Kingdom AU
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Title: Kingdom AU
Setting: Stormkeeper kingdom version universe. Pulsor and Aurals magic kingdoms are at war. Sensors are the nomadic people with no country. Hybrid mages are stigmatazid for being traitors to their origins and not belonging anywhere. There are 4 magic types: Aurals requiring positive emotions, Pulsor requiring no emotion, Shadow requiring negative emotion and Sensor requiring mind connection to elements of water, air or light
Concept:
5th Magic X Tears of Iron crossover in Stormkeeper universe
Kyler is the Pulsor king leading an imperial war against Aurals. Acacia is the Aural princess who learned Sensor magic, posing as Sensor ambassador to get to Kyler. Skye is the Sensor scienstis posing as Acacia's maid. Zephyr is Pulsor hybrid mage with Aural and Sensor magic who comes as Skye's bodyguard, but ends up sneaking to he Kyler's bodyguard. Wes is Kyler's younger brother, a Pulsor who would be better off being an Aural. Kieran is a Shadow hybrid mage who infiltrates Shadow terrorists in Pulsor kingdom. Hal is the Sensor leader. Kane is the Shadow leader. Xander is Aural king and Acacia's older brother.
No scene, but have a list of what it includes:
Facts:
Court intrigues. Politics. Magic kingdoms at war. Stopping a war by assisinating a king.
'Everyone is hiding something, but smiling about it' vibes.
Magic is mindest and culture. You change your mind, your magic goes.
Hybrid mages are terrible, cause they can use more magic at once. Jealousy and fear lead to a prejudice under the "they are traitors of their people" ideology.
Pulsors value fighting. Aurals value art and fun. Sensors value science, travelling and studying. Shadows value giving in to your impulses.
Magic isn't born, but chosen. Doesn't fit the nationalistic views though, so everyone pretends you have to choose what you were born into
Getting along with differences. Tolerance of different opinions.
Imperialism and nationalism is terrible nonsense and here is why.
Pulsors also went the "dictatorship for the greater good" way. Censoring opinions, deciding what is good and bad, nothing belongs to anybody cause equality, if you don't agree with us you are killing people, we don't need privacy cause transparency, we don't need freedom cause safety, everybody will think the same cause conformity rules
Characters:
Kyler is the stoic idealistic king with imperial aspirations with a very closed minded opinion about who counts as a person
Wes is very much not compatible with the Pulsor no emotion requirement. He is bursting with emotions. This makes his life as the prince and king's brother very difficult
Acacia is an Aural through and through. Bold, unapologetic, fleshy, self-indulgent. Open-minded and intellectual though, she falls in love with Sensor discussion and mind based magic and becomes a hybrid mage. Big scandal with potential to change the stigma if it comes over right
Skye is very sceptical about this whole ruse plan and the arrogant Aural princess's ability to play her part. Skye doesn't think Acacia understands the delicacies of Sensor magic at all.
Acacia also thinks Skye's scientific shy uptight attitude could use some work. Not to mention Skye taught Acacia and is her superior in Sensor magic, which makes Skye's role of being her subordinate straining to say the least.
Zephyr is Zephyr. Open-minded, tolerant, curious and caring, he was born a Pulsor, grew up as Aural, learned Sensor magic...he meets someone and learns his magic attitude doesn't fit this world at all.
Zephyr is Skye's bodygaurd. Comes with her for the inflitration. They are supposed to kill Kyler but he ends up saving him from a hit from Shadows and finds himself being Kyler's bodyguard instead. Being Zephyr, he takes it upon himself to open this cold imperial king's eyes to the beauty of differences and tolerance (and the nonsense of your country being only great if it gets bigger).
Leander was born an Aural, learned Pulsor magic when he met Zephyr as a child and found it fascinating. He is Acacia's bodyguard, which is why he could recommend Zephyr for the mission.
Kyler and Wes have a fractured cold bond as brothers vs Zephyr and Leander have a healthy steady partnership bond going on
Acacia will teach Skye some confidence. Skye will teach her some manners. They are great fuels for each other
Kyler might not get killed, if Zephyr has any say in this. This is a fairytale where wars are stopped, people change and everyone gets along in the end.
Kieran infiltrating Shadows, cause against the general opinion, Shadow magic can be pretty cool & doesn't mean you are doomed
This was long time coming. Put historical shows, rereading Stormkeeper posts and an AU format together and you got a main trio X main trio crossover from two wips 😂🙈.
I'm going to tag @thewalkingnerdx you gotta see this🙈
@bloodlessheirbyjacques see, I had a kingdoms phase too. Also meet Acacia, Kye and Wes a bit more

For the wip title ask game - my wip is called Stormkeeper and the main characters are Kyler, Acacia and Wes. Super curious what you would say it's about
Stormkeeper
The weather is always perfect in the Kingdom by the Sea...depending on who you ask. Powerful wizards called stormkeepers control the sky, working day and night to shape the wind and tides. They ensure the kingdom’s ships are clear to cast off and that enough rain falls for the crops. To the kingdom’s citizens, they’re heroes. And Kyler is here to take them down.
An enemy kingdom’s spy, Kyler’s goal is to infiltrate the stormkeepers’ guild and bring their secrets back to his king. But the stormkeepers are selective, and he’ll need to beat the other aspiring wizards to earn a coveted positions. His biggest competition? Acacia and Wes, a sibling pair from a poor fishing family. Their magic is strong, and they’re not afraid to fight dirty if it means a chance at a lucrative job.
As the three wizards rise in the ranks, they discover they have more in common than they originally thought. Kyler’s never had real friends before. Will he be able to betray them when the time comes to return to his king?

And here we are, fully coloured Rosemary Honeysuckle from the previous WIP (featuring: too many sparkles again)! Finally decided on what I wanted her body shape and face to look like and I’m pretty proud with how the hair turned out! :D And introducing a friend of hers and a new Aurin of mine: Rita Starbloom, who also is one of my first ever OCs to have a face-claim! I don’t even like face-claims, but with this one, I dunno, after seeing Dita Von Teese, I was super inspired to make a character based on her complexion! I don’t think I got it super right, but next time I bet I’ll improve! More headcanons and trivia bits about these two below if interested! :D
- Rosemary is currently a pediatrician working in Thayd, her job sometimes forcing her to travel to far away villages and Exile camps to help families in need. - Rosemary was born in the year 1639 AE (30 years old) to a single mother whose partner, Rosemary’s biological father, was a hunter that died from a predator attack. It wasn’t until the Exiles had arrived two years later that Viri Honeysuckle (Rosemary’s mother) would soon fall in love with a human medic, Nathan Stormkeep. - Rosemary wasn’t there at the Ravaging of Arboria; after Viri and Nathan had married, she was taken to join the other exiles in space with her new family before it happened.
- Rosemary and Rita met on one of the exile ships and remained dear friends since childhood. It was both their idea to go to the newly discovered planet Nexus when they had heard news of it to pursue their careers. - Back when Rosemary was an aspiring pediatrician-in-training, she used to sing part-time at a vintage-themed Jazz club with her old friend Rita. One day a talent agent happened to stop by while they both performed a duet and was captivated by their performance. After the show he offered the both of them a contract to work for a big production company.
- Rosemary declined while Rita took her chance at fame; Rosemary doesn’t keep in contact as much, but she’s heard great news of Rita doing well for herself as a well-known singer and performer.
-A few hobbies Rosemary has include: baking, writing Jesse Payne fanfiction, singing and binge watching medical dramas while commenting on the medical inaccuracies.

Writing bucketlist tag game
Rules: list wips you would like to finish in your lifetime and optionally reasons what's holding you off them and how far you want to get them (publish/post etc)
The 5th Magic - Passion project about sentient magic with 5 different ways to access it, culture divided by them, an ongoing war and enemies to lovers changing that dynamic while meeting a God that wants to be human. Holding off cause writing from a brainwashed character's pov in 1st person is unpleasant, but the story doesn't work without his pov
Stormkeeper - so many versions of plot with this thing, but basically two brothers in from high class family in magic solving their differences and the stoic one allowing himself to fall in love with a girl that loves to break established systems. If I just found the right plot and setting to show these arcs.
Rivers of stars - A self-indulgent hurt/comfort urban fantasy story focused on found family, aftermath and healing of three mages and one shy but passionate magic art professor. With a bit of dystopia beginning in their time as systematic installation of fear and propaganda leads to a fall of democracy, which I'm still studying and researching the exact steps of.
The myth of demon hearts - a high fantasy wip with demons and vampires mixed with elves and rangers. Just doing a proper DnD like high fantasy setting with epic stakes would be great while twisting some of the expectations.
General things I would like to write:
High fantasy
Modern urban fantasy with magic as normal part of the world
Dystopian fantasy
Secret mage society fantasy
Space fantasy
Magical school
Teleporting bookshop
Writer caught in her own apocalyptic magical world
Characters coming out of the story
Plot involving travelling through many dimensions and times
Modern fantasy with werecreature society
Sentient magic
Blood magic
Mind control magic
Vampires and demons in a DnD like setting mixed with elves and rangers
Dream magic
Feeling magical currents leading to zoning out too much
A post-apocalyptic road trip and reasons to live for in a devastated world
Slice of life magical realism
Dragons
Werewolves
Gods
Animals turned humans
Hideout filled with found family
A rebellion
A princess, general, seer and bodyguard story
Space knights story
Tagging anyone who wants to play, I would love to see the answers but to kick it off: @thewalkingnerdx @kosmosian-quills @cirianne @sleepyowlwrites @nectargrapes @ren-c-leyn @druidx @ink-flavored @ettawritesnstudies @hannahs-creations @diphthongsfordays @missbrunettebarbie-writer

Magic explanation
Wip intro
Levels
1st level is for children and the untrained.
2nd level is already basic training and control.
3rd level is professional level for jobs.
4th level is a serious level for high positions. Two 4th level mages can take down small armies.
5th level is the highest both from capacity and skill standpoint.
Theory
You can't reach it with magic that absolutely doesn't suit you, that's why Acacia doesn't have in her born magic type, but Xander and Kyler do - signs they have their most fitting type. Wes struggles to get to the 4th level in Pulsor magic because it's just that difficult when it doesn't suit you.
Magic is mindset. It's what you believe, how you think, what you value and what methods and goals you feel are right. It's the what and the how and the why for how you live. You change your mind and beliefs and the same magic type won't work for you.
On the other side if you can reprogram your mindset, learn to think certain way on command and on purpose, you can use more than one magic. That's what Hybrid mages can do and that's why there is such a stigma going on against them - because most people don't understand how you can distance yourself from what you the principles and ways you were born and taught in, that you can just make yourself focus on other things and switch your magic for something else.
Types
Each magic type requires certain mindset, emotions and focus.
Aural magic focuses on positive emotions - you can't use it if you are feeling down, that's why their culture resolves around art, dancing, sports, competition and self-centered postivity. Confidence, good mood, creativity and expression of feelings are vital for Aurals. The trick is not to dwell on negative emotions or get over them quickly with music, jokes and parties. The process needs to be enjoyable otherwise there is no point.
Pulsor magic depends on the body - it has to be in great condition, from reflexes to muscles to stamina and you have to have absolute command over it. That's why they train martial arts and work out. Magic comes from goal, body and focus, when you don't feel or think about anything else than the purpose in front of you. Nothing else exists in that moment. Their lifestyle reflects this as well, from early mornings, values of hard honest work and polished skill. The process has to be difficult for the result to be excellent.
Sensor magic focuses on the mind. They meditate, discuss, analyse things, do mind exercises and read and write. Their ideal state isn't positive or negative, it's harmony within yourself and nature. They are the only type that stretches out their mind to nature. Once they have chosen an element, they image themselves being part of it, dive into it in their thoughts and resonate with it to guide it to their will. They only borrow, don't enforce, don't change the element of water, air or light. It's the only magic type that doesn't generate their own magic from the inside and that way their reach and stamina isn't limited by their own body's capacity, only by their imagination and tranquil focus of the mind. Then again the smaller the amount of the element available, the harder it is to resonate and control it. What do you control when the sun goes down? When there is no river around, just humidity in the air? When the air is still and windless? The process is just as important as the result.
Shadow magic are the opposite of Aurals, because they channel their negative emotions. Anger, fear, hate, grief and pain are the most common and strongest. Their aura is dark, comes also with dark markings spreading on the body they can use as runes coded with meaning - they can capture or freeze someone to a place or make them feel what they feel. Shadows respond to them in a similar way as elements respond to Sensors, because shadows are what they associate their feelings with. Something hidden, cold, black, shameful and overwhelming. They are at the highest risk to get lost if they obsess over their magic channel. The process doesn't matter as long as there are results.

Character inspired by
Kyler - Sasuke (Naruto) + Elijah (TO) + Abe (Big Windup) + Levi (AoT) + Kogami (Psycho Pass) + Yumei (Red Winter)
Wes - Anakin (Star Wars) + Jim Kirk + Naruto + Kise (Knk) + Shiro (Red Winter) + Joe (Megalo Box) + Mikey (Tokyo revengers)
Xander - Aleksander (Rei Kirah trilogy) + Bakugou (Bnha)
Hector - Sing (Banana fish)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Darren - Aomine (Knk) + Zoro (One piece) + Hak (AnY) + Guts + Archer (Fate/Stay Night)
Elias - Asahi (Free) + Misaki (K)
Levi - Draken (Tokyo Revengers)
I take all my favourite stories kinda with me, inspiring different aspects of the story casts. Appearance and feel orient themselves on the inspo characters, personalities, backstories, arcs, relationships and roles are original, making up a new character.
Combined characters often have share somehting similar that's crucial to the OC and helps me nail it down or broadens it in unexpected ways.
Only two OCs are inspired by only one character XD which is usually someone I'm surprised became my fave, but made a lasting impression. Otherwise I have pretty steady types.
Does anyone put their OCs together from other fictional characters? Feel free to make it a tag game and tag me

Quick picrew for current version of the story
This cute picrew has awesome hair options
Kyler before the story and after (he goes through the wringer there)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Wes and youngest brother Hector
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Acacia ofc + new character Xander
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I am also playing with the option that the story will be set in a high fantasy setting (see the clothes). Making Pulsors rule the whole kingdom, with Kyler as the crown prince, Wes as the second troublemaker prince and Hector the youngest prince. Xander is the crown prince of neigbour kingdom of Aural mages at war with Pulsors. Acacia would be an independent travelling magical who won't let something as boarder stop her from reading all books there are.
Trio of brothers of Kyler, Wes and Hector
Hector is actually the mediator between the two oldest brothers, being both playful and mature at the same time
Royal family and power struggles
Magic types as cultures and different systems
Enemies to friends with intense hostility between Kyler and Xander
Acacia doing her own thing, travelling from one kingdom to another, boarders and wars ain't stopping her. Kinda always ends up making friends along the way
Kyler gets kidnapped as part of the main plot instead of backstory, his kidnapping and torture at Shadowcrafter hands taking their tool
But cool characters like Kane and Grayson are part of them so yay for angst and grey characters
Adding a dolphin Shifter Zephyr cause dolphins need representation for real. The sea situation is horrible and I want to give its exploitation a voice
Irene is staying as the leader of the Shifting mages living in the mountains, cause no mage is gonna tell them what and how to use magic, thank you very much. If you don't like it, try to catch them first
Darren is staying, probably as Xander's bodyguard
Phantoms are staying cause magic backlash + bigger common enemy for these warring mage princes
Wes is still a dragon Shifter who doesn't fit in anywhere
The colours in the pics are actually super significant about alliances and similar personalities
Acacia and Kyler are ideological enemies first and foremost. She opens his eyes to lots of issues of ruling such a diverse kingdom of so many different magics and ways of thinking
What she learns from him might actually save her from going insane
Kyler and Wes still have issues about responsibility and control. Kyler is a protective mother hen and Wes wants to be himself in a very unaccepting and traditional Pulsor community...everyone means well but it's complicated
Wes gotta learn how to take care of himself and support others when they are hurt. Kyler's gonna have to let himself get helped in the first place
Kyler and Xander represent to each other what the other hates. Kyler is all perfectionism and discipline and Xander is walking indulgent impertinence

Hello! I have perhaps a dumb question, but I'm going to ask it anyway! How are The 5th Magic, Stormkeeper, and Summer Storms connected? Are they a trilogy? Sorry if the answer is staring me in the face and I'm just...missing it, lol.
Also take this as an open invitation to just go off and ramble about anything about them, because I am deeply curious! The magic system fascinates me!! Pulsers, Aurals, different levels, it's really cool!!
Hello and haha no worries, makes sense it looks confusing😁.
They are pretty much all separate stories with the same characters. I always start with characters and I have had Acacia, Kyler and Wes for a while with some other regulars swapping here and there. It's like AUs for the characters all the time, except these three wips are large enough as projects, with snippets and finished outlines and lots of notes they could make their own books.
5th Magic was the first one and almost a year long fascination. Acacia there started as a confident rebel leader, Kyler as her enemy from the rival army and Wes as a ghostly god fascinated by humans and developing his own human form. I have immensely enjoyed writing their dynamic and change from enemies to friends as Kye and Acacia got to know each other, but I had trouble with the beginning and with writing Kyler's pov before his change.😂 There were actually 4 magic types here with a 5th one that combined the knowledge of all of them (hence the name), and gave Acacia an awesome advantage with unforeseen costs. This one also spanned the most characters, the concept of the main villain's clones as an army and a brutal tournament between them to choose the successor.
Stormkeeper has been around for a long time too and has gone through numerous versions from high fantasy with kingdoms to urban fantasy from university tournaments to supernatural agencies until school gangs. The curious thing about these changes was that no matter the setting, the character arcs and core plot points stayed pretty much the same, just the details and side characters mixed and changed. Acacia was more of a hermit in these versions, alone and wanting to be, while Wes has become a younger brother to Kyler with very rare and powerful magic that put a target on his back for other magicians. Another prominent element with Stormkeeper were the Phantoms, magical manifestations of negative emotions that hunted the mages and needed to be fought and the theme of the three various magics needing to be combined at the final to defeat them for good. Kyler and Acacia were also not open enemies, but more of colleagues working together with clashing mindsets and believes that expanded their horizons.
Summer Storms is the newest addition, that starts from a bit different concept. In a way it feels like a sequel to the others, because instead of the slow burn development of enemies to lovers between Kyler and Acacia, their relationship is established here from the beginning with the history of them hating each other. Wes here left them after an argument and Kyler not being able to accept the different magic he choose for himself. His return back and estrangement play a big role in the story. A big addition here is the character of Jonah, a recycled old version from a character from way back of my wip Where the worlds cross, who with his willpower, determination and relaxed self-aware cheerfulness makes a good foil to the overthinking and passive Acacia and Kyler's cold pride and Wes's immaturity and spoiler sheltered selfishness. This version also doesn't span whole countries and kingdoms and concentrates on the core characters the most, with emphasis on healing and hurt/comfort scenes. The magic here is also sentient, with the magic types Pulsor, Aural and Sensor being ways how to communicate and access it.
I'm glad you like the magic system!😁 I love playing with it, making up whole value systems and cultures behind them, with the different levels and costs and now even personality for the sentient magic in Summer storms. I also like it enough to mostly have carried it over in all versions, since it's too cool to pass up.😁
Thanks for the question and the opportunity to ramble 😂 one always finds some new things in talking over writing projects.

Wip Introduction
Tumblr media
TITLE: The Stormkeeper
GENRE: fantasy, romance, new adult, psychological
POV: 1st
SETTING: Magic is the expression of the soul. There are three main magic types: the Pulsor Technique tames lightning with discipline of the body, Aural Art displays positive emotions as a coulourful aura and Sensors resonate with air, water and light with their minds.
Magical power can be combined in harmonious resonance that increases with the strength of bonds between the users. Hybrid mages, practicing more magic types at once, are very unusual and disliked, since switching from one magic type to another is considered a betrayal of character. Shadow mages are a forbidden unknow magic, considered the opposite of Aural Art based on negative emotions, characteristic for dark aura, shadows and black markings on the body.
THEMES: getting along with differences | being true to oneself | understanding vs acceptance | present moment | perfectionalism | healing | looking for purpose
FEATURING: various magic types as cultures | estranged brothers | lots of hurt/comfort | philosophical discussions | angst | mutual pinning | enemies to friends | ragtag bunch of misfits | perils of being the best | torn between worlds | introspective | character-driven
PLOT: Acacia wants nothing more than finally put a stop to the Aural-Pulsor war going nowhere for decades. While an Aural mage at heart, she found passion for the scientific approaches of the neutral nomadic tribe of Sensor mages, making her one of the most powerful hybrid mages to exist - and perfect to pose as Sensor ambassador to infiltrate the Pulsor kingdom. But getting to know her enemies from the other sides reveals they might just have very good reasons for their strict military discipline, supressed emotions and violent magic.
Between attacks of people starved for power, thieves that use the forbidden Shadow magic, she finds her match in the haughty but practical crown prince Kyler, who happens to be the general of the most elite Pulsor army. His influence is the key to peace, but can she convince him of the abstract value of science, art and imagination? Or are their worlds just too different to ever get along?
CHARACTERS:
Kyler Silverstone | Pulsor magic 5th level | crown prince of Pulsor kingdom | cold, disciplined, thoughtful | black hair, dark blue eyes, tall, always a black suit or coat
Acacia Arden | Born Aural 4th level Hybrid Sensor 5th level | analytical, imaginative, withdrawn | wavy blond hair, grey eyes
Wes Silverstone | Pulsor magic 3rd level | second prince of Pulsor kingdom | cheerful, rebellious, cunning | wild curly light hair, green eyes
Xander Ruby | Aural 5th level | king of Aural kingdom | rude, teasing, charismatic | long dark red hair, brown eyes
Irene Kenner | Light Sensor 4th level | independent, daring, protective | dark brown hair, green-brown eyes, petite and muscular
Darren Reyes | Aural mage 4th level | laid-back, arrogant, competitive | short black hair, brown eyes, towering high

Hello, hello, and happy storyteller saturday! I hope you're having a good one.
So, I was wondering about something. What are your favorite kinds of characters to write? Why are they your favorite? And do you have a favorite charracter of that type you'd like to ramble about? ^^
Hmm that is an interesting question, because characters and my moods for stories change a lot according to what I'm currently thinking about and want to explore in my writing. So it depends what phase you catch me in XD. But if look for tendencies or certain types of characters that show up in my writing a lot...
I had a huge phase for stoic characters. People who just care so much they have to consciously hold themselves back, who believe that to be kind, you have to be strickt with yourself and others even and especially when it's hard. Kyler was a giant emobodemnet of this fascination - he was the OC that carried 5th Magic, my biggest wip to date, and many AU versions like Stormkeeper and Summer Storms.
Another one was having a cheerful charming character to balance the grim cold distant Kye. This was created mainly for the dynamic, cause my OCs seem to always come in groups XD and I love watching them play off each other. Wes took that role with Kyler, either as a fun loving spirit wanting to be human, or a god reincarnation in the human body as Kyler's younger brother or friend. What made Wes fascinating was the contrast with his childish happy friendliness and his ruthless cunning side that he didn't like to show people, but that made him way cruler and darker than the stoic but always generous Kyler was. These traits came together because they influenced each other - Kyler learned to be cold to protect himself from overwhelming feelings and to be good influence instead of spoiling people with false niceties, and Wes developed his charming persona to hide those cruler parts. These two have been centres of my stories for about 3 years. XD
Rivers of stars was the first wip that was mildly inspired by Kye but no longer carried the dynamic or the core of his character. Alistair is someone who is cold and distant, but he is also charming and flexible, often changing according to whom he is talking with - and he struggles with feeling like he isn't honest, like his good intents are wrapped in false unclean methods - but he can't help it, it's how he works best, being like a chameleon with people, giving them what they want at that moment. His main struggle was also that he was very neglectful of himself, feeling like he doesn't deserve to be in pain or tired, which is a very likeable flaw? Like it's a serious problem, but one that people tend to overlook or ignore, or even admire and support. Go, tear yourself to pieces for others with selflessness, that's what's the right thing for everyone to do! His arc is very much finding friend that don't support this at all and that make him realize he has to step up for himself, that he is human and vulnerable to and there is nothing wrong with that.
Rivers of Stars and Sky of Shards have been the first wips after a long while where I developed completely new characters, that's why I'm rumbling about them. XD. They aren't just version of Kyler and Wes in different universes, they are complelty new characters. Tbh I'm still developing them and my bond with them - I don't have such a passionate and intense fascination with them yet as I had with Kye, Wes and Acacia so I worry about that, but I also hope it's a matter of time.
Zephyr for example embodies a completely new set of characteristics I'm looking forward to writing. He is the kind of person to be always cheerful, friendly, positive, taking each day one moment after another. He can find something good about every situation and struggle he is in, and that makes him a very powerful force. And a great balance to the dreamy stuck in her head Skye who doesn't know how to connect to the external world and her senses at times anymore. But Zephyr is also impulsive, there is no long term planning possible with him, always on the move and restless. He is actually very sensitive, taking conflict hard, which is why he became so good at playing everything off, because not being carefree would be way too painful.
And in contrast to that there is Vincent, selfless medic who wants to help people, but is also very haughty, judgemental and drunk on his authority, wanting to decide people's fates. So while his motives are more noble than Zephyr's, the way he loses himself and becomes misguided and cold towards people as a result are far less pleasant. Maybe that's also a goal vs way clash, what you are willing to do for your aims vs what you want to live like and what that makes you into.
So yeah, that's something I def want to explore, what fuels people to be carefree and positve, how can you do that when you are an emotive person (isn't that more anger related? Or does it depend on your viewpoint?) What is the cost of that approach?
What also comes up often in my writing are impassive characters that don't know where to find motivation for anything. I scrapped similar ideas before, but Knox from Sky of Shards allows me to zoom on this struggle.
As for female characters, as there always is one in the cast and mostly the viewpoint character too, they is the most distinct, according to what approach I'm analyzing. Acacia was a strong confident leader and figher, Solace was a quiet but stubborn and passionate art teacher and Skye is shy on the outside but actually quite arrogant and bitter on the inside about her social research and abilities. What they all share is the struggle to be more present in whatever situation and life phase they are in. That's a very common theme in my writing :D.
Thanks for the ask, making me ponder about patterns in my OCs and reminisce about my wips.^^

Sortinghatchats tag
I have seen this game by @starry-sky-stuff (thanks for introducing me to sortinghatchats, I have fallen in love with it!)
Rules: Say what your sorting is, list your favourite characters and their sortings, and maybe explain if there's any correlation.
My sorting is Lion Bird
Sasuke Uchiha (Naruto) Lion Lion
Anakin Skywalker (Star Wars) Snake Lion
Zuko (Atla) Badger Lion
Elijah Mikaelson (The Originals) Snake Badger
Yumei (Red Winter trilogy) Snake Lion
Holland (Darker shade of magic) Badger Badger
Joe (Megalo Box) Lion Lion
Aomine (Kuroko no basket) Burned Snake Lion
Sun (Princess Mononoke) Badger Lion
Hayley (The Originals) Lion Lion
Lion Primary: 3
Bird Primary: 0
Badger Primary: 3
Snake Primary: 4
Lion Secondary: 8
Bird Secondary: 0
Badger Secondary: 2
Snake Secondary: 0
Turns out I have a thing for Lion Secondaries, the opposite of my Secondary but mirroring my Primary XD. I’m just fascinated by Lion Secondary ways because they speak to me as a Primary but I would never be brave enough like them. I stick to plans and knowledge collection, always too careful. I would love to have that Lion Secondary confidence and resolution.
Snake Primary is a big one, a loyalist opposite to my idealism. I just feel for these characters, the need to protect and care only for your loved ones first is so understandable and pure. But I have a thing for admiring Badger Primaries for their “for people” and community values.
For comparision sorting of my OCs from Stormkeeper:
Acacia: Lion Bird
Kyler: Badger Bird
Wes: Snake Lion
Xander: Lion Lion
Kane: Lion Snake
So an MC to identify with, a love interest with the noble community values, a selfishly loving rebellious brother in Wes, a clearcut Lion Lion with charismatic qualities and a idealistic playful Snake in antagonist Kane. Lots of Lions per my taste XD, Badger for admiration and a total peculiarity in the antag.
Leaving the tag open since I don’t know who knows the Sortinghat system! Feel free to tag me, I find this fascinating.

Okay let's dive deeper into this
Tumblr media
There were so many decisions to make with this commission, making me feel part of the art piece. From the order, the positions, the clothes and expressions, everything here is deeply representative of the story.
Tumblr media
The Silverstone brothers. The older Kyler known for his orderly withdrawn nature. Always proper and perfect in his signature long coat. Pulsor magic is brittle and destructive, lighting pulses are very dangerous and require absolute discipline and control over one's body, responses and feelings. They come from the body itself so any mistake, any blink of careless emotion causes burns along the veins, pain and scars that don't fade.
What this particular picture is hinting at is also the Shadow poisoning Kyler is suffering under - it's not really a secret since it will be revealed in the first few chapters, but no one else knows - Shadow Craft is very new and very loathed and distrusted, since it's the opposite of Aural magic that focuses on channeling positive emotions. Shadow Crafters channel the negative, dark impulses, hatred, jealousy, everything painful and grieving. Terroristic groups of this type are most common, cause it's easy to lose oneself in the intensity of these feelings and the magic is often used to control Phantoms, the beings of magic and negativity. Prior to the story Kyler was captured by such a group and tortured for two weeks - forcing Shadow Craft on him with no training and with his pride and horror in the help of seeking any help for it. If you look closely, there are little dark lines running down Kyler's hand and neck.
Wes's stance contrasts Kyler's - relaxed, formality forgotten, wide grin on his face and wind magic held with carefree pride. The while and black of their suites isn't a coincidence either, with Wes being open, adventurous in his green shirt and with his scales freely showing. This is the Wes the story will be working towards - one that doesn't feel ashamed or insecure about switching magics, about his form, about his passion for it, about being who he is. Kyler symbolises the conflict, Wes is the goal, the protected and the brave, the one who has still yet to face the world but believes he will win.
Tumblr media
Now Acacia. Finding the perfect dress for her was a challenge but it really worked out. She looks like a water fairy there, unearthly and dreamy. An ombre dress going from dark blue to light blue would have been characteristic of an Water Elemental - Elementals often wear colours and clothes that symbolise their power, the element that speaks to them and guides them. But Acacia is including all the colours around, adding green and yellow and the orange and red. This is tribute for Acacia being a Switcher mage, mastering both water and Aural style on high levels, something very rare and generally looked down upon. Magic is more than family, more than blood and more than life. It's the expression of the soul, the extension of the mage's will, personal by default. Switching the way you think to control a different type of magic is extremely difficult, and if you manage it how can you be trusted, not being loyal to your spirit?
Irene and Darren to the show.
Tumblr media
Irene is a wolf and a weapon, a fire mage and an outcast as the biggest kind of Shifter in town. Only smaller Shifters normally reside in big cities, since transforming is needed but should be inconspicuous to other residents. Being true to your other form of existence, giving it free reign is important part of such identity. That's why Shifters of big animals often live in the country side, with open spaces, less crowds and noise and free to turn whever they want. People got so used to it, a common belief is now that big Shifters just don't belong with the population, that they wouldn't be able to control themselves and cause trouble. Now Irene is also a weapon and a driven ambitious mage and won't let such details stop her. Her sword form is light and thin blade, like a katana held in one hand. She is very proud at who she is, both a wolf and steel, dressed in fire.
Darren Rhyes is a talented Scythe Shifer. His control and skill allows him to transform any part of his body without transforming himself whole, making him able to face opponents without needed to be wielded. A mage and weapon bond is a very special thing, with emotions and magic adjusting, resonating and amplifying each other. But Darren is a very special weapon and being wielded by someone with inferior understanding of magic or lesser drive to win is just insulting to him. He hates teamwork and partnerships and doesn't care about praxis points for the magic licence. He breathes completion, seeks challenge and loves the thrill of a good magic match. His high and power are scary on the first glance, but his mastery of Aural magic and his blades is phenomenal.
The colours also indicate the partnerships in the tournament. Kyler is Irene's wielder, the red symbolizing this connection.
The only one with suitable magic for Darren is Acacia, which is why he has the blue tie and stands with her. Winning him over to actually work with her instead if ignoring he will be a challenge. Acacia joins out of intellectual interest, Darren for the win and matches themselves. Their attitudes are very different, not to mention Darren's arrogance isn't a good match with Acacia's shyness.
Wes is a sword shifter of Aural kind, and can't resonate with Pulsors either. His sword form is however very heavy and big, reflective of his raw magic power, which is hard to wield for someone like Acacia, with only basic training and magic focused on mind and imagination instead of physical enhancement.
