Forest in Albania

This fanwork was created by @yubingwang for our 2024 Gothic Fantasy Fest. 

Her chosen fest prompt was the song Slow by Amanati & Roniit. When asked to explain her creative process throughout her participation of the fest, she had this to say:

“When I was composing the art, I noticed the lyrics of the song, Slow by Amanati & Roniit, had lots of connections with spirits and souls, such as “I feel us fully fading”,“pour your spirit down my throat”,“as you breathe into my bones” and so on. This somehow reminds me of Tom Riddle making Horcruxes, concealing his fractured soul. In the painting I depicted Tom Riddle in a forest in Albania. I think the forest can be a great element to convey the gothic theme. To enhance the horror, I chose a dark green tone to emphasize the gloomy and mesmerizing ambience of Slytherin.”

A Few Reminders

For this fest, there is a one claim per prompt policy.

The only exception to this is our Author/Artist’s choice prompt, which we are allowing up to 12 people to claim. However, once those 12 slots are gone, they’re gone.

You must claim your prompt on AO3 first, then, sign-up. Why? The form will ask you for the prompt # of the prompt you claimed.

You may only claim one prompt at this time. Later on, after sign-ups close, and if there are any prompts left, if you happen to submit your fanwork for your first claim before the fest deadline, you may then claim a second prompt. But remember, the Oct. 17th fest deadline will still apply. 🪄

Fest Information

The inspiration to host this fest came out of our desire to see more fanworks in the fandom where the darkness within us all is celebrated, embraced, and reveled in.

The premise for this fest is simple: Create any fanwork (fic or fanart) you like, ensuring that your main protagonist of your work is a Slytherin!

But, and this is where the challenge comes in... your fanwork must incorporate one of the gothic horror prompts that we have provided and must be in the gothic horror genre!

We hope, through participating in this fest, that you’ll allow yourself to indulge in what haunts you most!

Disclaimer:

Due to the darker subject material of the prompts, please be mindful that the process of creating a submission for this fest may be triggering. So, take care of yourself, honor your limits, and enter at your own risk.

Fest Rules

All levels of writers and artists are welcome! Even if this is your first fest!

All pairings and ship types (platonic, couples, and polyships) are allowed in this fest. You may also choose to focus your fanwork on only one character.

Ensure that your main character of your fanwork is a Slytherin (no exceptions)!

Any Slytherin from any of the Wizarding World eras is welcome. You may also choose to headcanon a non-Slytherin character as a Slytherin.

Your fanwork must incorporate one of the 99 gothic horror prompts that we provide. There are 12 additional Author/Artist’s choice prompts, however, those are first come, first serve. So, they will go quick!

Ensure that your fanwork qualifies as gothic horror. Read our full rules at the link listed below for further clarification on this.

The darker your fic the better, as this fest is the perfect opportunity to create some dark, morally gray, and/or dead-dove works!

Authors: there is no maximum word count for your work. But there is a minimum word count of 1,000 words.

Artists: As long as you follow the guidelines above, you may submit any form of fanart you like, including moodboards! However, AI-generated work and commissioned work from other artists may NOT be submitted!

This fest is an Author/Artist Revealed event. Your fanwork will be revealed on the dates listed above. When the fest is over, we will highlight your fanwork across our social media from Oct. 24th - Oct. 30th.

You do not have to be a member of The Writing Heirs of Slytherin Discord to participate in this fest. However, we do recommend joining so that you can be in contact with other Gothic Fantasy Fest participants! It’s also the quickest way to get a hold of the admin team!

Note: Our server has a 21+ age requirement to join, but this fest is open to fic writers and artists of all ages!

Holy mother of god, I just finished All The Wrong Things and I cannot believe (actually i can, lovesbitca8 is a genius) how much I enjoyed going through the “same story” all over again! It felt like a completely new thing! The details added were amazing, the smut was ~chef’s kiss~ from Dracos’s POV, AND (spoiler) QUEENIE KOWALSKI BROKE ME AND BUILT ME BACK UP AGAIN SO FAST.

Gotta share my favorite bit with you, if you haven’t read it yet, don’t read this!:

She cries, this pygmalion doll of mine.

“Why did you do this?”, I whisper against her lips.

“It was the right thing to do,” she says, painting across my skin.

There she is.

Her brown eyes flicker between mine, searching for justice and equality, fighting for herself, fighting for others, fighting for me.

Maybe she’s still in there. I lean into her mouth, wondering if I can breathe her back to life.

I was hesitating on commenting because i didn’t know if would be invested enough but I think I loved this one more than TRTTD, and i can appreciate the two parts better now as a whole, it’s was brilliant! The Writing Heirs of Slytherin is a Slytherin-focused, Harry Potter community of writers. Our mission is to support fan-fiction writers of all skill levels, all genres, and all shipping proclivities in developing their craft as storytellers. We believe that fiction is the perfect place to safely explore ideas and that every story deserves to be told. To us, there is no such thing as a story that is too dark, too weird, or too taboo.

Silver Trio Fest

Silver Trio Fest is dedicated to the main Slytherins in the Lightning Era. Usually, the Silver Trio refers to only Draco, Pansy, and Blaise. However, with our fest, we decided to expand the Silver Trio to include fan-favourite Theodore Nott as well as Vincent Crabbe and Gregory Goyle.

The premise is simple. Create any fanwork (fic or fanart) you like! But! Your main characters and the main ship or pairing in your fanwork must be in the Silver Trio!

The Slytherins you may choose to include in your main pairings are the following: Draco Malfoy Pansy Parkinson Theodore Nott Blaise Zabini Gregory Goyle Vincent Crabbe

Where you take these characters from there is up to you.

The Writing Heirs of Slytherin is a 21+, HP-focused writing community. We are inclusive, pro-ship, POC and queer-owned. We specifically support fan-fiction writers in developing their craft in telling stories that feature Slytherin protagonists.

To kickstart my post-Nano writing, I've set myself a challenge: creating one-shot stories inspired by the least-streamed song from each of Taylor Swift's albums. Since it'll be December when I write these, I will include a winter item/activity of your choice to each one-shot.

I'd love your assistance in selecting pairings and winter item/activity for these prompts. Simply choose a number (corresponding to the album) from the linked document and pair it with a Harry Potter universe relationship. Be sure to include your Ao3 username so I can dedicate it to you! Feel free to suggest multiple pairings. I will begin writing after Nano. Thanks for your help!
