A few off the top of my head: Eliza, Lizzy, Beth, Lizzard, Abby, Zabeth
How many nicknames derived from Elizabeth do you know?
Fun fact: Elizabeth was one of the top names back in 1993. Also a fun fact: This 3D wire mandala toy was also very popular during that time period as well.
I make my own iterations called Lotus Blooms, and you can explore my work along with all my dozens of styles and wire colour combination options. :)

Mixed Materials in 3D. The tree was simpler to make, and I think it turned out more interesting than the tower. For the tree, I used wire, thread, and willow sticks. As I worked on it, I started to imagine creating a sculpture where the tree stands in the center of the transmission tower.
It’s not about which one is stronger; I just like this fusion, this synergy. It’s less about competition and more about coexistence between nature and technology.

Week 5 LSAD 15-16/10/2024. Brief 2 "Assemble"
Workshop Filoconstructions with Giordana
To create the final photos of my embroidery, I started looking for interesting placement ideas. Giordana suggested photographing it on a window, wall, mannequin, and a wire silhouette in the classroom (which was not my work but someone else's on photo 2).
I found that placing the embroidery on a wire weaving appealed to me the most. This sparked thoughts on how I could use wire to depict delicate, invisible energy fields in future projects.
My next step for the research is Passementerie - the oldest textile art.

Our computer cart arrived! Also oww, my thumb :(
#Also there’s two small wounds on our left arm near the elbow? I don’t know how those got there or when.#It took me an hour assembling the cart and another hour doing wire cable management.#“Moonwatcher weren’t you switching out?” I thought so too! I felt all foggy but then our cart arrived and I had to build it.#As for our records uhh… hahah heheh um… I got sidetracked okay!! I’m nearly done I promise!!#moonwatcher: text (she/they/void)

assemble project - thursday & friday wire work in the assemble it studio
Last week I started working in the assemble it studio. I set about making a wire version of a construction site barrier. Originally I had thought to make a miniature version that could stand on a table however the tutor Aisling asked why not go big?

thursday: ^^
Rolling out chicken wire and nailing it onto the wall before hanging it from the ceiling as it kept falling off.
Trying to use the drill to twist the medium wire frame was unsuccessful so I hand twisted the pieces together leaving it quite uneven.
I was okay with this as it is the nature of the materials.
Using light wire I attached the pieces together.
Then using the pliers I carefully twisted in all the chicken wire's edges from where it had been cut in order to better attach the frame while also making the piece neater and safer.
I left the piece under boards overnight to try flatten the chicken wire

friday: ^^
I started off using the copper rods as a framework for where the lined parts should go, they are perfectly straight but not a plentiful material so I opted to stick with the wire,
I measured the frame to try place the lines at an even distance
I fixed the light wire that attached the frame at a more mathematical distance with neater twists now I understand how to do so easier
First I used the light wire twisted together with the drill and trialling out different amounts to make thicker pieces
But in the end I chose the medium metal and used the drill to twist them together
I left the piece under more weight hoping to flatten it further.
Next I plan to try make the lines neater before creating the stands. I'm hoping to use rivets to make the stands so the piece can slot in securely. I also plan on making construction signs that I can attach and take off. The silhouette will make it a good piece to photograph with interesting shadows and lighting. So I hope to move it around a photograph it in different locations as a barrier.

The tools I've used so far. It's my first time using a drill in a creative sense so using these tools for artwork has been an exciting learning process. I found working with wire a very methodical process.

who here has read ducks by kate beaton. if you have read ducks you should come talk to me about ducks and if you have not read ducks you should read ducks
#just reread ducks by kate beaton#genuine masterpiece so carefully done so beautifully assembled physically yanked the tears out of my body#also i am really growing to believe that no piece of literature will ever make me cry unless it made me laugh first#like without humor theres no connection to the human#its just empty melodrama#and books dont often make me cry thats just not how im wired#but when they do they are often very funny. patricia lockwood and hilary mantel are both very good at this i think#also obviously kate beaton#everyone go read ducks STAT

UnitedHealthcare, the largest health insurance company in the US, is allegedly using a deeply flawed AI algorithm to override doctors' judgments and wrongfully deny critical health coverage to elderly patients. This has resulted in patients being kicked out of rehabilitation programs and care facilities far too early, forcing them to drain their life savings to obtain needed care that should be covered under their government-funded Medicare Advantage Plan.
It's not just flawed, it's flawed in UnitedHealthcare's favor.
That's not a flaw... that's fraud.
#they did it to muddy the waters of legality. they kniw they can claim it was an ~honest mistake~ because ~a machine did it not a human~#same reason why self driving cars have been cautioned against without having the legal platform figured out#like for the cars case... in the event of an accident involving 2 self-driving cars... who is at fault?#the insurance will want to know...#is it the drivers who took the risk knowing the slight chance of error whicu would require human intervention?#is it the car manufacturers who assembled a vehicle with faulty sensors or wiring?#is it the car company itself for tricking consumers into thinking the vehicles were safer than they really are?#we can't take a computer to court to hold accountable. that's why they set it to task to commit insurance fraud.#who will they try to point fingers at? the engineers and programmers who made it? the doctors who should magically know how to override?#the patients for not appealing the decision/bringing it to their attentions?#im not saying those folks are at fault im saying that's what i anticipate this company will say to poke holes in the prosecutor argument

What is the Difference Between a Wire Harness and a Wiring Harness?
When it comes to electrical systems, terms like Wire Harness, Wiring Harness, and Cable Harness are often used interchangeably. However, there are key differences that set them apart.
At Popular Systems, we specialize in manufacturing high-quality wire harnesses, automotive wire connectors, and cable harness solutions to meet diverse industry needs. Let's break it down:
Wire Harness vs. Wiring Harness
A Wire Harness is a simple arrangement of wires, bundled together to transmit electrical power or signals. It keeps wiring organized but offers limited protection.
A Wiring Harness, on the other hand, is a more complex assembly. It includes not just wires but also connectors, terminals, and protective sheathing, making it ideal for high-performance applications like automotive and industrial equipment.
What About Cable Harnesses?
A Cable Harness is designed for more robust applications. It consists of multiple wires or cables enclosed within a single protective sheath, offering enhanced durability in extreme conditions.
Why Choose Popular Systems?
At Popular Systems, we provide customized wire and cable harness solutions for automotive, aerospace, and industrial applications. Our automotive wire connectors ensure seamless power distribution and signal transmission, keeping vehicles and machines running smoothly.
If you have any questions or need a tailored solution, feel free to reach out!

Throughout the Assemble project, I worked with wire about four or five times, and I realized it’s not a medium I enjoy. The tactile experience of bending, twisting, and shaping wire was unpleasant for me. Using pliers, cutters, and other tools required too much effort and felt uncomfortable. Even the final outcome didn’t feel satisfying, it looked incomplete, more like a prototype or a framework (a mesh) rather than a finished piece. The transparency and gaps in the structure didn’t align with the type of work I enjoy creating.

However, I do see the value of wirework in developing spatial thinking and engineering skills. It’s a great tool for visualizing and planning 3D concepts, which can be helpful for complex projects. For my Transmission Tower sculpture, I used wire to represent order and artificiality. While the concept itself appealed to me, the finished piece felt too bare and uninspiring. I decided to deconstruct the sculpture and reimagine the ceramic insulator elements I had made earlier. These pieces were chaotic and experimental, glazed in various ways, and I ended up connecting them into a new sculpture using wire.

This final piece turned into something I loved. It resembled an abstract object and embodied both chaos and connection, aligning perfectly with my project’s concept. Although wirework isn’t my favorite medium, this process taught me how to rework and rethink ideas to create something meaningful.

Week 6 LSAD 25/10/2024. Brief 2 "Assemble"
Friday lab Wire and Shadow play with Elaine.
For me, “assemble” means capturing the essence of a meadow with all the plants, grasses, and subtle movements I’ve noticed, disassemble them and create a new vision. Today I continue to work with the wire, I really enjoy this material. Playing with light and shadows is gorgeous.
Elaine showed something absolutely new for me today. Glue stick gun drawing on the paper and plastic surfaces. I just started to work with it.
