@wintefell : snow falls in the north, thick and dry, and the older queen shivers in the great hall. she is a creature of fire and blood, not built for the cold. a fact made apparent by the many furs that wrap themselves around her, layer upon layer heaped upon her frame until she is more fur than queen. still, she holds herself aloft, a queen in her own right, even if she has yet to take the iron throne.
" i am honored to be your guest at winterfell, your grace. " her voice rises just enough to carry over the chatter of northmen in the hall. from her seat, she can see them for what they are: rough and full of life. " i hope it will bring about a strong union between the north and the realm. "

self indulgent got concept.
Ned brings Jon home, Cat hates the boy, everything stays the same... until Robert Baratheon is charging through the halls of Winterfell looking for the babe, ready to butcher the poor thing where he lay helpless in his cradle.
in a matter of moments Catelyn learns three things:
The babe was never a bastard, Ned had only lied to her to protect Jon, and that she would die before she let Robert lay a finger on the babe she'd previously wished death upon.
cue Catelyn Stark snatching Jon from his cradle, holding him, protecting him, loving him as she would her own son, risking it all to keep him safe, all care for herself thrown to the wind.
like they say, what a mother's love holds no bounds, and what it makes her capable of had no limits.
#listen listen listen#I just want Catelyn to love Jon Snow and I don't care what I ahve to do to make it happen#(plus the angst is delicious)#I was rewatching old kids movies and ended up watching ice age and idk why but the mom sacrificing herself for her babe gave me ideas#I just imagine young Cat holding onto the boy she hated and wished death on for being bastard (only to find out he wasn't one) as tightly-#as she could. knowing Robert and his men were coming. knowing they would slaughter the boy in front of her. knwoing she'd wished for this-#and deciding she'd give her own life to protect him if thats what it came to.#and in my mind she jumped from the window of the nursery knowing the halls will be filled with the kings men and leave little chance for-#escape. before fleeing on injured legs to hide the babe and herself knowing Robert would be right behind her. she's in agony. but she'll-#going for the babes sake. she won't stop until her heart is dead in her chest. even if it hurts to move and breath and think he keeps going#maybe she takes a horse and flees wintefell all together. maybe she hides somewhere in/around the castle. maybe Robert catches her?#if she runs with him she'd have nothing but the clothes on her back. she'd have to feed him and keep him warm. she'd have left her own son-#behind. the potential angst and hurt/comfort as Cat misses her own son and learns to love another. feeding him and keeping him warm from-#her own body while she's injured and lost and at the will of the elements of the strange new place she now considered calling home#idk I just think it'd be an interesting concept#there's something about a mother and her child being cornered by 'wolves' (in this case a stag). this has the added spice of Cat and Jon's-#dynamic. just earlier that day she could barely look at him and now she's willing to die for him. the change happened in seconds.#that was a lot of ranting in the tags. oops. anyway...#catelyn stark#jon snow#I love putting these two in harrowing. life altering. and/or traumatic situations so they can finally just be mother and son#I live for the angsty family feels#got#game of thrones#asoiaf

I’m waking up this fine morning to do more Jon Snow posting because I’m lowkey obsessed with him, and I’m thinking about how I actually don’t want him to be the King in the North. Because I think KING OF WINTER is a much more meaningful title.
We’ve had some wonderful meta about how there’s a reversion of the Starks. The Stark kids are getting more in tune with their ancestral heritage as the story goes on. But I think Jon and Bran go even further than the rest. Both actually go way north and establish connections and relationships with groups and concepts that are historically northern. Bran will be the last greenseer and has met the CotF (a bit like the Last Hero, a northern legend). He is also the heir to Winterfell and the North; his official title is Prince of Winterfell. On the other hand, Jon is a strong warg and joins the NW, a historically northern institution; he eventually becomes it’s lord commander. He also establishes a relationship with the Wildlings (a northern ethnic group) to the extent that by ADWD, he’s the king beyond the wall in all but name. AND he’s also heir to Winterfell and the North (per the provisions of Robb’s Will).
Like ok, Jon is being positioned to have a key role in a mythical war against ice demons from the North! Again, his connections to the North and northern mythology are going crazy. Given how important this coming war is, I don’t think KiTN title does the job.
I’m thinking of the history behind the title King of Winter. So the Starks held this title for millennia but at some point decided to go by Kings in the North. I’m not too sure about when they made this change. The wiki is a little unclear. Did they always have the KiTN title as well or is that something they switched to as time went on?
My head cannon is them going by the KiTN title is actually a mistake on the Stark kings’ part. I think the first King of Winter, Bran the Builder, had a part to play in the original Long Night (maybe he was even the Last Hero). So after he built the Wall, presumably helped established the NW, and built Winterfell (the place where Winter fell!!), he installed himself as the King of Winter to assert his dominion. Then he made his house words “winter is coming” so that his descendants who would also be kings of winter would look at the house words and remember their title. It’s not just a weather forecast but a reminder, “hey kids, winter is coming so you must be prepared to defeat it as I once did!”
But then at some point, subsequent kings forgot the true meaning of the house words and their royal title. So by the time Westeros is united under Aegon I, they had switched to the much lamer Kings in the North.
But now the ice demons are back again! Can the Starks really continue to go by a title that doesn’t represent the truth of their origin? I don’t think so. They’re already going back in a sense. Robb started it after he was crowned King in the North, but I think they need to go even further back; btw Robb’s crown is the crown of the kings of winter. The remaining Starks (but more specifically Jon and Bran) have to remember that they are kings of winter. Kings who rule in the winter, kings who ruled the winter.
Given that Jon is heir to Winterfell, then he’s kinda also heir to Wintefell’s legacy. Specifically the legacy that has to do with the Long Night. It looks like a new age of heroes is upon us so Jon needs a title that actually denotes his special status. Bran too! Both of them are actually at the forefront of this fight. They’re the front line. So with their ancestor beating back winter and becoming its overlord, Bran and Jon will have to take up this new mantle and do the damn thing all over again. I don’t think it’s by mistake that both seem to have connections to the legend of the Last Hero. Bran’s are a bit stronger but we cannot discount Jon.
So we have two winter kings; one connected to spring and the other connected to summer. Both are connected to death and rebirth, and prosperity after rebirth. Both are carrying House Stark’s magical legacy in different ways that are complimentary. BTW someone needs to write something on how Jon and Bran are so deeply connected on a mythological level. Because the parallels are driving me insane!
So my point is that I hope Jon doesn’t go by the King in the North title. I much prefer King of Winter because it’s more in line with his role as a magical being; he is a magical heir. King of Winter is a magical title. Also the cool factor is just that much bigger. Imagine people saying “winter is coming” in relation to the king of winter?! And they’re saying this during an actual winter?! One that apparently decimates entire generations?!
Like Jon SNOW (!!) king of winter -> Winter is coming -> Jon Snow is a play on Jack Frost -> Jack Frost is known as Old Man Winter or the Spirit of Winter. But the difference with Jon is that he’s got that fire in him as well. He’s an entirely different beast. God I need to go sleep!! Idk what I’m saying anymore…..
TL;DR
Broke: Jon is the King in the North
Woke: Jon is the King of Winter! It’s a mythical title meant to be borne in a mythical war. Winter means death, and snow means death as well. But Jon isn’t Winter’s king because he is an agent of death. No! He is Winter’s king because is the overlord. He died, but was resurrected! He cheated death and so death has no power over him or his kingdom. Death is in subjugation to him! And because death is subjugated, then Winter must bend the knee! With Jon, it’s never about death but about rebirth!! Jon is made anew and his lands are as well! Jon is the King of Winter who brings about the spring! Praise be to our lord and savior!
#jon snow#asoiaf#bran stark#a song of ice and fire#valyrianscrolls#winterfell#king of winter#did somebody say ✨Jesus ✨#It’s me 🤭#I’m somebody 😏#I’m back on my Jon Snow is Jesus agenda#Jon Snow died for our sins#Y’all better recognize#KiTN truthers I hear you#But have you considered that it’s a lame title?#let’s try to be cool for once yeah#my stuff

matchup trade for @coffeebooksrain18
GAME OF THRONES MATCHUP
I ship you with… Brienne of Tarth — the lady knight. She is women with the rare combination of having strength, loyalty, and complexity all in one that perfectly would complement your personality. Like you, Brienne often feels like an outsider in a world that doesn’t always understand her, she is too different, too wrong for them. She’s fiercely dedicated to her principles and has a strong sense of justice, which I think is quite aligned with your own values of honesty and integrity. She would adore your honesty rather than share a sort of disdain towards it like most, as Brienne values sincerity and forthrightness. You do need not to feed judgment or being misunderstood in her presence for she may have quite a straightforward personality, but she is someone with a kind heart (which is a trait that I believe most people overlook). She will stand by you through everything — not to mention, her loyalty towards other is one that beautifully aligns with your nurturing nature. You both desire to protect what you care about and neither of you are afraid to stand in the face of judgement. She is steadfast and reliable and give you a shoulder to lean on, alway providing you emotional security.
HEADCANONS
Brienne does not fall in love easily, nor does she ever expect for someone to love her. Why would they? None ever treat her properly, so to think that someone who is willing to hold her in their arms, to wake up next to them or to wait for her, is an absurd thought. But you? You stood by her the second she met you at Wintefell, a Karstark sigil decorating a thick winter cloak. With you, she found it easy to express herself. She is a women who has built walls around her vulnerable heart, but you knew that even the strongest of walls can be teared by piece by piece when it begins to crack.
Also she remind you so much of a puppy! As someone who grew up with dogs, being around Brienne made you feel secure. With the way she smiled and spoke, the way she followed you around reminded you so much of you dog, Willow. (While you Stark cousins had direwolves, you had Willow AND Brienne, hah! Beat that).
I imagine this relationship came to be after the event of Game Of Thrones. Brienne believed Jaime would be her happy ending, but oh how wrong she had been as he trotted away in his horse to save his sister, knowing perfectly that his life could end. It had been you who woke up at the hour of the wolf to find Brienne out in the snow, tears slipping down her face. You always believed her to be the strongest, yet in this moment, she was so vulnerable and weak and it was you who saw her in that state. That is another reason why it works so well. While you and others have seen her warrior side, so few have seen the gentle women underneath all that exterior.
Ship Tropes
‘Let me show you that I love you’ (Brienne) x ‘darling, you do not need to kill others for that’ (you)
Gentle giant (Brienne) x stores all anger in shorter body (you)
She was sunshine (Brienne) x I was midnight rain (you)

challenge: @asongofgoldenfireandblackblood Write a scene of your character (in groups or with partners if you'd like as long as you get permission per usual!) either in the direct lead-up or the aftermath of the wedding, women's court, and all the related celebrations! Tell us how and when they arrived in King's Landing, what they did for The Mother's Day celebrations, a reflection of the week's events, or what your character(s) were up to once they finally concluded!! After the long days at court, all the lovely parties, alongside with celebrations for her nephew and cousin. Lord Cregan Starks and Princess Rhaenya had finally arrived back in the North. It had been some time since Rhaenya had returned, but she was back, and she felt relieved.
Knowing that she was away from the court and all the drama, she went into the bed of Cregan Stark's and let out a happy sigh with a smile. Never in her life had she felt so relaxed, feeling safer in his chambers than anything. There was some news between the two of them knowing that both of them had wanted to be married. They were going to finalize this once and for all.
That same week, the two had gotten married… in secret… an oath, only seen by the Weirwood tree to prove their love to one another. It was a private and intimate marriage and wedding. Their only witness is lord cregan’s eldest son Rickon. Rhaenya’s hands were in his, as she said her oath of love to her now husband. She looked into Cregan’s eyes, his eyes full of love and trust. She knew this was the man that she wanted to marry and spend the rest of her life with. Rhaenya had her maiden cloak on her as she kneeled in front of the tree, with her soft tone of voice speaking, “I take this man as my husband,” as she felt Cregan taking his hand. There was going a moment of silence as the two did a silence of prayer as Cregan's thumb brushed over her hand calming her down. Rhaenya knew that she was panicking in the inside. Knowing that she was hiding this all from her family. Rhaenya looked over at Cregan as he took of her maiden cloak and places a new cloak over her with the symbol of House Stark. She smiled looking up at him as she had Cregan craddle her into the castle... Though they had a small celebration together, the two of them were able to finally unite the love that they have wanted to share for some time. Though that was weeks ago... Cregan and Rhaenya had returned back to King's Landing... as it seemed had to shock everyone the Princess had arrived as now the Lady of Wintefell... And they were here to celebrate the Mother's day for the Dowager queen.

The street is busy and she’s lost.
Miserably lost, really, considering it took her ten minutes or more just to get back to where she was now. That place seemed to be the center of the town, a small courtyard with buildings on all sides, various businesses and the like. She sighs, deciding she might as well just ask the next person she sees for directions on how to get down to the university.
She’s come South to attend the prestigious King’s Landing University, but she’s come alone, for her family’s busy lives barely left time for dinner at five, let alone taking their oldest daughter out of the kingdom. Besides, she was an adult, she could do this on her own without a problem. Right?
Right.
Across the way stands a man as equally as lost.
He’s lived North his whole life, but has come South to take what he hopes to be a lucrative job at the local university. But, he’s not expected such a large, crowded area- and truth was, he’s never been great at directions. Giving or understanding. How such a large university could be so hard to find is beyond him. He sighs, a stream of curses racing through his mind as he spins back, thinking for a moment he might just ask someone for directions, but then he’s caught off guard by the sight of the young woman just a few yards away.
She’s the most beautiful woman he’s ever seen, with long red hair that falls down her back nearly to her waist, black sunglasses perched carefully atop her head. Her jeans hug her hips perfectly and her little pink tee shows off just a thin line of her well toned abdomen. And to his absolute shock, she’s walking his way. “Excuse me,” she says in a Northern accent and at this distance, Jon can see she has the loveliest blue eyes he’s ever had the privilege of looking into. “Could you happen to tell me the way to the main campus of the university?”
Suddenly, he’s quite forgotten that he doesn’t even know the way either, because he swallows, nodding. “Yes, I can,” he says without hesitation, with a sense of confidence he shouldn’t feel. “This way,” he goes on, gesturing for her to follow after him the one way he’d not yet gone. “Just moved here, I take it?” He asks as they walk, to which she nods, rosy lips grinning. “Me too, a few weeks ago.” If by weeks he meant days, then yeah, he wasn’t really lying. “I’m Jon. Jon Snow.”
“You’re from the North?” She asks, though his accent is unmistakable, quite like her own really. “I’m Sansa… Sansa Stark.” Of course, at once, he knows who she is- the daughter of the Lord of Wintefell, a man as good as King in the North, as it had been thousands of years ago. A man close knit with King Robert, serving as Hand to the King, even from a distance. “I’ve come to attend the university.”
“Small world! I’ve just gotten a job there,” he says as they walk and to his relief, he notices the signs for the university pointing in the direction they’re heading. Somehow, by the grace of the gods, he’s done it. “Here we are,” they’re approaching the main campus walkway now and he slows to a stop, pointing at the double doors just up ahead. “Maybe I’ll see you around, Sansa,” she likes the way he says her name and she smiles, brushing a lock of hair across her shoulder as she nods.
“Maybe you will,” she replies before she passes him by, stopping as she opens the door to cast one last look his way.
And then she’s gone, but certainly not forgotten.

| a starter for @adam-stark | | in the crypt of wintefell with jon |
“Bror, se hvordan de har massakreret dig. Slagteri...jeg har svigtet dig. Og jeg vil de knogler formalet til støv.“ Brother, look at how they have massacred you. Butchery...I have failed you. And I will they bones ground to dust. Owen stood in the crypt of Winterfell with his head against the chest of his brother. The one who worked the closest with him when it came time to build and grow the North. For as supportive as they were, no one understood as clearly as Jon. Jon who would guide those builders to success, Jon who would get the men to understand this was for the North. Owen struggled to make them see his goals. Struggled to show his Northman heart as many doubted him in a way they didn’t doubt Brandon or Adam. Owen straightened up and placed his hand on the side of Jon’s bruised face, his head found in a box tied to the horse.
“You will see mother and father again. They will know your face as it should be.” Owen swallows thickly. He was going to kill Hother Umber and it wasn’t going to be over quickly. He would kill him the way andals killed their traitors, dishonor him fully. Hang, draw, and quarter him until there was nothing left. “Hører du mig, bror? De vil dø. Allesammen.” Do you hear me brother? They will die, all of them
Owen looked toward the footsteps and then back to Jon. “Adam...I am sorry...I shouldn’t have let him...I should have sent someone else to lead them.”

an unsettling air falls upon all of those in wintefell after the joust, so many unsure of whether they should leave or stay. the new king invites all to stay, feast, and remain warm with the approaching winter storms. hushed whispers all but scream questions of the fate of ser lynderly.
the arrival of ser domeric lynderly from the wall does nothing to silence these whispers, rumors circulating like a wildfire unstoppable in the northern frosts.
but those frigid airs only grew stronger.
the winter storm grew, and grew, and grew, despite not being expected for weeks later. snow descends upon winterfell in true northern fashion, winter is here early indeed. within days the roads become impossible to travel, and a sad realization is the first thing to silence those incessant whispers of the joust.
nobody is going home anytime soon.
you are free to work this in as you wish, either in new threads or over the days the snow grows. basically, work it in however works best for you/your characters bc this is meant to be what binds everyone to one location for the rp, not something major that would require a change in current threads. eventually you will have to involve this in all threads, but by no means does anyone have to force it in to what they have going now. i hope this makes sense, if not ask away ! a follow up for our jouster’s fate will come eventually after some more demon plotting. happy writing !!!
also as it is december (almost) and i know this is a heavy time for many a folk, the same sort of rules apply for activity. try to post at least twice every seven days, but if at all be sure you are posting something in seven days, and not always to the same thread(s). for new characters, though, you have to be past that threshold with at least 3-4 active threads per character / not recently on activity check. if you do end up on activity check and need more time to make your posts, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the main ! this rp isn’t in the business of kicking people who want to be here, but we also can’t just have people holding roles upon roles + fcs and just not posting on them, or favoring things like ships when this is a group rp not an indie rp.
over all try to be as active as you can, message when you can’t, and try to make sure you aren’t ignoring the common curtesy rules in a rp (posting to more than the same few people, plotting with new members, clearly favoring characters/threads) so everyone here feels welcome even in this busy season !
and happy holidays to you all, i’m thankful for each and every single one of you <3

"I'm only here because of my brother Brandon." She pointed across the hall, pointing out her brother. " he's marrying Catelyn. Or will be, once things are sorted."
She'd never left Wintefell before and was rather dazzled by all the commotion and the goings on of what she perceived as a strange place.
"She's being very nice, I suppose. But Brandon said I don't have to do anything I don't want to-- well most anything." She looked back then, " have you been in a sept? " her voice dropped to a near whisper, " I don't know how those gods can see you in such a tomb."

Except the war wasn't over Lyanna, outside of Robert and the North - it's likely that no one else on the rebels side gave a shit about Lyanna.
What happened is that Aerys executed the Lord of Wintefell and his hire. He executed three of the men as well; including the only heir to house Arryn. Then he ravened the Lord of the Vale - aka the uncle of one of the men he executed - and DEMANDED that he behead his two former wards. Aka the new Lord of Winterfell and the Lord of Storms End. Jon Arryn refused, and that's when the Rebellion started. That was what the war was about. Lyanna was just Robert's battle cry.
All of this happened because of Rhaegar's actions in the Riverlands shorting before what was supposed to be Brandon Stark's wedding to Catelyn Tully.
That is why Brandon Stark with four companions rode south to King's Landing. Can we blame a brother going to the one place he could easily assume the CROWN PRINCE would be at. A man, whom he believed - by all accounts. ABDUCTED his sister?
Can we blame him for demanding justice? He thought his baby sister was in danger, and bookwise she might have been - we don't know because GRRM might never really tell us what happened. It's all fanon assumption. The show marriage was because the show runners were too lazy and too cheap to bring in Young Griff after they fucked up with the Dornish plot.
And they had to legitimize Jon somehow.
---
It's more likely that Rhaegar wasn't thinking of love at all.
By the time Aegon was born he was fully convinced it was his duty to sire the Prince That Was Promised and he believed that Aegon was that Prince. And that the dragon needed three heads, the books says as much in Dany's visions in the House of the Undying.
Viserys, was her first thought the next time she paused, but a second glance told her otherwise. The man had her brother’s hair, but he was taller, and his eyes were a dark indigo rather than lilac. “Aegon,” he said to a woman nursing a newborn babe in a great wooden bed. “What better name for a king?” “Will you make a song for him?” the woman asked. “He has a song,” the man replied. “He is the prince that was promised, and his is the song of ice and fire.” He looked up when he said it and his eyes met Dany’s, and it seemed as if he saw her standing there beyond the door. “There must be one more,” he said, though whether he was speaking to her or the woman in the bed she could not say. “The dragon has three heads.” He went to the window seat, picked up a harp, and ran his fingers lightly over its silvery strings. Sweet sadness filled the room as man and wife and babe faded like the morning mist, only the music lingering behind to speed her on her way.
At this point in the vision's scene - it's likely that Rhaegar and Elia have already been told that Elia either can't or shouldn't have more children. As Aegon's birth nearly killed her. We take it as her being barren, but given the medical knowledge at the time we can't confirm either way.
As we know the three heads of the Targaryen sigil represents Aegon i and his sister wives : Visenya and Rhaenys. The pact of Ice and Fire was an alliance between Houses Targaryen and Stark that made during the Dance, it never tied into the PTWP prophecy.
So it's my assumption is that Rhaegar is simply meshing three things together; the PTWP prophecy, the pact of Ice and Fire, and Targaryen symbolism.
Aka, he believes that his son is the PTWP, that his son's Song is tied to the Pact of Ice and Fire and that he already had two of the three heads of the Dragon. And he believes, at this point, that it is his duty to sire them. So it's a fair assumption that he is seeking to sire a Visenya (which we know, in Targaryen history, always fails with heartbreaking results.)
With this information and the likely fact that Lyanna was the Knight of the Laughing Tree; I believe these things along with the Maester's warning against impregnating Elia again, are what drove Rhaegar to doing what he did in the Riverlands before the wedding.
No one would have thought twice if Rhaegar took a mistress, no one would have blinked if he forced Eiia to take Lyanna on as a Lady in Waiting just so he could have access to her. Even if she was still slated to wed his own cousin. Sure Robert would have been pissy, the Starks would as well, but alas with him as Crown Prince - no isn't an answer he'd likely take.
But he did what he did, prompting others into action which lead to the executions of five men and the demands of others; upon which the refusal sparked a rebellion.
IMO, Rhaegar was neither the worst of men nor the best of men especially by Westorii standards; he simply was a flawed man with good intentions and a prophecy that he believed he had to help fulfill. Likely short sighted, but in a way willing to pay the price that would come out of securing the prophecy against whatever threat that was looming in the distant future. He just didn't realize how great of a price that would end up being.
Yes; the actions of other people started the war that we know as Robert's Rebellion; Rhaegar is not faultless. He did what he did; and people reacted accordingly to it. He could not have predicted the fall out, no, but he should have had enough sense to know there would have been fallout.
Just as we all know the blood of Elia and her babies are on Tywin's hands. No one has ever denied that. But Rhaegar isn't faultless here either. He left them open, and Tywin wanted his blood on the throne. However. Tywin would have never made that move otherwise. Remember, he and the Westerlands sat out until one side won.
An event from ASOIAF that I think about a lot is the r*pe and murder of Elia Martell and her children. People try to justify Rhaegar’s actions by saying that it was for prophecy. But honestly fuck prophecy. He did nothing to protect Elia and their children. He just left them to be with a minor for over a year. If Rhaegar really cared about his children and prophecy, he would’ve just knocked up a woman from the north because Rhaegar, himself, already had first men blood. I believe that there still would’ve been an event with Daenerys hatching dragons without Rhaegar trying to “fulfill prophecy”.
I also believe that Rhaegar manipulated Lyanna into the marriage. HOWEVER, why would you ever want to be the other woman? Like I get she was young, naive, and didn’t like Robert, but get over it. I knew, at 16, how wrong it is to be the other woman and how wrong it is to cheat. So honestly, I hate both Rhaegar and Lyanna.
