Snapshot: Chapter 14
(A/N:

“Who are you?!”, Mack cried, pocket knife unsheathed.
Polaris stood in shock. Just seconds ago there was no one here, now there were two people sitting in her base camp, and one was threatening to kill her. “I’m not gonna hurt either of you,” Polaris said, holding both of her hands up in the air. “I should be asking you two the same thing, to be honest…” Sammie unzipped her sleeping bag, confused. “Um,” she hastily said, “We’re members of the Rescue Corps.”
“Well, you should’ve started with that!”, Polaris replied, excitement in her eyes. “Make yourself at home, you two! I have some rations that I could spare.”
“We’re good,” Mack said, sheathing his knife . “Yeah,” Sammie added, “We’ve already eaten. Thanks for the offer, though.” She nervously smiled, trying to make a good impression on Polaris. “Wait,” Polaris said, “Why are you two here, anyways? Shouldn’t you be with the rest of the Corps?” “That’s the problem,” Mack growled. “We got separated because the ship crashed.” “Oh, that's horrible!”, Polaris said, sitting down next to Mack. “What happened?” “Asteroid,” Sammie explained. “It was a head-on collision.” “And now, we’re the ones needing rescuing. Just my luck,” Mack grumbled. “Hey,” Sammie consoled. “It’s not your fault. No one saw the asteroid coming.” “Yes it is!”, Mack yelled, suddenly furious. “I saw it before anyone else did. If I would’ve said something, we wouldn’t be in the situation we’re in now!” “It’s not like we could’ve done anything to begin with,” Sammie interjected. “The ship couldn't have made it out of the way in time. We would’ve crashed regardless!” “Yeah, but if I said something, there would’ve been a chance! I don’t care what anyone says, this is all my fault!”, Mack shouted, his fists clenched. “Why won't you just listen to me?!” Sammie yelled, tears streaming down her face. “You can’t blame yourself for everything!” “Yes I can!” Mack shouted, standing directly in front of Sammie. “I’m the reason the ship crashed, I’m the reason you twisted your ankle, and I nearly got you killed!” His patience was getting thinner and thinner, and Polaris could see it in his eyes. “Stop it, you two…”, she muttered. Her efforts were worthless, because neither of the two of them listened to her. “First off,” Sammie hissed, “You’re too close.” “Does it look like I care?!” Mack screamed. “You act like you’re the boss of me, even though this is your first mission!” Mack was inches away from Sammie’s helmet touching his. “Let's get this straight. I have more experience than you, and that makes me your superior. Got it!?” Sammie was furious now. “Just because you have more experience than I do,” she hissed, “Doesn’t give you the right to scream at me when I’m just trying to help you.” “I DON’T NEED HELP FROM A ROOKIE!” Mack screamed, shoving Sammie. “WHAT WAS THAT FOR?!” Sammie yelled, shoving Mack back.
“ENOUGH!”, Polaris shouted.
“Why are you two fighting to begin with?!” she cried. “Arguing isn’t going to get either of you nowhere.” At that moment, the area was dead silent. Sammie, and Mack stared at the young girl in shock. “You two just need to agree to disagree, and find the rest of your crew,” Polaris grumbled. She sighed, regaining her composure. Sammie nodded. “You’re right. Who’s to blame is the least of our problems,” she said. “We need to find the rest of the crew, and point fingers later.” “Whatever,” Mack grumbled. “Good,” Polaris said, “You’ve made up!” “You sure changed your tune quickly,” Mack said. “Oh, yeah,” Polaris said. “Sorry for that outburst. It’s just I can’t stand to see people fighting…” Sammie nodded. “Same,” she replied. “Sorry for sayin’ anything, Mack.” She extended a hand out to Mack. “Yeah,” Mack replied, “My bad for getting so heated.” The two of them shook hands, and softly smiled at each other. “Yay!”, Polaris exclaimed, popping up behind them, “You're friends again!” “Oi!”, Mack shouted, swiftly turning around to face Polaris. “What was that for?!” “Whoops,” Polaris mumbled, stepping back. “My bad.” Sammie sighed. “Just…Never scare either of us like that again,‘kay?”, Sammie asked Polaris. Polaris nodded. “We should get some rest,” Mack said, yawning. “Arguing’s more tiring than I thought.” “Wait,” Polaris said. “Wanna go exploring with me tomorrow? We could cover a lot more ground than the three of us separate.” “Eh,” Mack said. “It’s not like me and Sammie were gonna cover that much ground by ourselves. Plus, I could use the company. What about you, Sammie?” “Fine by me,” Sammie agreed. “Okay,” Polaris declared, “From here on out, we’re traveling together!” Sammie yawned. “Well, I’m tired. I’m hittin’ the sack,” she mumbled. “Good night!”, Polaris said “Alright,” Sammie said, getting back into her sleeping bag, “Good night, you two.” “Night,” Mack said.
The second day had passed.
