Once Upon A Midnight: A Nandermo 10th Kingdom Fusion AU
Guillermo de la Cruz is an overworked, underpaid general manager who daydreams about a world more like the one he used to glimpse in the fantasy books and films he loved growing up. Nandor the Relentless is a vampire/werewolf hybrid imprisoned for nearly one hundred years in the dungeons of the Staten Island Vampiric Council.
When their worlds collide, Guillermo finds himself caught up in an adventure beyond his wildest imagination. Thrown into a world where dogs talk, vampires are real, and the big bad wolf plays at being prince charming, Guillermo begins to discover that he, too, is more than he has always seemed.
But in a fairy tale this fractured, the road to happily ever after is bound to have a few bumps.

The 13th Kingdom
By: TalktomeinClexa
Rating: Teen and Up Audiences
Warnings: None
Status: WIP
Summary: Lexa, a half-wolf from the 10th Kingdom, is caught “sheep worrying.” Prince John gives her a choice: to rescue the 13th Kingdom’s princess, Clarke of house Griffin, for him, or to spend years in jail. Caught between the devil and the deep blue sea, Lexa accepts. She sets on a dangerous quest, unaware of the troubles awaiting her, the worst of which could be the cursed princess she is sent to rescue.
***
Chapter 1: It Never Troubles the Wolf How Many the Sheep May Be
One long ear twitched. It perked over the furry head, rotating, listening to the forest. Had a twig snapped? A branch cracked? The predator inhaled too loudly, saliva dribbling down their lower lip, pulled to reveal sharp teeth? Or an intuition older than history, carved into the animal’s DNA? The hare couldn’t comprehend such things. It relied purely on its instinct. And took off between two birches, its scut disappearing behind a protruding root.
Lexa cursed and leaped forward. Her dinner was hopping away! She had been so close. Enough to taste its aroma on her tongue. To imagine her canines sinking into the soft flesh, crushing the bones in one hard bite. She would not go to bed hungry!
The chase woke the wolf in her. The hunt was fun. Sneaking through the forest, sniffing the air to locate potential prey. But nothing beat the rush of adrenaline coursing through her veins, sharpening her senses, turning her green eyes emerald, and elongating her canines. In those moments, Lexa could have taken on the world.
She ran after the hare, her long legs propelling her over the rocks and traitorous roots. Her hair bounced behind her head, held back by a few braids carefully tied together. No wasted gesture, no missed breath. A graceful, beautifully designed predator. Mother Nature’s perfect creation. Until she slammed on the anchors and lost her balance.
“Suck an elf!”

@cloud--atlas replied to your post “@cloud–atlas replied to your post “Just dropping you a message to...”
I have not seen the 10th Kingdom. And the high waistbands aren't even, like, a logical thing? My brain literally just went "Lucky would be a 70s teenager and everything that entails" for NO GODDAMNED REASON. Though I also imagined Clint just... waking up to find a naked man in his bed who doesn't have a tail but WHATS THIS? *grabs dick* And Clint is m o r t i f i e d
Yup, most men who end up naked in Clint’s bed are very much aware of what a dick is and how to use one. :D
The 10th Kingdom is... an experience. It is almost 10 hours (and if you watch the DVD boxset there are No Breaks Between Episodes) long and the first time you see it you just sort of stare unblinking at the screen and think ‘what the fuck am I watching? This is terrible’ until you’re about an hour in, and then it’s more like watching car crash TV - so bad you can’t look away. Then, three hours in, Stockholm Syndrome kicks in... or maybe it’s more like a drug addiction. And you keep watching and you love it unironically, although you are aware that it is terrible and cheesy and over the top and it makes No Goddamn Sense and who the fuck decided that their lead male character was going to say ‘huff puff’ and have semi-erotic vore fantasies about lambs (he’s a human-shaped wolf called Wolf... and his tail is Very Sensitive... I know, believe me, I know). It’s crack. It’s the media form of crack. Anyone I have ever met who has seen it loves it, but they honestly could not tell me why. We all know it’s terrible, but it is also amazing, and we Don’t Know Why. There is a version of we will rock you rewritten to be We Will Shear You because it’s for a shepherdess competition. There is a singing ring. There are mushrooms that sing Whiter Shade of Pale. There are trolls who love shoes. I already mentioned the dog that becomes a prince, right? Just... 10 hours of the weirdest fairytale crackfic you can imagine. I did not mean to write so much about it, but I feel like it needs adequate warning in case you do decide to look it up.

I’m in a bad mood so I’m going to ruin this meme on you...
I’m about to ruin both of these memes in one swoop...
Here we have depicted Blade coming after Edward Cullen.
1. There wouldn’t be much of a fight. We already know Blade would win and he would win easily. Everyone who fantasizes about “the battle” would see it over in twenty seconds and Blade, himself, would likely feel disheartened by it since Edward isn’t actually a threat to anyone (except maybe himself). It wouldn’t be that exciting. It would actually be kind of disappointing. Also do you really want to taint the Marvel universe with the Twilight mythos?
2. Let’s be perfectly honest. Blade wouldn’t kill Edward. Edward used to kill but he hasn’t killed in an extremely long time. He feeds on deer and is mostly harmless. Do you know how many “Vegan vampires” Blade currently tolerates in Marvel comics? There’s Morbius (who still occasionally slips up and accidentally kills, resulting in Blade kicking his ass periodically), Hannibal King (who doesn’t kill at all), and various others he looks the other way for. He’s more likely to tell him (and threaten him) that he’s got his eye on him and will be watching him, and may even show up periodically like an overbearing parole officer, but that’s about it.
3. I’ve seen this argument. “But surely Blade would realize how creepy and predatory it is for Edward to be with an eighteen-year-old! He’s like a hundred! It’s gross!” Exactly how old do you think Blade actually is in the comics? The movies played with the lore. Blade in the comics is an extrovert with an English accent (No, really). He doesn’t say Mother f---ker all the time. And ...he was born in 1929...
His condition has greatly slowed his aging. Blade, himself, has had very young (though consenting adult) love interests. Imagine your ninety-year-old grandfather dating a twenty-one-year-old intern, or eighteen-year-old Van Helsing descendant. It’s weird but not illegal. And Blade’s done that.
Blade could never judge Edward over his relationship. He’s done the same (Just not in a High school. A college, yes, not a High school. I told you, I’d ruin this for you!) Even the creepy stalking... Sorry. It’s a vampire thing... I think it’s instinctual for them, part of the predatory nearly animal-like nature in a constant duality struggle against the human consciousness, predatory instinct vs. Human reason (”I don’t know if I want to date her or eat her!” - Wolf in 10th Kingdom.) I’m not saying it’s necessarily right but Bella is a consenting adult by the time she and Edward consummate their relationship, it’s her body, her choice. Don’t infantilize the protagonist just because you don’t like her or the poorly written story she comes from. It’s a not-so-subtle kind of sexism to diminish any woman’s freedom of choice even if you don’t agree with her choice. And don’t diminish her right to choose out of agism mixed with sexism. She was written by a forty-year-old who used the decisions that she, herself, would have made. So the character doesn’t even really have the psychology of an eighteen-year-old anyway. Pretending she’s real, it’s her choice. It’s fiction, yes, but in that fiction we should respect any woman’s decision even if we think it might be a bad one. It’s fiction and if vampires all dated people their own age they’d be dating trees in the forest. To quote the Emo Vampire song “When you’re six-hundred-years-old there’s no such thing as a cougar.”
The point remains Blade couldn’t kill Edward for something he, himself, has done in his own comics... Marvel even had plans to reveal Blade has a daughter from one of those relationships.
I don’t like Twilight either but your fantasy requires knowing precious little about Blade’s original canon.
I warned you I’d ruin this.

Kurance the 10th Kingdom au, w/ lance as Virginia and Kuron as wolf
Okay, I have never heard of that show, but OMG, the plots and everything sounds adorable! And just…awe, such a Kurance AU. Also because I’ve never seen it, just read the plot of it, sorry if anything is off, I’m running wild and loose (also who the hell do I made Shiro be? Maybe he’s just another ruler of some land. Cause I want Allura to be the prince…)
Also putting it under a cut cause like it long
I image that Hunk and Lance sort of own (or at least mostly run) a little restaurant together, because Hunk is an amazing cook, but Lance takes care of all the managerial stuff cause he is good with people. And it’s like a hidden gem place, not exactly popular, but it’s rather in the green. When everything starts happening in the other word/magic mirror jumping, there is like a loud mess like an alleyway of their restaurant, and when Lance goes to investigate a dog (Allura) just runs right up to him, no collar but too clean to be a stray, so Lance takes the dog in. Like to take to get see if it has a chip in the morning, and if not he just plans to look after her until he finds the owner.
Hunk lets him, because like had can’t say no to Lance…and an actual dog giving him puppy dogs eyes, and if the dog stays out of the kitchen and out the way of their staff. Like there is no harm if the dog just sits in Lance’s office, or behind the hostess desk. And all their regular customers, of course, instantly love the dog any way, which both of them are calling ‘Princess’ cause she is so sweet and proper and like growled at every other name they thought up. And before they know it Princess is just kind of like their dog, and they spoil her a little bit.
Of course, there are still people after Allura, like Lotor’s generals, and prison Haggar freed, Kuron, who’s half wolf (but looks like a person) and way more suited to find a freaking dog in a strange place. And he finds Allura a lot faster than Lotor’s generals, but doesn’t alert them, because like Haggar made like a promise to never bother where ever he is, if he returns Allura by himself, so like he wants that so bad (mostly because I imagine he was in prison of something he did in self-defense or hunger so he just wants to be alone). So Kuron goes to the restaurant Allura is, being like clever hiding under all these smells and noise. And Lance is covering for a sick hostess at the time, so he’s like “Hello and welcome to (name of place), how many are in your party today?” all pleasant and smiling.
Now wolves and half wolves in this AU, sort of have like a love at first sight thing because they mate for life. So they have a moment where they just know they found the one like instantly. In that moment of seeing Lance and hearing him talk, it happens for Kuron. And Kuron, in the biggest gay panic of his life, just turns tail and runs right out the door, and like hides where he can still look in the window and see Lance. Leaving Lance so lost, and like “why are the cute ones weird, Princess.” to the dog beside him, who knows who Kuron is and just sort of whines confused by his reaction.
Eventually, Kuron works up the courage to go back in after a few days, when Lance thankful isn’t working the front, so he gets seated, and figures he’ll just grab Allura and leave, no fuse. But Allura suddenly jumps up in the set opposite of him at the table and starts growling (causing Kuron to growl back), which has Lance running after her and shooing her down and away and apologize to Kuron, who again is have the biggest “oh shit” moment of his life while he talks to Lance, who of course is nice and comments Kuron’s hair and physic, and is just sweet, like Kuron is gone. At the same time Allura maybe gains the ability to talk to Hunk, or I don’t know maybe Hunks wishes like what happen the show, and she tells him everything.
Next thing they know, Hunks and Lance are on an adventure to another fairytale world, along with Kuron. Who maybe lies a little bit to tag along, but Allura does really push him away, cause he read his case and kind of planned to let Kuron go once she had the power to (She also figures Hagger released many other prisoners to go after her.) That at Kuron totally punched on of Lotor’s generals while they were living because they grabbed Lance, so like…maybe he’s okay.
And it’s a whole magical adventure once they get there. And lots of crazy things happen to both Lance and Hunk. And Kuron falls more and more in love with Lance. And Lance does the same, but they never say anything ever to each other. It’s almost getting to the point of Allura and Hunk trying to get them to smash faces, because like come on guys.
They break the spell on Allura and save all the kingdoms. Hunk stays behind to be Allura’s personal chef, and Lance and Kuron get together and travel between the worlds. Living happily ever after together.

Top 14 Favorite Pairings
I don't personally like romance as a genre, but I'm a sucker for a well written romance arc in another genre like sci-fi or fantasy. So in honor of Valentine's Day, I thought I'd post my top 14 favorite relationships. Not all of them are canon, but these are the big ones that I actively ship and seek out content for. These are in no particular order and I'm laying down a blanket spoiler warning for Young Justice, Kingdom Hearts, Red Rising, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Gargoyles, The Great Library, Star Wars: Rebels, Green Lantern: the Animated Series, Check Please, The Song of Achilles, DuckTales, TRON: Uprising, and Voltron: Legendary Defender.
1. SoRiKai (Sora/Riku/Kairi; Kingdom Hearts): Tehcnically not a pairing per se, but Kingdom Hearts was my first fandom and SoKai my first OTP. In recent years I’ve started to see the appeal of SoRiku, but at the same time didn’t want to see SoKai broken up for that to happen. Eventually, I discovered the third option taken by other fandoms of just shipping all three of them together in a polyamorous relationship.
2. Spitfire (Wally West/Artemis Crock; Young Justice): I’ve been obsessed with these two ever since I started watching Young Justice and I refuse to believe that Wally’s not going to come back from the dead at some point during Outsiders. Greg Weisman wouldn’t have been so cagey about explaining what happened to him if they weren’t going to go somewhere with this.
3. Razaya (Razer/Aya; Green Lantern: The Animated Series): Razer and Aya were a pairing that snuck up on me. The kind where you're not actively shipping the characters, but by the time the final episode ends, you're sobbing over them. I really hope that with the successful return of Young Justice, that Green Lantern: The Animated Series can return as well and give us closure on Aya's fate.
4. Rustang (Darrow of Lykos/Virginia au Augustus; Red Rising): The Red Rising saga is one of the best book series of all time and if you haven’t read it yet then you need to because this is amazing. In any case, Darrow and Mustang’s relationship is so beautiful that I can’t imagine him with anyone else. Their dynamic is so beautiful and I desperately hope that they patch things up in Dark Age and that Darrow survives the Iron Gold trilogy because I cannot bear the thought of Darrow dying.
5. Golisa (Goliath/Elisa Maza; Gargoyles): Most romantic couples in fiction I don't actively get invested in. I tend to just quietly watch and see how things go, and then not really think about it much afterwards. But after finishing the second season of Gargoyles, I reached a point where I couldn't talk about the show as a whole without talking about the love story between an manhattan police detective and a Gargoyle from 10th century Scotland. Their first kiss in the last episode and the post-series comics' dealing with the realities of an inter-species romance cemented these two as one of my favorite fictional romances.
6. Chrisanti (Christopher Wolfe/Niccolo Santi; The Great Library): Wolfe and Santi was a relationship I didn’t see coming, both because of the fact that they kept their relationship a secret from the narrator character for most of the book, and because it was the first time I’d ever seen a character’s sexuality being treated so casually. And with each succcessive book in the series, I became more invested in these two. Since the end of the third book, I’ve been holding out hope for them to tie the knot at the end of the series.
7. FitzSimmons (Leo Fitz/Jemma Simmons; Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.): Most of the pairings I ship in a given franchise I only become invested in over several seasons, books, or movies. With FitzSimmons, I was rooting for them from Day one. I have been sailing this ship through every single season and I cried my eyes out when they finally got married in Season 5.
8. Kanera (Kanan Jarrus/Hera Syndulla; Star Wars: Rebels): I started shipping Kanan and Hera around the end of Rebels' first season. I've been quietly rooting for them ever since, and I was absolutely thrilled when they officially got together in Season 4, only to be crushed when Kanan died in the middle of the season.
9. Patrochilles (Patroclus/Achilles; The Song of Achilles): I read The Song of Achilles last December and it was the first time since that summer that a book made me cry. The relationship between Achilles and Patroclus is so beautiful and so tragic that I still cry when I re-read the book.
10. Zimbits (Jack Zimmermann/Eric Bittle Jr.; Check, Please!): I got into Check Please a few months after I realized I was Bisexual. I'd been seeing fan art and meta about it all over my Tumblr feed, so I decided to give it a shot. Aside from Chrisanti, Jack and Bitty were one of the first canon mlm pairings in a comic that I'd read, and there was just so much to love about their relationship and the story in general that I've been a fan ever since.
11. Tuna (Tidus/Yuna; Final Fantasy X): I’d seen clips of Tidus and Yuna long before I actually played Final Fantasy X for myself, so when I finally got the chance to play, my heart melted at how adorable they were together, and I spoiled myself on the ending of X-2 just for the satisfaction of knowing that he came back and they got to have their happy ending together (I refuse to acknowledge the Will audio drama as canon).
12. Scroldie (Scrooge McDuck/Goldie O'Gilt; DuckTales): I was in love with this pairing from the moment Scrooge and Goldie started dancing together in “The Golden Lagoon of White Agony Plains”, and I keep watching all of their scenes together whenever I can.
13. Beige (Beck/Paige; TRON: Uprising): Beck and Paige were a pairing that quietly grew on me over the course of the show’s one season, and even though they broke things off after one date (and before the show could get to a point where she learns Beck’s secret identity as The Renegade), I loved the chemistry they have together and I firmly believe that if the show had continued they would have become a couple.
14. Sheith (Takashi Shirogane/Keith; Voltron: Legendary Defender): I wasn’t really concerned with shipping in the Voltron fandom for most of the series. I thought Hunk and Shay looked cute together, but I didn’t really think much of any of the other pairings. As all the nastiness in the fandom started escalating, I kept myself out of it. I could see things in canon that were vaguely shippy between Keith and Shiro and between Keith and Lance, but I didn’t personally care one way or the other who ended up together romantically. After Season 7, I started to ship Shiro and Keith primarily to spite the antis who had spent the last two years harassing anyone who didn’t ship their OTP, and as Season 8 drew near, I actually started to like the pairing on its own. Season 8 was a low blow because even though the odds of Shiro and Keith actually being an on-screen couple were slim considering how long the crew had to fight to be allowed to acknowledge that Shiro, who was technically an original character, was gay, his and Keith’s dynamic was still the most emotionally impactful part of the story even if you read it as platonic. So when Dreamworks’ cut of Season 8 completely removed any reference to their friendship and then paired Shiro off with a random extra whose name you’ll only know if you watch with subtitles, it stunk of a blatant effort by the higher ups to no homo their relationship because Keith can’t possibly be anything but straight. [/sarcasm] My salt over Season 8 aside, I at least have fanfic to soothe the frustration, and their relationship in the first 7 seasons is still one of my favorite parts of the show.

creator tag meme
rules: It’s time to love yourselves! Choose your 5 favourite works you created in the past year (fics, art, edits, etc!) and link them below to reflect on the amazing things you brought into the world in 2018. Tag as many writers/artists/etc as you want (fan or original!) so we can spread the love and link each other to awesome works!
the sweetest @jediknightrey tagged me for this game and it’s time for little me to sob in pain because I can’t choose faves xD
(I’ll do my three main mediums in separate lists because... yeah xD)
ART:
My Wintersong x Labyrinth crossover with Liesl. Ever since I read the first book early in January I had been dying to do something that could show my love for the movie and the book. At the end of the year I finally got around to work on the sketch I did sometime during inktober and omg it is NOT how I imagined it to look like but I AM PROUD!
My Tana Bach in chibi style. I wanted to try something new and I did so with this. Style and program haha. Really happy with it, even if it didn’t do so well lol
“You leave me breathless” aka steamy Nikolina. THERE IS NOT ENOUGH STEAMY (VISUAL) CONTENT FOR THEM AND I HAD THE NEED TO DO IT AND I DID!! Even if it took me way longer than usual because the lineart was out to get me alskjdalk. I also love how my brain has a go-to colour scheme for them XD
Feysand Sunset. I could hate it and this piece would still hit my activity every day lol. I’m really happy with it because the pose was so damn dynamic and I GOT IT! And the outfits too, and Rhys’ skin+hair. I was so nervous about getting it wrong, even if I used all the refs I could find on the fancast haha. A friend who had no idea of what this is about told me it DID look like he was middle-eastern and I was super happy because I was getting cross-eyed and unsure of everything. Also, I did a fancy background and sparkly dress :D ALL THE SPARKLES
Nikolina Wedding. SIMPLY PUT MY MAGNUS OPUS FOR THESE TWO. I had a concept, I achieved it! I absolutely love it. I had so much fun with the soft aesthetic and painting them. The clothes! I put more work into the details than anyone will notice unless they purchase the biggest print ever. But who careS??? Also, Alina’s hair!! I hit the nail in this piece and IT SHOWS!!!
EDITS:
My Eureka Character Aesthetics series. As unkown as this show is here, I still felt the need to work on something Big for it. I remembered how fun doing this project was for The 10th Kingdom, so I did it for this show too. I miscalculated how many I would have to do aslkda but I still had so much fun with it. It was TOUGH as heck at times to find pics to fit each character’s unique aesthetic and personality but I did it!! I got to the end of it with a series of edits that I’m super happy with. ALSO, the psd I made for it works so well for so many other edits??? I DID A THING!!
This Kileana edit. sure the third book let me down after the amazingness of books 1 and 2 of The Falconer but lately I’ve been in a huge Kiaran x Aileana feels mood and I had to do something for them. Something soft and focusing on that epic vow of Kiaran. EPIC ROMANTIC VOWS?? YES PLEASE!!
This Doraelin edit. Look, I love them, they’re soft and perfect. And I had to do something soft and (near)perfect for them!! Especially since it was a gift! I’m still in awe I did it so well haha. Also, those quotes of theirs are so... foreshadow-y. still offended the foreshadowing was tossed aside ¬.¬
This Lunar Chronicles aesthetic. Basically, LEVELING UP!! I grew so much in my aesthetics/picspams style since I started doing TLC edits, and this is one of my VERY BEST. I love the colours and how the pics work so well together alksdakh
The Five Great Queens (10th Kingdom) series that’s ongoing lol. I’m really happy with the whole project so far. But I’m currently stuck on the next queen and headcanons for her XD
BONUS: Fairytale AU for Kai x Cinder and Steamy Nikolina edit. I LOVE THEM.
WRITING:
She’s Magic. AU where Nikolai and Alina are illustionists/magicians(?). Basically an excuse to have both in a magic au hahaha. Think Celia x Marco from The Night Circus kind of magic romance. (Not that hardcore on the slow burn tho). I had so much fun with it. Y’all have no idea!
This Wolfinia one shot. I’m just really happy I got these two right haha. I love the way Wolf talks to Virginia, so unique and eager and honest :D
Unwrap Me. AU where Doraelin are married and ruling together and are just ACHING for some one-on-one Yulemas celebrations asldja. It’s here mostly because I hadn’t written them in ages and I was really happy with this self-indulgent au xD Plus, Dorian would totes pull that gift stunt ;D
Sappy Smutty Fics Fest. While I was so worn out of writing so much smut I had to Take a Break alskdha I had so much fun with it and the feedback?? I never got so many requests (and so varied!!) for a fic request game. Got quite a few that I’m happy with in it ;) I also still have one for Heartless, but I won’t write it until I reread the book. Hopefully I will in early 2019.
So This is Love. THE CINDERELLA AU FOR NIKOLINA THAT WAS JUST A HALLOWEEN ONE-SHOT AND TURNED INTO A LONG FIC!!! Saints I LOVED writing it. Thinking of this au for them brings me the biggest of grins and writing it did that too as well haha. I just... Nikolina and Cinderella AU, what a better match??? (Maybe a fake-relationship au hmmm)
tagging... @theleiaskywalker @newrcmantlcs @caradocdearborn @akivas @stupidape @williamsherondales @kimseaokjin @kestrel-of-herran @fullofgrief

New from Every Movie Has a Lesson by Don Shanahan: COLUMN: My Top 100 Movies of the 2010s
As a guy who turned 40 this past year, the reality of 2020 sounds like the absolute future, like something out of science fiction. Alas, here we are. 2020 marks the 10th year of Every Movie Has a Lesson. Hundreds of thousands of pageviews and visitors later, what started as a harmless blog and an outlet to flex the creative muscles has turned into something far more connected and viable than I ever imagined.
Ten years ago, this was a hobby to fiddle with in my spare time. I never dreamed of being published in print as I am on Southland Voice or featured on websites with international reach like The Examiner and 25YL. Ten years ago, I would have told you reaching a press level of access to movies was a pipe dream. Here I am today card-carrying credentials from recognized awards-voting critics organizations, including one I helped found, and approval all the way to Rotten Tomatoes. The movies come to me instead of me going to the movies, and it’s a truly amazing and fulfilling blessing. I can’t wait to see what happens in a new decade for Every Movie Has a Lesson. Before we step further in the science fiction era of our times, allow me one more reflection step back.
In my review work, I tend to rate about a dozen five-star movies a year. Creating a “Best of the Decade” list from 2010-2019 means I have over 100 movies receiving my highest score to sort. Trimming or ordering them can be like choosing among your own children. The 100th movie could be a good as #1. I wanted this discerning and massive challenge.
To build a master list, I turned to the Pub Meeple Ranking Engine. I entered a list of just under 200 five-star and high four-star movies and let the hundreds of clickable “versus” matchup permutations slot everything. It’s really a slick tool, and it nailed my results. The cream of the rose to the top, just as they should. I’ve said this before on other lists, but this is more about “best” than “favorites.” Also, I did not include documentaries. Quality edges easy entertainment more often than not. Here are the results with a little commentary here and there in between. Links are posted and all slideshow posters are from IMDb. Enjoy!
MY TOP 100 MOVIES OF THE 2010s
THE 10 BEST:
1. Whiplash
2. Room
3. La La Land
4. Spotlight
5. Her
6. Inception
7. Toy Story 3
8. If Beale Street Could Talk
9. 1917
10. 12 Years a Slave
I knew going into this that it would become a battle between Whiplash and Room for the top spot. When I put those two against everything else, both casually in the Pub Meeple tool, their opponents never win. The fascinating thing for me became where #3-10 would fall and wondering if they would or would not match my annual year-end lists. Sure enough, five of those eight movies (La La Land, Inception, If Beale Street Could Talk, 1917, and 12 Years a Slave) were my #1 picks of their given year and the other three (Spotlight, Her, and Toy Story 3) were #2s. I’m not saying I’m a pillar of consistency, but I’ll pat my integrity on the back for those Top 10 winners. I have no problem personally putting If Beale Street Could Talk over Moonlight, even if Moonlight was the bigger winner and considered historically more important film. Toy Story 3 might be the only animated film in the entire Top 100. I’ll take all the recency bias you want to shovel with 1917. The movie is that damn good, and you’ll see two more 2019 films next.
THE NEXT TEN:
11. The Descendants
12. Brooklyn
13. Searching
14. The Way Way Back
15. Zero Dark Thirty
16. A Monster Calls
17. Jackie
18. Little Women
19. Marriage Story
20. Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World
I love the eclectic mix of these next ten! Two more year-end top picks (The Descendants and Zero Dark Thirty), three second-places (Searching, Jackie, and Little Women), and two super high third-placers (Brooklyn and The Way Way Back) shine here. Like with Barry Jenkins, I’m comfortable having Little Women over Lady Bird (#21) when it comes to Greta Gerwig. The surprise climbers from the ranking tool battles were A Monster Calls and Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World. By these measurements, the latter technically counts as my #1 comic book movie of the decade and I’m completely fine with that, Captain America: The Winter Soldier (#32), Logan (#44), Black Panther (#51), Joker (#56), The Avengers (#81), and Avengers: Infinity War (#100) be damned.
With Room and Spotlight above at #2 and #4 overall and Brooklyn here at #12, 2015 is showing to be my top year of the decade. You’ll find nine more 2015 titles below: Sicario (#30), The Martian (#33), The Big Short (#45), Star Wars: The Force Awakens (#65), Creed (#72), Far From the Madding Crowd (#82), The Revenant (#84), Inside Out (#88), and ‘71 (#94).

(because, damn, that’s a whole bunch of links to dig up under here…)
THE BEST OF THE REST:
21. Lady Bird
22. Moonlight
23. The Social Network
24. Skyfall
25. First Man
26. Wonderstruck
27. Life of Pi
28. Boyhood
29. Selma
30. Sicario
31. A Star is Born
32. Captain America: The Winter Soldier
33. The Martian
34. Gone Girl
35. Short Term 12
36. Flight
37. Silver Linings Playbook
38. Pete’s Dragon
39. The Grand Budapest Hotel
40. Luce
41. Paddington 2
42. Hearts Beat Loud
43. Roma
44. Logan
45. The Big Short
46. The Artist
47. Beautiful Boy
48. The Place Beyond the Pines
49. Phantom Thread
50. 50/50
51. Black Panther
52. War for the Planet of the Apes
53. The Perks of Being a Wallflower
54. Eighth Grade
55. The Farewell
56. Joker
57. Argo
58. Get Out
59. I, Tonya
60. Source Code
61. Parasite
62. Black Swan
63. The Peanut Butter Falcon
64. The Big Sick
65. Star Wars: The Force Awakens
66. Jojo Rabbit
67. Knives Out
68. The Light Between Oceans
69. Midnight in Paris
70. War Horse
71. American Sniper
72. Creed
73. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes
74. Me and Earl and the Dying Girl
75. Clara
76. Booksmart
77. Shame
78. The King’s Speech
79. Manchester By the Sea
80. Moonrise Kingdom
81. The Avengers
82. Far from the Madding Crowd
83. Before Midnight
84. The Revenant
85. Man of Steel
86. Lucky
87. The Florida Project
88. Inside Out
89. Nocturnal Animals
90. Gravity
91. I Kill Giants
92. The Wolf of Wall Street
93. Hugo
94. ’71
95. The Shape of Water
96. Loving Vincent
97. The Great Gatsby
98. Interstellar
99. A Quiet Place
100. Avengers: Infinity War
Go ahead. Take attendance after all that. Plenty of five-star reviewed films still fell off this list, (most notably Lincoln, Carol, The One I Love, Steve Jobs, Birdman, Southside With You, Coming Through the Rye, and Prometheus). The cinephile integrity questions will now start. I can feel it.
There’s not a single Quentin Tarantino or Terence Malick film in sight. The first and only Steven Spielberg movie finally lands at #70 and it’s not Lincoln, Bridge of Spies, orThe Post. Woody Allen (#69) and Clint Eastwood (#71) only appear once. Rip up my movie snob card if you must because it took until the nineties to finally have a Martin Scorese film (The Wolf of Wall Street and Hugo) and a second movie from Christopher Nolan (Interstellar). I’m clearly transitioning to become a new school guy with someone like Damien Chazelle having three films in the Top 25, including #1 and #3. I’m at peace with that. There’s room to love the present and the past.
If anything all of this should demonstrate how deep this decade was for quality. This is all me and to each their own. This is “MY” list, not “THE” list. I’m content to value what I value and grade how I grade. Let the life lessons reign. Pass me the sunglasses GIFs and celebratory drinks!

Valentine Ship Meme
Meme by @thevirdirthara My self-indulgent cross-fandoms post that only I probably care about. But if anyone wants clarification on anything I’m happy to give it in paragraphs. :P
Your favourite non-canon ship? Harper/Trance (Andromeda)
Is there a ship you didn’t like at first but ultimately started shipping? Cas/Meg (Supernatural)
What is the rarest rare pair (that you ship)? Ethan/Claire (Lost)
Name a popular ship you don’t get the appeal of. I can’t really think of any off the bat, even if I don’t ship stuff I can usually still see why others would.
What is your most fluffy + happy ship? Harper/Trance (Andromeda)
What is your most angsty ship? Harper/Tyr (Andromeda)
A non-canon ship that should be canon? Gendry/Arya (Game of Thrones…though kind of already canon-ish?)
Your oldest ship; the one you’ve shipped for the longest time? Harper/Trance (Andromeda)
What ship represents the kind of relationship you’d love to have? S2 Drusilla/Spike
Is there a ship that makes your skin crawl? Not one that I ship.
What is a character you can only imagine in one particular ship? Sherlock Holmes/John Watson
What is your favourite canon ship? Doyle/Cordelia
Name a ship that deserved more content. Faraday/Vasquez
Is there a ship you feel gets undeserved hate in fandom? Cas/Meg (Supernatural)
What is the first ship you had? Harper/Trance (Andromeda) I think
Is there a ship that made you realise something about yourself? Eowyn/Faramir (Lord of the Rings). It made me realize that even after being broken and you think the other person was the one (Aragorn), someone will come and love you even though you are broken because they are broken too.
Is there a type of ship you always go for? Salty and sweet, complete with petnames
Is there a ship the writers have ruined for you? Cas/Dean (Supernatural)
Is there a ship the fandom has ruined for you? Luke/Noah (As the World Turns), though the writers did as well, just fandom did it first
Have you ever created fan created content for a ship? Yes, vids! For Harper/Trance, Doyle/Cordy, Drusilla/Spike, Cas/Meg, Rimmer/Lister
Favourite thing you’ve ever created for a ship? Harper/Trance “Thousand Years”
Is there a ship you’ll never admit you have? No, I’m not ashamed of any of my ships! And the only other fav ship I haven’t mentioned in this is McCoy/Spock (Star Trek) so I’m throwing it in here!
Have you ever started shipping a ship because of the fans? Rodney/John (Stargate Atlantis)
What is one scene you want to see happen for all your ships? The hidden emotions and feelings coming to the surface right before danger
Is there a ship you wish you didn’t know existed? Um, Wincest?
Name a ship that ended like you wanted it to. Wolf/Virginia (10th Kingdom)
Name a ship that deserved better in the end. All of them! Drusilla/Spike (Buffy)
Is there a character you have several ships for? Harper (Andromeda)
What is the ship you ignore 98% of canon for? Remus Lupin/Severus Snape (Harry Potter)
Is there a ship you like but you dislike the fandom? Bruce Banner/Tony Stark (Avengers)

NAME : – NICKNAME : lydia FACECLAIM : Kitty Pryde (watxm version) PRONOUNS : she/her HEIGHT : 5′6/7 i cant remember BIRTHDAY : Feb 25 AESTHETIC : Flannel shirts, fingerless gloves, army of cats, constant cups of tea, chokers, pencil glitter eyeliner, ...circus stuff?? idk man im sitting next to a carousel horse rn, so yeah, circus stuff LAST SONG YOU LISTENED TO : Can You Feel My Heart - Bring Me To The Horizon - Lance muse playlist ftw FAVORITE MUSE (S) YOU’VE WRITTEN : Lance, Clopin Trouillefou, Wolf (10th Kingdom), Marianne (Strange Magic)
GETTING TO KNOW THE ACCOUNT :
WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO TAKE ON THIS MUSE : God, I can’t even remember the first time around. But I adored being able to create so much of his character because Lance wasn’t onscreen too much during the show - and really being able to make him my own. I’ve never had anything quite like it that I’ve felt so comfortable with before. WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE ASPECTS OF YOUR CURRENT MUSE : He’s got that totally cliche ‘bad boy’ image going on and yeah, is sometimes a complete dick, but he is one of the most affectionate + protective muses I’ve ever had. Honestly. If he trusts you, or starts to care about you then you’re pretty much one of the most important people in his life??? WHAT’S YOUR BIGGEST INSPIRATION WHEN IT COMES TO WRITING : I love Lance Alvers??? and all of my threads, I couldn’t even imagine dropping a single one of them, which really drives me to answer them as much as I can. FAVORITE TYPES OF THREADS : Honestly, I’m terrible. I love everything. Fluff, Angst, crack, general, fighting threads (though I take longer with those) I love them all!! BIGGEST STRUGGLE IN REGARDS TO YOUR CURRENT MUSE : I struggle because I know for some threads I feel I make him too soft he is an asshole and a lot of muses that interact with him don’t see that as much because we haven’t plotted any obstacles because really? If you don’t share the same view as him it can get ugly. It’s why you’ll see him act a lot harsher with Pietro because we plot out more obstacles which help show Lance’s character a little better. He can be pretty emotionally manipulative but I don’t write it much out of fear of sort of ‘godmodding’ too. Other than that? Just the draft count man XD

10th Kingdom
10th Kingdom
Synopsis : A father and daughter are caught in a parallel universe where the great Queens Snow White, Cinderella, and Riding Hood III have had their kingdoms fragmented by warring trolls, giants, and goblins.
Seasons : Miniseries
Episodes : 10
My Thoughts : I love it when shows do a re-imagining or different take on classic fairytales. Some do it better than others, but this one is very succinct and to the point and I love it. They put the big bad wolf in freaking therapy for goodness sake.

I mentioned in another post recently (actually, maybe this is going up first, so maybe I will mention in another post... I've been writing and scheduling in so many posts - for me - that I don't honestly know!) that I have a goal of featuring more books more often, and in more ways, as a general rule on this blog. One of those ways -- and let me know if you like this idea -- is to do a monthly post highlighting some of the books that are coming out that month, that would be my top picks if someone handed me a bookstore gift card and said, "Go crazy." So here are my picks for April. Some are already out, and some will be out very soon. A couple of these are either on my shelves, or will be featured in some other way around these parts very soon. (Ahem, giveaway of one of these coming soon and/or possibly already up, depending on when you're reading this, and when I've scheduled things for! See note above... ;D) Take a look, let me know what you think, and if I've missed any April, 2018 releases that I DEFINITELY need to have, please tell me in the comments! And of course, each cover is >clickable< so you can find out more or pick a copy up! This is in my TBR for this month!
A captivating novel about two extraordinary teens, and the unsolvable problem of life after high school. Sophia is smart, like genius-calculator-brain smart. But there are some things no amount of genius can prepare you for, and the messiness of real life is one of them. When everything she knows is falling apart, how can she crack the puzzle of what to do with her life? Joshua spends his time honing magic tricks and planning how to win Sophia’s heart. But when your best trick is making schoolwork disappear, how do you possibly romance a genius? In life and love, timing is everything. Published April 1st 2018 by Peachtree Publishers
I mean... everyone's buzzing about this.
Jane McKeene was born two days before the dead began to walk the battlefields of Gettysburg and Chancellorsville—derailing the War Between the States and changing America forever. In this new nation, safety for all depends on the work of a few, and laws like the Native and Negro Reeducation Act require certain children attend combat schools to learn to put down the dead. But there are also opportunities—and Jane is studying to become an Attendant, trained in both weaponry and etiquette to protect the well-to-do. It’s a chance for a better life for Negro girls like Jane. After all, not even being the daughter of a wealthy white Southern woman could save her from society’s expectations. But that’s not a life Jane wants. Almost finished with her education at Miss Preston’s School of Combat in Baltimore, Jane is set on returning to her Kentucky home and doesn’t pay much mind to the politics of the eastern cities, with their talk of returning America to the glory of its days before the dead rose. But when families around Baltimore County begin to go missing, Jane is caught in the middle of a conspiracy, one that finds her in a desperate fight for her life against some powerful enemies. And the restless dead, it would seem, are the least of her problems. Published April 3rd 2018 by Balzer + Bray
I was a big fan of McCarthy's You Were Here.
Fandom and first love collide for Iris on the film set for her grandmother’s famous high-fantasy triology—perfect for readers of Fangirl! Unlike the rest of the world, Iris doesn't care about the famous high-fantasy Elementia books written by M. E. Thorne. So it's just a little annoying that M. E. Thorne is her grandmother—and that Iris has to deal with the trilogy's crazy fans. When Iris gets dropped in Ireland for the movie adaptation, she sees her opportunity: if she can shut down production, the Elementia craze won't grow any bigger, and she can finally have a normal life. Not even the rascally-cute actor Eamon O'Brien can get in her way. But the crew's passion is contagious, and as Iris begins to find herself in the very world she has avoided her whole life, she realizes that this movie might just be amazing… Published April 3rd 2018 by Sourcebooks Fire

Two very different girls, and one giant hoax that could change – or ruin – everything. Harriet Price has the perfect life: she's a prefect at Rosemead Grammar, she lives in a mansion, and her gorgeous girlfriend is a future prime minister. So when she risks it all by creating a hoax to expose the school's many problems – with help from notorious bad-girl Will Everheart, no less – Harriet tells herself it's because she's seeking justice. And definitely not because she finds Will oddly fascinating. But as Will and Harriet's campaign heats up, it gets harder for them to remain sworn enemies – and to avoid being caught. As tensions burn throughout the school, how far will they go to keep their mission – and their feelings for each other – a secret? Published April 2nd 2018 by Hardie Grant Egmont
I don't know that I've ever come across a more unique-sounding book.
In an alternate reality a lot like our world, every person’s physical size is directly proportional to their wealth. The poorest of the poor are the size of rats, and billionaires are the size of skyscrapers. Warner and his sister Prayer are destitute—and tiny. Their size is not just demeaning, but dangerous: day and night they face mortal dangers that bigger richer people don’t ever have to think about, from being mauled by cats to their house getting stepped on. There are no cars or phones built small enough for them, or schools or hospitals, for that matter—there’s no point, when no one that little has any purchasing power, and when salaried doctors and teachers would never fit in buildings so small. Warner and Prayer know their only hope is to scale up, but how can two littlepoors survive in a world built against them? A brilliant, warm, funny trip, unlike anything else out there, and a social novel for our time in the tradition of 1984 or Invisible Man. Inequality is made intensely visceral by an adventure and tragedy both hilarious and heartbreaking. Published April 3rd 2018 by Amulet Books
Welp. I need it.
The ancient land of Éirinn is mired in war. Ciara, Princess of Mide, has never known a time when Éirinn’s kingdoms were not battling for power, or Northmen were not plundering their shores. The people of Mide have thankfully always been safe because of Ciara’s unearthly ability to control her enemies’ minds and actions. But lately, a mysterious crow has been appearing to Ciara, whispering warnings of an even darker threat. Although her clansmen dismiss her visions as pagan nonsense, Ciara fears this coming evil will destroy not just Éirinn, but the entire world. Then the crow leads Ciara to Leif, a young Northman leader. Leif should be Ciara’s enemy, but when Ciara discovers that he, too, shares her prophetic visions, she knows he’s something more. Leif is mounting an impressive army, and with Ciara’s strength in battle the two might have a chance to save their world. With evil rising around them, they’ll do what it takes to defend the land they love…even if it means making the greatest sacrifice of all. Published April 10th 2018 by HarperTeen
Sometimes I just really crave romances that are fraught with tension and obstacles and SO MUCH HEADBUTTING.
A teen werewolf finally meets her destined soulmate only to discover that he's not quite what she expected in this steamy debut romance. She's met her mate . . . and he's met his match. Megan Ross has been waiting her whole life for her mate to come and sweep her off her feet. But the wolf she meets on the beach is NOT the sweet gentle boy she's been dreaming of. Instead, he's a warrior, one whose suffering has led him to lock his heart away in a prison as cold and hard as a diamond, who fights to resist the bond and their deep sexual attraction. Far from home, with a soulmate who is still a stranger, Megan learns that the path to true love isn't quite as straight and easy as she thought . . . Published April 10th 2018 by Swoon Reads
Spare, windswept, western -- these words didn't make it into my buzzwords list. But they should have.
Ten years ago, a horrifying disease began spreading across the West Texas desert. Infected people—shakes—attacked the living and created havoc and destruction. No one has ever survived the infection. Daisy Wilcox, known as Willie, has been protecting her siblings within the relatively safe walls of Glory, Texas. When Willie’s good-for-nothing father steals a fortune from one of the most dangerous shake-hunters in town, she finds herself on the hook for his debt. With two hunters, including the gruff and handsome Ben, to accompany her, she sets out across the desert in search of her father. But the desert is not kind to travelers, and not everyone will pass through alive. Western meets horror for this riveting story about survival, family, and inner strength. Tense, short chapters propel readers from one action-packed scene to the next, while Willie’s distinctive, introspective voice deepens the emotional stakes with every turn of the page. High concept and character-driven, Emma Berquist’s debut will satisfy fans of The Magnificent Seven, Rae Carson’s Walk on Earth a Stranger, and HBO’s Westworld. Published April 10th 2018 by Greenwillow
Psst! You can enter to win this!
Fourteen-year-old Avery Armisted is athletic, rich, and pretty. Sixteen-year-old Kayla Butts is known as “butt-girl” at school. The two girls were friends as little kids, but that’s ancient history now. So it’s a huge surprise when Avery’s father offers to bring Kayla along on a summer trip to Spain. Avery is horrified that her father thinks he can choose her friends—and make her miss soccer camp. Kayla struggles just to imagine leaving the confines of her small town. But in Spain, the two uncover a secret their families had hidden from both of them their entire lives. Maybe the girls can put aside their differences and work through it together. Or maybe the lies and betrayal will only push them—and their families—farther apart. Published April 10th 2018 by Simon Schuster Books for Young Readers
I am just so. damn. fascinated. by everything about this.
How do you live after death? Julie Nolan is a pretty average girl with pretty average problems. She’s been in love with her best friend, Lorelei, ever since they met in grade three. Only Lorelei doesn’t know about it — she’s too busy trying to set Julie up with Henry, her ex, who Julie finds, in a word, vapid. But life gets more complicated when Julie comes home to find her mother insisting that her heart is gone. Pretty soon it becomes clear: Julie’s mom believes that she has died. How is Julie supposed to navigate her first year of high school now, while she’s making midnight trips to the graveyard to cover her mother with dirt, lay flowers and make up eulogies? And why is Henry the only person Julie feels comfortable turning to? If she wants to get through this, Julie’s going to have to find the strength she never knew she had, and to learn how to listen to both her mom’s heart and her own. Kit Learmonth would rather die than grow up and leave Neverland … When she was twelve, Kit Learmonth watched her parents drown in a storm as their boat sailed over the Tranter Sink Hole. Now seventeen, Kit doesn’t remember the incident, and she doesn’t want to. In fact, her only clear memories from before her parents’ death are of the fantastical stories of pirates and mermaids that she and her dad invented about the small island where she grew up, a place she calls Neverland. Following Kit’s parents’ deaths, her uncle and guardian, Doc, transformed the island into a boarding school for mentally ill teenagers and sent Kit away to school on the mainland. But when Kit tries and fails to end her life, Doc brings her home to the island and places her in the care of his colleague, Dr Hannah Ward. Resisting her treatment, Kit instead pulls her friends deeper into her world of make-believe. Am I the only one getting serious dark fairy tale retelling vibes from this?
Theodosia was six when her country was invaded and her mother, the Queen of Flame and Fury, was murdered before her eyes. Ten years later, Theo has learned to survive under the relentless abuse of the Kaiser and his court as the ridiculed “Ash Princess.” Pretending to be empty-headed and naive when she's not enduring brutal whippings, she pushes down all other thoughts but one: Keep the Kaiser happy and he will keep you safe. When the Kaiser forces her to execute her last hope of rescue, Theo can't keep her feelings and memories pushed down any longer. She vows revenge, throwing herself into a plot to seduce and murder the Kaiser's warrior son with the help of a group of magically gifted and volatile rebels. But Theo doesn't expect to develop feelings for the Prinz. Or for her rebel allies to challenge her friendship with the one person who's been kind to her throughout the last hopeless decade: her heart's sister, Cress. Cornered into impossible choices and unable to trust even those who are on her side, Theo will have to decide how far she's willing to go to save her people and how much of herself she's willing to sacrifice to become queen. Expected publication: April 24th 2018 by Delacorte Books for Young Readers
