Yes, him Michelangelo...he was your everything, you stopped by the place where you held him one last time in your arms. Again you heard his brothers screaming his name as you felt his life juices staining your clothes.

You heard his last words one more time whispering to you. "I love you my baby c-cakes"

Tears flowing down your cheeks as you remembered how Raphael ripped him out of your arms blaming you for his death and all three left you. They didnt wanted you to be part of their life anymore.

"It’s All my fault" you whispered and took a big sip of the bottle as you fell down to your knees caressing the place where he left the world of the living. It was your fault! Hourglass. Fascinating. It was the first thing her eyes immediately landed on when she walked into his office. This was her first detention.

He asked her to wait and she did. She was a very obedient girl.

Hourglass. Still fascinating. Her father gave her one when she was younger as a birthday gift. There was this strange enjoyable feeling that she could have from simply watching the little sand in the hourglass fell down. One by one.

Time. It was an uncatchable thing. Even with magic, people still failed to keep time from moving on. Time. Hourglass. Strange but mysteriously enchanting.

One. Two. Three. She counted.

Focusing. Memorizing. Murmuring. She lost herself in the world of the hourglass.

Her little finger was tabbing on the desk. One. Two. Three. It almost liked an old chanting. One. Two. Three.

Then she heard a voice. Someone was calling her from far away. Horatia.

The sand inside the hourglass suddenly formed into a form. A female with an alluring voice, asking her to join them, to return to her land, to her family.

“What have you seen in there?” he was curious but cautious. Something in her eyes gave away what she experienced a moment ago.

She tilted her head, watching him with the same amount of curious and cautious. He was waiting for her answer. Patiently. The sand in the hourglass continued its job without failing. One. Two. Three. Time was passing between the two of them, but none seemed to make a move.

And, she smiled. A smile sent shivering to his spine. A smile did not belong to a twelve years old girl. “If you have time in your hand, what will you do, sir?”

She asked a simple question but he remained silent. He narrowed his eyes as if he was waiting for something more. Nevertheless, nothing followed. With her creepy smile, she just stared back at him. Waiting.

“I will do nothing. Time is not something for human to toy with. It has its function and human, us, could only have a wishingful moment to control it. However, the consequence for those who play with time is beyond repairable. And, you will never allow to come close to my desk again.”

His response was straight, cold, and distant. He took the hourglass away from his desk. It was a gift from an old friend and it was not a cursed object. However, he always had an uncertain feeling with the little thing. And today concluded his decision to move it away from public eyes. Then, the girl brought a different problem.

Yet, he made no indication he would follow up with what happened today. He signaled her to follow. It was time for her detention.

Inside his pocket, the hourglass turned to a new cycle. One. Two. Three.

Choices and regret

Here’s a quick thought vomit on regret.

      It is normal to feel regret, and everyone feels regret at some point in their lives. Regret propagates from wishing you would have made a secondary choice such as deciding to do something else at a moment, or to not do something. By doing something else, is to choose a different action at the moment of decision, and to not do something is to choose to inhibit an action which causes future consequence. Each choice causes consequence, as well as each non-choice. If we choose to do something, it propagates into a chain of events which unfolds into the future we will become. If we choose to do something else, a different future will unfold. If we inhibit a choice or action, the future changes due to the consequence of inaction. This is like the “butterfly effect”.

re·gret Noun : A feeling of sadness, repentance, or disappointment over something that has happened or been done.

      Regret can be defined as an emotion or a mental state in which a person might feel “bad” and have feelings like or coupled to: sorrow, pain, sadness, wishingness, hurt, despair, and anger. To regret is to feel a negative sense of loss in which you feel like you lost something or lost out on something. A regret could be: “I wish I would have treated my ex better because I know they were the right one for me, but now it is too late”. The missed opportunity here is having a suitable mate in the moment we desire it in the future (which is now at the moment of regret). It’s mostly because of a “missed opportunity”, an opportunity which would have increased our situation now more than the other opportunity. The mental state aspect causes a rumination over the “loss”, and going over constantly the secondary choice, and how the future would be different. The person destroys their present situation with visions of how it “could” be different, instead of living and accepting it, and to look for future opportunities.

 “If only…, If only…”

      There’s no reason to regret anything. The reason is because of your decision back then was a decision you wanted. You chose willingly to make the choice you did. The feeling that you missed out on something that you could now have is irrational. I will explain the reasons.

1.      There is no way of predicting what the future will bring.

2.      Because there is now way of predicting the future, there is no way of knowing which decision is best for the future.

3.      Making a choice you believe is best for the future, but upsets you now, is sure to cause harm.

4.      There is a possibility that your decision now is the best one, and won’t cause harm in the future.

5.      Regrets only weigh us down, causing harm.

C. Because there is no way to predict the future, making an upsetting decision harms you now, and there is a possibility your decision now brings no harm in the future, the best choice is to choose what you want now.

      Although it’s inevitable to have regret, it’s irrational to regret anything, because the source of regret is completely out of your control. Even making the choice you would have liked in that moment, would cause you to regret at the moment of the choice. Making the choice you want then would satiate you then, and (possibly) regret in the future. Yet, that future regret is not certain, nor predictable, and there is now way to know future regret. It could be that the choice you made then is the one you will want now. Because of this, I propose any choice made is one which is wanted in the moment of the decision. Even the prediction of what the future would be like now is, in essence, a post-hoc fallacy. It is impossible to predict the future, and even when predicting the future, there is no way to know that the future you predict, will in fact be the future that would really happen without “going back in time” and experiencing that choice. Because we predict a choice might move in a certain direction does not mean it will, just like we predicted then that the choice we would make is the best one. There are many external factors  which influence a decision, and prediction is highly susceptible to  fundamental attribution error.

      By making a choice of what you want now isn’t specifically a whimsical decision or spontaneous choice, it might involve much deliberation and thought. Yet, to waste all that time on a decision you believe will be beneficial, and then regretting it later will only exacerbate your situation. It is best to look at things with an honest outlook in which you did the right thing. Even if now, you know you didn’t know what you were doing, that idea is irrelevant. We all grow, gain experience and wisdom, but there is now way to go back and use that wisdom in those situations in which they would be useful. On the contrary, to not make decisions because you know you are unwise or not suited to make that decisions is a waste of possible opportunity and will certainly meet with regret in the future. My advice is to make the choice you believe is the choice to make, enjoy it now, and know in the future, if there is any regret, the regret is irrational and only causes rumination and self-defeat. Regret is inevitable, we all change our wants and desires with time and maturation, but instead of regretting what could have been, enjoy what is or will be now. Each “regret” is irrational, and at best, is a learning experience to increase our wisdom, knowledge, and to discipline our character.
