#with selina it’s not as much of an issue bc if you read her early post crisis issues there’s literally ten years of her canon

selina was 19 when bruce was 26…? oh my god i never knew how old she was when she was first introduced so your tags shocked me😭
ok so i went back to volume one and it’s actually. a bit worse than i remember 😭
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i did get it wrong that it was on the cusp of year one/year two, these events overlap with year one so bruce is 25. but based on the above panels it seems selina could have been anywhere from 16/17-19 😭

I’m so glad I found someone else who has headcanons about Bruce having bad past relationships and the kids being protective over him because of it, especially Dick and Jason. I have so many headcanons and writing plans for it, I’d love to hear more of your ideas for his exes if you ever want to share!
UM PLEASE SHARE THOSE???? I'll do wretched things just to read those, you can't just say that and expect me to be Normal abt it -
But oh my GOD thanks so much for giving me an opportunity to scream about this because like -
One of my favourite headcanons is that Harvey was actually Bruce's first boyfriend. before Gotham chewed him up and spat Two Face out. I can totally imagine him being sorta like - a step dad for Dick and Jason? ESPECIALLY Jason.
I've seen some issues where they have that scrumptious " estranged father" and ''get the FUCK out of my life'' kid dynamic and let me tell you: I am eating it UP, no fork, no spoon, just devour
- conclusion, divorced couple, Bruce has all custody of Jason and Harvey hates him for it
Slade would be a close second because GOSH, early 2000s teen titans showing slade wanting to become Dick's twisted father figure,, I Am So Weak.
Bruce stays subscribed to his no kill rule n matter what, but the image of him holding Slade at knife point and threatening to murder him if he even looked at his boy,,, shaking crying throwing up
" you mean OUR boy, right?"
" he's never going to be like you. And he's never going to be like ME. You can bet on that, too."
Ofc Talia and Selina have the most rights; I love to imagine that Bruce loves Talia, but he's not IN love with her, yet, they both love Damian so incredibly much ( i refuse to believe that bruce would EVER let her think shes not capable of love) that it doesn't bother Talia anymore.
And Selina is Def the favorite ex. She has a mug that says " World's Okayest Almost Mom" and she'd trade her diamonds for it any day, any time. Quite possibly helps the batbrats in their protective shenanigans bc she's the ex turned best friend

@rhonas-indomitable I wasn’t even thinking abt the overlap with the femme fatale trope at the time but ur absolutely right! Putting on my Feminist Hat a bit here, but I think that’s part of the appeal of the misandrist femme fatale, her absolute disinterest in/revulsion for the (cis male) protagonist (& by extension, the author/audience which historically plays to the cis male gaze), which makes her all the more desirable as a Prize to be Won Over. It’s a trope you see across all kinds of media in the 50s-80s (could be argued that it began to be deconstructed a little in the 90s but especially by the early aughts). We still have a ways to go in how we deconstruct the trope and esp if we’re going to apply it/give new weight to its queer undertones.
In the case of Ivy, she’s put most often at implied romantic/sexual odds with Batman/Bruce Wayne. She’s usually shown to be frustrated by Batman’s resistance to her powers and takes an interest to him bc of that. This, and her origin with “romantic” interest Jason Woodrue (heavy quotations), are the ones I see most cited by fans who argue that headcanoning Ivy without romantic/sexual interest in men is bi/panphobic. But I feel that fails to understand that one is a case of forcing a Villain/Hero pairing when several for said hero already exist (& are longer lasting/more meaningful, esp in the cases of Talia and Selina), and the latter was an unbalanced and unhealthy professor/student dynamic that ended with said professor, well, making Ivy into the villain that she is today 🙃
And maybe there’s other instances of Ivy having actual, long-lasting, healthy relationships with men! I’m prepared to eat my words if someone wants to reply/send me an ask with an Issue # so I can read it! (God knows I need to read more Ivy comics). On the other hand too, if headcanoning Ivy as Bi/Pan means a lot to you personally I’m not gonna begrudge you that! You keep doing you! But how I’m choosing to engage with the text & what I’ve read so far (paltry as it admittedly is) feels ripe for a petition to be made for making Ivy fully, unequivocally a lesbian.
(But again, More Research Needed, bc as much as I am an Ivy fan, I have to admit when I’m slacking in reading up on her)
Maybe it’s bc it’s almost 2am too but like....
Ivy’s a misandrist. Like we all know this. We all agree. This is def something that’s been stated to be canon here and there a few times.
And like, headcanon all you want, especially since the text itself has yet to outright label Ivy’s sexuality one way or another. But I think being a misandrist kinda like... would make for a pretty fucking awkward conflict if she’s supposed to be like actually bi/pan instead of just straight up a lesbian idk
