My entry for Maycury Week 2022 organised by @rhyewritersstudio , featuring Witch Freddie and Vampire Brian from my Witches×Monsters AU 💕

"If we can find a place we actually belong, where we're at peace, who's to deny us?"

I really wanted to make something new with my Witches×Monsters AU (that you can read here!) and I thought this was a perfect occasion to explore Brian and Freddie's bond in this story. If you thought I forgot about this AU you're wrong, and I hope to be able to create more content for it soon 🥺💕 I loved drawing this and I'm incredibly happy with the result!

I wrote a lil drabble under the cut, nothing new if you know this AU but I feel it's a nice extra 🥰 It’s set when the boys are already at the Witches’ cottage, a safe place where all of them can be themselves and practice magic without Hunters around, but Brian still needs a boost to his confidence and some reassuring words.

Brian had just woken up, the Sun almost setting on the horizon before leaving space to the Moon and the darkness she carried with her. It was a bit early for him, but Chrissie was already cooking and the broth’s scent filled Brian's nostrils, though it wasn't enough to lighten his mood.

He sat on a bench in the garden, admiring the setting Sun, and missing the real warmth of the day. It was another gloomy moment for him, his still heart constantly aching for being a Vampire, a curse imposed on him against his will.

When he walked out the cottage as well, Freddie noticed Brian's dark face and sat next to him. For the past few years he blamed himself for Mary's attack against Brian, her choice of turning him into a vampire and not Freddie; she was Freddie's friend, but that was a betrayal and he put a hex on her to keep her afar, and yet he still felt it was his fault if Brian was now cursed. But it wasn't the only reason for his care about Brian, his friendship was genuine since when Bri was still a human.

"Hey, Bri."

Brian's red eyes glowed in the sunset, warm and kind despite the color, and Freddie smiled.

"Freddie." He nodded, his curls bouncing. "Sorry, it seems today I'm missing the Sun and the brightness of the daylight."

"You know you don't have to excuse yourself with me, darling." Freddie nudged his arm and Bri gave him a sheepish smile, his pointy canines poking out his lips. "What else is troubling you?"

"I... I don't know, I feel getting blood from Chrissie as well is unfair, she and the other girls are sheltering us and I'd want to help instead of making her weaker." He murmured, aware that he needed blood to survive and that Freddie and Chrissie were offering their blood to drink every once in a while, when the animal prey caught by the Werewolves weren’t enough.

Freddie shook his head, acknowledging Brian’s troubles. "I saw her, she's doing well! But... if you want to help, just go inside and give her a hand with the dinner!" He suggested. More than often Brian needed a distraction to his own thoughts, let it be music, astronomy, or -more recently- Chrissie herself.

"Freddie?" The Vampire stretched his skinny arms.

"Yes?"

"Do you think I'll be useful to the group one day? John and Roger are skilled and powerful Werewolves, you and the girls are amazing Witches... and I'm just a sad Vampire." He moped, earning a patient eye roll from Freddie, framed by a thick line of kohl. 

"You're not just a sad Vampire, Brian!" The Witch placed a friendly hand on his back in a soothing gesture. "You're our friend and I love you no matter what!"

Freddie inflated his hairy chest, doing everything he could to boost his best friend’s confidence, being earnest about his feelings and just letting him know that he was there, as always, a steady point in their lives. 

"You're intelligent and have a heart of gold, Brian, and I'm sure one day you'll be able to master all your Vampire powers and turn your sorrow into art, as we all do. And it'll be brighter than everyone's, I tell you!" He gave Brian a huge bright smile, showing his teeth he was usually so shy about, and a small light started glowing in Brian’s still heart.

"Do you really believe it, Freddie?"

"Absolutely. Look into my eyes, Bri. You can do anything! And if you have any doubt or fear... we're all here for you."

A new chapter of There's a cottage in the woods is up on AO3! 💖 It's been a while since the boys have arrived in the cottage, and for John and Veronica is time to finally face their feelings. But it's not as easy as it may seem, specially for Veronica...

I’m really sorry for the abyssal wait for this chapter, but I hope you’ll like it! After this I plan to write more adventurous and lighthearted chapters with our beloved witches and monsters! ^^

Not really what I planned to draw tonight but I needed to get used to pencils again so here are our Werewolves and their Witch gfs 💕💕💕 Werewolves!John and Roger with Witches!Veronica and Dominique from my Halloween AU

In their wolf form John has brown/grey fur and his two beauty marks are visible, while Roger's fur is is a bit scruffier, blonde/white and he wears a steel necklace. Also yeah long lashes because why not 👌🏻💕 Their human forms are their NOTW looks.

Eileen-Crys's Queen Halloween!AU (or WitchesxMonsters AU)

An idea that popped up randomly while drawing and scrilling through some Halloween stuff ~☆ I may write some drabbles about this who knows 🤔 These are some of the things I got now, feel free to send me asks to expand this au and write down some lil scenes 💕

Dominique, Veronica and Chrissie are witches that live together in a big house in the forest

Their home is guarded by a mysterious woodsy creature, Jim, who scares travellers and hunters but is actually a big cutie. He's a kind of Man-Thing-esque creature.

Freddie is a witch too and travels with his friends Brian, Roger and John.

Brian is a Vampire, he and Freddie are chased by Mary who's a Vampire as well and is the one who turned Brian into a vampire.

Roger and John are both werewolves. Not the usual kind of scary humanoid werewolves tho, they just turn into big dogs at night.

Roger is born werewolf. He's a golden wolf, usually overexcited and playful, barks and jumps a lot and he likes to annoy Brian.

John has been turned into a werewolf as a kid the night his dad got killed by another werewolf. As a wolf he's brown and grey, very quiet and well behaved but he's also a big ruffian always looking for treats and rubs.

As wolves they can't talk and they're more driven by instinct. They understand humans perfectly.

One night the three witches are out during the full moon and casually meet the weird group of travellers, with John and Roger as wolves. They eventually let them in their house.

Freddie is a witch, very skilled spellcaster and alchemist, also interested in crystals. In this AU male witches are very rare and usually seen as a disgrace even worse than female witches.

Dominique is the most expert witch among the 3 of them: she's a curses expert and poison brewer, with some skills in necromancy. She killed lots of witch hunters and is basically a badass.

Chrissie is an animal charmer, baker and stars/moon witch. She's also a master at hairstyling and disguise.

Veronica is a healing witch, crystal enthusiast as well and herbalist. She takes care of their library and archive. She's mute because a hunter caught her and tried to hang her years before; she's been saved by Dom and Chrissie but her throat was damaged.

Brian is actually an astronomer and he loves to exchange his scientific knowleges with Chrissie's more magical and spiritual ones.

Dominique ends up being the only one who can tame Roger both in wolf and in human form. He adores her, some of the others believe she charmed him with a spell but she didn't-

Since Veronica is silent and very withdrawn compared to the others, John immediately gets interested in her and notices his company helps her a lot with her anxiety, first in his wolf form and later as human.

As you imagined, Freddie falls in love with Jim the woods creature 👀 He tries to teach him how to read and talk and he loves to be carried around on his back!

Also Jim takes all the injured creatures he finds in the woods to the Witches' house so they can heal them.

Freddie, Brian and the two wolves followed the three witches to their house, their invitation for a cozy night in front of the fireplace and a good bowl of soup was already making all of them all fuzzy.

It was then that they noticed two yellow eyes glowing in the woods, right next to their big cottage. A shiver ran down Freddie's spine and he clutched onto his crystal pendant, ready to cast a spell.

The creature growled and stomped closer, shaking the trees as he walked by, until it showed itself in front of the whole group gritted his teeth with another growl. Roger started barking at him, angry and loud, while John stayed back but was growling as well, ready to attack.

"Jim! Don't worry, they're with us." Dominique raised a hand in front of the monster's face and he sniffed the air, smelling the men and the wolves' scents.

"Can you please allow us home?" Dom asked once more and Jim finally leaned his forehead against her hand, earning some soft caresses from the witch. Roger and John calmed down seeing that the creature was tamed and also Brian and Freddie relaxed.

"What... who is that?" Fred asked, getting closer to Jim with awe.

"He's Jim, our house's guardian. He lives in the forest around here, we don't know exactly what kind of creature he is... but he's good, he protects us and the woods from hunters and we take care of him in exchange, with food and some company." Chrissie explained and Dominique slowly led Freddie's hand on Jim's head.

Jim opened his eyes and stared directly in Freddie's. He felt his heart skipping a beat, they were the same color of the sunset, huge and gentle, while his head was covered in a soft moss and he had flowers sprouting here and there. His body seemed made with stone and wood held together by magic, and Freddie thought that was the most unique and beautiful creature he's ever seen.

He didn't resist the urge to hug Jim, even though he was as big as his arm, and smiled against the soft chest.

The creature tilted his head glancing at Dominique and she chuckled. "Now let's go in, shall we?"

It wasn't easy for Freddie to leave the hug, but in the end he gave Jim a final wave and followed the others inside the house, walking next to the ladies.

"I really really like your guardian, darling!"

I absolutely love your Halloween AU! 🤧💖💘💝 There is something I thought of asking tho, how did Dominique and Chrissie meet? It was already implied that they were together when they saved Veronica. another question but what happened that made the witches invite the boys to their house? (I hope the questions made sense😔👈👉)

Thank youuuu 🤧💕💕💕 yeah Dom and Chrissie have been known each other for a bit more than a year when they saved Veronica and already lived in their cottage for a few months. Dom was travelling when she met Chrissie in a city where witch hunting began to spread, so they became friends, escaped from some hunters and finally hid in the forest. Chrissie had heard about a house in the deep of the forest but everyone knew the woods were haunted and no one dared to walk in, 'cause the monster who lived there was too powerful and the cottage's owners were said to be slaughtered by the creature. It took them a while to befriend Jim tbh but in the end he became their guardian. They found Veronica almost by accident during one of their rare walks in the city to buy some supplies at the market, on their way home they heard her distant screams and when they found her she was still alive but the hunter was gone.

They met the boys four years after Veronica's rescue, during a full moon. The boys managed to -inadvertently- surpass the magic barrier around the house (Dom and Chrissie built it as an extra protection against humans) while traveling and their meeting was totally unexpected. After making sure the boys didn't have bad intentions but were just looking for a place to rest, the witches invited them home. Eventually they found out that hunting witches and monsters became even more popular, violent and apparently rewarding so even the boys ended up living in the cottage 😅

In the monsters au, what are things Jim enjoys? Does he grow plants at all, or does he know how to navigate the forest and its flora naturally?

Jim is a very peculiar creature, he loves observing things most of all. Sometimes he sits and watches ants working, spiders making their webs, birds building their nests etc. Sometimes he observes the Witches with the same interest and seems to find Freddie's shiny jewels particularly charming 👀

He's probably born in the forest so he knows every tree and bush like the palm of his hand. And yeah he can help trees and plants grow or heal with his magic, while he has to bring hurt animals to the Witches. It's still unclear the way he "eats"... does he eat at all? 🤔😂

In your WitchesxMonsters AU, what did Veronica and Dominique think when they saw John and Roger turn into humans for the first time?

Omg that went wild 😂 The girls knew they were Werewolves but it was still a surprise since the first night they had the boys at home they all ended up sleeping in the livingroom before the sunrise, spreaded all around on the sofas, on the armchairs and Rog fell asleep on the carpet at Dom's feet.

When she woke up she almost squished him and he woke up with a yelp, almost flipping her off until he realised where he was. At first Dom thought she was hallucinating and thought there was a mistake, then did 2+2 and got that -obviously- the werewolves turned into human during the day! What she didn't expect was that they were naked because of course when transforming they can't have their clothes on! 😂

John fell asleep on the sofa cuddled on Ronnie's lap as a wolf and when she woke up she found a naked boy squeezed between her and the sofa's back, almost causing her a heart attack. Since she couldn't scream she tossed a pillow at Dom to catch her attention, waking John up as well as everyone else. It ended up in a laugh and Fred and Brian, who kept John and Roger's clothes, allowed them to get dressed up.

Dom wasn't really impressed at first even if Roger did catch her attention 👀 while Ronnie got all flustered and John apologised for a whole week for the accident, trying his best to wake up as soon as he transformed into a human and get dressed 😳😂😂😂

Well hmm the concepts of vampire!bri, werewolf!roger and witch!freddie were already in the Halloqueen drawing I made last year and I'm redoing for this Halloween, as for John last year I made him a mummy and this year a ghost but neither didn't fit really well here and I got soft thinking of him as an "unusual" kind of werewolf, more quiet and not aggressive, but also I thought it was cute to have both him and Roger as werewolves 💕 I love Brian as a vampire and I know it's quite mainstream mostly because he actually has pointy fangs but has also a big contrast with his being vegan/vegetarian irl. Freddie has always had witchy vibes, he loves cat, he's that kind of exotic and mysterious and extravagant that really fits. Roger looks great as a werewolf, he often wore fur coats and idk he always felt like a big puppy sometimes (also a lion never forget! Not in this case but in general) so yeah they came out pretty easily. As much as the ladies as witches, I guess, they're more human-like and apparently normal but all have special talents and can do magic 💕

They're not witches a la Hogwarts tho with wands and blasting spells, they're more natural-oriented witches that rely on the forces of nature, crystals and spirits. Their magic involve prayers and rituals, brewing potions, baking, making candles, magic circles etc. They may use objects to focus their magic like a wand but also a staff, a book, a crystal... They're not necessarily evil, on the contrary they like to help others in danger, but in this AU they're hunted by the community and so they hide in the forest. Freddie perhaps is more into weirder amd darker magic just because it's cool 😚 I wrote all their specializations in the AU's main post 💖

How did the boys meet in the Halloween AU?

John and Roger are childhood friends, when John's family has been attacked by a werewolf and he got "infected", Roger's family took care of him (the werewolf who attacked John was actually a rival of Roger's family).

Brian and Freddie knew each other for a while thanks to some common astronomy studies but Bri at first didn't know that Freddie was a witch and his studies were actually for magic purposes. Mary is a very old Vampire and was a close friend of Freddie secretly looking for someone to turn into a Vampire, but she didn't want to ""ruin her friendship with Fred"" so Brian got to be her victim. Of course Freddie got mad at her (friendship ruined anyway ayy), he aided Brian and ran away with him.

The two duos met almost randomly during the beginning of the witch hunt, Vampires and Werewolves were also targets and immediately something sparkled between the four of them, they were able to watch each other's back and eventually fight all together!

Do Verónica and Jim share any kind of bond with not being able to speak verbally?

Kinda, yeah! He thinks she's similar to him in that way and she's better at making him understand things through gestures and expressions. Jim can make sounds tho, but he uses them more with Dom and Chrissie as a response to their voices, while with Ronnie he instinctively stays silent and communicates through gestures. They're an odd duo 😊💕
