going through your recent posts and am now thinking about Luminous Beings again (thats a lie. LB is always on my mind, it never stops. Thank you for the brainrot)

LB3 gave us a look at Ava's relationship with touch in regards to her psychometry, but now I'm wondering about Bea's relationship with touch (both via skin contact and the force) in regards to her shatter point ability. What are your thoughts?

i definitely think that luminous beings is a little bit about touch. certainly for beatrice she’s living in a world where most people are afraid to touch her, and then there’s crimson, and then there’s lilith.

getting absolutely hate-crimed by chapter 2 again but i had to look at the moment where lilith & beatrice first make contact - how crimson touches her through gloves and lilith peels hers off and touches with bare hands, & of course there’s an intimate bealil scene in chapter 4 that i think epitomises what touch means between them, specifically.

lilith with her healing powers and how her body - the skin-to-skin of their wild and tender and violent love - acts as a sort of anesthetic. how beatrice seeks her out each night because the pain always wants to keep her from sleep, & she only ever dreams when she’s tangled around lilith because the pain can’t reach her.

she’s very tactile, but only with lilith, & the fact that they are perpetually wrapped around each other in bed is a kind of metaphor for how they are surviving out in the world as inquisitors. doing vile things together, smearing each other’s hands with blood so the violence is shared, at least, so they can fail to forgive each other instead of looking at everything they cannot forgive themselves for.

& i think that beatrice at this point doesn’t know that she’s capable of shatterpoint - or, in fact, she isn’t yet capable of it because she’s still looking away from everything. eyes fixed on the only point of brightness she has, which is itself a small dark star. lilith is what she clings to, but what they have is harsh and when they’re not touching they’re doing terrible things.

but touch sort of lies at the center of everything with beatrice in luminous beings (in general, i think, beatrice is, in every iteration of herself, someone who is desperately trying not to reach out. she’s tactile and trapped in her own skin, and ava guides her out).

her elbow is definitely at the heart of shatterpoint’s iteration in luminous beings. it’s this fault-line that runs through her whole body; a foci that forces her every movement to orbit around the potential for pain. & i think growing to understand how she is shattered lends her this insight into other things.

the tavern fight in ch 2 showed how she thinks; always seeking out a single point that will unravel everything around it. there is a scene a few chapters away i have planned where shatterpoint becomes suddenly and catastrophically apparent to beatrice, & i think, strangely, the process of learning how the world is, itself, infinitesimally broken in infinitesimal ways (and how the propagation of these cracks unravels things, people, democracies) THAT is what pulls beatrice back towards herself, towards hope & the light

My headcanon is that Ava calls it a “craphole” because she knows Beatrice will tell her not to call it “a craphole” and Ava loves making straightedged, eloquent Sister Beatrice curse. Ava loves their little apartment, Beatrice knows this, so Beatrice defending their little home when Ava is complaining about it is her way of assuring Ava that she loves it too. It’s a roundabout way for Beatrice to tell Ava “this is our home” without having so directly say it.

see some people not liking/disagreeing w the bedroom scene script that simon released particularly how ava thought their apartment sucked which is actually so funny to me bec i feel like it's just such an ava thing to say? she's a little shit wbk okay but maybe it's not even that she completely hated it, maybe it's more along the lines of "this apartment is a craphole (affectionate)" you know what i mean?

I think a lot of people interpret wen nings agreeableness as him being meek and shy which I do think is partly true but he's also just like. an incredibly patient dude. he's very understanding and compassionate and I think a lot of the time when he's not shown to fight back, esp w wei wuxian, it's less because he's scared and more because he just gets it
