Wild to me that people choose to be in whatever field ever and here I am accidentally an IT person. Like some people went to school to be dentists. And what do I do? Look at computers, I guess. It doesn't feel like much of a specialty.
#speculation nation#i KNOW it is but it just feels so normal to me.#and it's not like im an expert in computers or anything.#but as an IT student i dont have to be just Yet.#bc my schooling was more about learning about the overall processes and how systems work.#with Some computer education. more in depth than an average person's knowledge at least.#once i start at a company then they'll teach me more about their specific system. and i'll become a specialist in That.#my degree isnt to learn all about coding. leave that for the computer scientists.#my degree is to understand how technology functions in a business environment. and how to make things as efficient as possible.#i Am looking forward to when i can just say i work in IT tho. it's a very mundane sounding job. i like that.

Description
Welcome to – Learn Ethical Hacking From A-Z: Beginner To Expert Course! This practical, hands-on course was created for newbies – that’s to say, people with no prior training or knowledge in hacking and cybersecurity. The aim of this course is to give you the education not just to understand what black-hat hatters do and how, but also to learn exactly how to hack systems like a pro and win the cat and mouse game by securing systems like a professional security expert. Blending practical work with solid theoretical training, we take you from the basics of ethical hacking through to mastery, giving you the training you need not just to hack, but also to secure against a hack. While the theory is important, we understand that it can also be dry and uninspiring. For this reason, this course is packed with examples that you can follow. This practical focus starts from the beginning, where we will teach you about penetration testing and show you how to install the software required (Windows, Linux, and Mac OSX) and jump right into hacking. Throughout, you will analyze and exploit various systems from regular websites through to sprawling networks, along with hacking servers and clients. More than just hacking, you’ll also learn how to conduct efficient penetration testing techniques. This approach gives you the foundational education that you need not just to hack any given system, but also to secure it, with each module covering both sides of the coin. The course covers six main areas:
1: LEARN THE FUNDAMENTALS NECESSARY TO BECOME A HACKER
This foundational section gives you a full introduction to the basics of networking systems – how they communicate and work – and is designed to give you the knowledge you need to succeed in this course. BASICS OF NETWORKING: Networking can be an intimidating topic, but don’t worry! We break down only the necessary things that you need to know in regards to networking and teach you important networking fundamentals SETTING UP A HACKING LAB: You can’t hack without a lab! We walk you step-by-step through the process of setting up your own hacking lab on your laptop or desktop computer! LINUX + SCRIPTING BASICS: Hackers use Linux, which is an OS that the average person may have no experience with. We will go over Linux fundamentals so that you can easily navigate your way through Linux during this course. We also touch on a couple of scripting languages that are a MUST for any ethical hacker and teach you the basics of each one with practical examples. HIDING YOUR IDENTITY ON THE WEB: If you are hacking on the internet, you need to learn how to remain anonymous. We will show you the tools and techniques that you can use to always remain anonymous and unknown on the internet.
2: LEARN HOW TO HACK NETWORKS
This section shows you how to test both wired and wireless systems. You will learn how to go from not having any access to a network to gaining access and being able to begin attacking systems on the network. PRE-CONNECTION ATTACK: Not all attacks require you to be connected to the target or even know the password. Learn how to discover and manipulate devices connected to a network and gather information about your target. GAIN ACCESS TO NETWORKS: Learn how to use the information you have about your target to crack the key and get the access password. This section covers multiple protocols including WEP, WPA, and WPA2. POST-CONNECTION ATTACKS: With a key, you can now leverage powerful hacking techniques to get even more information. Learn how to see what users are doing on a network, inject code in pages, and more on wired and wireless networks
3: HOW TO GAIN ACCESS AND CONNECT TO NETWORKS
This section builds on the lessons learned in section one, showing you how you can get full control and hack into any computer system that you target. SERVER-SIDE ATTACK: Discover how to harvest information about your targeted system – its OS, open ports, and installed services – without user interaction. Then use this information to exploit vulnerabilities and generate reports. CLIENT-SIDE ATTACK: Learn how to hack systems with no vulnerabilities by sneaking in with software updates or using backdoor trojan downloads. You’ll also learn the art of social engineering – or tricking people into giving you information.
4: HOW TO LEVERAGE POST EXPLOITATION
This section shifts the focus on interacting with compromised systems. Now that you have gained access, you’ll learn how you can exploit these systems. ACCESS FILE SYSTEMS: All systems have a wealth of files that you can now manipulate with your access. Learn how to access these systems and how to read, write, upload, and even execute files. MAINTAIN ACCESS: Gaining access to a system and its files is only half of the battle. Learn how to maintain your access and frustrate efforts to secure it again so you can continue to exploit a system. SPY ON YOUR TARGET: Learn how to capture any keystrokes on a keyboard, turn on a computer webcam, take screenshots, and even take control of the system to attack, hack, and access third-party networks and systems.
5: HOW TO HACK WEBSITES AND WEB APPS
In this section, you will learn more about how you can hack into websites and web applications using Kali Linux. You’ll also learn how web applications work – and how to find vulnerabilities within these applications for you to exploit. > How to scan websites/web applications for vulnerabilities to exploit. > How to Brute Force into web applications. > Learn how to conduct SQL injection in web applications. > How to conduct Cross-Site Request Forgery (CSRF). > How to exploit File Inclusion Vulnerabilities. > Learn how to exploit File Upload Vulnerabilities. > How to automate attacking web applications using various tools. > How to prevent and secure websites & apps yourself.

What School Is Like During the Covid19 Pandemic
Diego Padilla
For a large majority of students (like myself), the Covid19 pandemic has been an experience unlike any other. Policies such as stay at home orders, mask wearing, and other infection prevention guidelines haven’t been prevalent since the Spanish Flu of 1918, which few are around to remember. One of the biggest changes however, has been the transition from in-person learning to distance learning, which essentially means that most schools have gone online. This has also effectively eliminated any large school events, such as sports games, in-person standardized testing, club/academic team meetings, and much more. Even though many students find that online school has left them with a lot of extra time, I’ve noticed that it pales in comparison to the quality of education that physical classes have to offer, and heavily limits students.
It’s Now Much Harder to Communicate With Teachers
During the final three months of my last school year, it became clear to me that moving learning online created an overall loss of communication between students and teachers, especially during the transitional period. The initial assignments were sometimes confusing to follow, and the lack of physical interaction between us and some of our teachers made completing them a very irritating process. Additionally, I found that for some of my classes, I would often have no idea when things were due, at least not until the third or fourth week of online school (which at this point, our school had assigned us an online schedule that gave us check in periods for our classes). This new restriction not only put us students in a frustrating position however, but also our teachers. The increase in emails by us students made responses by teachers much slower, which resulted in grade fixes and incorrect scores on tests much more stressful to get fixed.
AP Test Prep Became More Difficult, Despite the Tests Becoming Easier
For many AP students, this testing season was very stressful, not only because of distance learning, but also due to the complete transformation of the exams. Now that AP exams had to be online, the College Board had shortened and drastically cut many parts of the exam, meaning the time spent studying for these portions of the course was essentially wasted. Though the topics on the exams were limited to only first semester course material, the new short length of the exam, coupled with the fact that there would be multiple different exams per AP course, made it impossible to pinpoint what subjects would be the most important to the test. Case in point, for AP U.S. History students like myself, this meant that the one essay that decided our score could be based on an important topic or event anywhere in the span of 200 years. And while the shortened versions of the exams were easier in many ways, it was still stressful to study for, especially knowing that your lack of in-depth knowledge in a single topic could potentially be the difference between a high and a low score (It is worth noting however, that this will likely be a different experience for incoming AP students, now that College Board has the data and feedback from the first round of online exams that they need to improve their testing).
The Lack of Physical Social Interaction Made Classes Less Enjoyable
I never truly realized how important social interaction was to making class more enjoyable until the Covid19 pandemic. In this new era of online school, the classes feel more like audio books, and the lack of interaction between students and teachers was very apparent, especially because most students choose to keep their webcams off. This made lectures more boring, and harder to listen to than the in-person classes that we used to have. Learning with these new barriers wasn’t impossible by any means, but much less appealing to the average student, especially considering the fact with every computer, distractions are readily available. It also didn’t feel the same to go to “school” without really ever talking to your classmates, which was never possible considering that teachers would keep students muted for a large part of class (to reduce distractions). The teachers that did encourage interaction between students, however, were often met with silence by most of the class, and only the normally outspoken students would speak up. Despite all of these negative changes however, there were some benefits that made online school more manageable, and less unbearable.
More Free Time
At my school, because teachers could not be expected to keep students online for multiple hours, the class times were much shorter. Our normal class time, which was an hour per period, was now reduced to 20-40 minutes per class, at only three classes per day (and for the students taking more niche classes like computer science or art courses, some days there were no classes at all). This gave us much more time to complete our work and study for exams, making it easier to get better grades overall. In addition to this, busy work became less impactful on our grades, as we had the time to complete it now. Overall, it felt more free despite being an inferior experience to in-person classes, and even gave me the opportunity to introduce exercise into my lifestyle.
School Work Was Easier (though less impactful)
The advent of online school limited the possibilities of long term projects and presentations to an essay format, meaning that the most work we could have at any given moment for any class was just an essay. There were still confusing assignments, but we had more time to polish them and make sure we were doing them correctly, considering that class took less time and that their difficulty was limited by the constraints of video calls and online work. Finals week was much easier than a normal school year as well, because our normal 2-hour final exams were now shortened to a small assignment or a 20 minute quiz. This did have some negatives, however. Easier work meant that half of our second semester’s worth of work didn’t really impact our grades. For some students, distance learning meant that there was little opportunity to raise their grades. This work also felt more like busy work, and didn’t really help students grasp the subject as much as our normal work.
Going through the experience of Online School was indeed unlike any type of schooling I had experienced before. While it did have positives on my free time and my stress levels, I ultimately feel that I was robbed of the school year that I now yearn to have had (though I can’t imagine what it must have been like to be a senior and miss out on a live graduation). It’s the school-wide events that you experience with your friends, the joy of interacting with them, and the ability to easily communicate with your teachers that makes school a better experience, and without all of this, it’s a less fulfilling journey, that many of us had taken for granted. We at the YUNiversity hope that this piece made some of you realize how different our new normal is (that is if you haven't already), and how important it is that we try and stop the spread of this virus. Stay Safe, and please remember to follow your county’s safety guidelines to prevent contracting the coronavirus.

How data science is making a revolution in India's Job Sector?
In the past few years, we have witnessed a constant and major growth in production of data. Therefore, it would not be wrong to say that data rules our world today. The amount of data that is being produced on a daily basis is beyond anyone's imagination all because of the growth of social media, smartphones, and the internet of things or IoT. Now, the question that arises is how are we going to handle such data? Or, what are we going to make of it? The answer is data science. To put it simply, data science technology is the amalgamation of mathematics, statistics, data analysis and machine learning which uses advanced algorithms and scientific methods in order to get meaningful information and insights from a large dataset both in the form of structured and unstructured data. With the invention of concepts like big data and machine learning, data science technology has now become an integral part of various industries like business, healthcare, finance, education, and so on. Since, data science has made its way everywhere in the world, it is only natural that data science jobs will also be in high demand. Big data engineers, data scientists and machine learning engineers are often regarded as the most sought after data science jobs or jobs, in general, in today's world. Data science jobs are experiencing a massive surge all across the globe and India is no exception. The scope for data science technology and the need for the IT professionals to upgrade their skills is also increasing. So, without further ado, let us see how data science is having an impact and how data science technology is making a revolution in the job sectors of India.
Scope Of Data Science in Future
Saying that data science has brought about the fourth industrial revolution in the world would not be wrong. There have been major revolutions that have transformed the face of the industries around the world. Top tech companies and many startups in India have been hiring well-trained data science experts. Data scientist responsibilities are that of taking solution based decisions and for business initiatives. So, it is very clear that the future of data science in India is indeed very positive. Data science technology has caused rapid growth in industries and minimised the losses previously suffered. This has led to the increase in the demand for data scientist jobs and thus, have a good data science career.
Major companies have shifted their base from the same old traditional development to the new and advanced data science technology. In order to handle data scientist responsibilities, you must be efficient in certain fields like mathematics, statistics and computer science to name a few. Now, to learn data science is not an easy job and because data science training is relatively new and difficult, the number of data scientists are less in number which leads to thousands of job vacancies in India. Although India is only second, right behind the United States of America, when it comes to offering data science jobs, the data science technology field is a relatively new one and there are only a few people with the right expertise in this subject. The future of data science looks very promising because the applications of data science are way too many. Starting from the organisations in banking to healthcare to biotechnology to pharmaceuticals to automobile industry to data science in e-commerce, the revolutions are happening everywhere. When it comes to the cities making data science technology their ground for the growth of the IT industry, Bengaluru is recorded to have the highest number of data science and analytics jobs which is almost 27% of the total jobs closely followed by Delhi and Mumbai. The lack of supply in data scientist jobs or candidates with appropriate skills has led to rise in need of these data science jobs. So, the companies that want to maximize their profits, analyse the customer needs and make their companies better are desperately looking for data scientists or data science experts in general. The data science training programs are efficient but difficult as expertise in not just few but many areas is required which becomes a difficult task for many.
Payscale for Data Scientists
As stated earlier, there is a notable amount of gap between the demand and supply of data scientists in India which is contributed by the lack of data scientists or qualities and increase in data scientist jobs in the industries in India. Moreover, this has resulted in a steep increase in the salary of data scientists. Data scientist jobs, reportedly, offer more salary as compared to its contemporary IT jobs. A data scientist in India, on an average, earns about ₹650,000 per annum which is much higher than the average software engineers who earn approximately ₹450,000 per annum. This is an average estimate but with experience in the industry, the payscale also increases. For example, a professional with an experience of 5 years might earn upto 15lakhs per annum and a person with 10 years of experience might earn upto 20lakhs per annum. Therefore, the data science career is very lucrative and the future of data science is definitely a bright one when it comes to salaries.
Replacing Traditional Ways
Conventional IT jobs such as software development, testing, IT administrators, database managers, engineers have been dominating over the technology industry for decades now. However with the introduction of data science programs, the focus of this industry has shifted towards discovering new areas of applications of data science such as artificial intelligence and advancement in automation and thus reducing the human efforts and relying more on the machines. The data science jobs tend to replace the existing traditional IT jobs or at least their way of working. This has led to the working professionals upgrading their own skills and learning data science in order to keep pace with the growth of the industry. In order to keep themselves updated and meet the needs and demands of the technology industry, the employees are required to be well aware of data science technology and be well versed with all the latest data science programs that are happening across the globe. Not just the data scientists but there are other areas related to data science for job roles such as data architects, big data engineers and managers, data science and analytics that also promise to facilitate a fruitful data science career. If there is this much of demand just for data scientist jobs then the demand for all the above mentioned jobs combined is beyond imagination. So, making yourself acquainted with the data science programs in this era has become very important even if you are just a job aspirant as the demand for data science jobs is more than ever. In this situation, data science courses are what help the most as those are the only way to learn data science and keep yourself updated with the latest trends. There is an online institution that offers the best data science courses that there is in India and that is Great Learning. Great Learning online courses are very efficient. Therefore, in India, the data science career can be thought of as a new milestone or a new direction in the technology industry for people to have long term benefits. It is very clear that the future of data science is very promising.
Taking advantage of the Scope of Data Science
According to several surveys conducted by different organisations, there have been many revelations related to data science technology. One area in which there has been enough said and many points have been made is the area that focuses on adapting yourself to these changes and learning the tips or ways in which you can prepare yourself for a data science career. Some of those points are listed below.
1. Doing internships is the right path:
While pursuing your graduation or any other equivalent degree course, make yourself known about the internships that the IT companies offer or the entry level data science jobs. The more you involve yourself with these internships, the more experience you gain and there is really no better way to learn data science and the fields associated with it than by gaining experience while working for data science jobs. These internships also serve as platforms for networking and also for you to find mentors who will guide you for the jobs in this field.
2. Efficiency in any programming language:
As we have seen earlier, data science involves everything starting from mathematics to statistics to computer programming. So, it is natural that programming languages will also be an integral part of data science programs. Programming languages such as Python, R, SQL, etc. are what form the base of the technology. So, having an in-depth knowledge of at least one or more of these programming languages will be definitely advised as this will help in your data science jobs. Several data science courses facilitate the teaching of these programming languages. There are data science training programs in Great Learning which specialises in teaching Python and SQL languages through the Great Learning online courses. So, even if you are from a non programming background, signing up for these data science courses would be helpful.
3. Need for the working professionals to up their games:
This surge in demand for data science jobs has led to a rise in the number of both the working professionals as well as students opting for a data science career. The students or job aspirants as well as the individuals already associated with other fields are all going for data science courses be it from institutions or online sources in order to upgrade their skills. More than half of the people prefer online institutions in order to learn data science. Great Learning is an online institution which is a great platform for doing a data science course. The Great Learning online courses are really productive.
Hence, we are now well aware of the scope of data science technology and applications of data science in various fields that automatically have an impact on the future of the world as well as our careers. But we have also seen the ways in which we can make this technology a part of our lives and adapt ourselves to this change.
Conclusion
In the year 2018, an estimation of 2.9 million data science job vacancies were reported in a survey. The demand for data science jobs has shot up majorly and there seems to be no way that it will decrease or even go down a bit in near future because the requirement will grow and not cease. The revolutions that data science is making in job sectors in India is real and huge and it is time to acknowledge that and act on it accordingly. Companies like Flipkart, Amazon, Netflix have huge openings for the data science jobs. India has always been a centre for IT hub and it is experiencing a data explosion for the past few years.
We have discussed all the essential factors that are contributing to the growth of data science technology in India. We have also overviewed how India is experiencing a massive increase in the number of data science jobs and how this need has led to more desperate efforts for finding data scientists with appropriate skill sets as the companies are always looking for them in order to take all the profit making business decisions for the respective companies. We also went through how this demand has led to attracting huge salaries for data scientist jobs as compared to other IT jobs. All of these factors should be enough motivation for one to take up a data science career. As the future of data science is nothing but bright and brilliant, taking up data science courses are just the right way to go. Great Learning online courses are always there for such occasions as this institution understands the need for this subject and prepares its students in such a way that they become self-sufficient and worthy and have a guaranteed data science career.

You should view my webpage ON A COMPUTER. Or use DESKTOP VIEW setting in your mobile WEB-BROWSER. Not the Tumblr app. So I can’t be bothered with posting the images that go along with this since you can’t be bothered to go to the proper platform. (Sorry, mun is annoyed about this.)
“This one’s tale is one most unknown. He is not known for the tall tales of a clever wit and tongue. He is not known well at all. Niflheim of the timeless bore this one. Muspel was his womb. This one was not born of flesh and blood. This one came from whispers in the depths of a mirror’s mind. The whispers of dark desires, of murder, of lust, and of depravity. For that reason, the names most tied to I are that of darkness. If darkness were to have a face, I would be that face. If darkness were to want a voice, I would speak in its name. Darkness is cold and calculating and darkness is in my veins.”
Darius is not Loki as one would know him to be. He is not Loki in myth nor is he Loki in Marvel. He is his own entity. He is the darkness that was harbored in another, manifested in jotun form. He has no family. He has no home. Darius wanders the streets of the only realm he knows, Earth, or what he would call Midgard.
He has no goals or missions in life, only just to experience until his dying breath. He does not understand pain and emotion as we would. He does not understand sorrow and anguish. These things are unknown to him, and though they try to leave their mark on his dark soul, their efforts are in vain. His are the desires of a madman, of a psycho, of a killer. What actions he wants to take, he takes them. He does not give himself time to think of the consequences.

INFORMATION
Name: Darius Eirik Manngason (Manngason = “son of no one”) Nicknames: Loki, Dalie, Blueberry, Smurf, Dark One, Once-Thought, Dark Incarnation, Loki Loptrson Wishlist Nickname: None; he gives no fucks toward names Birthday: January 17th (Zodiac Capricorn) Age: Physically 5 years (his body was created July 23, 2012), looks like mid-thirties, contains the wealth of knowledge of Loki, so acts much older than either of the previously listed ages. Ethnicity: Jotunn (Frost Giant) Height: 6’4” (male) / 5’8” (female) Weight: Approx 635lbs (but feels like 200lbs with his levitation spell) Body Type: Darius is much unlike the stereotypical build of Loki. His frame is thick with muscle, yet he is still ‘small’ by Asgardian standards for warriors. When compared to someone like Thor, Darius would still appear small-framed. However, Darius stands physically taller than Loki by two or three inches, making him eye-level to Thor. Darius possesses a thicker, squarer jawline, and his eyebrows looks more chiseled and prominent than that of Loki’s. Skin color: Deep blue, close to ultramarine blue in Jotun form, pale white/alabaster (like humans) in Aesir form. Eye Color: Red with red sclera in Jotun form, green eyes with white sclera in Aesir form. Hair: Raven black, mid-length hair Scars: A large yet subtle scar across his stomach/abdominal region and a smaller more prominent one over his sternum. Burns: No Over weight: No Under weight: No Other Physical Traits: He has markings all over his body in his Jotun form that are akin to very thin, raised lines, giving him a somewhat tribal appearance. However, the thin lines are easily unnoticeable as they are so thin and barely raised. One would likely have to be looking for them, or they must be under some harsh lighting’s angle. Smells like: Differs based off of the shampoos/body washes he uses, mostly consisting of sandalwood, citrus, or cinnamon. Without the influence of shampoos/body wash, he would have a “freezer burn” kind of smell. Speech Traits: Deep voice, he speaks as though he has an accent, yet the accent is no definable match to any existing accents. Stance: He has a very rigid stance, appearing taller than he is, which is very tall. His feet are about 24 inches apart when he stands. Walk: He has something of a saunter-like walk, very casual and relaxed no matter the place or occasion. He walks with confidence and as though he has extreme familiarity of his surroundings. Common Gestures: Occasionally, he may tap his fingers on his side. He often shifts his weight from one foot to another every few minutes. He tends to move his head around as though he is looking for details. When exposed to many sounds or scents, he will sometimes close his eyes as he is very over-stimulated by his senses. Facial Expressions: He has a very unreadable face. It hints at multiple feelings, yet the eyes tell you that feelings are not present. He sometimes scowls, he sometimes look perplexed, and sometimes he even looks upset or depressed. Clothes and Shoes: He isn’t particularly picky about clothes. He will generally stick to flannel shirts that button up, although sometimes he will wear a thin long-sleeved or sleeveless undershirt, generally black in color. The flannel shirts tend to be vibrant red plaid shirts. He will wear an array of jeans, the most of which will be dark blue, grey, or black. Cosmetics: He doesn’t use too much, being a low-maintenance sort of fellow. He will occasionally use some oil to slick his hair back. Education: Religious education, Apprenticeship, Non-traditional education. Self-taught, very intelligent. Financial Status: Wealthy Lives in: an abandoned insane asylum located in Finland with no immediate neighboring buildings/residencies. Languages Known: English, Finnish, Swedish, Ancient Norse, Icelandic, Norweigan, Jotun, Asgardian Relationship Status: Single Sexual Orientation: Omnisexual, Sexuality: Sexually adventurous, experienced, promiscuous. Romantic Orientation: Romance repulsed Religious views: Atheistic, believes in an afterlife, believes in reincarnation, aliens exist (he’s proof of them). Beliefs: He believes that nothing matters. This is his biggest belief. One can spend their life trying to accomplish a great many things, however in the long run, their actions will be forgotten. They will be forgotten. The future will not remember them, no matter what. Perhaps some surviving documents will last for centuries, however Darius believes nothing lasts forever. Family: He has NO parents, NO siblings, and four children. Twins by Thanos and a daughter by an alternate Loki named Layla (all childrens’ whereabouts are unknown), and one son by simactire named Icarus (Dalie’s not allowed to see said son because of reasons…) Classification: He is an emotionless homicidal, suicidal, cannibalistic, sadistic, psychopathic sociopath. Reputation: He is well known to be violent and dangerous. Motto: “I don’t care.” Moral Code: He has no moral code. Fears: He has none. Strengths: He is physically strong. His logical thinking often puts an end to irrational emotional impulses. Weaknesses and Shortcomings: His apathy is very disruptive in his day-to-day actions. He also feels mildly uncomfortable at anything mentioning the heart. Personality Flaws: Paranoid, Schizoid, Antisocial. Severity of each is noticeable and somewhat disruptive. Desperation: He isn’t exactly desperate. His apathetic view on life disables any yearning. Most and Least Self-Serving Actions: Sex is the most self-serving thing he does on a frequent basis. He enjoys the way it feels and disregards what his partner feels. Least self-serving would be to help anyone else. He sees no point in doing that. Prejudices: He will look at someone and throw stereotypes at them in a very rude way. He will call a woman who has had many partners a slut. He will call a man who lays with another man gay in an offensive way. He belittles women, believing that being male is just more fun. However whether he actually feels this way is unknown. In truth, Darius does a lot of things mainly to get a rise out of someone. He will be mean, nasty, and cruel, do nearly whatever it takes to upset someone. Secrets: He has no secrets. He is a very open and free type of guy. He does not worry so much about the consequence of others knowing what it is he does. However, he does not offer such information freely. Usually one has to ask, otherwise he will not talk. Secrecy about Personal Information: Open and honest. Reliability of Memory: Eidetic (though due to rising mental conditions, some memories have been erased) Sense(s) of Humor: Vulgar, Complex, Dark, Physical, Openly displayed, Unique, and Passive (provides commentary) Special talent(s): Not possessing any fucks to give about anyone or anything. Images That Remind Me of Darius: Linked here. (To prevent lag in this page’s loading) Struggling With: Obtaining fucks to give.

STORY TIME:
Darius’ real name is Loki Loptrson. He was created by Loki (specifically my muse, LokaTattur, a.k.a. LiefullyLoki) and in some ways or another he /is/ Loki.
Darius started out solely as a thought in Loki’s mind. By this, I mean he was the dark voice in LokaTattur’s mind. We all have a dark side, we all have that little voice or conscious half that knows it’s wrong but won’t stop you from thinking of doing an evil deed. It’s your own will power that prevents you from acting out on your dark thoughts.
Darius is those dark thoughts, that whim you never let yourself take. In this particular case, he’s that for LokaTattur, or as he once was called “Liefully.” (My original Loki blog was LiefullyLoki, Darius came later and his original blog was DalieIsInYourCloset.)
My precious Liefully had once been so beaten and tortured by Thanos for a bargain he never made (his identity was mistaken since there are so many Lokis out there), that he didn’t nearly die, he truly did die. He was fortunate that another Loki, AsgardianOutcast, cared enough about him that he wasn’t willing to let Liefully stay dead. He bargained with Hel to free Liefully.
Ever since that time, Liefully was never the same again. He got PTSD, he got it really bad. Asgardian was there for him, though. And while Liefully changed into this new person, Asgardian loved him and protected him all the same.
One fateful week, Asgardian had to return to his own universe (because every Loki lives in an alternate reality) and was gone for a week because he had to go to war with another realm (he was king of Asgard). Liefully would’ve been fine spending that week alone.
The problem came in the form of Thanos.
Thanos returned to Earth to find Liefully, he started threatening those Liefully cared about to tell him where Loki is. This caused Liefully to completely snap. And Darius stepped in the place of this broken god and wielded control over Liefully’s form. Liefully was so out of sorts, he allowed his dark thoughts to manifest, become stronger, and become violent. His logic was if he could push away everyone he loved, they’d be safe from harm. They were only in danger because Loki cared about them. So he let Darius, who was only just the dark thoughts in his head at the time, take over and be as vicious and violent as he wanted all in an effort to push them away, to deter them.
Asgardian came back, and it was good that he did. He was able to snap Liefully out of it, where no one else, not even Loki’s brother, could.
But Darius didn’t want to go away. He didn’t want to recede. He had a taste of life and he wanted more. Since he knew everything there was to know about his mind-sharer, he used that to press all of Liefully’s buttons, the ones that would make him break, make him snap, so that Darius could get control again.
It wasn’t working. Asgardian was there and he was watching over Liefully carefully. Darius was soon only able to communicate with others when Liefully chose to rest. He then encountered another Loki, TheWickedLoki, who gave him a deal. Wicked would give Darius the body he wanted and Darius would do what Wicked wanted.
Darius took this deal. So, soon after, he was born to his very own body from the use of magic and the blood and hair of Loki (Wicked and yet another Loki’s hair/blood sample).
Fully grown, Darius had all of Liefully’s memories and no idea how to feel. The memories were like movies to Darius. He could see them, hear them, but he could not feel them, not smell them, not taste them. Liefully’s memories were, for the most part, useless to Darius.
However, he used a lot of them to be able to articulate, to be able to construe things, like knowing fire burns without having to feel it. This led to one factors of Darius’ fearlessness. He knew things that he didn’t have to experience. He because a highly rational thinker, disabling the needs or natural inclination for all emotions.
Darius originally had no emotions. But as time went on, he gained life experiences that he couldn’t get from Liefully’s memories. He learned what pain felt like, he learned what meat tasted like, so on and so forth. Over time, he learned many of the things we learn in our infancy and childhood.
While Darius is indeed a grown male, he is also much like a child, still learning a lot of things. His curiosity leads him to do strange things. As the once-thought of Liefully’s dark side, Darius has carried out many of the cruel acts that Liefully would think of but never dare do. So Darius’ dark inclination is because of his origins. And his behavior is due to his lack of experience in so much that we take for granted. Of course, he’s also just a big douche-bagel who loves pissing everyone off or freaking everyone out.
Darius’ weaknesses are very hard to see when one speaks with and interacts with him, but he too suffers greatly from the split. He longs for the solitude he was immensely used to. Being in his own body, Darius has learned much to his dismay that he cannot turn away from his physical senses and signals and sometimes these olfactory senses drive him mad. The silence, darkness, and solitude of Loki’s mind was an experience Darius had taken far for granted and has never been able to regain as a result of the split. Granted, he has learned to live with his olfactory senses, he stills longs for that peace of the mind.
Additional Info:
Darius was also severely desensitized to everything because he carried with him a copy of all of Loki’s memories and knowledge when he gained his own corporeal form. He has the knowledge to know the cause and effects of so many things yet he doesn’t have the feelings (physical or emotional) that are tied to the knowledge he has. One example of this is: You know that cutting your hand means it will bleed. For Darius, he has this knowledge. But before he was given his own body, he didn’t know the sensations that were tied to this. Thus, he was mentally ready for a cut of the hand and the sensations caused by the action didn’t train him to avoid being cut. Instead, when Darius experiences a cut of the hand, he registers the tingling sensations of the nerves telling him of pain, he feels his hand getting hot as blood rushes to the spot, he feels the way the cut skin reacts to any flexing movements done to it. Instead of having every desire to avoid it, these feelings make him curious. He already knows the consequences of a cut, but he doesn’t necessarily know the sensations tied to them.
So, in short, Darius doesn’t function like Loki at all. He might have Loki’s blood, Loki’s memories, and Loki’s knowledge of magic, potions, and spells, but he’s not Loki. He’s only part of Loki. Both he and Loki are parts of one another, yet they act as separate wholes.
(Daria = Darius’s female name)
Common Misconceptions About Darius:
Emotions (this one is long): A lot of people are very used to a character that possesses emotions, even if they’re hidden/masked. For Loki, most expect him to be angry when he brings pain to others, even if he’s clearly laughing maniacally as he does it. Your instinct is to assume he has some kind of negative emotions burrowing deep within that cause him to do what he does. Everyone has the instinct that behind every action and saying, there’s some emotion driving it. Darius wasn’t born like a normal individual. He didn’t have a childhood. He didn’t develop a brain like we do. Darius was born in the mind of another, completely devoid of feeling emotions toward what he could hear and see and having the wisdom and comprehension of one who has already learned the rewards and consequences of their actions. He was designed to function without emotional bias. After he was kind of transplanted from one mind to his own body to control, this is when Darius began developing his own olfactory senses. He’s still learning a lot! But for the most part, his mental state was developed before he obtained a physical form, so he processes everything very differently from others!!! We know not to do certain things because of their consequences, like sticking your hand in a fire burns and hurts. For Darius, he knows full well the consequences for his actions, but instead of fearing getting hurt, he finds it a mind-boggling function of the physical form and tries to understand it by doing that which most would learn not to do when they were young. He’s not biased by emotional responses because he has not developed emotions enough to have emotional responses. So he doesn’t feel afraid to get hurt, he doesn’t have any phobias and worries about one thing or another because he didn’t develop like a child would. Despite being incredibly intelligent and calculating, there’s a whole lot he doesn’t know, a whole lot that he didn’t have the benefits of a childhood to develop so while he is most certainly a full-grown adult, he is also a child about many things, emotions being one of them. He has himself psyched out to think he can’t feel and when you have never felt emotions before, it’s very hard to identify them within yourself. Every emotion he learns is heavily tied to the physical indicators of that emotional response. And since he has a lifetime stuffed in his head that’s completely devoid of the emotional context of each memory (we’re talking about Loki’s memories, not Darius’ memories), he’s come to expect that level of emotional magnitude, which is no feelings. To him, a lot of things are like watching a film. He can see what’s happening and hear what’s happening, but he has no emotional context for those things so what he sees doesn’t inspire emotional responses. So to put things simply, Darius is almost completely lacking in emotions. He’s learning them slowly, but for now, he hasn’t felt the full emotional spectrum.
Getting angry: A lot of people are very used to being able to piss someone off by calling them names or drudging up unfavorable memories for that individual or even physically poking and prodding them until they burst with rage. Well, that stuff doesn’t work on Darius. Being one that lacks the ability to feel irrationally emotional over things, calling him names are either interpreted as “Duh” or “That’s weird, but okay.” You can totally call him a blueberry or a smurf, he isn’t going to get mad. His thought process works this way: “Oh, I see what you’re doing there. You’re calling me a blueberry because my skin’s blue.” And insinuating names that most would find insulting like “retard,” he just sees the misconception of the name. It’d be like calling a cat a dog. The cat doesn’t care what you call it, even if that’s an incorrect identification of the animal. It’s going to continue going about it’s catty business. As far as Darius is concerned, you can call him a horse-fucker (since people sometimes mistake him for Loki who once did the deed with a horse) and all he thinks is “Well, I didn’t fuck a horse, so you’re wrong. That’s on you, not me. -shrug-” Darius has absolutely no emotional response that will drive him to want to contradict someone’s accusation of him. Someone can be like “I bet you can’t do that!” and he’ll respond with “Yeah, I can.” and if they say “Prove it!” He’d just be like “Why? I don’t care if you believe me or not. That doesn’t change the fact that I can do what I said I can do.” It’s another misconception that he feels grumpy. He might act and sound grumpy, but he’s rarely in this negative end of the spectrum.
Murderer’s gonna do what a murderer’s gonna do: A lot of people think “Oh shit, Darius is a murderer, he’s a psychopath, he’s sadistic. Fuck, my muse is doomed.” Nope, that’s not quite so. Sure there’ll be times where Darius will blatantly hurt your muse, but he gets a lot of fun from picking them apart psychologically. He loves to try to figure out what makes people tick. So you can expect him entering in conversations with muses and be several replies in without having made any actual life-threatening actions or threats toward your muse’s life. He may be a murderer but murdering takes energy and sometimes he just doesn’t feel like murdering, sometimes he just wants to talk. I’m not saying that’s a good thing! Sometimes he uses conversation to learn of someone’s weaknesses and insecurities so he can use that against them later. He’s a man without a plan, but he acts like someone who knows exactly what he’s doing. He’s strange like that. Besides, one of his most popularly repeated sayings is “Dead things are no fun.” He gets a lot more enjoyment in ‘experimenting’ on others. He loves to test the boundaries and
My muse is going to annoy the fuck out of him: This is really similar to getting angry, being that it’s nearly impossible to annoy Darius. All the usual tactics one can employ to annoy someone don’t really work on Darius. You can’t talk his ear off, he’ll listen patiently. You can’t insult him, he wouldn’t care. You can’t drudge up bad memories, he doesn’t have them. You can pull pranks on him and he’ll usually respond in the most anti-climactic way. A most commonly referred to example is the time an Anon decided to dunk hot salsa all over him. He didn’t get mad, he was more like “Really? What a waste of salsa.” No “WHY DID YOU DO THAT, YOU LITTLE BITCH, IMMA WRONG YOUR NECK.” It was just “Darn, I just took a shower too. Guess I have to go take another one now…” That’s not to say it’s impossible to annoy him. The ways in which Darius functions.
Reverse Psychology: It generally doesn’t work on him. You’ll never know if saying “Leave me alone” will make him want to stay and continue causing trouble for your muse or if he’ll be like “Okay, bye.” Likely, if he knows what your muse wants, he makes the conscious choice of whether or not he wants to give it to them. It’s going to be a 50/50 chance. If your muse tries to psyche him out by stating something to the opposite of what they want him to follow through with, chances are he’ll follow through with that thing the muse told him to do. This is really complicated and I can’t give any solid examples as to what I mean. It’s a little like Princess Bride, that scene where Westley and the balding guy had a duel of witts. Darius is Westley in that case. Your muse will likely lose one way or another.
He’s dark, he’s into the kinky shit: Not necessarily. He gets off on feeling power but he doesn’t exactly get a hard-on if it’s clear your muse is in pain. He likes knowing he’s in control and hates not being in control. He’s not a Dom, he’s an attacker, there’s a huge difference. Mainly being, there’s no such thing as a safe word for him. He’s going to do what satisfies his carnal needs and will probably make little effort to ensure his partner is also enjoying things. This doesn’t mean he’s into hand cuffs, leather, whips, chains, etc. He’s a little less easy to pin than that. It doesn’t mean he’s not open to those things, but usually he’s going to do things his way or he’s going to leave and find someone else to “play” with.
FACECLAIMS
In case anyone’s confused… Darius is blue skinned and his eyes are solid red. Darius’ skin has thinly raised jotun marking all over his body. Like this:
He has TWO male face claims. One is Tom Hiddleston (as Loki):
And the other is Ian Somerhalder (as Damon):
The reason for this is because Damon has a lot of mannerisms that are very Darius-like to me. But in my mind, he still looks like Tom Hiddleston’s Loki, regardless of the face claim.
Darius’ female face claim is Eva Green (in various roles):

62% of non-readers dropped out of high school.
30% of children with Dyslexia also have at least a mild form of AD/HD.
Dyslexic may excel at connecting ideas, thinking out of the box, 3D thinking, seeing the big picture people with dyslexia excel or even gifted in areas of art, computer science, design, drama, electronics, math, mechanics, music, physics, sales and sports
Dyslexia is not tied to IQ - Einstein was dyslexic and had an estimated IQ of 160
80% of people associate dyslexia with some form of retardation - this is not true
Dyslexia runs in families; parents with dyslexia are very likely to have children with dyslexia

I had a super casual conversation to an education phycologist, where I discussed the question I was planning on asking, and made sure that my question would get the information I needed.
she then went on to recommended reading to do.
“It is useful to look at dyslexia as being a learning difference rather than a learning difficulty”

Dyslexia in the Early Years: A Handbook for Practice
“Usually the person is around average intelligence and in some cases can be well above”
“Usually they are visual and experiential learners and find learning through listening and reading lengthy texts quite demanding”
“The early stages of education are vitally important, and it follows that the challenges experienced by children with dyslexia need to be identified as early as possible.”
“The context and learning environment are worthy of consideration as well as the individual challenges experienced by the child in relation to learning.”
“Identification does not necessarily mean labelling; rather, it can be noting those children who are at ‘high risk’ of dyslexia.”
Dyslexia: Why Is This Diagnosis so Challenging?
“Dyslexia, the most commonly identified learning disability, frequently goes unidentified in school age children, especially when children perform adequately on high stakes tests”
“While some children fail to acquire adequate reading skills due to a lack of opportunity and poor instruction, others fail to succeed in reading in spite of good environmental supports and overall adequate intellectual abilities because of disruptions in one or more domains of cognitive processing"
“Accommodations, an important aspect of intervention for school children with dyslexia, allow children to access and retain information in ways that tap into their strengths as well as to demonstrate their knowledge in alternative ways”
“Only 39.3% of the teachers in the survey described the cognitive aspects associated with dyslexia. They talked of things like phonological processing differences – the cognitive ability to identify sounds in words, for example, breaking down “cat” to “c”, “a” and “t” – as well as issues with decoding, and memory problems. Finally, 9% described the condition’s biological aspects. These teachers described dyslexia in relation to the brain, as well as neurological differences, or genetics being the cause of the dyslexic symptoms.”

Training Fundamentals: Becoming a Better Divemaster
Divemaster is typically the first professional level within the recreational diving industry. It’s a multifaceted role that non-professional observers often misunderstand, and it’s not uncommon during an open-water class for a student to proudly proclaim that they intend to be a divemaster. There are slight variations on the divemaster theme within each training agency and the role varies widely. Being both a great diver and a great divemaster does have some overlap but being a great divemaster is much more than being a great diver.
Becoming a great divemaster
There are thousands of divemasters. Many only remain active for a short time due to natural attrition. Some only complete the divemaster training to expand their knowledge and skill level or for the kudos of being a divemaster. Dive centers and instructors seek out only the best divemasters after they complete their training.
What are the characteristics of a great divemaster? If you’re considering undertaking training, or are a new divemaster, how can you improve in those key areas?
Broadly speaking, sought-after divemasters exhibit a professional attitude and behavior. Their skills are buttoned up. In more detail, here’s what to aim for if you’d like to gain employment as a divemaster.
Dive skills and knowledge
A divemaster must be not only competent in the water but also capable of diving to demonstration quality. This means having a clear understanding of — and the ability to perform — all core skills from each training course up to and including divemaster level. In addition, some of the skills are general ones that instructors would expect of any professional working alongside them, such as knot tying, deploying DSMBs or navigating on dives to allow the instructor to observe students. In addition, a divemaster should know the training standards and work within them, with a solid understanding of what is required and the integrity to abide by the rules.
How to improve: Practice makes perfect and the skills you feel most uncomfortable with are probably the ones you should concentrate on. Consult the instructor manual to ensure that you hit precise performance requirements and spend time honing your skills. Not sure how to tie that bowline? Are you a little shaky with compass navigation? Practice. Get familiar with training materials, standards and guidelines.
Personal fitness
Diving professionally can be very physically demanding and as such, there are minimum fitness requirements in place for divemaster training, including swimming tests, diver-tow tests and water-skills assessments. These are not a target for meeting the minimum requirements, but rather a gauge to assess where you fall in comparison to the ideal you should aim for – the highest level. The best professional divers see fitness as integral to their role, not as an afterthought.
How to improve: Make a balanced diet and regular cardiovascular exercise part of your normal routine. Being an Olympic athlete isn’t necessary but having the solid fitness to deal with emergencies is.
Prioritize safety
Customers and employers want safety to be paramount in your mind as a divemaster. Practice what you preach. Plan the dive, dive the plan. Give the divers you’re leading the opportunity to buddy-check. Brief carefully on dive parameters and entry/exit procedures. Ensure all the dives you’re responsible for are executed within training parameters and safe limits. Customers need to feel safe with you and employers want to be sure their customers are in good hands. Don’t push the envelope. Just because the divers you’re leading have an advanced open-water certification doesn’t mean you should always aim for a maximum depth of 100 feet (30 m). Use good judgment and conservatism when leading dives based on conditions, ability and comfort.
Similarly, when working with new divers in-water always be in a position to offer immediate physical assistance. Especially on descents and ascents, assess the divers’ skill level and use appropriate control criteria. Follow the safety procedures as dictated by the environment you’re working in. Work in collaboration with the captain of the boat or local trip leaders to keep your customers safe.
How to improve: Pay attention to more experienced instructors, divemasters and boat captains you may be working with. You can always learn something from them. Know your dive sites and be mindful of local diving laws and regulations. Stay abreast of the standards of the training agency and dive center you represent and make conservative decisions.
Know your divers
Conducting buddy checks is vital
Crossing that invisible line and becoming a divemaster means the diving is no longer about you. Rather, it’s about the divers that you’re leading — whether that’s pool-refresher session, try dive, guided dive, or indirectly supervised training dive. Learn how to read people and situations as you gather experience. Your assessment of the divers begins the moment you meet them at the dive center, boat or resort. Each word and gesture can tell you something about the diver’s likely behavior in the water and, therefore, help you make a better decision about how to tailor that pool session or guided dive to them. Always plan your dive to the least confident, skillful or experienced diver in the group.
How to improve: Learning how to assess divers and judge situations isn’t something that happens automatically as you qualify as a divemaster — it takes time and experience. Pay close attention to your divers and listen to other, more-experienced professional divers. Ask them why they’re making certain decisions and, if in doubt, choose conservatively.
Have the right equipment
Being a professional diver means having reasonably up to date, well-serviced equipment that is right for the job. It doesn’t necessarily need to be box-fresh, but it shouldn’t be in poor condition, out of date, or held together with cable-ties and tape. Conversely, if you’re about to take in a group of newly certified divers on a simple guided reef dive, you needn’t wear a rebreather, twin-set or multiple stage bottles.
An important psychological aspect of being a good divemaster is to mirror your customers as much as possible and make them feel at ease. Have the core equipment to undertake the job — as specified with the training agency’s standards — together with anything specific to the environment you’ll be working in.
How to improve: Research the environment you’ll be working in to ensure you have what you’ll need. Plan ahead and budget for any new equipment. Build in contingencies such as backup computers, spare masks and a second DSMBs and reel for emergencies.
Expand your experience and knowledge
Helping instructors during pool sessions will increase your skills.
Continue to learn and hone your craft. Follow your interests and take continuing-education courses and specialty training that piques your interest. Learn about different areas of diving and gather experience in different environments. Some divemasters complete their training solely on a warm Caribbean reef but would be unsuitable to work in a more challenging, cold water, low-visibility environment of a European lake. Conversely, the divemaster who has worked only in the European lake would be unsuited to guide a dive in strong, swirling currents in southeast Asia. And simply diving in those different environments on holiday or vacation isn’t enough. Watch closely how and why the local divemasters set up, brief and run dives in a certain way; why the boats remain in a certain configuration, where the team stows safety equipment, and what the local procedures are.
How to improve: Broaden your skill set and consider each dive trip a learning experience, not a vacation. Take a notepad and slate. Observe and ask questions. There is always something to learn from environment to environment that will make you a better and more rounded divemaster.
Attitude
A good attitude is arguably the most important trait of a great divemaster. As a result, you can be the most skillful diver on the boat but if you’ve got a bad attitude you’ll never succeed. Going the extra mile really separates the great divemasters from the average ones. With that in mind, great divemasters:
Never have a bad day or a bad dive. Good divemasters are always on time, prepared, well-rested and ready to go.
Collaborate with instructors on training courses. They’ve also researched the course curriculum and have considered where they should be in the water, and what their logistical role may be on land.
Appreciate that dive preparation happens well before getting in the water. They fill tanks, load equipment on the boat and complete paperwork. This is all part of a team effort to offer customers a good service and get the job done.
Understand that they’re part of a larger team working with the dive center to offer a professional service. A great divemaster also has skills such as website/marketing prowess, equipment maintenance and sales skills.
Can communicate with honesty and integrity to customers and other staff members, promoting the business they work for.
Have excellent interpersonal skills and can nurture trust and respect in customers and fellow staff members.
How to improve: A good attitude is part nature, part nurture. Above all, a great divemaster will consider the bigger picture of the dive center they’re working for and the industry they’re part of.
Passing your divemaster training is the foundation of becoming a great divemaster, not the finish line at the end of the race. Hone your skills, professionalism and attitude and you’ll grow into a valuable member of the dive team.

Doctor Who Reviews by a Female Doctor, Season 3, p. 4
Please note: these reviews contain spoilers about various seasons of the reboot, and sometimes contain references to the classic series.
Season Three Overview: Smith, Jones, and Tyler
Going into its third season, the show had to contend with some fans’ doubts about whether it could retain its appeal without Rose Tyler. This was an important moment for the show, a chance to make clear that while the reboot was deeply indebted to Billie Piper, it wasn’t completely dependent on her. Some absolutely sensational episodes show that it certainly could get by without her, but Rose’s absence hangs almost suffocatingly over the season, suggesting a sense of total bewilderment about how to move on. It makes sense to give a lot of attention to the Doctor’s grief at her loss; Rose was such a hugely influential companion that I can understand the more long-term grief than what was typical in the classic series. The show invests so much into this perspective, though, that it comes across as defeatist, as if it’s admitting that “yes, you’re right, skeptical fans—no one will ever be as good as Rose.” The result is an interesting if frequently annoying look at the Doctor’s emotions, but it crushes a lot of the spirit out of what should have been a wonderful Doctor-Companion pairing, and this turns a potentially great season into just a good one.
Part of the problem is that the Doctor never really gets a chance to fight his own propensity for moping about the past instead of embracing the present. In next season’s “Partners in Crime,” he has clearly thought about the problems that he caused for Martha, and is putting some effort into avoiding a repetition of his mistakes. This introspection seems to have happened during the break between seasons, though, because there is very little evidence of him actually dealing with his problems here. He destroys the spider people in his first agony of post-Rose trauma, he’s not very nice to Martha, he gets a reminder of how cruel he was to Jack, and then he irritatingly gets to defeat the Master by embracing his role as the savior of mankind. A brief scene in “Gridlock” and the excellent conversation between the Doctor and Jack in “Utopia” are the only times that suggest he is confronting any of the massive flaws that we see in him this season, and after Season Two’s repeated glossing over of a lot of these same flaws, it’s getting awfully late in the game for him to remain so oblivious about his impact on other people. Granted, once he fully embraces a sense of his own problems, he becomes sort of an angsty mess, as can be seen in “Journey’s End” through the conclusion to his time on the show. Early Season Four, though, features the most likeable version of the Doctor, who is maintaining a positive, upbeat persona while thinking carefully about his behavior, and I wish that this season had built up to that a bit more instead of giving him a sudden leap in conscience once Donna turns up.
Martha was a very good idea for a companion—perhaps, on paper, the best concept for a companion of the entire reboot. Not only is she the first person of color in this role, she’s also a doctor-in-training. There’s certainly plenty of value to showing the obstacles facing working-class people of color, but it’s important for television to have a range of characters of color, including highly-educated professionals, so I love the choice to make the first black companion an advanced medical student. She’s also very much not the “sassy black friend” stereotype that we’ve seen a lot on television, and I really appreciate that the show avoids that kind of cliché. There was so much potential here, but the show never really takes advantage of it. I don’t think that Davies has anything whatsoever against smart female characters—Rose, Martha, and Donna are all sharp, insightful, quick-witted people. He does seem a bit hesitant, though, to invest in knowledgeable female leads, and that really hurts this season. In the classic era, there were a lot of companions with vast amounts of scientific knowledge—Zoe could do anything with computers, Liz was a hugely accomplished scientist, Romana was a highly educated Time Lord, and so on. There were some companions whose advanced knowledge tended to get annoying, especially Nyssa and Adric, but I liked that the 26 seasons of the classic series had a good range of approaches to science, with some characters knowing very little and some knowing a huge amount. Martha is the most scientifically-accomplished companion of the new series, but she’s written as if Davies had taken to heart the criticisms one can find on the internet that Liz Shaw was “too smart” to be a companion. She gets to use her scientific knowledge a little bit on occasion, but the general formula seems to be that for every teaspoon of science/medical wisdom that she gets to display, we need a heaping tablespoon of “watch Martha make sad, jealous faces about the Doctor’s preference for her predecessor.”
Davies is very committed to creating relatable female characters, which is generally a good thing, but it can become a problem if it turns into minimizing the things that make a character unique for fear that they will become too distant from the average viewer. Most of the show’s audience is not going to have had the experience of going through most of medical school (or, really, of having that much education in any field), and so there are lots of things that Martha knows and can do that aren’t really part of most of our lives. It’s a lot easier to connect to a character on the basis of an unrequited infatuation, which is something that nearly everyone has experienced. It’s possible to see unrelatable moments, though, as an opportunity to let viewers empathize with experiences beyond their own, and I would have loved to see the show allow Martha’s background to inform her story a bit more. Someone in medical school would have had to study things like chemistry and biology, and the impact that encountering something like the TARDIS would have on someone who has put a lot of effort into studying how the physical world works is fascinating. The Doctor opens up new worlds for all of his companions, but this might be a more shocking experience for someone who had put a lot of time into figuring out the physical workings of life on Earth, and this creates a potentially fascinating character. It might pull her away a bit from being “just like us,” but it would make her different from the other companions and would give us insight into a mindset that many of don’t share. Instead of being centered on what it’s like for an almost-Doctor to travel in the TARDIS, though, Martha’s story is framed around her unrequited love for the Doctor, and this does a huge disservice to her character. With the lovely “Expelliarmus” moment in “The Shakespeare Code” as an exception, even her main contributions to the plot tend to take shape around the unrequited love dynamic. The kiss is a huge moment in “Smith and Jones,” she saves the day in “The Family of Blood” by declaring her love for the Doctor, and she saves the world in “The Last of the Time Lords” by traveling around and telling everyone to believe in how wonderful the Doctor is. She’s allowed small victories that make use of other facets of her character, but the big, climactic ones are all about her romantic feelings.
The lack of interest in Martha as a medical student also means that we get very little about her life on Earth. After “Smith and Jones,” she seems to have mostly forgotten that she’s enrolled in medical school, returning to the idea only in her annoyance with Joan’s racism in “The Family of Blood.” This means that the only sustained connection that we get to Martha’s regular life is her family, and none of them are written with as much depth as Rose’s family was. Francine is a charismatic presence, and her concerns about Martha traveling with the Doctor are portrayed very well, but there’s so little else to the character this season—really, the only other thing we learn is that she doesn’t like Martha’s dad’s ditzy girlfriend—that she doesn’t ground Martha’s story in a detailed reality in the way that happened with Rose. The rest of the family is just completely underwritten, including, sadly, the sister played by Gugu Mbatha-Raw, who could have been marvelous if the show had given her anything to do. I could picture what clearly what Rose’s life would be like without the Doctor, but it’s a lot harder to do that with Martha.
The biggest problem with Martha as a character, though, is the decision to make her mostly unwanted from the Doctor’s perspective. It makes sense that he is grieving for Rose, but even in “The Runaway Bride,” which is set seconds after his goodbye to her, he seems more willing to treat Donna as a person than he generally is with Martha for the rest of the season. There are moments in which he tries to get over this—the end of “Gridlock” sees him at least trying to talk to Martha on her own terms instead of seeing her as Not Rose—but there are far too many occasions this season in which he is very obvious about the fact that he wishes Rose was there instead of her. This leads to a lot of scenes of jealous moping from Martha, and it makes the Doctor look extremely insensitive. From his lament that “Rose would know what to do” in “The Shakespeare Code” to his almost total lack of acknowledgment of everything Martha did in “The Last of the Time Lords,” the Doctor never really appreciates Martha enough. By the time we get to “Utopia,” Martha is (understandably) pouting every time someone mentions Rose, and watching the main companion be jealous of her predecessor just doesn’t make for an enjoyable season of television. It also means that both of the two main black characters of the Davies era (Martha and Mickey) spend much of their time pining away for white people who reject them for other white people, which is not ideal.
The misguided Doctor-Companion dynamic this season is especially unfortunate because it mars a season that has some tremendously creative storylines and a plot arc that is impeccably set up, even if it does crash and burn in its final minutes. The early mentions of Harold Saxon introduce him as a vaguely threatening presence long before we realize who he really is, and the humanizing potential of the fob watch is integrated so smoothly into the season that I had no idea the concept would turn up again until we saw the watch in “Utopia.” The Master himself is very well portrayed, both by Derek Jacobi and by John Simm. Simm’s Master is going to go off the rails a bit in his return, but having to pretend to be Prime Minister for a while restrains him just enough that he generally works very well this season. He’s also having a terrific time, especially in his musical introduction of the Toclafane. He and Tennant have terrific chemistry, and watching him take over the world is an absolute delight. It’s disappointing that he comes across as intensely stupid in the last episode—the Master always gets crushed eventually, but Roger Delgado and Michelle Gomez managed to continue to look like geniuses even in defeat. Still, his interactions with the Doctor and his show-offy evil behavior are among the bright lights of this season. While there are plenty of frustrations this season, there really are some sublimely good pieces of writing, from the Doctor’s brief spell as a human to the Weeping Angels to the energetic new Master, and my frustration with the season’s problems stems mostly from the sense that if a few things had been written differently, this would have been an absolutely phenomenal season.
Planets: There is some good work with contemporary Earth in “The Runaway Bride,” “Smith and Jones,” “The Lazarus Experiment,” “Blink,” and “The Sound of Drums,” all of which look much better than many of the modern-day scenes in Season Two. We get some really lovely historical scenes in “Human Nature/The Family of Blood,” some decent ones in “The Shakespeare Code” and the end of the universe looks smashing in “Utopia.” New Earth continues to be almost entirely without interest, New York looks like it was filmed by someone who had never directed anything before, and the moon is a bit of a disappointment in “Smith and Jones,” but on the whole it’s a successful season in terms of settings.
Monsters, Aliens, Etc.: This is the main way in which this season is an improvement on Season Two. While it does make an absolute mess of the Daleks, probably more so than at any point in the show’s history, it also has some absolutely splendid villains. The Weeping Angels are magnificent, the Family is terrifying, the Judoon are fabulous Rhinoceros Police, the Master is giving a beautifully hammy performance, and the Toclafane are a horrifying depiction of the last remnants of the human race. Not everything works—the sun in “42” is an awfully odd villain, and the witches in “The Shakespeare Code” are awfully unsatisfying, but the monsters and aliens who do work well are more than enough to offset a few failures.
Female characters: I’m not sure whether this season is a step up or down from Two. On the one hand, it doesn’t use female authority figures as incompetent plot devices, and no one gets turned into a concrete slab. On the other hand, Martha’s potential as a character is mostly wasted, and the only real stand-out female guest characters are Donna, Sally Sparrow and Jenny/Mother of Mine. Joan does get some good material toward the end of The Family of Blood,” but I still think of her as the weakest part of a generally excellent two-parter, and Chantho also gets a couple of good moments that don’t really offset the general lack of interest I have in the character. The actress playing Lucy Saxon has a good vacant stare, but she’s never quite as fun as I think she could have been, the women of “Gridlock” and “42” are massively forgettable, Martha’s relatives are underwritten, Tallulah and the Empress of the Racnoss are absolute messes, and generally female characters with anything resembling depth or memorability are few and far between. It’s a disappointing season for women, although that is about to get better. L
Overall: If Davies had figured out how to make the Martha/Tenth Doctor dynamic work better, this could have been one of the all-time great seasons of this show. There are some really great stories and some fabulous new monsters, but it can be so unpleasant to watch these two characters interact that the season is weaker than it should be. B+/B
Up Next: There are still plenty of problems, but there is also Donna, so everything gets better pretty much immediately. Davies has some absolutely brilliant ideas in his final full season as showrunner, and also some intensely bad ones, but the Tenth Doctor and Donna are one of the very best Doctor-Companion pairings of all time, and their wonderful friendship substantially raises the quality of the season.

The New Age of speed-tasking
Nowadays, the Internet plays a prominent role in shaping our character and the way we live, given the fact that a big part of our daily time, is spent on it in many aspects: work, socializing, education and entertainment; with all of the above services provided more rapidly than the brain is naturally used to receive them. That being said, the same way an individual adapts to the environments of each of the above “chapters” in the “non-Internetic” life, in the same way, these “Internetic” environments affect the individual’s way of life. Human has always been a creature with great adaptive skills and based on the outer environment’s stimuli he shapes his form of existence to a core level. An individual’s productivity measure standards have become a lot more demanding since the Net has become an important tool for our lives. More specifically, the Internet has turned us into quick-moving beings; not giving that much focus not the way we do something — or the essential quality of it — but instead, the quantity of things we do in a given timetable.
People are expected to become better at multi-tasking, and someone being a possessor of deep and profound knowledge in a certain subject, is not that necessary anymore, since one can just type the subject he wants to learn about on one of the many search engines and acquire knowledge and information in a matter of minutes; what a Bachelor’s degree would give in four or more years. The problem with this knowledge, is not the knowledge itself — although sometimes the quality of it can be questionable —, but the way it is being absorbed into our brains. When one has so many things to learn about, it is difficult to research a specific subject in depth and “jumping” from subject to subject we learn things in their shallow form. This not the individual’s fault in any way, as we as a species always tended to want to learn more and more as information come our way. As long as information is being provided, we are going to examine it, process it and then, if it matches our criteria of being valid and truthful, we spread it. The variety and quantity of the information found on the Net, requires the individual to vet information instead of just taking what is there. As mentioned in the text written by Ventimiglia and Pullman, From Written to Digital, The New Literacy the author states that, “ In the digital world, being able to not only find information online but also determine its quality and validity is crucial.” . In the quoted phrase, the author points out a problem that has emerged substantially since the upcoming of the Internet. Regarding the fact that, at this time, anyone can publish the kind o information they want, without the restrictions that a publisher would apply to the material that is being published, there almost no limit to the absurdities that can be open to the public to review. Nowadays, one can find that the number of commercial websites, blogs and social media profiles and pages that are dedicated to, and promote certain views in politics, life and moral standards is far greater than what the average person could examine.
On the other hand, the Internet is making the world move at great speed. Educational institutions, companies and ordinary individuals can telecommunicate with others, from two different sides of the planet. In earlier years it would take two months for the letter of a merchant seaman, being at a port in New York, to arrive to his wife, residing in a city in the Mediterranean. For about two decades now, the same letter can be sent in less than a minute with no expenses at all. Another example of the goods that the Internet offers would be the ease in which two future business partners could meet. Searching for, and finding a business partner in the right online community can result in, a year’s time process in previous years, done in an hour, under favorable conditions. It can be said without a doubt, that the Net has made many aspects of our lives a lot easier, the average employee more precise in his doings, and the average company’s and individual’s bureaucratic procedures much faster and less painful. Could this situation though, be a case of “Too good to be true”?
While we are being carried away of the bright heavenly lights of the Internet’s offerings, we don’t realize the process that goes on behind the scenes of our shallow thoughts. In the text Is Google making us stupid?, Nicholas Carr states that “Today, in the age of software, we have come to think of [our brains] as operating “like computers.” But the changes, neuroscience tells us, go much deeper than metaphor. Thanks to our brain’s plasticity, the adaptation occurs also at a biological level.” In the above excerpt, the author points out a very serious matter. The brain, being an ever-changing mechanism of intelligence, conforms to what the external stimuli bring it to work with and hence it shapes and reformats its functions according to the “computer-connected-to-the-internet” model.
Concluding, we would be turning a blind eye if we said that the benefits of the Internet’s speed in society are not that important. The world has come to a point where it is unavoidable to work under some specific standards. As it is known by all natural sciences though, it is always wise to keep balance and harmony in our lives. We have to remember that, as humans, we are flawed in many ways and we always tend to search for the least backbreaking and laborious solution. The wise thing to do in this case, would be to reduce our reliance and utility of the Internet’s goods, and restrict ourselves in using them only when we really need it. In that way we are going to achieve a better and deeper understanding of the subject we are studying or work on.

Mba Abroad Counselling - Five MBA programs you might not know about, but should!
Many Indian MBA applicants interested in doing their mba abroad counselling know the M7, the top seven business programs in the US, because they are highly ranked names that are globally recognised. But the reality is, there are so many amazing programs out there, which offer a better fit and real advantages for their students. And restricting yourself to the M7 might not be realistic, or beneficial, for you.
We interact with admissions officers and representatives from programs all over the world through campus visits and information sessions in Mumbai, and membership in professional organisations such as AIGAC. This helps us dig deep and understand how certain programs can help Indian applicants get the most out of their business school experience. These interactions enable us to give our clients more information about fit, philosophy and opportunities, and are also exciting ways to learn about what’s new at business schools, what the school has to offer applicants and what it expects applicants to bring to its community.
So here are snapshots of five programs that MBA applicants should seriously consider because they provide the kind of engaging learning opportunities, professional networks and transformative experience we know you are looking for in a business school.
INSEAD, For the Globalist With campuses in three locations, Singapore, Abu Dhabi and Fontainebleau, all fully integrated, plus countless other opportunities for international exchange, INSEAD truly is the global business school. While it’s possible to spend the entirety of this fast-paced, intense, 10-month program on one campus, most students chose to divide their time between at least two countries, and note that while the scenery and business opportunities change, the quality of instruction and programming remains the same.
Many schools talk about diversity, but INSEAD lives it daily. If you are looking for a program that will give you an expanded understanding of the world, which you can leverage to transform your career, this is the program for you. With prominent alumni ranging from the current CEO of Credit Suisse, the managing director of Tata International, the president of Switzerland and an Oscar-winning filmmaker, among thousands of others, the INSEAD network is truly limitless.
Some practical considerations: The average age of INSEAD students is {29}, GMAT score averages are lower than US-based MBA programs and one of the program requirements is fluency in two languages with an interest in gaining familiarity with a third over the course of the MBA.
Ross, For the Hands-On Learner If you are looking for a truly interdisciplinary experience, Ross might be the perfect place for you. Ross’ commitment to action-based learning infuses every aspect of its MBA experience. From crisis management exercises in which students work to address urgent management issues over an intense 24 hour period, to the MAP project — Ross’ signature program in which MBA students spend 7 weeks in a company located anywhere in the world developing a real solution to the company’s real-life problem — everything at Ross is hands-on, professionally focused, and student-centric.
With the vast resources of the University of Michigan, and ample access for exchange, interdisciplinary inquiry and collaboration, including a variety of dual-degree options, this program is as far from a rigid business-only education as you can get, while still retaining the core rigour and training of a world-class MBA experience. With alumni ranging from the CEO of General Mills, to the CEO of PNC, to Google board members, the CFO of Nextel and an MSNBC anchor, Ross alumni work in every industry under the sun. Through the MAP project and other hands-on opportunities, backed by Ross’ focus on building strong analytic skills, Ross alumni walk out of the program with a comprehensive global network and professional connections.
Tepper, For the Numbers Guru If you believe that leaders are taught, not born, then Tepper is the place for you. Carnegie Mellon’s MBA program has the trademark hard-numbers approach the school is so well known for, with a rigorous approach to business practice and organisational behaviour that well equips Tepper graduates for business. At Tepper, analytics are the name of the game, and while not everyone who attends is a former engineer, Tepper students tend to have strong quantitative skills and focus.
With a rigid core-curriculum in the first year, Tepper students don’t have access to electives until the second year. But the logic behind this is to create a strong foundation of shared knowledge and vocabulary as well as to provide an informed perspective for the right elective choices that support future career goals. Tepper students have full access to all of Carnegie Mellon University resources, and can take courses in at any of the world-renowned, top-ranked programs, such as computer science, robotics, life sciences, design, engineering and entertainment. With alumni like the CEO of the Lixil Group, scientific research pioneers, economists and sports professionals, Tepper has a long history of MBA graduates who make a difference in management practice. Intimate, data-driven and strategic-thinking oriented, Tepper prides itself in providing students with strong analytic tools that can create high-impact solutions to business problems efficiently and quickly.
Schulich, For the Customiser With endless options and electives, a campus in Hyderabad, and an integrated approach to management education, York University’s business school is truly customisable and meets the needs of a wide variety of students. With the option to split your time between the Canada and Hyderabad campuses Indian students can truly adapt their business education to their business needs, and leverage their MBA for a global shift or a deeper local engagement.
The program’s unique eight-month-long consulting project is a tremendous learning opportunity that allows Schulich students to gain hands-on experience and connect with companies, industries, and a larger business environment. The project places students within a team for an extended period of time to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the business and finally they present recommendations to the company itself. With alumni like the CEO of TD Bank, the CEO of The Four Seasons, and founders of everything from recording studios to NGOs, Schulich alumni maintain close ties with the university. Located in the financial center of Canada, Schulich is perfect for the self-starter who is interested in transforming their thought process, immersing themselves in a long-term, real-world business scenario, and customising their experience in various ways.
IE, For the Pluralist El Insituto de Empressa, or IE, is a business program based in Madrid, Spain, with an additional undergraduate campus in Segovia and programs in Media, Law and Business Analytics which MBA students can access with dual masters options. With a unique emphasis on humanities as part of business education, flexible options that incorporate digital and live learning platforms, and a strong entrepreneurial focus, IE offers students a rare holistic learning experience. Highly ranked internationally, the program attracts students with more years of work experience than many other programs, giving the community the in-depth focus and diversity of professional and personal perspectives that add tremendous value.
Options for the MBA include 12 and 15-month programs with high rigour and intensity that enables students to jump back into the business world quickly after graduation. With options to complete dual-masters courses in programs like cyber security, visual media, big data and more, IE also allows students to customise their degree and study everything that interests them. With alumni like the chief marketing officer at Coca-Cola, the founder of Groupon Spain, the CFO for Vodafone New Zealand, among others, IE’s global connections allow alumni all over the world to remain close. With a price tag that is far lower than many other programs, but a standard of education that is just as high, IE is a stellar alternate path for an applicant interested in rigorous yet holistic learning.
