Kara Danvers x gn!reader
Tumblr media
Summary: You and Kara have been dating for a couple of weeks and you've never been very affectionate in public, or in general. So when one night you get drunk, everyone is surprised when you can't keep your hands to yourself. Especially your girlfriend, who can't stop blushing
Warnings: alcohol intake, nothing else, just fluff
Word count: 1580

It had been a while since the Superfriends got all together, unable to find a day where everyone was free to hangout.
So, when the opportunity finally made itself present, you decided to spend the night at the alien bar.
All the gang was there, except for Kara and James who got caught up in work, but should be here soon.
"what's gotten into you?"
You raised your head from the shoulder it was leaning on to look at your best friend.
"what do you mean?" you slowly squinted your eyes, and Lena laughed at that.
"I haven't seen you drunk in years, and as soon as you drink again, you become the clingy soft friend I met in college" and to emphasize her words, she raised the hand you were holding, fingers linked together.
"Winn lost at beer pong so now he has to pay for my drinks" you explained "of course I'm taking advantage of it"
"and I'm not clingy, because I'm drunk" you clarified after a second, laying your head back on her shoulder "I always show you my love"
And if the ceo had a witty remark to make, she was stopped just in time by the brown haired man, calling your name.
"I want a rematch, you in?" it was only thanks to the alcohol in his system that he didn't notice the position you were in.
"you really think you're going to win, schott?" an uncharacteristic playful, loud voice coming out of your mouth "but if I win, again" you got up to get closer to the man "you'll pay for my drinks next time we go out too" you raised your hand, which was instantly shaken by Winn.
"deal"
While the two of you were playing, Kara and James entered the bar, finding their friends at their usual table. As soon as they reached the table, your girlfirend noticed two heads missing
"where are (Y/N) and Winn?" she asked the group, causing James to look around.
"they're playing beer pong" answered Alex, leaning slightly into Maggie's side, stealing one of her fries.
"you should be careful with (Y/N) by the way" added the police officer, an amused glint in her eyes, but she missed Kara's confused face, to scold her girlfriend for stealing her food.
"what do you mean careful?" she furrowed her eyebrows, and turned to look at Lena when the woman opened her mouth.
"they tend to be a little..different, when they're drunk" she knew she could have explained it way better, especially since she has known you longer than everyone else, but she also wanted to keep the surprise.
And Lena knew the blonde didn't have to wait for long when she saw you approaching, with a wide grin on you face.
"hi baby" you whispered with a light slur to your voice, sneaking your arms around her from behind, resting your hands on her stomach. No one was able to hear what you were saying, except for the kryptonian of course, but your actions were enough to make everyone either laugh or hang with their mouths open. "I missed you"
"uh, hi (Y/N)" James spoke up quietly, as if he didn't know if it was really you
"hi man!" you greeted, raising one hand to high five him, the ohter still laying on your girlfriend. Time was moving a lot slower for you so when James spent a second too long to reciprocate, you turned to the blonde who was carefully watching your every move.
"I'm going to get something to drink, do you want anything?" you took a step back when you felt her moving aroung in your hold, making your hands drop to your sides.
"don't you think you've had enough?" she let her gaze shift between your eyes, noting the slight emptyness in them "why don't you sit down, I'll go get something myself"
Although your steps were secure, as was your balance, Kara still didn't feel like letting you walk on your own with your hands full of liquor, especially since she has never seen you act so 'unserious', or 'different' as Lena described it. And she definitely wouldn't let you drink anything else.
"oh no don't worry, Winn's paying for my drinks" you cheerfully rebutted, not realizing she wasn't worried about the money. That made the woman look at a Winn who was just as intoxicated as you, now groaning at what you said.
"besides" you resumed talking, putting your fingers under Kara's chin so she could look at you, and you missed the way her cheecks turned a bright pink at the touch "I want to treat my girlfriend" you winked, or maybe you just tried to close your eyes, but the action was definetly intentional.
The super rapidly blinked her eyes and when she came back to her senses you were already gone, Winn on your tail.
"don't worry, they know when to stop" vocalized Lena when Kara sat down next to her.
And she tried to listen to her friend's words, to believe you did know when too much was too much, but she couldn't help the pang of worry in the pit of her stomach as her gaze went back to you and the loud conversation you were having with her coworker, while waiting for the drinks.
As Lena predicted, after the beer you just ordered, you stopped drinking completely, and even refused to play another game with Winn when he offered.
"are you sure you're alright (Y/N)?" your girlfirend whispered in your ear after a minute of you silently staring in her general direction
You slightly leaned back to able to look at her, and flashed her a sweet smile "of course I am. You're just so pretty you make it hard not to look at you" you uttered out, removing a strand of blonde hair that fell in front of her glasses.
"uh- oh, thank you" she whispered, but she wasn't sure you were able to hear her.
And if she had any braincell still working properly in her system, it stopped working when you landed a soft kiss at the corner of her mouth, her infatuated red cheeks resembling your alcohol induced ones.
The rest of the night had the same light touches from you, with your hand resting on her thigh or a kiss to her face when she said something funny or smiled sweetly;
and the same hesitation from Kara in accepting said touches, loving the attention but not knowing when was the alcohol doing the decision for you.
Then it was time to go.
"give me your car keys" the blonde softly ordered as soon as you two stepped out of the bar, stopping in front of you, careful so that you wouldn't bump into her with your slow reflexes.
"why do you need my car keys?" you asked, but still held them in the air for her to take.
"because I'm not letting you drive like this" she answered, putting them in her back pocket "come on, I'm taking you home."
"do you need my house keys too then?" you tilted your head to the side, but she shook her head.
"no I was, I was thinking you should sleep at mine, actually." she started walking to her car "in case you start feeling bad in the middle of the night"
While trying to guess why you should feel bad at your own house you felt your hand being pulled, and found Kara back by your side.
"come on, let's go home"
The car ride was silent, the kryptonian did try to make conversation, but a couple of failed attempts later she focused on your breathing, noticing you fell asleep, probabaly as soon as she started driving.
Once she parked her car and turned the engine off, Kara tapped on your shoulder a couple of times, whispering your name.
You let out a little sound, and raised your head from the window "mh?"
She couldn't stop the smile that formed on her lips, leaning in to lay a kiss in between your eyes. "we're here" she whispered, never taking her eyes off yours.
When you entered her apartment she closed the door behind her, putting her bag on the nearby couch. As she raised her arms to take off her jacket you stopped her, grabbing the beige material yourself.
She let her hair down from the ponytail it tied was in, and feeling hands on her waist she turned around, automatically putting hers on your shoulders.
"what's going on with you?" she laughed lightly, and started running a hand through your hair when you crouched down to lay your head in the crook of her neck.
"I'm drunk" as if the reporter didn't know already "and I'm tired. Lena was right"
"yea I can see it" she didn't know what you meant when you mentioned the brunette, but she let it go "you've been stuck to me all night"
You raised your head, the grip you had on her shirt now faltering. "was it too much?" you could feel yourself sobering up a bit
"oh no (Y/N) it was okay" she took your face in her hands, her cheeks red at the memory "I was just surprised"
She laughed at the sound of relief you let out, hiding your head back on her neck.
"come on, enough of tonight." she whispered, pulling you to bed "let's go to sleep"

♕ No Matter What - Part 14 | Lena Luthor ♕
Tumblr media
Pairing: Lena Luthor x reader
Warnings: major injuries, blood, violence, cursing, angst
Summary: Sick of being toyed with, Lena takes action against her brother only for it to backfire in the worst way imaginable.
Previous Part | Next Part | Masterlist
________________________________________________
“Ready?” Kara asks.
Lena nods and squares her shoulders, glancing my way for a second.
I give a thumbs up, albeit a bit halfheartedly and watch as Winn does some final tests on the microphone and camera.
It’s been two days since Lena got Lex’s letter. I have yet to read the whole thing, but judging by how she bawled when she was done reading it I can only imagine what he threatened to do if she doesn’t retract her testimony.
Instead of wallowing in self pity though, Lena decided that she wouldn’t let him manipulate her like this any longer which is why she’s now scheduled for an interview to reveal his plans of overturning his conviction to the world.
I’m not entirely sure this is the right thing to do because who knows how Lex will react, but when I brought it up to Lena she snapped at me.
I was irritated at first, but then she broke down crying again and said she had to do something because she couldn’t handle anyone getting hurt again, especially not me.
“Alright, we’re on in three seconds,” Winn says, joining me behind the camera. “Three, two, one. . .”
He nods and points a finger gun at Kara to signal that the camera is rolling.
The blonde fidgets with her glasses and looks at the notes in her lap before diving right into the interview.
She asks Lena about the breakout first, getting some information about how she found out about it before mentioning the letter.
Lena is tense and fidgets with her hands in her lap, but she’s doing her best to uphold a calm and confident appearance by sitting upright and keeping her face blank.
“Lex is a behind-the-scenes player,” she says. “He doesn’t like to act in the open and often pays people to do his dirty work for him which is why I set up this interview. People need to know what he’s up to.”
Kara nods, looking more serious than I have ever seen her.
She goes on to ask about the possible consequences of this interview and Lena tells her she hopes that Lex will back off for the time being now that the public is aware of what he’s trying to do.
They wrap things up rather quickly, Kara giving Lena a big hug once the cameras are turned off and Lena invites her over for dinner.
She also invites Winn, but he declines politely because he already has plans with James and William. They’re going bowling which is a once-a-month ritual for them and he already missed the last time they did it because he was sick.
The cameras and microphones are disassembled and packed away and within a couple of minutes we’re all making our way out of L-Corp.
It’s late which is why no reporters are around and Winn hails down a cab and bids us all goodbye as Alfred pulls up in the familiar black SUV.
I open the back door for Kara and Lena, waiting for them to get in before closing it again and getting into the front passenger seat myself.
I saw the longing look Lena sent me when she hesitated before getting in, but I didn’t get in with her because three people in the backseat would have been a tight squeeze and there wouldn’t have been much I could have done to comfort her with Kara around.
Alfred sends me a knowing look, obviously having caught onto the more-than-friendly relationship between Lena and I, but he doesn’t comment on it.
There’s not much traffic at this time of night, so we get to Lena’s place rather fast and I order some takeout while we’re in the elevator up to the apartment after agreeing on burgers and fries with Kara and Lena.
They take a seat on the couch, resuming their chat from the car about Kara’s new boss and I excuse myself, not wanting to intrude, and go to the guestroom.
I change out of my work clothes, putting my gun and holster on the nightstand and slip into a pair of sweatpants and a sleeveless shirt.
My back has healed nicely over the last couple of days and I can finally move again without being in pain anymore but there are still some fading bruises.
With a satisfied sigh, I jump on the bed and take out my phone, aimlessly scrolling through my camera roll.
I’m too tired to watch TV or read, so this will have to do.
I don’t have many pictures because after Noah’s death I haven’t really taken pictures of anything, but there are some pictures Lena took with my phone.
There’s a selfie she took with a dopey grin and me in the background passed out on the couch.
I didn’t know she took this and I smile when I zoom in on her face. Her eyes are sparkling with happiness and her cheeks are slightly flushed.
I love her, I think, but before I can bask in the feeling a message pops up.
It’s from my mom and I have half a mind to ignore it, but then I swipe down on it, freezing when I read what it says.
Your dad’s in the hospital. Heart attack. Please come. He was asking for you.
A heart attack? I’m not surprised, that mans been eating as though life insurance is free his entire life.
I don’t know how to feel, but I change into some more appropriate clothes either way and grab my gun off the nightstand.
I slip it into a different holster, fastening it to my belt before grabbing my phone and keys, making my way out of the room.
No matter how much he’s hurt me and how much I’ve told myself I hate him in the past, I still care about him.
He’s my dad for crying out loud, and before Noah’s death we were super close. He used to take me hunting and taught me how to play the piano, but since our falling out I haven’t done either of those things.
“Y/N? You ok?”
Kara looks at me with worry and Lena stops pouring herself another glass of wine in the kitchen to turn around and look at me, too.
Her eyebrows furrow when she takes in my getup and she rounds the kitchen island to tug at my jacket.
I don’t answer Kara. I just wave her off with a forced smile and focus on Lena.
“Where are you going?” she asks softly, fixing my collar before resting her hand on my chest.
I’m surprised by her open display of affection in front of Kara, but when I glance past her the blonde is watching us with the same knowing look Alfred had earlier.
Damn, are we that obvious? First Alex, then Alfred and now Kara?
I shake that thought and focus on Lena, hanging my head and putting my own hand over the one she has on my chest. “To the hospital. My dad had a heart attack,” I say softly.
Lena gasps and cups my cheek to make me look at her. “Oh my God. Do you want me to go with you?”
“No,” I decline quickly. “No, stay here with Kara and enjoy yourself. I’m sure with my hogging all your time recently you have a lot to catch up on.”
I force another smile, also directing it at Kara before stepping out of Lena’s space and making my way to the door.
I don’t want company right now because I have to focus on figuring out how I’m feeling.
I grab my bike from the janitors closet down in the lobby and start pedaling toward the hospital. The air is cold and crisp and makes my skin prickle, but it helps me clear my head a bit.
Why is my dad asking for me? Does he want to make up? Or is he calling me over to tell me once again what a horrible person I am?
I turn down a narrow street when I notice the street ahead is blocked by a construction site and frown when I ride past a black, windowless van.
It seems odd and out of place being parked on the side of the road because no other cars are around, but as soon as I’m past it, I shrug it off and imagine what it will be like when I get to the hospital.
My mom will surely be waiting for me, but what about my dad? Is he in surgery? Is he just waking up from surgery? What if he’s not even alive anymore?
I’m so preoccupied with my own thoughts that I don’t notice the van I just rode past catching up with me until it’s too late.
I look over my shoulder when it gets dangerously close and shout, “Hey! Watch it!”
The driver doesn’t slow down though and before I can swerve out of the way, I’m rear-ended and I fly off my bike, skidding on the pavement until I come to a rolling stop.
My pants and jacket are torn in several places, revealing scraped patches of skin, but what hurts most is my shoulder because that’s what I landed on initially.
My head also feels like it’s about to burst and everything is blurry and I feel like throwing up.
I move to get up, noticing my knuckles are covered in blood, but I don’t get far because a heavy blow to the back of my head sends me sprawling back onto the ground.
I groan and blink in an attempt to get rid of the dancing black dots in my vision, but it’s of no use because not even a couple of seconds later I’m slipping into unconsciousness.
Something incessantly poking my ribs is what ultimately wakes me up and when I move to swat at it I find myself being unable to do so because my hands are bound above my head.
I force my eyes open and let out an involuntarily sob when the pain of being hit by the van begins to catch up with me.
My shoulder aches and I tilt my head back to see I’m strung up by my hands and chained to a rusty pipe. My feet are barely touching the ground which puts extra strain onto my shoulder and makes it hard for me to breathe.
I cough, wincing when a wave of pain shoots through me and look around, trying to make out where I am, but then a harsh spotlight is turned on and aimed at my face.
It’s so bright my eyes close reflexively and I turn my head with another wince.
“Finally! You’re awake. I was afraid Otis might have hit you just a little too hard.” A voice says and I strain to open my eyes again to see who it belongs to.
I almost scoff when I see who it is and let out a defeated sigh.
Of course it’s him.
“Lex Luthor,” I croak, my fingers flexing above my head in an attempt to ease the tug on my wrists.
“So you know who I am,” he says with a smirk, redirecting the spotlight ever so slightly so I can see him properly.
We’re in what looks like an abandoned warehouse. Where we are and how much time has passed since I left Lena’s though is unbeknownst to me.
I don’t say anything and just watch him as he shoves one of his hands into the pocket of his dress pants. The dark three piece suit he’s wearing seems to shine in the low light and I can only guess how expensive it must be.
He smiles wickedly and goes to a rusty table I didn’t notice until now, dragging it across the wet concrete floor until it stands a couple of feet in front of me.
On it, he opens a laptop and connects it to a camera, aiming it at me before he starts typing something on the laptop.
My arms are starting to go numb and the longer I stay in this position the harder it gets to breath, so I grit out an irritated, “What are you doing?”
He looks up for a moment, smirking, before returning his attention to the laptop.
I thrash, making the chains rattle above me before settling back down with a shaky breath.
“What do you want from me?” I wheeze.
Lex finally stops typing and pulls out a phone, dialing a number but not calling it just yet.
“Oh, I don’t want anything from you,” he says. “You’re just a means to an end.”
I frown for a second before it dawns on me.
Lena. . . He’s using me to get to her.
“Yes, that’s right,” he says, watching me carefully. “My darling little sister seems to be quite infatuated with you and because I would never dare to lay a hand on her, what better way is there to get to her than through you.”
I feel physically sick and swallow the bile that threatens to rise in my throat. It’s beyond me how someone can treat their sibling like this, but then again, this is Lex Luthor we’re talking about and he’s not exactly known for being a devoted family man.
The smug look on his face makes my blood boil and I reflexively go to reach for my gun, but I quickly realize I can’t because my hands are still tied and when I glance down I see that it’s not even on me anymore.
Of course it’s not, I think before looking back up to meet Lex’s eyes.
He tilts his head, probably wondering what’s going through my head before sighing and calling the number he’s already dialed.
He puts the phone on speaker and when I squint I feel my stomach drop as I recognize my silver phone case.
I thrash around, knowing exactly who he’s calling.
Dread washes over me, clawing at my throat when a familiar voice answers, sounding distressed, and I have to close my eyes to will away my tears.
“Y/N! Thank God you’re calling. Where the hell are you? I was so worried! The hospital said—“
“Hello, darling sister,” Lex cuts her off, sounding eerily calm and it’s quiet on the other end of the line for a couple of seconds before Lena’s voice, now shaking, is heard again.
“Lex, what have you done to Y/N?” she whispers which makes him laugh.
He clicks his tongue in faux irritation and shakes his head even though she can’t see him. “My, my, my little one, what have I taught you about jumping to conclusions, hmm? I haven’t done anything. Yet. . . What happens next though is completely up to you.”
Silence, again.
Then. . .
“What do you want?” she asks quietly, broken. “Please, I’ll do anything, just don’t hurt Y/N.”
“No, Lena!” I croak, tugging and pulling at the chain in an attempt to get close enough to kick Lex. All I manage to do is flail around like a fish out of water though, slipping and gasping when I try to regain my footing.
“Y/N?!” Lena sounds frantic when she hears my voice, but before I get to reply a stinging pain shoots up my side, leaving behind a throbbing ache.
I yelp and cough, straining to see what happened when my eyes land on a familiar figure, twirling a baseball bat around in his hands. It’s the same man that attacked me over a week ago.
“I’m sorry, but has no one ever taught you not to interrupt a conversation?” Lex chastises, holding out a hand to stop his goon from hitting me again.
I groan and close my eyes, trying not to focus on the pain running through me.
“Lex, I swear to God—!”
“Ah, ah, ah, Lena,” Lex cuts her off yet again. “That’s not how this works. You don’t get to threaten me when I so clearly have the upper hand. Now, unless you don’t want your precious Y/N to get hurt any more, I suggest you do as I say.”
He pauses and waits for Lena’s response which ultimately comes in the form of a whispered, “Okay. . .”
“Perfect, now, the first thing I want you to do is turn on your laptop,” he says and a few seconds go by before Lena says that she’s done what he asked.
“Great, now just sit back and enjoy the show,” he says, hitting a few buttons on his own laptop before turning to me, saying, “Smile for the camera!”
I peel my eyes open and sigh when I spot the blinking red light on the camera.
Not even a second later, the bat makes contact with my side again and I yelp, tasting blood in my mouth when I cough.
“Y/N!” Lena’s voice over the speaker sounds frantic and I shiver, realizing she’s being forced to watch what’s being done to me.
God, we’re going to need so much therapy after this. . . Or at least she will because at the rate things are going, my chances of getting out of this alive are pretty low.
“Stop, it! Please, Lex. I already told you I’ll do whatever you want,” she sobs and no matter how much pain I am in, hearing her crying is a hundred times worse.
“Oh, I know,” he says. “I just wanted to demonstrate what will happen if you don’t.”
I huff and cough again, feeling a trail of blood run down the side of my chin.
Welp, that’s not good.
The thought of my parents cross my mind briefly and I wonder if they think I didn’t show up because I simply don’t care about them anymore.
That couldn’t be further from the truth, but I’m not exactly in a position to prove them wrong right now, so I’ll just have to wait and see how this plays out before I can find them and fix things.
“. . . and now because you’ve decided to share our business with the world, I not only want you to retract your testimony. I also want you to turn yourself in and tell the police you set me up and that you’re behind all the money laundering and human trafficking,” Lex rambles and my eyes widen at what he’s asking of Lena.
“You sick fuck!” I spit, kicking and flailing again before looking directly at the camera. “Lena, you’re not doing this! You’re not going to prison for things he did. You’re not going to prison for me—“
“Shut up!”
This time the bat hits my temple, but because my arms are raised above my head, most of the blow lands on my upper arm.
It leaves the same throbbing pain behind as the one on my side and my whole body begins to tremble. Something wet and sticky runs down the side of my face and my hands are completely numb.
I’m going to die here.
“Easy there, Graves,” Lex warns his goon, glaring at me for interrupting once again. “We wouldn’t want to add another murder charge to your file now, would we?”
The bulky man grumbles and lowers the bat so he can kick at it in front of him
“I’ll do it, Lex. I swear. Please just stop,” Lena sobs on the other end of the line, but I can’t just let her go down for Lex’s crimes.
“No!” I choke out, thrashing around until, surprisingly, the rusty pipe I’m chained to breaks in half.
I fall to my knees, crying out in pain before stumbling to my feet.
I’m breathing heavily, stunned that I managed to actually break free before springing into action.
My hands are still chained together but that doesn’t stop me from tackling Lex’s goon.
He howls in surprise and lets go of the bat when we topple over.
My heartbeat pounds in my ears and an unfamiliar rage cursed through me as I grab the piece of chain that tied me to the pipe and wrap it around his neck.
He thrashes beneath me, choking as his face turns red, but I don’t let up as I watch the life drain out of him.
Before I get to finish the job though, the muffled sound of a gunshot rings out and I let go of the chain with a scream, clutching at my side where it feels like I’ve been hit by the bat again.
I fall to the side, writhing in pain just to see Lex standing over me with my gun in one hand and my phone in the other.
I hear Lena crying hysterically over the phone, obviously having witnessed what just happened, while Lex is just watching me with a mix of pity and disgust.
“I really didn’t want to do this, Y/N,” he says as though he just caught a child stealing candy, “but you left me no other choice.”
I grunt and shake my head, feeling tears streaming down my face.
“Fuck you,” I whisper. “You’re a wretched human being and you don’t deserve Lena.“
Lex chuckles menacingly before turning serious within a split second. He drops my phone and kneels beside my head, yanking at my hair so I’m forced to look at him.
“And you’re a nobody,” he says calmly. “Lena might be completely infatuated with you right now, but in time she’ll realize how pathetic you actually are.
“I know more about you than you think. You got your brother killed and for the last year you’ve been wallowing in self pity because of it. Oh, and you’re poor, let’s not forget about that. No one likes a charity case.”
My chest tightens painfully and I gather whatever strength I have left in me to spit in his face.
He freezes before letting go of my hair to wipe the saliva off his face. Then he gets back to his feet.
For a second I think he’s heading back to the computer to turn off the live feed, but then he spins back around with a menacing howl and starts kicking me in the stomach.
I sob and try to protect myself with my still bound hands but it’s of no use.
Every time his foot buries itself in my stomach the breath gets knocked out of me until I’m on the brink of passing out.
He stops as quickly as he started and smooths out his suit, making sure his cuff links are still in place.
“You know what to do, Lena,” he says, waving at the camera on the table. “If you don’t I’m letting Y/N bleed out, so you better be quick about it because there’s not much time left until it’s too late.”
I don’t hear Lena’s reply over the phone because it feels like I’m floating and everything is muffled, but I manage to drag myself forward the tiniest bit to whisper, “I’m sorry, Lena. I love you,” into the phone before passing out.

Fem gip spider girl- Phoebe Parker part 2
Part one
(I might make this into an actual Fic.)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Fluff, mentions of intimacy, possessives, golden retriever x black cat.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Phoebe grabbed the glasses from the cabinet as she helped Kara prepare dinner for her and her annual friends night.
When she started dating the blonde superhero, she didn’t realize how different her and Kara actually were, but that’s what made them perfect together.
Kara’s golden retriever energy lightening up the room, whole Phoebe black cat energy threatens anyone who dare disturb Kara.
“You don’t have to stay if you don’t want to.” Kara tells her, walking to her as she came back from the living room.
“This is important to you, babe, I’m fine. Just your friends.” Phoebe muses as she was her won boss anyway, her and Lena going 50/50 on the company due to both of them being billionaires and well Phoebe loved working, especially photography. Reporting just came with the job.
Phoebe rolled up her sleeves, revealing the tattoos she had prior to getting bitten by a spider. Her black silk shirt matching her dark aesthetic as a silver necklace hanged from her neck. It was a matching one with Kara.
She had supergirls symbol while Kara had a spider. And the some of the many rings Kara got her her littered her fingers.
“You get the door, I got the pasta.” Phoebe tells her as her hair was in a lose pony tail, her black curls showing off.
Kara stiffened for a second, signaling she was listening to the footsteps walking towards her door.
“Just a sec.” Kara tells her, grabbing her face and pulling her in for a lingering kiss knowing Alex would be too over protective to let her kiss her girlfriend. Older siblings were a pain in the ass.
“Your cute.” Phoebe muses, watching her walk off before taking the Pasta out the oven, mixing the salad in a giant bowl with a salad grabber thing? Phoebe didn’t really pay attention to what Kara told her it was. Too busy staring at the blonde.
She brought it all the to the table as Kara greeted her friends, opening the door for them.
“It smells great, Kara!” Winn hums as the smell hits their noses.
“Thanks!” Kara smiles widely, proud of herself even though Phoebe had to make 99%, the on 1% helping put the cheese on the pasta. Phoebe didn’t mind as long as it made Kara happy.
“Hey Miss. Patera.” Winn greets her, still not used to seeing his boss outside of work.
“Please, Phoebe outside of work.” Phoebe tells him, giving him a brief smile before walking back into the kitchen.
“Damn.” Kelly mumbles to Kara as her, Lena, and Alex gawk at the woman who was currently grabbing wine from the cabinet.
“I know.” Kara tells her, starring at her girlfriend as she could practically hear the cocky smirk she was wearing.
“Babe? Could you bring the ranch in here?” Kara asks her as she walks towards the table, setting the napkins out once she breaks her trance.
“On it.” Phone calls back out, grabbing the sauce before walking into the kitchen. The wine bottle in her other hand as she sat next to Kara.
~~~
“Uno!” Kara calls out as she leans back into Phoebe, sitting in her lap as she played Uno with her friends.
Phoebe on her phone as she went online shopping, buying more things for Kara, who could see it.
“Attached to your phone, much?” James comments, narrowing his eyes at Pheobe. His comment creating unwanted tension.
“Have something to say?” Pheobe looks up at him, raising an eyebrow in a challenging way.
“It’s friends night.” James laughs, although no one laughs with him. “Phones aren’t typically allowed.”
“James-“ Kara glares at the man, annoyed with his constant jealousy.
“It’s fine, he’s right.” Pheobe hits order on her shopping cart which was really a bunch of stuff for Kara before putting her phone down.
Lena looks at Pheobe knowing the woman well enough, hiding her smirk.
Pheobe grabs the cards, shuffling them through her fingers, slightly showing off.
~~~
“Reverse. Reverse again, plus four, change the color to red and uno.” Pheobe calls out her cards as she sets it down before setting her last card down, winning the game, and leaving James with about 24 cards.
“Should have warned you she was a pro at Uno, banned her from playing.” Lena laughs, as James looks at his cards and back up at the woman who kicked his ass.
Kara stiffens as she hears something in the distance, police sirens and crashing. “Babe. could you help me get the mail?” Kara turns to her.
Pheobe focuses on her hearing, hearing the sirens too. “Of course.” Pheobe smiles, allowing Kara to get up before following her out.
“Are they?” Lena turns to Kelly who smirks. “Go little Danvers.”
“Hey hey hey, they did not sneak off to…” Alex shivers in disgust.
Before she could get up, super girl flies past the window, with Spidergirl swinging behind her, showing off as she flung past the window.
“That explains a lot.” Winn muses, putting two and two together.
“What? How?” James rushes to the window, watching them swing and fly off.
~~~
Pheobe lands on Kara’s balcony, roses in her hand as she takes off her mask, walking into the building.
“You didn’t-“ Kara walks over to her, bringing her in for a hug, making sure not to smoosh the flowers.
“Here, my love.” Phoebe’s Russian accent showing as she grabs a box from her pocket.
Kara’s eyes widen in pure happiness, making Phoebe smile at her. “Open it.” Phoebe tells her, setting the flowers in a vase.
Kara opened it to find a rose ring, decked out in diamonds as a sapphire sat in the middle.
“Babe- I-“ Kara’s words got stuck in her throat as she put the ring on her right ring finger.
Phoebe walks up behind her, wrapping her arms around Kara’s waist.
“You deserve the world, Mon amour.” Phoebe kisses her neck, her black of her suit contrasting to Kara’s pastel clothes.
Phoebe pulls Kara back into her as Kara lets her head fall back onto her shoulder, enjoying the attention.
Kara gasps softly, turning around so she was facing Phoebe. “I love you.”
“I love you more.” Phoebe smiles, pulling her in for a kiss, her hands trailing down to the blondes waist, gripping it.
“Show me.” Kara tells her softly against her lips. Getting a smirk from the spider superhero.
“Jump” Phoebe mumbles against her lips as Kara wouldn’t let them part for a second. Following the command Kara jumps, Phoebe grabbing her thighs for her legs to wrap around the superhero’s waist as Phoebe walks them into the bedroom, not disconnecting their lips for a second.
He’ll never love you (like I do)
Supergirl, Lena Luthor x Reader, Kara Danvers x Reader, Alex Danvers, James Olsen, Sam Arias.
Word Count: 3120.
Notes: prompt by @thebifisignal. It took me forever but here it is. The heartbreak of being left for James Olsen is worst than a normal one guys.
Superfriends group text:
Kara: Guys, game night tomorrow at my apartment.
Alex: Great! I’ll invite Sam.
Lena: Is James coming as well?
Kara: He just said he’ll be there!
Lena: Great! See you guys tomorrow.
You furrow your brows at Lena’s text, surprised and utterly confused. Why is she asking about James and not about you, her own girlfriend? You look at your calendar on your work desk, knowing you can’t join the game night because you have a meeting.
Y/N: Sorry guys, can’t make it. I have to work.
Kara: Aw no. Should we reschedule?
Y/N: No, don’t worry about it. I’ll go to the next one.
Kara: Alright, but if you want me to go pick you up at any time during the game night, let me know.
Alex: You’ll be missed, Y/N. But don’t worry, we’ll take care of Lena for you.
Lena: I can take care of myself.
Ok. Alright. You immediately shoot Lena a text to know if everything is alright. Lena was never one to need anyone to bring her flowers or climb her tower, but still she is usually more sweet than that. She answers with a dry, ‘yes, going into a meeting now’, and you swallow deep. Have you done something?
Sure, you’ve been working a lot, but that’s no excuse. Lena always works a lot herself and this was never a problem for the two of you.
You don’t make it to game night, and on the weekend Lena comes up with a lame excuse not to see you and you decide not to push, afraid this might drive her further away from you. But if you’re being honest, you’re starting to get worried. Even with Kara reassuring you that Lena seems fine.
Must be a little bump in the relationship, you try to convince yourself. You should give her the space she needs.
You go to the next game night, a week later. Lena is already there and she is sitting extremely close to James. You feel a lump on your throat when she says they’ll be partners for the night, but you don’t fight her on it.
So you pair up with Winn, and end up winning more games than you ever did when you were partners with Lena. Except that winning doesn’t matter at all to you and you’d rather lose all night and have her smile at you like she is smiling at James, than winning at this term.
When everyone just gets really tired of competing and playing games, and you all fall into a comfortable conversation about your lives, and what’s going on with National City (nothing good, really. There’s barely ever anything good happening here), you think Lena is going to come back closer to you and talk, instead she sighs loudly when she notices you’re staring and that’s all.
“Hey,” Sam whispers in your ear when everyone else is distracted by Kara enthusiastically telling a story. “What’s up with you and Lena?”
“I don’t know. I was hoping you could tell me.” You look at her, and she furrows her brows. “Has she mentioned being mad at me or something?”
“Not really.” Sam thinks about it for a second. “To be honest, she hasn’t mentioned you in a while.”
“Oh.”
“Are you two on a break?”
“If we are, then I think she forgot to mention it to me.” You feel stupid and completely out of place.
 When you first started dating Lena you knew it wasn’t a good idea to date someone from your group of friends. But the attraction and respect between the two of you was undeniable, and everyone in the group encouraged you two to get together. But now, now you see why you had your doubts in the first place.
When the night ends, you run after Lena before she leaves without saying a word directed at you.
“Lena!” You call her, but she doesn’t stop walking. “Lena, hey! Wait a second.”
She stops, giving you a loud sigh. “What, Y/N?”
“What’s wrong?” You try to hold her arm, but she moves away. “We haven’t seen each other in a week, then you act like you don’t even know me, and what was that whole thing with James?”
Lena blinks at you, like that’s a good answer, or like if maybe you don’t even deserve one. “Y/N, I’m so tired.”
“Of what?”
“This.” She points at the two of you. “This conversation and us and – Look, we should leave this for later.”
“Later when, Lena? You’ve been avoiding me for an entire week!”
You hear someone clearing the throat and you look behind yourself to find James there. He forces a smile, and excuses himself so he can walk down the stairs.
That should be all. It should be James feeling embarrassed to see you and Lena having an argument on the staircase (or trying to have one), but you can tell there’s more. There’s more to it. You can feel the tension between them. They share a look as if they were more than friends, as if they were allies. It’s funny how they say nothing to each other or to you, but they don’t have to because the whole moment was so tension-filled that it already says everything.
“Shit.” It’s your only reaction. You let yourself fall on your butt, sitting on one of the steps when James is out of sight. “Shit, Lena.”
She looks at you, totally aware of why you’re saying this. She knows. She can see how much you know and yet she does nothing to deny it. Nothing to ease your mind. Nothing at all.
“You're leaving me for him, aren’t you?” It’s not like you don’t know already, but yet you need confirmation. You need an admission for it to feel real.
Lena bites her lower lip. Then she looks at her hand, ignoring your gaze. “I’m – Yeah.” She breathes out. “Yes, I am.”
Your heart stops on your chest. God, you did not see that coming. So you miss one game night and she replaces you like that? She switches partners not only to play games, but to live her life with? How did that happen? How did it happen so fast? Unless… It didn’t.
“What happened?” You look up to her. She doesn’t look like your Lena. She looks small and so distant, it’s like you can feel this barrier around her. “How did we ever come to this?”
“We grew apart.”
“In a week?” You can’t hold the surprise in your voice, because things were not this bad a week ago, at least not for you, and if it was so bad for her why didn’t she mention it sooner?
“I can’t explain, I just don’t feel the same way about you anymore. Or about him.”
“You know he will never love you like I do, right?”
“Y/N.” That’s all she says. She says your name and it says it all. So sardonic and sharp, it leaves no margin for wondering. You agree with your head reading her perfectly.
She doesn’t care about that, she doesn’t care about the fact that you love and respect her like no one ever will. She doesn’t care that you completely understand what it is like to be a woman in this business, because you are one yourself. She doesn’t care that you respect her space, and that you took your time to break down her barriers and open up to someone. Lena doesn’t care that you are the first person she truly trusted in years.
And you feel stupid.
Stupider than you’ve ever felt.
She is leaving you for James Olsen. Which only makes this whole thing a lot worse.
You get up, passing her and running down the stairs so she doesn’t see the tears springing on your eyes.
To be honest, you’ve never expected this to happen. It’s not like you were planning to marry Lena, although you did think there was a great possibility of that to happen. But what you didn’t expect at all was her breaking your heart like this. Especially not after everything the two of you went through.
And God, for everyone she could leave you for… James Olsen? That fucking idiot who doesn’t even believe in her. Who judged her because of her name on several occasions. Who broke her trust and lied to her before.
She is leaving you for the most absurd, worst suitor possible. Which leaves you feeling like crap. There’s too much stuff running wild in your mind, on the ride back home. Too much stuff leaving you hollow and devastated.
Oh, how much you despise him.
Despise is a strong word, you know that. It’s not James’ fault. You try to tell yourself while your brain floods with images of you shooting daggers at him. He stole Lena from you.
But that’s not what happened, was it? Lena cannot be stolen. Cannot be whisked away like she can’t make her own decisions. No. Despite all of your anger and your fury, and your clouded judgments; Despite the fact that this is just another reason for you to hate his entire being, you can’t be unfair.
It was her who made this decision. Hell, it was her who let her feelings for him change, and her feelings for you disappear. It was her who decided to break your heart and not even dignify you with the truth before you connected the dots. It was Lena who decided to throw all that you guys built out of the window and move on with her life as if you weren’t there to begin with.
And you try to do the same. You do. You leave the Superfriend group chat, throw yourself into work, into alcohol, into sadness. You cut ties with everyone related to Lena, with all of your friends too. You ask your assistant to send her assistant a box with all of the stuff you could find in your apartment that belongs to her, and if you leave behind the sweater she wore the first time she stayed over, well, then that’s just you doing a crappy job, isn’t it?
You stop leaving the house, scared you might run into her and James at some restaurant or Kara’s apartment. You don’t go to CatCo, even when you miss your best friends because you know you will see him there. And the world goes on, and on.
The silence from all the ends grows heavy, interminable, and it says too much even when it's not saying anything at all. Your friends are on their side. They agree you should be left. They agree James is better for her. They agree you're the odd one out and they are leaving you too.
And God, you wonder if all of this pain is going to go away someday. You wonder if the relationship was real in the first place, or whether it was just an act to love you from her end. And you wonder if this pain is for nothing.
You snap out of it when the doorbell rings. Clean your tears, and hide your bottles. Toss Lena’s sweater under a cushion and let your hair down. Then you make your way to the door.
She looks at you in pity. Kara’s blue eyes are filled with sadness and warmth, but also pity. And you hate that.
“You’re not picking up my calls.” She states as to why she is here unannounced, before you even have a chance to ask her. “And I cannot let you do this.”
“Do what, not pick up my phone?” You bicker and she winces at your harshness. But this is Kara, and that’s not enough to push her away. So, instead, she steps inside your apartment.
“That, too. But I cannot let you do this.” She walks to the bottles of alcohol you just hid behind the couch. You roll your eyes at her x-ray vision, and the clear invasion of privacy. “Hide and suffer alone.”
“Well, I am alone.” Your tone is accusatory, and completely unnecessary. Kara didn’t leave you for James. She didn’t break your heart and left you wondering what was wrong with you and if you did something unacceptable.
She comes back to where you are, because you still haven’t moved. Kara’s hands go to your arms, stroking the length of it, careful and shielding. “You are not alone. I’m right here.”
“Kara.” You argue with her name alone. Too tired and drunk for more.
“It will get better.” Kara says, sadly and hopeful. And you want to laugh at her for still being able to say this after the whole thing that just happened. But you also want to yell, scream-cry and fall on the floor in a hyper-ventilating crying that would make anyone pity your situation. You do none. You breathe deep.
“But this doesn’t make it better right now.”
She agrees with her head, and pulls you in for a hug. You don’t fight her on it, but you don’t hug her back. Yet, you feel completely safe and loved inside her embrace, which allows your angry tears to leave your eyes and soak her button-up shirt. She doesn’t let go, though. She would never.
You don’t know how, or when, you two moved to the couch. But you notice the change of positions when she kneels in front of you, hand on your knee.
“What happened?” Kara’s other hand goes to your face, trying to wipe out some tears. But your own hands are in the way, hiding your face and your shame for crying over a woman who just left you like you were nothing. It takes a few minutes for Kara to ask again. “Honey, what happened? Why did Lena tell me she hopes it hurts?”
“She did?” Your crying is put to stop, although the tears are still rolling down your cheeks. “She left me for him, stabbed me in the back, and she hopes it hurts?”
“What?” Kara’s brows quirks. “She – What?”
“Left me for James.” You think about the absurdity of it all. About the pain and the crisis you just fell into because of her. Because of him. And you laugh sharp and sour. “She left me for James fucking Olsen, Kara.”
“She – She couldn’t.” But at the same time that her voice is incredulous, her face is filled with anger and ire. Looking like she could spit fire instead of freeze air. Like she might be capable of breaking them like twigs.
She blinks one lonely tear, as if she can feel what you’re feeling and you wipe your own face clean, aggressively.
“Well, you can tell her that it doesn’t anymore.” You resolve, with new found strength and petulance. “I won’t allow her to leave me in pieces.”
You can’t believe you let this situation keep you up at night. You can’t believe you let that woman break your every heartbeat.
Kara holds your neck, pulls your face onto her shoulder, and you bury your nose on the crook of her neck, breathing her in. “I’m on your side. I’m with you. And you’ll never be alone.” She whispers a promise, kissing your temple softly and loving. “I’ve got you, sweetheart.”
“Thanks, Kara.” You whisper too, pulling back, until your forehead is resting against hers.
“It will stop hurting, and it will get better. And I’ll be by your side until it does. And when it does… I’ll be right here.” She blinks at you like she is saying something else. “I will not break your heart or your trust.” She whispers. “I will not leave you.”
And you blink too, unaware of what it could be. Confused as to why she is making sure you know all that. And she sees the confusion crossing your face, so she kisses your forehead, loving but respectfully.
“Let’s start with getting you sober, and out of this crisis.” She smiles, making way to your cabinets, and your coffee pot. “Wanna take a shower while I get this ready?”
“Okay.” You whisper, baffled by the change of her demeanor, but not ready to get into that just yet.
Nia comes on the very next day. And not long after Alex texts and a game night is quickly arranged at your apartment. Lena and James are not invited, but everyone else is. They don’t bring out their names, though Sam lets it slide that Kara has cut all ties with them.
You don’t tell Kara she didn’t have to. She knows she didn’t. And there’s nothing you can say that would change Kara Danvers’ mind anyways.
You strive to get better. Some days you don’t even remember who Lena Luthor was, and some other times… Well, you try to cry alone under your blankets so Kara doesn’t hear you, but every time without fail, the depression session turns into a sleepover and you forget about Lena once again.
They break up after a few months. You don’t keep up with the news about her, but sometimes you hear things, no matter how much your friends try to shield you from it. You don’t want Lena to be sad, but you’re glad to know you were right. He could never love her like you did.
He almost dies and Kara tells you she is going to visit him, as if she is asking for permission to do so. You fear for what this could mean. Ties are being mended and maybe that means that she is not with you, like she promised. But she comes back. And she doesn’t break your trust.
It stops hurting, and Kara is still here. She doesn’t break your heart, like she said she wouldn’t. Instead, she helps you heal it. She patches it up and aids it. And never once you are left alone.
It takes you a few months but you finally get it. You get what she meant in her whisper.
Kara is not leaving, because real love doesn’t flee. It doesn’t expire or grows apart. It grows together in the same direction. It doesn’t leave you alone with a deep cut and a nightmarish heartbreak. No. It nurses your heart back to health, sure it will be able to love again. Real love waits for its turn and, when the time comes, holds onto the chance.
And it never, ever, breaks your heart and your trust, nor leaves you.
Valentine’s Day 2024. Supergirl edition.
Karamel. Bought and tested out their Halloween costumes for this year. Hint. There were swords involved. All with a regency fair.
Dansen. Family dinner with Esme. The kitchen looks like a sauce drenched, flour covered hellscape. But the pizzas came out great.
Brainia. Went to the swankiest restaurant in the city and spied on two people they set up. Their dinner went well. The blind date. Not so much.
James x Lucy. Sparring inside the training room at the DEO that “continued” inside their apartment. And well into the next morning.
Winn x Samantha. They had planned a night of Grand Romance. But instead they fell asleep the couch. Winn found the ring the next morning.
William and Andrea. The aforementioned set up. The dinner itself went mostly okay. But Andrea did not like waking up in her bed hugging a bucket with William asleep in the chair. Not when she’d hoped it had gone another, far more pleasurable, way.
Lena. Growing gradually more incensed at all the highly expensive takeout being delivered to her door after an argument with Maxwell.
Maxwell. Laughing to himself as he keeps ordering highly expensive takeout to be delivered to Lena’s door after the aforementioned argument.
Leap of faith
Lena Luthor x male!reader
Summary: Lena has never been good with giving her trust to people, but when you come into her life, she finds it harder and harder not to give her whole self to you
Warning: reader getting hurt (slightly), reader's powers are not specified but flying and healing abilities are hinted
Love and trust are two things that coexist. One cannot love without trust, and trust is followed by love of any form.
For Lena both of them were strangers, her mother and brother definetly weren't the lovely type, and all of her life she felt like trust was only given to be broken right after, resulting in the fortress of walls all around her.
Even when she felt like she could trust her best friend, it turned out she was hiding being Supergirl, and everyone around them knew, leaving the CEO out of the loop.
So, even after forgiving everyone, Lena will think twice before giving her trust to anyone else.
But Lena can't control who she falls in love with.
You moved to National City a few months ago. Gotham already had Batman and all his collegues, hence why you never used your powers; besides, it was way too gloom for you, so you decided a fresh start was for the best.
You realized you were right when the first day at your new apartment you were woken up by sun rays and not by police sirens.
You soon started working with Kara as the new superhero in town.
Everyone, especially Alex, were weary of you at first, but after a while of being nothing but helpful to them and the city they started to trust you.
One day you took you mask off and revelead you identity without expecting Kara to do the same, and that particular selfless action made her fully trust you, making her want to do the same.
And that's when you became a part of the superfriends.
A couple of weeks after meeting Lena you told her who you really were, even after Alex and Kara told you it wasn't necessary since she wasn't a part of the DEO; but, your words, you didin't want to lie to a potential friend.
That day the black haired woman smiled at you in a way so soft she never thought she was able to.
- - - -
"guys! Lena's here!"
You shouted as you opened the door to Kara's apartment, making room for the CEO to enter. "sorry I'm late, i had something to finish at work first" she meant to say to everyone, but her low tone made it possible only for you to hear.
"oh don't worry we were just chatting." you reassured her, helping her remove her coat, and unkowingly leaving a blush on her cheeks at the action.
"Kara tried to eat all the appetizers, but I hid some for you." you whispered, fully aware that the kryptonian could still hear you.
You two made your way to the living room where Winn and James where playfully arguing about something, Alex was preparing the table to make room for the next game, while Kara got up to greet her best friend.
Lena soon followed after you, sitting beside you. There were other seats available but you never seemed to mind it when the black haired woman chose to seat next to you, so it soon bacame a habit.
After all, it was easier to team up against everyone else.
You weren't as competitive as Lena during games, but you had a grit she really liked, and were much more skilled than she was.
That's pretty much how you two became friends. The first two weeks she kept to herself, she was never mean to you but she also never made an effort to deepen your connection.
But the moment you revealed your identity is when she started to be more open towards you, and slowly but surely the two of you became close friends, hanging out outsides of gamenights too.
"oh food's here" Kara chimed in at the sound of the doorbell, clearly hungry; and Alex groaned, needing to clear up the table yet again.
"I'll get it" Lena announced, starting to get up, but you stopped her with a gentle hand on her exposed thigh
"no I got it"
The kryptonian silently watched the interaction from her spot on the couch with a glint in her eyes, just like she watched any other interaction between the two of you. She knew Lena better than anyone, maybe even better than she knew herself. She knew how those smiles and those light touches became more than just friendly in the last couple of months, how everytime she asked if you were okay after a mission, Lena was much more worried that she ever let on.
And kara knew you had one of the purest and most honest souls she has ever known; you were the perfect choise for her best friend.
She swore to never interfere with your business, especially since she risked rushing and forcing things.
But, as she watched Lena laugh at something you said, she thought a little help never really hurt anyone.
- - - -
After a couple of hours, only you and Lena remained in Kara's apartment, helping her clean up. Alex had gone home since she had work early in the morning and James got a tipsy Winn home.
Lena was washing the dishes while you were sorting out all the board games in the living room and Kara was collecting the trash, "oh, by the way" Kara spoke, stopping the comfortable silence created between you three "how did you get here Lena?"
"oh I just called a taxi" she went silent for a second, turning the water off "I need to call one right now or it will be late"
"or, (Y/N) could take you" the blonde suggested, picking up a beer bottle off the floor near you, nudging your leg with it.
"uh?" you inquired raising your head from the cards you were supposed to put away, not really following their conversation.
"oh no don't worry, he should take a completely different route" Lena tried to argue, but sensing what they were talking about, you interrupted her.
"you didn't come with your car?"
"no she took a cab" Kara answered for her friend.
"oh then I can take you home, it's really not a problem" Lena, who still had her hands wet just smiled, nodding her head.
- - - -
The car ride was quiet, interrupted only by some light conversations here and there and the constant music coming out from the radio. Everytime Lena was in your car you she always refused to choose the music, claiming she liked listening to your music, it definetly wasn't for your relaxed side profile and the way you gently tapped your finger on the steering wheel.
"see? faster than a taxi and definetly cheaper" you joked as you parked your car in front of her house, making the woman next to you lightly chuckle.
"thank you, (Y/N)-" she started, but furrowed her eyebrows confused when she saw you quickly getting out of the car. She followed you with her eyes and smiled when you opened the car door for her.
"After you, my lady" you smiled, adding a little bow at the end.
"always the gentleman, I see" Lena complimented getting out of the car, now face to face with you.
"I had fun tonight" and for some reason, she wasn't thinking of the others.
"yea, me too" you shifted your weight from one foot to the other, the action bringing you closer to her.
"I'll see you soon?" she asked lowly, you two were so close there was no need to talk loudly.
"yea" you replied softly, not really being able to keep the conversation going.
The scientist pulled her hands out from the pockets of her jacket and wrapped them around your neck, bringing you in for a hug, and you reciprocated by wrapping yours around her waist. She disconnected from the hug that lasted a second too long, according to her rational judgment, and resumed talking
"good night, (Y/N). Drive safely"
"good night Lena, I will"
You made sure she closed the door behind her before driving off.
- - - -
A few days later Lena was in her office, working on her computer, when she suddenly felt a wind of air moving from the balcony all the way into the the room. "hello Kara" she greeted the hero, not moving her head from the computer.
"we need help"
her voice didn't sound so alarmed but the CEO shoot up to her feet anyway, just in time to hear you shout Kara's name and see you trip on the balcony, landing in front of them on your hands and knees.
"oh my god what happened?" she rushed to you, helping you to your feet
"you brought me to Lena?" you asked, recognizing the voice.
"you didn't know?"
Kara decided to interviene, clearing the puzzle for both of you "he's fine, he got sprayed with a pepper spray by a mugger, he will heal pretty soon but I though you might have something for the pain.
Feeling calmer, Lena recollected her thoughts, nodding.
"I know to expect bullets, not this" you spoke up again, rubbing your eyes, while your other hand held your mask.
You were, however, instantly stopped by Lena's hand on yours. "don't touch it, it'll only be worse. Put your mask back on, I'll take you to my lab."
She didn't let go of you, now wrapping her fingers around your wrist and got you out of her office. You were able to see lights and shadows but a little guidance didn't hurt. And to anyone asking, and herself, Lena would justify the not so professional touch the same way.
As soon as you two reached the lab, she lead you to a chair, while she grabbed what she needed.
"I'm sorry i literally crushed into your office, I could have handled it on my own too." you said, taking off your mask, knowing you were the only two in the room.
"oh I'm happy to help" she spoke from the other side of the room "and if by handling it on your own, you mean rubbing it like you did before, then I'm very happy you came to me" she teased, and by the way her voice got louder you'd guess she was standing in front of you.
"now open your eyes, and try to keep them open" you tried doing what she said, but closed them right after with a groan.
"it'll just be a second, come on" she got closer to you, now being in between your legs, and put a hand on your forehead.
When you opened your eyes again, you saw a small bottle in her free hand. This time you closed your eyes only when a drop of the liquid touched your sclera, but Lena seemed content with it. "oh it's cold" you commented, the constract in temperature already acting as a relief.
"see? it was just a second. Open the other one now."
After doing the same to the other eye, she put the bottle aside, wiping some tears gathered on your cheecks and at the pool of your eyes, while you kept them closed for a bit more, enjoying the now cool sensation.
Even with your eyes closed you could feel the closeness, how one of her tight was touching yours and how her breath touched your skin from time to time; it took everything in you to keep your hands locked on the top of your knees, and not put them around her waist.
Everytime you were in one of these situations. you couldn't help but think that Lena was holding back from doing something. It couldn't be that she didn't know if you liked her? You think everyone around you knows, whether you told them or they just figured it out.
For a long time you thought this was just her being friendly, despite all the times Kara told you you were the only person she acted so touchy and even vulnerable with, her being aware of it ot not.
So, given she actually likes you back, it must be something else.
You don't know a lot about her past since she rarely talks about it, you only knew the basics but you definetly knew about the walls she hardly lets anyone through.
But for whatever reason she might be holding back,
"are you feeling a bit better?"
you will wait for her to be ready,
"much better, thank you" you re-opened your eyes and she was indeed very close to you.
"great, i'm glad" you swore she glaced at your lips, before straightening her back and taking a step back. "let's get back to Kara, she must be worried"
You followed her back to her office, and found Kara sitting on Lena's chair, spinning around.
"yea, worried" you teased making Lena roll her eyes.
"oh! how are you feeling?" asked the kryptonian, raising from the chair. She had a light blush on her cheeks probably due to getting caught messing around.
"better, not thanks to you" you replied, making her gasp, pointing a finger at herself
"I brought you here"
You ignored her defence, turning back to the scientist "thank you again, I'll see you around?"
At her nod you started going back to the balcony, then threw a confused look at the blonde when you noticed she wasn't following you.
"you go on ahead, I want to talk to Lena first" by the look on the woman's face, she didn't know about it either.
"okay, have fun" you smiled at the two, flying away.
- - - -
"good, you're here" Alex sighed as soon as you and Kara entered the main room of the DEO, already in your supersuit.
"what's going on Alex?" asked her sister.
"a group of aliens just escaped Metropolis' prison, last time they were out they tried getting everyone with any sort of power so they could trade them for their boss, but Superman stopped them"
"and now they're onto us" John finished
"how do you know they're not trying it again in Metropolis, or somewhere else?" Kara asked and this time Winn answered, putting pictures and a map of the city on the big screen.
"they installed a chip in every alien's suit so they could track them in case of escape. Very useful for shapeshifters and aliens who can become invisible."
"that's smart" Supergirl furrowed her brows "why don't we have that?" she turned to John, who didin't seem thrilled by the idea
"it's smart, unless they simply decide to take off their clothes."
Next to Kara, you were only half listening to the debate, a disturbing thought forming in your head "I don't care about that" you interrupted "where are they going Winn?"
"it looks like they parted ways, they're headed to-" the images switched and you instantly recognized the building.
"they're going to Lena" you felt your blood freezing in you veins "I have to go" and without another word, you were off
"Superman is containing the outbreak in Metropolis so it's up to us." Alex explained, normally she would have scolded you for going on your own before knowing the plan, but this was actually a matter of time, so she let you go.
She also knew how worried you were.
"Kara you go to CatCo, while we'll take the smaller groups, they only care about their goal, so get Cat somewhere safe and trap the aliens somewhere. Then call us, and we'll take them back to Metropolis"
And with that, Kara flew out the window, telling you the plan through your earpiece.
- - - -
"okay got it, get Lena safe, trap the aliens, move on" you repeated, removing your hand from your ear.
You broke the window on your way in, you figured she could just get it fixed, not that you were worried about that.
Lena wasn't in her office but they couldn't have gotten to her, according to Winn, they were three minutes away, and you took way less than that to get here.
You ran out of the room, getting to her lab.
You found her sitting in one of the chairs, looking at who knows what. The sound of the door opening made her raise her head, but the smile reserved just for you slowly vanished, taking in your tense stance. Even with your mask on she could read you.
"what's wrong? are you hurt?"
"follow me, there's no time" you heard Winn through the earpiece warning you "please, I'll explain later"
Your voice confermed her suspicions, and she got out of the room with you.
"we need to be quick" you grabbed her hand "we'll take the stairs"
As you run up the stairs you could hear the doors to the building breaking open and people starting to scream, making Lena slighlty jump in fear.
"don't worry, they have no interest in your employees, they just want you." you tired to reassure her, but it didn't seem to work since she stopped moving completely
"who's they? what's going on (Y/N)?"
"we have to run Lena" you pleaded almost desperately.
This really wasn't the time to talk and she didin't seem to understand, so you put a hand around her waist and the other under her knees, and started running with her in your arms.
You tried to briefly explain their intention and your plan, shielding her with your body every time you slammed a door open.
"and I'd do anything to stop it"
Kara confirmed they couldn't fly, so you just had to trap them on the roof and get Lena somewhere safe.
You only let her down when you reached the edge of the roof, and you could hear them quickly approaching.
You didn't let go of her waist yet, thinking she might get scared and fall.
"do you trust me?"
Thanks to the closeness of your bodies, she could catch a glimpse of your eyes, and she could see they were full of fondness and sincerity.
All things Lena always saw when she looked into your eyes.
She let her gaze fall to the ground, then back to you, before nodding.
"I do"
You nodded back, and Lena swore she could feel you smile.
"great" you got off the edge when the aliens broke the door "then jump when I tell you to"
You tried with all your strength to keep them from getting to her, while also trying to seal the door shut.
They weren't a lot but they were fast and agile, which made it hard for you to keep up.
As soon as you sealed the door shut you heard Lena shout your name, only to see two of them getting closer and closer to her.The distraction got you a punch in the gut, making you fall to the ground; consequencently giving them the upper hand.
Your scream came out muffled, but the woman was still able to hear it.
"jump Lena, now!"
Lena looked at the ground once again, the aliens were getting closer but the others held you down, making it impossible for you to move.
Taking another hit to the jaw, you yelled again.
"please, you have to trust me!"
And without a second thought she was in the air.
She tried looking up, waiting for you to come save her, but all she could see was the fast approaching asphalt so she closed her eyes,
Her arms came to her face, a vain attempt at protecting herself.
The next thing she knew, she was on the ground, but she was on her feet while her waist was once again held by your hands; while hers were unconsciously gripping onto your biceps for dear life.
"how did you-"
She tried to speak but her heart was still pumping in her head for the near death experience.
"I told you, they only care about you. They run up to the edge as soon as they saw you jump"
Being in a closed off parking lot, you were able to take off your mask, in an attempt to calm her down.
and it seemed to have worked, but you sensed she had something else to ask, so you spared her the effort.
"I would have never told you to jump unless I was totally sure it would work."
With a little smile, you took one of your hands off her waist to reach Alex through the earpiece.
"Alex there's six of them, they're stuck on the roof of Lena's building"
Putting your hands to rest along your side, the black haired woman almost wished you put them back on her waist.
"get home as soon as you can, it's still not safe for you out here. I have to go"
"please be safe" she whispered, nearly pleaded, her eyes focused on the bruise already forming on your jaw.
"and come back in one piece."
With a job like yours you could never promise something like that, it was a dangerous game where one false step could get you killed, and you both knew that.
But with the way she was looking at you, with her eyebrows forrowed together and her mouth slightly agape, and the way her hands moved to hold your wrists; she made you want go fight death herself and win, just to come back to her.
"I will, I promise."
- - - -
It was a few hours later, since getting back home Lena had her eyes glued to the news playing on the screen, like they always were when she knew you were on a mission.
After the boring news of a soccer player winning a title the woman couldn't be bothered to remember the name of, you and Kara finally apperead on the screen, busy escorting some aliens in a black van she presumed belonged to the DEO, as the reporter provided an upgrade on the situation.
"this imagines were of almost two hours ago, so we can safely assume all the culprits are now back in Metropolis' prison, all thanks to Supergirl and (Y/S/N)" concluded the man, and Lena turned off the tv.
She could finally feel herself relax, sitting on the couch. And although she felt a bit bad you didin't text her to tell her you were okay, she understood you were probably tired and wanted to freshen up a bit.
She also debated texting you, or calling you, but at the last second she decided not to, wanting to avoid waking you up in case you fell asleep. It wouldn't be the first time it had happened, as soon as a mission ended Kara needed to eat to regain her streght, while you prefered a good three hours minimun nap.
But not this time apparently.
As soon as she put the phone down, she heard a knock on the door. Quickly getting up to open it, already knowing who was on the other side.
"I don't know if you had dinner yet, but i'm starving" you said, holding the bag of takeout in your hand.
"hi" she replied softy, not taking her eyes off your face.
"come in" she shook her head after a while, making room for you to enter.
"uh no I didn't eat anything" she answered your question from before, watching you get settled on the couch, after hanging your coat at the entrance.
The scene alone felt so domestic that it brought a smile to the woman's face.
"what do you want to drink?" she asked, heading to the kitchen
"whatever you're having" but you were too focused on setting up the table, and Lena knew this, or you wouldn't have answered like that.
So she repeated the question. This time you registered her words "mhh I'm fine with anything, as long as it's not wine"
She smirked, whispering a "that's more like it" leaving you confused at her remark, as she went to get a bottle of wine for herself, and a bottle of soda for you.
- - - -
While eating you decided to put on a random movie, it was meant to act just as a background noise, but you were actually getting interested in it, considering there wasn't much noise coming from the woman sitting next to you.
That's because she was looking at your side profile. She tried watching the movie, but she soon found out she preferred the way the movie played on your face, with the light shining on your skin, enlightening your features.
From the tip of your nose to your cheekbones, from the lips Lena swore never looked so soft, all the way down to-
"(Y/N)"
She called, but your hum of acknowledgement didn't satisfy her.
"(Y/N), look at me" she tried again, but her tone never lost it's sweetness.
"mh?" this time you turned your head to face her, the movie long forgotten when she gently grabbed your jaw.
"the bruise" she stared, moving her fingers along the skin, trying to find it
"it disappeared"
"it healed" you whispered. And thank God you didn't want to say anything else because you lost all the air in your lungs when her eyes met yours.
"did you get hurt anywhere else?"
She moved her free hand to rest on top of the couch, letting her head lay on it. You adjusted your positions too, hoping she wouldn't pull away when the motion brought you invitably close, with her legs now trapped between your arms.
She didn't.
"nothing more than small bruises" she could feel your throat moving as you talked.
"you asked me to jump off of a building today" she informed you with a small smile, as if you didn't know.
"and without any protection"
Not catching the playfulness in her tone, you let a frown appear on your face.
"I never would have let you jump if i wasn't sure-" you tried reassuring her but she stopped you, whether it was intentional or not, when she moved her hand to the back of your neck, fingers playing with your hair.
"I know (Y/N), I know. It was my decision to trust you"
"thank you for trusting me then" it was all you could muster up at this point, not really knowing where she was going with it.
"thank you for never giving me a reason not to"
Silence fell on the two of you, the way Lena was looking at you, how her gaze flickered from your eyes to your lips; with her fingers tracing figures on your scalp and the way her bottom lip was caught between her theet made it impossible for you to think, let alone talk.
On the other side of the room, there wasn't a single part of Lena's brain that wasn't screaming at her to do something. She could feel your arms touching her thighs, and you looked at her like nothing else in the world mattered right now. And for you it didn't.
You clearly wanted this as much as she did, and she always noticed. Lena was one of the smartest people you knew, so she definitely wasn't oblivious to the way you always held yourself back when the moment got to heated, and she could tell it was for her sake.
And this fact alone tipped her over the edge. She already trusted you with her life, it was time to trust you with her heart.
The hand on the back of your neck tightened it's grip, forcing you down to meet soft lips.
Not that you were complaining.
The kiss was urgent, telling you just how much she has been wanting this.
You could taste the wine she had drunk a few hours ago and wondered if it had always tasted this good.
Her other hand came to rest on your cheek, bringing you impossibly closer.
You put your hand on her waist, thriving at the sound of surprise she let out.
The kisses got more soft and kind as they subsided, and it was Lena who made the first move, pulling away from you.
Shily smiling at the sight of you blindly following her lips.
You opened your eyes to find her already looking at you, with one of her hand coming to your chest to gently stop you.
There were a few seconds of silence between the two of you, you were fairly without words, the only thought occupying your head was the kiss you just had and Lena herself.
The scientist, once again, had so much to say and little courage to do so; strangely, the person who made her feel the safest also made her nervous as hell.
"you kissed me"
You spoke up, the hand on her waist twitching as if you didn't think it really happened.
She bursted out laughing, feeling at ease again.
"I did. And you kissed me back" she whispered
"I did" you repeated, a huge smile taking over your face. "can I do it again? can I kiss you?"
You slowly leaned back in, giving her time to pull away, and Lena can't believe it took her this long to do it.
You scooted closer to her during the kiss, and Lena moved her legs on top of yours, making it easier for you.
Your hand fiddled with the hem of her shirt, sneaking your fingers under it, You didin't want to do anything more than just kissing, at least not tonight, but it was nice feeling her skin against your fingertips.
She was once again the frst one to pull away. As much as she wanted to keep kissing you, god she couldn't get enough of your lips already, she wanted to talk to you.
"stop with the kissing now pretty boy" she said affectionately, the pet name spreading warm all the way to your chest.
It took her a moment to gather her thoughts, around the same time it took you to pay attention to her words.
"I've liked you for quite a while now" she started, and you straightened your posture, adjusting your hand to lay now on her knee "and I think I've always known that, I just couldn't find it in myself to trsut you enough for that"
You slightly nodded at her words to show you were paying attention "you can trust me on everything" you breathed out and lowered your head when you felt her playing with the button of your blouse.
"I realize that" she bit her bottom lip "you know, Kara also had a part in this" she said after a bit, changing subject.
You tilted your head, confused "she did?"
"the day you got sprayed in the eyes-" the woman let out a little laugh at your groan "Kara stayed back to give me a wingwoman sort of speech. Saying things like 'he's a good person' or 'it's clear that you like him too'" She moved her hand around, remembering her friend's words.
"I should thank her then" you answered, but made no move to reach for your phone
you got closer once again "but not right now, I have other things to do" and she accepted your lips on hers without hesitation.
James gave a light knock on Anais' office door and stepped inside, wearing a bigger smile than usual. Of course, ever since he put Snapper in his place - leaving both men to their respective job roles - who wouldn't be happy?
"What can I do for you Mr. Boss?" Anais pushed her chair closer to her desk, putting her hands on her desk.
"I just sent a reporter to the Children's Hospital new building to see what we can get for an article so I need the pictures to go along with it."
"Oh, great!" Anais winced when she heard her own words. "Not like that! I meant — I'm happy to take the assignment before I lose my mind!"
James chuckled. "I take it Winn is still fixing your suit, then?"
Anais glared at nothing in particular but it was a deep glare nonetheless. "Yup," she muttered and got up from her chair.
Winn had kept his word about not letting her go out in the field until she told the DEO — primarily J'onn, Kara and Alex — about Cadmus' threat. It drove Anais up the wall that she wasn't able to convince him otherwise and the use of the physical threats was no good either as she would have to explain to everyone else why she suddenly decided to kill their friend. So, until she decided to tell the truth, Winn was basically holding her suit hostage.
To everyone else, he was just mending her suit.
"And how's Mon-El doing?" James curiously asked since he hadn't stopped by the DEO in a while. He only knew what he was told.
"Kara and him are learning to get along-ish," Anais said, "And we're testing Mon-El's abilities too. See what he can and can't do. He's not leaving the DEO for a while, I'm assuming. Poor guy must be going crazy too."
J'onn had given the order to test Mon-El in every possible way to deduce the danger he could post if left unsupervised. Winn was put in charge of monitoring him and recording the results to later discuss together.
Anais could only imagine the frustration Mon-El would be feeling soon since he'd already been cooped up in the DEO for days now and training since then. Maybe she could help in some way, she thought before leaving the office.
Anais walked down the street before the hospital site, adjusting her clothes and hair since she'd basically sped there from CatCo. As she approached the site, she began to smell the after scent of burnt rubber and metal, along with the horrible sight of the crumbled hospital.
"Oh, what happened here?" She stopped in front of the yellow tape keeping civilians away.
"Aliens happened," a familiar voice answered. Anais whipped her head to the right and saw Lena Luthor approaching her.
"Miss Luthor," Anais smiled politely, "I didn't expect to see you here."
"Yeah," Lena nodded. "No one expects to see a Luthor at accident sites unless they caused it." There was a brief moment of silence before she added, "And just so we're clear, I didn't cause this."
"I didn't think you did," Anais clarified for the woman's sake. "So what is Miss Luthor doing here, though?"
"Please, it's just Lena, I told you," the black-haired woman sighed. "And I was one of the investors of this building. It was brand new when it was destroyed."
"Millions of dollars lost, I assume," Anais gazed at the crumbled building. She could still see some leftover melted medical equipment peeking from under the walls.
"Oh please, it's not about the money," Lena set her hands on her hips. "This building was built because the first hospital was getting overcrowded. Now the children that did survive this, had to return to the first hospital."
Anais pulled her camera in front of her eyes and snapped a picture. "What happened to the building?"
"Your reporter hasn't come to you yet?" Lena nodded to the young CatCo. Reporter talking to a cop at the moment.
"Nope, I just got here, remember?"
"Well, we don't know much but we assume it was aliens judging by the mass strength of whatever hit the walls. Plus, some of the records from the kids say they saw hooded people."
"Ah," Anais started walking a bit to get better angles of the building. "Which could mean it was a regular human crime scene."
"But they didn't steal anything," Lena countered. "They just came in to destroy."
"Well, sometimes people don't need reasons to do something," Anais lowered her camera to see Lena giving her a look. "What?"
"I'm assuming you're like Kara in that you both share pro-alien opinions," Lena crossed her arms.
Anais gave a shrug of her shoulders. "Well, what's wrong with that?"
"Nothing. Everyone's entitled to their opinions and thoughts," Lena looked ahead at the building again.
"It's so refreshing meeting someone like you," Anais chuckled. She felt her phone buzzing and picked it out from her pocket. "Oh, gotta go. It was nice seeing you, though. Wouldn't mind doing this again."
Surprise etched across Lena's face, making her dark eyebrows simultaneously raise. "Really?"
Anaís paused after taking another picture to see Lena's expression. "What?"
Lena smiled warmly. "Not a lot of people would say that. In fact, I don't think I've ever heard that."
"You're nice and you're badass, so...yeah, I'd like to see you around," Anaís chuckled. "You're doing what I'm doing and, as I've said, I admire that."
Lena's smile widened, clearly beaming at the chance of a second friend. She hadn't admitted it but she liked to believe she was friends with Kara Danvers too. "Okay then, you're welcome at L-Corp anytime."
"Cool," Anaís beamed then. "Now I gotta run for real. See you around." She hurried past Lena to get going because if she wasn't at the DEO in the next five minutes, she was sure Arun would come for her himself.
~0~
"Again!" Arun shouted the order without hesitance.
A blonde speedster whipped past him in circles, repeatedly, until she would come to a stop and attempt to throw a lightning bolt she was meant to create during her run. Just as Anaís was about to throw her bolt, it shattered in her palms..
"Dammit!" she growled and glanced back at Arun who stood at the end of the room with his hands behind his back and no emotion on his face.
"Again!" he simply commanded once more.
She sucked in a breath and took off again. She'd been doing this for more than an hour now with no such luck. Arun silently watched as she sped in circles - a long circle too - to see exactly where she was going wrong. He never felt the visitors coming into the room, much less Anaís.
"Woah, that is awe and some!" Mon-El's cheer startled Anaís and caused the speedster to trip over her own feet. She came hurtling into a wall, face first. She groaned and turned on her back to glare at Mon-El then Arun and Winn for not warning her.
"Two things," Winn made a motion for Mon-El to listen, the latter even nodding his head to show him that he was indeed listening. "One: never sneak up on a speedster, especially when she's throwing lightning. And two: it's just 'awesome'. You got to put those two words together and you'll be golden."
"Awesome," Mon-El tested the word out and felt like it did sound better put together. He then looked over to Anaís who was getting back on her feet. "And sorry. Just thought that whole…" His fingers wiggled in the air as he attempted to mimic what she'd been doing, "...the whole lightning thing was cool…"
"You taught him the word 'cool' already?" Anaís dusted her legs off. Winn grinned. "Of course you did."
"If you three are finished talking, Anaís has a lot more practice to do," Arun spoke up with an air of annoyance. He knew well that they had a new alien amongst the DEO but he hadn't actually talked to Mon-El.
"Are you the other Solista?" Mon-El asked, though he was sure of the answer by the looks of his beam. "You got the whole lightning thing down, I assume?"
"Since I was a teenager. Child's play, really," Arun said plainly, shooting Anaís a look that meant to point out she was extremely behind. For that, Anaís looked down.
"W-well, I mean, it is lightning we're talking about," Winn purposely glanced at Anaís in hopes of lifting her spirits. "It takes a while to practice when it's the first try. I-I'm assuming."
Anaís smiled softly at him. She appreciated his attempt to help her out…until she remembered what he was doing with her suit.
"Yes, when we're teenagers," Arun brokered the silence without realizing it. "But Anaís is twenty three now."
"Okay, can we just call it a day with the training?" Anaís decided it was for the better lest Arun wanted a lightning bolt thrown at him instead of the practice dummy. "I'll continue tomorrow."
"Your call," Arun shrugged. "You wanna go get lunch?"
"No, I can't. Supergirl's waiting for me. We have a lead on that dead alien we found in the back of a car."
"Alright then, until tomorrow," Arun said and started heading out. He suddenly stopped though by the doorway and glanced back. "Oh, and Winn, the suit seems to be working fine right now." He made a gesture at Anaís' regular DEO suit she was wearing. "Have you finished mending it?"
"Nope," Winn replied without a second thought, even wearing that big smile Anaís was beginning to hate. "Still got kinks to figure out."
Arun nodded and walked out of the room.
"It doesn't have any kinks!" Anaís shouted after he was fully gone. "You're just purposely keeping it away from me!"
"Me? What?" His pretense sarcasm only made her even more mad. "Never."
"I'll kill you," Anaís warned but all Winn did was ask Mon-El if he wanted to continue practicing. With a shake of her head, she left the room and went to find Alex and Supergirl in the control room. "Anything on our alien perp?" Anaís stopped by them.
"Yes, actually," Kara motioned to Alex, "Alex was just telling me what the lab found."
"The thorn found in the dead body is from a Brevakk. Some sort of biological defense mechanism," Alex explained. "So, yeah, that's new and terrifying."
"Don't suppose there's any ideas where we can find him?" Anaís tried her luck.
"Turns out there's exactly one Brevakk registered in National City for the President's Alien Amnesty Act," Alex moved on over to an empty computer. She pulled up the profile of said alien. "And we got the address ready to go."
"Alright, so what's our first step?" Anaís looked between the more experienced women.
"It's just a check out, so...I think we're good," Alex's words surprised both aliens. "I got someone in mind I'll take."
"Are you sure?" Kara raised an eyebrow.
"Yeah, yeah, don't worry," Alex waved her off, really smiling like she meant it. "She's good, trust me." And with that cryptic description, she left.
"You want to train, then?" Kara asked Anaís once they were on their own. Anaís groaned and covered her face. "What?" Kara looked around in case anyone knew what she said wrong.
"I just finished a round with Arun and I didn't get it right."
"You mean the lightning bolt thing?"
"Yes!"
"When we agreed that he would train me, I didn't know Arun would be one of those uptight 24/7 trainers!"
Kara chuckled.
"And he won't get off my back for my pathetic attempts to create and throw a lightning bolt!"
"Don't get so worked up about it, remember how long Barry said it took him?"
"Yeah, but... he's a metahuman and I'm an alien. It's in my biology to get it!" Anaís exclaimed particularly loud enough to draw some attention.
Kara, in particular, was giving her a look. "Some funny words you used there." Anaís dropped her hands to her sides and looked back. "Sounds like something Arun would say." She'd come to learn that Arun's 'words of encouragement' were not so light. They seemed like backhanded insults instead.
"Well, he kind of did, and he's right. It's in my biology to get it and I'm taking longer than a kid would!"
"Okay, maybe you need to reel it back a little," Kara brought Anaís to the side so they could speak better. "You may be a speedster with incredible strength but you still need practice and you know that. I know you know that."
"Yeah, I know…" Anaís sighed.
"Then why don't you let Arun know that? He's the one that needs to reel it back a lot more." Kara suspected Arun was the one putting more pressure on things than Anaís really thought. "He's a hard coach, and maybe a good one, but a hard one nonetheless. He wants you to do exactly what he did and that's not gonna happen."
"Because I'm only half a Solista?"
"No, because you're you and you're different. Everyone is. So c'mon, let's go train nice and easy."
Anaís finally agreed and followed Kara to their training room meant just for them. They trained for about an hour before J'onn called them back to the control room. Alex had returned but not with good news. Their lead on the dead alien had been whisked away by a group of men in a suspicious can.
"Do we know who the men in the van were?" J'onn asked Alex, and the woman shook her head.
"No. But these weren't low-rent thugs. They were definitely combat-trained. They mean business."
"So do we. Or have you forgotten about that?" J'onn's snark startled all three women.
"Hey, what's with the grumpy?" Alex finally noted. "Today and yesterday. Is everything all right, J'onn?"
"I appreciate the concern, but I assure you, I'm fine."
"Don't make us pout," Alex nodded to Kara beside her.
"They're surprisingly good at it," Anaís admitted being victim to it a couple of times.
J'onn knew they would never let it be so it was better to get it out in the open. "I am not the last Green Martian. There is another. Her name is M'gann. Megan."
"It's a miracle, J'onn," Kara's eyes widened.
"I met her at that alien bar Alex spoke of. We talked, but... I think I made a mistake."
"Why do you say that?" Anaís asked. "What happened?"
"I offered to merge with her in the Martian way."
"But you guys just met…" Kara trailed off, thinking of something else.
"Psychically, Kara. The bond is the traditional Martian way of communicating. We...we link minds, share dreams, emotions, memories. We kept no secrets from one another. Imagine a world without ego, selfishness. Without... lies."
"That sounds beautiful."
"She didn't seem to think so. The moment I talked about it, she left. I am grateful to have you all in my life. I truly am. But with Martians, it's... It's different. It's deeper. Deeper than talking. Fuller. With her, there's a chance for me to live how I was meant to live."
Of course everyone there understood.
"Just tell her that," Alex encouraged him to go for a second attempt. "Why don't you try apologizing?"
J'onn seemed to be encouraged enough.
The night brought Alex and detective Sawyer to an illegal fight club that ended up in catastrophe. Supergirl nearly had her head torn off by a large alien creature, and neither her nor the detectives had luck in capturing the ringleader of the fight club. It did, however, leave them with a new clue that could lead the DEO to capturing the culprits.
It also led to a new wave of anger inside a certain Solista.
Mon-El had just failed to conjure up heat vision on a piece of cement when Anais came storming in.
"No heat vision, no x-ray vision…" Winn was recording the results on his tablet for later study so he was startled when Anais used her own heat vision to destroy the piece of cement. "Hey!" Winn made a gesture but Anais looked far too upset to care.
"Kara nearly got hurt in an underground alien fight club and I couldn't do anything about it and do you know why!?" She came storming up to him, making him backtrack several steps. "Because I didn't have my suit so they didn't call me in for backup!"
"Is she okay, though?" Mon-El thought to ask if only to pull some of that attention off Winn for safety reasons.
"Yes, but she could've gotten hurt," Anais deeply sighed then set her glare back on Winn. "C'mon, Winn, enough is enough. Give me my suit back"
Winn was first and foremost relieved to see that anger fading because it decreased the chances of being heat visioned. "I'll do it as soon as you come clean to Kara and the others."
Anais' hands twitched in the air as she air-strangled him. "I'm gonna—" She started for him again.
Winn jumped back, throwing his hands in front of him. "If you kill me now, you'll never get your suit!"
Anais stopped in her tracks and dropped her hands. "I really hate you right now."
"Yeah, got that," Winn swallowed hard and moved away to put down his tablet. "But you also know why I'm doing this."
Mon-El cleared his throat to remind the two of his presence. "Can I offer my help to Kara as an alternative?"
Anais briefly smiled at him. "Thanks, Mon-El, but I don't think the DEO wants to let you go out until you've finished your examinations."
"Well, I think we have," Mon-El gestured to Winn. "Right?"
"Sort of," Winn shrugged and turned to the two. He brought his fingers up to list what they knew so far of Mon-El's abilities. "No heat vision, no X-ray vision, but you're strong."
"As strong as Kara?" Mon-El curiously asked but Winn scoffed with a great big 'Ha!'
"No, not even close. No freeze breath, which is kind of a bummer, right?" Winn glanced at Anais but she was still kind of glaring at him. "Right. No flight either, but his leaping is fantastic. I'm... I'm talking about like "tall buildings in a single bound" kinda stuff. Yeah, we...we definitely have the makings of a superhero here."
"Superhero?" Mon-El repeated. "Is that what Kara's called?"
"Yeah. You know, you...you go out there, you fight crime, save people, wear a costume…"
"Yup," Anais crossed her hands. "I'm almost there…"
"Speaking of going out there, I'm, uh... I'm going kind of crazy in here," Mon-El admitted. "I could really use some fresh air."
"Yeah, you heard Hank. I mean, you got to stay here at the DEO."
"You know, I'll bet if I were outside, I could fly like Kara and you, Anais," Mon-El put on his best smile for the blonde.
But before Anais could say anything, Winn cut in. "Nice try, buddy. No, we got to stay here. Them's the rules. I mean, I'm new here. I'm trying to make a good impression."
"Failed!" Anais dramatically exclaimed, much to his annoyance. And because she saw his annoyance, she decided to go on ahead and make it worse. Screw being an adult, she shamelessly thought. "And you know what, Mon-El? I'll take you out."
Mon-El looked deeply surprised at the easy give in. "You will?"
Even Winn had the same reaction. "You will?"
"Yup!" Anais grinned from side to side. "I don't think it'll do any harm. But you gotta listen to me, alright?"
Mon-El was now almost grinning like Anais was. "Of course!"
"Anais y-y-you can't do that," Winn started wagging his finger, but by that point it was too late. "You're gonna get in trouble!"
"Feel free to join us, if you're so worried," Anais patted his arm.
"But I - but we can't!" Winn practically shouted in the room while Anais and Mon-El started leaving. He tried to stay put and just let the two aliens figure it out on their own how big of a mistake this would be, but…
He scrunched his face. "Damn you, Anais Allen-Mjorkland. I'm so weak." And he took off to catch up with them.
Mon-El didn't know anything about Earth but that didn't stop him from learning in one night. Especially when Anais introduced him to the cellphone.
"I gotta get me one of these!" Mon-El laughed after Anais showed him the search engine for bars.
"I'm sure we can arrange that," Anais tucked her phone into her back pocket and led the way to the bar across the street. "Maybe a small computer for the time being. Or a tablet!"
"You can't make promises like that," Winn trailed behind her, still unable to believe she was pulling this off.
"It's a computer with restricted WiFi," she reminded him that it wasn't a big deal. "Now let loose and have some fun, if you're capable of that anyways."
Winn stopped just by the doorway with a look of offence. "Excuse me?"
Anais smirked with Mon-El. They both knew they'd gotten him now.
"You heard me," Anais crossed her arms and watched as Mon-El went to open the doors for them. "Can you have some fun, Winn Schott?"
"And I continue to be weak," Winn scrunched his face in defeat while Anais yanked him inside the bar.
"Did I ever mention you're my absolute favorite alien in the whole DEO?" Mon-El said to Anais, making the woman laugh. "You are! Totally are!"
Winn did not agree with the sentiment and he definitely did not agree when they somehow found their way to the bar counter. Mon-El was introduced to human alcohol very quickly and he learned that it tasted really good. Anais monitored how much he drank but did let him experiment how much he could tolerate. She figured if anything went wrong she could speed him out of there in less than a second. But so far, he just seemed intent on mingling with the other humans and discovering what human men do for fun.
"Why do you guys like to arm wrestle so much?" Anais wondered out loud and reached for her own drink on the counter. Mon-El had just defeated his third opponent.
"He's cheating," Winn's flat tone made Anais laugh.
"Then go stop him or...have a drink and join him," Anais slid his untouched drink to him. "You can watch him while you're closer."
Winn knew his options were very limited here, and so with a small glare he picked his drink up and got up from his stool. He could hear Anais's second round of laughter while he walked away. She would not win forever, he thought.
Anais took refuge at the bar counter with the only other female in that place. As the hours ticked by, all the other customers started getting more and more annoying, in Anais' perspective. Mon-El had gone past arm wrestling and moved on to good old fashioned drinking challenges, most notably beer pong. But, to his credit, he had somehow gotten Winn to join in.
"Amazing," she huffed while she went for another drink. The two men ended up becoming more buddies than they had been earlier. Now she had become the third wheel. "Men are idiots."
"Tell me about it," the bartender mused when she walked by Anais.
Anais soon learned that, just like herself and Kara, Mon-El could actually not get drunk. However, Winn most definitely could. While they entered a series of drinking games, somehow Winn ended up winning most of them.
"Oh my God, he's a drinker," Anais said with a laugh as she and Mon-El watched Winn go at it against another fellow bar customer. They had a line of shots they needed to get through.
"So, you don't get drunk here?" Mon-El was curious as he gazed at his newly filled cup of beer.
"The earth stuff isn't strong enough for you guys," Anais shrugged, crossing her arms.
Mon-El picked up on her word choice and glanced at her. "How about you?"
"I'm half human, Mon-El. I don't get granted all the perks of a Solista. Don't get me wrong, it takes me way longer to get drunk than an average human but in the end, I can still get drunk."
"Have you ever tested the theory out of how many glasses it takes?" Mon-El offered her his glass of beer, making her laugh.
"My parents would kill me," she said, pushing his glass back to him. "They're humans and they don't really care how alien I am. I cannot drink when I'm supposed to be on business matters."
"I know I'm not from here but is this business?" Mon-El gestured towards the scene. Winn had just won another round of shots.
A smirk crossed Anais' face. "My business, anyways." It was Mon-El's turn to laugh.
A short time later, Mon-El had entered another wrestling match. He'd won every single one but the last man he went up again ended up with a broken elbow.
The man, angry, tried punching Mon-El but then broke his hand as well. His buddy went to fight Mon-El for support yet the Daxamite easily won as well with a simple 'push'. The human man crashed into a table behind them.
Mon-El was overly surprised with his strength but the other men had grown furious.
"Time to go!" Anais hopped off her stool after the strangers had met face to face with a glass table — another accident on Mon-El's part. She scurried through the group - possibly using her alien strength to push some of the men away - and got her two idiots out of there.
By the Anais returned home, she expected to find a dark apartment most certainly not Kara wide awake in the living room.
"Where were you?" Kara noticed Anais' disheveled appearance.
"One could say babysitting...or one could say proving a point," Anais fixed herself and released a deep breath. "Beginning to think my plan backfired and it was more of the first then the latter."
Kara couldn't and honestly didn't want to try and understand what all that meant. There were more pressing matters to deal with anyways.
"What are you doing up so late anyways?" Anais pulled her jacket off and headed for the couch chair. "I thought Kara Danvers always has a timely bedtime set up." Kara playfully rolled her eyes but even the playfulness faded very quickly. Anais noticed it and knew that the Kryptonian was worried and/or upset. "Kara, what is it?"
Kara hesitated to speak but after a moment of thinking, she figured it was better Anais knew now in case something happened later.
Veronica Sinclair - aka Roulette - was a formidable human enemy to the DEO. She proved herself last night when Supergirl made a visit to her and Sinclair only retaliated with confident words knowing she would not be defeated that night.
Kara now relayed her visit to J'onn, Alex and Anais (again). "I should've heat vision'd that stupid champagne glass out of her hand," Kara balled her fists on her sides.
"That's what she wanted," Anais offered a different perspective on the matter. She'd gotten over her anger last night when Kara had told her. "Supergirl heat visions local human and the media has a field day with that."
Kara gave her points on that, but it didn't stop her from wishing she could've used her heat vision. "I mean, do you think Sinclair is right about this? That she's the only one who can offer something to aliens?"
"Not a chance," Alex answered instantly.
"But then how do you stop them from letting themselves be used and exploited?"
"By offering something more powerful than fear," J'onn settled things and glanced at Winn at his desk. "Winn?"
"Nothing!" The man in question startled awake — his hand holding an ice bag on the side of his slipped and he nearly hit his head on the desk. "I'm not hungover! You're the one being defensive!"
Anais barely hid her smile from the others while J'onn approached a hungover Winn.
"Agent Schott—"
"S-sir, yes, s-sir!" Winn dangled a hand at the front of his forehead. "Er, Mon-El is doing great, by the way. He's here in the DEO. He's here. Did you know his heart is on the other side?"
J'onn gave a nod of his head. "That's absolutely fascinating. You know, the DEO received reports this morning of a six-foot alien attacking two men in a bar last night."
Anais' own smile faded upon learning that.
"The news is so very violent these days…" Winn briefly said as he slowly turned his chair back to his desk.
"Apparently this alien had a 5'2" sidekick—"
Winn jumped out of his chair, leaving it to spin from the force just to shout, "I am 5'9!"
"No, wait," Anais slid in between the two men with her hands raised in front of her, "This one's on me. I'm the one who took Mon-El out. Winn actually tried stopping me several times."
"Anais, why'd you do that?" Alex moved forwards with the same questionable face as J'onn.
"Because sometimes I'm an idiot," Anais answered with the simplest of shrugs. "But this was totally on me."
"You know better," J'onn snapped unexpectedly. "Everything we do is under a microscope. We work so hard to make humans trust us. All it takes is for one alien to ruin it for all of us."
Anais' eyes had slowly widened while J'onn scolded her. "I-I didn't mean to do that…"
"You should've thought about it!"
Alex exchanged looks with Kara, both agreeing J'onn was projecting his fight with M'gann on Anais. "J'onn, why don't we go talk somewhere else," Alex held onto his arm and persuaded him to walk with her.
"I'm really sorry," Anais said to Kara and Winn afterwards. "I wasn't meaning to do that. I was just...I was mad at you," she made a languid gesture at Winn, which didn't surprise him. "And I have to apologize to Mon-El too."
As she left, Kara briefly stopped by Winn to ask, "What's she mad at you for?"
"It's...it's just better if I hold off on that," Winn made the call thinking Anais would want to explain it herself once she got the courage to actually accept that CADMUS was looking into her.
~ 0 ~
Kara caught up with Anais in the hallway, and while Anais didn't exactly say why she was mad with Winn, Kara got the jist that it'd been a long argument now.
Anais led the way into Mon-El's training room where the man was currently doing his training. When he saw Kara, he assumed he was in trouble for the previous night.
"I'm sorry," he immediately said but Anais raised a hand to stop him.
"You're good, I'm the one who screwed up."
Mon-El blinked. "You were?"
"Yes," Anais sighed. "I was basically trying to stick it to Winn and I ended up using you. It was very wrong of me."
"Well…" Mon-El bobbed his head, "I've done worse, believe me. But this has helped me realize something neither of you told me about." Anais exchanged a glance with Kara, both confused of what he meant. "Hank told me I needed to stay here because it wasn't safe. But he didn't mean for me. He meant it wasn't safe for humans. From me."
"Listen, we've all been through that," Anais spoke up first and received an agreeing 'mhm' from Kara beside her. "I was taken in by human parents when I was a kid and just got my freedom a couple months ago. The government didn't want to let me out because they were afraid I'd hurt someone."
"After I first got to Earth, I went to my junior prom and Scott Klein asked me to dance. I stepped on his foot and I broke three of his toes," Kara shared her embarrassing yet meaningful story. "It's just gonna take some time to get used to having these abilities and...and living in this world."
Mon-El appreciated both women trying to make him feel better and even showing sympathy for him, but he was especially thankful towards Kara considering their respective backgrounds. "I know it's not easy for you to be nice to me, Kara. Where I'm from and all."
"That's not why I've been standoffish. And don't say I haven't been," Kara sighed and dug her hands into her back pockets. "My parents gave me so much. And I was so loved. My dad was a scientist and my mom fought for justice. They were proud, strong people. Good Kryptonians and even better parents. And that's the way I want to remember them."
"And why shouldn't you?"
"Because...they weren't perfect. And no matter how smart they were, or how hard they tried, they couldn't save us."
"Yeah, you never met my parents. They weren't exactly role models," Mon-El shook his head.
"But mine saw the end of the world coming, and didn't do anything about it!"
"Hey, it's not...it's not your parents' fault. It's not even Krypton's fault. Okay, we shared a star, that's all. I promise that I will do as I'm told from now on."
"And I promise not to be a manipulative bitch," Anais raised her hand but then pointed a warning finger at Mon-El. "Don't repeat that."
"Repeat what?" Mon-El blinked with genuine oblivion. He wasn't up to speed with curse words yet. "Anyways, I heard you survived Draaga." Kara nodded. "I once saw him fight on Warworld when I was, uh, guarding the royal family. Draaga took a blade to the right leg. It hit a nerve cluster. He's favored his left ever since."
The new piece of information was enlightening for Kara. "Thank you."
A couple hours later, the group got word that J'onn was missing. The only known person who'd seen him was M'gann and since she hadn't shown up for her shift it led Alex to conclude J'onn was taken by M'gann's boss: Sinclair.
"The fightclub was cleared out," Supergirl returned to the DEO very put out from her failed trip. "It's like it was never there."
"And there's no sign of where they went?" Anais curiously asked since she'd once again been planted at a chair instead of the field.
"No," Supergirl crossed her arms and thought about it for a minute.
"Okay, so where are we going to find them now?" Alex leaned against a table, trying not to look so frustrated even if she was.
"I bet that fight club has a list of recurring invitees and I think we may know one invitee in particular," Supergirl's suggestion made Anais jump from her chair.
"I'm coming! It involves no actual fighting therefore no need for super suit!"
She practically led the way to Lena's office. Kara understood her since Anais hadn't come out to the field in weeks now. She'd feel antsy too if she was cooped up (which then led Kara to feel even more sympathy for Mon-El).
"Excuse me, you can't go in there!" Lena's assistant failed to stop Anais and Kara from barging into Lena's office. "I swear I just blinked and they got right past me!" the poor woman did her best to explain to Lena before she was fired.
Lena, for her matter, was quite surprised at the sight.
"Lena, I'm sorry," Kara apologized first and foremost. "We just need to talk to you."
"Not her fault," Anais jerked a thumb at the secretary.
Lena's calm smile was a sight of relief for the two aliens. "Jess, will you make a note downstairs that Kara Danvers and Anais Allen are to be shown in right away whenever possible?"
Jess was surprised but since it meant she wasn't going to be fired she dutifully noted it and hurried out of the office.
"Woah, thanks," Anais beamed.
"So, how can I help?" Lena gestured for them to come sit down.
"We think a friend of mine has gotten involved in something shady," Kara's excuse was met with a light scoff from Lena. "It's an actual friend, we swear. And he's missing."
Lena got serious fast and nodded for her to continue.
"Do you know of a woman named Veronica Sinclair? She caters to people in your, um, your circles. Tight dresses, tattoos like Lisbeth Salander?"
Lena pursed her lips and played with a pen on her desk. "Yeah, I know Roulette. We went to boarding school together. I never liked her."
"We share the sentiment," Anais nodded. "We need to find her. And since her little fight clubs are mobile, we need to know where she's holding the next fight."
Lena seemed at a cross of amusement and impression. "And you assume I'm on the invite list?"
"Your last name is pretty famous," Anais shrugged.
"We wouldn't ask if we had any other option," Kara promised Lena as a last means to get her to talk.
Luckily for them, Lena was a smart, kind woman. "I'm a Luthor, of course I'm invited to her little pop-up. Not that I'm interested in her type of entertainment." She wrote down the location of the next fight club and handed it to Kara.
"Thank you. We owe you, big time," Kara tucked the paper into her purse and stood up with Anais.
"Not at all. I know you'll be there for me when the time comes," Lena offered them a genuine, friendly smile.
Together with the DEO, J'onn and even M'gann, Supergirl managed to put an end to the fight club with minimal injuries. Mon-El's tip about the Draaga came in handy to put the creature down for a bit. She was even more relieved to see J'onn patch things up with M'gann because it meant J'onn would finally have some peace.
This time Kara was the one to get home to find Anais still awake. Of course Kara wasn't surprised since Anais wanted to know the outcomes of the fight club.
"I would've stayed at the DEO but figured there was no use for me anyways," Anais shrugged at the counter where she was having a drink. "Update: I still can't do the stupid lightning bolt trick. I'm considering opening a stupid breach to find my young adoptive Dad for another training session because it is not going well."
"Arun's still too hard?" Kara assumed since Anais hadn't talked about him in a while.
"He expects too much from me," Anais sighed. "But what happened with Sinclair? Is she done for good now?"
"No," Kara ruefully answered. "Alex says Maggie got the orders to let Sinclair go and there's nothing we can do about it, not even the DEO."
"We'll get her one day," Anais assured. "So how come you're coming back late, then?"
"I…" Kara removed her glasses and set them on the counter, "...stopped by Mon-El's room to talk to him."
"What about?" Anais got up from the stool and went into the cupboards for some more wine.
"I offered to take him under my wing, basically, and show him around the city for real now."
"Yeah, because I totally screwed that up," Anais cringed at the reminder and pulled two glasses from the counter. "And the DEO is going to let you do that?"
"Yup, it's sort of what I did with you in the beginning, remember?"
"How could I forget!"
Kara smiled. "I think it'll do him some good. Plus, I can get him a job at CatCo. Maybe not as a reporter but somewhere there should be good."
"Speaking of," Anais returned to the counter with two glasses of red wine, "Your editor called about that new article you sent in. Apparently he expects your rewrite tomorrow morning."
"Mm," Kara sipped some of her wine. "May have sent him a new one earlier at his e-mail which I got off from James."
"Taking initiative," Anais pointed. "Very good. Look at you, Kara Danvers, having all your crap together. I'm jealous."
Kara chuckled and lowered her glass to the counter. "Well, maybe you can unburden yourself a little bit by telling me what you and Winn are arguing about."
"Ooh, smooth," Anais commended Kara for her easy transition but was still reluctant to go into detail about her disagreement. "But it's nothing, and you shouldn't worry about it."
"I worry when my friends aren't okay. Right now, it looks like you're not okay, so...tell me. Please?"
Anais released a small sigh. "I mean, I just don't want it to be made into a bigger deal than it is...just like Winn made it."
"Well, what is it?"
Anais put her wine glass down and prepared to spill the truth. Who knows, maybe it would be better for her. "CADMUS sent a message for me at the DEO." Kara's confused expression implied she hadn't heard that from anyone at the DEO. "Yeah, Winn caught it and showed it to me instead. Apparently, they want to use me as a fuel for their growing army. Whether or not I want to join them is not really up for debate in their perspective. They made it very clear that they were not above taking me dead."
"Oh my god," Kara said, horrified. "So how does this go to you getting mad at Winn?"
"Because he told me to tell you guys and I said no so instead of nagging me to tell you the truth, he is keeping my suit hostage until I decide to tell you the truth."
"Why wouldn't you want to tell us anything?"
"Because you guys would overreacting and keep me on lock-down like Mon-El!"
"If it was to keep you safe then why wouldn't you?"
"Because I just got my freedom, Kara. I don't want to lose it again." Anais picked up her glass but at first glance she could tell Kara was putting more thought into the situation.
"Maybe Winn's making the right call in keeping you out of the field. The less you're out there, the less chances CADMUS will find you or hurt you."
"No ma'am, not you too," Anais shook her head. "I've spent the better part of my life in seclusion. I'm not doing it again."
Kara was not aiming to argue like Anais and Winn. She would rather find an alternative that would benefit both sides. Making peace was her job, after all.
