Jennette was taught as a child, that she had to work for Claude's love and attention. That he was closed off and just needed the right person to make him open up again. He needed a special someone to fix him.
But it was easy. Roger was wrong, his majesty wasn't hard to get at all. Athanasia was killed for nothing.
Jennette never got to see her body. She rushed down to the dungeons hoping to at least give her one last goodbye, a prayer for her anguished soul.
But was only met with her ashes.
She took what she could anyways. Placed them in finest jar she had. Grew her own flowers for a funeral bouquet.
Often she sleeps with it, no one but her is allowed to touch it.

【 𝐖𝐇𝐎 𝐌𝐀𝐃𝐄 𝐌𝐄 𝐀 𝐏𝐑𝐈𝐍𝐂𝐄𝐒𝐒 】 - being athy's big sister
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
remember, requests are open !
Athanasia was very weary of you, at first.
In Lovely Princess, you were an impartial character. You treated both Athanasia and Jennette the same, never favoring one more than the other.
At first, you did speak out agaist the claims of Athanasia poisoning Jennette. However, when the fake evidence was presented, you could only side with the law.
The novel didn't expand much on your personally.. You were just Jennette's beloved big sister, and Claude's first daughter.
So she was surprised when almost every day, without fail, you would come running to her nursery, begging whatever maid that was half-hazardly watching Athy to let her play with you.
Although only a few years older than Athy, you did more than the maids every did (aside from Lillian, of course). You happily bottle fed her, read her books, played toys with her.
Still, Athy kept her guard up with you. You'd think she's cute now.. but when Jennette comes along, you'd leave her side just like in the novel.
...
At 10 years old, your little sister was 5. After your persistant efforts, Athy had slowly let down her guard around you. It was alright to relax for now.. right?
Your days before Claude were blissful. You'd sneak Athy chocolates, bake sweets together while the maids gushed over how cute you both were. You'd spend hours in the flower fields braiding wildflowers.
At some point, you basically began living in the ruby palace. You'd crawl into bed with Athy at night, holding her against you as Lily read you both a bed time story.
Every single night a kiss was placed on her small forehead, and you both slept soundly in each other's company.
But that changed when Claude appeared.
...
Both something that you and Athy could agree on was that Claude was.. unknown to you both. He wasn't exactly a good father to either of you.
Still, you saw the opportunity for your family to become closer, so you jumped at the chance!
Every day you were in Claude's office begging him to have a tea party with Athy and her.
Every day you would ask for a bit of money to get Athy a gift - and then of course, suggest he should get her one as well.
Slowly, over time, you three bonded and became closer (even if Athy didn't want to admit it).
When Athy started drowning that one day, Claude watched as you nearly jumped in after her. But he grabbed you by your ankle before you could jump in, instead fishing his hand in to get her out himself.
That surprised you both. You were excited, while Athy was freightened.
Things really changed when Athy had that near-death scare, though. You three were having one of your usual tea parties, when Athy started spitting up blood.
The last thing she saw was you rushing to her side, and Claude staring at you both in shock.
...
After that incident, everything changed. Well - things stayed similar. You three had tea, ate dinner together, went on boating trips. But things just felt.. different.
You both could see the way Claude looked at you two had changed. You were cherished. And while you weren't super caught off guard about it, Athy certainly was.
Every day you were carrying her to Claude's office, and spent almost the whole day in there coloring, playing, or talking to Claude.
Claude started giving you both gifts.
When you appeared at his office one day with Athy, dressed in these adorable matching outfits Lily got for you both, Claude nearly choked at how cute his daughters were.
You three were getting closer, as if you were a real family.. and Athy felt like she could finally, really, relax.
...
As you both got older, your dynamic changed a little, but you were stiill very close.
You helped Athy with everything for her debutante. Choosing decorations, jewelery, makeupstyles to do, dresses to wear, you were involved in every step. And she couldn't have loved it more!
Compared to Athanasia's original debutante, the event didn't feel like an upcoming battlefield, but instead a day to celebrate with her family ....in front of a bunch of nobles, but we'll skip that.
She insisted that you were a dress that matched her's somewhat.
As a teenager, she's much more protective over you. Her darling, angelic older sister, she couldn't just let someone take advantage of you!
Definitely starts getting jealous when you start spending more time with your friends, or your lover.
Despite her fears, you never "left her side" for Jennette. You were always cordial towards her, but Athy was always your first priority.
When Jennette's identity was eventually revealed, despite the ongoing turmoils, you tried to act like family to Jennette, but that sister bond with Athy was a bit different.
And even if it was a little selfish.. she was immensely greatful for that. You were the only person to be on her side since day one.
You were always there during the hardest times for Athy. Even when she ran away, she couldn't bare to see you in distress, so she would visit you every night and keep you updated.
On one occasion, she snuck you out to meet Jennette..
..And it was wonderful! You three spent the night drinking tea, eating cute cookies, and chatting the night away.
It relieved you that, even though Athy wasn't home, she was still safe.
...
By the time Claude got his memories back, you three had the strongest relationship you'd ever had before.
You were.. a real family.
After everything with Anastacius was over, the topic of inheritance came about.
You were, by a good few years, the eldest.. and therefore, the rightful heir to the throne.
You expressed right away that you'd love for Athy to become Empress. But that's where she stops you!!
You've done everything for her in this life. If you weren't here.. she wasn't sure if she'd even be alive, let alone in Obelia.
So after much deliberating, it was agreed that you would be the next Empress of the Obelian Empire.
...Which meant, you had to hang out with Athy a lot less. It was torture for you both.
The bright side was that Athy got to involve herself in all aspects of the planning. She wanted you to have the best coronation, so she deemed herself in charge of the matter, along with Claude of couse. But she'd act like the boss because it's Athy
She helped you pick out a dress, decide on the hairstyle. You two spent countless nights doing makeovers on each other, because she wanted to try different makeup styles on you, and you wanted to try similar looks on her so that you were matching on the special day.
When the day came.. it was magcial.
You were surrounded by your loving little sister, your proud father, the friends you had made, and the empire that adored you.
Although Athy wasn't going to be Empress, you made sure to communicate to her that you two would stay as close as you always had.
Despite her original fate, Athanasia had earned her place of ultimate safety and happiness; right by her big sister's side.

Attempt at Athy’s Novel-Accurate Debutante Gown (+extra Jetty)
Due to my own boredom and inability to focus on my schoolwork, i decided to detour from that and sketch what i imagine a novel-accurate debutante gown for Athy would look like with the description given for it in chapter 54.
Tumblr media
i try to stick to what was described and took heavy references from pinterest, especially with details such as the bow, bracelet, skirt, etc.. also, my first time drawing Athy with her platinum blonde hair as described in the novel! obviously in the manhwa Athy’s hair already looks more like Diana than Claude’s with it being lighter, but it definitely was on the subtler side (which i honestly think works with scenes where Athy emulates Claude). i also try to keep it fairy-like in terms of vibes and added sparkles to her bow and hair. overall, not too bad for a first attempt though i think it’s still a little far off. this design is basically one that i try to take the least liberties with since i’m aware of how many people want to see art of Athy’s novel dress and i’m one of them so i feel quite happy with this. though is it technically a sketch…
and as if sketching Athy’s dress from the novel description wasn’t enough, i decided to take my brain rot further and sketch out how i think Jennette’s debutante dress would look like. courtesy to it not being described and my brain going haywire at this point lmao.
Tumblr media
i’m exposing my inner ASM stan again because this is the second time i used an iconic ASM lady’s hair (or, hairbow to be exact) as an inspiration for a WMMAP fan design. this time instead of Shuri i decided to reference Ohara because honestly that hairstyle is to die for. Jennette’s dress on the other hand heavily referenced from a dress that assume is from the regency era? i just think the vibes suit her. yes i did also give her a fan for some details (referenced a drawing of a character named Audrey Hall from Lord Of The Mysteries, never read it but i heard it’s great) and i know it doesn’t match her vibe in the slightest but like, she deserves some fun in this sketch.
so, yeah. that’s my attempt at sketching out what i would imagine Athanasia’s debutante gown would look like as described in the novel, with a bonus Jennette to boot. let me know if there’s anything in these designs i improve on as i would love to hear some feedback. see ya <3 ;3

It's truly funny to me how Jennette got a super cute cover of her making dolls with her two dads flirting behind her and dandelions around, everything green, everything pretty while athanasia got a cover of her uncle trying to kill her dad in coma and with everything destroyed, thorns and also the headless angel statue behind.

Can we talk about how the narrative just screws with Athanasia and Jennette?
Athanasia spend her childhood pretending to be someone she wasn't just so she could live cause her dad's a psychopath and everyone keeps telling her that said dad cares for her despite actions saying otherwise. Her dad's childhood friend/personal guard, her nanny/maid who her dad threatened, and her childhood who's flip-flop. By the narrative, she doesn't continue to hate Claude and stops or doesn't make attempts to prepare to leave despite it being her original goal. To fricking leave Claude. You know prioritizing her safety? What happened to the girl who wanted to leave so she wouldn't die in the future? Why couldn't she ask Lucas to get her out of Obelia when she knew that he knew she wanted to runaway? Oh wait we have to focus on the "father-daughter relationship" that totally isn't unhealthy. Nope.
It's almost like she had to lost respect for herself as she grew up. She was struck with people who told her Claude cared for her since she was young despite HER having to put in the work to the relationship that was highly praised work. So of course she would go with it because the people around failed her. They have cater to Claude cause that's part of the narrative so even if he tries to kill Athanasia, she HAS to go back and miss him even when the red flags were flailing.
The whole one-sided rivalry between Athanasia and Jennette is weird. The girls are supposed to be sisters/cousins, so why are they seemingly being portrayed as love rivals? Jennette wants to be with Athanasia and Claude cause they're her family but she can't have that because Claude can only have one child? How does that make sense? And Athanasia got on the bs too? Athy read lovely princess so she of people knows that Jennette wants to be with them but no she becomes jealous of her cousin.
It's weird that Jennette is just not allowed to be with them despite being related to them. But wait we can't add another member to the family that'll break the family status quo. So instead a character who wasn't even alive is brought into the plot so Jennette can leave have her own dad. And it felt odd like Anastacius was possessed by a spirit since he was a child and is just now being freed. Which means he's pretty much a stranger to everyone including Jennette because we don't know he's actual personality. Remember possessed since being a child and yet Jennette was sent away with said stranger.
Why was this seen as a good thing? No one find that concerning?
Anyway those were my thoughts.

having a little Roger hater moment here but sending Jennette to a man known for his violent temper and debauched lifestyle is crazyyy. Does he not realize this could make Jennette the victim of nasty rumors and destroy her reputation? A pretty young girl having private tea parties and boat dates with the Emperor? No one knows Jennette is Claude's niece, heck, Claude DOESN'T KNOW she's his relative! I'd be worried for her. Why didn't Jennette have a knight or a chaperone who accompanied her? The answer is obviously that Claude would not have liked it and spoon wanted the pseudo-daughter-cheating drama, but the absence of a third party that ensures proper behaviour and protects the unmarried girl, means there is no witness who could assure that nothing happened. High society could have dragged Jennette through the mud. She would have been treated like damaged goods for the rest of her life and unable to find a partner willing to marry her. If someone like Claude invited a noble lady to his palace, I would have not in my wildest dreams imagined that'd he'd suddenly develop paternal feelings for that girl, especially when he already has a biological daughter that he cherished, with Claude's temporary return to his former self, I'd believe he'd fall back into old habits and was looking into women that he could move into the Ruby Palace.

Concubine
Jennette x GN!Reader

Jennette de Alger Obelia, the beloved crown princess of the Obelian Empire and the older sister of Athanasia de Alger Obelia, who is considered a forgotten princess.
And truthfully so, she is very much forgotten indeed. People of the Empire and their shared father cared only for their sunshine, future ruler.
Yet there was one person, one that Jenette desired most, and that wasn't Ijekiel. It was you. Whenever you were in her vicinity, the world around her didn't matter, no one else mattered, not even her father.
She was never able to catch your eye the way she wanted, all you saw in her was a friend at most, not even a close one, much to her dismay. Yet it never changed the fact that she loved to observe you.
Your whole attention was always directed to her sister, making her blood boil. Your visits were always for Athy and never for her. Do you really see her unworthy visiting? Unworthy of your companionship?
What did she ever done to you? You act so distant, it makes her heart clench in pain. One day she finally gathered the courage to ask you, what her younger sister had, that she hasn't.
She had much more of everything! What was the thing she was lacking? Yet the answer...
Your answer was nothing she could ever be prepared for, you loved her sister. You loved someone else. Her sister and not her. You didn't loved her.
She started to tremble from anger and frustration, fists clenched, eyes starting to water yet any tears never fell down her cheeks. She run away from you, before you could ask any questions, making you pale from the threat of death for making the precious princess cry.
Ever since then you were strictly forbidden from seeing your love, making both of you confused, yet inwardly you knew the reason very well, your inetraction with older princess never leaving your mind.
Athanasia never truly knew the reason for this, unlike Jennette, but that never stopped her from seeing you in secret, as she also held feelings for you.
Ever since then the older princess was always at your side, taking the place of her rival sister. The two of you grow closer with the flowing time, even after your doubt at the start. Much to her delight.
You even get so bold as to ask her for perimssion to have a sleepover with her in the castle, of course she wouldn't dare to refuse you.
She would've refused if she knew that you would sneak out at night just to meet with Athanasia.
Later on, the day of the coronation had finally came, and with that day henceforth the Obelian Empire welcomed its new ruler, Jennette de Alger Obelia.
And her first order was to make you her concubine...
No one honestly expected it, seeing you two as close friends, but the shock on your face told them all they needed to know. It was all one sided. You couldn't believe your ears, hoping that they have failed you, instead of believing what was happening.
No one would tried to do anything about it anyway, if their newly beloved queen says so, it shall be obeyed. You were left at her mercy.
The nobles that you were part of earlier, pitied you and your injust end. From being respectable and renowned noble to mere plaything of the empress, with no worth.
The only plus of this situation was the fact that you got your own palace to live it, meant for the new royal concubines, instead of living together with the emperor ones.
Speaking of the empress, she loved to spend all her free time with you. Visiting you every evening and calling you to herself on busier days.
It was great for her, the perfect harmony.. Until she caught you meeting with Athanasia. All hell broke loose.
The one person she was always trying to be better than, you were seeing her being her back, without her knowledge. That made her erupt with fury, and the next thing you know, a head rolled.
The head that once belonged to the Athanasia de Alger Obelia, the second princess of the empire, now laying on the dirt.
You couldn't say no, now your words hold no power, making you forever stuck at her side... Besides, after seeing what she had done to her kin, you don't want to risk anymore, do you?

Now that the novel is officially being translated, it’s genuinely one of the worst novels I’ve read as a writer (like seriously, the format is that of a middle school grade novel), with a main character who can’t help but irritate. Lee Jihye’s actions are often hypocritical, lacking awareness and acknowledgement of those around her, especially concerning those who appear within the original “Lovely Princess” novel.
She started off with a loose goal of surviving for the first half of the novel, and when that situation is resolved the whole second half of the novel she acts carelessly without a goal or drive. Rather than a main character slowly going through development, for the whole second half of the novel she acts more as a narrator than an actual character with dreams or desires and interacts with others without any sort of meaning or consideration. It’s suddenly at the climax at the very end of the story when she has a very abrupt epitome of “Oh, all of these people who I’ve been treating as fictional characters are actually flawed people with struggles”, before returning to her carefree way of life right as the story closes. However, there is no build up to this realization—rather, it presents as a thought that comes only because the situation called for it. She only seems to easily see people outside of the novel as ‘human’—people like her maids Hannah, Seth, or the wizards of the tower, or even Lucas himself. However, when it comes to the people who appear in the novel of “Lovely Princess” she almost dehumanizes them, reducing them to ‘characters’ who have to play a ‘role’.
This can be seen how despite the amount of times she’s identified signs of Ijekiel’s feelings for her or Jennette’s depression, she brushes them off until it’s too late and Ijekiel is openly expressing his jealousy and Jennette has attempted suicide. It’s easily seen as well when you compare her treatment of Hari to her treatment of Cabel—Hari, who never appears in “Lovely Princess”, she easily forms a bond with and thinks about and mentions quite often fondly like a friend. But when Cabel appears in story, she often calls him ‘puppy-like’ (as direct call backs from her reader standpoint towards the novel) and almost always mention his status as the second male lead, constantly bringing up his role in “Lovely Princess” and acknowledging his presence as if he were still that exact character from a book. Like when she interacts with Ijekiel, she doesn’t seem to acknowledge him as a fellow peer or even the brother of a friend—but rather the ‘second male lead’ in a ‘novel’. The dehumanization is blatant, along with her romanticization of the novel itself and projecting those thoughts onto the real people she’s become acquainted with.
This becomes clear when she deals with Jennette and Ijekiel. Almost every encounter with them, or rather whenever they are together, she seems to view them with rose tinted glasses of that of a reader living through a ‘romantic moment’ between the leads of novel—rather than as a fellow human being. Just as she mentions how it took her so long to see even Claude as a human, to the very end she allows her perception of “the female lead Jennette” and “the male lead Ijekiel” to dictate how she treats the two of them. With Ijekiel, she dismisses his blatant advances because to her, the idea of “perfect male lead Ijekiel” taking a fancy to someone other than “the lovely female lead Jennette” is impossible. It’s to the point that she acknowledges that she had to snuff her own developing feelings for him out because of that perception—that a such a young love would never bloom because Ijekiel is “the male lead”.
This projection of her perception of Ijekiel leads to her inability to acknowledge Ijekiel himself, which worsens the more she interacts with Jennette. Jennette—the lovely female lead of the novel—whom Athy had grown close to as best friends (Lee Jihye’s own quote herself!), but strings along halfheartedly. Her rose tinted perception of Jennette has led to the girls own downfall, acknowledging at the end herself that she had seen the signs of Jennette’s struggling but intentionally kept turning away from it. Simply, it was because she deemed Jennette as the “female lead” of a novel. “If Jennette is in trouble, Jennette can deal with it herself”—because that’s what happens when you’re the female lead. If Jennette is getting picked on by background characters, it’s something the female lead has to deal with on her own—even if Lee Jihye, as Jennette’s best friend, had all the power to intervene. Her fairytale-like perception of Ijekiel and Jennette has led to her physically unable to see Jennette and Ijekiel having complex feelings, be it as humans, or to eachother.
This is why I think the ending for Ijekiel and Jennette in the novel is just so tragic—Lee Jihye encourages Ijekiel to go with Jennette in her exile because she still sees Ijekiel and Jennette’s relationship with rose-tinted novel-reader glasses—that it is Ijekiel’s duty to ‘protect’ Jennette, despite the fact that Jennette’s own state was a result of Ijekiel’s cruel rejection of pent up negative emotions in the first place. She fails to even consider there actually being bad blood between them, or that this perception of hers is in actuality hurting both Jennette and Ijekiel—Jennette, who to us readers has revealed how Ijekiel’s falsity hurts her more than his cruel honesty—and Ijekiel, who never had never honestly spoken to Jennette nor gotten to know her. The sidestories even reveal a bit of this future—that despite the time passed, Ijekiel and Jennette hardly look at each other. Yet, Lee Jihye insists on their repaired relationship because she herself still fully hasn’t comprehended the two of them as flawed humans who had a genuine fall out—she sees it just as it was at the end of the middle school grade novel by the name of Lovely Princess. That to Lee Jihye, despite the turmoil and grief “female lead Jennette” faced, within the arms of “her beloved male lead Ijekiel”, she was comforted and healed. Except this isn’t a novel, and Lee Jihye spoke of a relationship between two people she knew nothing about—the ‘lovely female lead Jennette’ who had been falling apart for years to depression and the lack of genuine affection, and the ‘perfect male lead Ijekiel’ who had fallen almost obsessively in love with her to the point he’d reject his ‘female lead’ in a way he knew would torture his ‘female lead’ best all while silently jealous of everyone Athy loved.
To the end, the female lead by the name of “Athanasia” or “Lee Jihye” hadn’t grown or learned anything more than she had from the start of the novel. I couldn’t in confidence tell you what her goals or intentions were by the end of the story. Rather than Who Made Me A Princess being about her, or having her as the story’s female lead, I don’t think I know any of her desires or what governed her actions in the latter half of the story. I feel as if I could tell you about young Athy/Jihye’s desire and passions, but I have no idea what pubescent Athy/Jihye’s were. She had tea parties. She attended events. She handled flowers, and was wow’d over magic, but she never genuinely took an interest in them, and their presence in a story that’s supposed to be about her is minimal. The story concludes by telling us she continued her studies in preparation as future empress, that she enjoyed certain subjects, but you never feel it nor do they show it enough to make an impact. Who Made Me A Princess’ novel is predominately written through very simple and quirky narration, character interaction and dialogue. Because it’s predominately written in Lee Jihye’s perspective of every paragraph requiring some sort of quip, the novel comes off as almost amateurish and underdeveloped, leaving a bittersweet taste in your mouth. Reading upon each sentence, I can’t help but feel grief over what was clearly an idea and concept, but poorly reflected in the writing quality. Every chapter was draining, and I often found myself asking—“where exactly is this going?”. Reflecting upon it, side by side with my own cliche fifth grade writing, I can’t help but notice the similarities in quality and tone. The novel has much potential, but comes off as a slice-of-life sort of story without a direct goal, instead focusing on aimlessness of the characters dialogue and lighthearted daily life. Perhaps that was the intent, but ultimately, the balance of story elements and the poor quality of writing ruin the story for me, ending the note of Who Made Me A Princess’ novel failing my very raised expectations. A story that had been hyped so much by the fandom, I couldn’t help but see as lackluster in almost every aspect.
