The former Louisville officer who killed Breonna Taylor has been hired by Carroll County Sheriff’s Office.
Chief Deputy Rob Miller told The Courier Journalthat he believes Cosgrove’s hiring is justified yet understands the pushback it may receive.
“We think he will help reduce the flow of drugs in our area and reduce property crimes,” Miller said.
“We felt like he was a good candidate to help us in our county,” Chief Deputy Miller said.
Cosgrove was fired by the Louisville Metro Police Department in January 2021 for violating use-of-force procedures and failing to use a bodycam during the raid. According to Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron’s investigation, Cosgrove fired his gun 16 times into Taylor’s apartment ultimately killing her in the botched raid.
Four officers have been charged federally for their role in Taylor’s death. The crimes that the four were charged with include civil rights offenses, unlawful conspiracies, unconstitutional use of force, and obstruction offenses.
— The Recount (@therecount) August 4, 2022
Kelly Hanna Goodlett admitted in federal court to conspiring with another Louisville police officer to falsify the search warrant that led to Taylor’s death.
Former Louisville officers Joshua Jaynes and Kyle Meany were indicted on charges related to the warrant used to search Taylor’s home. A third former officer, Brett Hankison, was charged with using excessive force when he retreated from Taylor’s door, turned a corner and fired 10 shots into the side of her two-bedroom apartment. He was acquitted by a jury on similar state charges in 2022.
Carroll County Chief Deputy Rob Miller told WLKY that “we’re going to give [Cosgrove] a chance,” adding “there will be opinions on both sides of the equation.”

To clarify, he's stepping down as Senate Minority Leader in November, but plans to finish his term as senator, which lasts until 2027 (unfortunately). ( source: wlky Louisville, KY)
Whomever comes next as leader of Senate Republicans may very well be worse, but whoever replaces him as Kentucky senator will likely be better.
I hope.
A lot of relatively moderate Republicans & old-fashioned democrats have supported him for years just because his status as majority/minority leader theoretically gives more weight in DC to issues effecting Kentucky (whether that's actually the case is debatable and if it is he's put that weight on the wrong side of most of those issues, but that's the thinking). Those moderates aren't likely to accept the type of fanatic the Republican party will likely run for his seat in 2026 (wishing and hoping he doesn't stay that long even) as a newcomer. (I mean they accept Rand Paul but he's just an obnoxious libertarian instead of a trump wannabe/groupie.) As long as whoever wins the Democratic primary isn't seen as "too extreme" by those same moderates, we should be able to bring them over to our side (or make them not care enough to bother showing up to an off-year election). In 2014 Alison Grimes was able to pull 40% of the vote (McGrath got 38% in 2020) even as a woman in a largely-Southern-Baptist state running against a powerful incumbent. Without those two stumbling blocks (or even without one of them) we should be able to win, especially if a Libertarian bleeds off some of the conservative votes. Granted things have become more polarized since then, but a lot of people DISLIKE that polarization.
#Can't believe as a kentuckian that this is how I learned this#(Actually I can. Because I live on tumblr. But anyway)#Also I kinda hate to say it this way but if the Democratic candidate is a straight white man who's generally likeable#And makes an effort in the rural parts of the state#It should be a lock#(Unless the repubs also shift towards center with their primary winner. But that seems unlikely)#Ditch Mitch#This actually gives me some hope

Who is Dawn Coleman ( Woman, 40, 'confesses' to her role in death of boy, 5 ) Wiki, Bio, Age, Crime, Arrest, Incident Details, Investigations and More Facts
Dawn Coleman Biography Dawn Coleman Wiki
A woman charged with her role in the death of a five-year-old boy, whose body was found in a suitcase in April, has confessed after her arrest, police said.
Dawn Coleman, 40, was arrested in San Francisco, California last month and later taken to Indiana where she will stand trial. Coleman has been charged with an accessory to manslaughter, employee negligence resulting in death and obstruction of justice in connection with the murder of Cairo Jordan, 5. Cairo's body was found in a "Welcome to Las Vegas" suitcase in Washington County, Indiana, in April. The boy's mother, Dejaune Anderson, 37, is also wanted in connection with his death and remains at large in California. How did Dawn Coleman and Dejaune Anderson know each other? It's a question I've been asking for weeks. Today I got to speak with someone who lived with Coleman in 2021. The full update on the 5-year-old found in a suitcase airs tonight on @WHAS11 at 11. pic.twitter.com/Tm3b7alvsW — Tom Lally (@tomlallyky) November 22, 2022 Coleman pleaded not guilty to her role, although she allegedly told detectives after her arrest that she saw the boy's mother put her face on the bed while she was lying on him. According to WHAS, the woman also allegedly helped Anderson pack Cairo's body into the suitcase where it was eventually found and dumped it in a wooded area. Coleman, who appeared before a Washington County judge on Monday, began to cry as his charges and possible convictions were read. Child neglect carries a death penalty of 30 to 40 years, while aiding and abetting murder charges carries a prison sentence of 45 to 65 years behind bars, WHAS reported. Coleman, whose relationship to the boy and his mother is unclear, also said in the affidavit that by the time he met Anderson at the Cairo summit, "it was already done." She also said there were garbage bags in the room and helped pack the boy's body into the suitcase. Anderson and Coleman's fingerprints were later found on the garbage bag. "In this case, no crime scene evidence technology was spared," said Sgt. Carey Huls in reference to the work that was done after the boy's body was found. Coleman is being held on $5 million bail and her trial begins May 2, 2023. Following his complaint Monday, Indiana State Police Sgt. Carey Huls said it had been an "emotional" process and while they're not over, the case finally appears to be moving forward. "It's moving," Huls told WHAS. "It's a case that everyone is watching and everyone has an interest. When you have someone you care about in your life, it's easy to see why it's so exciting." Before Kairo's death, Anderson posted messages on Facebook saying his son needed to be exorcised and was displaying "demonic" traits. An autopsy revealed that the boy had indeed died from an electrolyte imbalance, possibly viral gastroenteritis. Cairo would have turned six on October 24th.
Authorities still searching
Authorities are still actively searching for Anderson, who was last seen near Echo Park in Los Angeles. According to one report, he also traveled to San Francisco, San Diego, Las Vegas and Houston. Huls told WLKY in a recent interview that police have spent the past few weeks and months looking for Anderson. "It's an active investigation," Huls said. "There's a lot of work going on behind the scenes that people don't see, so we hope and trust that she will be found and brought to justice." Huls said he was confident police would find them. Speaking to WSB-TV in Atlanta, Kairo's paternal grandmother urged Anderson to come forward and take responsibility for what he did. "He should give up," said the grandmother. "He committed a crime. You have to pay. The grandmother also said that she and other families spent the months following her death with "heartbreak" and wondering if more could have been done. "Words cannot explain the pain that everyone feels," she said. "And of course we wished we could have done more or could have done something." Read the full article
