save the world. Even if it kills him,” there is something in the way she says those words that causes the two of you to share a look. A hopeful let’s hope it doesn’t come down to that.
She then gives you a hug and tells you to stop by more often, she wishes you luck, and you leave the warmth of the home to the frowns of your rejected friends. You don’t look at Tony when you bid him goodbye.
Next you find yourself in Bruce’s diner and watch as Scott Lang fails to be recognized as Ant-Man by some kids. Bruce is willing to give the time travel a try and on the day the test run is done, you begin to lose hope again. You eat your taco near a window as you observe Scott set up in the landing zone. You laugh when Nebula and Rocket arrive blowing away his food. You almost can’t believe that is the guy who had access to the closest thing they had to a time machine. Steve walks in smiling at your laugh, you don’t do that often, with Tony barking orders behind him. People get to work on the machine and that pesky flicker of hope is restored.
As you work on things Tony is by your side teaching you about every part you are using and putting together. You just let him rattle on and on as you let yourself fantasize about holding Wanda in your arms again. Before you know it they are doing the first test run with Clint Barton. He disappears and instantly reappears with a baseball glove and a stunned expression. “It works,” he says and that feeling of hope causes your heart to pound in your chest. You are going to see her again. Now to find out when to travel to.
“See you in a minute,” Nat says with contained excitement. She is just as excited to complete this mission as you are. After a lot of thinking and planning they separated into three teams of people. Tony, Steve, Bruce, and Scott leave to 2012 to retrieve the tesseract, scepter, and the time stone. Nat, Clint, Nebula, and Rhodey vanish to 2014 to grab the power stone and the soul stone. The last team is just Thor and Rocket to grab the reality stone that is apparently inside of Thor’s former girlfriend. Tony, Steve, and Nat wouldn’t let you go on the mission because they still think you’re a liability. You argue that Thor isn’t exactly the picture of mental stability but they point out that Thor is the only one on their team that knows Asgard and where that stone is.
So you sit and pout in a chair for the quick minute that everyone is gone. Part of what has you so pissed off is that you didn’t get to experience time traveling. All because of a few bad missions. You watch them disappear and stare at the platform but time seems to drag on and you look down at your phone with a sigh. In that second everyone has returned with their stones and your heart drops. You notice one person missing and frown. “Where’s Nat?” You ask. Clint wears a broken expression and takes a breath before explaining how he received the stone. “Oh,” is all you can come up with.
Clint felt that it should’ve been him and you didn’t disagree but you understood why Natasha sacrificed herself. She confided in you a few times about how she felt like a monster because of what she was forced to do when she was being raised in the Red Room. She even talked about the mandatory hysterectomy and hated that she could never carry kids of her own. You did your best to try and cheer her up by telling her that adoption was always an option. “No agency is going to allow a former assassin to adopt a kid. Trust me… I tried.” She then boasted about Clint and his family, she loved them as if they were her own family. “I’ll deny it if you tell anyone but I cried like a baby the first time his daughter called me aunty Nat,” she got teary eyed and you passed her another shot of vodka.
Natasha missed them so much and you knew she would sacrifice herself to get them back. She wouldn’t have been able to live with herself if his family came back and she had to inform them that he died to save her. She probably would have felt like a bigger monster than she already thought she was. You stood up and left the room to collect yourself and get as far away from everyone’s grief as possible. Natasha had easily become your best friend these past few years. In the past year that you’ve been stuck at the compound there were days when it felt like all you had was each other. You can’t believe she’s gone but you have to hope that there is still a way to bring her back.
Banner finds you later and makes you some food and Rocket sits with you and the rest of the guys sit by the dock to talk. You force the comfort food down despite feeling too sad to eat and notice Nebula walking back into the time machine area. They call you into another room where they’re going to put the stones together but you ignore them and follow Nebula. They let you go, assuming that you’re still upset about losing Natasha. The first time you went on an actual mission with Nebula, you were put off with how serious she was so you came up with random nicknames to call her. She was annoyed initially but eventually she mentioned how funny she thought it was. Her tone had remained emotionless as she told you that and you had to refrain from laughing because it felt rude to do so as she was opening up. Nebula was still a very serious person to be around but she loosened up a bit around you, even called you her friend.
“Hey Neb-Neb!” You called out after her but she ignored you. “Bu-Bu! Hello?” You followed her to the control panel, “Nella, what’s going on with yo–” she cuts you off by wrapping her hand around your throat and speaking to you through gritted teeth. There was definitely something off about Nebula but you couldn’t quite figure it out. So you fought back because you weren’t fighting your friend, you were fighting a stranger. The two of you go hand in hand until she slips out of your hold and goes back to the control panel. You move to stop her but are too late. Next thing you know, you are waking up in rubble.
With a groan you sit up and dust yourself off then quickly panic, you don’t even know if they had time to do the reverse snap. You crawl your way out of the rubble and find Steve, Tony, and Thor speaking in hushed tones. “Did you guys do the snap? What happened?” You ask frantically, you need to know that you’ll be seeing Wanda again. Losing her a third time was simply not an option. Then you see a very alive Thanos just sitting there. That’s when it connects in your head. It was a different Nebula and she was getting a past version of Thanos into this present. “Please tell me you guys did the snap,” you look at Tony and he nods. But the look on everyone's faces told you that they didn’t know if it worked.
You join them as they attack Thanos but he is powerful and not easy to bring down. You’re tossed into another pile of rubble and shake your head, annoyed with yourself because you felt useless. Your powers were failing you and you couldn’t fathom as to why. Out of nowhere you see portals open up one by one, the people that had vanished and the people that hadn’t stepped through each portal. Then an enormous Ant-Man emerges from the ground and drops off a few more people that must’ve been trapped from the destruction of the compound. You gather with the rest of them and really focus to activate your powers as Steve grabs Mjolnir and shouts, “Avengers… Assemble!” Despite the unsuccessful attempt, you still charge along with the rest of them to fight against Thanos’ army.
Without seeing her, you could just sense that Wanda is among the rest and as much as you want a reunion, saving the world takes precedence at the moment. You could practically hear her telling you to go be a hero anyway. As you fight against Thanos’ army, using the hand to hand combat skills Natasha and Steve taught you, a part of you is still distracted and searches for Wanda. Regardless of where you want your focus at the moment. You make your way around the battlefield hoping to knock into her or something so that you don't get yourself killed trying to find her. Then you hear her.
“You took everything from me,” her tone is heavy and her eyes are glowing. You come to the conclusion that she must not know whether or not you are alive. So you don’t let her know and wait to find out what she does.
“I don’t even know who you are,” Thanos responds, angered by the woman's threatening glare.
“You will,” she says before she starts attacking him with her powers. Discreetly killing off a large gathering of Outriders hurtling towards you, you watch Wanda as she comes very close to killing Thanos herself. He calls for the ships to rain fire on everyone and that’s when you finally make yourself present to her. You jump from your spot and land right beside her and create a force field to protect the both of you. Other members are being protected by the sorcerers and it isn’t until Captain Marvel comes flying through that the bullets stop coming down and people are trying to get the gauntlet out of there. You turn towards Wanda and feel her mixed emotions, you wink at her with a smile as you let the barrier go.
“It’s time to be a hero right now, love. We can say hello later,” you tell her before you go back into the fight, the adrenaline rushing through you as your powers have finally activated. Each member does their best to keep the gauntlet out of Thanos’ reach but sadly no one succeeds and he holds the extreme amount of power once again. Carol fights him with as much power as she has to keep him from snapping his fingers but eventually gets tossed aside. You step up next using everything that you have inside of you, using abilities you had no idea you even possessed. But in the end you are tossed onto a metal rod that had been protruding out from the destroyed building. It had stabbed you through your side making it difficult to breathe. As you fight for air you look around to watch Thanos and his army disappear. Tony collapses beside you. “No,” you cough out weakly. You reach out for him and luckily he was close enough for you to touch his shoulder. “Tony,” you gasp as the tears sting your eyes. His eyes follow the sound but you can tell that he’s not actually looking at you.
“Mr. Stark, we won. Mr. Stark,” Peter says as he tries to grab Tony’s attention. Rhodey lands beside his best friend with understanding and sadness in his eyes. Yours tighten shut for a moment as your tears start to fall. You want to wake up from this horrible nightmare but this is reality, a piece of you knew that you couldn’t avoid. Then Pepper arrives and pulls the boy in the spider suit away from her husband. You look up and see that he has finally returned somewhat enough to recognize his wife.
She tells him that he can rest now, then she looks over to you so that you know that now is the time to say something so you don’t regret it later. With a weak grip on his shoulder you nudge him to return his attention to you. It looks like he’s trying to smile at you but is obviously far too weak to do as such. You offer him the best one that you could muster in your current state. “I love you, dad. It’s okay, we’ll be okay,” your hand lands in his and he gives it the lightest squeeze before it falls limp.
Wanda makes her way over to you and panics at the amount of blood you’ve lost but at the moment you don’t feel anything. Not even the pain of losing your father. You just feel… numb. It dawns on you that your body must be failing but that doesn’t scare you. She takes your hand as your loud thoughts of just letting go enter her mind. “No,” she starts through frustrated teeth. “You can’t leave, Y/N. Please, keep fighting. This can’t be our ending. I need you, please don’t leave me,” she sounds so broken but equally determined to keep you alive. As you hold her gaze she lets out a broken sob and tenderly whispers, “I love you to infinity.” She continues to beg, depositing small kisses to the back of your hand. As her words sink in, you find the strength that you need to fight off the thoughts of letting go. Then, with your heightened vision, you look around and find every remaining Avenger kneeling out of respect for your father and you have the urge to join them. You struggle to get up from your position, Pepper and Wanda try to stop you from moving but all rational thought has left you.
“I’m not dying right here,” you grumble as you reach behind you and cut the rod. You shift your position and Pepper sprays your wound to close it around the remaining bits of the rod that was still in you so that the bleeding would stop until you could get it properly treated. Then you kneel for your father to show your respect for him in his death that you failed to show while he was alive. You think about how grateful you were for the last five years and how much you appreciated that he never gave up on you. You silently thank him just as the adrenaline leaves your body and it succumbs to the full extent of your injuries causing you to collapse and pass out.
warnings: ANGST, character death
You had to admit, it was a good idea, or at least the best one you’ve had in 5 years. Go back in time, retrieve the stones, bring them back to the present, heal the world. You’re surprised someone hadn’t come up with it sooner and you silently thank the universe for Scott Lang. Who knows if anyone would have thought of this, even with the amount of intelligence many of your fellow Avengers had.
You looked around at your friends, all adorned in new white and red suits and standing in a circle on the newly built platform in the compound. Everyone had their assignments - you and Steve would be sent to Vormir to retrieve the soul stone. You chuckle as you think about it again because of all the people to be sent to a completely different planet, they chose you. You were nervous but fine with it, as long as Steve was with you.
As you come back from getting lost in your thoughts, you hear Steve giving one of his infamous hero pep talks. You glance up and meet Steve’s gaze. He finishes his sentence and gives you a smile, almost as if he sensed the nervousness within you. And he probably did - he knew you too well. You had been dating for the past 3 years, after all.
“See you in a minute,” you hear from Natasha, who stands next to you. The platform whirrs to life and you glance around at your friends one last time before being thrust into time.
“Well this place is ominous.”
Steve lets out a small laugh in agreement and joins you where you stand. Vormir was certainly no paradise. The black cliffs against the dark, cloudy sky seemed to taunt you. You shudder, not wanting to know what secrets lay beneath them. You glance over at Steve, who is already looking at you.
“Whatever it takes,” you say.
“Whatever it takes,” he echos.
You take a breath and turn to face the cliff before you but before you can move, a cloaked figure stops you in your tracks.
“Steve, son of Sarah,” he says, following that up with your and your father’s name.
You and Steve quickly react, Steve retrieving his shield from his back and you, pulling a gun from its holster on your hip.
“You know us?” Steve questions.
“It is my curse to know all who venture here.”
You give each other a quick look when the cloaked entity moves into the light, revealing its face. By the gasp that comes out of Steve’s mouth and the hushed words that follow, you know he’s seen this person, or ghost, before. You bring your weapon down to your side and place a hand on his shoulder. Without removing his gaze from the person, he softly whispers, “Red Skull.”
You get it now. You’ve heard stories of the infamous Red Skull from both Steve and Bucky. You wonder how the former head of HYDRA ended up as a ghost on a far away, foreign planet but decide that’s a question best answered another day.
Before you can think on it further, the Red Skull continues, “Consider me a guide. To you and all who seek the stone.”
“Great,” you say, moving your gun to aim at him once again. “So you can tell us where it is, and we’ll be on our way.”
The figure turns and floats to the edge of the cliff before you, gesturing to whatever lies on the other side. You and Steve follow, finding nothing but a far drop to the barren land below. Something about this didn’t feel right and your instincts were proven true by the ghost’s next words.
“In order to take the stone, you must lose that which you love. A soul for a soul.”
Suddenly, this mission didn’t feel like such a good idea anymore. You step back from the cliff and let out a sigh. How could this have happened? Of all the people to send here, why did it have to be and the person you loved most? You turn angrily on your heel and find Steve still glancing over the cliff. That’s enough to tell you, there’s no way out. You needed the stone, and one of you would be going back alone.
“Steve…” you start, “We have to get that stone.”
“Yeah,” he responds timidly, stepping away from the fall and joining you.
“We both know who needs to do this,” you say softly, tears already forming in your eyes.
He nods, tears adorning his own face now, “I guess we do.”
You needed to do this. As one of the only Avengers without a special power or suit, you weren’t good for much else other than being backup. You were a good fighter but the team needed Steve in order to complete this mission. You had no family, no other friends, nothing to keep you around except for Steve.
Steve, however, had made up his mind, too. He would be the one to go. He had lived a long life. Hell, he had lived a few lives over. You were special. You kept the team together with your humor and your kindness. If his death meant he could save you and millions of others? Well, he could live with that.
After a moment of silence, he steps up to you, his hands finding the sides of your face. You gaze up at him and find a pained expression on his face and tears freely flowing down his face. When he speaks, his voice comes out soft, barely audible.
“I love you.”
“I love you too but-”
“No, doll, listen to me. You’ve given me so much more than I ever thought I deserved. I didn’t know if I could love again, but you make it so easy. You have to promise me you’ll move on-”
“Absolutely not Steve,” your words cutting him off. You had never seen Steve so vulnerable and you were sure he could say the same for you. You silently cursed the universe for putting you in this position before continuing, “You’ve done the same for me. You need to go back. You’re better than me, they need you. The world needs you.”
He sighs and places his forehead on yours before closing the gap between you with a soft kiss. You close your eyes and relish it, knowing this is the last time you’ll ever experience this. You wrap your arms around his neck and pull him in closer. But before you know it, the moment is over, and he’s pulling away. You take a few seconds to open your eyes, not wanting to see the personal hell that surrounds you but you realize your mistake when you hear Steve stepping away from you.
You open your eyes and see Steve briskly walking toward the cliff. You grumble under your breath and run over to him. You take him by surprise and quickly kick him behind his knee, causing him to fall. You know that kick was like a playful hit to him, so you take your chance and run ahead of him while he’s down.
He’s quicker than you and you find yourself cursing the universe again, this time for the super soldier serum that runs through your boyfriend’s veins. Before you can reach the edge, he grabs your arm and throws you behind him. You hit the ground with a painful thud and take a second to catch your breath before standing again. That’s when you notice that Steve isn’t standing where he was when he threw you. Instead, he’s standing on the edge of the cliff, his feet teetering over the edge.
Tears once again flowing down your face, you reach him right as he jumps. But you’re smart and have a plan. You jump with him, maneuver the grappling hook off your belt, attach it to him and deploy it all within seconds. You’re rather impressed with yourself for saving him until you realize the position you’re now in. Steve’s attached to the cliff above you and holding on to your hand for dear life. The look on his face is one of pure terror. He knows if he let’s go, he loses you forever.
You look up at him with a soft smile, tears cascading down your cheeks again.
“I love you,” you say. “It’s okay. I’ll be with you.”
You say it again as he desperately pleads with you to think about this.
You say it again as you swing into the cliffs.
You say it again as you push yourself off the wall of rock with enough force to break the hold he has on your hand.
You say it one final time as you fall.
______________________
Steve’s eyes open and he sits up. He’s dazed and his mind feels foggy, he doesn’t know how he got here. He knows he’s sitting in a pool of water and he feels something warm in his palm. He brings his hand out of the pool beneath him and opens it to find a yellow stone - the soul stone.
Immediately he remembers.
He remembers how determined you were to keep him alive.
He remembers the look on your face as he held you, dangling above the void.
He remembers the pained scream he let out as you forced him to let go.
He will always remember.
And he will make sure your sacrifice is not in vain, whatever it takes.
The Avengers Bicycle Race
Summary: Bicycle race between the Avengers. Who would win?
Warnings: none
Word count: 651
Author's note: Feel free to check out my Masterlists and make requests. No reposting please! Reblogging, comments and requests are always appreciated <3 If you like the story/my writing, please don't be shy to say it via comments or asks! It takes you a few seconds and might make my day. It's the best appreciation you can show to a writer you like.
----------
It all started off with Steve discovering how greatly the bicycles had improved over the last decades and wanting to try it out. Unfortunately despite the stunning development the bicycles had made, they still stood no chance against THE Captain America.
So Steve dared Tony to build him a bike that the former could actually use to his delight. Of course Tony could not decline the challenge and had quickly built one.
In the meantime Steve had declared how he was gonna be the fastest cyclist in the world soon, leading Sam to tease him. “Oh, of course. Do I have to remind you that you didn't even manage to drive two miles last time?”
“You think you can do it better?”, Steve had shot back.
“That's not even a challenge”, Sam had proclaimed.
“You won't truly win, Steve … because your victory will be on me”, Tony had reminded him.
“If you're so smart, then why don't you build yourself a bike to beat me yourself?”, Steve had suggested.
This led Tony to build several bikes strong enough to withstand the powers of the Avengers. Of course he had adjusted his specifically to ensure it would drive faster without wasting his own energy. He was Iron Man after all.
Getting Thor to chime in was not difficult. As if he would let himself being ridiculed by some mere humans.
Bruce on the other hand was a different story. But some teasing from Tony's side helped to get out the Hulk who was eager to join the race.
Nobody got Natasha to join who was not willing to participate in their little game of pride as she 'didn't need to prove anything'.
Wanda was over-watching the whole race hoping that she would be able to prevent any serious injuries with her powers. Because when did anything the Avengers did end without any issues?
Vision had been assigned to be the referee. All the Avengers had agreed that they stood no chance against Vision anyway due to his powers.
So when the day of the race finally arrived everyone was determined to win.
“Who do you think will win?”, Wanda wondered.
“Nah … kinda hard to tell but I do have my bet”, Natasha stated with a confident grin.
“Seriously?”, Wanda questioned when Nat told her.
In the meantime the race had started.
At some point the Hulk was so annoyed by the insects crashing into his face that he did not care about the race anymore and destroyed his whole bike in an outburst of rage pulling Sam down with him in the process.
Thor used his lightening to boost the bike which quickly catapulted him to the first place but made his bike give up after some time.
Tony was hit by Thor's bike leading him to fall over but luckily Wanda managed to catch him with her powers.
So naturally Steve had to win, right? Actually he did not because everyone had forgotten about Clint who had connected an arrow to the back of Steve's bike.
Right before the finish line Clint pulled on the rope. Hence Steve's tempo decreased and Clint got a quick boost that catapulted him over the finish line making him win.
“Told you so”, Nat noted casually.
Wanda shook her head with a chuckle and started cleaning this whole mess of broken bicycle parts up.
“That's not fair! You used special tools to win”, Tony accused Clint.
“Seems like my power is the best. You all used yours. So you honestly can't complain”, Clint shot back.
“Knew you would rock it”, Natasha complimented him and playfully hit her best friends shoulder.
“Looks like Captain America isn't that almighty after all. Losing against a mere human”, Sam mocked him and gave Clint a high-five.
The teasing did not stop for a long time.
Making the Team
Based on this request: “The reader is the daughter of natasha and steve, and she is nervous about for her first mission. Her mom and dad tell her that everything is gonna be great, and the mission is complete, but the reader is badly injured and her parents and Bruce takes care of her.”
masterlist
You’re awake when the first light of dawn tentatively begins to shine through your window. You’ve been awake for a while, actually, too excited to sleep a wink. This is the day of a very important mission. It’s probably going to be the most important mission of your life, in fact. If you do well on this assignment, you’ll be made an Avenger. If you don’t, you’ll have to get sent back to training and know that your entire future might have just slipped between your fingers.
Most teenagers your age would never have gotten this opportunity. If they were lucky, they might be accepted to the S.H.I.E.L.D. academy or embark on an internship with Tony Stark. You, however, happen to have two Avengers as your parents. Steve Rogers and Natasha Romanoff, the classic Avengers couple. After much wheedling and careful manipulation on your end, they’ve allowed you to begin training as a potential Avengers recruit. Now, all you have to do to cement your place on the team is to prove yourself in this mission.
It’s not like you’re getting into this team solely based on nepotism, though. Your father was a super soldier and your mother was trained in the Red Room. Ever since you were old enough to walk, it was evident that you would be destined for the same path as they so famously trod. You ran faster, knew more, threw punches harder than anyone else your age. Even without your parentage, S.H.I.E.L.D. would have tapped you long ago. You just get to bypass the protocols and go straight to a potential slot on the team.
Eventually, you can lie in bed no longer, your adrenaline already pumping through your veins at the mere thought of the upcoming mission. You sling your legs over the side of the bed, jumping down onto the floor and rushing over to don your awaiting clothes. Your real suit is waiting in a quinjet at Avengers Tower, so all you have to do is pull on some casual clothes and rush your parents out the door.
They’re already up, as it turns out. Your mother is nursing a cup of coffee, and your father is standing over the stove, brow furrowed as he considers a pan of scrambled eggs. Natasha smiles when she sees you. “Look at you! Ready for the big day?” You nod excitedly, starting to grab the beginnings of a breakfast. “Couldn’t sleep a wink.” Steve chuckles. “I’m starting to think you’re excited about running headlong into danger.” You stare at him pointedly. “I wonder who I learned that from.” Natasha laughs at Steve’s expression. “She’s got you there.”
By the time you’re pulling up to the Avengers Tower, however, the excitement bubbling into your chest is deepening into nervous worry. What if something goes wrong? You’ve never been allowed on a mission as large as this one before, where civilians and the other Avengers alike are counting on you. What if you mess this up? The stakes are higher than you’ve cared to realize- not just a spot on the Avengers, but the lives of those you care about. You head over to the quinjet, but your fears only grow when the plane takes off.
You force yourself to calm down, heading over to the racks of weapons and gear in the hopes of distracting yourself. There at last is your suit- a flexible, bulletproof black jumpsuit with armored paneling overtop. You glance at your reflection in the mirror, but instead of seeing the usual confident version of yourself, you only see a nervous teenager. Why have you been allowed on this mission in the first place? What if this really isn’t what you were meant to do?
You hear footsteps behind you and turn hurriedly, doing your best to wash away your worries and plaster on an expression of relaxed calm. Your mother, however, has been reading people her entire life, and nothing can get past her. Especially not the worries of her daughter. She frowns at you, pausing at the doorway and heading inside. “Hey, you alright?” You sigh, staring at your palms. “What if you guys were wrong about me? What if I’m not supposed to be an Avenger after all?”
Natasha shakes her head. “We’re not wrong about you. That’s a promise. Y/N, I’ve seen you since you were little. You can do things that most soldiers couldn’t even dream of. If Steve or I thought that you couldn’t do this, we wouldn’t have suggested you take the mission.” You look at her anxiously. “But Steve is a super soldier. You’re a Black Widow. I am none of those.” There’s another voice from the door now, and you turn to see your father leaning against the doorframe.
“You don’t have to have that experience to be special. What about Maria Hill? You’ve seen her before. Even Thor’s afraid to take her on, and she doesn’t have any special abilities.” Steve walks into the room, smiling comfortingly. “No, Y/N, you are more than capable, even without training or a strengthening concoction. Honestly, if I was out in the field and I came toe to toe with you, I’d be worried.” A laugh rises unbidden to your lips. “You just have to say that because you guys are my parents.”
Natasha shakes her head, a small grin crossing her face. “Actually, us being your parents means that we wouldn’t usually say that at all. We made sure that you were given the best training and preparation, and that you had equal treatment with the other recruits. You didn’t make it this far because of us, you made it this far because of you. And, if that isn’t enough to convince you, check out your file. We didn’t write that, your instructors did, and your instructors gave you the highest marks we’ve seen in years.”
You smile grudgingly. “You’re sure I can do this?” Steve nods, reaching out to pull you close in a hug. “I know you can do this. You’re an excellent fighter, Y/N, and after today, you’ll be an Avenger. Just like that.” You laugh, returning the hug. “Just like that.”
This, however, is easier said than done. S.H.I.E.L.D. and Avenger training have done a lot for you- teaching you how to fight, readying you for battle. Nevertheless, no amount of simulations can prepare you for the mission at hand. There are hostages inside a building, dozens of guards and soldiers waiting outside. The hostages aren’t the only things to contend with, though- there are civilians, goons, and the knowledge that S.H.I.E.L.D. plans are hidden in the coat pocket of one of the hostages. At any moment, the guards could find out, and then the mission would be over before it even started. You have to rescue the hostages before the data is uncovered.
Your group fans out, looking for entrances. You spot one quickly, rushing to it. There’s an opening on the roof, and you jump from window to window, quickly scaling the building. There, you’re able to take out a couple of snipers and a few roof guards before heading inside the building through a service entrance at the top. The fighting gives you a rush, and you find yourself smiling as you take down yet another soldier. Maybe you were meant for this after all.
At last, you find the room with the hostages. You draw back, waiting around the corner out of enemy view. You tap on your earpiece, speaking hurriedly. “I’ve found the hostages. Second floor, far east side, about a dozen or so guards.” Steve’s voice crackles across the radio. “We hear you. Do not engage, wait for us.” You nod. “Affirmative. Waiting for you.”
Steve and Natasha, however, take their time getting to you. The soldiers must realize that someone’s found a way in, as they’re doubling up around the entrances. You stare at the room with the hostages, watching with bated breath as the leader of the goons circles the captive men and women. The man frowns, pausing by a woman in blue. She has a gold circle pinned to her chest, designating her as the leader. The man stares at the pin, then at her. You can almost see the pieces clicking into place in his head.
You curse softly as you realize what he’s about to do, and switch your radio back on. “The leader has figured out that someone has the plans. I think I have to go in.” Natasha’s voice is sharp over the comms. “Negative! Y/N, do not engage.” As you watch, the man draws closer, flipping open the woman’s jacket with the tip of his rifle. Even from here, you can see the hidden pocket, and even from here, you can see the man’s eyes light up as he spots the rectangular package tucked away inside.
Your hand rises to your earpiece once more. “Sorry, but I have to do this.” You flick your radio off, drowning out the frantic voices of your parents. You race over to the room, kicking down the door with your boot. The guards turn to you when the door crashes open, but you fire your weapons methodically, taking down the guards one by one as you race around the room to the woman. The leader is standing back up, shouting orders at his troops, but you’re not paying attention.
Then his rifle is raised again, pointing towards the woman with the plans. You feel your feet moving without a second’s hesitation, pounding towards the pair. You manage to shove the woman aside just before the man’s finger tightens on the trigger, and you can feel her slip you the plans even as the bullet impacts on your side. For a second, you don’t feel anything at all, and manage to turn your weapons towards the leader, knocking him to the ground. Then your hand comes up from your side, stained red as blood begins to pour onto the ground, and the pain truly hits.
It’s the worst pain you’ve ever felt in your life. You’ve seen Thor wield his thunder before, seen him raise his hammer and watched as a boom of thunder cracked the sky. Lightning arced down to the ground before him, burning the ground and decimating his opponents. You’ve wondered what that would feel like, and now you have a fairly good idea. Maybe you’re not being electrocuted, but you feel like you’ve just been hit by the blow of a god.
There is shouting above you, more shouts ringing out. You stand up unsteadily, hand clamped to your side, and realize that Steve and Natasha have finally found you. They take down the guards with an almost frightening certainty, and then they see you. Just like that, their calm and cool exteriors break away and they run to your side. Steve visibly pales when he sees the blood pooling out from your side. “Y/N!” He shouts, and you weakly hold up the plans. “It’s alright, I got them. They’re safe.”
Steve shakes his head, and he’s saying something else but you can’t quite make it out. You think you hear your name, then Natasha’s, but for some reason you can’t focus on his words. Then the room tilts dizzyingly, and then you can feel nothing at all except for the overwhelming pain in your side and a sickening worry that your parents will never be able to forgive themselves if you die on this mission.
When your eyes open at last, you’re in a bleached white room. A smiling face swims before you; after a second you recognize it as Dr. Banner. His smile widens when he sees you sit up. “Hey, easy there. You took a pretty big hit.” You groan, feeling pain starting to blossom again from your side. It’s not as bad as it was in the room with the hostages, but it isn’t a picnic either. You rub your face with your hand, still disoriented. “What happened?”
Bruce chuckles. “You took a bullet for Ruth Hanaway.” At your confused expression, he clarifies. “The woman with the plans. You know, with the rest of the hostages. She’s fairly important, too. Apparently a higher-up among the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, and she’s very impressed with what you did. She said you didn’t hesitate at all, just dove to save her. Now, that’s Avenger material.” You frown up at him, remembering the stakes of the mission. “So that means-”
You’re cut off by Natasha, who’s just burst through the doors. “Yes, you’re on the team.” She rushes to embrace you, and you smile at the show of affection. “But I got shot- I disobeyed orders-” Steve, who’d been closely following Natasha, shakes his head. “You saved the mission. If you hadn’t acted, the plans would have been lost. As much as I hate to say it, you did what you had to do.”
He fixes you with a sudden glare, although you can see right through it. “That being said, that was incredibly dangerous. You could have died or suffered serious injury. Even as it is, you’ll be spending at least a week in the hospital wing. We thought you were going to die, Y/N. No amount of missions will make up for your life.” You smile up at him, undaunted. “I’m not planning on repeating this anytime soon. I’ve had my life-and-death risk quota used up for the time being.”
Natasha chuckles, mussing up your hair. “That’s what I wanted to hear. Barely awake five minutes, and you’re already cracking jokes. I didn’t expect anything less.” You fix her with a triumphant grin. “Hey, I’m an Avenger now. I’m supposed to be used to this whole lifesaving thing.” Bruce chuckles, standing up to check a few readouts on the surrounding monitors. “I have no doubt about that. You might have to contend with Parker for the title of youngest Avenger, but I think that will be the least of your worries. Welcome to the Avengers, Y/N. We’re happy to have you.”
Fanfiction
Everything will be different now
Peter Parker/Natasha Romanoff
SpiderWidow
Peter doesn't want to believe what is happening. The first stage is always denial. He writes off his obsession with a hormonal surge. The guy does not cease to convince himself that he will still find his true love, because he is surrounded by quite beautiful girls of his age, and Peter himself is sure that he does it well (no)
Parker can only allow himself to fantasize, which however (as he thought) was enough for him. There were plenty of reasons to stay in the shadows. The most obvious of these was the age difference. He is 18, and she is 35. Yes, and reciprocity could not be counted on. A stately, intelligent, beautiful, and most importantly, a respected woman, and a teenager who cannot pacify his hormones. Completely different people. It's funny even to think about it. Parker understood this, and each time the awareness of reality cut him from the inside, delivering incredible pain and suffering.
***********
Natasha had fiery red hair. It seemed that only by touching them, you could get a great burn. Romanoff was all fire, and Peter was a moth, spellbound by the fire. Knowing that he was going to certain death, he continued to fly.
************
Peter loved looking at Natasha. Sometimes she noticed it, but with a great desire to look away, Parker still did not do it. After all, if he averts his eyes, one gets the impression that he was caught for something obscene. For a while, it seemed to Peter that she appreciated his attention, and that is why, in response to his studying look, she gives a warm smile, which he forever imprints in his memory. If he wanted to, Peter could remember each of her smiles, each of which he appreciated and remembered. Parker smiles back at her, hoping that he does not look stupid. At first they silently look into each other's eyes and do not need extra words, such moments come when both want to be distracted from the madness around them, and they do this, finding comfort in each other's eyes. Peter appreciates every moment that slips into these, to some extent, "intimate" minutes for the guy himself. And then Natasha looks down at him, shifting her gaze again to the eyes studying her. Peter swears he saw her bite her lip lightly one day. And after the exchange of smiles, Natasha averted her eyes, as if there were no glances and smiles a second ago. These "glances" remained only between them. For Peter, such moments were intimate and carried a special value. But each time he was forced to instill in himself, contrary to his wishes, that this was their special friendly gesture, which was long overdue to become some kind of routine. But he could not deceive himself. These views turned him wildly. A pleasant feeling burned in his chest, just thinking about how he wanted to continue. But he still preferred his fantasies.
******
There is another way to get Peter's heart to do somersaults. During their gatherings in the Avengers Tower, Parker is always in his favorite place - on the left side of the sofa. Natasha always sits down next to him, tightly pressing shoulder to shoulder, as if deliberately embarrassing the guy, but the following moments make Peter's heart literally jump out of his chest. After a minute (if not less), she grabs Peter's hand, interlaces her fingers with his, and wraps her hands behind their backs. Peter starts to shake every time Romanoff does this. They did it all the time, but for Spidey it was like the first time. He tries not to squeeze her thin hand too tightly, although in his state it is difficult to control himself. But not too weak either. Peter starts to breathe more quickly, and can hardly contain himself not to stare at her, showing his indignation.
****
Natasha feels him trembling every time, but she never says anything, because she guesses that these moments mean something to Peter and she doesn't want to hurt him with her grin (although it was very difficult to restrain herself). But she could not do this to him, no one treated her so reverently and attentively. And of course this attitude flattered her. But the boy is only eighteen. She will not forgive herself if she "seduces" a boy who has recently become an adult. After all, it's not okay to try to please a boy who is 17 years younger than her. But Romanoff probed the possible ground with such casual but obvious gestures. And, God, how she liked to watch his reaction, how he got lost, but made every possible effort to seem more confident, not even realizing that Natasha saw him through. She took pleasure in first encouraging him, and then cutting off, not letting him really understand anything and pretend that she didn’t do anything. One day she allowed herself to bite her lip. Peter even glanced around to make sure the gesture was meant for him, and then fell into a stupor with realization. This time, Peter thought it would be more appropriate to look away this time. This amused her greatly. But the Spider did not make it clear whether the Spider was scared or simply did not expect such a sharp turn of events.
*****
Usually Natasha understood what she wanted and always confidently walked towards the intended goal. But Peter ... he changed her mind. She didn't want to see anyone but herself next to Parker. Every time Romanoff saw the Spider, something warm and viscous spilled over her chest. An ordinary person would think that she was just a little nervous, but Natasha denied any thoughts of this nature. Would she be nervous? Never!
Peter became for Natasha a kind of weak point, an obsession.
One day changed the fate of both.
Peter spent his Saturday morning at his home in Queens. It was early March and that day turned out to be rather cloudy, and then huge dark clouds hung over the city, warning of imminent rain. On such days, I do not want to do anything, there comes some kind of apathy for everything. Peter liked to devote such days to watching movies or reading books. These activities somehow lifted my spirits.
But his idyll was broken only by one phone call.
"Peter!" Fury's voice came from the tube - "listen carefully, now we have a very important task, but I'm not calling you for this" - Peter was intrigued - "we don't need the whole Avengers, but Stark said that training for you will not be superfluous, so you I have to come to the base, we will leave you someone for training, and we are already flying out, so I recommend to hurry."
Before Peter had time to say anything in response, beeps were heard from the other side, announcing the end of the conversation. Peter dreamed of getting on some "top secret" assignment. He can't wait to prove himself. He wants to seem more responsible and adult than he really is, but it seems to him that no one takes him seriously (Even during telephone conversations). He wanted some kind of recognition. And each time, hoping for a serious assignment, he only gets training with Steve or, even worse, with Barnes, from whose hands it is impossible to get out alive. But it is useless to argue.
After a while, Peter was already entering the main hall, looking around such a familiar room. The interior was empty and Peter was about to turn around to search other rooms. But before he could do this, his eyes covered someone's palms. Not having time to understand anything, Peter turned sharply, brushing off other people's hands, and grabbing a potential "attacker" by the wrists. Imagine his surprise when he turned sharply and looked into Natasha's green eyes.
“What are you doing?” The redhead asked with a touch of irony. “It's just a joke, Peter.
“Sorry, reflex,” Peter justified himself, feeling a little guilty.
“Yes, I understand,” Natasha replied with a note of mockery. “Well, what do you propose to do?
“By training?” Parker answered with an obvious lack of understanding in his voice, not expecting such a question.
“Are you really doing everything Stark tells you?” Romanoff asked in surprise.
"Well ... I think it will be useful ... and ..." Not knowing what to say, Peter tried to continue.
“God, just don’t say that you’re afraid of the evil uncle Tony, who will come and scold us?” Natasha pouted her lower lip and raised her eyebrows. And then she could not restrain herself at all, she laughed.
Parker could not help smiling, realizing how funny and true it sounds.
“Why didn't you go with them?” Peter asked a question that had been of interest to him for a long time.
“They decided that I was too often involved in operations, and that I deserved to rest,” Mocking Fury, and raising her index finger, she lowered her voice and spoke just like him.
This made Peter laugh out loud. The resemblance to Fury is amazing.
“I've never heard so many jokes from you, only if during your quarrels with Mr. Stark.” Peter said.
“You just don't know me well, but you can take this wonderful opportunity and get to know me better,” said Romanoff a little more quietly, shifting her gaze to Peter's lips, but realizing what was said, she returned her gaze back to Parker's eyes.
With her phrase, she struck Peter on the spot. To be honest, Natasha herself did not expect this from herself, she was thrown into the cold from the realization of her words. But after that, the fear turned sharply into confidence. She began to slowly approach Peter with the thought of "now or never."
“Um ... Miss Romanoff?” Peter asked, clearly not expecting this turn of events. Of course, he dreamed about it from their first meeting, but now he was simply not ready.
“Peter,” Natasha is stretched out almost in a whisper, “Did you know that you are insanely beautiful?
Determined not to waste time, Red hugged Peter's face with her hands, stood on tiptoe and kissed Peter tenderly on the lips. She kissed without pressure, completely weightless, as if asking permission to continue.
"Umm ... Miss Romanoff ..." Peter began, but was interrupted by Natasha.
“No, no, no, now it's just Nat,” Romanoff muttered through half-closed lips.
"Uh ... yes, but I have to say something ..." Again, Peter does not have time to finish
“Not now ...” Natasha continued to whisper.
She was wildly hot until she looked into Peter's eyes. She saw fear there. Romanoff thought he wanted to stop her, but was afraid. Sweet excitement melted in my chest.
“What's the problem?” Romanoff asked, pulling back a little, although she understood that the problem was obvious, but it was worth asking.
“It's all ... it's all wrong, and I'm not sure ...” Stammering, Peter continued to come up with an excuse, not so much for Natasha as for himself.
"God, Peter Benjamin Parker! What's wrong with you? You dreamed about this more than anything else! What's your problem?" - one after another, thoughts flashed through the guy's head, forcing him to listen. Peter wanted to, but he was afraid. After all, he is an inexperienced teenager who simply has nothing to surprise her with. And the fear of being rejected and ridiculed became stronger than his desire. But Natasha interrupted his stormy stream of thoughts.
—Okay, I won't if you say that you don’t want me — Natasha challenged me — Come on, one phrase and Aunt Nat will no longer bother you — Natasha added, slightly dropping her eyelids, and directing her glassy gaze into Parker's eyes ...
Natasha didn't need an answer. She knew that the Spider would not resist her, and when he still admits defeat, it is only a matter of time.
Inside Parker, two feelings continued to struggle: fear and desperate desire. Fear kept saying that you shouldn't do things that you will regret for a very long time. But the desire, backed up by his dreams of this moment, insisted that trying is not torture and worth a try anyway. And at the end of this internal dilemma, Peter came to the conclusion: "If she insists on this, then she really wants it, which means she just needs to pull herself together, turn fear into confidence and act."
“You know I’ll never say that.” Peter replied, lighting up Nate with his bright and slightly nervous smile.
“I thought so.” Threw Romanoff before attacking Spider again. She felt his insecurity and wanted to help him relax as soon as possible.
This time their kiss was longer, more confident, deeper than the last time. Now their languages were fighting among themselves for primacy, but no one wanted to give up in this fight. Peter's hands went around Nat's waist and pulled her closer to him, as if Parker was afraid of losing her. A warm, pleasant feeling blossomed in my chest, because of it both felt themselves "in their place." For a second, Natasha allowed herself to pull back to get some air in her lungs, but Peter did not want to be ignored, even for such a short time. His hands went down to Romanoff's buttocks, squeezing them tighter, letting her know that Peter wasn’t the type to wait. In one sharp movement, Parker pulled her towards him, biting into her red lips. For a second, Peter was even amazed at his confidence, but decided not to waste time and move on, guided only by his instincts. Natasha smiled at him, and then continued to lick his palate and from time to time pull back her lower lip, thereby forcing the Spider to move towards her. Natasha's hands helped her in this, grabbing him by the hair and guiding him closer and closer to her. With a snap, Romanoff unzipped her latex suit, grabbing Peter's arm and placing it on her chest. The guy was not satisfied with the unzipped zipper and with this thought he pulled off the suit from her marble shoulders, and then completely exposing the whole body from the shoulders to the waist.
"It seems that the bolder, the better. Because I don't see any other explanation. Besides, she seems to be really happy, which means I'm doing everything right." - Parker's internal debate was not planned to stop.
They kissed passionately, with taste. These were magical moments, but Peter wanted to surprise Natasha, to make her really pleasant.
Captivated by this idea, Parker grabbed Romanoff and sat him on the counter, ridding his entire body of the latex suit.
“I didn't know what you can do,” Nat stretched out intrigued.
“I thought today was our discovery day.” Peter said with a grin.
Peter slowly went down to Natasha's thighs with his hands, picking up the elastic of his silk panties with his fingertips, getting rid of the interfering little thing. From desire between Natasha's thighs, everything burned, it seemed if Peter hesitated even a second, then she would just start dripping. Romanoff lowered her back to the table, propping her body up with her elbows so she could see Peter and his face. Parker gently spread Nat's legs, placing them on two high chairs on either side of him for added convenience.
Noticing the excess moisture in Natasha's crotch, he first bent down, parted the labia and began to lick every last drop. Each movement of his tongue, increasingly brushing her clitoris swollen with desire, made Natasha bend in an arc. She couldn't contain her moans escaping from her every time Peter changed his pace.
Then Parker abruptly pulled away from Natasha, leaving her dissatisfied, causing this to snort disapprovingly. Then Peter brought two fingers to Natasha's lips.
"Close." - Peter ordered imperiously.
Natasha did not object, she even liked that at least somewhere the role of the dominant was assigned not to her. She slowly opened her mouth, swallowing two fingers, and beginning to generously wet them with saliva, while she did not take her gaze from under half-closed eyelids from Peter's eyes. Parker even admired this picture for a few seconds. Natasha, lying on the table, completely belonging to him, licks his fingers without taking her lustful gaze from him. This sight awakened animal instincts in him. But Peter had to stop her. He wanted to see it through to the end.
“Enough!” Peter said, removing wet fingers from her mouth.
And now a new wave of vivid sensations rolled over her with renewed vigor, forcing her to moan more often and louder, while Peter abruptly entered her, picking up the pace. She prayed not to come in the first ten seconds. But it was not there, Peter put the thumb of his other hand to the girl's clitoris, starting to press on it, adjusting to the rhythm of the fingers, which caused a new barrage of groans that filled the entire room.
A couple more movements and Natasha's eyes roll up, her mouth opens, gasping for air, her back arches, and her hands rummage around the table in search of at least some support, but not finding anything they grab onto the edges of the table, almost tearing off the glass cover by the root. For another couple of seconds Natasha lies motionless, slowly coming to her senses. She realizes that she has never finished like this before. The redhead comes down from the table, wraps her arms around Peter's neck and whispers in his ear how much she loves him and how much she needs him. Then she feels his lips and bites into them with a kiss of gratitude. Then Natasha looks at her watch in horror and begins to dress convulsively.
“What is it, are you late somewhere?” Parker asked with undisguised surprise in his voice.
“Everyone will be back any minute, do you have any idea what will happen if they see us?” Natasha said, zipping up her zipper and putting her hair in order, thereby hiding all traces of their closeness.
Peter took a rag, wiped the table with it (to be sure)
When all the Avengers returned to the tower, they held some kind of urgent meeting, at which they discussed the details of the next mission. But neither Peter nor Natasha was interested in their discussions. They only continued to give each other their views, but both knew that now everything would be different.
an intervention was needed // thor x platonic!reader
request: Hey hey! I hope you're well & safe ☺️ can i request a fluffy but more platonic thor x reader, it's kinda specific: the reader is an asgardian and she's bff with Thor, basically like a sister. So he finally comes back to fight in Endgame after being depressed and shutting her out, and they reunite and there's a lot of feels and he just feels like a disappointment and a mess but she's like.. aw my sweet asgardian boi :( ill take care of u now, and oof i got carried away 😅 ty in advance hun!!
summary: after the fall of asgard, thor shut you out from his life completely. five years later, when that life is in danger, you take it upon yourself to fix things—if you are able.
words: 1497
warnings: infinity war/endgame spoilers, angst (sO much angst dude i never write it but this time,,,, i did), fluff at the end tho;)
a/n: i am SO sorry for the delay in writing this imagine—school has been very tough recently because teachers still feel the need to assign hours of work every day. however, this was a wonderful request, and i am absolutely loving writing, so please keep sending ‘em in!!! i love you all💕
✖✖✖
There were plenty of upsides to being Asgardian—increased reflexes and fighting skills, the ability to down enough liquor to make mortals stare, and of course your special power—the ability to heal physical wounds. Due to your fighting and healing abilities, the Avengers had taken you on as a valuable asset to their pursuit of justice. You had been on Midgard for a few years, now, and while it gave you great joy to be able to help, it was also the root of many of your problems.
You hadn’t been there when Asgard was ravaged by Thanos. Instead, you had been with the rest of the Avengers, discussing a possible threat in Seattle. You had felt the devastating pull in your gut that alerted you of something wrong in your home world. Instantly, you bolted to your feet, screaming for Heimdall to transport you so you could help in any way you can. You shouted your throat ragged, but you learned three unbearable days later that there was no more Bifrost tower and no Heimdall to defend it.
To make matters worse, you suffered not only the loss of your homeland, but also the presence of your best friend Thor. He had entered your room after those three days a broken shell of a man. You had tried to get through to him, to connect and mourn over your losses, but he had been nothing but cold to you.
“You cannot understand my grief,” he told you in a cold, distant voice you could barely recognize as his own.
“We are both Asgardians, Thor!” you cried. “We mourn for the same land—the land of our fathers and mothers before us.”
“And where were you when that land needed your help?” he snarled, turning and glaring at you.
“I screamed Heimdall’s name for an hour,” you spat indignantly, tears beginning to burn their way down your cheeks. “No one was there, it wasn’t my fault!”
“I had to watch my own brother die,” Thor choked, unable to control the tears welling up in his own eyes. “Thanos murdered him like he was merely an insect—but he was my brother. Do you have any idea—“
“Loki was also an acquaintance of mine, and I view his loss with no small sorrow. I cannot imagine the pain you must feel, my friend.”
“Friend,” Thor spat. “I hardly think so.”
“Please, Thor, rid yourself of this anger—I do not recognize you.”
“Perhaps it is for the better.”
With that, he spun Mjolnir and flew to gods-knew-where. You were so numb that it took you hours to notify Tony of the gaping hole through the building.
✖✖✖
You stood stock-still, emotions swirling from shock to embarrassment to pure confusion as you took in the man in front of you. He hadn’t shown his face on Earth the whole five years, and you were completely shocked at what he had done to himself. “Thor?” you breathed. “Why are you—um—well—“
He looked down his nose at you, tilting his sunglasses down with the hand that wasn’t holding a can of beer. Squinting, he tried to realize who he was speaking to. His realization was so slow that you could literally see it blooming across his features. When he recognized it was you, he merely turned around, mumbling something about wanting a Bloody Mary. You stared blankly after him as he stumbled out of the room, your mouth hanging open.
“Not sure what happened there,” Steve said as he came up behind you. “Clearly he hasn’t been taking things well.”
“Yes, I can see that,” you managed.
“Are you doing okay? I know you guys had a fight of some kind the last time he was here.”
“Yes, yes. I’m going to see if I can talk to him and find out what’s going on,” you decided. “He cannot fight like this.”
“I agree,” Steve said, wishing you luck as he left to confer with Natasha.
Although you tried, you had no luck throughout the day in getting Thor alone—mostly due to the fact that you were in meetings nearly constantly, and he seemed to be in a drunken stupor for every single one. It was sort of the elephant in the room for everybody, and you could tell more than a few of them were wondering if he was even capable of fighting in this state. Even you had your doubts about your former friend, so you decided to take matters into your own hands.
As it happened, you didn’t get your chance until late that night, when most of the Avengers were in their rooms thinking about the subjects of the day’s meetings. Taking a deep breath, you set your jaw resolutely and made your way through the numerous corridors to Thor’s room. Your heart pounded, but you furrowed your brow defiantly. You were Asgardian, and you definitely had the strength to help Thor out of—whatever this was.
At least, you hoped so.
You knocked on the door and were met with silence for several moments. Raising your knuckles, you were just about to repeat your action when you heard a faint mumble.
“‘s there?”
“It’s me.” You inhaled deeply, praying you wouldn’t be electrocuted on the spot. There was another, even longer silence, before—
“C’me in.” You were floored at his response, but recovered and turned the doorknob softly. The sight you were met with broke your heart.
Thor sat on the floor, leaning against his bed with tears tracking their way down his face and into his beard. Cans of alcohol littered the floor, and you could smell the sickly-sweet stench from where you stood. You forgot the five years of silence in an instant and rushed to his side, sitting down next to him.
“Thor?” you managed, and he turned his tear-filled eyes on you. As he took in your worried face, his own crumpled and he began to sob anew, nearly falling into you as you wrapped your arms around him. You simply let him cry for a while, rubbing soothing circles on his back with your thumbs. Eventually, he sat back up, his motions slow and sad. “What is it?” you ask.
“Seeing my brother die—my home laid waste—how do I move past that? How can I live knowing what has happened? I was unable to save Loki or Asgard,” he said, his words falling with deadly conviction. His voice lowered even more as he finished. “I couldn’t—I couldn’t even save myself.”
“Oh, Thor,” you whispered. These five years must have been pure hell for him. His eyes were tortured as they looked into yours, and without thinking, you took his hand as you spoke.
“What you have witnessed will no doubt haunt you for the rest of your life. I say now as I did five years ago that while I mourn with you, I cannot fathom how deep your sorrow must be. I can tell it has plagued you these last five years, and I only wish I had tried to fix things earlier. Thor, you could not have done anything more to save our world and everyone in it. You may be a god, but that does not mean you do not have limits. You fought hard, my friend. And I am proud of you. I am.” He was watching you intently as you spoke, tears renewing themselves as you went on.
“But this—“ You motioned to the alcohol scattered around the room. “This is not like you. You do not deserve to fade away into nothing, brought down by your own devices. Instead, you must take your grief and rage and use it as motivation, use it to heal. Only then can you find within yourself what you so desperately need. And I will be here every step of the way to help you through.”
Thor’s eyes overflowed again, but this time you could sense relief radiating off him. He drew you in for another hug, and you held him tight, knowing this is what he had needed to hear all this time. “Thank you, my friend,” he whispered in your ear.
“I am happy to do it, Thor. I would do anything to help you,” you told him sincerely.
“I must also apologize from the depths of my heart for shutting you out. The only thing my actions accomplished was create more hurt for both of us. I needed you by my side and instead I pushed you away.”
“It was only natural, Thor. You were grieving and were unsure of how to handle yourself. All is forgiven now,” you said, smiling at him. “Now, if you feel able, shall we go to the kitchen? I find that Midgardian food is most helpful in times like these.” You stood up, extending a hand to him.
And for the first time in five years, Thor felt hope coursing through him and found that he, too, was able to smile.
Soulmate Series: How You Meet (Part One)
Tony Stark-
Not everyone has a soulmate, but those that do have various ways they are connected to each other.
For you it was that the rate of your heartbeats always matched the other.
So if you were stressed or in danger he would immediately feel it.
God you were terrified when you felt your heart basically stop when he was in Afghanistan.
The way the two of you met was actually really kind of sweet.
Somehow you were invited to a Stark party, whether it was by a friend or because of your work.
People were basically wall to wall covering the room, the conversation making it almost impossible to hear.
Accidentally you ran into someone knocking their glass out of their hand causing it to shatter on impact.
Apologizing profusely you bent down to help pick it up.
Hitting a particularly sharp piece cutting your finger slightly.
When your heart rate spiked due to the pain he felt it too staring at you with wide eyes understanding before you even met his gaze.
Upon explaining you questioned if it was even possible, that your soulmate was THE Tony Stark.
Taking you to a quiet room he asked FRIDAY to check if it actually matched, which she quickly confirmed.
Tony was determined to keep you by his side, there was no leaving him anymore even if you wanted to.
Not that he would tell you that in any way.
After all these years he finally found his soulmate, the one destined to be his.
Steve Rogers-
Steve had always seen the world in a blend of various shades of gray.
Sketching only in charcoal pencil when he did his little drawings in his sketchbook.
No point in using color you couldn’t see.
Believing that he was going to die not meeting his soulmate when he went into the ice.
Upon waking up in present day he was confused, but also had a sense of renewed faith that maybe he just didn’t find his soulmate before because they weren’t alive yet.
He will always remember the day he met you, having saved you from an alien about to eat you alive.
Feeling you shake in his arms until your eyes latched onto his, seeing the most brilliant blue you had ever seen before.
Quickly he set you down, only having time to get your name before he had to return to the fight.
That is what began his obsession with you, knowing that you both belonged together.
Watching you from afar initially to discover what kind of person his soulmate is.
Finding out everything you liked and disliked, determined to be the perfect one for you when he finally approached you.
Pretending to run into you again, he asked you out on a date.
There was no way at the end of the night you would be walking away from him again, he wouldn’t let you go a second time.
Clint Barton-
Clint had been born with a tiny arrow tattoo just behind his ear.
Legend had it that his soulmate would have the same one, in the same place.
Although he was sure that he didn’t have a soulmate, a man with a crazy life like his didn’t deserve one in his mind.
When his hearing was damaged, his hearing aids that Tony built him covered it up.
One day he got into a hand to hand fight with a Hydra agent during a mission.
His aids were knocked out and smashed under their boot as a part of the struggle, thankfully they could be replaced with an extra set he kept in his vest.
Ultimately he won but he definitely had some cuts and bruised ribs that would need tending to.
Luckily you had just started in the medical wing of the tower as an on duty nurse.
Getting your first patient you never expected that they would end up being your soulmate.
Talking to Clint it felt like you had known him your entire life, and in a way you kind of had.
Laughing at one of his jokes you tucked your hair behind your ear not thinking anything of it when your tattoo was showing.
You of all people knew how rare it was for even people with a soulmate to find the love of their life.
Catching your gaze he moved his replacement hearing aids showing that the two of you matched.
Gasping you touched it gently with the tips of your fingers, unable to believe that you were one of the special cases.
Clint would never let you go, not after being proven so wrong about you not existing as there you were in front of him.
Natasha Romanoff-
For as long as you could remember you had gotten various injuries when you least expected them.
When you were a child you were taken to the doctor where they revealed that you had a soulmate out in the world.
That when they got hurt, or vice versa the other got the injury in return.
Occasionally you would get hurt really badly, having apparent bullet wounds even from time to time.
That is what made you think that your soulmate worked a dangerous job, so you decided to do the same in return.
Training really hard to become one of the top SHIELD recruits in your class.
Meaning you got to do your final evaluation with an Avenger.
Of course you grew nervous when you discovered that you were assigned to Natasha Romanoff, her reputation preceding her.
Stepping into the sparring ring with her you began to move around narrowly avoiding her attacks.
Effectively fighting her off for the most part, doing exactly what you had been trained to do.
Unfortunately you got distracted when she asked you about a scar you had, allowing her to get a good punch in.
Falling back onto your ass you felt blood dripping from your nose, touching it as your eyes watered you didn’t notice her touching her own.
Looking up focusing you saw that she was bleeding from her own nose despite you not even getting close to hitting her.
Natasha wasn’t upset though, in fact she was almost starting to cry at finally finding you.
Kneeling down she took you into her arms, taking in the fact that she would never again have to be without you.
Bruce Banner-
You remember spending a lot of your childhood in a state of fear and anxiety most of the time.
As you got older you started to get angry for no reason at all.
One minute you would be fine, the next you were enraged like you had just witnessed your car being set on fire.
It was really starting to become a problem in your day to day life.
You couldn’t hold down a job for long before you would have an outburst and get yourself fired.
Going to a therapist you were told that likely your soulmate was the cause of your emotional state.
Having it explained to you that you can also help them by giving them your emotions too.
So if they were having a moment of rage you could give them relaxation or joy in return to counteract it.
Likely you taking on their emotions fully like you had been only projected it back onto them even worse.
Feeling confused about how you had gone this long without knowing you had a soulmate, you wondered if it was real or if the therapist was full of shit.
That was until one day you were watching the news at a local diner where you had managed to earn a temp job as a waitress.
Talking about an attack on the city, showing live footage of the situation showing all of the Avengers getting ready to attack.
Gripping the counter tightly you felt yourself start to get angry again, so you attempted to calm down.
However it was no use as you watched a man turn into a tall green monster on the screen, knowing in your heart and soul that he was the one you were meant to be with.
Rushing out of there you stupidly ran down to where the fighting was taking place, luckily getting there after it ended.
Following the roars you started to give out feelings of calmness and peace.
Turning the corner you saw a mostly naked man panting and heaving hunched over in a nearby alleyway.
When he suddenly felt joy he looked up seeing you standing there smiling at him, knowing it was really him when you experienced a brief bout of confusion at first.
“It’s you...you’re real.”
Nodding you rush over not even caring about his state of undress, throwing your arms around him.
For once Bruce didn’t let go, this was meant to be and he was going to let it take him.
Thor Odinson-
Thor was getting frustrated being stuck at the same body he was when he was 18.
A thousand years or more had passed and he still hadn’t found his soulmate.
It was only while working with the Avengers on Midgard did he find what he was looking for without even realizing it.
Being part of the team yourself you often interacted with Thor when he was hanging around.
Somewhere along the lines he became obsessed with you, taking in every bit of information you would give him when talking.
Learning much about the culture on Earth from you at the end of the day.
Seemingly over the next few years you got closer, to the point where you would say you were best friends… if not more.
One morning you were looking in the mirror and you saw something that shocked you beyond belief.
A silver hair in the midst of your natural color.
That meant you were finally aging, something you hadn’t really done in the last ten years.
There was only person it could be, the person that seemingly had your heart even if he didn’t know it.
Thor noticed his own aging for the first time around the same moment you did.
Crinkles had formed in the corners of his eyes, something that definitely wasn’t there before.
Rushing to find you, you both ran into each other... literally.
Luckily he caught you in his arms, you both starting to laugh at the coincidence.
Showing each other what you had discovered, deep down it was like he had always known it was you.
No one will ever love you more than the man who waited more than a lifetime to be with you.
Loki Laufeyson-
Most of your life you had your own dreams, that was until the attacks in New York.
Ever since then, there were times where you were just a spectator in the front row of a horror show.
After many nights with little to no sleep due to the terrifying sights you went to a sleep clinic to find out what is going on.
There you are told of a rare connection to a soulmate where you share each other's dreams.
However they couldn’t explain why it took so long for them to start.
The only explanation offered was that they came within close proximity of you and that jump started the connection.
A solution they offered was to attempt to lucid dream and bring them into your space to see who they were.
It took awhile but finally you felt like you wanted to attempt it.
Loki was sleeping and found himself sucked into your dream, something he always prefered over his own.
You provided his much needed escape from reality after all that had happened to him recently.
Quickly he realized that this was different than before, you seemed far more in control of the narrative than usual.
When you asked for his name he was shocked since normally you never knew of his presence.
Shocked as you were when you found out he was the man who had hurt a lot of people, connecting the dots between the timing your dreams started and when he attacked.
As you felt yourself starting to wake up you swore you heard him tell you he was going to come for you at the first chance.
Somehow you didn’t know if you were comforted or terrified by those words.
A Year in Reading: 2019 - Blue
So real life kind of kicked our asses in 2019 and we weren’t able to keep up with the monthly Mods’ Reads posts. We’ve gotten some questions about them and we still intend to keep them a thing, hopefully, in 2020. But for now, this will have to do. Below the cut is everything I’ve read in the past year:
(It’s a long list and I may have missed some things we try and warn for, so make sure to check tags and warnings on any fics that catch your eye <3)
January
Slainte mhaith by Speranza (oneshot | 1,180 | M)
Under the Bridges of Fame by alby_mangroves, notlucy (complete | 89,678 | E)
For better or for worse (usually worse), Steve Rogers has been the most famous guy in the room for a while. And though newsreels have given way to YouTube, people’s reactions haven’t changed much in seventy-some years. Steve’s become an expert at keeping his head down and getting on with his life.
A head-on collision on a busy street sends books flying and sweeps Steve off his feet. The point of impact has a name: James. A charming mess of long hair, thick glasses, and a crooked, not-quite-smile. If he recognizes Steve, he chooses not to comment, placing him firmly in Steve’s good graces.
As far as Steve can tell, they might be Bogie and Bacall all over again, save for the group of idiots with selfie sticks who surround them. But for once, the request isn’t for Steve.
Which begs the question: if James is James, then who the hell is Bucky?
So, You’ve Adopted a Fruit by Nejinee (complete | 17,769 | E)
Steve knows that Bucky’s trying his best to stay whole in this new modern world. Then Bucky finds a struggling little scraggly creature and decides immediately to wrap it up in his open heart and take it home. It’s a bit bizarre seeing a former assassin taking to something so small and helpless, but to Steve it all makes sense.
Part 1 of 2 lovestruck idiots and a dog
Sandy Cheeks by Nejinee (oneshot | 4,227 | T)
A day at the beach with Steve, Bucky and Blueberry.
Part 2 of 2 lovestruck idiots and a dog
The Job Between Here and There by Pohadka (series, ongoing | 182,404 | M)
He might be free from HYDRA’s command and making his own life now, but James Buchanan Barnes is far more lost than he’d ever been before. Nothing matches the vague memories he’s recovered so far, and the world has progressed far beyond needing soldiers. To find out what he wants, and how to get it, he just needs a little… Leverage.
all systems snot by galwednesday, silentwalrus, skellerbvvt (oneshot | 2,962 | T)
They don’t let you suck dick in quarantine.
A Hatemance For The Ages by BetteNoire (WeAreWolves) (series, ongoing, restricted | 28,750 | E)
This is what happens when you find your soulmate… and instead of birds singing and roses blooming, you discover they’re an insufferable jerk. But an insufferable jerk that you low-key really want to bang, if nothing else because MAYBE THEN THEY WOULD SHUT UP.
Features the worst, most annoying iterations of Cap!Steve and Modern!Bucky. There is nothing these two wouldn’t do for each other… out of spite.
[A series of occasional short fics that I write when I just want snark and hate sex]
The Department of Special Collections by alby_mangroves, Speranza (oneshot | 4,867 | T)
It was a messy thing of leather and papers and rope. It looked like Phillips had carelessly thrown a bunch of documents onto an old piece of black leather and then rolled the whole thing up and tied it … The papers inside were all different sizes, everything out of order and haphazardly stacked, like someone had been in a hurry and just grabbed it all.
love is blind (steve and bucky are just dumb) by talkplaylove, wearing_tearing (oneshot | 4,409 | T)
“You shouldn’t have interrupted their date, then,” Natasha pipes up, finally showing her face as she gives Bucky a wave and a tiny smile. “I like the hair.”
“Thank you.” Bucky preens a little. He ignores the teasing about this being a date; Nat and Sam somehow got it into their heads that Steve and him were dating via Skype calls. They’re not. They’re just friends who video call sometimes. Friends do that.
Part 3 of Happy Steve Bingo
Part 1 of men with no plans
i love him and our goat children by talkplaylove, wearing_tearing (oneshot | 5,526 | T)
“Bucky, why does Sam have a photo of you surrounded by goats and the words “Always be happy with Jesus” on it?” Steve asks, looking at him on the screen.
Or the one where Steve and Bucky move in together, adopt some goat kids, and live happily ever after.
Part 2 of men with no plans
Part 4 of Happy Steve Bingo
February
Treasured by Dira Sudis (dsudis), Sealcat (complete | 24,609 | M)
When everyone in town became convinced that a dragon really had come again to the Old Lair, and that the town would have to offer it tribute, they all looked at Steve.
Honestly, he was relieved.
The Joy of Little Things by obsessivereader, Sealcat (complete | 29,744 | E)
"Do you want me to eat you?"
“No, but—” Steve broke off his instinctive response. All his life, he’d believed in doing what was right… he was not about to stop now. Wincing at the prickling pain in his feet, he straightened up to his full height. “Yes. If it means you’ll leave this place.”
"But you don’t look very filling." The tip of the dragon’s tail twitched. "I don’t suppose you’re a virgin?" he asked hopefully. "I’ve heard they taste better."
Steve gritted his teeth and refused to answer. The dragon could very well find that out for himself. He stared at the dragon. The dragon stared back. Then the dragon got up, turned around, and went back into his cave.
"Well? Come on, tribute."
or, how Steve ends up working for a dragon with a very odd sense of humor
It's A Funny Story... by perfect_plan (oneshot | 6,009 | M)
Bucky just had the most mind-blowing sex of his life with a handsome stranger and nothing can ruin his day. That is until he goes out to breakfast with his room mate to meet Sam's best friend who just moved to town.
total eclipse of the bark by Deisderium (oneshot | 2,627 | T)
Steve's first day at the flower shop, he walks into the break room to find an extremely large and muscular man having a breakdown because his dog is sick. Only an asshole wouldn't try to comfort that large and muscular man.
Karma's A Fake Orgasm by gracie137 (complete | 51,653 | E)
There’s another abandoned mug, festering with mould in the living room — Steve offically has the world's worst roommates. And complains about them. Often. Bucky, tired of his lack of action, decides it’s time to avenge Steve's sleepless nights and unsanitary conditions once and for all. They’ll pretend to be the world’s most annoying couple: excessive PDA, loud fake sex, and general repugnance. The plan sounds easy enough; it will be strictly platonic. Or will it?
Part 1 of Revenge Is Best Served Horny
A minor misunderstanding, solidarity, and reunion by owlet (oneshot | 2,456 | T)
Barnes should know better. Lidia should charge her phone.
Part 8 of Infinite Coffee and Protection Detail
Licence To Thrill by roe87 (oneshot | 4,153 | M)
James is a Russian spy, ordered to take down American agent Steve Rogers.
Steve is an American agent, ordered to take down Russian spy James.
But when they first meet, things take a different turn.
(Or, a spies meet cute)
You Can't Take the Sky from Me by LeisurelyPanda (oneshot | 6,259 | M)
Captain Bucky Barnes and his crew were flagged by an Alliance ship after innocently minding their own business during an illegal salvage operation. It's not Bucky's first scrape with the oppressive, bureaucratic Alliance military, and it won't be the last. However, most Alliance vessels don't send someone so... adorably susceptible to Bucky's charms to interrogate him.
Steve was conscripted into the Alliance at a young age. He's been around long enough to know that it's not what everyone said it was when he was conscripted. A dashing rogue in his interrogation room, however, offers what might be his only chance at escaping this life.
It's The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year by stevergrsno (noxlunate) (oneshot | 5,186 | E)
“You should come over for a drink.” Christmas Stealing Hot Neighbor says instead of answering Steve’s very valid question.
“I really don’t think I should. Sounds like fraternizing with the enemy.” Steve says, even as he’s abandoning his tree and moving towards the gate.
“Look at is as a know thy enemy thing instead,” Christmas Stealing Hot Neighbor says before flashing Steve a smile and oh, oh no, Steve is screwed.
Aka Steve Rogers is competitive, Bucky Barnes is into his hot new neighbor, and Christmas Feelings ensue.
The New Super by gr8escap (oneshot | 3,001 | T)
Steve Rogers is trying to get comfortable in his almost affordable apartment and the New Superintendent of the building is a cruel distraction.
Part 6 of Happy Steve Rogers - [Bingo]
10-94* by gravesecret, softcorehippos (complete | 38,817 | E) *graphic violence
Late at night, when the city sleeps, they race.
Bucky Barnes owns a garage and race for pinks, Steve Rogers is an FBI Agent with a lot of people to prove wrong.
Destiny Knows Better by Polska_1999 (oneshot | 4,251 | T)
When Steve woke up after the ice with a new soulmark, and one that offended him no less, he made it his personal promise to hate the person that the universe chose to replace Bucky. Shame that the universe didn’t quite get the memo.
Part 9 of Sprint Towards Blackout (Happy Steve Bingo 2018)
Sergeant Hot Pants by cleo4u2 (oneshot | 11,798 | E)
When Sergeant Bucky Barnes is assigned to temporarily take over for Maria Hill, Steve can't quite keep his shit together. Not around Bucky, who is the hottest Alpha Steve's ever seen.
Lessons Are So Cold by herecomesbucktofuckshitup (complete | 57,575 | E)
Steve knows that he's small. He knows that someone has to go undercover at the local high school, and he knows that he was the right person for the job. He just wishes he wasn't. And Steve really really wishes that the cute boy he'd hooked up with the night before his mission hadn't turned out to one of his teachers.
Patience by cleo4u2 (oneshot | 5,073 | M)
You should never Google yourself. Steve knows that, he's been out of the ice for over a year, but he just can't help himself. After finding a gorgeous, sexy brunette thirst tweeting about calling him Daddy, he can't help himself from responding, either.
We Are The Lucky Ones by blithelybonny (oneshot | 28,563 | E)
The Soldiers will be drift compatible -- of that, there is no question. They were bred for perfect synchronicity; two halves of one whole, one mind in two perfect bodies.
But they cannot be allowed to remember. The drift may be catastrophic.
Seashore by Speranza (oneshot | 505 | not rated)
No Kind of Life by Speranza (oneshot | 1,995 | not rated)
"You know I have to do everything the hard way, Buck. It’s the fundamental fact of my nature.”
The Gentleness That Comes* by doctormccoy (oneshot | 8,566 | M) *sex work
Steve Rogers never really views the things he had to do to get by before the War with any sort of shame or embarrassment. People ask him for his opinions on modern issues in interviews, but Steve has gotten good at talking around those types of questions. Fury insists that there's no way to answer them without casting a shadow of controversy across the reputation of the Avengers, and that's the last thing Steve wants.
But then a sex tape is released featuring Tony Stark in bed with another man, and Steve can't stay quiet any longer.
Heckin' Chunker for Love by canistakahari (oneshot | 2,708 | T)
On the inside of the big floor to ceiling window of the office across the street, someone has used Post-it Notes to spell out a message:
Like Playing With Fire by GoldBlooded, LeisurelyPanda, wilfling (complete | 33,567 | E)
James is heir to his family's business, brought over from Mother Russia by his great-grandfather in 1917. In 1918, an Irish organization also moved to Brooklyn, a little too close for comfort. They've been rivals for over a hundred years, and it can get pretty stressful. Sometimes James needs to blow off some steam, and if a handsome stranger named Grant wants to do the same, James certainly isn’t going to say no.
Steve, heir to the Irish family, has never met James Barnes. But they all know that he's an arrogant, dangerous enemy without honor, as evidenced by the way the Russians are crossing lines again. On the way to a 'meeting' between the two families, Steve doesn't spare his counterpart a single thought... because his head is swimming with a man named Bucky and the earth-shattering night they've just spent together.
How will Steve and James cope when they find out they're sworn blood enemies? What happens when the 'meeting' is sabotaged by an unknown third party? Will the Irish and Russians be able to look past ancient, ingrained hurts for the sake of survival? More importantly, will Steve and James be able to ignore the ever-growing attraction between them?
I’m a Sucker for a Wild Boy by jinlinli (complete | 9,897 | T)
Steve is a vampire who’s never met a werewolf in his life before. Bucky is a werewolf who doesn’t even know vampires exist. Naturally, neck biting means two very different things to them.
In which Steve goes for a midnight snack and accidentally gets himself werewolf married.
The Very Heart of It* by merryofsoul (restricted, oneshot | 17,743 | M) *graphic violence
In which Captain America adopts a dog from Bucky and they become friends — and then more.
A Piece of Silly Affection by Reccea (restricted, oneshot | 11,687 | E)
Steve looked good, He looked hale and hearty and uninjured in his leather jacket, too-tight shirt, and jeans. He got off the motorcycle and his movements were graceful and fluid - no obvious signs of injury. He took off his helmet and --
Oh.
Steve had a beard.
Bucky’s mechanical hand spasmed oddly.
Life of the Party by AggressiveWhenStartled (complete | 21,689 | E)
“You know, kids,” Steve heard from the backyard, “one of the most common threats a superhero has to face is inside an active volcano! We’re going to have to work on your evasion skills, so for the next five minutes, the floor is lava!” This was met by a sudden spike in both volume and pitch from the small children as they scrambled onto every raised surface they could find and immediately launched themselves right back off.
“I’ve never seen actual lava in my entire life,” Steve said, vaguely offended.
“You got a superhero impersonator for The Falcon’s niece’s birthday party,” Sam said, incredulous. “The Falcon, who is an actual superhero.”
#TweetMeDaddy by StarSpangled (Senforza) (oneshot | 4,127 | T)
Coulson, for his part, stares up at Bucky with such a betrayed look of frozen horror that Natasha actually goes the extra step and presses another button, capturing the moment and airdropping the photograph to her phone for posterity. When he speaks, his voice comes out as a hoarse whisper. “Why…?” He swallows and starts again, trying for some semblance of normality. “...Why would you tweet something like that?!”
“If you must know, sir,” and somehow he manages to make ‘sir’ come out with the same inflection most people reserve for ‘motherfucking son of a bitch’, “it’s because I have a difficult time doing my job when my job involves monitoring the man with the best fucking ass in the United States of America.” He slowly lowers himself back into his seat until he’s at eye level, making extreme eye contact with Coulson until Coulson turns away to make mortified eye contact in Natasha’s general direction through the one-way glass. Natasha would take another picture, if she weren’t too busy catching Steve’s red-faced sputtering. “Sometimes, I vent to my Twitter followers. Sometimes, it’s about hot men with washboard abs. Can I go now, or do you need a graphic description of how I pleasure myself at night?”
Bad Moon Rising by spacebuck (complete | 57,533 | E)
Bucky Barnes is a lot of things:
- a nurse - the owner of a dorky dog that's too big for his own good - a lot older than he looks (by a lot more than you’d guess) - one of the last born-werewolves of his generation (namely due to point number one)
He's also one of the most powerful werewolves in New York City, not that he uses that power for more than keeping up with his work and playing with his dog.
But, when the once-in-two-hundred-years lunar event known to wolves as the Triple Moon comes along, Bucky's more than a little peeved to get to Central Park to find cloud cover blocking the majority of the power the moon is supposed to be giving him.
And then he finds an unconscious man in a clearing.
He doesn't connect the two, though in retrospect he should have - witches are sneakier than they appear.
much tattoo about nothing by Deisderium (oneshot | 14,579 | E)
Steve Rogers gets a lot of email requests, but never one like this: James Barnes wants to use his healing factor to practice tattoos.
Turns out tattoos give Steve boners.
My Arms Were Made To Hold You by portraitofemmy, rainbow_marbles (oneshot | 55,101 | E)
Tired of being kept awake at night by a screaming baby, Bucky decides to take matters into his own hands. Mostly he wants a good night's sleep, but what he gets is a beautiful baby boy with big blue eyes, a lonely father trying to move on from tragedy, and a chance at a family he never expected to have.
Part 1 of Never Let You Go
Coming Up Aces by greenbergsays (oneshot | 1,771 | E)
Bucky Barnes is a charismatic, flirty asexual man that lives with his awkward pansexual best friend, Steve Rogers.
Part 7 of Tumblr Ficlets
Don't Let the Tide Come and Wash Us Away by alittlewicked, hey_you_with_the_face (oneshot | 10,039 | E)
There was a man standing in the shop. A man with Steve’s leather jacket wrapped tight around him – or at least a jacket that looked like his seal skin.
Anyway.
A really beautiful, young man with a strong build and broad shoulders was standing in the doorway. His wispy brown hair framing an expressive face with beautiful pouty lips, an adorably cleft chin, and steel grey eyes that remembered Steve of the stormy seas of Ireland, of his ancestors’ home.
Steve was unabashedly staring (sue him, it was his shop).
Or: the one where Steve, the selkie with a coffee shop like they wished they had at 2 Broke Girls, gets accidentally selkie-married to Bucky, the dryad who just came back from an extended tree time, and they are both just idiots in love at first sight.
Just because it had been a joke didn’t mean it was a bad idea. Steve opened the phone book to the business section and searched fruitlessly for the right entries for about six minutes until he finally came across ‘Cl’ by sheer luck when a few pages stuck together as he turned them.
For some reason, his eyes were immediately drawn to a small, bleak ad in the corner, with only a few words, a phone number, and a thin black border.
The ad’s content:
“Winter’s Cleaning Services. Fees paid half up front. Specializes in blood removal.”
Well. That was. Specific.
Steve Rogers is Captain America, a superhero. Bucky Barnes is the Winter Soldier, an assassin. Steve needs someone to clean his apartment. Bucky shows up to a meeting with a potential client. Neither of them got quite what they expected.
Steve Rogers doesn't have time for your fancy relaxation. He doesn't have time for your comfy pillows, or your body wash, or your chamomile tea that tastes like plant matter with a side of "why". Steve Rogers only wants one thing in life; to work until the end of days, because at least then he can say he didn't waste his time on Earth doing nothing.
Bucky Barnes has flowers in his hair and chlorophyll in his skin, and he doesn't have time to be stressed. Why would he, when there's rain to dance in, sun to bask in, and philodendrons to talk to? So he is, understandably, very worried about his (sadly) human neighbor who wouldn't stop and smell the roses if he faceplanted in a flower bed. Obviously something must be done.
His job is not made easier when he finds himself falling for his commanding officer, a certain blond Athenian Assassin who hides a powerful secret.
But they are not the only ones after the Tesseract. The beginnings of a plan took shape in Steve’s mind, as clear and simple as a tactical frontal assault. He’d prove to Bucky that this was it, he was staying: Steve was retired from the fighting game, Steve wasn’t going to let anything keep pulling them apart. Maybe then when Steve finally told him he loved him, Bucky would believe him.
All things considered, Steve thought he’d handled the whole Thanos killing half the universe thing and the ensuing bitter, desperate quest to defeat him pretty well. Sacrificing his super soldier serum to use one of the Infinity Stones wasn't a problem either, not when it meant getting back the half of the universe they'd lost, and especially not when it meant getting Bucky back. But retirement and finally confessing his feelings for Bucky? Those were proving to be more challenging.
“Twenty years,” Fury says slowly, taking special care to imbue each word with his personal brand of bone-chilling judgement. It used to make Bucky quiver in his boots back when he was a baby S.H.I.E.L.D agent with two functional arms. “In that time, I have asked, threatened, coaxed, and damn near begged this man to work for us, or at least with us, and what finally gets it done is your dick?”
“Ass.”
“Excuse me?”
Seven years into an isolated retirement after the Battle of New York, Steve has carved out a place for himself in the foothills of the Catskill Mountains. He has a best friend (his dog, Lady), a frenemy (a local black bear named Rufus), and a cabin in the middle of the woods, an hour's drive from the nearest town. As November comes to a close, he heads into town to pick up supplies and ends up with a stowaway.
Bucky hasn't had much luck over the past seven years. Disaster caused his family to move from New York to Indiana, and his life has steadily fallen apart ever since. After one too many heartbreaks, he decides to hitch his way back to the last place he remembers being happy: Brooklyn. Knit One, Purl Two, Is How I Say "I Love You"* by Ignisentis (oneshot | 4,636 | T) *chose not to warn
Bucky looks up from the book he’s reading at the sound of the familiar gentle clacking of the wooden needles Steve has always preferred to use when he’s knitting. He used to knit back in the day whenever he wasn’t drawing. He said it helped calm him down, that he liked making things, especially for Bucky, that it made him feel like he was contributing more since it was hard for him to hold down a regular job.
Bucky thought it was all of those things but also that Steve Rogers was never the kind of man who could keep his hands still.
He used to knit Bucky socks and hats and scarves whenever he could get his hands on some yarn. He’d always wanted to make a sweater but never could get the same kind of yarn in sweater quantities.
Now, though. Now Bucky has a handful of sweaters that Steve’s made for him: a cable-knit fisherman’s sweater with a shawl collar; a simple pullover; a replica of Steve’s WWII dancing monkey sweater he wore on stage that Steve gave him with a smirk; a chunky Tweed cardigan with elbow patches; the lightest, most sumptuous cashmere henley-style pullover; even a Fair Isle with the Ghostbusters symbol worked into the yoke. Fuck, but Bucky loves that movie. And the sweater.
Something about that wide-eyed, slightly nervous look catches at Steve’s memory. “Bucky?”
Steve remembers a shy, sweet teenager, with soft round cheeks, eyes too big for his face, and a wild head of hair. A man wearing a light denim jacket over a dark blue shirt came into the shop, a box tucked under his right arm. Despite it being late afternoon, he was wearing sunglasses with bright blue lenses, and his long, dark hair was pulled back in a messy little bun. A few strands had escaped, framing his strong, unshaven jawline. The man looked into the café, smiled widely, and waved in Clint’s direction as he kept walking into the bookstore, and Steve’s mouth went completely dry.
Beautiful, was the only word to describe that smile; straight, white teeth framed by full, lush, red lips, bracketed by laugh lines and an adorable dimple in his right cheek, a charming little chin cleft just visible under the light stubble—Steve was struck literally speechless. And that was before he got a glimpse of the man’s backside. Slim hips and a round, firm-looking ass led to long, lean legs that were encased in snug, dark blue jeans.
“Guh,” Steve said, watching the dark-haired man continue on to the back of the store.
But then the creatures kept coming. James punched through the chest of a biped taller than him with his flesh arm and ripped its heart out for good measure.
James smiles at Steve, a small, heated thing.
She’d sent him a picture of Sam asleep, his legs sprawled over the shield on one end of the couch and his head in her lap on the other. Bucky snorted and tilted the screen so Steve could see.
Steve shook his head, mock scandalized. “Captain America for five minutes, and he’s already using the shield as a footrest.”
“I know for a fact you scrambled eggs in that thing.”
“That was to feed my team, Buck. It was my sworn duty as field commander.”
“It was a dare from Jones.”
“So it was two things,” Steve said, and ducked out of Bucky’s half-hearted noogie attempt, pulling the towel back to use as a defensive barrier. If Only In My Dreams by odetteandodile (complete | 28,317 | T)
Bucky is a highly successful cooking and lifestyle blogger, the gay New England Pioneer Woman if you will. He writes all about life in his Connecticut home with his D.H. (darling husband). Only problem? It’s all complete fiction. He actually lives in a shitty Brooklyn apartment, is single as hell, and has visited Connecticut exactly one time at the age of eight.
When his agent Sam informs him that he's been offered an exclusive sponsorship deal with Stark Media and a three book contract to go with it, Bucky's forced to fess up to Sam, who's predictably...displeased. But Sam's also convinced the deal is too good to miss—even if they have to put on a little bit of a show in order to get it.
So Tony and Pepper descend on Bucky and Sam's fake home for Christmas with a devastatingly handsome War Hero in tow, and their already complicated plan quickly gets even more complicated as Bucky finds himself falling head over heels for Steve. Can he keep it together just for the holidays? Did he ever have it together in the first place?
Not Without You* by SevereStorms, wreckingthefinite (complete | 94,402 | E) *graphic violence
Six months earlier, Bucky would have said the prospect of dying back home in Brooklyn sounded like a dream. Now, faced with his own imminent demise in a Brooklyn that is almost unrecognizable, it’s decidedly less appealing.
Honestly, it’s just sort of bizarre. Survive Afghanistan and come home to die in the pseudo-zombie apocalypse. Can’t make this stuff up.
Servitum by justanotherStonyfan (complete | 42,745 | E)
Steve appears in the hallway, and James turns his head to look at him, doesn't move otherwise. Steve’s in pale blue jeans and a white button down with the four buttons open and his tag chain visible beneath, which is sexy as fuck, but it’s even sexier when he towers over James like this.
"James?" Steve says, and he's not worried, James can tell. He's on the edge of it, sure - he's bemused, and prepared for something to be amiss - but he's not worried yet, so James closes his eyes for a moment.
"Help," he says, and then looks up at Steve. "I've fallen and I can't get up."
Wenceslas by dragongirlG, mcl4r3n (complete | 17,915 | M)
Steve is a short, skinny Brooklynite with a very stable, predictable life, which he built after losing his memories in a traumatic accident six months ago. He works from home on a steady stream of art commissions, goes to weekly trivia nights with his superhero friends the Avengers, and tries not to get bothered by the constant feeling that something is not quite right.
When Steve invites a homeless man with one arm to take shelter in his apartment during a December snowstorm, both of them enter a dreamscape that unravels the fabric of their memories and reveals the truth about their identities—and their relationship to each other.
A wintertime fic featuring dream-sharing, identity porn, and Steve in the 21st century, inspired by the movie Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and the musical composition Wenceslas Suite by Bob Chilcott. Now complete!
Welcome to the 4 Minute Window Advent calendar for 2019! As always, my goal is to tell a little bit of story in this universe each day (knock wood) between the Immaculate Conception and Christmas. Explicit eventually, the rest as it comes. This year there's loads of multimedia, as you might glean from the list of contributors.
Bloodbound Chapter 17- Is this the real life?
Read from the beginning here.
Present time
Wanda walked out of her office. She needed to talk with her brother. When she went out to the corridor, we saw Pietro near the vending machine. He was already munching on an energy bar and was on the act of acquiring his next.
“Pietro” she called softly.
He turned around to his sister’s voice. Even though she spoke in a normal tone, his ears felt it was too loud. His face broke into a grin and he opened his arms to an inviting hug. She rushed to him and enclosed him in a tight hug.
“How are you feeling?”
“Great” he beamed. “Different but good different.” He laughed. Her eyes watered with happiness. The thought that she had almost lost him struck her and she held him tightly.
“How are you doing, Wand?”
She looked at him for a moment before answering. “Weird. I need to tell you something.” She filled him on what happened earlier that night. She also told him about Howard. He had a puzzled look on his face but didn’t judged her.
“You don’t have to feel guilty, sis.” His voice was soft.
“I am trying. But I feel I violated their privacy.”
“Don’t worry. We will work out everything like we always do. Maybe Steve might know something about this.”
She nodded. “Why are you guys out here?” she asked him indicating to Coulson and Howard loitering around.
“Old couples quarrel” Howard grinned like an idiot.
“Let’s go on check on Steve.”
The twins made their way to Steve’s office. The office door was open and only Steve was sitting on the sofa. There was so sign of Bucky. Wanda slowly walked to Steve and rested her hand on his shoulder grabbing his attention. He looked at her with sad eyes. The twins settled next to Steve and comforted him.
“How are you holding up?”
“I will be fine. By living this long, one thing I have learnt that dwelling on what might have been, it’s no way to live.”
Wanda gave a sad smile and patted his shoulders.
“How are you, kid?”
“My life is a mess. I don’t even know what is happening to me.”
“Hey” he said softly, “I might have a clue of what you’re experiencing. Once we are done with this situation, we can deal with it” he promised.
“Thanks... I want you to know I didn’t intend to see your... your memories.”
“I know. I’m not angry at you, kid” he smiled. Wanda returned his smile.
After some time, Coulson and Howard came to Steve’s office. After everyone settled in, Steve was the first to break the silence. “I think everyone has many questions they need answers. We have to talk to sort it out.” Steve turned to Coulson, “How long have you know I was a vampire?”
Coulson had a small twinkle. Wanda wondered how his eyes held the light even after the incidents that happened an hour ago. He started, “I have known it since I started working here. To say the truth, I am undercover here. I am Phillip J Coulson, Director of S.T.A.K.E. We deal with extraordinary and inexplicable threats.” He added with an apologetic smile, “I think I have raised more questions than the ones I have cleared.”
“What the fuck? Fury is the director” blurted out Pietro.
“That’s just the big picture. Many people forget to look at small picture actually. Director Fury handed the assignment to me last year. Soon after I went undercover, Fury handed me the tool box. Most of the newer recruits don’t know for the anonymity of the mission.”
Steve closed his eyes and exhaled sharply. He cradled his head on his hand and sighed again. Steve had already had his doubts that Pietro is a secret agent since his drunken confession. His closeness with Natasha and him knowing about S.T.A.K.E confirmed that all three belong to the same organisation.
“What’s stake? Why were you undercover?”
“Special Threat Assessment for Known Extranormalities. Fury had his doubts about the vampire involvement in the smuggling practices going on. I thought inside eye will be an added advantage. I took the mission.” He said, the sparkle in his eyes still remaining. “Given the situation, I think it’s best for me to be in open than undercover.”
“Are you saying Steve is involved?” Pietro asked.
“Now I know he isn’t. But I was here to spy on him and others. We have had our doubt that a civil war is brewing between the vampires. If the fight goes on full break then it would be very devastating for the civilians.”
Steve shook his head. “Before we heard Pietro’s dispatch, Natasha was saying Tony is being framed. And she gave me a file.” He extended the file towards Coulson. “I don’t appreciate you spying on me but I think we need to work together”
Coulson got in and flipped through the pages. “Agent May has sent me some valuable information.” He turned to Pietro, “I need the private investigation files from you and Thompson.” Pietro wondered how Coulson might know about it. But Coulson continues on, “Along with that we will have a strong case to save Tony.”
“Natasha hasn’t showed up yet. We need to search her.”
“I wouldn’t worry about her. Being a one of our best, she can take care of herself. It’s Tony I’m concerned about. A group is working to bring him down.”
Steve called Tony to let him know about the attack by Stane. He filled him the information about Rumlow and Stane. He ended the call by asking Tony to stay safe.
After ending the call, Steve turned to others, “Let’s now concentrate on the matter at hand. We know Tony isn’t involved with the smuggling but we need proof to connect Rumlow to it. I hope Natasha comes up with more.”
“We need a counter measure if she is not ready” Howard spoke up.
“What do you propose we do?”
“Sway the neutral one to our side. Jiaying has always been neutral. She has a soft spot for you. If we talk to her before the council, then we will have yours, Natasha and Jiaying’s vote. We can win the hearing even if Rumlow has strong case. Complete sweep. He can’t appeal again.”
“Then I will meet up with Tony. We will head to Fountain of Youth” Steve said getting up. He grabbed his coat and exited.
