So my main celebrity crush for the past 7 months has been Eddie Vedder, who was a huge WM3 supporter.
And now I'm fixating on Kirk Hammett... who is in Metallica. Metallica was Damien Echols' favorite band, he quoted lyrics from And Justice for All at his trial. Metallica gave the rights for three of their songs to be used in Paradise Lost.
Why do my celebrity crushes keep connecting back to the WM3?
#the wm3 case was my main hyperfixation last year#and now it's grunge but like the wm3 keeps finding it's way back

i'll never forgive the d*ffers for killing a character based on a wrongly convicted man
i know i've posted about this before, as have many people, but it pisses me off so much
they based eddie off of damien echols, who was convicted (along with two others) of killing three boys because the three of them were metalheads and kind of goth
echols was on death row and stayed in prison for 18 years due to mishandling of evidence and satanic panic
there is EVIDENCE of the killer(s) being the step-father of one kid and adoptive father of another, like DNA evidence, and echols, misskelley, and baldwin have been trying to get other "supposedly destroyed" evidence analyzed for YEARS
and the d*ffers said "yeah let's kill this character and not give him a chance to be a hero"
ridiculous

not to be true crime posting on main but i think i'm falling down the wm3 rabbit hole again
#xenia.txt#when i tell you this case keeps me up at night to this day#not even the murders themselves as much as the general public's reception to and opinions on the case 3 decades later like#i get why it;s always been so divisive especially after the pl docus came out (lots of opinions on those btw none of them are good#from the bottom of my heart fuck you joe berlinger and bruce sinofsky)#but it's truly baffling how no one is willing to do the research on what is arguably THE most well documented true crime case in recent#history like. everything that's ever been released to the general public is available online and i mean everything#you can find all the court files trial transcripts depositions interogation tapes aerial photos you name it it's out there for anyone with#internet connection to access at any and all hours of the day#and yet people are still foaming at the mouth fighting on reddit abt their innocence based off nothing but a couple of movies like#bffr with me right now!! almost every point the innocenters make can be easily debunked by scrolling through callahan for 15 minutes#'but they've been pushing for dna testing since their release so they can't be guilty' baby the case is closed!#it's been closed the second they took the plea. they can be striking under that courthouse and it still won't change a thing and they knowi#that's why they're pushing for it in the first place but that's just my opinion#^ and i say they but it's really only echols which makes a lot of sense to me personally#and if you want to talk abt dna testing let's talk abt the one that was done in 2011 and how the defense hurried to propose the plea as soo#as they got the results! let's talk abt those cause no one's ever seen them and i would very much like to#braga share the results the people want to know!!#makes me wonder which pieces of evidence they even submitted for that 2011 testing because if i'm remembering correctly#there was one that would've closed this case instantly and maybe that's why the results were never disclosed and the plea was rushed#but that's also just my opinion#and it's also interesting how the majority of people who have in fact deep dived into this case#(and i'm not talking abt big true crime youtubers as i'm very sceptical abt their research abilities)#all collectively lean towards guilty. much to think about#i was hoping someone would make another ~actually~ unbiased documentary for the 30th anniversary and go over all the case files#but i don't think that's even realistic at this point seeing as everyone and their mother has some sort of an opinion on this case#hbo deserves another lawsuit for this. they should've never won the first one in the first place#true crime tw

dbh-adjacent writing-program nonsense under the cut, a.k.a. let's talk a bit about WriteMonkey 3
I've used WriteMonkey 2 and 3 on and off for. hm. I guess it's gotta be eight or nine years now? but those instances of use have always been erratic and short lived, and I've usually returned to either Scrivener or, more frequently for many reasons, MS Word. (I also did just a ton of first-draft writing in discord back when I had an account and c/ped my writing from there into Word. near-peerless syncing between devices, appalling security practices. what can ya do 🙃)
anyway, due to ~circumstances~ I've switched to writing on a computer that isn't my writing program–filled work laptop, and so I've been experimenting with WM3 again because it's super lightweight due to plaintext markdown instead of rich text and I have a license key for it, which = fun plugins. it's also way less complicated and labor intensive to set up per project and use than, say, Scrivener. I love Scrivener! but scriv can be overwhelming and distracting when all I want to do is write, especially if I want a unique, quick-to-set-up theme (and I always do, because Aesthetic Is Everything), which is one of the reasons WM3 is so handy
in addition to the gorgeous stripped-down UI that showcases whatever background I choose (mine can be found here!), WM3 has some really neat little plugins? I don't actually use the word-frequency checker myself, but WM3's shows you where each word appears in the document via the little indicator bars to the right of the word, which. rad! (you can tell at a glance which chapters are written in whose POV based off name usage alone and I think that's neat.) also, when you click on a given word in the frequency list, it'll highlight that word throughout the document and also display all uses of it vertically over the scroll bar path. lots of nice little visual indicators of what's going on. I just really like the design, it's simple but extremely useful and intuitive
admittedly, Scrivener cannot be beat when it comes to how easily you're able to make notes in it due to its multitude of note-taking locations, plus it has internal splitscreen capabilities that make referencing a second document a breeze, so there's definitely a mental transition involved when it comes to WM3 and its single-document-at-a-time system, on top of switching to markdown-style comments/reminders. that said! being able to not only see those comments below the headings in the left-hand sidebar but also jump to them when they're clicked? stellar 10/10 would use again
finally, the repository. I <3 the repository. being able to quickly toss whatever text I'm not quite ready to delete or info I know I'll want to reference at some point in the future into the repository is great. it's a seamless process, only a couple seconds' worth of effort required, allowing my focus to stay on what I'm writing instead of distracting myself by tabbing my way through various open files to find my notes. plus the repository is searchable(!!!!!), and using it also keeps the actual text editor clean visually, especially since the right-hand sidebar can be hidden too:
hm! possibly that is a sneak preview of chapter one! who can say!
so yeah! if you're looking for a stripped-down, highly customizable, portable writing program, I absolutely recommend it. there are downsides, of course, the biggest one being no official WM3 mobile options available at present, but since the program is both portable and plaintext, you can toss it into a syncing service and access it via your handheld devices that way. it's also not open source, and you need to pay to access the truly useful plugin features. with all that said, if you don't mind fiddling around with some CSS to make everything look juuuuuuuuust right, you can get yourself a really snazzy setup with relatively little effort. but maybe that's just me—aesthetic is king and all that

My Top Posts in 2022:
reminder that i am a self-published author and have... several... books out, all available on amazon. kindle is 99c and always will be as cheap as amazon will let me make them. but! let's describe these books. all of them unless otherwise stated have lgbtqia+ characters, often main characters
first there's the pentalogy of hell series. first book is iscariot. the whole main part of the series, not counting novellas and companions, is out. this series is available in hardcover as well as paperback and kindle. it is not as religious as it sounds. mostly it's me co-opting christian mythology?? it's about kids who go to hell and they have a lot of fun there. beyr is also a part of this series as like a companion.
abnormal murders series. first book is serial killers with cookies. second book is coming out SOON. follows justine after her parents are murdered by uh. serial killers with cookies. she gets pretty morally gray as the series goes on. she just loves vigilante justice.
next is columbiner. which is just a little novella about the dangers of those columbine fangirls, essentially. idk how popular it is anymore but when i was in college they were everywhere on tumblr. no lgbt+ rep but then again there's no romance total.
vendettic trilogy! first book is spahn. follows the stupidest bisexual alive as he and his heavy metal band in the early 80s try to navigate "all this demon shit." it's not fanfiction no matter how much it might look like it. first two books are out.
like hell. kinda experimental. follows this kid brendan and his relationship with drew, who is coming from an extremely abusive home. i always describe this one was being about "friendship, revenge, and killing your mom's boyfriend". except they might not actually be just friends.
the crucifixion of craig knox! this is my west memphis 3 book. if you are familiar with the case this will be very familiar. if not, this is about a kid who, through his association with the town goth in the early 90s, is implicated for the murder of a couple of little boys. btw if we're talking about wm3 the trial for the possibility of dna testing is uh. comin up here. let's get those boys exonerated.
next is the aughts boys series which is more of a set of companion novels. the "first" book is one more sad song, which follows zeke in 2004 as he navigates his crush on his best friend after his best friend gets a girlfriend. also he likes skateboarding and hates his dad. the second one is the horror at camp new woods and takes place the summer before omss. it follows elliot at murder camp. the third one is right or wrong and it takes place the year before omss. it follows luke, who's new best friend bullies a kid to suicide and that's a lot. you don't have to read them in order. or all of them. if you just wanna read about murder camp you can do that. there will be more books in the series. like. a lot more.
tinon trilogy! only one book right now, circus wings. an actual fantasy series. follows environmentally-conscious lesbian princess and her guard who is just fed up with her shit.
i have two short story/essay collections. first is rewind, which is just short stories. second is life in anachronism, which also has some creative nonfiction essays.
aaand finally. carl & jimmy. which is just. it's weird. maybe don't read carl & jimmy.

Album: TNS
Artist: Cornbread217
Release Date: 17 February 2024
The last several months have seen a not-so-quiet hubbub in Springfield over the top rappers in our fair city. Many have been mentioned. Many have gone unmentioned. As of yet no definitive list exists that puts this issue to rest. A major issue in this scrum is the complete lack of a criteria. When we say “best” what do we mean? Is it the lyrical prowess that we seek to glorify? Is it the number of streams? Social Media popularity? What is the “it factor”? Inquiring minds want to know.
I cannot tell you who the “best “ is in 217. Until we decide on a criteria we will remain lost. However what is a music review if not an elongated opine? So while I cannot tell you who the “best” is my favorite and easily one if not THE most prolific artists to grace both state and wax here in the 217 has been doing so since before the original incarnation of MySpace.
Andre Middleton has gone by a number of aliases in his 20 plus year career. Cornbread or just Bread as he is referred to by his friends aka The Trash Pandacoot, aka Cornbread217 aka Gingerbread Huxtable is the heavyweight for favorite for the title of “best” to this admittedly meager publication. His latest release “TNS” is an absolute DYNAMO and leaves an indelible mark on all of the criteria aforementioned.
Bread is a lyrically inventive and pulls ZERO PUNCHES. His lyricism knows no bounds, which might seem a hackneyed phrase in this day and age. Bread effortlessly switches between current events and goofier fare that will keep audiences listening long after their desire for consciousness in their music dries up and the more trivial wants take over.
Cornbread is nearly unmatched in his Social Media coverage managing to engage his audience through all the most popular platforms as well as appear on a podcast with an audience that grows exponentially as he and his partner the strategic troll PrezADent meander through a wide variety of topics that range from the hilariously sexual to the decidedly mundane, somehow keeping an audience, that is far and beyond the 217 area code, heavily entertained.
One factor I failed to mention is the concept of proliferation. Can the artist in question maintain a steady output of music the quality of which meets or exceeds previous output? Cornbread can and ALWAYS does. Just a couple months ago Bread teamed up with local artist A1Muzik for the “Float Trip EP” The project was stellar and long awaited. It also showed a talent of Bread’s that while not unique to 217 hip hop, is certainly a seldom seen thing…a concept.
In November 2020 , participating as his alter ego the Trash Pandacoot, Cornbread released the concept EP “Welcome to the Zu” with former Springfield artist WeirdMarc300. He wrote all four beats and with WM3 rapping as “The Zu Keepa” the two warbled their way through an album idealized as four songs that together tell the story of a derelict local zoo. The “Float Trip EP” tells the story of two friends on that most intoxicating of Midwest summer rituals the float trip. His 2021 release “Negroes and Jazz” was heavily influenced by the turmoil of the current upheaval in the US while delicately balancing it with the innumerable contributions of the Black American to popular music.
On “TNS” Bread does not disappoint his listeners. Before a concept even becomes obvious Bread leaves the casual observer with a little Easter Egg. The albums release date it 17 February. In date parlance that’s 2/17. This man is velociraptor clever. “TNS” is an abbreviation that stands for “That Nigga Sifu” This is not the first time that Bread has compared listening to one of his albums to entering a dojo.
“Private Eyes” is a dreamy trip into sonic floating that has the artist spitting, with great aplomb, his signature over-annunciated, double entendres-laden flow. The Pandacoot reaches into his bag of tricks and pulls out an opening track of epic proportions.
Oriental inspired flute music litters the next track “Never Found Tha Clit”. At first this track appears base beginning with an acapella sentiment about the age old inability of men to find the proverbial female promised land. As per usual Cornbread hides a deeper meaning in his lyrics that while not on the surface is easily discernible.
On “Everybody Wants” he utilizes a flow he is not often known for still heavily enunciated but slightly more rapid fire as he raps about the desire of the modern human to have everything as a matter of instant delivery. The flow would be perfect right along side the dungeon family of old.
“French Otis” a title that borrows from the opening single of 2011s “Watch the Thrown” shows Breads uncanny ability to exploit a sample with Yeezy-like talent. Speaking of Uncanny. Local Artist, DJ promoter Uncanny displays potent prowess on “Otis” as he and Bread trade bars that would make the 2011 Ye and Jay wanna sign them to a 360 deal that they would probably come to hate…I mean it Ye tho 🤷🏾♂️.
“Tree Blowing Flute” utilizes one of my fave soundbites from “Boondocks” simultaneously using yet another oriental inspired flute that is somehow worlds away from the one previously mentioned.
“Humble Yourself” finds the MC combining the unlikely forces of a deep 909 bass and Indian sitar “Reel Lies” has Bread using voice effects something that he rarely has done in the past. The modern day hip hop head associates the use of autotuned vocals with simple, uncultured rhyme. Nothing could be further from the truth. Bread rhythmically warbles over this sick beat with his custom grace.
“Substitutes” pairs Bread with rapper WeirdMarc300 for the first time since 2020s “A Very Pandemic Christmas” the two create a picture painted almost exclusively of nursery rhyme images. The song is my favorite from the album but…of course I am on it.
The final tracks in order are named “Kata #6”, the introspective “Winters Adam”, “Wingspan” and the play on words “Blew Skies”. I want the reader of this blog to hear these tracks for themselves. Something should be left to the interpretation of the listener.
Finally we have something tangible for us Cornbread217 fans to sink our proverbial teeth into. Bread’s “Negros and Jazz” is a Pandemic Era classic. “TNS” is that albums big brother. Bread has been all grown up for years but this is the display. Like Earl Sweatshirt Bread makes all his own beats and writes all his own lyrics. My fave combos are him and Champaign badass ChaseBaby and of course A1Muzik, Uncanny and myself. Who is the “best” in 217? I have no clue. I mean LITERALLY NO CLUE. However if the criteria is lyrical prowess , proliferation, skill, and time at the grindstone, then the best is Cornbread. Excellent job Bread…now like any thirsty ass fan I gotta know…can you do it again? I’m joking. Of course he can. 💯💯💯. (Andre Middleton aka Cornbread217, aka CornthaCoon, aka Trash Pandacoot)
