Doom Prompt 25: Past [3]
A Prompt from my Doom Discord, Based on the Garnets Story kinda but once more in the past of Argent D'nur. Pre-Divinity Machine shenanigans so Doomguy/Slayer is still able to talk (though I see him still being pretty quiet)
Have a Doomdad foster dad with a charge he was giving by the Sentinels, same one as last prompt, and a hatchling Wintherin. Viola!
.
25: “John experiences Viola with zoomies for the first time”
This garden space was different from others the outlander had seen so far. Having been exploring everywhere with his foster daughter wanted to see and was aloud. As much as both were learning their new home, as Bi’jay was learning possible hiding spots for when A’li would get scared.
There was a shifting on his back, and a worried chirp from the hatchling Viola. The little wintherin clung tightly to Bi’jay’s jacket, her climbing claws rounded and sanded carefully. Not cut down too much so she could climb and hold onto fabrics without tearing clothes, or the skin under it. Bi’jay was pretty sure Viola would not be able to do more than lightly scratch him, but how she and A’li would cuddle up with Sage at night. He didn’t want to risk it.
Bi’jay was just thankful both the child and hatchling were good for bathtimes now. That first time Viola saw A’li getting a bath and attention all to herself… and tried to jump in. The result had been a lot of chaos that needed Haco to help clean up the mass of water and bubbles and give needed reassurances.
Sage looked like she had never been more disappointed in all of them.
The man reached up to cup his free hand against Viola’s head, neck and rubbed fingers on her back. He was being pulled by the smaller Argenta child down the new walking path. Sage was paddling along behind them and yawning in the early morning air. Bi’jay did not mind the mountain chilled air with the thick shirt he needed to wear. Though it had to be a good example to wear a jacket so A’li would stay bundled up, and Viola could hide under the back of the jacket to stay warm as well. The big wolf seemed even happier about the cooler air than anyone.
“The grass is so tall…” A’li marveled as they paused beside a semi fenced area, looking back as Bi’jay crouched on his heels beside her. “What is it?”
“Looks like breakfast, or bread.” Bi’jay noted, and grinned at the confused look he got. Reaching out the man carefully bent the top of a plant that was seeding. Showing the girl before shaking the stem a bit, letting a few seeds fall into his palm. “It’s grain, I bet. That makes the oats… steamed grain we have in the morning. And the grain can be turned into flour to make bread.”
Only these grains were about as big as a fingertip to him, instead of smaller like his past world. First world. More like little nuts.
A’li picked one up, recognizing the seed now and nibbled carefully on it, but she was allowed to eat them raw in their home. Bi’jay was offering a nut like seed to Viola to grasp in her little forepaws to chew on as well. Then popped another in his own mouth, it reminded him of… pistachios.
There was another chirp from his shoulder, and Viola, finally getting comfortable with the open space of the walking path, was wiggling out of Bi’jay’s jacket. He looked up and smiled, seeing the nut-like seed was gone. “Oh, you’re braving the outside?”
“Come on Viola!” the girl called gently, smiling as she reached up to give the hatchling a pet on the shoulder. Then pulled back, Viola looked disappointed and climbed down her person’s arm.
Bi’jay smiled and lowered the hatchling to the ground. Letting Viola sniff the sandy path and licked it. Only to make a face and flail a bit as she found out what sand was for the first time. Tiny splutters keeping the hatchling busy as Bi’jay laughed and stood up after making sure the sand was not cold. “You’re okay, pretty flower.”
Viola looked up, tongue sticking out, she made an alarmed sound that her person was standing up without her. The hatchling meeped and tried to bounce over, but slipped in the sand. Bi’jay came back and warm hands got Viola back up to her feet, yet he pulled away and did not let her climb up his arms again!
How dare!
…wait come back dad.
“...Sscreep?” Viola stumbled, worried as she was trying to go after her person.
“Come on little flower,” Bi’jay said, stooped but backing up, “You’ll have better traction out here, instead of the stone floors.”
“Skeee!” Viola demanded, high stepping on the sand path, not sure if she liked this new texture.
A’li giggled as she kept pace with her foster father, “Come on Viola! You’ll like it out here!”
Sage slowly walked over behind the hatchling with no sound. She glanced at her person, and then the wolf touched her nose to the back and base of Viol’s tail. Startling the hatchling to squawk and jump then run forward normally instead of high steps. The winthern hatchling ran past the two peoples, and slid to a stop on the path.
There was a pause before her wings popped open in excitement at the run. Viola bounced and turned in place, seeing the wolf, but then flapped little wings as A’li laughed. This was a good thing? Running here? One could almost see how the hatchling realized there was room to run, no walls to run into!
Bi’jay laughed, not holding it in as he watched Viola charge at A’li, and the girl jumped away. Running ahead for a few paces before spinning around and landing with a thud that semi startled Viola. The hatching squeaking as she ran from her argenta sister, not in fear but excitement of being chased.
Bi’jay bent to scoop up the hatchling, holding her up to press his cheek against her neck. Then swing her up high and back down, holding Viola in a way to support and let her wings flap as he lowered her back to the ground. Little legs swimming in the air as if she was going to run the instant she was on the ground. The kicking picking up as Sage ran past to bound ahead and get A’li running with her.
The man let the hatchling go, seeing her stumble and then fling her wings up and launch into a run after. As much wanting to run with her new odd family as well as not wanting to be left behind. Bi’jay stretched his legs out in bigger strides to keep up. Happy to scoop up a child or a hatchling that came back to him for a cuddle before more play. Even lifting Sage into his arms with a grunt but the happy puppy like whine and tail wiggles were worth it to hug. The outlander put first his wolf over a stone fence to a park area, then the other two.
Short grass was just the best new thing to Viola next.
Off the path, the group could keep playing here Bi’jay was sure, let the sudden energy work through everyone. The flop afterwards should be gloriously boneless, and everyone would be hungry by late morning Bi’jay knew. He was just fine with that, hoping so because that meant hatchling and child would both likely nap in the afternoon. A’li might get back on her sleeping schedule again.
But first… Bi’jay grabbed Viola before her pale self fell in a mud puddle, accidentally starting a keepaway game for the hatchling to keep trying to dive into puddles.

Reminder that the DOOM universe has dragons, and that the Slayer himself had one in the upcoming Dark Ages game.
Samur most likely knows how to interact with and take care of dragons.
#⨀ Eighth Wonder || About&Headcanon#granted we also don't know the uh. sentience level of wintherins#but they ARE seen being used by the night sentinels as battle mounts#like. a LOT of them#also the slayer's dragon is named bababooey. you're welcome

The low poly dragon from Quake and Maledict the cringe scientist edgelord from Doom 3 had better wing membranes than both the dragons from Skyrim and the wintherins from Doom Eternal 😭
#MALEDICT HAS NO REASON TO HAVE THE BEST DESIGNED WINGS IN THE FRANCHISE.#I hate that stupid goofy old man

So anyway the new Doom game looks pretty neat, also I really like how it appears to be going for something a bit more "classic", like the third-person wintherin-riding sequence near the end of the trailer kinda has Idtech 4 vibes and the combat looks less fast and complex than Eternal.
Also the gun that grinds up severed zombie heads is cool.

Something that's recurring in most modern Doom designs is either being eyeless or having one eye.
For example, the eyeless designs:
Hellknight in 2016.
Summoner.
The Wintherin.
Eternal's Unwillings
One eyed designs:
Samuel Hayden
Mancubus in 2016
Harvester
Hell Razer (or do they fit the category above?)
Some Maykrs
Armored Baron (armor-wise)
2016's possessed zombies
Then there's those statues of Maykr/Demon/Wraith/etc related creatures you find in Sentinel related maps.
I guess even the UAC elite soldiers and other 2016 armor designs show this.
You can also bring up multiple eyes like the visor of 2016's Cybermanc maybe or the Prowler.

Starter for @reyna-the-divine
“Quite the armor you have there,” The Slayer remarks, taking in the intricate details from whatever angle he can get a glimpse of. “You have a personal armorsmith, or was this an off-the-shelf piece?”
As someone who had made and modified various pieces of his own armor, it was always a topic of interest for the large man. Even more of interest to him was that this was essentially a draconic humanoid before him, almost reminding him of his own Wintherin back on Argent D’Nur.

Doom Prompt 24: Past [2]
A Prompt from my Doom Discord (reverse prompt I think lol) Based on the Garnets Story kinda but once more in the past of Argent D'nur. Pre-Divinity Machine shenanigans so Doomguy/Slayer is still able to talk (though I see him still being pretty quiet)
Have a Doomdad foster dad? And a hatchling Wintherin
.
24: You’re Slayer getting to interact with baby wintherin in Argent D’nur
Bi’Jay settled back into his new bed, it was not overly impressive but it was the first time he had a room to himself!
The small creature on the dresser trilled, wiggling as there was a giggle.
Well.
Almost to himself.
The man looked over from where he was sitting, the thankfully closed window letting in the afternoon light. Bi’jay was just getting used to being in charge of a kiddo again, and was relieved that it was evidence that he was being trusted. The little girl was happy to play with the new addition to their odd foster family. She handled the move from that bigger fortress city to this almost comparative ‘countryside’ hatchery pretty good.
At least he was not kidnapped every evening by the big creatures living above and around the hatchery building. It just took moving and a hatching egg before he was transferred from Valen’s unit to his wife’s. Bi’Jay grinned, watching his charge as she was pounced on from the hatchling Wintherin. He still needed to reach out to brace A’li on the back, not that the newly hatched baby was extremely big right now, but the baby was mostly all awkward wing span more than body.
Failing wings with no coordination would knock his foster daughter over. Almost did if A’li did not cling to his hands. She was laughing and wiggling as the hatchling moved and clung with rounded claws. Bi’Jay grinned wide as he caught a wing gently with his other hand.
“Tickles!” the girl squealed, a positively delighted trill came from the wintherin. Echoing the child’s excitement the hatchling all but vibration in her own excitement.
“Hold on- hold- wait don’t cling!” Bi’Jay started to say as he tried to extract the two from each other. A’li was being good and holding still, not scared as the hatchling was trying to climb the girl. The man got a hand between the hatchling’s forelegs, feeling her grasp his fingers and her little tail wrapping up his forearm.
Bi’Jay lifted the hatchling, ‘bouncing’ his new charge in the air before stooping to deposit her on the floor. The wintherin hatchling paused, wings lifted in shock at being on the ground before trilling and bounding off in new, now confused excitement. Skittering under the table, then up a leg and bounce over to wiggle under the bed to explore the ‘cave.’ Sage, the big pale wolf laid down to look under the bed with a wagging tail as little forearms reached out to boop her nose.
“She’s so little!” A’li gasped, grabbing tight to a big wrist and was pulled into a hug. The girl watching the little pale chaos ball of scales, “I thought she would sleep all the time?”
“She likely will sleep a lot,” Bi’Jay noted as he made sure his charge was not scratched. While to the side the wintherin hatching was alternating baping at Sage’s nose and the big forepaws from under the bed in a forming game. “And eat a lot, she’s a baby A’li, so…she’s going to be strange for a while.”
“When is she going to get big?” the girl asked, tossing her arms around Bi’Jay’s neck after he sat down. Confident at last to demand attention when she wanted, and was rewarded with another hug.
“When you’re big I think,” Bi’jay noted, rubbing his knuckles gently on A’li’s back. “When you’re likely done studying, but it can take a while longer. That’s what the Headwoman said, and why the back of our new home has a big door for when she’s bigger but not full grown.”
He watched as A’li thought about it, Bi’Jay smiled with a relieved sigh as his foster daughter brightened up after that all sank in. “When I’m older, can we fly together Bi’Jay?”
“Why wouldn’t we?” Bi’Jay asked back, skittering his fingers down one of A’li’s sides to get her to laugh and wiggle. The man let go to let the smaller argenta child go to run away and get a dropped toy by the dresser. “We’re going to learn to fly before she gets big too. That’s why we moved to the Hatchery.”
“Does she have a name yet?” A’li asked, looking up from making sure the string and old ribbons were still attached to the stick. The simple toy her guardian made was so far super effective at entertaining both hatchling and child. It made the move here easier and positive so far.
“I was thinking… Viola.” Bi’Jay said from where he sat, watching A’li wiggle the ribbons on the ground near the bed until pale little forearms and a long neck pounced out at them. His wolf padded over to lay down beside him.
“Is that a… a english word?” A’li gasped at the strange sounding thing, looking back as the little wintherin pounced the stick. “What does it mean?”
“It is,” Bi’jay nodded, making sure that Sage had attention with the new addition to the family. “It has a few meanings. One is a flower, and I like flowers. The other is an instrument, the baby sounds like she’s singing when happy.”
“...I like that.” A’li said softly, smiling as she wiggled the ribbons again after the hatchling ran back under the bed. Sitting on her heels and grinned as the hatchling pounced back out with her little wings flapping to keep balance. “Welcome to our family Viola, I hope you get as big as uncle Haco’s wintherin.”

Classic OR 2016, you know the drill! Doomguy, ♥ - family headcanon, ♦ - quirks/hobbies headcanon, ☆ - happy headcanon!
♥ - family headcanon - Post Doom 64, and his decision to stay in Hell forever, Doomguy... can’t actually remember his family. Partially because I never really came up with any headcanons about his family, and partially because I want to avoid the whole discourse war of whether or not the photo in Eternal is actually his family, but mostly because I like it as a plot point and I think it fits the theme of him having to sacrifice everything to be the Doom Slayer, even the memory of his family. “It’s better to have loved and lost,” and all that, and when Hell realized they couldn’t break him physically, they tried to break him mentally and emotionally by making him believe he’d never loved at all,
Unfortunately for Hell, once he was kicked out into Argent D’nur, Doomguy was adopted by Valen. Then he was adopted by VEGA. And then the intern. And now he has a new family who cares about him very much :)
♦ - quirks/hobbies headcanon - tbh, i think he’d say his main hobby is killing demons? Like sure, it’s his job and his purpose, and it’s sort of a role he was forced into, but, all the suffering of himself and others aside, he actually just enjoys doing it? He gets a very deep sense of pride and gratification from it, and he finds it exciting and exhilarating. For as much as it’s something he needs to do, it’s also something he wants to do.
I think he also likes collecting comic books and action figures, but that one is pretty much canon in modern Doom.
☆ - happy headcanon - Rabbits are always his favorite, but he’s still basically a disney princess level animal lover. He was out of his mind excited when he learned that the Night Sentinels get to ride dragons, and he took to caring for Bababooey like a horse girl, and would take every opportunity he could get to be out flying with her. He couldn’t show it because he was on an Important Mission, but he was thrilled to see she was still okay when she came to get him in TAG2. He definitely hugged her at least twice in the flight from the Torch of Kings to the World Spear.
#pikspeak#ask game#i still think the inclusion of the wintherin in tag2 is ridiculous#like it has no plot value whatsoever#i think the hugo just went 'hey wouldnt it be cool if he rode a dragon?' and everyone else went 'oh absolutely lets do that'#which i mean theyre RIGHT#it IS cool#but it also just feels ridiculous. like a child coming up with increasingly wild details to a story#i know ive said that before about the whole of tag 1 and 2#but i think it especially applies to bababooey.

{ fb 1 week ago } ❝ broken hearted girl ❞ ❧ wintherine
@findingwin
