You should be using an RSS reader

On OCTOBER 23 at 7PM, I'll be in DECATUR, GEORGIA, presenting my novel THE BEZZLE at EAGLE EYE BOOKS.

No matter how hard we all wish it were otherwise, the sad fact is that there aren't really individual solutions to systemic problems. For example: your personal diligence in recycling will have no meaningful impact on the climate emergency.

I get it. People write to me all the time, they say, "What can I change about my life to fight enshittification, or, at the very least, to reduce the amount of enshittification that I, personally, experience?"

It's frustrating, but my general answer is, "Join a movement. Get involved with a union, with EFF, with the FSF. Tell your Congressional candidate to defend Lina Khan from billionaire Dem donors who want her fired. Do something systemic."

There's very little you can do as a consumer. You're not going to shop your way out of monopoly capitalism. Now that Amazon has destroyed most of the brick-and-mortar and digital stores out of business, boycotting Amazon often just means doing without. The collective action problem of leaving Twitter or Facebook is so insurmountable that you end up stuck there, with a bunch of people you love and rely on, who all love each other, all hate the platform, but can't agree on a day and time to leave or a destination to leave for and so end up stuck there.

I've been experiencing some challenging stuff in my personal life lately and yesterday, I just found myself unable to deal with my usual podcast fare so I tuned into the videos from the very last XOXO, in search of uplifting fare:

Molly's talk was so, so good, but when I got to her call to action, I found myself pulling a bit of a face:

But the platforms do not exist without the people, and there are a lot more of us than there are of them. The platforms have installed themselves in a position of power, but they are also vulnerable…

Are the platforms really that vulnerable? The collective action problem is so hard, the switching costs are so high – maybe the fact that "there's a lot more of us than there are of them" is a bug, not a feature. The more of us there are, the thornier our collective action problem and the higher the switching costs, after all.

And then I had a realization: the conduit through which I experience Molly's excellent work is totally enshittification-proof, and the more I use it, the easier it is for everyone to be less enshittified.

This conduit is anti-lock-in, it works for nearly the whole internet. It is surveillance-resistant, far more accessible than the web or any mobile app interface. It is my secret super-power.

It's RSS.

RSS (one of those ancient internet acronyms with multiple definitions, including, but not limited to, "Really Simple Syndication") is an invisible, automatic way for internet-connected systems to public "feeds." For example, rather than reloading the Wired homepage every day and trying to figure out which stories are new (their layout makes this very hard to do!), you can just sign up for Wired's RSS feed, and use an RSS reader to monitor the site and preview new stories the moment they're published. Wired pushes about 600 words from each article into that feed, stripped of the usual stuff that makes Wired nearly impossible to read: no 20-second delay subscription pop-up, text in a font and size of your choosing. You can follow Wired's feed without any cookies, and Wired gets no information about which of its stories you read. Wired doesn't even get to know that you're monitoring its feed.

I don't mean to pick on Wired here. This goes for every news source I follow – from CNN to the New York Times. But RSS isn't just good for the news! It's good for everything. Your friends' blogs? Every blogging platform emits an RSS feed by default. You can follow every one of them in your reader.

Not just blogs. Do you follow a bunch of substackers or other newsletters? They've all got RSS feeds. You can read those newsletters without ever registering in the analytics of the platforms that host them. The text shows up in black and white (not the sadistic, 8-point, 80% grey-on-white type these things all default to). It is always delivered, without any risk of your email provider misclassifying an update as spam:

Did you know that, by default, your email sends information to mailing list platforms about your reading activity? The platform gets to know if you opened the message, and often how far along you've read in it. On top of that, they get all the private information your browser or app leaks about you, including your location. This is unbelievably gross, and you get to bypass all of it, just by reading in RSS.

Are your friends too pithy for a newsletter, preferring to quip on social media? Unfortunately, it's pretty hard to get an RSS feed from Insta/FB/Twitter, but all those new ones that have popped up? They all have feeds. You can follow any Mastodon account (which means you can follow any Threads account) via RSS. Same for Bluesky. That also goes for older platforms, like Tumblr and Medium. There's RSS for Hacker News, and there's a sub-feed for the comments on every story. You can get RSS feeds for the Fedex, UPS and USPS parcels you're awaiting, too.

Your local politician's website probably has an RSS feed. Ditto your state and national reps. There's an RSS feed for each federal agency (the FCC has a great blog!).

Your RSS reader lets you put all these feeds into folders if you want. You can even create automatic folders, based on keywords, or even things like "infrequently updated sites" (I follow a bunch of people via RSS who only update a couple times per year – cough, Danny O'Brien, cough – and never miss a post).

Your RSS reader doesn't (necessarily) have an algorithm. By default, you'll get everything as it appears, in reverse-chronological order.

Does that remind you of anything? Right: this is how social media used to work, before it was enshittified. You can single-handedly disenshittify your experience of virtually the entire web, just by switching to RSS, traveling back in time to the days when Facebook and Twitter were more interested in showing you the things you asked to see, rather than the ads and boosted content someone else would pay to cram into your eyeballs.

Now, you sign up to so many feeds that you're feeling overwhelmed and you want an algorithm to prioritize posts – or recommend content. Lots of RSS readers have some kind of algorithm and recommendation system (I use News, which offers both, though I don't use them – I like the glorious higgeldy-piggeldy of the undifferentiated firehose feed).

But you control the algorithm, you control the recommendations. And if a new RSS reader pops up with an algorithm you're dying to try, you can export all the feeds you follow with a single click, which will generate an OPML file. Then, with one click, you can import that OPML file into any other RSS reader in existence and all your feeds will be seamlessly migrated there. You can delete your old account, or you can even use different readers for different purposes.

You can access RSS in a browser or in an app on your phone (most RSS readers have an app), and they'll sync up, so a story you mark to read later on your phone will be waiting for you the next time you load up your reader in a browser tab, and you won't see the same stories twice (unless you want to, in which case you can mark them as unread).

RSS basically works like social media should work. Using RSS is a chance to visit a utopian future in which the platforms have no power, and all power is vested in publishers, who get to decide what to publish, and in readers, who have total control over what they read and how, without leaking any personal information through the simple act of reading.

And here's the best part: every time you use RSS, you bring that world closer into being! The collective action problem that the publishers and friends and politicians and businesses you care about is caused by the fact that everyone they want to reach is on a platform, so if they leave the platform, they'll lose that community. But the more people who use RSS to follow them, the less they'll depend on the platform.

Unlike those largely useless, performative boycotts of widely used platforms, switching to RSS doesn't require that you give anything up. Not only does switching to RSS let you continue to follow all the newsletters, webpages and social media accounts you're following now, it makes doing so better: more private, more accessible, and less enshittified.

Switching to RSS lets you experience just the good parts of the enshitternet, but that experience is delivered in manner that the new, good internet we're all dying for.

Don't worry about which RSS reader you start with. It literally doesn't matter. Remember, you can switch readers with two clicks and take all the feeds you've subscribed to with you! If you want a recommendation, I have nothing but praise for Newsblur, which I've been paying $2/month for since 2011 (!):

Subscribing to feeds is super-easy, too: the links for RSS feeds are invisibly embedded in web-pages. Just paste the URL of a web-page into your RSS reader's "add feed" box and it'll automagically figure out where the feed lives and add it to your subscriptions.

It's still true that the new, good internet will require a movement to overcome the collective action problems and the legal barriers to disenshittifying things. Almost nothing you do as an individual is going to make a difference.

But using RSS will! Using RSS to follow the stuff that matters to you will have an immediate, profoundly beneficial impact on your own digital life – and it will appreciably, irreversibly nudge the whole internet towards a better state.

Rabbit

This is a short horror I wrote not so long ago, I shared it on facebook, noone really cared and thought I was maybe a bit too creepy.

Ok so this is gonna sound weird..  Who am I kidding, it is fucking ubiquitously brain charred insane. I... bought a rabbit, and everything seemed fine, until... it escaped. Now, there is only couple things that could happen to a normal critter running loose in a flat. I, unfortunatelly for it, valued my computer and other electronics in my apartment. So I went out for some rat poison and when I came back, couple cabels were chewed down. I was pissed, but fortunatelly, I thought of it and bought new ones on my way in and I had some spare... Anyways, to get to the core, as I went along some of the chewed cabels... I heard a sound under an armchair. I flipped it over and there it was, but... not in a way I was expecting it to be. It was alive, happilly chewing and washing its weirdly cute nose and I just couldn't believe my eyes. It, changed, for a while I thought this might not be my rabbit because it was looking out of... place. In an anatomic way. Not wanting to do anything with it, I put it in cage and just closed it. Not really thinking about it for a few days, I forgot, couple times, that I have this monster in here. But the fourth day, I come on home after work, look at the cage ( you need to understand, I am used to getting up early and with that comes low amount of realising what is going on.) And there it was, chewing on its own fucking paw right next to ton of food I left there acumulating for four days now. I also noticed bloody and bent wires of the cage. That bastard almost got out. Ok, now I have a carnivorous weirdly looking rabbit. Is it rabies? It had to happen during the time I was out. I need to kill it. But I will get charged for abusing an animal, but what if it will get out? Man I need someone else to get a hand on this. I thought about this all as I poured myself some(moore) whiskey. And...I woke up in the morning. Ya I fucked up, it was out of its cage and I dont know where it went but let me tell you, I am not going back there. I just can't, I mean you havent seen the paw, it was... done. Chewed down to the bone, and it still got away like nothing. Either that or something else came for it. I just need to feel safe, somewhere. Just as I thought, it wasnt a good idea going to a police station with this. But anything is better I guess.... Ok, first day at the facility. I am today meeting Dr.Shaw Nice to meet you You too, please take a seat. I sat down in one of the leather futons( I must say, very less comfortable, than expected) and got to tell her every little detail. When I was leaving, she tore a piece of paper with some scribblings. Handed it to me and I went away with prescription for pills against hallucinations. And also, my family was sent to my flat to take care of the "poor" rabbit.

Diane looked all over the flat and there was everything which could account for a weird tale of terror. Blood on the floor, bent wires of cage? What the hell happened in there, was jonah doing some experiments with this thing? Or worse? Where is it? She heard a thump as some dust and ash fell on her head, ahe looked up and, having weird feelings she covered her face. What she saw was not even remotelly possible, yet the creature stood out in the blackness of a vent where it escaped to. It had red blare of eyes, and... somehow it was.. smiling? No that is not possible. "What in the fucking hell did you do, Jonah?!"She whispered squirming as she ran leaving the flat door open. Tomorrow morning, two passerbyes will find her in a sewer, dumped by a company, which took testing on animals too far. Who made the mistake of not perfecting the security system before letting people work there, who got breached by animal rescuers...and those rescuers... gave animals away...

How to Select the right wire?

Right Material

The most common types of automobile wire materials are copper and aluminium. Copper wire is more conductive, flexible, and less likely to corrode than aluminium wire. Wire Size/ Gauge

The gauge number corresponds to the thickness of the wire, which is the contrary of what newbies might think: the thicker the wire, the lower the gauge number. 8-gauge wire, for example, is thicker than 20-gauge wire. The gauge you’ll need is determined by the circuit’s current draw and the distance between the circuit and the power source.

If you’re buying for repairs, make sure you have the technical manuals for any tractors, equipment, or other vehicles you’ll be working on hand. The handbook will typically specify which gauge of wires are required for which components, allowing you to keep the correct cables on hand. Keep in mind that wire with a gauge of 8 or greater is commonly referred to as “cable.”

Amperage

The “load” a cable can carry is measured in amperes, commonly abbreviated as “amps.” The entire quantity of electricity that can flow across a wire is measured in amps. Every wire in your workplace should have a current rating, and it should be clearly labelled. Overloading a wire is hazardous to your employees and your customers; a wire with the incorrect current rating might short out, causing equipment to stall in hazardous areas, vital damage systems, and even spark fires in extreme circumstances. Always double-check that the automotive wire you’re ordering can handle the load by knowing your amps.

Wire Types

“Primary” Wire

This is the most frequent wire seen in car dealerships. It’s a good general-purpose automobile wire, as the name says. It has a multi-stranded core and flexible insulation that makes it perfect for squeezing through tiny places.

“Motor” Wire

The main distinction between GPT and Motor wire is that motor wire has finer wire strands. This enables it to work with greater voltages. Grease, oil, acids, water, solvents, and fungus are all resistant to it. The motor wire is increasingly being used in automotive applications, despite its ubiquitous use as internal wiring in appliances and HVAC equipment.

Becoming Elizabeth-critical view, part 1: Elizabeth and Thomas Seymour WTF

There is a lot I have to say about this tv-show, especially as person with ADHD. I watched 4 episodes so far. (So if you didn’t see it, don’t read this.)

Overall I liked plenty of things in the tv show-but I absolutely think they screwed over Elizabeth and Thomas Seymour plotline. And at times it felt as if we were looking girl with split personality. Like WTF was going on her? Naive and bold, strong-opinioned yet caved easily moments later. Mature and immature. 

When you want your character to have these up and lows-they have to make sense. The character arcs have to be justified. Here maybe in tv show they look that way-but it’s historical character that we know plenty about. 

During her childhood-her mother and uncle are executed for supposed adultery and incest.

When she was eight, her step-mother Catherine Howard was executed for supposed adulterry and not being virgin(she was sexually abused as minor, because Agnes Tilney was neglectful of her wards). 

(And I say supposed adultery because I personally believe she too was framed. Just even better than Anne Boleyn.)

What would be then this girl taught by people around her-them who knew about all of this and understood it?

Probably this: Chastity is the most important thing girl has and you’re not to ever allow any man but your husband to touch you! Preferably not at all! You are never to be alone with man!

What would she herself think of her mother and Catherine Howard’s demise. Remember, she was very clever, and understood things well beyond her years. After all-she quickly caught up to fact she was suddenly not called a princess-she was not yet 3 years old.

It’s possible she’d have strong opinion about it. And don’t say-oh she’d be just sad of her mum’s death and feel like crying whenever somebody mentions Anne Boleyn. I really hate that they called her Great Whore 99% of the time. I am fan of Catherine of Aragon-but it felt weird, that everybody would do that. One or two-ok, but everybody? That’s not realistic. 

Imo Henry VIII had ADHD and very likely all 3 of his kids too. 

Prone to outburts, very strongly opinioned from young age, not easy to forgive, remembering past wrongdoings. Etc. 

(But we forget where we left our keys, for what item we went into room, that there was homework etc.)

Women with ADHD are more prone to emotional rollecosters. True, and perhaps that is what Becoming Elizabeth wanted to portray. Emotional teenager with ADHD, in mourning. She is bound to be overly emotional, her defences weakened etc, right? 

Is that realistic? Talking from experience as woman who suffered from undiagnosed ADHD for years? No.

1st of all, we can be very mature(well beyond our years) and have extremely strong opinions even as children and not diverge from them ever.

Such as on smoking and drugs, right and wrong, etc. 

But at same time, for many ADHDs the puberty came later. Not physically, but emotionally. Some people think that is from drugs to cope with ADHD. I didn’t take them as teen, I was not diagnosed until mid 20s. Yet this stagnation in development happened to me too. 

I am no scientist but personally think because our brain is wired differently, it takes body longer to connect all the cabels. In my case emotions which you’d associate with puberty didn’t hit me until I was about 19. Like 5 years later.

I was absolutely calm between 10-19, and at the time my ADHD wasn’t even acting that strong. 

My father died from long-term illness when I was teen, was I sad? Actually no. He was suffering for months and his suffering was over. 

It wasn’t suprise so it wasn’t actually as big of blow, as if it came suddenly.

Elizabeth’s reaction to her Father’s death suggest she wasn’t aware how bad his health has became-she was saddenned and shocked by it. And indeed could be emotionally not ok for while. Any surprise/shock causes as stress and we hate stress.

But loss of loved one or any stress, doesn’t make one loose all their inhibitions as soon as man clicks fingers! Especially if that person previously lead you on and you know they are behaving inappropriately and it can mean your ruin.

So is it realistic for ADHD girl outburst in full swing and calm few seconds later? Forget and forgive in 1 second?

HELL NO! Don’t get me wrong. You can reduce the anger to minimum with some methods. For me works-waving my favourite food  before my face or new book. I will focus on food/book instead on wishing to slap you. But if you think that after I finish eating/reading you’re forgiven-you’re wrong. I will still be very mad at you! And will take at least several hours to calm down.

For most people with ADHD calming down can be really really difficult and especially if we are reminded of people’s guilt over and over again.

(Such as Elizabeth hearing Thomas fuck his wife).

Forgiveness? Leaning towards him for kiss? 

He chosen her over us and we wish to never see his ugly face ever again! 

Apropriate reaction for Elizabeth being dragged by Thomas to be alone with him, would be to step on his foot, apologize for your ‘mistake and how you didn’t want to hurt him’ and then leave with smug. 

Not leaning to kiss him!

But maybe I am only petty person with ADHD. 

Scenes where Elizabeth retreats to nature to calm her nerves-brilliant. But her being calm as soon as Thomas Seymour opens his mouth or upon seeing him-you’ve got to be kidding! Not realistic at all.

Many people say her having crush or consider match with him at 13/14 him is unrealistic. Around that age lots of bethrohals were already decided and after Henry VIII’s death Elizabeth might have wondered about her future. 

She might have wondered if her brother and council will get her married to secure alliances-that is realistic. But she’d 100% not think she had choice, that she had a say and that she could choose herself. She’d expect that somebody else would pick for her! 

The crush is possible, but I doubt she could have crush on both Dudley and Seymour at same time. Especially Thomas over Dudley? WTF?

True, there were marriages in those days with big age differences, and even nowadays they are and some young woman prefer to have mature man from older generation. Old school gentleman.

So could she wish for marriage with him? Or think of it as possibility. Yes, that is plausible.

But falling for his charms? Episode 4 gave no room for wandering.

She thought she could be pregnant-they had sex. Multiple times.

And it is so unrealistic!  Especially since Elizabeth might have been ADHD and with history of women around her. You think Kat Ashley would know what happened to Catherine Howard and would sit still while Thomas Seymour was grooming her charge? Just two scoldings-and otherwise she doesn’t exist?!

Elizabeth’s own reaction is also pure fiction.

ADHD people are not always strong personalities, we are full of insecurities true-but we are also very strongly opinioned and we don’t diverge from our views easily. Sometimes our views can be twisted(as for example Henry VIII’s idea of justice-you’re with me or against me), but in priciple our personality doesn’t really change since times we turned 10. Maybe not even since we turned 7. Our values are set in stone, and you better bring powerdrill to try to break them. 

Ok, sometimes peer pressure, family pressure works. To diverge from them slightly. Not trow them away completely!

You’re telling me this girl being hammered all her life to this point about importance of chastity just threw it off? She gave in to the temptation? A royal daughter who knew two women in her life had their head chopped off?WTF?!

Not all girls are willing to become whores and throw their morals way. Not every pretty young teen is willing to misbehave, to be unchaste, to sleep with any dude which comes her way and pays her bit of attention.

The Becoming Elizabeth’s view upon Elizabeth’s moral is so fucking misogenic, it hurts. 

Just as well they could portray it as him clicking his finger and her bending over, pulling her skirt up. Just as bad.

Also, I am not sure if you noticed the bits of conversations and glances between Mary and Thomas Seymour. It almost looked like they were trying to imply he seduced Mary before Elizabeth. 

(I was having thought in 3rd episode-how Starz so far ruined(made immoral) every woman on main cast that was in White Princess, Spanish princess, and I was wondering how come Mary was spared-apparently she wasn’t, it’s just bit hidden.)

Imo there were several ways to portray Thomas Seymour and Elizabeth’s relationship and not make audience livid:

1)Nothing happens-both stay decent, nobody tries anything

2)He is creep and wants to molest her(or more) and Kat Ashley stops him when he sneaks to Elizabeth’s bed one morning(she watches Elizabeth as hawk) and begs Catherine Parr to sent Elizabeth away(anywhere). Catherine eventually agrees, but Elizabeth is traumatized by that point.

3)He is creep and Elizabeth herself is bold enough to tell him off, and when his behaviour doesn’t stop, she herself tells Catherine that Thomas behaviour is not ok, and could lead to rumours etc. Elizabeth is bit shaken, but ok.

4)He is creep, wants to molest her and more, and it is Catherine Parr who stops him from raping the poor girl and who puts herself between her ward and her husband. She sents Elizabeth away behind his back and is mortified whom she married.

5)He is creep and Catherine Parr and Kat Ashley fail to protect Elizabeth. He rapes her and only then Elizabeth is sent away. 

All of those would be more acceptable than Elizabeth willingly falling for him.

My personal favourite would be number 2 or 3. Or combination of those two. 

Because it’d show both vulnerability of young girl, when being in household where this creep is in charge(as husband of Catherine Parr he’d be in charge of her household) and at the same time Elizabeth holding upon her principles. Her fighting him off-that was what we all wanted to see. For her to be the lioness, showing her claws when he crossed the mark. Kat Ashley being fiercelly protective. 

Or Kat Ashley could have a male servant guard corridor beside Elizabeth’s door at night(while she asleeps), not liking Seymour’s gaze upon Elizabeth. Somebody she deeply trusted and knew for many years. Why male? So that he’d be strong enough to stop Seymour if it was need. Probably male servant with strong morals-who would not hesitate to break the door Seymour latched(locked), and would stand up to Seymour and not be put off by Seymour’s threads but would stand his ground allowing Elizabeth to escape.(And Elizabeth would want to escape!)

If they thought their portrayal showed well enough how much wrong that relationship was, they were wrong. On contrary. She was way too into it, for us to truly sympathize with her. Or to not think showrunners were idiots.

Thomas Seymour’s unwanted attention would be very unpleasant experience for Elizabeth. It’s likely she’d not know how to cope with it-at first. But it is equally likely that Seymour would not be making his move immediately.

It’d take while. Imo, she’d do her best to avoid him and if not possible to be in presence of somebody she trusted all the time. Like Kat Ashley, with whom she’d share her fears. 

Hell I think all teens would react that way-if they realised the person was creep.

Could they not realise? Sadly not all victims do, until it is too late. Those creeps can bind their time and be eloquent and fun and nice until they get their victims alone. And afterwards they will tell their victim some bullshit words to convince their victim-that victim was actually at fault and was asking for it, she wanted it.

Which is essentially what this tv show did with Elizabeth! She leans towards him for kiss first. They basically put the blame on her. She doesn’t give any real signal of being unwilling. At all.

I don’t blame the actors, I blame director and script writer for this. 

Actors are good actors. They cannot be expected to keep tract of overall tone that relationship would have in the final cut. That is not their job. 

The show runners failed to portray him as proper creep and her as victim. 

And for that I’d give them whole 3 points down for accuracy(on scale 1-10). 

1 for Elizabeth’s unrealistic reactions to Seymour and her unrealistic expectations regarding her possible marriage. 

1 for failure to portray T. Seymour as actual creep, unrealistic luring stage, etc.

(That line-’I’d never do anything you’d not want’ would be much better fit for luring stage, not for time when he has hand on her thigh already.)

And 1 for portrayal of Kat Ashley and Catherine Parr not being really that bothered by Seymour’s nor Elizabeth’s behaviour. One time scolding of Elizabeth by Ashley, and her once scolding Seymour was not enough! One time Parr telling her husband to stop flirting with Elizabeth-realising he was flirting!- in very weak tone. (I tell my cat to get off my notebook in much harsher way!)

It was not ok for these two women to be potrayed this way-realising he was behaving inapropriately-and not watching their charge, not protecting her. 

It’s stupid! 

And by the way another 1 point for that 1st conversation between Pedro and Mary. Concept of Mary bonding with Pedro over her mother arriving to England from Spain with some black people-not bad idea at all. 

But implying Mary had black lady named Catalina in her household- 1 full point taken down. Catalina de Cardones is fictional character! Catalina of Motril was a slave! Probably later freed and given money to return to Spain by Catherine of Aragon, and dead by the time Great Matter occured. She was not in Spain. Even Lina in Spanish Princess left. 

No excuses for this mishap. This is repeated mistake by Starz and I am not having it. We criticized them for it before! 

Just as we criticized them about not screwing up the main character’s character(Spanish Princess’ Catherine fo Aragon).

Good that they got better costumes(than in Spanish Princess-but they are still 1530s), checked some facts and some timelines and got plenty of nice tidbits. But when your main character willingly faces ruin and is immoral-how do you expect us to like her? How do you expect us to sympathize with her?

She slashes throat of deer-but can’t kick Thomas into balls? Bold, strong girl and yet innocent victim? How the hell do you explain this paradox?

They make real life victim into villing participant and I don’t know about you, but I won’t forget it nor forgive it. So in part 2 I will rip appart the costume and take back my statement, they look great. They do-if this was set in 1520s or 1530s. Which it is not.

There is a school in the Philippines that is made entirely of recycled pop bottles. It took about 9,000 bottles and dozens of volunteers to build the structure. Each bottle was filled with sand, water, and straw to keep them sturdy. Then they used a material like cement to stack the bottles

In a remote area of Colombia, kids have to go to school on a zip-line. It turns out the steel wires are the only way of transportation for those living in a valley called Los Pinos wich suronds the school. Very young kids aren’t allowed to use the zip-line alone and so they travel along the cabel with family members. if the kids were to walk it would take hours maybe even days

In Makoko, Lagos, Nigeria there is a school which architects have built to float. Since this school is in an area with constant flooding the best solution was to make a school that floats. This way even when the water rises the students can still travel to school. This school is also used as a shelter during bad floods.
