I'll watch the second season World of Winx, just because i like the idea of the - googles plural of Nemesis - Nemeses. I also wanna think about how i could use them in my rewrite.

My sister just started rewatching one of those old serials we used to watch ages ago, namely Class of the Titans, and now that I'm incredibly deep into greek mythology and pjo, it's hitting way harder than it did in 2007

I finished watching WorldOfWinx season 1 now, and I have to say apart from whitewashing Flora it's pretty decent.

Maybe it's because the last season of Winx I watched was season 7. And I mean in comparison to season 7 even the third movie looks good (ouch, it hurts saying that). But I think WOW is really good actually.

I absolutely do enjoy watching it. The story is interesting, Ace is funny af (WOWWOWWOWWOWWOW) and the characters feel like those we knew from the earlier seasons again. Layla is such a boss queen, and I love her driving skills. She and Stella slay, and also Tecna, my beautiful girl! I wished Musa had more screen time but she's flawless too. (Don't talk about Flora* and Bloom here lol).

It's also refreshing to have entirely new villains with different motifs. The art style is so pretty too. I'm so in love with Bloom's civilian outfit. And their fight suits are cool too (not sure but I kinda got the feeling they change into them magically because sometimes there is just not enough time to change clothes that fast, haha) And omg Dreamix! Best transformation song ever! The Whoooohooooo is so epic. Love it. Hope it stays great. The songs are aww chef's kiss *v* ALL OF THEM

Long post ahead!

So if a fairy's pallet changes, it most commonly happens around enchantix because of how inherently traumatic the concept of self sacrifice is.

Flora's colors would dull a little, nothing major but the pinks would look more "aged" as a mental reference to the black willow's time affiliation.

Musa's also are not a huge change, mostly a slight darkening as a symptom of the pain she went through when her wings were shattered (also might be a reflection of the darcy/stormy dynamic and how musa relates to both of them in different ways but she's not ready to unpack that teehee)

Tecna's is a more dramatic change due to the prolonged survival state she had to be in while trapped on Omega. She used her transformation to survive until she was able to scavenge parts to build a warming suit for herself which meant she drained her magic every transformation (via exploring and setting up a safe camp warmth bubble). Every transformation ended up lighter and lighter as a camouflage against the ice-snakes and the thawed prisoners. This would be a more permanent color change, probably only darkening a little as she healed, especially because tecna doesn't base her identity in being a fairy so it wouldn't cause her additional stress.

Stella's colors would mostly shift after earning Onyrix. Stella had the most negative reaction to her nemesis out of all the winx and the episode continued to effect her for several weeks after it was done. However, due to this episode, she did gain a much more balanced look at her sense of self worth, acknowledging that she has bad days and needs to treat herself with compassion instead of catastrophizing. In a way Stella's colors changed not because of trauma but because of growth.

Oh girliepop. Aisha's color change is a pure grief reaction to Nabu's death. It's not a permanent change, because Aisha would come to associate the darkened color with feeling shitty and the longer it stayed dark the more upset she would be (she had a few ups and downs color-wise along this timeline, its not strictly linear). It also wasn't a thing that happened to "her" like, Nabu dying was definitely traumatic, and similar to daphne who had grief involved in her color change, but daphne also underwent torture and other losses of autonomy that left lasting physical symptoms, which is why her color change was permanent.

Bloom has a few changes (because of course she does). Dark bloom dimmed her colors in season 2/3

Bloom's incomplete enchantix highly saturated her colors, and her complete enchantix settled into a slightly more blue tinged set which is permanent.

not so much an actual color change as an affliction, but I thought it would be fun to include. Fairies in core fatigue have scattered, shifting colors and design elements that bleed into each other.

Here’s my very delayed World of Winx Season 2 review

Ok so it’s been like a few weeks since I watched it so I won’t have too many complaints, I’ll just list the major ones I have.

Firstly the episodes were super boring and felt dragged out. In season 1 the side plot of finding the talents was entertaining and honestly I miss the WoW show as it was fun and Ace despite being a dick, was neat. Now there’s this Neverland bullshit which makes even less sense with Captain Hook’s mega forehead and Peter Pan actually growing up, or implied to. And the Evil Queen being Tinkerbelle feels wrong especially with the romance with Matt (Peter Pan’s son)

Now, the Nemesis. Most of them were disappointing and the worst offender was Bloom’s. I didn’t vibe with the clown aesthetic. Despite being the worst one at least her creation made sense, with the shadows stealing part of her magic to corrupt. The other Nemesis just…spawn. Otherwise Virus and Banshee were my favorites and Eclipsa was alright. I liked Stella’s backstory but it contradicts things like them being on Earth for a few months. Sinka also felt she should have come before Matt’s character growth. Speaking of Matt…

I was expecting to absolutely hate him but no Sky is still the worst by a long shot. Matt is very annoying with his “I’m know more than you” attitude when he a LOSER, but at least everyone hates him for it until he gets turned to stone. Other than that I enjoyed his character and how he’s incorporated into the Winx group like when they disguise as art enthusiasts. He’s also one of the only non-villain dudes in the series to use magic, yay! However, the fact he suddenly gets better at sword fighting by acquiring a fairy blade despite pro warrior Tiger Lily saying he sucks ass at it is just plot convenient, I instead prefer his deception and acting skills which do come back when he deceives the mermaids. Another is I wish Matt got involved in Hook’s defeat, like some on. He made a great point about trusting Hook and Hook’s the one who sent Smee to kidnap him.

The Winx are alright eh, I mean, I wasn’t invested in any of them and they don’t have any story going on, they just stole Anabelle’s dream of being performers and this hot lady named Venomya hates them, and omg just bring Ace back please. The WoW show was fun as Bloom had arguments with Ace but now she and the others have near nothing as Venomya isn’t important until the very end. Onyrix isn’t really better than Dreamix, I can’t decide which one’s worse, but yeah they get it out of nowhere, at least let the Forest Spirit gift it to them it have them earn Onyrix after defeating their Nemesis smh. I’m also not sure what Onyrix does like…what’s the point?

Anyway let’s get to the villains now, starting with Jim and Smee. He’s on the Winx’s side but for the majority of the plot he’s not involved in anything, just tells Smee to kidnap Matt twice and that’s about it. He could have done like Valtor where he directly involves himself but nooooo, forget the Switzerland stuff, he’ll not do anything until the end. Smee is also a terrible comedic relief. However, I love Smee. The fact he was painted as the villain by Hook despite following his orders and was ultimately the one to take Jim down and save Neverland, MUAH, perfect. Onto not perfect, Tinkerbelle. So her whole motive was Peter Pan liked Wendy instead of her and now she mad I guess, then she falls in love with Matt and suddenly she’s…good..now? I mean, yeah that’s, Winx should just stick to one-dimensional villains. Not to mention her youtuber ass “I have made a severe and continuous lapse in judgement” ass apology, like I like that she acknowledges she treated the Neverland people horribly but don’t add “please forgive me” at the end it really shows her priorities. Another villain I like is Shaman. He’s the Shaman! He sounds like if Jack Black stuffed himself with brownies and got sleepy! Him being by Tinkerbelle’s side after she got weakened and even trying to save her and talking some sense in Tiger Lily made me wish he ended with Tinkerbelle instead of Matt.

And yeah the fact Tinkerbelle ends up with Matt, aka Peter Pan’s son, when her whole motive for being evil is Peter Pan didn’t love her………need I saw more? It’s just wrong. She should make out with the Shaman.

Anyway onto some other characters. I loved the zombie pirates in their spotlight episode but they went back to being evil kinda and don’t correct their mistake like Tiger Lily, so rip I enjoyed them a lot, and I miss the wizards. The sirens were annoying as FUCK. I only like their human designs augh. Alligator man was eh alright? He looks more like a crocodile and Crocodile man looks like an alligator. I wish they’d talk even if it was a Knut impression, it’d make their significance more meaningful.

And lastly, the plot twist in the final episode where Venomya’s a witch, Baba Yaga and got an old ashy granny design. God, the whiplash I got, I was so upset because the best part, aka her design, was not just an illusion Mrs Baba Yaga used. Bruuuh 😭. The idea of Witches being rivals with fairies is interesting but eh I don’t think we’re getting a season 3 anytime soon so yeah. Maybe they’d have introduced the Trix so maybe that was a bullet we dodged? The Trix are so overused. Anyways the ending was alright but that cliffhanger and Venomya being a granny ruined it.

That’s all I have to say. I’m getting a wicked headache and I’ll see you guys on the flipside.

Meteor Shower (Part 5)

The streets of Magix are agitatingly crowded today. Icy stuffs her hands into her pockets and sulks her way over to the Witch's Cauldron cafe. She takes one look through the window and scoffs. How could she have forgotten; it is a weekend and they have scheduled their Melancholy Melodies Karaoke Day for today. 

She is in no mood to hear dreadful covers ruin perfectly good music. She has had enough terrible music for one day, that is for certain. And so, giving the nearest rock a good kick, she carries on down the sidewalk. Off to her left she hears the rock collide with either a sign pole or a lamppost, she doesn’t turn to check to see which. 

She keeps walking until she finds an ice cream parlor that isn’t overcrowded. She orders herself one scoop of mint chocolate chip, one scoop of fruit yogurt, and one scoop of dark chocolate. Yes, that will do just fine to take her through a trying day. She finds herself a seat and manages to make it halfway through one scoop before she is met with an encounter that is surely going to require at least one more scoop of ice cream.

“Well fancy seeing you here, bestie!” Bloom greets. “How’s my favorite, dastardly arch nemesis doing?”

A scoop of  vanilla ice cream that she will pour a bit Galliano over, at this rate. Icy massages her temples. “If you call me ‘bestie’ one more time, I swear…” She jabs her spoon into the dark chocolate scoop.

“Ooo, what flavors do you have?”

“Well let’s see, there are three; none of, your, and business.”

“Oh! ‘Your’ is my favorite flavor. I don’t care for ‘business though, it tastes kind of plain. Like if ice cream was made of water.”

Oh yes��this conversation is definitely going to warrant at least one more scoop of ice cream and perhaps a little more than just a touch of Galliano. “What do you want, Peters?”

Bloom shrugs. “Just going for a little stroll. “Trying to find people who can fill in for us since The Specialists couldn’t make it to this tour.” 

Icy rolls her eyes. “Apparently it’s trendy for openers to drop out at the last minute these days.” She realizes much too late that she had done her grumbling out loud. A mistake that she regrets very swiftly.

“Oh you’re also looking for an opening act.” Bloom says. “Maybe…”

Icy sniffs. “As if. The Trix aren’t an opening act. We’re the headliner.”

“I was thinking of more of a duo headline type of tour. Think about it!” She wiggles her fingers, a starburst for extra pizzazz. “A fairy band with a witch band, it almost never happens.”

“Well yes, because when it does happen it is almost always a disaster. Nobody wants to try it because…”

“Because everyone is afraid to take risks.”

“Because every decade has had exactly one witch-fairy collaboration that completely flopped. I’ve taken enough risks for one tour season and have no intention of joining the ranks of those who’ve embarrassed themselves out of the industry.”

“Yeah okay but consider this; this one can pay off! We’re currently the two biggest bands in Magix. Plus we’ll have intrigue on our side, people will want to know how a witch and fairy collaboration will go. And both of our bands will get twice as many audience members. The Winx might even acquire some witch fans and The Trix might acquire some fairy…”

“Do you think that I want glittery little faeries listening to my music? We don’t need little faeries flouncing about our night clubs wearing eye-burning colors with their uppity, dancy attitudes or worse, posers who think that they’re goth because they listened to our music once at a concert that they only attended because…”

“Are you really going to gatekeep your music in a time like this!?”

“I’ll gatekeep my music whether it’s to my advantage or disadvantage.” Icy folds her arms across her chest. “Unlike some of my bandmates, I’d rather put this band in a pretty little coffin and bury it six feet deep than let it become another generic radio band.” She pauses. “Our fashion, our scene, our aesthetics—what’s the point in any of it if it gets watered down by the same industries that produce…” she gestures to the various magazine covers in shop windows, the ones that have the same pretty pale models with button noses and big bright eyes, the pretty tans and the smooth skin, the long legs and perfectly slim hourglass figures. They all look the same, they all apply their makeup the same way. She gestures to the billboards and posters featuring bands who all sound the same, copy and pasted with some subtle subversion–maybe a slightly different pitch or a slightly faster tempo. “There’s no originality, it’s all perfectly arranged to be as palpable and easy to sell as possible. If we let just anyone into our clubs then our lifestyle will become just another trend, a silly fad that is milked by capitalist corporations for until there’s nothing left of what it once was.”

“Well aren’t you edgy, pretentious, and intellectual?” Bloom shoots her that goofy, lopsided grin.

“Ugg, whatever. You just don’t…”

“Understand you? Nobody knows what it’s like to be a big, scary witch!?”

Icy rolls her eyes. “I was going to say that you don’t understand the intricacies of the goth lifestyle and the importance of individuality. Your band is the embodiment of easily marketable music with no depth or…”

And now the fairy is cackling. The clutching her sides, loud with a snort sort of laugh. “We write our own material, you know. Just because it’s perky and fun, doesn’t mean that it lacks passion.” She argues. “We like to write songs that can be danced to. Life is hard enough, right? Maybe we want to write music that can make people smile and learn to have fun again.”

“Great, you can continue to make your generic pop music for fun and I’ll keep writing my depressing, scary music with depth. Our worlds can’t and shouldn’t intersect.”

Bloom hisses. 

“What?”

“Sorry, it’s just that I just got cut on all of that edge.” There’s that ridiculous grin again. “Anyways, I’ll see you guys tomorrow.”

“Do your friends even know that you’ve decided to try to recruit me!?” Being taken so far aback puts a touch of shrillness to her demand. But the fairy keeps on walking. Walking as though she hadn’t just posed the most preposterous proposal. Icy groans to herself and jabs her spoon into the mint chocolate chip scoop.

She has grown withdrawn and maybe that is what Valtor had wanted. It makes things easier for him. Kyanite attends MeTor practice and leaves. Diamond tries to speak with her but she can’t get it out of her head; “There’s nothing to be jealous of! You only got that part because Nebula is proud of you for finally losing weight. It’s like a reward for achieving something that the rest of us already have!” 

Her stomach flutters and her throat tightens. Diamond is speaking, something about not meaning what she said the other day, but Kyanite only hears that very comment. The one that has been in her head all day. The one that she keeps in her mind when breakfast looks particularly good.

Diamond is all smiles and compliments now. 

She has always been that way. Has always made carless and  cutting comments just to pretend like it hadn’t happened later.

“Sure, Diamond.” She says quietly. She doesn’t even know what she is agreeing with but Diamond looks pleased. 

“Great, I’m glad that we can move on from this. I was really, really worried that you would hate me forever.” 

Kyanite swallows hard. “I couldn’t do that.” But she sure wishes that she could. It would make things so much easier if she could hate Diamond.

Diamond who gives her back a pat. Kyanite flinches but Diamond doesn’t notice. “Let’s have a great practice. I think that your new role will start to feel more natural the more that you run through it. Chalcedony mentioned that I shouldn’t be angry with you because you didn’t even want to be the lead dancer in that video. And that you were actually pretty uncomfortable…”

“But would you be angry with me if I did want that part?”

This brings her babbles to a halt. “I…no? I don’t think so.” She frowns and her brows furrow. “I think that…” She sighs. “You were right, Kya. I was jealous.  I…I’ve always wanted my own solo project, that was my dream. And you never wanted the attention. And I kept asking myself, ‘why her, why does she get my dream?’ It isn’t fair.” She pauses. “I guess that that sounds pretty bad too doesn’t it?”

“Yeah.” Kyanite agrees.“It kind of does.” 

Diamond cringes. True to her blunt nature, she carries on anyhow. “I thought for sure that Valtor would choose me. He approached me first, you know?”

Kyanite furrows her brows.

“Yeah, he saw my photoshoot for the Shining Night album and he said that I would be the perfect face of his new project. A cold, glimmering star. A cutting, frigid beauty with a wicked edge that could really capture attention.” She sighs. “And then he saw you.”

“Yeah.” Kyanite replies. What else is she to say? 

“You’re really lucky, Kya. And, I think that what makes me so mad…upset? Frustrated? Is that you don’t even seem to appreciate everything Valtor is giving you.”

She has no idea that Valtor likes to take as he gives. 

A popularity and fame for freedom; she can no longer do her hair the way that she likes, can no longer partake in her ‘embarrassing’ hobbies or enjoy her ‘bizzare’ interests.

A flattering dress for delight; if she smiles the wrong way she is ruining her image. If she is too cheerful then she is acting too much like the old, shy and forgettable her.

A great body for comfort; who cares if her stomach aches, if she gets dizzy now and then. She looks great. Who cares if it is becoming a habit, “it is for the best anyways.”

A #1 hit single for a soul; sometimes she feels hollow. Like she is vacant inside, just a vessel for an industry that is keen on eating girls like her alive—milking them for all they’re worth and then discarding them when they find someone prettier and more talented.

Perhaps if she knew what it was like to be Valtor’s star, she wouldn’t envy it so much.

Kyanite wishes she could go back. 

She wishes that he would have chosen Diamond instead. 

What a horrid thing to wish upon her own friend.
