since Countess Rosalia is only her last name, i sorta wonder what people think Penelope’s older sister’s name would’ve been had she’d been given a bigger role in the story.
personally after finding out abt this from lithi, i’ve mainly headcanoned her name as Andromeda Rosalia/Judith due to the name meaning “leader of humankind”, and it is also the name of a character in greek myths just like Penelope. though, i don’t feel set on the name since i don’t think it entirely suits her, plus i’m not very familiar her namesake other than her parents trying to sacrifice her to appease Poseidon. i do like the idea of naming her after a character from greek mythology since it’s a nice connection to Penelope lol. what do you guys hc her name to be?

I drew her, THE Auntie
(Throws Rosalia breadcrumbs at the pigeons that are my wmmap moots) Here ye! Here ye!
Tumblr media
Some headcanons
-Her hair is a darker shade of brown compared to Penelope and her eyes are a dark brown almost black
-She's less flashy than her sister and is much more serious when it comes to her ambitions. While Penelope was the type to set her sights high and race towards it, Rosalia carefully planned each of her steps.
-She tended to project her personal ideal relationship onto Jen and Kiel. Mainly that Jen would be the assertive bread-winning wife and Kiel would be a submissive supporting husband. Isolating Jen was her way of trying to toughen her up.
-Despite her namesake, Rosalia doesn't actually like roses that much because she sees them as "fussy plants". She's the type of women who likes straight-forward and simple things.

Oh we are hating on the wmmap novels today? I found Athy (Lee Jihye) to be oddly mean in the novels. There were multiple instances where Jennette was uncomfortable, sad, being targeted or about to be embarrassed and Athy aknowledges she could have helped her but chose not to. If I remember correctly once at the tea party the girls were trying to get under her skin because of her relationship with Ijekiel and how it would have been sorta incest even though cousin marriage is legal in Obelia (nevermind that they are only pretending to be second cousins and all nobles are distantly related anyway) and it was very apparent these girls were just trying to prick her with their words but Athy leaned back and watched without intervening with the excuse that Jennette has to learn how to defend herself.
There was also a Jennette/Ijekiel date scene where Jennette was stuck with her heel somewhere and Athy thinks to herself how Jennette would have to take off her shoes in public and would embarass herself. She thinks how she could have easily helped her with magic but instead she hides and watches (thankfully Ijekiel kneels down and helps her.) These are such small and subtle scenes but piled up they paint a much meaner picture of Athy. When you know you have the power to help a friend and it would cost you absolutely nothing, wouldn't even be more than a sentence or the flick of a hand but you instead chose to watch them embarass themselves then you are a dick. It also makes wmmap Athy a hypocrite for getting mad about the girls in The Lovely Princess talking shit about the og Athy when in her current universe there's a girl in a similar position and she prefers to be a spectator rather then giving her a helping hand. I think Athy secretly likes it when Jennette is unhappy and Jennette becoming something pitiful in her eyes is the only way she can love her because that way she doesn't feel threatened in her position and can feel better about herself when she choses to comfort her. Athy feels jealous over the smallest good things that are happening in Jennette's life that weren't there because of her.

crazy idea but what if Jennette was originally named Athanasia (makes sense since she was the only child of Anastacius and her mother wanted her to become empress), but the Alpheus changed her name to her alias when Athy was born, because two princesses existing with the same name was unthinkable? Not only would it throw an unfavourable light onto Jennette if she interrupted Athy's debutante ball by stealing the attention of Athy's father along with her own name, it would also give away their plan to put Jennette on the throne too early. It would make Jennette look like the villainess from the start.
If instead they gave her an ordinary name, it would turn her into an underdog in the eyes of society, just like her own "father". It is a clever way for her to profit off his fame by introducing herself with a name that is not traditionally associated with royality and by that naturally carries a positive connotation to the savior of the nation who also happened to be an illegitimate child that was only half-royal. Jennette, who was an orphan raised outside the palace walls and had neither the royal name nor magic, would become someone the common folk could relate to and would want to see succeed. And if Jennette made herself an image as Claude 2.0. come again, it would be so much easier to cast Athanasia as an Anastacius 2.0., the villain of the story, someone who would poison their own sibling out of jealousy even though they were first in line for the throne anyway. Everybody was so quick to pass judgement because they had seen the exact same story play out in front of their eyes before.
Rosalia planned to get rid of Athy, because it was the only way Jennette for to reclaim the name that was meant for the heir apparent. Traditions might have prevented Jennette from becoming Empress just because she didn't possess the name of a ruler and another one bearing the name was still alive.

maybe if we genderbend them...or is it the parental incest trauma
Medraut and Lleu could pull off The Lovely Princess, but could Athy and Jennette pull off The Winter Prince?
I don't think lp!Athyette could. Lp! Athy is too meek and has little to no power over Jennette(which is a no go if she's supposed to be Medraut's stand in)
Wmmap Athyette may be able to if Athy is paranoid enough.
Medlleu to me starts out as, normal brother love on Lleu's side and complicated feelings on Medraut's, those feelings fester and spread to Lleu eventually ruining him, he in turn lashes out at Medraut who also fights back, viscious cycle go!
In a perfect world where Athy is more active in the plot she'd personally meet up with Jennette, when she's still young and lonely, and keep her under her wing. Watching over her, making sure the bud doesn't grow too far which then leads into obsessive surveillance and perhaps even stalking, she needs total control over the situation and justify's it by saying Jennette is naive and it's to keep her safe.
Jennette meanwhile is happy to have someone so close to her all the time and doesn't realize she's being trapped and left vulnerable in an unknown place(the palace) She wants to know everything about her sister-cousin, she's the only one to cling to.
She already knows her favorite food, her favorite color, her favorite flower, her work schedule, where she goes for lunch, her handwriting, etc, so when she finds out she's been secretly meeting up with not one, but TWO men(one of which was her fiance and brother-cousin) she'd explode with rage and accidentally unleash her magic making it a spectacle for all to see.
She'd retreat in fear afterwards and feel so utterly hurt and betrayed when she finds out Athy has known things about that as well, how could she keep secrets about her own body! (many, many parallels as you can see :3)
She'd lash back with tears and accuse Athy of many things, she'd pretend to act distant which panicks the princess as Jennette may be the reason for her greif but also her most powerful weapon. Her existence is proof God has forsaken her, and yet that same girl will give her salvation one day. So she bends to her whims and stays by her side, alone, for long periods of time. Jennette treats her better than anyone ever has after all, perhaps it was worth it for her smile, her hugs and kisses...
I think they could pull it off but perhaps it wouldn't be as weighty as the contexts and motives are different. Still would love to see an au where Athy is more like Medraut though.

In the version of the manhwa, Lovely Princess was written from Athy's point of view, right??" I seem to remember that there was a chapter where she talked to Lucas about this and Lucas told her that she unconsciously created the novel with her magic.
So this means that if everything we know about Lovely Princess was written from Athy's point of view that means that Athy knew that jennette was not claude's daughter and that she was actually created with black magic by anastacious and penelope??
if that's true that means Athy knew everyone was faking around her but she still never used that information against jennette or roger or anyone else, right??
It's just that Lp athy reminds me a lot of Conan's song 😭 "I was a kid but I wasn't clueless"
Honestly, I find this manhwa plot point a little confusing haha.
Supposedly, TLP's novel (the in-universe book) is written mainly from Jennette's POV, but the manhwa later revealed that the novel itself never existed, and it was the way in which Athy remembered her first life. That explains why the novel ended in a happily ever after, when we know that wasn't the real ending (everyone died lol). Athy thought that Claude and Jennette would be happy forever after her death, so that's why the novel ends like that.
This implies that LP!Athy knew almost everything, that Jennette wasn't her real sister, that she had black magic, etc. Her discovering who was Jennette's true father sounds difficult but not impossible, but I wonder how could Athy know the black magic shenanigans, or Countess Rosalia's plan to frame her. There are some things that she shouldn't be able to know. I guess you can attribute that knowledge to a post-mortem vision, like how she dreamed about LP!Claude's death in WMMAP, but it's still a little weird.
But yeah, if LP!Athy really knew most of the truth as this plot point implies, then yes, she never used that information against anyone. I can see her discovering it at some point after Jennette came to the palace but keeping quiet, because Athy cared about Claude's happiness more than anything else. Both manhwa and novel state that she would have gladly drank Jennette's poisoned cup herself, because (at least from her point of view) Claude would be incredibly sad if Jennette died. She would have died for Claude's happiness.
Athy is self-sacrificial to a fault, and that retroactively makes LP's timeline even more heartbreaking.

Cuckoo imagery and symbolism!
What if Jennette was brought up and passed off as countess Rosalia's daughter instead of the ward of duke Alpheus?
Since countess Rosalia is married, I'm surprised we have no mention or even hint of a child or cousin to Jennette (for the life of me I cannot remember for sure if Ijekiel is distant cousin to Jen or not but he doesn't count here sshhh)
But what if an AU where countess Rosalia DID give birth to a child roughly around the same time as her sister does. Once Penelope passed away due to childbirth complications, Rosalia adopted the newborn baby as the "twin" of her own newborn.
Countess Rosalia gave birth to a boy but plot twist: he had albinism. His appearance is a mixture of his parents with the only exception being his white hair and red eyes.
This sets off a truly fun (not fun for those involved) situation.
We have a boy, the eldest son who doesn't look or feel like he is a member of the family, who stands out next to his dark hair/brunette with blue and/or green eyes family despite being the legit full blood born son of the couple and feels neglect by his parents' attention to his 'sister'.
Then we have Jen, the exact copy of her mother and thus, aunt in appearance but is secretly hiding her jeweled eyes, her status as the tyrant emperor's illegitimate daughter. Jen who in spite of her look was the true one not born out of the couple, who feels jealous of her 'brother' because he is loved by his mother, her aunt, the woman she sees as her mother, has once believed was her mother.

WMMAP LP Au where Jennette proves Athy’s innocence Ace Attorney style. And since there are no defence attorneys willing to defend her sister, Jennette takes it upon herself to become one, with Kiel being her assistant cause he too believes Athy is not the culprit of the poisoning incident.

Keeping Up With The Judiths
+ Jennette
➽──────────────────────────❥
Penelope: If you get in trouble, I'm gonna be like... a lawyer to you. Ok?
Rosalia: Okay
*later*
Jennette: Aunty Rosalia! Sit down on the chair, you're in trouble
Penelope, whispering: Deny everything.
Rosalia, loudly: That isn't a chair.
--
Rosalia: *cooking*
Penelope: *kicks down door*
Penelope: *grabs knife from Rosalia's hand*
Penelope: WHAT DID I TELL YOU ABOUT DESTRUCTIVE BEHAVIOR?
Rosalia:
Rosalia: What.
Jennette: Mom is trying to tell you she wants to cook
--
Penelope: Am I in trouble?
Rosalia: Take a guess
Penelope: No?
Rosalia: Take another guess
--
Penelope: Ok, maybe playing ‘whose family is most dysfunctional’ wasn’t the best idea we’ve had. Rosalia's been crying in the bathroom for an hour. We can’t get her out...
➽──────────────────────────❥
I've been wanting to do this for a while 😂
I have a question, for those who know or just wants to share their thoughts or headcanon can do so. Who is older? Penelope or Rosalia
