She leaned in when Elina started telling her own story, nodding and humming in affirmation occasionally to show that she was locked in. As soon as the two women in the story found each other and got talking, Nora's eyes widened. This was the kind of soap opera shit that she loved. "Oh my god, but like— that's feminism! "Oh my goodness!" Elina said her eyes going wide as Nora shared her encounter. People had no sense of decorum or self awareness. "What was he even scolding them about?" The fact that he had no regard for Nora was ludicrous. Yes, they were providing a service, but that did not mean the Levin remained invisible and to the will of the patron. "Good for you! He deserved that and I hope he got stranded for a good bit of time too!" What a fucking asshole. Elina had her fair share of those that came through the shop too. It unnerved her to no end.

None of her comments were wrong, and they were well-observed. If he'd had to write about this band, he probably would've made similar points. "That's astute," he said, meaning it but also hoping that his pause wouldn't make her think that he was surprised by the observations; he was actually slightly impressed. "You're right. They sound like too many of those bedroom pop Brooklyn boy bands who have a single line of a single song go viral on TikTok. The rawness that came out of performing and sharing to people of the world your most innate thoughts in song. "They're forcing their sound though. When an oxygen-deficient explosive mixture of TNT/RDX is detonated in a closed chamber, diamond particles with a diameter of ca. 5 nm are formed at the front of the detonation wave in the span of several microseconds. Detonation nanodiamonds were first synthesized in 1962 by a group of Soviet scientists at VNIITF led by Yevgeny Zababakhin, including K. V. Volkov, Vyacheslav Danilenko, and V. I. Elina. The diamond yield after detonation crucially depends on the synthesis condition and especially on the heat capacity of the cooling medium in the detonation chamber (water, air, CO2, etc.). The higher the cooling capacity, the larger the diamond yield, which can reach 90%. After the synthesis, diamond is extracted from the soot using high-temperature high-pressure (autoclave) boiling in acid for a long period (ca. 1–2 days). The boiling removes most of the metal contamination, originating from the chamber materials, and non-diamond carbon. Various measurements, including X-ray diffraction and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy revealed that the size of the diamond grains in the soot is distributed around 5 nm. The grains are unstable with respect to aggregation and spontaneously form micrometre-sized clusters (see figure above). The adhesion is strong and contacts between a few nano-grains can hold a micrometre-sized cluster attached to a substrate. Nanosized diamond has extremely large relative surface area. As a result, its surface spontaneously attaches water and hydrocarbon molecules from the ambient atmosphere. However, clean nanodiamond surface can be obtained with appropriate handling. The detonation nanodiamond grains mostly have diamond cubic lattice and are structurally imperfect. The major defects are multiple twins, as suggested by High-resolution transmission electron microscopy. Despite the carbon source for the diamond synthesis – TNT/RDX explosive mixture – being rich in nitrogen, concentration of paramagnetic nitrogen inside diamond grains is below 1 part per million (ppm). Paramagnetic nitrogen (neutral nitrogen atoms substituting carbon in the diamond lattice) is the major form of nitrogen in diamond, and thus the nitrogen content in DND is probably very low. Diamond nanocrystals can also be synthesized from a suspension of graphite in organic liquid at atmospheric pressure and room temperature using ultrasonic cavitation. The yield is approximately 10%. The cost of nanodiamonds produced by this method are estimated to be competitive with the HPHT process. An alternative synthesis technique is irradiation of graphite by high-energy laser pulses. The structure and particle size of the obtained diamond is rather similar to that obtained in explosion. In particular, many particles exhibit multiple twinning. Recently Mohan Sankaran and Ajay Kumar from Case Western Reserve University achieve the fabrication of nanodiamonds 2–5?nm in size at near-ambient conditions by a microplasma process. The nanodiamonds are formed directly from a gas and require no surface to grow on.

She thanked the brunette for the napkins while trying to clean up her dress. "I'm sorry, once again. This place is so small, I'm sure it happened several times." She chuckled nervously, her cheeks turning red for the whole embarrassment. She noticed that she was also dirty. "Oh, no." She said while handing her some napkins.

"N-no. I was just heading to go home anyways." After that long day at the hospital and her mother being a pain in the ass, she went to the ice cream store so a) she could distract herself and b) remind of her childhood moments with her grandma, when she bought bubblegum ice cream after school, once per week. Ironically, she still asks for the bubblegum ice cream, even though it's a childish flavour.

"How about you? I feel terrible. Let me buy you an ice cream."

"Oh shit!" she said reaching for the nearby dispenser of napkins, handing them quickly to the blonde. Elina had been waiting in line for some salted caramel gelato. It was her favorite and after pulling off a last minute soiree where she was sure a few strands of her hair had gone gray by the stress, she decided to treat herself. A bottle of wine was waiting for her at home with some leftovers, which only meant that she had to pick up a sweet treat for completion. Unfortunately, in the process a rambunctious set of triplets had been running a muck in the somewhat tight space. Inevitably, they knocked into her which subsequently knocked Elina into the other.

"I'm good, I'm good!" If anything she had some remnants of ice cream. The parent of the triplet quickly scolded them, sending all three to wait outside on the bench. Kindly, they offered both Elina and other payment for their orders for the disruption. "There's always a chance to end up stickier than anticipated, right?" she said hoping the other wasn't too furious by their now soiled outfit. "I hope you weren't going anywhere after this? My shop isn't too far from here if you need a spare change of clothes."

Nora's eyes lit up, relieved that she didn't have to put up a polite mask so as not to rain on Elina's nice night. "Aha, that's more like it." She still tried to avoid those kinds of things much as possible, but it had gotten harder since her dad became mayor.

"Oh, that's juicy. Okay, so basically this dude gets into my car — he's got a suit on, AirPods in, and he's in the middle of a phone call so I think this is going to be an easy drive, right? Nope. He's talking to his girlfriend, wife, something like that, on the phone and he's just berating her for something that seemed, like, completely insignificant. This goes on for 10 minutes before I finally ask him if he could just keep it down a little, at least, and then he comes after me. 'Who do you think you are? You should shut up and drive' and so on. So I stopped the car on the side of the freeway and left him there. Drove right off."

"Fun? More like humorous to me considering I was nothing more than a spectator. Imagine a bunch of peacocks flapping their feathers and trying to one up each other." Elina was no mean a millionaire even with the success of her business. She lived a comfortable life and had a nice annual wage and made sure her employees did too. Having grown up in an upper middle class family, there was a standard set of living, but it had always been a bit much even for the Kumar. She certainly liked dabbling in the finer things of life, but too much of something and one lost the value it truly held. "Oh swap your car story with me and I'll tell you about a guy who got a drink thrown and had to be escorted out by security."

"Ahhh, I see," Nora said as she perched on the back of the bar, crossing her legs in front of her as she settled in. "Fun night, then?" She, herself, thought it sounded pretty boring, but she was used to the black tie galas and stuffy cocktail hours that she'd been forced to go to all throughout her childhood. "You flatter me," she said, tossing her hair back with a dramatic flair. "Oh, you know. Same ol', same ol'. I had the worst dude in my car the other day," she referred to her side hustle as an Uber driver, "That was a real low point."

"Aww thank you," she chuckled, feeling the warmth reach her cheeks. She was never one to have attention on her and feel comfortable with it. There's a reason why she put together flowers and hid behind the stems and petals for the past few years. Being behind the scenes was always her preferred position and even with the success of the business, that stance has remained the same. "One of my regular clients had a fundraiser they invited me too so I figured I'd go out and support." It was for the development of a dedicated youth center in the community. "Besides, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to catch up with one of my favorite bartenders. How've you been?"

"Elinaaaa," Nora greeted happily, always glad to see a familiar face. She looked the woman up and down with an amused smile. "Okay, okay, she's looking good, she's looking hot," she said as she watched Elina approach. After poking into the kitchen for a second to put in the fry order, she put a wine glass down on the bar and uncorked the requested wine with a satisfying pop. "Where are you coming from looking like that? You look a little too good to be here right now." She slid the glass over, eyebrows raised in amusement.

Elina was looking forward to a nightcap at the Four Leaf Pub. She had some of the most interesting conversations with patrons here in her time in Aurora Bay. There was a fundraiser at the Sea Scape that she was returning from and not yet keen on going home, she figured some fries and a nice glass of wine was due. Not many would come to the bar for that, but she didn't mind standing out like a sore thumb in that way. Besides, her attire enough screamed that she certainly didn't belong in there right now. "Hey Nora!" she smiled as she approached the blonde behind the bar counter. "Can I get a house red and an order of some fries please?"
