Young Love
Written for @remadoramicrofics day 4 prompt: Don't look now
Read on AO3
‘Don’t look now,’ Tonks murmured, ‘I think young love might be blossoming.’
Remus looked up sharply, not entirely sure what he was expecting, but found himself slightly disappointed to see her watching Harry and Ginny at the other end of the long table in the kitchen of Grimmauld Place. The younger pair were playing a game of exploding snap, which had just gone off in Harry’s face, leaving his eyebrows smoking lightly.
Ginny was laughing hard so hard she was almost falling off the bench, her arms wrapped tightly around her stomach. Harry’s cheeks were pink and an embarrassed smile graced his face, reminding Remus violently of another young Potter boy, and an unexpected wave of grief broke over him.
He turned away, his heart hurting from memories of happier times long past. ‘What makes you say that?’ he asked in a low voice.
Tonks looked at him then, her eyes holding a hidden meaning he wasn’t quite sure he wanted to decipher. ‘Oh I’m a bit of an expert when it comes to crushes.’
Remus glanced down at the map they were meant to be memorising for their next mission. He wasn’t a fool. He’d noticed her lingering glances, her longer than usual touches. He’d long given up on the hope of denying his own feelings for the bright young witch who had stumbled into his life.
But he could never act on them.
‘Looks to me like they’re just good friends,’ he said, eyes firmly focused on the map.
‘Maybe,’ she said in a strange voice, and when he dared to peek a glance up at her she was watching him intently. ‘Maybe one of them just needs to be brave enough to make the first move.’

did u always ship the hp ships that u enjoy currently or do u have a secret past (me personally i was reading harry/ginny i think. also romione)
very interesting question fourfeetteninches. i think it sounds really you to be reading romione. i dont mean this as an insult. i do indeed have a secret past! im putting it below the cut because this is longer than i expected it to be
i was never not into hp but i wasn't always in the fandom so while i have always been ride or die for hp since i my dad started reading it with my dad at 5 years old, there was still a gap in like early-mid 20s. i explain this to say that when i ~got back into~ hp despite not necessarily being ~gone~ it was because i read the 6th book first that time and i was like omgggggggg i love ginny i need to read more of ginny/harry. I was even writing an ouat/hp crossover and hinny was a side pair in it.
Then when i first got into hp fandom i think the very first fic i read was atyd so it didnt make sense for me that jily could possibly be with anyone but each other and for the LONGEST time i wanted to read narcissa fics but didnt ship her with anyone so i was reading Narcissa/reader, Narcissa/Alice, Narcissa/Pansy, even narcissa/bellatrix although i got really icked out by that one and any time there was a big focus in the fic on them being sisters i yeeted away (i only liked when i could pretend they were just two hot ladies who weren't related) but yeah none of those really did it for me I just wanted to read narcissa f/f. I think this is actually why i first JOKED about narcissa/ginny but jokes are dangerous as we now know. And ginny is a lesbian so idk how I liked her and harry. And i stumbled upon narlily by accident! I don't remember how!!! Because for a minute I was into bellalily but not as a shipper just as a desperate for bella fics (and again i wont read hermione so bellamione was out). And suddenly i was like how did I ever ship Lily with anyone but narcissa!!!
My other past is less secret bc i still ship it but after atyd I was sooooo into Sirius and wolfstar and I think the first hp ship I was super into (and not reading out of desperation for fics) was wolfstar!!! I read a lot but idk i ascribe to the idea that your ships are someone you identify with and someone you want to bang and remus is neither of those things to me and reading smut with him was kind of icky to me because i just felt nothing for him outside of casual adoration i guess so i still do ship wolfstar but i dont read it at all anymore. i love drarry too but there was a minute when i was experimenting with snape/sirius and with snarry and i read a lot of mushy uwu fall in love fics for those ships that i enjoyed at the time but now i think the only thing i support them for is hate sex

🍓 ⇢ how did you get into writing fanfiction?
🌵 ⇢ share the link to a playlist you love
🕯️ ⇢ on a scale from 1 to 10, how much do you enjoy editing? why is that?
Thank YOU for the full questions! The pictures are cute, but there's also soooo many of them.
Send me a Truth & Dare ask!
How did you get into writing fanfiction!
Pandemic, baby! In Fall 2020, I reread the HP books. I'd never really been into fanfiction as a kid [cue side story about my repressed childhood and ultra religious conservative parents that I do not have the spoons to get into at this time of the night] and so I didn't really get that fandom was a thing the way I know it is now. But I finished the books and was so unsatisfied with the end of the story being there. So I started reading post-canon HP stories (mostly Hinny) and then branched out into the marauders. I found fandom like October 2020, and my first FIRST thing I wrote was early January 2021. Had AO3 by April or so (omg, am I at my anniversary yet? going to check after this) and then the rest was history. my AO3 History, specifically. 😉
2. Share a link to a playlist you love
This is my... well, Songs I love 💞playlist, lol. It's a wild mix of things. every time I come across a song that I like the feel of, it gets added here. On shuffle, always, because I have the worst habit of finding an artist and adding every song by them in a row.
3. Scale of 1-10 on how much I enjoy editing, and why.
UGH. 2, most of the time. Usually, by the time I get dwn to editing, I've been in the fic so much that I'm just done with it. I hate editing so much right when I finish writing, but I'm also usually impatient to post. However, I've found that if I let things sit for a bit, going back to reread it is very refreshing, and editing is much more like a....6. I mean, it's still not the best thing ever.

hey hey good morning and salutations and completely optional Ask!
There is RedditDiscourse about the question of if Harry would find it hard to say 'I love you' for the first time, and re-reading Castles, as one does, I notice that you have him fairly easily saying it to Hermione (along with a beautiful little meditation on the different forms of it), in Chapter 2, but yes, struggling with Ginny--a thing I really like is that you portray it as also him struggling to BELIEVE it from her.
So, anyhoo...Deep Thoughts if you'd like, on this somewhat silly but also central topic--saying it versus displaying it non-verbally, what exactly might make it difficult for my boy to say it out loud, and characterization choices you made in having him able to articulate this to Hermione (would she, in your head canon, be the first person he said that to?)
All very optional, of course. Enjoy your day!
oh wow, redditdiscourse™ - sounds frightening lol 😅.
jokes aside, yeah, that's something i did think about quite a lot, especially when i wrote that hermione scene. initially, i was like 'eh, would he say that?' and remember being a bit unsure. i must also come clean on the fact that i did recently ret-con the hinny break-up scene in chapter 3 re: 'i love you,' - originally, harry said it to ginny as they were arguing to try and get her to stay, now he admits it to hermione, when they're talking on the couch instead:
'I fucking love her,' he says. 'Dumbledore said it would always be enough, he said -’
that change wasn't so much due to the fact that i thought he wouldn't admit it, though, it was more to do with the fact that i thought as they're arguing, he's totally in shock, and i thought it just wouldn't actually occur to him to say it in the first place. he's still trying to process and she's slipping away, and it all goes too quickly for him to really do anything. he admits it later to hermione cause he's drunk off his mind and has no filter. but, i might change it again whenever i do another re-read. castles is a work in progress and i do change some things sometimes, and so we'll see where i ultimately land with that.
but coming back to your question, i think it's one of those where, when it comes to characterisation, you can really argue both points. on the one hand, love is everywhere in those books, and harry's never particularly shy about it. it's what saved his life, that of his friends, etc. he argues for love in his last faceoff with voldemort, still believes in love in spite of everything that's happened to him, and that's what's remarkable about him, etc. so, i don't think he's scared of love. he's pretty open about the fact that he loves ron and hermione in narration, although he never actually says it to them "on screen". i'd definitely see him say it to ron pretty routinely, the way men sometimes do - like if ron did something stupid, harry'd laugh and say 'ah, love you mate,' and the like.
that's what made me "side" with keeping that line in when it came to hermione, in the end. i was like: this is someone who won a literal war thanks to love, i can't imagine him being shy about it. it's also what led me to initially write him saying it to ginny so early on. when you've lost so many people you cared about so much, you tell those who remain you love them. and, it kind of feeds into the frantic nature of the early chapters, of this sort of post-war euphoria with a lot of Big Feelings and i-love-you-i-can't-believe-we're-alive. it's not necessarily the same kind of love he later feels, but it's a love that's there. be it hermione or ginny, it's like: 'omg, we made it.'
also, harry's not someone who's particularly private or guarded, most of the time. when he kisses cho, he tells his best mates. when he kisses ginny, he does so in front of everyone without giving a fuck. and, this is obviously castles-canon, but he's also not shy about how he feels re:Mia - he knows he loves her, says it, even if it's not the way she wishes he would. i'm not saying he wears his heart on his sleeve, but he's not someone who's particularly secretive about the way he feels. same thing: when he's upset or angry, everyone knows it.
on the other hand, it's true: i don't think he ever says it in the books. so, you could also conceivably argue that he thinks it a lot but doesn't say it out loud, and that he might think it makes him seem more vulnerable. i think his reluctance to say it a second time in chapter 16 is however more rooted in what you pointed out: he doesn't believe ginny when she says it. so, he's more guarded. and, also, i think it just takes him a while to understand his feelings. they're slowly building themselves back up, you know? and generally, i do think that because of his upbringing, he would find it harder to believe it when it came from other people - not just ginny. i think if hermione or ron said they loved him, part of him would think 'ah, they're just saying that.' he's not someone who grew up being wanted. he loves Other People, but can't imagine Other People loving him.
in terms of headcanon, i think the first person he actually says it to is ron, as i said. but again, i don't think it's such a massive deal to him. i do headcanon harry and ginny as this sort of couple who say 'love you!' every time they hang up the phone. again, they're gryffindors. they're not shy and have Very Big Feels.
thanks for the question though, it's a super interesting one.

I want to say that I'm so glad I discovered TPFY so early in the making because I'm enjoying so much being part of this journey. I used to only read complete fics, but being able to see you and your story grow really changed my mind.
We are at the half way mark of TPFY and I'm hoping that maybe you can share how was your experience with it so far?
💚💚💚 you are one of my favorite people on planet EARTH i’m so glad you found it too because you have made this experience infinitely more enjoyable and i’m so glad to have met you!
overall i’m having a blast. this is my first fic that i’ve actually outlined and written beforehand instead of writing and posting on the fly and it’s helped a lot with my own process and confidence. and even though i have everything plotted out, it’s still constantly evolving and changing. i’ve added sooo many scenes and plot points that weren’t in my first draft and it’s only made the story better (i think) so i’m definitely going to continue this process on my next project (if and when there is one)
i can’t believe the level of engagement i’ve received and i’m just so gosh darn honored that people were/are willing to take a chance on a hinny angst with a happy ending. when i rejoined hp tumblr at the end of last year i sort of dove in head first on ao3 and knew what i wanted to read… but i never could find it. so that’s how we ended up here 😂 be the change you want to see in the world and all that
i was so nervous after those first two chapters were posted because it was so glaringly obvious how far ginny and harry had to go before they could be in a place to actually *get back together* i was terrified there would be like … genuine push back and drama because their characterizations were so different from everything i’d read and i didn’t want to break some unwritten rule that said harry and ginny had easy lives and lived happily ever after.
(side note if anyone has any hinny angst with a happy ending ficrecs PLEASE send them my way, they’re rare and usually buried in the tags which makes them impossible to find so please please pLEASE pass them along)
but i’ve been absolutely amazed with the amount of love this story has gotten and how many people have reached out to let me know how much they appreciate the post war trauma and subsequent handling of that trauma. it’s been a very very good experience and i feel some imposter syndrome at times because i do feel that i’m not capable of doing this healing process justice but knowing that you guys trust me with it has been a big help
thanks for your message and all your ao3 comments!! they always make my damn day and i go back and re-read them all the time 💚

For the ship and word game: Harry/Ginny, snitch ♥️
Thanks for the prompt! Hinny as parents - James is twelve. :)
SNITCH
It was December and so it was a cold grey day. There was no other kind of day in Scotland in December.
Despite the rather miserable weather, Ginny was jubilant as she trudged through the snow towards the familiar Quidditch pitch, red sweater on under her thick winter coat.
James had sent a letter late in the night. It was barely legible, and mentioned something about Quidditch. The follow-up letter from Teddy helped clarify things. James was in the reserves for the Gryffindor Quidditch team, and was getting to fly his first game thanks to a chaser getting a bad case of Fwooper Flu.
No one had ever come to her games at Hogwarts as her mother had never been comfortable Apparating and couldn’t spare the Floo powder, while their father was always busy at work. It wasn’t something she particularly resented, but looking back she would have liked them to see her and cheer her on for her games.
Harry was off on a mission, but Ginny could spare the time, and was happy to get a chance to see James playing his first ever game. It was strange being back at Hogwarts after so many years. She’d been back a few times for memorials back in the early 2000’s, but it had been over a decade since then, and much had changed. In some ways it was the same- the Quidditch pitch didn’t look all that different, but the pathways to it had changed, the seating, and she was having trouble finding the locker room.
“Ginny!” she heard a voice call, and saw Neville waving in the crowd. She enthusiastically waved and jogged over.
“Hey Nev!” She smiled and gave a hug.
“Here to see James?”
“Yes! Though, I’ve not clue where the locker rooms are! Where’d they move them to?”
“Ah! Those are on the South side now. The old ones had a lot of old spell damage and got torn out, oh, five year ago now?” he explained, leading the way to the locker room.
She could hear the sounds of teens excitedly gearing up for the game.
The team were mostly students Teddy and Victoire’s ages, if she had to guess by the look of them. James, by comparison, looked tiny and pale. He was bouncing both his legs as he sat at his bench, hands running through his hair. He was already with uniform and pads on, while the rest of the team were more languorous in getting their pads in place.
She’d been exactly the same her first match as a Harpie.
“Knock knock,” she said, fully entering the room. The teens quieted down seeing there was an adult in the room, while James shot to his feet.
“Mum!” James cried out with a smile, before carefully schooling it to a much cooler nonchalant look. “Erm, what are you doing here?”
“Came to see your first big game, of course,” she laughed.
“Oh wait- that’s Ginny Potter!” cried out an eastern asian girl. One of the tall teenage whipped around, a furious blush on his face, before shutting his locker that had an old poster of hers. She remembered the row she’d had with her mum over the poster and how she wasn’t ‘fully in her uniform’ for the shot. Another kid, Oliver Wood’s daughter she’d met a few times over the years, gave a quick wave.
“Yup,” she said with a winning smile. “Best of luck, to all of you. Go Gryffindor!”
She caught James’s eye and was surprised to find him looking rather cross. She gave a quick gesture with her head to the door and he joined her just outside.
“Excited for your match?”
“Well I was…”
Oh dear. She could feel the tween angst rolling off of him.
“Everything alright?”
“Why’d you have to come into the locker room? No one else’s parents did that.”
“You sure about that? Because I know for a fact Oliver Wood was there for the first few years of your Keeper’s games.”
James bit his lip, adjusting his rectangular glasses.
“You sure?”
“Oh yes. And he wore full regalia and painted his face, so you’re old mum isn’t too much of an embarrassment by comparison.” She had no idea if Oliver Wood had done this, but it was the first embarrassing thing she could imagine to make her look a bit less bad by comparison.
“It’s not that you’re embarrassing…” he said, digging the toe of his shoe into the ground.
“Oh?”
“I just… I want them to be thinking about how I’m good on my own. Not because of you.”
Oh. She’d not considered that as being a thing, but completely understood the sentiment.
“Hey, I can leave if—”
“No… No, I want you here. I’m glad you came,” he said, before furtively looking around him then leaning in to hug her.
“You’re going to crush it, James,” she whispered in his ear. “Remember to really tuck in your heels and arms when you’re doing any hard sprints. And look farther down the field so you can get a big picture of the whole game and really slow things down. Oh, and ‘give to get’ on your tight turns so that—”
“I know, I know!” James said, putting a hand through his messy auburn hair. It wasn’t as messy as Harry’s, but she had a feeling he’d been running hands through it more than usual.
“Best of luck, darling,” she said with a kiss to his forehead.
He gave her one of his most confident smiles, flashing his straight teeth, and for a moment she could just picture what he’d be like when he was quite grown up, a thought that terrified her.
“See you after the game,” she said, giving his hair a ruffle as she went to find her seat.
She looked for Neville amongst the stands, but spotted a familiar head of dark hair beside him.
“Harry?” she called out. He turned and grinned at her, wearing a Gryffindor scarf and facepaint on his cheeks.
“Go Gryffindor,” he said with a grin.
She smiled back, loving that he’d somehow made it to the game. She also loved how mortified James would be later. She was the cool parent; today at least.
“Nice to see you in your old colors,” she said, taking a seat beside her husband. “Thought you had a mission today?”
“The great thing about being Head Auror is you can push those off on other people,” he said, taking hold of her hand. “Plus it’s his first game. I couldn’t miss it. It’s nice to have someone in the stands rooting for you when you’re taking on something daunting.”
She gave his hand a squeeze.
“Yell super loud when James flies out. He’ll love it!”
James might act embarrassed, but she was sure he actually would love having his father there cheering him on.
When James flew out Harry gave a giant whoop, which made James show off with some loop-de-loops instead of going red faced like Albus would have.
The match was a good one, and James was keeping up very well with players years older than he. She glowed as he followed her advice to ‘give to get’- slowing down on turns so he could gain more smooth speed on the long runs.
He was a natural chaser and she couldn’t be more proud.
James was in a perfect tail slide transition with his Quaffle when a bludger was his his direction. Too intent on looking down the field, and with all the cheers, he missed her and Harry’s scream as their son took a Bludger to the back of his head and went tumbling from his broom.
There were a number of spells on the field to prevent a student from making impact with the ground (something they could have used back in her and Harry’s day). It did nothing to prevent the terror scraping at her insides seeing her little boy put on a stretcher with blood running down his temple, glasses smashed and laid on his chest. Harry’s jaw was set and he made an incongruous sight looking so grim while adorned in the bright face paint.
James was rushed to the hospital wing, and she and Harry stayed by his side the whole way there. All his cousins and Teddy came to visit, but they dispersed once they knew James would be alright, with the exception of Teddy who opted to stay.
James was healed and bandaged up by Hannah Longbottom. Despite knowing James was fully healed, they opted to stay until he woke up. Teddy nodded off in a nearby chair, his hair subconsciously turning the same color as James’s as he slept.
Ginny stood looking at James’s sleeping face until her vision blurred. She could picture him when he was just a tiny baby, his look of mischief on his face as he padded along the halls on pudgy legs, toddling after Teddy and Harry, wanting to be so grown up.
Harry took her hand and squeezed it.
“He’s alright, love.”
“I know,” she replied, swiping at her eyes. “I can’t stop thinking of him as a baby, for some reason.”
Harry gave a dry laugh. “I’ve been thinking the same thing. Is it just me, or is being a parent a bit like having a time turner? In the blink of an eye you can see your twelve year old as a baby or when he first walked.”
“Especially when they’re asleep,” she said, stroking James’s lightly freckled cheek. “I’m glad you came today.”
“Me too. He flies just like you, you know,” said Harry before standing beside her.
“I was thinking some of those loop-de-loops looked like you at that age.”
“Naw, all his brilliance is from his Mum,” he said, leaning in to gently kiss her.
“Eurgh…” James gave a grunt, squinting at them. “What happened?”
“You got a bludger to the back of your head. Same injury your dad had in his sixth year.”
“Wicked…” said James, before his eye went wide. “Who won the game?”
“Gryffindor, even though they didn’t catch the Snitch. You Chasers were that good!” said Harry, sitting beside James.
Ginny could picture James’s first broom ride, with Harry excitedly following beside him so he wouldn’t slip off the tiny broom.

Hinny in a vehicle for lust please :)
thank you! I made it an AU where they are in the Muggle world! I hope you do not mind
‘’Are you going out again?’’ Molly asked, in front of Ginny’s bedroom door, watching her get dressed. Ginny sighed, finishing tying her hair and then sitting on the bed to put on her boots.
‘’Just strolling around .. Come on, mom, I’ll be fine.’’ She reassured the woman, or tried. ‘’I’m already a big girl.’’ Ginny joked, finishing zipping her left boot, then standing up again, looking in the mirror to check everything.
‘’Ginny… are you going alone?’’ It was a prank, she knew that, but she didn’t blame her mother 100%.
‘‘Don’t worry, I’ll be back early.’’ She turned, picking up her purse and overcoat, stopping to hug her mother and mark her cheek with the red lipstick she had put on. ‘’I love you, don’t just stay awake for me.’’ And then she left.
Ginny didn’t want her parents to be concerned about where she was going out and with whom, but it seemed almost inevitable when every week his face was in the papers and on TV. It almost seemed like a trick of fate, to make her stay in the city where she grew up even more difficult.
She even tried to make them calmer about the idea that she's possibly going out with him (everyone knew it was up to him, the town was small and everyone loved gossip), but all she got was her crying mom and her dad arguing with her for being inconsequential.
Well, she was of age so she wasn't doing anything really wrong. But since she was at her parents' house, she respected their desire not to appear even at the door with Harry.
And that was why she had to walk to the next block to find him.
Boot heels echoed on the empty street, and the neighbors were sure to speculate tomorrow about where Ginny Weasley was going at that time, dressed in an outfit like that.
Not that she was wearing anything very sexy, honestly, she had already used things much worse, but when a woman left home with any part of her body on display in a neighborhood full of gossips and conservatives, it was already a cause for turmoil.
‘’You’re beautiful.’’ He spoke as soon as he saw her, leaning on the car and smiling like an idiot. Ginny laughed, approaching and kissing him quickly on the lips.
‘’Thank you, you’re not too bad either.’’ Harry squeezed her waist, making her stay longer than she wished, stealing a kiss from her. ‘’We’re going to get out of here before someone says we’re making out in the middle of the street. ’
‘’I wouldn’t say we’re far from that.’’ He said, smiling against her mouth. ''You look so beautiful in a skirt.'' Harry looked at her, that expression laden with lust that she knew very well. ‘’But so much better without.’’
‘’So why don’t we solve this soon? My mom can really call the police.’’ Ginny said, pulling away from him and getting in the car, happy to have chosen that outfit. The skirt and boot really did something for her legs.
''I'm glad I'm a cop.'' Harry blinked.
It was for this reason, precisely, that her parents hated him.
Harry and she had known each other a long time ago, when Ginny interviewed him for the London newspaper about the newest drug dealer he and the team had arrested. It was the first time she covered something so important, and the first time that Harry appeared on TV ... as well as the first time they were together.
Ginny continued to work on those cases, interviewing the other policemen and traveling wherever they went, and that's how she ended up at her parents' house, in that small town where she grew up. Of course, the residents were terrified of the idea of having a very violent gang disturbing the peace of the city, and it did a lot of work for her, at the same time that it made her even closer to Harry.
He had been receiving some threats, sometimes from the residents themselves, for thinking that he didn’t do the job properly, and other times (in most) of the traffickers he chased. Her parents were terrified of just mentioning his name, afraid that Ginny might become an easy target.
It was a very extensive circle of drugs, and there seemed to be more and more people linked to the case (both living and dead).
‘’Where are we going?’’ She asked, crossing her legs and watching him accelerate to the opposite side of her parents ’house.
''Don’t know yet. Are you the one who was born here, so tell me, where can we go?’’ His hand stopped on her thigh, as naturally as ever.
‘’Whatever.’’ She shrugged. ‘’Those have been tense days.’’ Harry nodded.
They continued to talk about everything and nothing, avoiding the subject of work, of course. The path Harry took was not so unknown, they had done that same path last week, and Ginny knew that they would probably park behind a hill, where it was difficult to access and few people frequented, and make out in the car.
Harry shared an apartment with the other investigative detectives, so there was no chance of them going there.
"The first thing I want to do after everything is over is to stay with you in a real bed." He said, lying in the driver's seat (they lowered the seat), holding Ginny's waist so she wouldn't get out from his lap.
‘’I like your car, but I can’t take it anymore either.’’ She leaned over to kiss him, feeling her skirt go up and curl up where his hands were planted. ‘’I wish I could decently remove your clothes.’’
‘’I wanted to do so much with you that we’d spend the day listing everything.’’ Harry held up a hand, holding her cheek and bringing them even closer. Ginny closed her eyes in anticipation, swallowing the sigh when she felt his fingers playing with the seam on the side of her panties.
‘’Really?’’ Ginny moved even closer, feeling her lips almost touching his, by just under inches.
‘’Hmm’’ Harry murmured, pulling the back of her neck so that they finally kissed decently - as decent as the situation provided them - releasing all the tension he felt throughout his body, not caring too much about being kind. Ginny looked just as hungry. ‘’But for now.’’ He said, putting his hand inside her panties and caressing her, feeling a little dizzy with the sensation of her being so hot and wet. ‘’I can handle sex in the car.’’

Finally here with something which is NOT self promotion! I've been really racking my head for ideas because I've been itching to write some Hinny, and the idea of their first date really just came to me when I was getting ready to sleep one night (istg the way this brain works) so I was like 'obviously have to write this asap??"
So here it is, a little something about Ginny and her feelings for Harry as she waits (and meets) him for their first date! Written from Ginny's POV because who doesn't like that? Also, I tried to keep this one short and sweet :)
I'm not really in love with this, but nevertheless don't let it flop ahaha
Please do send me any requests for something you might want to see written and I'd love to write them! Wouldn't be me if I didn't plug in my AO3 so here it is.
Hope you enjoy this!
----
Way too crowded. Way too many couples. Way too many pairs of people holding hands. If Ginny would see another couple, she would definitely scream and stomp back home.
Meeting at the Grand Market during Christmas for her and Harry's first date had been her boyfriend's absolutely genius idea, something Ginny at the time, had actually looked forward to. This whole plan of meeting Harry outside uni, all dressed up, and a promise of strolling after dinner along the river, had all seemed a VERY good idea to her then. But she had also been distracted with how Harry had been doing things to her neck with his lips so that may or may not have influenced her agreement about the date venue.
But now that she was here, looking beyond the ocean of people, the place really looked gorgeous. Christmas lights were strung up everywhere, lending the big market square with a magical air. There was just something about the Grand Market, especially during Christmas. Maybe it was the aroma of freshly baked gingerbread wafting from her favourite coffeeshop, or the excited children pointing at things they'd like Santa to get them. Or maybe it seemed extra special today, because of her impending meeting with one chaotic haired man.
Ginny let out a warm breath, rubbing her gloved hands together. It wasn't that Harry was late- Ginny was just super early. It was her mother's age old adage to be early rather than on time, and that was why she stood in the square, looking at the number of people passing by. Yellow glows rose from the various stores, and Ginny could hear faint carols playing somewhere a few feet away. Swarms of enthusiastic people of all kinds- couples, families and even individuals, peered into stores, wondering how make their loved ones' holidays just a bit more enchanting. It was yet another thing which made Christmas so endearing to her.
Ginny looked at her wrist watch. 6:55 PM. Harry would be arriving any minute now. They had arranged to meet at 7, right where Ginny currently stood. A few more minutes must have passed by when she finally saw Harry walk towards her, a broad grin on his face and hands in his coat pockets. It wasn't that he never looked good- in fact, always to the contrary. But today, he just looked extra nice. A deep green turtleneck, complimenting his eyes, with dark brown pants and a similarly coloured woollen coat. He wore the cream muffler her mother had knit for his last birthday around his neck, rendering his fair cheeks with a slightly reddish tinge. His nose was red too, and it was taking all of Ginny's strength to not stand on her toes and press her lips to his nose.
"Hi. You look," He started, breathily, running his eyes over her. Ginny suddenly felt self conscious- she had dressed up more than usual. Was it too much? Her red dress with black stockings, heels and a black overcoat had seemed plain enough at the time.
"Is it okay? I feel a bit overdressed." She said, suddenly embarrassed. Her hand tucked a loose curl from her bun behind her ear.
"No. You're dazzling." Harry said seriously, moving closer to her. She smiled, convinced, and moved, by his sincerity.
"Thank you." She said, finally standing on her toes and pulling Harry into a hug, her arms wrapping securely around his neck. She could feel his warm, ungloved hands settle at her waist, keeping her to him tightly, yet slightly loose- a promise of committment, seemingly woven with the slightest insecurity. She just hugged him tighter in response, hoping that it could convey what she wanted to say. And it did, because Harry's grip tightened around her, his face burying further into her neck, pressing a soft kiss.
When they finally pulled apart, it seemed as if the crowd had quietened down to give them their moment. Everything seemed calmer, more tranquil, as soon as Harry let go of Ginny but kept one hand woven with hers, in his coat pocket. It made her hands extra toasty- Harry's hands were always warm, and combined with her gloves, the residence of their interwoven hands inside Harry's coat pocket signified to Ginny days of warmth and comfort ahead. Even when they found themselves in the most terrible of winters. She sincerely hoped Harry felt the same, looking up at the side of his face.
"Let's go, we have our reservation." Harry looked back, and as if mind reading, his green eyes reflected a combination of determination and adoration. Ginny just smiled in response, nodding. This had always been their thing. Even though it was their first date as a couple, they had known each other since school as Ron, her older brother, was Harry's best mate. And they had always managed to convey their feelings without words, as if they were made to communicate this way.
She had hoped her silly schoolgirl crush on Harry would fade as she grew up, but it seemed to be something which intensified every day, every month of the year. Even when they were with other people. It had never felt so right, so right as Ginny's hand perfectly sitting with Harry. Or so right when she looked him in the eye and saw plain, simple love. It was as if they were two pieces of a jigsaw, incomplete until they fit together.
And as she walked through the market with Harry's hand in hers, all the couples so much in love suddenly seemed a tiny bit more bearable to her.

Yay yay yay platonic Rarry! I want more. A lot more! I love friendship fics between Ron and Harry ❤️
Hi anon! Here’s some more platonic Rarry for you (with side Romione and Hinny because I couldn’t resist.) Hope you enjoy!
*************************
Taking the next step
“Want to take the afternoon off if we get through all this paperwork?” Ron asked Harry. They were both sitting at their desks in the Auror office, having gotten a brief reprieve from being in the field.
Harry looked up from what he was doing. “What’d you have in mind?” he asked.
“I could use your help with something,” Ron said noncommittally.
Harry stared at him before saying, “Okay…”
“You’re not opposed to using glamour charms and disguising ourselves, are you?” Ron asked.
“No. Mate, do you have some secret Auror mission you’re trying to investigate or something?” Harry asked.
“What? No, ‘course not! I just think it’d be best if we weren’t seen by anyone who would recognize us. I’ll explain when we’re out of the Ministry.”
“Alright,” Harry said as he went back to his work. He trusted Ron, and was sure he had a good reason for whatever he had planned. The afternoon came faster than he’d expected, and the pile on both of their desks had become significantly less.
“Ready?” Ron asked.
“Sure. Are you going to send a note to Hermione letting her know that you’re leaving?” Harry asked.
“Er, no, she doesn’t need to know. I’ll send a patronus if we end up being later than expected.” Ron said. “Lunch in muggle London first?”
Harry was surprised that Ron wasn’t telling Hermione, but tried to hide it. “Alright.”
They stopped at a quiet cafe a few blocks into Muggle London that had a good selection of sandwiches. After they placed their order, Harry looked at Ron.
“Alright, what’s really going on that you’re being all secretive about?”
“I want to look for a ring,” Ron told him.
Harry stared at him, processing his words. He wasn’t surprised in the least. The girls had just finished at Hogwarts a few months prior.
“Wow, really? That’s great, mate! How’d you know?” Harry was genuinely interested, since he’d been thinking about how long he should wait before he started shopping for one for Ginny.
“Honestly? I’ve known it for so long, and things are finally starting to settle into some normalcy in our lives, and it just feels right.”
Harry nodded. “That makes sense. But why not just shop in Muggle London? There are plenty of jewelers, and then you can avoid the prying eyes of people in Diagon Alley.”
“Magical jewelry is different, mate.” He shook his head and rolled his eyes, “Honestly, I shouldn’t be surprised when you ask questions like that anymore, and yet here we are.” Ron laughed at himself.
“How?” Harry asked interestedly, pretending he didn’t hear Ron’s jab about Harry’s continued lack of magical knowledge.
“Well, it’s kind of like shopping for a wand, isn’t it? It’s not that the ring chooses the person like a wand does, but there’s magic embedded in the ring that’s drawn to certain dynamics of couples, and the right choice will help strengthen the bond between them. So like, the ring I’d choose for Hermione would be different from the one you’d choose for Ginny...if that’s something you decide to do, too, of course. There’s really more to it than just style and diamond cut and band, and all that other rubbish I’ve been trying to read up on in secret,” Ron explained.
Harry nodded, “So, have you guys talked at all about it or is this going to be a complete surprise?”
“What do you mean? We’ve talked about our future together, but Hermione’s not really the type to gush over a princess cut, or side stones, or the difference between white gold and silver…” Ron droned on.
Harry snorted, “ I think you need to lay off the research. Are you hearing yourself right now?”
“Oi! How much thought have you given it?”
“Enough to figure that I’d just know what would suit Ginny when I see it? She’s not exactly the ‘froo froo’ type either,”
Ron nodded in agreement. “See? That’s exactly my point!”
Harry looked at him as if he’d grown two heads. “So has Hermione ever actually talked about what kind of ring she wants?”
Ron stared blankly back at him. “Er, no. That’s why I asked you to come along. We’ve only ever talked about the future in relation to being married and how many kids and where we’re going to live...we’ve never really discussed the engagement part of it..”
They were interrupted by the arrival of their food. “Ah, so you proposing is nowhere near on her radar,” Harry said.
“Hopefully not, but I’d like her to be bloody surprised for once in her life. She’s got everything too planned out.”
“That she does. So what are you thinking?”
“Well, you know how we were talking a while back about taking a holiday together? I thought it might be perfect to set that up and plan for it, then. It can still be a private proposal, but we’d also have you and Ginny to celebrate with, and we could enjoy it before having Mum go crazy at the announcement.”
“Oh, excellent idea! When are you thinking?” Harry asked. “I could use a break.”
“Ginny’s got a gap in her season coming up next month, yeah? We could go then?”
“Sounds brilliant, but how are you going to pry Hermione away from work? She’s barely getting started, so you know how she’s going to react to taking a vacation so soon.”
“Well, luckily she’s got to use some of her paid time off before the end of the year. Only half of it will carry over.”
“Brilliant, really brilliant mate. Maybe we should go book the trip this afternoon, too so they can’t talk us out of it,” Harry suggested.
Ron looked up from his sandwich excitedly. “See, I knew I could count on bringing you along! I might have to send that patronus to Hermione after all.”
*********************
After they finished their lunch, they paid and left the cafe, heading for a dark alleyway just down the street. They altered their appearances using glamour charms so no one would recognize them when they returned to Diagon Alley. As they made their way to the jeweler, they brainstormed different locations for the trip, and ultimately decided on southern Italy. They both agreed that that would be the most memorable and romantic for Hermione when it came to the proposal.
They walked into the jewelry shop and began looking as the shopkeeper was helping another customer. Ron was browsing along the glass cases when he saw one that caught his eye. It was a yellow gold vintage band with a round brilliant diamond cut in a cathedral setting. There were four single cut accent diamonds on either side of the center stone. The ring was unlike anything he’d ever seen.
“Ah, yes, the brilliant cathedral in traditional gold. This one is rather rare when it comes to browsing patrons,” the jeweler said to Ron. “It signifies the test of time, and is best suited for a couple that is deeply devoted to each other. I haven’t seen a pairing for one of these in quite some time.”
“Oh? Should I, er look at something else?” Ron asked awkwardly.
“No, no, I meant that as a compliment. The ring is sensing the love and devotion you have for your other half. It absolutely suits you.” Harry walked over to see what Ron had found. “I should warn you though, if you choose this one, it’s best not to wait too long. You may lose the strength in the bond it feels.”
Harry tried to stifle a laugh. “Hear that, mate? Don’t wait another seven years to pop the question.”
“Bugger off, Barry.” Ron said (they’d agreed that code names would be best as well, just in case). “I’ll take it,” he said without hesitation.
“Excellent! And might I show your friend a particular piece that I can sense pulling towards him?”
Harry shrugged as Ron eyed him curiously. The shopkeeper let them over to another class case and pulled out a silver band that held a solitaire diamond. “A simple white gold band with a radiant cut diamond. Fit for an easygoing couple that understands balance in an ever busy life.”
Despite Harry’s high profile life, this did fit them well. He and Ginny had always had a mutual understanding of the hardships they’d been through since the war had ended, and they’d worked hard to be more open and candid with each other as a result. The ring certainly suited Ginny’s personality well.
Harry gave Ron a tentative look. “If it feels right, go for it, mate.”
“But this is about you and Helena,” Harry made up a fake name on the spot for Hermione.
“Yeah, but if that’s really what you want with Minnie then go for it. Just, don’t hijack my plans.”
Harry thought for a moment, and knew deep down that ultimately this was the direction he wanted to go in with Ginny. He hadn’t been happier since they were able to pick their relationship back up, and he couldn’t see himself with anyone else. “Yeah, alright, I’ll take it,” Harry said as he broke out into a huge grin.
“Look at us, growing up and thinking about next steps,” Ron said.
“Yeah, who knew we’d even be here to see the day,” he said quietly.
They took turns checking out, setting up transfers to be made from their Gringotts accounts, and once their true identities were revealed, Ron pulled out nondisclosure agreements to ensure their anonymity from the press. This wasn’t something he was going to chance being ruined because of one person.
“That was brilliant thinking, mate,” Harry said as they walked out of the store, still in disguise. “Ready to head over to Globus Mundi?”
“Let’s go. I think we can ditch the disguises there, but let’s transfigure the bags just in case.”
“Good thinking.”
“So when are you thinking of popping the question?” Ron asked him eagerly.
“Well, I’m not going to do it too close to you guys. Was thinking maybe around the holidays. That’ll give Hermione enough time in the spotlight.”
Ron nodded. “Thanks, mate. You’ll be my best man, yeah?”
Harry laughed and said, “Isn’t it a little early to ask? She might not say yes.”
“Very funny, Harry.” Though a look of worry creased Ron’s brows.
“I’m just kidding! Of course, I will, as long as you’ll do the same for me.”
“I don’t know...for a specky git like you? I wouldn’t want to overshadow you with my handsome looks, after all,” Ron said with a smirk.
Harry rolled his eyes. “Yeah, alright, I deserved that.” They both laughed some more.
“Come on, we’ve got a vacation to plan!” as Ron picked up the pace.

Can you tell me about your Neville oc?
heck yeah!!! thank you so much for asking!!
asterope aurelia malfoy or aurelia black because she disowned herself is my third oldest oc and is the only oc that i’m constantly working on! i created her in 2016 on March 22 ( the only reason i remember the date is because im emo and i love mcr ) and i was originally planning to write a cliché but with twists harry potter fanfiction cause I love clichés but it spiraled out of control.
asterope’s character and story has been a journey for me, i’ve rewritten the story so many times but the last rewrite which i started in fall of 2020 ( which is technically just a better written and more planned version of the 2018 rewrite ) and is the one i’m most confident on!!  I’m like 90% this is going to be the final version and I have the ending planned and everything, it’s just i take a very long time to write so it’ll probably take me another year to finish it!! she’s honestly my favourite oc!!
she’s a hufflepuff and in the end of her third year at hogwarts when the story starts. it’s heavily implied that she’s not really a malfoy but asterope isn’t really sure who she is. the story kicks off when she’s chosen for the triwizard tournament along side harry potter. she was chosen for different reasons than harry, meaning voldemort didn’t want her to be part of the whole plan he had but she ended up being there. she doesn’t do all that well in the tournament magic wise but she ends up getting decent points because dumbledore’s favoritism.
my favourite part of her story has and has always been, the ootp section because 1.) it’s a turning point for her and her character and 2.) so much angst. i’m halfway done prewriting that part and i’m super excited to finally move onto the half-blood prince which is the part that i’ve never made it to in terms of her story. the farthest i’ve made it to is the department of mysteries. and this is getting really long and i’m super sorry about that sjsjksjs
asterope prefers going by her middle name aurelia, she has a lot of nicknames but her favourite is either ari or sunflower girl which are both nicknames given to her by neville.
she’s a hopeless romantic and she believes that her and neville are soulmates, she’s not sure if they’re romantic or platonic soulmates just yet but she’ll figure out the real answer soon!
her first friends that she makes are technically all the weasleys but she refers to neville as her first friend because she sat with him on the train, or rather he sat with her  👀👀 she reads him a book on the train and they fall asleep on each other’s shoulders. neville drools on her shoulder and asterope makes a comment about it which is a nod to percabeth ( the first book couple i ever shipped ).
she’s never really understood the whole blood supremacy her parents taught her but she listens to it well enough and believes it to a point especially in the beginning but she doesn’t believe it enough to stop her from earning other people’s approval. so basically she lies about not believing in it to keep friendships and eventually she learns better and she lets go of that ideology,
she loves ABBA, musicals especially phantom of the opera and the carrie musical ( which was released in the 1980s but it flopped so you can’t find the original soundtrack for it, the earliest is like 2012 BUT it was out during the golden trio era so it counts and it’s actually probably her favourite out of the two, to be fair she loves carrie the movie, and any movie with Winona Ryder.
she’s bisexual!! and although she never says it during her book ( and by this i mean she never uses the term because she doesn’t know it ) asterope is genderfluid and it’s heavily implied through out the book, she likes being female and male and doesn’t really care for the whole gender thing. but she doesn’t know that there’s a term for how she feels so she never takes one. eventually she does hear about genderfluid and she does come out probably around the early 2000s.
asterope has a crush on ginny, it never really went away she just started questioning her feelings for neville and got consumed by that. i’ve mentioned that fred has a crush on asterope ( she’s never returned it ) i did that because i am a fred girl too and at one point during a rough draft i think i was going to have asterope get with fred for a bit but now i cannot see them together. Neville is obviously endgame but I really actually like her and ginny as couple. and i like neville, asterope, and ginny as a couple even more.
( but i also really like hinny )
as a toddler she idolised her aunt bellatrix and she remembers this phase vividly and she cringes thinking about it because in her mind bellatrix = bad. but she has a lot of memories of bella being nice to her and that causes a lot of turmoil between her need to be loved and her relationship with neville. the angst of it all is just chef’s kiss.
she loves puns, she her cat named freddie purrcury and the tree she had as a child named vincent van grow. she and sirius are the pun-makers of the black family, no one can top them.
at one point in a chapter asterope shows neville ABBA and sings waterloo to him using his hairbrush as a microphone. and lowkey that’s the first time he thinks about marrying her. it’s not even a detailed scene in the story but it’s mentioned as a thing they do to pass the weekend before things take off for the ootp content. but it’s one of my favourite moments. ALSO asterope unironically loves rick astley’s never gonna give you up and she rick rolls umbridge twice.
i have so much about asterope malfoy but i’m pretty sure i’ve already said to much, pretty sure i just wrote a really bad essay about her!! i’ll end it here but there is more if you ever want to know more in the future!! thank you so much for asking about my oc, i really appreciate it!!

charity work bonus snippet
@the-hinny-shipper
Oh my gosh I love this. Probably not, but is there like a part 2 or something? I know that's meant to be the end, but I need to know what happens next.
Thank you so much for the kind words to charity work, my Muggle AU where Ginny is a famous football player who helps Harry teepee and egg his ex’s house! ♥️
I am actually working on a part 2. Harry and Ginny of this world just couldn’t stop chattering in my head, and there’s about 2.5k words thus far. I know what’s going to happen - I just need to write, edit, and pull the trigger and post it...
But in the meantime, I am sharing a funny little subplot that I wasn’t sure was ever going to see the light of day. It’s a bit of a prequel that I started but then dropped because it didn’t add much to the story...but today I thought, eh, why not share since we can all use some laughs now more than ever. It’s unbetaed, and I’m still iffy on it, but I hope you this will tide you over until I get part 2 posted.
(Also tagging the lovely @isidar-mithrim and @blattgefluester in case you are interested since you were both so amazingly kind toward charity work!)
Summary: This wasn’t what Seamus had in mind when he suggested Ginny do more charity work.
*
The Prophet landing on the table with a loud thud.
“What’s this?”
“This, Ginny, is the result of your spectacular interview with Miss Rita Skeeter.”
Ginny lifted her chin, pushing the paper away from her and returning to shoveling her porridge down. “So it’s the usual rubbish.”
Seamus pursed his lips, annoyed that once again she wasn’t taking this seriously. “Rubbish it may be, but rubbish that sells.”
She arched an eyebrow at him. “So are you here as my publicist or as a friend?”
“Can’t I be both?” He grinned.
She prodded the offensive article with distaste. “What do they say this time?”
“Well, Miss Skeeter took it upon herself to approach all your exes for an ‘expose.’”
“I like to kick a ball for a living. I don’t understand the obsession with my love life.”
“The all-star player who went pro at your age with your looks?” Seamus winked. Ginny rolled her eyes.
“Don’t let Dean catch you doing that.”
“He knows I’m a hopeless flirt,” he dismissed cheerfully.
She made a strangled, irritated noise.
“Look, it’s not too bad.” He unfurling the paper with a wince. The headliner, Wonder Girl Weasley Not So Wonderful Girlfriend?, paired with an unflattering photo of Ginny shoving a camera away from her face flashed back at her. “She found some, er, old classmates to go on the record.”
Ginny’s expression darkened. “Record about what?”
“You remember when you stopped people from bullying Luna? And Neville? And when Dean and I got together? Well, somehow Skeeter got in touch with Parkinson, Zabini, Smith... Skeeter may or may not insinuate that you’re…aggressive. Have a bit of a temper.”
Ginny grabbed the paper and began reading loudly, “Since the early days of her youth, Ginevra Molly Weasley, better known as Ginny, the Wonder Girl Weasley, has been bewitching men to do her bidding. We here at The Prophet have long extolled the many virtues of Miss Weasley, but I, your fearless investigator of truth, uncovered a disturbing pattern in how Miss Weasley wraps men around her little finger. What others thought was wit and charm, I have uncovered may actually be the result of a threatening temper. I dare to ask, should we be concerned with Miss Weasley’s trail of broken hearts and perhaps other broken body parts?”
He bit his tongue as Ginny read the part where Rita expounded on Ginny’s "commoner” country-side upbringing” surrounded by her “rowdy” brothers as the source of her “violent streak.”
“I only punched Parkinson once, and that was when she poured punch on Luna!” Ginny scrunched up the newspaper and flung it angrily into the bin. “She goes on about some weird sorcery I have with men.”
“Look, I’ve already called Parvati about getting you on some morning shows, but maybe this time we can agree on some talking points, hmm? And maybe have you do some charity work, show your gentle, caring side. Get some positive press coverage.”
She continued to fume, muttering under her breath, “Skeeter gives witches a bad name.”
“It’ll all pass, Ginny,” Seamus smiled at her sympathetically. “Come back later tonight. Dean’s making roast, and we’ll talk about how to set the narrative straight.”
He sent her on her way, hoping that practice would relieve some of the rage.
*
Seamus’s head emerged from the oven, his face flushed scarlet. “Ginny, you can’t just go meet random fans and help them commit a crime!”
Even after all these years, she never ceased to amaze them. But this - randomly taking an Instagram follower’s request to egg and teepee a house? This was one of Ginny’s more...creative ideas.
“That’s right,” Dean agreed, taking the roast and plating it. “For all you know he could wank to your posters.”
“Well then you’d know he has good taste,” she said, dripping her finger into the cooling gravy.
“Ginny,” they sighed together in exasperation and pushing her away from the kitchen counter.
“What happened between this morning and now?”
“You’re always saying I should do more charity,” she said pointedly.
“You know that’s not what I meant,” Seamus wagged a finger at her. She folded her arms across her chest, staring them down (which was quite the accomplishment, considering how much taller they were).
“We can’t let you do this.”
“When has anyone ever let me do anything?” Her eyes narrowed dangerously.
Seamus and Dean shared a long look, no doubt both of them remembering that one time she broke into the headmaster’s office to steal back the replica toy sword Ron was stupid enough wear to school as part of his knight costume for Halloween.
“Look,” Dean said carefully, leading her into the dining room as Seamus followed, plates of food laden in his arms. “We know you’re more than capable to taking care of yourself.”
“Damn straight,” she said, but she let him gently nudge her into her seat.
“But as your friends — ”
“One of whom would like to stay gainfully employed,” Seamus cut in, playing the food on the table.
“—and who would absolutely be murdered by your brothers if they ever found out, we want to make sure you’re…thinking straight.”
“I can take care of myself.”
“Oh, we know,” Seamus said, deadpan. “But I really don’t need another article supporting this theory that you’re aggressive. If you beat the bloke up and the press catches wind of it…”
“I’m going. I put this idea into his head. And look at him,” she said, holding up a picture of H-P-Lightening, smiling sheepishly into the camera.
They examined the photo skeptically as Ginny tucked into dinner. Maybe while they were distracted, she could nick an extra bit of roast.
“He’s cute,” Seamus pointed out.
Ginny rolled her eyes. “Not the point.”
"Doesn’t hurt,” Dean said.
“He and I share a similar goal: to serve some much-needed justice in the world. And since I can’t go about egging Michael’s house without it ending up on the Sunday papers, I can at least help someone else.”
“His hair is an absolute disaster, but it somehow works on him,” Seamus continued, ignoring her.
“Those green eyes,” Dean said appreciatively.
“Plays football too,” Seamus said, clicking through to some videos. “He’s fit.”
Now they were both giving Ginny a look with entirely new context.
“It’s not like that,” she said breezily.
“Maybe she’s hoping he wanks to her poster,” Seamus snickered, not believing her for a second.
“He could wind up in trouble if he doesn’t know what he’s doing.”
“And you’re an expert?” Dean asked.
“I’m a Weasley.” She smiled wickedly, and they laughed. “Besides, who am I to ignore a gentleman in distress?”
“Okay, fine, if we can’t stop you —”
She snorted.
“—then we’re coming with you.”
“What?”
“We’ll watch from a safe distance,” Seamus assured her, Dean nodding along. “Just to make sure you don’t end up in the papers.”
“We will help you hide the body,” Dean said.
Ginny looked from one to the other. They were grinning at her, half eager and half earnestly. She didn’t need them to come. She was more than capable of taking care of herself. But, suppose this turned out to be something she wasn’t expecting…
“Fine, but —” she added quickly when they started to wiggle their eyebrows at one another “—the moment, and I mean the very moment I give you the signal, you better make yourself scarce.”
Dean and Seamus beamed across the table. “Whatever you want, luv!”
*
“You can’t stay if you’re going to be this obvious.” Ginny growled.
“Obvious? We’re perfectly inconspicuous,” Seamus bristled.
“You brought binoculars,” she said dryly, placed her hands on her hips. “And a bat."
“Told you she wouldn’t like that,” Dean said.
“I won’t use the bat. It’s just in case we need to scare him off.”
Ginny and Dean gave him a look.
“What? This person could be tricking us!”
When Ginny’s glare made his back hair stick on end, Seamus relented.
“Fine, we’ll cross the street,” Seamus said, taking Dean by the arm. When they turned around, Ginny was still scowling, whipping out her phone and texting them furiously.
You are going to have to HIDE.
There’s nothing strange about us being here! Seamus typed back.
You’re two random, loitering blokes, ready to stalk or bean someone. If you’re going to stay, you’re going to hide. Ginny over at them critically. Behind those bushes.
“Ugh,” Seamus groaned, crouching down and behind the bushes with his boyfriend dutifully following. He swatted at a twig that was unpleasantly digging into the side of his bum.
Happy? he texted her back.
Delirious. Remember. You both better leave when I give the signal. Or else.
A shudder went down his spine, knowing very well what Ginny was capable of.
“This isn’t what I imagined our cozy Friday evening being.”
“You don’t really mind,” Dean said, smiling knowingly.
Seamus huffed and peered into the binoculars rather than reply. Yes, he was worried about this blowing up in his face (things often did), but he couldn’t deny he was a bit curious. He had never seen Ginny look that way at a photo before.
“You just want a front row seat,” Dean teased.
“Shut — oh, I think that’s him!”
They watched with anticipation as a lanky, bespectacled bloke with tousled black hair ascended the train station steps. He seemed to be deeply brooding as Ginny approached him. Through the binoculars, Seamus watched as this fellow, Harry something-or-other, looked up, eyes wide, and nearly tripped over the last step.
“They seem to be hitting it off,” Dean said as Ginny and Harry laughed before she handed him a hoodie.
They began walking, and Seamus scrambled to follow. “Come on.”
He kept an eye out for anyone else who might be around, but there didn’t seem to be anyone who recognized or followed Ginny.
“I think we can leave the bat.” Dean chuckled, swiping the binoculars for a closer look himself.
They trailed the other couple from across the street, doing the best they could to be inconspicuous. Ginny and this bloke looked good together. He looked oddly charming with his wild hair and glasses, but it was really the way he looked at Ginny at set Seamus at ease. They kept talking, laughing, smiling at one another. Seamus hadn’t seen her laugh so much since…he couldn’t even remember.
Was that — was Ginny Weasley blushing?
After several minutes, Seamus and Dean stopped and looked at each other.
Ginny had completely forgotten about them.
“Do you think if we leave now, we can still catch the last half of the game?”
“Yeah,” Seamus said, taking Dean’s hand as they headed home.
Maybe their Friday evening plans could be salvaged after all.

Harry, Baby, Hurry Through the Window Tonight

Another Muggle AU based from the prompt:Okay, he’s not Father Christmas, but he did have a very good reason for breaking into the house.

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Ginny flicked on her bedroom light at the second loud crash. She had bolted out of bed when the first thud echoed from the kitchen. Because the cat had been snuggled beside her, Ginny had no idea what or who it could be; she lived on her own.
She rose off the mattress slowly, hoping to avoid making the old frame creak. Grabbing the cricket bat from beside the bedroom door, she cautiously stepped out into the corridor. She didn’t live in a large flat. Just a few basic rooms, such as a kitchen and toilet. Hell, the kitchen was only separated from the sitting room by a small island tabletop.
The house was dark, but Ginny knew the layout of her ground-floor flat well. She stepped over the dumping spot for her team kit, which never seemed to make it into the laundry bin at first. She then dodged the recently arisen Christmas tree near the sofa. The kitchen was cast in a half-light from the streetlamp outside, giving Ginny a view of a dark shadow crouched near the sink.
Not giving it a second thought, Ginny raised the bat up high bring it down as hard as she could on the figure.
"Fuck!" The figure spun on its heels, keeping low to the ground but now raising arms to cover its head. Ginny brought the weapon back up high, more than ready to swing again when the man made a stop gesture. "Wait. I can explain."
"So can I." Ginny brought the bat down to his shoulder with a satisfying smack. "You broke into my house."
The man --and now Ginny knew it was a man -- nodded as he crawled sideways, trying to get out of her swinging zone. "Yes I did, and I'm sorry about that, but it was the first place I found with an unlocked window!"
"Were you looking for an easy score?" Ginny followed him as he scooted across the floor, her bat at the ready. "Because if so, you’ve got another thing coming!"
"Easy score?" She saw the man blink as he passed in a long beam of the street light. His eyes made her pause. They were hypnotic green. He shook his head wildly. "No! I wasn't coming to rob you. I was trying to get away."
Ginny held her pose, bat ready for the next swing, but her brow furrowed. "Get away from what?"
The man kept his hands up, his palms showing. "Can I stand up to tell you? The floor is rather uncomfortable."
She considered saying no; she didn't want him to have any advantage. But instead, she nodded. When he rose onto his knees, Ginny kept her voice low and menacing like Bill had instructed her all those years ago; it kept fear in her opponent. "You make one wrong move and I aim for the side of your head. And I don't miss."
His eyes went wide as he nodded. "Fair enough." When he got to his feet, Ginny couldn't help but give him  a once over. Not only were his eyes entrancing, but he was fit. Really fit. Messy black hair stuck up in odd, strangely appealing angles on the top of his head, which somehow worked well with the scruff growing on along his jawline. Fuck. If robbing houses wasn't his career, then he must be a model.
Don't go there, girl, Ginny scolded herself. Now was not the time or place. The man was a full head taller than her so she had to look up in order to see his eyes;she wanted to be on guard for any changes, not just because they were so… provocative.
"So I guess I'll start with my name." He gave her an awkward yet way-too-endearing smile. "I'm Harry."
Looks and a name to match royalty. Fuck, Ginny! She pushed her ridiculous musings aside. "All right, Harry." Ginny gestured with her chin towards the stools that sat by the island. "Why are you in my flat?"
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
"So just to get this straight." Ginny pointed the uneaten half of her reindeer-shaped biscuit. "This bloke at the pub thought you were making a move on his girl, but really she had made a move on you. So you ran away because he had mates ready to beat you up. You choose a random road and decided to try and hide in one of the flats. The first few windows were locked but mine wasn't, because I'd burnt dinner last night and needed to open the window to let the smoke out." She quirked a brow. "Does that about sum it up?"
Harry nodded, taking a sip from the chipped mug that Ginny had given him. This had become one of the weirdest days of his life. It had started with that handsy girl in the bar, and now he was having tea and biscuits with the woman who's flat he'd broken into. After he'd started his tale, Ginny had started the kettle, and now thirty minutes later, they sat together like best mates.
Really though… Harry couldn't help but like Ginny. She was inquisitive, funny (based on the comments made during his storytelling), and not to mention she had one hell of a swing. And none of that even started to cover how fucking attractive she was. At first, he'd considered letting her keep swinging that bat at him if it meant he could stare at her.
"So there is just one thing that I don't quite understand." Ginny licked at her upper lip, removing a few stray crumbs. Harry had to force himself to focus on her words rather than her movements. "Why did you try to open windows? That just seems like an odd choice to make."
He nodded. She made a good point. "Honestly... I heard their voices yelling down the street and I just went into a ‘get the fuck out of the way’ mode. I didn't really think. It was a first instinct."
Ginny smirked an all too sexy smirk. "Quick on your feet there, Harry."
Was it normal to get aroused from someone saying his name? Harry swallowed hard, hoping his cheeks didn't give away his current -- thoughts. “Well, I mean...” His hand came to rub the back of his neck. “They don’t let just anyone become a bobby.”
“Hmmm.” Ginny’s smile became mischievous. “That true. Gotta be careful with who you trust with handcuffs.”
Harry, who had just taken a bite from his biscuit, started to choke. He coughed, clearing his lungs of the offending cake.
Ginny laughed, reaching across the small table to pat his back. “Really, I should be asking to see your warrant card.”
Through sharp intakes of breath, Harry reached into his trousers pocket and pulled out the little wallet he kept his card in. He flipped the cover off, revealing his horrendous photo. Ginny examined it for a long moment, taking in all the information, before nodding in satisfaction. “I guess you’re safe from my bat.” She winked. “For now.”
“Much obliged,” Harry said through large breaths.
She smiled at him, leaning back into her chair. They sat in comfortable silence, the sounds of merry crowds milling outside filtered by the thick flat walls. Harry tried to keep himself from staring at Ginny, but it was a nearly impossible challenge. His eyes flickered between the freckles that spread across her cheeks and nose and the few strands of hair that remained out of the messy ponytail falling over her dark brown eyes… her bewitching eyes. Pull it together Potter!
He cleared his throat, nodding towards the last biscuit on the plate. “Wanna split it?”
Ginny cocked her head, squinting at him in consideration. After a moment she smiled and nodded. “I guess in the Christmas spirit, I’ll share.” She broke the wafer in half and handed one side to Harry. “But just so you know, normally I wouldn’t share.”
“Well, then I feel honored.” Harry bowed his head at her before taking a bite.
She snorted, biting off the top of Santa’s hat. “So, now that you’re a wanted man, what’s your plan for the night?”
Harry shrugged. “I guess I could go back to Remus’. I was supposed to meet an old college friend at the pub but he never showed, and”-- he checked his phone-- “never even texted to tell me what happened.”
Ginny shook her head. “Some mate you have there.”
“He probably got distracted by his girlfriend.” Harry rolled his eyes. “His excuse will be something along the lines of, he won’t see her for a week.”
“Wow, your mate and my brother would get along swimmingly. Sometimes I think my brother will follow her in the loo -- and not to do anything that would get them on Santa’s naughty list. He just because he can’t be apart from her.”
Harry laughed. “Joined at the hip?”
“To say the least.” Ginny shook her head. “But back to you, my friend. What’s Harry’s new big bad Christmas Eve.” She glanced at the clock above the stove. “Make that Christmas Day plans?”
“Oh, you know, going gallivanting across London. Find the blokes from before, challenge them to a duel to the death, win, impress all the women that have gathered around our battle and then find my future wife in the crowd. You know, a normal Christmas miracle.”
Ginny stared at him for a moment, her mouth agape, before she started laughing so hard her shoulders shook.
Warmth spread through Harry’s chest as she laughed. Fuck, she had an adorable laugh.
“You, my good sir,” Ginny spoke through the tail end of her guffaws. “Have high holiday hopes.”
He shrugged, hoping to feign nonchalance, but really his head was concocting a holiday fantasy around him and her. “What about you then?” His voice dripped with sarcasm, that the smile on his lips diluted. “What were you doing home on this fine eve?”
Ginny brought the tea mug up to her lips, taking a sip before replying, “If you must know, I was already in bed. I have a long drive tomorrow morning and I wanted to leave early.”
“Where are you going?” Harry tried to keep his tone casual while his mind played through different scenarios, all of which ended with her meeting her ruggedly handsome boyfriend for Christmas tea and having their own little present exchange.
“My family always gets together for presents. Typically I would be there tonight and we’d watch Love, Actually, but I had to work today so I figured I’d just leave tomorrow morning.” Ginny’s smile became wistful. “I thought about watching before bed tonight, but --” She shrugged.
“It’s not the same,” Harry spoke quietly, knowing exactly what she meant. He knew what it was like to put off traditions that had once been an integrated part of the holidays. Ever since Sirius had…
When she locked eyes with him, Harry was certain there was more than just understanding passing between them. Her gaze seemed to ignite something inside him, making his whole body tingle.
“Would you like to watch it?” Ginny’s laid-back tone didn’t match the ardent look in her eyes. “I have the DVD somewhere around here.”
Harry nodded. “Yeah, that sounds nice.”
Ginny beamed at him, making his heart race like he’d run a marathon. She stood from her chair and gestured towards the sitting room. “If you can figure out the entertainment system, I’ll make us some popcorn.”
 XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Ginny pressed her nose into the warm pillow, refusing to let go of the satisfying feeling of being snuggled up in such a pleasant blanket. When the tip of her nose collided with something hard, her eyes opened in confusion. All she could see was green. Her pillowcase wasn’t green…
She pulled away from Harry’s shirt, quickly becoming aware of her surroundings. Her sitting room sofa, a throw blanket, Harry’s back against the back of the sofa, his arm resting over her hip. Ginny was too shocked to move. What the fuck had happened last night?
As if it were a film, her mind replayed the previous night. Settling down to watch Love, Actually, talking throughout the movie, scooting closer to share the blanket, how her head had used his shoulder as a pillow.
Okay, Ginny forced herself to take calming breaths, which didn’t really help anything seeing as it just filled her lungs with Harry’s woodsy scent. How does he smell so good? She mentally shook herself. Not the time, Ginny!
Slowly, she lifted Harry’s arm off her. As gently as she could, Ginny rose off the cushions, hoping not to wake Harry. Ginny picked her phone off the coffee table, checking the time. She had just over an hour before she wanted to leave for her parents’ house.
Ginny considered her options. She could wake Harry and kick him out, wake him up and talk with him, or just leave him and make herself some breakfast. It wasn’t a hard decision, as her stomach growled loudly.
It didn’t take her long to scramble some eggs and toast. As she took the kettle off the hot mat, a groan came from the sitting room. Ginny considered her options again. Deciding it would just be easier to keep everything natural, she grabbed another mug from the cupboard.
When Harry’s head stuck up over the back of the sofa, shivers ran up Ginny’s spine. She’s always had a thing for messy dark hair, and mix that with everything else Harry had going for him… I swear to God, if you don’t calm the fuck down, girl.
“And here I was gonna bring you breakfast on the sofa.” Ginny laughed as Harry nearly fell off the cushions to look at her. His charming green eyes blinked rapidly.
“I -- uh --” Harry’s voice was alluringly rough, and Ginny had to contain another shiver. He cleared his throat. “Not that your sofa wasn’t comfy or anything, but why did I sleep on it last night?”
Ginny snorted. “Because I wasn’t gonna let my almost robber sleep in my bed.”
Harry started at that. “That’s not what I --”
“We fell asleep watching the film last night,” Ginny interrupted, hoping to avoid giving Harry a heart attack.
“We --” Harry stood from the sofa and made his way over into the small kitchen. “Oh, right.” He stopped in beside the table, his forearm resting on the back of the chair. “Well, happy Christmas. I didn’t have time to get you anything, sorry.”
Ginny laughed. “Seems we’re both forgetful. Will you settle for a good breakfast?”
“Best present I’ve received all year.”
It shouldn’t feel so natural, Ginny thought as Harry set the table with utensils from the drying rack. She shouldn’t feel comfortable with him eating at her table. Fuck, she definitely should not want to crawl back into his arms. But there was something about Harry that was just -- magnetic.
They ate, chatting about nothing and yet everything. She brought up how excited she was to spend Christmas with her little nieces. Harry smiled as he told her about getting to spend the holiday with his old university mate. They talked well after their plates were clean. Ginny knew it was getting closer to the time she needed to leave, but she didn’t want to.
It wasn’t until they were cleaning the plates together (her washing, him drying), that time became real again.
“What time are you leaving?” Harry asked as he placed the dry fork into the drawer she’d shown him.
Ginny looked at the clock. “I should have left five minutes ago.”
“Oh.” Harry’s tone was casual, but Ginny swore she saw his shoulders drop. “I guess I should get going, then.”
Ginny wanted to say no. She wanted to ask him to stay, which was completely ridiculous. And yet, she wanted him to be there when she returned from her parents. Ginny wanted to curl back up on that sofa and watch another film… or not watch a film.
She was so distracted she didn’t notice that she’d been scrubbing the same plate for entirely too long until Harry’s hand came over to stop the motion. He’d moved in close, his eyes full of concern. “Are you okay?”
He was so close she only needed to lean up in order to connect their lips. It would be so simple, she even started rising onto her toes before something stopped her. She pulled back, clearing her throat. “I’m fine. Just thinking about the day.”
Harry nodded, his cheeks turning pink. “Right.” He put the flannel down on the counter before grabbing his coat off the back of the kitchen chair. He turned back to her, his hand rubbing the back of his neck. “Ginny, I -- I --” He sighed. “Enjoy your Christmas.” Then he was gone, closing the front door behind him with a gentle click.
Ginny put her head down on the kitchen counter, regret coursing through her entire body. Why the fuck hadn’t she at least gotten his number? She lifted her head to see it was well past the time she should have left. Sighing heavily, she went to go gather her presents. She needed to get going or face her mother’s wrath for being late.
 XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Harry tried to flatten his hair for the sixth time in ten minutes. There was no reason for his nerves. He was just stopping at his mate's childhood home for a bit. Harry just wished Ron had told him about the trip to Devon. When Ron has asked him to spend the holiday with him, Harry had mistakenly assumed he'd meant at his flat.
"Knock it off." Ron laughed as he turned down a long dirt road. "I told you, my mum's gonna love you, despite your inability to comb your hair."
He sent Ron a rude gesture, which just made the redhead laugh harder. The drive curved every which way, making Harry grateful he didn't get car sick. After a few minutes of winding this way and that, they pulled up in front of an old farmhouse. The foundation was off-kilter, making the rest of the building lean, but Harry loved it. It had such a homely charm between all the Wellington boots on the front porch and the chickens roaming the side garden.
Ron parked the car between a Land Rover and old Ford. He reached into the back seat, pulling a bag full of wrapped gifts. "Just a little something for everyone." Ron shrugged off Harry's inquisitive look.
They made their way through freshly shoveled paths that lead to the front door. Without knocking, Ron walked into the house calling out greetings. Harry followed behind him, looking around at all the framed photos and comfy sitting room furniture. Three men chatted while a blonde woman tended an infant.
"Ah, you must be Harry." A pleasant voice spoke from the adjoining doorway. A balding man held out his hand. "I'm Ron's father, Arthur."
Harry took the offering. "Thank you for having me."
Arthur's smile was just as calming as his voice. "Of course! Molly and I have been excited to meet the famous Harry Potter. Let me introduce you to everyone." Arthur placed a warm hand on Harry's shoulder, guiding him through the room. "There's Bill, Fred, and George over in the chairs there." He pointed to the group of men, two of whom had identical smirks. "Fleur, who is married to Bill, and their youngest, Dominique."
Fleur looked up from the baby and smiled at him. Arthur roved over to the doorway he'd come from, which lead to the kitchen. While the sitting room has been peaceful with a crackling fire, the kitchen was a storm of activity.
"And this is my lovely wife, Molly." Arthur beamed at older woman mixing some sort of batter. "Molly, Ron's friend Harry is here." Molly stopped mixing, placing the bowl down on the counter before wiping her hands on her already covered apron.
Harry expected a handshake or maybe a pat on the shoulder as a greeting, but Molly didn't do anything in halves. She pulled Harry into a bear of a hug, making him worry about his ribs cracking. “Lovely to meet you, Harry.”
“You too, Mrs. Weasley.” Harry choked the words out.
When she released him, Harry took a deep breath. “Call me Molly, dear.” She looked over her shoulder at the well-scrubbed table where two women sat. “Oh, you haven’t met Angelina and  Alicia. They’re dating the twins.” The two women gave him a welcoming grin as they continued rolling dough. “I would introduce you to our daughter, but she’s out with Vic.” Molly glanced up at the ceiling with an annoyed look, that was negated by the smile on her lips. “I asked her to help me and then like magic she was minding the little one.”
Like a summoning the back door opened wide, letting in a cheering little girl. “I won, Aunt Ginny.”
“That you did, girl, that you did!” That voice. Harry’s heart jumped into his throat, he recognized that voice. Ginny walked in, her smile wide as she looked down at her niece. “But next time you won’t be so lucky.”
Harry knew his jaw must be on the floor, but all he could do was stare. That morning all he’d wanted to do was kiss this woman, but then she’d backed away. He hadn’t wanted to push her, so he’d backed off. But fuck! She had been in his head all day. The way she seemed to heat his entire body with just one look, and how perfect it had felt when her head rested on his shoulder. Harry regretted it the moment he’d walked out her front door, he’d even considered turning around but there had been a voice in his head saying maybe it was just one-sided. That maybe she’d had pulled away from him because she didn’t want to give him false hope.
But when their eyes met in that kitchen, Harry could feel it again. That raw heat, mixed in with shock. Ginny’s mouth fell open. “You!”
“Ginny!” Molly scolded. “That’s no way to greet someone.”
Ginny turned towards her mother, blinking rapidly. After a moment she took a deep breath. “You’re right, Mum.” When her focus came back to Harry, he swore his heart skipped a beat. “So, which one of my brothers is your old uni mate?”
“Ron.” Harry was shocked that words were able to get past his tied tongue. “I -- uh --” He was very aware that everyone in the kitchen was watching them: Arthur and Molly with confused smiles, Angelina and Alicia with grins that were more impishly amused.
Ginny seemed to notice the eyes on them as well because she pointed a thumb over her shoulder towards the back door. “Care for a tour around the garden?”
 XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Ginny couldn’t stop glancing over at the man walking beside her. The entire drive over she’d cursed herself for letting him leave that morning, and now he was at her parents’? She didn’t believe in the idea of fate or destiny, but the moment she’d looked into his gorgeous eyes… Ginny started re-thinking her theory.
"So --" Harry cleared his throat. "Don't have your bat on you, right? Because I know how you respond when someone arrives unannounced."
"What?" Ginny had to reel her mind back to the present. "Oh, right! Well, I always happen to keep a spare in the boot of my car.” She stopped in the middle of the cleared path and pulled Harry to halt by the hand. When his eyes locked onto hers, warmth spread throughout her body like wildfire. She sent him what she hoped was a coy smile. “But if you’re telling me I may need it."
Harry tugged her back as she pretended to head towards her car. His pull was more powerful than she’d expected and Ginny fell right into his chest. Harry pulled back, his cheeks red from more than just the cold. “Sorry! I didn’t mean to -- I, uh --”
Ginny couldn’t take it anymore. What was the point of avoiding -- whatever this was between them? Her mind drifted back the film they’d watch the previous night. “So is this the moment I casually mention I wanna marry you, have loads of sex, and have your babies?”
If Ginny had thought his cheeks were red before, Harry put a tomato to shame at that moment. His mouth fell open as he stared at her. She could see the wheels turning behind his eyes, his memory placing the line. He closed his mouth, a hesitant smile crossing his lips. “How about we start with the second thing on your list and make our way from there?”
“I think...” Ginny wrapped her arms around his neck, bring him to her eye level. “I can live with that.” She pressed her lips to his. It didn’t take long for Harry to respond. His fingers pressed into her hips with a tantalizing pressure. With his body pressed tightly to hers and his scent (that addicting woodsy smell) filling her lungs, everything else seemed to disappear but him.
“Ginny? Oh!” Molly’s voice was the first thing to break through the fog Harry had created. Ginny pulled away to see her mother standing by the back door. In retrospect, she and Harry should have gotten out of sight of the house, but she just hadn’t been able to control herself.
Molly gave them what was supposed to be a sheepish grin, but instead her entire face glowed with delight. “I’m so sorry. I just wanted to know where she left my pie pan, but I’ll just go rummage through the cupboards. Just pretend I was never here.” And just like that, Molly was back in the house.
Ginny snorted. Her mum had never been one to see her children in their relationships. She’d expected to be told to get inside and get to work, but instead, her mother had --
Harry blinked at her, his brow cutely creased in confusion.“What’s so funny?”
“My mum just encouraged me to keep snogging you.” Ginny shook her head, unable to hold back her amusement. “She once made Ron stop holding his girlfriend’s hand.” Her eyebrows creased. “But to be fair that girl was crazy, and everyone knew it. I guessing mum just didn’t like her.”
“Oh.” Harry’s confusion cleared, slowly replaced with a bashful smile. “But you think she likes me?”
Ginny leaned up to kiss him again. “I know I do.” She reluctantly pulled out of his arms. “Hey, you’re staying for supper, right? Would you like to stay for supper?”
“Would you like to stay forever?!”
Ginny turned to the sound of her mother’s voice. Molly was hanging out the kitchen window watching the scene like an enthusiastic film watcher. All that was missing was the popcorn. “Mum!” Ginny yelled across the yard. “What are you doing?”
“I said to pretend I wasn’t there, not that I wouldn’t be there.” Molly’s mischievous smirk was clear even from a distance. “What do you say, Harry dear?”
“I --” Ginny turned back to Harry who was shaking, from what could only be silent laughter. “Oh, don’t encourage her,” she complained.
Harry laughed out loud this time. He pulled her back into his warmth, his mouth inches from hers. “And what will you do to stop me?”
“Ah!” Ginny moved her fingers up to play with the little hairs at the base of his neck. “My bat isn’t my only method of persuasion.” Harry’s breath hitched as she ran her nose along his jaw. Just as her lips hovered over his, she stepped away. “But it is one of my favorites.” She turned and started towards her car.
Looking over her shoulder, Ginny laughed at the dumbfounded look on Harry’s face. Then he shut his gaping mouth and began chasing after her. As he caught her around the middle, his nose pressed into her neck. She spun in his arms and his mouth pressed to hers in a scorching kiss. Ginny had never been happier to have someone break in through her window.
She pulled back, nuzzling her nose to his. “I’ve got to say, Harry. You’re the most satisfying burglar I’ve ever had.”
Harry snorted, “Just wait until I steal your heart.” When he brought his lips back to hers, she had to admit he was off to a good start.

Are you really considering shipping your MC with Skye instead of Penny??
Not instead of. For now, is a parallel thing. Like considering both ships and try to figure out stuff from both.
They’re both good relationship for my MC, both works good in Auror!AU (but with Skye would be exactly like Hinny, while with Penny would be Post-War but Early Romione). MCxSkye can’t work in cursebreakers!AU(you can call it “Skye is an old friend but they don’t talk because they’re both busy AU”) and MCxPenny works in both Aurors!AU(where she works for someone like Horace Slughorn or as second potion teacher at Hogwarts), and it works in Cursebreakers!AU(but i’m re-evaluating things about her…because Penny dropping everything for staying with David and have adventures with him, sounds cool but it begins to sound out of character/forced…)
But i think it’s better if i explain what started this partial change of mind:
I should, first, thank @zincgirl because while we were chatting in private about Penny and sixth year, in general, she implied(or stated) that Penny in the second year while she told us that she finds parties boring she may have lied to us; then i started to think why she may have lied to MC:
1- MC is still an outcast, with a very bad reputation only because Jacob did his own thing and The Prophet basically wrote every conceivable lie about him, sinking the [MC’s Family Name]s’ reputation in general.
2- MC hangs out with a nerd(Rowan/Rowen) which is okay, Rowan itself is not a bad person but a very quiet one, introverted and slightly shy, probably Penny thought that we were like some sort of Book/Reading Club that is dealing with the Vaults.
3- Nobody invited or showed interest in inviting MC to a party, MAYBE(but i’m not sure about it) she thought that it’s unbelievable that nobody invited us to a party, so she may have guessed that we simply refused every invite we got and by extension she guessed that we didn’t accepted party-invites because we hate them because they’re boring and after a while people stopped to invite us because we always refuse to go to those parties(It’s hard to explain it in English…sorry not native-speaker).
Those three possibilities are just a guess of mine that got triggered by ZincGirl.
(Like you may have guessed, i don’t panic if my favourite ship is attacked, i try to understand/debate with people and eventually take some time to think about the new information that i got from people and what they have to say.) (btw it seems that i’m going to analyze the entire Penny’s arc…sorry i didn’t even want to go this far…but i began it and I’ll finish it XD)
Then we have the Ice Vault, either Penny or Ben, whoever we choose, in the end, Penny still proposed to come with us, etcetera…maybe at the time she had a thing for adventures, either that or she wanted a reason to stay with us for a while and add us in her list of “people i know enough to gossip about”(ZincGirl’s Opinion, i’m cool with that).
The Third Year(or the summer after the second year) is the year where Penny is depressed, saw the death of Scarlett and in my opinion in this period her spirit for adventures may have been killed(along with Scarlett). She faced fear, panic, pain, sadness, despair…along with PTSD. I understand this, i didn’t want her to deal with scary things so i’m okay with her scared of “change”(as the idea of things changing) and being less adventurous during year 3 and 4(she still is quite present during sidequests, like Celestial Ball, the werewolf sidequest, “Merula steals from Penny”, Animagus Part 1&2, Christmas in Hogwarts..etcetera).
Moment worth of being mentioned: Penny’s arc about wanting to forget Scarlett with a potion and then showing concern for our and Jacob’s sanity/well-being.
So in the fourth year aside her presence in side-quests and some minor moments, not much to say(i should replay the game to check just to be sure but i’m lazy to re-level and gather stuff all over again only for checking something)
The Fifth Year is a tragedy for her, she should be happy to be in the same place with her sister, they’re about to be dorm-mates or at least house-mates, i understand her point to want Bea close to her, she wants to be her little sister’s guide/Cicero, she wants to help her to see the beauty of Hogwarts and catch up with her, because while Penny was in Hogwarts(before the fifth year) Bea was at home with their parents. I was like her when my brothers joined my middle school, i felt happy to have them with me or talk together during lunch.
Everything goes to hell in 2-3 chapters, Penny goes back to sharpen her fighting spirit, and damn if i wasn’t happy! I was like “Yuhù! Penny is back in the team! Finally, she has a reason to be a powerful and badass character and fight with us!”….i was disappointed soon enough when after that marvellous chapter when she faces our old nemesis(the acromantula that ate 12 students during the whole fourth year ) She goes in a full depression filled with stress and anxiety. It’s a natural reaction but at the same time i was disappointed, i was sure that someone was about to learn how it feels to fight everything just for saving a sibling. I was sure that the fifth year would have been MC and Penny facing a curse together…but no, we have Penny saying that she finally understands us(a couple of time) but honestly i don’t think she truly understood MC’s situation, she may have got the general idea but MC is someone who since the first day in Hogwarts, wanted to discover the truth about their brother and went for it, alone or not, MC is simply fighting and facing everything since the very beginning, while Penny only wanted to know where Bea was and then help us indirectly, like from the backlines but without being directly involved until we break in the Portrait-Vault.
Now the important thing about the fifth year: At the end of the year she mentions our brother right after we saved her sister, MC just saw Jacob choosing to chase Rakepick instead of having a more decent reunion, MC is happy but disappointed from the fact that probably that was not the happy reunion they were dreaming about, Penny’s words hurt like a needle in the ribs or like someone playing with an almost-healed wound, it stings and it’s annoying because it doesn’t hurt enough to cry or be mad, but it still hurts. She apologizes almost instantly that’s why I and my MC try to be forgiving but it’s still painful because those words feel like she didn’t understand like she actually said at the beginning of the year.
The Sixth Year starts(and JC liked to put drama over drama over drama and ruins every character for the sake of making new character’s arcs) and Bea is a rebel, i’m cool with that, i will not bring up their argument, i care about both(and so my MC) but it’s their problem, a normal person would avoid to intruding in it. So Penny asks us to keep an eye over Bea, for her, because Bea is changed and stuff, the point here is that she brings up again Jacob, and again that feeling, but this time feels less like an accident and more like a manipulative move, subtle but obvious, she is not sorry, she didn’t apologize, i’m okay with the fact that she is worried for her sister(i was when my brothers and sister began puberty and changing and trying to be more independent, i wasn’t okay with that at first, like Penny but then i saw that my younger siblings were okay, that everything around them was decently fine and moved on…) but MC at this point helped their friends so much and so often that her mention about Jacob it’s useless and toxic(and honestly: a bitch move). Not only that but we have to be the “influential voice” in her argument with Bea, they both want that MC sides with them (and again this one is a bitch move but from both of them, a normal person wouldn’t even try to bring a stranger in a family-matter unless that stranger is a therapist/psychologist
I can agree that Penny helped with some exciting and useful gossip and some good potions but that aside? She is quite optional for the vault-hunting
The date with her is bloody fantastic sure(i’m the first one to say that) but i’m focusing on the canon…and honestly i feel like JC put her everywhere for no reason and although i like it…it’s like they made a character that loves everything and hates nothing…it’s weird i’m happy to see her on-screen but at the same time it’s like they’re slowly ruining her…
Okay soon we’ll have a nice Penny+MC’s moment during chapter 12(no spoiler, but i read it and i like it in the datamined chapters) but in general i rationalized over @zincgirl‘s thoughts and this is what came out from my mind…
———————————————————————————-
And i finished with Penny, i can’t say much else
Now with Skye will be a short thing:
Skye is from a family of quidditch players, she has lot of expectations on her, she didn’t appear much(only in the quidditch side-quest)…i like her personality she is a cool girl, no pretence, apparently down to earth but ambitious, that works hard, and most important: She didn’t quit after one messy situation. Maybe because she is not involved(yet, and i hope nothing will change) with the vaults…so for my MC having someone completely disconnected(and i mean that doesn’t even talk about it) from the vault but still indirectly affected(like every other student in Hogwarts) is a nice way to “run away” from his own stress, depression, paranoia, PTSD, anger issues. Like quidditch is the only place where David can’t/must not think about that kind of stuff and can focus on something else…just that…it’s plain simple and probably a clichè…but my MC is that kind of person, he would pay to be like everyone else but God/Destiny/Fate/Truth/Allah(anyone who may be “divine or god-like”) said “NOPE, you’re the hero of Hogwarts and now go to have nightmares while some crazy guy tries to kill you!”
Sorry for the long post and for being so late(had many personal emergencies)

For the ship rating thing, how about Hinny, Drarry and Wolfstar?
Hinny - A+: OTP
Definitely my #1 actual OTP. I think my favorite thing about Hinny is that they’re not so much a slow burn as a firework. Like, they’re friends and all, but then the whole thing is just, “WOAH, GINNY!” and I love it.
The only down side is that Ginny’s entire, “Oop, I’m out on saving the world, I’ll be over here playing pro quidditch like a boss!” thing means it’s hard to write fic where Harry and Ginny go on adventures.
Drarry - D: I’m neutral on it
I really go back and forth on Drarry. Like, literally, it ranges from a B to an E depending on how much I’ve been annoyed by overbearing Drarry content recently and how much general misery I’m in the mood for.
Like, it’s just not gonna work with the canon, any real hope died in book 5, the inquisitorial squad was where Draco chose his side. It’s a fun ship to play with if you’re looking for angst, but I’m not into that kind of angst at the moment.
On the other hand, two of my all-time favorite fics are Drarry ones (one of them in an AU where the bad blood didn’t exist), so I can’t say I hate the ship. More generally, there’s a ton of really excellent Drarry case fic, and I’m definitely willing to read Drarry if the story is good.
Wolfstar - B: It’s really cute
I saw the PoA movie before I started reading the books, and I saw Sirius and Remus in the movie and my immediate take on them was, “Oh, they’re in love, but media is never going to admit that, I wonder how long it’s going to be before one of them gets an attack of the notgays.”
(I was very cynical about queer rep in media in the early aughts, because I have this thing called pattern recognition.)
But yeah, still into Wolfstar in 2019. My current preference in this regard is domestic, fairly fluffy but mildly angsty “Sirius and Remus raising Harry” stuff.

THE LEAD UP TO HARRY/GINNY
So, I see a lot of people saying Harry Potter/Ginny Weasley was ‘forced’ felt ‘rushed’ etc.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hinny was lead up to for 5 books, son! :) In no way is that rushed.
Harry and Gin’s love story is basically one of bad timing, where themes, foreshadowing, language and characterization have been used to slowly establish Ginny as special in Harry’s life, and forge the foundation on which their relationship is built in book 6.
I have receipts. :D
LONG ‘ESSAY’ ABOUT H/G BUILDUP IN BOOKS 1-5:
Book 1 - first girl he meets
Tumblr media
she’s the first weasley kid/first nice kid he even hears speak actually
And there’s this brief description of him watching her I find very poetic:
The train began to move. Harry saw the boys’ mother waving  and their sister, half laughing, half crying, running to keep up with the train until it gathered too much speed; then she fell back and waved. Harry watched the girl and her mother disappear as the train rounded the corner.
Book 2- giant book of foreshadowing
Tumblr media
So, this book ties Ginny and Harry thematically, establishes certain patterns with them, ties Gin to the main themes of the books very inextricably, ties her to Harry in a way no other character is tied, and also establishes her as a future love interest for Harry.
In NO way am I saying Harry had romantic notions about her at this point in the series (heck no! He’s just 12!)- but rather from a writing perspective, things were put in place to establish future H/G goodness.
From the get go, she is described, again, in somewhat cute/‘poetic’ language
At that moment there was a diversion in the form of a small, red-headed figure in a long nightdress, who appeared in the kitchen, gave a small squeal, and ran out again.
--
Harry just caught sight of a pair of bright brown eyes staring at him before it closed with a snap.
--
Ginny seemed very prone to knocking things over whenever Harry entered a room. She dived under the table to retrieve the bowl and emerged with her face glowing like the setting sun.
--
“Oh, are you starting at Hogwarts this year?” Harry asked Ginny. She nodded, blushing to the roots of her flaming hair, and put her elbow in the butter dish. Fortunately no one saw this except Harry’
So she’s this adorable little winsome gal who Harry (established as pretty effing rude about most girls/women he describe), is giving language I’d love to have written about me even now, as a full-grown married woman.
So, of course we start off book 2 with Ginny being a shy little sister, who has a crush on her brother best friend/is enamored with the boy hero. Even though she could have been written as burdensome or annoying to Harry- he never once feels that way about her (even when tackled by that cupid dwarf with her singing valentine.)
To the contrary, he’s always quite sweet with her, giving her his books, notices when she’s out of sorts, pulls out his wand to expelliarmus Draco when he’s taunting Ginny by holding her diary (which mirrors Ron’s going after Draco when Draco was calling Hermione mudblood),  and then he freaking saves her.
Also, let’s point out a silly things: Draco calls Gin Harry’s girlfriend in book 2. ;)  How’s THAT for romantic foreshadowing? :)
“Leave him alone, he didn’t want all that!” said Ginny. It was the first time she had spoken in front of Harry. She was glaring at Malfoy.“Potter, you’ve got yourself a girlfriend!” drawled Malfoy.
The language when he saves her, again, has emotional resonance than he had for almost anyone else in the series for the first few books- THIS IS NOT ROMANTIC- just establishes a theme of how Harry considers her and has a soft spot for her (seriously, read this, then go back and read his underwhelming reaction to Ron possibly being severely injured in PS/SS with the chess match… like… for reals):
He couldn’t not go, not now they had found the entrance to the Chamber, not if there was even the faintest, slimmest, wildest chance that Ginny might be alive.
And between the feet [of the statue’s robes], facedown, lay a small, black-robed figure with flaming-red hair.
“Ginny!” Harry muttered, sprinting to her and dropping to his knees. “Ginny — don’t be dead — please don’t be dead —” He flung his wand aside, grabbed Ginny’s shoulders, and turned her over. Her face was white as marble, and as cold, yet her eyes were closed, so she wasn’t Petrified. But then she must be —
“Ginny, please wake up,” Harry muttered desperately, shaking her. Ginny’s head lolled hopelessly from side to side.’
Tumblr media
Also, in this book, though it’s quick little bits here and there, they establish also how Harry and Gin instinctively ‘get’ one another, despite their lack of interaction- like when she defends Harry to Draco with ‘he didn’t want all that’- or when he keep Ron from prying after he saves Gin
“I’ll explain when we get out of here,” said Harry with a sideways glance at Ginny, who was crying harder than ever.
“But —”
“Later,” Harry said shortly. He didn’t think it was a good idea to tell Ron yet who’d been opening the Chamber, not in front of Ginny,
This is how their dynamic works later in the series- they just get each other’s motivations/needs. Even this early on, hints of their dynamic is established - as hey, some people just get one another- even when they are platonic childhood friends.
So on top of all the above, she’s connected to him in that she knows horcruxes and Tom Riddle basically better than anyone, really. (I was sort of bummed they didn’t use this more later, though DAMN is she doesn’t sass Harry out of yelling in book 5 over it :D). She introduces one of the most important things in the series- needing to know Voldemort, Voldemort’s soul imprints, and how to defeat horcuxes.
Only four characters have ever had the mental influence of a horcrux, that we know of- Harry, Ginny, Ron and Hermione. Of them all, only Harry and Ginny ever really got perspective on Riddle/Voldemort- vs Ron and Herm were influenced, not sharing back and forth. This makes Ginny stand out thematically from any other character in the series- that she shares this connection with Harry.
Harry saves her in probably the most traditionally romantic/fantasy driven/fairy tale way- literally the hero saves a damsel in distress from a giant reptile with a sword- but Rowling subverts this by having them literally have no romance build from there for another 4 books- because they are kids.
So yeah- she’s established early on, writing-wise, as a future flame for him, and tied them very closely.
Book 3 - briefest of shared moments
Tumblr media
Ginny is barely present in this book, but despite her crush making her rather mute in front of him- they have a share moment of humor (which seems to be a big connection for the two of them- the two always catching each other’s eye and smirking at eachother later in the series.)
“Ah, there’s Penelope!” said Percy, smoothing his hair and going pink again. Ginny caught Harry’s eye, and they both turned away to hide their laughter as Percy strode over to a girl with long, curly hair, walking with his chest thrown out so that she couldn’t miss his shiny badge.
Both are deeply affected by dementors (along with Nev, though his is just mentioned as being pale along with Gin) on the train.
Ginny, who was huddled in her corner looking nearly as bad as Harry felt, gave a small sob; Hermione went over and put a comforting arm around her. “But didn’t any of you — fall off your seats?” said Harry awkwardly. “No,” said Ron, looking anxiously at Harry again. “Ginny was shaking like mad, though…”
And she gives him another card when he’s in the hospital (which he keeps, even though he hard to literally keep it under a fruit bowl so it won’t sing anymore- he’s dispassionately thrown out Hagrid’s rock cakes and Ron and Hermione’s gifts he actually enjoyed before- so here he is, still having a tender (but platonic) spot for Ginny.)
Book 4- character establishment and missed opportunities
Tumblr media
So, again, Ginny isn’t around much in this book. She still blushes around him a little, but is able to smile and talk with him much more easily, especially about the twins’ joke shop endeavors, and definitely has a lot more of her sass come out (fleetingly saw a couple of times of it in book 3).
She’s still not included in any of the trio’s antics (not even being told about Sirius’s innocence)- and they mainly establish that she has a great sense of humor like her brothers, laughing a lot at things Harry and Ron do (while Hermione can’t bring herself to laugh, b/c it’s hermione), and being compassionate as per usual to people and animals alike (as in book 3).
Anyways, the main thing that stands out in this book- is the missed opportunity for all the main characters to go out with their future romantic partner/s.
Ron and Hermione don’t go to the ball.
Harry and Ginny don’t go to the ball.
Harry and Cho don’t go to the ball.
It’s a big missed moment for them all, really. :P
So yeah- we all are very aware of all that yule ball, who is going out with who drama-
Anyways, another moment I like is Weasleys are always his escape - and she’s a part of that. :
Fred, George, and Ginny came to sit next to [Ron and Harry] too, and Harry was having such a good time he felt almost as though he were back at the Burrow; he had forgotten to worry about that evening’s task, and not until Hermione turned up, halfway through lunch, did he remember that she had had a brainwave about Rita Skeeter.
Book 5 - Establishing the foundation through interactions, themes and language.

So, this is where we get to see full-out Ginny. No longer is it just hints at her sass, pieces of her compassion, tiny shared moments between her and Harry- oooh no. This book is where we finally have Ginny’s full glory out and about, and it’s awesome. She is ballsy, she is cool, and lord help me, I love her so much. JKR establishes a very very firm foundation for a romantic relationship between them to blossom in this book.
From the get go, Ginny is on point.
So a quick exploration of how awesome Ginny is:
The door opened and a long mane of red hair appeared. “Oh hello, Harry!” said Ron’s younger sister, Ginny, brightly. “I thought I heard your voice.”
This is after he was screaming, and had just been teased by the twins for it. Again that poetic language is used for her, and she’s now part of his gang- and intimate along with Ron and Hermione (or as close as anyone can get) with his plans and life.
Like, I could go on forever about how cool Gin in this book, but I’ve literally written pages at this point. Suffice it to say- she kicks arse - like, she’s hangin with the twin and being cool in Grimmauld place, she’s kicking butt at quidditch, she’s flying into Smith when he’s an arse, she’s known for her bat bogey hex.
“Yeah, size is no guarantee of power,” said George. “Look at Ginny.” “What d’you mean?” said Harry. “You’ve never been on the receiving end of one of her Bat-Bogey Hexes, have you?”
And she’s compassionate too, as she’s kind to Luna and Neville a whole bunch in this book
“I’m nobody,” said Neville hurriedly. “No you’re not,” said Ginny sharply. “Neville Longbottom — Luna Lovegood.”
She and Harry share grins and laughs throughout the book
Well, hello there!” [Lockhart] said. “I expect you’d like my autograph, would you?” “Hasn’t changed much, has he?” Harry muttered to Ginny, who grinned.
So yeah, Ginny is amazing, so it’s not really a surprise that the next book, when Harry is no longer crushing on Cho, he takes notice.
The main points of connection between Harry and Gin are that: a few times in this book he relies on her to help him emotionally, or she just steps up to do it- at times she does it better than any other pier of his, including Ron and Hermione.
The first moment where she really helps Harry out is on the Hogwarts Express:
The train was gathering still more speed, so that the houses outside the window flashed past and they swayed where they stood. “Shall we go and find a compartment, then?” Harry asked Ron and Hermione. Ron and Hermione exchanged looks.
“Er,” said Ron.
“We’re — well — Ron and I are supposed to go into the prefect carriage,” Hermione said awkwardly. Ron wasn’t looking at Harry; he seemed to have become intensely interested in the fingernails on his left hand.
“Oh,” said Harry. “Right. Fine.”
“I don’t think we’ll have to stay there all journey,” said Hermione quickly. “Our letters said we just get instructions from the Head Boy and Girl and then patrol the corridors from time to time.”
“Fine,” said Harry again. “Well, I-I might see you later, then.”
“Yeah, definitely,” said Ron, casting a shifty, anxious look at Harry. “It’s a pain having to go down there, I’d rather — but we have to — I mean, I’m not enjoying it, I’m not Percy,” he finished defiantly.
“I know you’re not,” said Harry and he grinned. But as Hermione and Ron dragged their trunks, Crookshanks, and a caged Pigwidgeon off toward the engine end of the train, Harry felt an odd sense of loss. He had never traveled on the Hogwarts Express without Ron.
“Come on,” Ginny told him, “if we get a move on we’ll be able to save them places.”
So back to school they go, and poor Harry is all alone and a bit lost as to what to do with himself when Ron and Hermione leave him for prefect stuff. Ginny immediately takes charge and is super sweet, finding him a compartment, hanging with him and Neville and Luna. I’d like to point out, she didn’t HAVE to help him out at all. She has her own friends in her year (who hail her over the second they’re in the great hall) and a boyfriend- she’s just being awesome.
She then comforts him about Cho for a sec (as she gets the whole trying to look cool
Harry slumped back in his seat and groaned. He would have liked Cho to discover him sitting with a group of very cool people laughing their heads off at a joke he had just told; he would not have chosen to be sitting with Neville and Loony Lovegood, clutching a toad and dripping in Stinksap.
“Never mind,” said Ginny bracingly. “Look, we can get rid of all this easily.” She pulled out her wand. “Scourgify!” The Stinksap vanished.
Ginny, unlike the other young ladies in Harry’s life, has the ability to bring calm to the storm at times with pointed humor. Like the first DA meeting, when Luna and Hermione break into a fight that derails the whole thing:
“Yes, he’s got an army of heliopaths,” said Luna solemnly.
“No, he hasn’t,” snapped Hermione.
“Yes, he has,” said Luna.
“What are heliopaths?” asked Neville, looking blank.
“They’re spirits of fire,” said Luna, her protuberant eyes widening so that she looked madder than ever. “Great tall flaming creatures that gallop across the ground burning everything in front of —”
“They don’t exist, Neville,” said Hermione tartly. “Oh yes they do!” said Luna angrily.
“I’m sorry, but where’s the proof of that?” snapped Hermione.
“There are plenty of eyewitness accounts, just because you’re so narrow-minded you need to have everything shoved under your nose before you —”
“Hem, hem,” said Ginny in such a good imitation of Professor Umbridge that several people looked around in alarm and then laughed. “Weren’t we trying to decide how often we’re going to meet and get Defense lessons?”
Ginny is able to calm him where no one else can when he’s afraid after he’s had the dream with Mr Weasley- not only de-escalating him, but also cheering him up, while standing up to him full on and able to snap him out of it and make him listen:
[Hermione] sat down next to Ginny, and the two girls and Ron looked up at Harry. “How’re you feeling?” asked Hermione.
“Fine,” said Harry stiffly. “Oh, don’t lie, Harry,” she said impatiently.
“Ron and Ginny say you’ve been hiding from everyone since you got back from St. Mungo’s.”
“They do, do they?” said Harry, glaring at Ron and Ginny. Ron looked down at his feet but Ginny seemed quite unabashed. “Well, you have!” she said. “And you won’t look at any of us!”
“It’s you lot who won’t look at me!” said Harry angrily.
“Maybe you’re taking it in turns to look and keep missing each other,” suggested Hermione, the corners of her mouth twitching. “Very funny,” snapped Harry, turning away.
“Oh, stop feeling all misunderstood,” said Hermione sharply. “Look, the others have told me what you overheard last night on the Extendable Ears —”
“Yeah?” growled Harry, his hands deep in his pockets as he watched the snow now falling thickly outside. “All been talking about me, have you? Well, I’m getting used to it… .”
“We wanted to talk to you, Harry,” said Ginny, “but as you’ve been hiding ever since we got back —”
“I didn’t want anyone to talk to me,” said Harry, who was feeling more and more nettled.
“Well, that was a bit stupid of you,” said Ginny angrily, “seeing as you don’t know anyone but me who’s been possessed by You-KnowWho, and I can tell you how it feels.” Harry remained quite still as the impact of these words hit him. Then he turned on the spot to face her.
“I forgot,” he said.
“Lucky you,” said Ginny coolly.
“I’m sorry,” Harry said, and he meant it.
“So … so do you think I’m being possessed, then?”
“Well, can you remember everything you’ve been doing?” Ginny asked. “Are there big blank periods where you don’t know what you’ve been up to?” Harry racked his brains. “No,” he said.
“Then You-Know-Who hasn’t ever possessed you,” said Ginny simply. “When he did it to me, I couldn’t remember what I’d been doing for hours at a time. I’d find myself somewhere and not know how I got there.”
Harry hardly dared believe her, yet his heart was lightening almost in spite of himself.
[Herm and Harry give input on how he was in bed the whole time and no one apparated into hogwarts]. I’m not the weapon after all, thought Harry. His heart swelled with happiness and relief, and he felt like joining in as they heard Sirius tramping past their door toward Buckbeak’s room, singing “God Rest Ye Merry, Hippogriffs” at the top of his voice.
So yeah- Ginny was able to bring him peace of mind in a way LITERALLY NO ONE ELSE COULD.
She goes on to bolster him about his quidditch ban (and is the only person to really do so, it seems) and then again shows her ability to ‘get’ him:
“Good catch,” Harry told Ginny back in the common room, where the atmosphere closely resembled that of a particularly dismal funeral.
“I was lucky,” she shrugged. “It wasn’t a very fast Snitch and Summerby’s got a cold, he sneezed and closed his eyes at exactly the wrong moment. Anyway, once you’re back on the team —”
“Ginny, I’ve got a lifelong ban.”
“You’re banned as long as Umbridge is in the school,” Ginny corrected him. “There’s a difference. Anyway, once you’re back, I think I’ll try out for Chaser. Angelina and Alicia are both leaving next year and I prefer goal-scoring to Seeking anyway.”
Harry looked over at Ron, who was hunched in a corner, staring at his knees, a bottle of butterbeer clutched in his hand. “Angelina still won’t let him resign,” Ginny said, as though reading Harry’s mind.
Then she inspires hope in him, yet again:
“It’s Easter eggs from Mum,” said Ginny. “There’s one for you… . There you go… .” She handed him a handsome chocolate egg decorated with small, iced Snitches and, according to the packaging, containing a bag of Fizzing Whizbees. Harry looked at it for a moment, then, to his horror, felt a hard lump rise in his throat.
“Are you okay, Harry?” asked Ginny quietly.
“Yeah, I’m fine,” said Harry gruffly. The lump in his throat was painful. He did not understand why an Easter egg should have made him feel like this.
“You seem really down lately,” Ginny persisted. “You know, I’m sure if you just talked to Cho …”
“It’s not Cho I want to talk to,” said Harry brusquely.
“Who is it, then?” asked Ginny.
“I …” He glanced around to make quite sure that nobody was listening; Madam Pince was several shelves away, stamping out a pile of books for a frantic-looking Hannah Abbott. “I wish I could talk to Sirius,” he muttered. “But I know I can’t.” More to give himself something to do than because he really wanted any, Harry unwrapped his Easter egg, broke off a large bit, and put it into his mouth.
“Well,” said Ginny slowly, helping herself to a bit of egg too, “if you really want to talk to Sirius, I expect we could think of a way to do it… .”
“Come on,” said Harry hopelessly. “With Umbridge policing the fires and reading all our mail?”
“The thing about growing up with Fred and George,” said Ginny thoughtfully, “is that you sort of start thinking anything’s possible if you’ve got enough nerve.” Harry looked at her.
Perhaps it was the effect of the chocolate — Lupin had always advised eating some after encounters with dementors — or simply because he had finally spoken aloud the wish that had been burning inside him for a week, but he felt a bit more hopeful… .
So on top of ALL THAT- there are literary themes tying Ginny and Cho together. His current flame is somehow always getting cocurrently talked about or written about with Ginny flitting around in there. Ginny and Cho’s lives mirror each other, or they are inexplicably linked in scenes. We see scenes where they intersect, Ginny and Cho are in competetition (note, Ginny always wins), and their love lives seem to twist into one another’s. Coincidence?! I think not! :D
“Ginny used to fancy Harry, but she gave up on him months ago. Not that she doesn’t like you, of course,” she added kindly to Harry while she examined a long black-and-gold quill. Harry, whose head was still full of Cho’s parting wave, did not find this subject quite as interesting as Ron, who was positively quivering with indignation, but it did bring something home to him that until now he had not really registered.
“So that’s why she talks now?” he asked Hermione. “She never used to talk in front of me.”
“Exactly,” said Hermione. [hermione shops]
Ron still breathing down her neck. “Ron,” she said severely as she turned and trod on his feet, “this is exactly why Ginny hasn’t told you she’s seeing Michael, she knew you’d take it badly. So don’t harp on about it, for heaven’s sake.”
“What d’you mean, who’s taking anything badly? I’m not going to harp on about anything …”
Ron continued to chunter under his breath all the way down the street. Hermione rolled her eyes at Harry and then said in an undertone, while Ron was muttering imprecations about Michael Corner, “And talking about Michael and Ginny … what about Cho and you?”
Somewhat to Harry’s disappointment, it was Ginny who managed to find Cho Chang and her friend first
“The Defense Association?” said Cho. “The D.A. for short, so nobody knows what we’re talking about?”
“Yeah, the D.A.’s good,” said Ginny. “Only let’s make it stand for Dumbledore’s Army because that’s the Ministry’s worst fear, isn’t it?” There was a good deal of appreciative murmuring and laughter at this.
“All in favor of the D.A.?” said Hermione bossily, kneeling up on her cushion to count. “That’s a majority — motion passed!”
Harry glimpsed Ron and Ginny skimming over the stands and felt a horrible pang that he was not up there with them… . “You really miss it, don’t you?” said Cho.
“Yeah,” said Ron slowly, savoring the words, “we won. Did you see the look on Chang’s face when Ginny got the Snitch right out from under her nose?”
“I suppose she cried, did she?” said Harry bitterly.
“Well, yeah — more out of temper than anything, though …”
Harry looked around. Cho was passing, accompanied by Marietta Edgecombe, who was wearing a balaclava. His and Cho’s eyes met for a moment. Cho blushed and kept walking. Harry looked back down at the chessboard just in time to see one of his pawns chased off its square by Ron’s knight.
“What’s — er — going on with you and her anyway?” Ron asked quietly.
“Nothing,” said Harry truthfully.
“I — er — heard she’s going out with someone else now,” said Hermione tentatively. Harry was surprised to find that this information did not hurt at all. Wanting to impress Cho seemed to belong to a past that was no longer quite connected with him. [paragraph about Sirius’s death]
“You’re well out of it, mate,” said Ron forcefully. “I mean, she’s quite good-looking and all that, but you want someone a bit more cheerful.”
“She’s probably cheerful enough with someone else,” said Harry, shrugging.
“Who’s she with now anyway?” Ron asked Hermione, but it was Ginny who answered.
“Michael Corner,” she said. “Michael — but —” said Ron, craning around in his seat to stare at her. “But you were going out with him!”
“Not anymore,” said Ginny resolutely. “He didn’t like Gryffindor beating Ravenclaw at Quidditch and got really sulky, so I ditched him and he ran off to comfort Cho instead.” […]
“Well, I always thought he was a bit of an idiot,” [Ron] said, prodding his queen forward toward Harry’s quivering castle. “Good for you. Just choose someone — better — next time.” He cast Harry an oddly furtive look as he said it.
“Well, I’ve chosen Dean Thomas, would you say he’s better?” asked Ginny vaguely. “WHAT?” shouted Ron,
