Are the Manderly’s true Northerners? Additionally, we know they brought with them a great deal of wealth, but is it possible they initially struggled with the cultural divide and/or making inroads with the other Northern houses in the years immediately following the Starks gifting them the Wolfsden?

What is a "true Northerner?" Certainly, they live in the North, that makes them Northerners, but is that all that's required to be a "true Northerner?" They pay their taxes and govern their lands in liege to House Stark like the other northern lords - is that what it means to be a "true Northerner?" Or does a "true Northerner" follow the Old Gods? If there are "true Northerners," does that mean there are "false Northerners?" I'm not being flippant - the idea of what is a true member of a group is something that, while often used as a means of dismissal, is actually a very important element of group dynamics.

I imagine there was some level of cultural divide - they follow a different religion after all. But I imagine that since they were invaluable to the Starks and served loyally, eventually they won their neighbors over.

The Manderlys maintaining certain aspects of their Reacher origins makes them no less northerners than me speaking Arabic and wearing a thawb makes me unamerican. That said, I don't think their integration into the northern political community was devoid of any hiccups, feudalism and human nature being what they are.

They do have clear cultural and ethnic differences with most of the other Northern lords by being an originally southron house who worship the Seven with Andal blood, but I don’t think there is a concept of "true Northerners." I mean as long as they answer their lords' summons and provide the taxes and swords from their fief to Winterfell, the Starks effectively see them as Northern.

Moving to a new place is always a hassle, as you need to adjust to your new surroundings in this case going from the warm southern Reach to the cold North with summer snows, and acquainting yourself with your new neighbors.

The other houses might not have been tripping over themselves to offer their children for fostering and marriage, but neither would they have been opposed to it. Building relationships would have taken time, but the wealth of their new fief, controlling the major port in the North and silver mines, would have helped incentivize their acceptance.

HEY‼️ it’s sleepover time bitch. what is my boyf scruggs’ dream life, like where he hopes to see himself in 10 years. does he think he’ll stay in lost, will he travel the democracy more? does he want to get married/settle down? have kids (how many, any preferences, etc)? does he want pets/what kind 👀

i think scruggs would like to travel, but he wouldnt want home base to be too far away from his sisters. maybe somewhere a little colder (he hates the heat so bad ... maybe wolfsden?) but he would want to be able to travel back to lost pretty easily. he got to have a family again and he's not going to waste that opportunity

i think he didn't necessarily know if marriage and kids was something he was ever going to get, but ... he's toying with the idea now. i think he would love to have daughters. i think he would be a good dad to a son but i think he is way more confident raising girls (see: his 7 bio and adopted sisters). probably not,, As big a family as he came from. like 3 kids ideal. i think he likes the dynamics with him and lizzie and kelsey and thinks 3 is a good balance

also he hasn't ever had a pet before but he is such a dog guy. he would love to have a dog. bigger the better

i think the best setup and punchline style joke i have ever done was one time when my friends and I were playing dnd and we went to a place called wolfsden or something and the conversation went basically as follows:

Me: are there any wolves there?

dm: yeah

Me: on a scale of 1-10 how many wolves are there? (if you don't know me irl, this is a question format i use a lot even when i'm serious)

dm: 9

me: woah 9 whole wolves

and for the rest of the session our entire group kept harping on the 9 wolves. every time we saw a wolf or wolf-like creature we'd go "well that's one of 'em Just 8 more!" or something like that.

Doing some Postscriptage. By going back to GoogleEarth Pro and figuring out a good "eye height" to work from, I did some quick reconnaissance of my past stomping grounds and this is what I got:

First, this is the school campus that includes the successor to the school where I attended Kindergarten and most of First Grade. The original building was demolished and a new building replaced it.

This little place is where I lived for the three years that followed. It was relatively close to both my birthplace and my parent's hometowns. It was an okay place to be a little kid.

This is the subdivision neighborhood from the remainder of my grade school years; we took busses to the small towns east of here for school. Go west and you struck sprawl.

Where I spent my teenage and young adult years. Still very scrubby but an eye in the sprawl storm.

Somewhere here is Rather Manor, in the process of passing into history as we speak.

Wolfsden is in here somewhere. No need for me to point to it.

SATURDAY MATINEE MUSIC VIDEO: “Papa Gene’s Blues” live 3/7/08 w/Davy Jones & Peter Tork. Hard to believe it’s been 13 years since that night Peter jumped onstage with us at the Mohegan Sun in Connecticut (I think my Mom was in the front row just to my right). This “Texan samba” was written and sung by Mike Nesmith for the Monkees 1966 debut album. We always had fun playing it, drawing out as many country-cowboy riffs we could. The fidelity of this video is a bit jumpy and rough, but the exuberance of the occasion supersedes technical limitations. Enjoy!

Welcome to Ayathia, the Empire of Stars and Sea.

Ayathia is known for its endless beauty of mountains and access to the sea.

Travellers describe its beauty as, “The empire where the stars always shine bright, even during the day, reflecting in the deep blue seas of the water. The paths are well travelled and defined.” With little to no embellishment, as the stars always seem to shine no matter what time of day it is--this phenomena is an odd one to say the least. 

The story goes that the goddess of the Sun, Atia, had found the lands so beautiful, she blessed them with eternal light so that way, none shall be lost upon entering. Whether this is true or not, Atia is very much highly regarded more than the other gods. It is also believed that she can sometimes be found wandering the lands--do not approach unless she calls to you, for it is rude to do so.

Dragons are also said to live high up in the mountains. Nobody has ever really thought to check, nor do they wish to. They are a sacred being, and should be left alone.

As for climate, they were hot and humid towards the sea, and more mild temperatures closer to the mountains and valleys. Their winters are cool but they don’t see much snow.

The diet is relatively vegetarian and pescatarian. The only times they eat meat are for major holidays and when they have outside, important guests or celebrating the birth or birthday of one of the royalties.

Their national colors are navy blue and silver. Their national animal is a Gryffin. Iyres (or Iyresian) is their mother tongue, and is also the lingua franca. Off their coast, they have three islands.

Animals that can be found there are a variety of fish, horses, some cows, chickens, dogs, gryffins, and cats. They have a wide variety of fruits and vegetables.

The People:

They are quite traditional, adhering to old beliefs and gods--they are religious, but humble in their beliefs. Their way of speaking is much more formal than most others, and they always speak much softer (however, those who live in the capital regard those who live near the mountains as quite loud and boisterous). Socially, however, they are very much more advanced.

The Emperor and Empress socialize among their people, and try to travel about to see and speak to them.

Everyone enjoys a good drink, and they expect visitors to be able to hold their liquor.

They have also helped advanced the rest of the world, with their access to the sea and travelling about. They have the best doctors, as well.

(Zephyr is said to be seen riding around Breadloaf quite often).

Oddly enough, their eyes are of a silver color, and they are quite tall.

Cities To Note:

Wolfsden - A small village located on one of the islands. A friendly people, if not a little strange. They export wine.

Aeredales - The capital as well as the coastal city. This is where they royals reside, and is a major port city as well. Their University is also located here.

Atheleney - Second largest city. They are known for their laidback nature, and enjoyment of partying. They can be found near the mountains. The worlds largest and oldest library is located here.

People To Note:

Zephyr - The offspring of the Emperor and Empress. Quite the friendly fellow, and very much well loved. Whether or not they take their position seriously is up for debate.

Audra - Zephyr’s younger sibling who is regarded as their little sister. She is just as mischevious as they are--eyes sparkling for an adventure. Always wants to follow Zeph around, but is usually stuck in her studies. She’s sweet if not a bit blunt as she is still young.

Alya - The Empress. She is quite kind and wise. She has much more say in what happens than her husband, and is very much a pacifist.

Enlil - The Emperor. He, too, is quite kind and wise. However, his kids take after him: he is quite mischevious as well, always with a joke or prank at hand.

Aeolus - Audra’s twin brother. He is much more studious than she is and takes after their mother.

Ciro  - A sorcerer and right hand man to the Emperor and Empress. An odd one. Breadloaf hates him.
