hey so if you are going for water mixable oils, assuming the winstor & newton series, don’t…. don’t bother with the mediums. Just get the water mixable thinner. The fast drying medium has bad flow and the linseed oil and other medium do the same thing as the thinner except dries twice as long. Don’t waste money on the mediums, just use the WMO thinner. That;s what ive learned today.

PAINTING CLASS - FIRST DAY OF CLASS - 9/25/2023

Welcome to the 2023 FALL SEMESTER

ART2500C  or ART2502C (Painting 1 and Advanced Painting Class )

An email was sent to students over the weekend with the class instructions and other information including a link to the course blog along with the class syllabus.

We will have the first class on Monday , Sept. 25 at 12:20 pm in room 5214.

On the first day , You will only need a notebook or sketchbook to take notes.

Also on the first day, all students who have not done so, will create their own portfolio blog using the Tumblr platform and they will create a Threads  handle to follow additional instructions during the semester.

This is a quick semester so students need to be mindful of time. Making a painting takes time and each assignment requires time and diligence to create a good work of art.

I will give instructions in class and students will work on their own to complete assignmnets .

Assignments will be posted on the class blog in case anyone is absent on the day instructions are given in class.

You will be able to follow guidelines as stated here.

We will review the class materials in person tomorrow , here is the most important for quick reference when you are at the store.

If you are not familiar with the term ‘still life’ please look it up in an artist’s dictionary or art book.

Inktober Day Two:

Today I drew the a-dad-rable Patton!! In comfy autumn clothes because it is 90°F here and I can't wear it myself OOF.

I am mix and matching a couple of prompt lists so I am sorry for any inconsistencies but today I used the wonderful Thomas Sanders prompt list by @an-english-artist (@sandersidesart on Instagram, go check them out!!)

I used pencil, a ballpoint pen and my Winstor and Newton ink washes. It's been a while since I've used them so this one turned out a little messy but it was fun!!!

Here is the lineart and the finished product!

Painting Class First Day - 9/26/22

Hello students, Welcome to the 2022-1 Fall Semester  

Students where sent an email over the weekend with instructions for the following course:

ART2500C  or ART2502C (Painting 1 and Advanced Painting Class ) Mon/Weds 12:20 - 3:40 pm  Blended Format  

You also received a class syllabus and a link to meet virtually via TEAMS. The virtual first class meet is scheduled for Monday 9/26/2022 at 12:20 pm.

This link was sent to your  school ID (mymdc account).    

Make sure you rsvp as soon as you receive it.

    On the first day of class, you will use the class time after our TEAMS meeting to create both a Twitter account and a Tumblr account.    

1)      In both the Tumblr and Twitter handle, use your name and include your class (ART2500C or ART2502C ) in the bio. You will read additional instructions regarding your first Tumblr post and first tweet on the class blog on Monday after our virtual meet .

For the TEAMS meeting today, make sure you accept the invite to enter the room on Monday at the start of class.

Try to be in the waiting room 10 minutes before the meeting. Once I start it is impossible for me to break out to let people into the chat.  

Try to review the class materials and write any questions you have regarding them to ask during the meeting.

This class is a blended course so we will meet remotely for the start of the semester and as the semester progresses, we will meet in person several times.  

For those students interested in remaining remotely you will follow instructions as per class blog and class TEAmS meets.
