Super nerdy of me but like,,, I like Wings of Fire,,, and I like making fictional languages,,,,,,, what is stopping me from making cool dragon languages hmmmmmm
There are some things to worry about like “oh how would all the characters understand each other since different tribes prob had different languagesss” but it wouldn’t be much of a stretch to think there was some sort of prestige language,,, maybe the sky wing language (maybe call it sky-speak?) was the language cuz i would assume they traded with most tribes
I love worldbuilding and languages so I might think about this more and try to flesh out the dynamics of all the languagesss

ive got a variety of noises for you to get my attention with, like cotton, candy, mal, or kim. most of the time if people call me something enough I'll start going by it, so be creative or I'm sending you to the bone shucking factory
i mainly use they/them, it/its, and she/her but I also have a list of neos so long i keep forgetting them. im a boy but im nonbinary but im the prettiest princess at the party bu–
i have a lot of ever-changing hyperfixations, so I'm not gonna list them, but my special interests (hyperfixations that have lasted over a year) are; Mega Man, Don't Starve, Bugsnax, Act! Addict! Actors!, Wings of Fire, Conlangs (i speak toki pona :D), and Linguistics in general!
im an adult you can be weird now, just know i wont post it publically bc there's no age limit on my blog. 90% of the stuff i say online are lies anyways so it's not like you can find me

Hey Bonefall! Got a wide and weird variety of Clanmew things to share/ask about! Spent some time translating a mix of straight OCs and also clangen cats, and thus I’ve got some names to show off and also a varied list of words I ran into a lack of.
Cherryclaw - Obeorussyskat
Cherry leaves who will unsheathe claws
Also known as Sookie, this is the warrior name I’ve given to my cat. Name is coming from cherry, making it specifically the leaves of the cherry tree since she’s a beautiful tortie, and then yskat from the term for unsheathing claws, as I wanted a more active term than just referring to the body part. If I’m getting how nicknames work right, I think a suitable nickname would be Obekat, but you might notice a better one.
This also turned up a word I think would be helpful - what would be the term for specifically leaves which have fallen to the ground in leaffall? Like, piles of rustling leaves on the ground. I think that’d fall a lot closer to what I was getting at.
Cranestar - Bwabwashai
Egret star / Cranelight / Egret who shines
Previously known as Bwabwashemi, this one is using the egret as a reasonably similar bird which had a word in the lexicon.
Oakbranch - Byochchobyrr
Oak tree branch
This one was a big chunk of time and turned up a decent chunk of words desired, as Oakbranch is a cleric and fathers a litter of kittens with Cranestar and thus I decided to dabble in dishonour names with him, though it would be given by a different leader likely.
I ended up wanting the general meaning of “tree branch dead from breaking a vow”, so using Babechok in place of the prefix and using a term for a broken vow as the suffix - ideally a term for specifically the cleric vow, but a general promise would work too. Thus, under this I was wondering what the words for promise/vow, honourable, broken vow, forbidden, and dishonourable would be. (Don’t worry I’m gonna add a bullet list at the end)
Nightfall - Mebwynfe
Vesper fall
Nickname attempt Mebfe? This is one of my oldest cats created, along with her sister following.
Moonamber - Shomaogi
Moon resin
Nickname attempt Shogi? She’s a cleric and sisters with Nightfall.
Batwing - Shi’poafafa
Noctule (biggest bat named) who fluttered
Nickname attempt Shifa? This one also turned up a word request- the Lexicon has a word for specifically a feathered wing, but not the skin wings of bats - what would that be? I’m actually really happy with what I ended up with, but it feels like a gap which should be considered.
Following are more rapid-fire clangen names, and then a list of words from above and this list which I couldn’t find.
Blizzardhare - Os’hauooyywaya - blizzard hare
Cressmark - Shushchafakonpen - stream plant patch fur patch
Fawnstripe - Myaaseek - baby deer long thick stripe
Ghostdazzle - Kooskepshayu - ghost lights source
Riversong - Ssbassoowamew - River lullaby
Spruceneedle - Fiffnyyp - Douglass fir pine needle
Streakstar - Seekshai - long thick stripe star
Swampdusk - Kolpfawmun - swamp dusk
Talonrump - Kachswash - claw tail
Beavertuft - Morfafaofa - general mustelids (otter) tuft of hair
Missing words which I think are plausible for the base region from this set - Watercress, Mark, Rump, Talon
Final List of Words I was Missing
A bat’s wing
Leaflitter / fallen leaves on the ground in fall
Honourable
Dishonourable
Vow / promise
Broken vow / promise
Watercress
Mark
Rump
Talon
Thanks for making up such an interesting conlang, I had a great time poking through the lexicon and naming cats.
Oh my god you even made a list organizing all your requests I love you so much you have no idea
I need to update Yet Another masterpost (And we just got the Lexicon up to date!) so let me hook you up to all the terms you need;
Types of Wings
There are a LOT of words for specific types of wing in Clanmew, related to the fact Clanmew is a language of obligate carnivores and active hunters. There isn't just "Flying," there are a LOT of types of "flight" and each wing produces a very different kind of rapid movement.
Someday I will also expand on the types of Beof, feathered wings.
Bat wing, has a bit of a "tragic" connotation if not used in the context of a living bat, as dead "songbirds" are a very sad thing to Clan cats = Pafr
Hard, outside wing of some insects, such as beetles, "Shield" = Bakbur
Clear, iridescent flight wing of insects, "Elytra" = Kaskr
Beautiful, patterned wing of a butterfly or moth, "painted" by StarClan. Has a holy connotation = Wesk
Pectoral fin of a fish, NOT the tail-fin, the "arm" wing = Sseo
Values
Here's honor-related terms, in order of least insulting to most insulting.
Honor = Kurruar To say something is honorable (good thing), the suffix -wang is appended. Kurruarwang. Honorness. To negate, the prefix Nyar is applied. Nyarkurruarwang, Not-Honor-Ness. You can come back from dishonor, it's the politest way to phrase that someone has not been acting in line with the value of Honor.
Beastliness, gauchness, lacking in good taste = Ragywar This is usually applied to taste, meaning a cat who will eat raw meat or bite through their tunnelbuns, but it could also be used in a context meaning that the cat acts like an "animal." Driven by lesser instincts.
Cannibalism/Eats its own young/Acting in extreme self-interest = Mwyrgna This is the lowest kind of NATURAL evil... but still natural. It's the evil of cuckoo birds, frightened animals that eat their own young, killing out of self-interest. VERY serious insult.
Unnatural Evil/Cruelty/Sadism = Yaonyyw This is not something that cuckoo birds are even capable of. It's unnatural evil. It's pleasure at seeing another thing suffer, for no other reason than to see it in pain. It's what Clan cats think humans do when they cut the claws off their kittypets. It's unspeakable, but rare.
And on vows,
Promise = Minki NOT a holy vow. Just one you make between people. Also can be used to mean "reliable," "Capable of keeping promises."
Vow/Oath = Shemiyyo A sacred promise, one you make on authority of your holy name. VERY few things are vows of this level-- the most common vow to make is the one you do during your Warrior Name Ceremony, making an oath to uphold the code.
ONES I HAVE ON-HAND
I answered this ask a while back which includes the word for "talon," Chuag, the unretractable claw of a non-feline animal.
I also answered this one for beavers after you'd already sent this, beavers are actually England-compliant, surprisingly
Fallenleaf's name is over here, step-by-step walking through its etymology even! Her name in Clanmew, Wowaruss is basically "Leaf Litter," but literally "Beneathleaf," the fallen layer of leaves in a forest.
CRESS
THREE types of Cress. As a treat. Any of these can translate to cress if you'd like, or the alternate translations I'm including.
Watercress (Nasturtium officinale) = Qwerru From Duck + Leaf, because this is a favorite fodder of ducks and geese. VERY unhealthy for cats, doesn't cause instant poisoning but WILL lead to kidney stones if eaten a lot. Thankfully, it also tastes Bad.
Stune (Cardamine hirsuta) = Berrsha Also called "Hairy Bittercress" in English, used as a medicinal herb. Widespread, very common, and seen in early Spring which can make it very useful for Clerics running low on other medicines. "Stune" comes from Old English btw. it's an archaic name for this plant but I do what i want. Language is an illusion and so are pants.
Rocket (Barbarea vulgaris) = Eberr Called "Bitter Wintercress" or "Yellow Rocket" in English, a much better version of stune. Pops up in abundant, cheerful flowers, hence the English name. NOT EATEN; used as a poultice for treating wounds.
Everything Else
Just a couple more things of assorted flavors;
Mark = Neb A scent marker, DOESN'T JUST APPLY TO SPRAYING but, yes, that is also a neb. A kitty "kiss" is also a mark being applied.
Anointed/Anointing/Will Anoint = Kembaneb/Kembane/Kemban To intentionally leave a mark, usually of a substance that smells nice, on a living thing. Has a spiritual connotation, used in some rituals. Can be used for a metaphorical kitty kiss, if your feelings are being returned, you're being brought into a family, etc. When Frostfur taught Cloudtail how to apply makeup to his dull, white pelt, teaching him how to look 'beautiful' as if she was officially accepting him as her son-in-law, THAT can also be considered an Anointing.
Border-Marked/Border-Marking/Will Border Mark = Ssognassa/Ssognass/Ssogna There's no way to get around this. This is spraying. It is urine. They are Cats. This is specifically when you are setting a scent mark, such as that for a border.
Glyph/Written Word/Character = Karm Like a letter! It's something written down. See the Glyphs.
And... rump. Honestly I'm always super confused by this one when I see it in Clangen? Like... My brain's always trying to place what that means.
Is it like, a tuft on the lower spine? Is it the "butt button" that makes a kitty stretch their booty up when you scratch it? Is it the flank of the upper leg? Does it just mean butt cheek?? Who wants to be named BUTTCHEEK?
SO HERE. HERE'S EVERY ONE OF THOSE THINGS, YOU PICK
Spine (the entire back) = Chabak
Rump-tuft, could also apply to "pantaloon" tufts as seen on some longhaired breeds = Chaofa
Rump/Butt Zone/sensitive spot on the lower back of a cat = Chawka (Also used to describe something they have a "soft spot" or passion for)
Belly Zone/Spot that cats don't like having touched on their belly = Bowka (Also used to describe "weak point")
Upper leg/Haunch = Pwaio Sometimes translated as the "foot" suffix. When used in a name, means quick to spring or a good runner, usually outside of WindClan.
Buttcheek = Soopen Also the present-tense of "Sitting." The butt, the thing you use to sit down with.

I made the first iteration of this sona ...5? 6? years ago (I dont have amino anymore so I cant exactly check) but I remember I made them an icewing because Id only read the first arc so I thought itd be super uncommon to have an icewing as your sona. yeah right. and somehow that spiralled into me associating myself w/ cyan/light blue and purple and having all my sonas have at least one of those colors, plus me still using the username I came up with for wings of fire amino specifically. even though I dont spend that much brainpower on wof anymore, I still do think about it (considering Im still worldbuilding and conlanging for it)
anyways. heres Glaze.

i’m thinking about writing again.
I don’t really have any hobbies- most of the time when i am fronting I talk to winter, or I just. don’t do anything. It’s confusing, and difficult to navigate being a scavenger.
I don’t know where I’d start with writing. I think I’ll read my wings of fire book because I might remember what one of my wips were- I can’t recall them much.
The main issue is this scavenger’s hands hurt a lot, making it tricky to write or type. And as well as that it’s completely different than writing with webbed talons on a scroll or slate tablet. I type to winter loads but it’s not easy and often ends up I just spam emojis or pressing random letters on the keyboard.
I can’t talk out loud to use dictation either. For some reason being in the same brain means I can write and read English (usually), but I can’t speak it. I wish I could remember how to speak dragon.
Sometimes my keyboard smashes are dragon words, I’m sure. Maybe I could piece them together and katapult could make them into a conlang that hopefully resembles dragon.

Technically a very late written piece for @dragonsampersanddragons but also a fun little exploration into something very very post-Rising Dragons.
Of course, you don't actually need to know anything to read this snippet. Rather, it's just some friendship/found family vibes with dragons and a campfire thrown in. What more could you want?
(There was also no editing done and I also can't remember my conlang pronouns correctly but hopefully I recalled them properly lmao.)
There was a time before dragons, Issi knows. The dragons themselves have stories of course, and so do Issi’s people, but Issi hadn’t really been around then. She knows history is important. It’s in the scars of the land, the scars of her people, the scars of the dragons. But Issi’s never really been one to remember history, no matter how it’s told.
She leaves that for Ezra since ze is obsessed with history. Ze has a particular interest in the myths about Zeend and Desi, the first bonded pair, though Issi’s always thought that there are a lot of cooler stories than two people who just, like, travelled somewhere.
Of course, telling Ezra that is bound to lead to a rant that Issi does like to hear but also really doesn’t want to hear.
It would be a good way to distract Ezra from your cheating though, Hel points out. Issi’s dragon stretches tort neck, before placing tort head back onto tort massive paws. Tail swishing, Hel hums. I really think it would be better if you used that red card though.
Hel’s favourite colour is red. If tor had tort way, there wouldn’t be any other colour and Issi would only ever wear red. Thankfully, Issi gets some input.
“And I think,” Ezra announces, “that’s my win.” Ze places zir last card down with a flourish.
Issi frowns down at it, before sighing. “Your win,” she agrees. “Are you really not cheating?” It seems impossible for Ezra to have done so well otherwise. Ze must be cheating—or there’s magic at hand.
“I’m only cheating as much as you are,” Ezra says evenly, which… Well, considering that Issi had started cheating two rounds ago to keep up with Ezra’s skills, she’s not entirely sure how to take that. “Still, it’s getting late. I was kinda using Berin’s vision to actually see the cards for the end of that round.”
Groaning, Issi replies, “Gods, I wish I’d thought of that!”
Ezra simply laughs at her as ze gathers the cards up before packing them away. Without the cards between them, they shift so that they’re pressed against each other. It’s not really cold, not with the campfire crackling before them and their dragons helpfully protecting them from the worst of the chill.
The silence that falls over them is quiet and comforting. Issi leans against Ezra and can’t imagine any other life.
Oh shit, incoming, Hel says, tone long-suffering. Tort head is lifted but tor doesn’t seem tense at all. Considering tort tone, Issi has a fairly good idea of who’s coming. Not to mention, Berin’s heaved sigh and shifting movements indicate that the company they have incoming are likely to join them for a while.
The beings appear in a group, landing somewhat haphazardly. Two of the three manage it alright, only one stumbling upon landing. The third, however, goes whizzing through the fire, just misses hitting Ezra, and slams into Berin’s side with a yelp.
Issi doesn’t even bother hiding her laughter, letting it ring out. Ezra shakes beside her.
The hatchlings—though Issi supposes they really aren’t hatchlings anymore—don’t go far from one another. They fall over one another, batting at each other with paws and wings and tails, and the youngest one quickly makes tor home between Hel’s paws despite Hel’s stubborn refusal to look at them.
Everyone here knows the truth though—Hel has a soft spot a day flight big when it comes to hatchlings. No matter what façade tor may try to uphold, it’s a lost cause.
One of the hatchlings settles at Berin’s side, cuddled against their wing, whilst the third sits in front of Ezra and Issi like an overgrown dog. All three hatchlings are perhaps a little bit too big to be considered dog-like these days, but that doesn’t stop Issi from reaching out and scratching the hatchling’s snout.
It’s evenings like this, with Ezra and their dragons and a flickering campfire, when Issi doesn’t think her life could get any better. It feels like home, like safety, like love.
There was a time before dragons, Issi knows. But it was not Issi’s time—her time is now, with dragons roaming the skies and sharing their campfires, with love at her side and in her heart, with Hel as her bondmate and forever beside her.
Really, what better time is there to be alive?

it feels like spec bio is kinda looked down upon by people outside of it and it fucking sucks as someone who LIVES for it
yeah your dragons have six wings and rainbow fire breath, but how did this come along? what environmental pressures would drive them to have evolved this way? what is their taxonomic placement? what is their role in the food web? what is their behavior like? how much magic is involved, really? is there any horizontal gene transfer goin on? (which is a real thing btw)
if your answer is “it’s magic, I ain’t gotta explain shit” then that’s boring! I’m sorry, but that’s a non-answer! at least give implications! that’s just gonna make me have to fill in the details if you’re gonna be so lazy and not even imply any deeper answers!
not everyone cares about politics and conlangs in worldbuilding, go have fun with that if you do, but don’t make fun of spec bio while you’re at it

WoF Worldbuilding: Languages
Tumblr media
The languages of Pyrrha and Pantala! The modern Latin alphabet is the equivalent for scavenger.
Pyrrhan script is more sharp and angular, with some letters being disconnected or made of of hashes. When being written, the letters don't usually touch.
In comparison, the Pantalan language is much more curved, with looped portions that close back in on each other in a single motion. When written, the letters often touch, like in cursive.
Regardless of language, individuals may have different styles of writing. Some Pyrrhan individuals may have a connected script, while some Pantalan dragons may write with their letters disconnected (though this is extremely rare to make it to adulthood). Some angles may be more rounded, or rounded portions more angular.
Not much is known about scavenger letters, but it's though that Sky of the SkyWings could read it, the same way his friend, Wren of the Scavengers, could read and speak Pyrrhan and he himself could speak Scavenger.

I think working on fake dragon linguistic is my new obsession.
The other obsession is trying to pronounce them with my wholly unadapted human mouth afterward.
I also wonder, what kind of tongues are strong enough to use to tongue click, or use in vocalizations? Would a snake like forked tongue impact things (probably) and in what ways?

Ellera: the scorched lands Acthemy scorched the lands, cutting a long crack through it and splitting the tallest mountain of the Alta nebula, forming the forbidden pass. the place is infested by wild horned wyverns. theres a lot of gyseres in the north. the forbidden pass, a long vaguely more straight forward pass between Ellera and Aemulatus. it takes about a week and a half to travel as opposed to taking routs through the Alta Nebula mountains, though the people of Ellera call them the Darath tsi sijd or the teeth of the dread. the pass is full of creatures that makes travel a bit more difficult to travel. first of all there are horned wyverns who nest along the shear melted cliffs that  run along each side of the pass, with their sharp teeth and acidic spitting venom. but if you try to go through the mountains instead you get to deal with the mountain angelics, with their grey and tawny brown wings unlike the lighter colored wings of their stone tree cousins. They like all the angelics possess natural magic of light, healing and luck. this makes the region’s locals hostile towards them.  there are also prey creature like mountain goats, moose, deer and large birds. other animals like the snow wasset, that sleeps and grazes  most summer and hunts beneath the snow during the winter and the six-legged mountain cats called wampawas. the dark-eyed humans are known to live near the mountains. though likely hood is that they where inpart forced there sometime in the past as they live in a pocket apart from other dark-eyed humans. the scorched lands are hot, and cold and filled with magic. it is roughly the size of yellow-stone park in the united states.because the place is one of the most magic radiated areas of the ellera region a lot of locals refuse to go there because by the common belief of the region the land is cursed and innately evil. a lot of people who are cursed or witches will go to the region because of its bad reputation, this only worsens the reputation. the local humans who are from nearby the region are known to often have distinct red and maroon hair often paired with pale skin and golden orange eyes. the area has a lot of wildlife that lives around there. As hunters refuse to go close to it and those who do are thought of as fearless, foolish or fiendish. there are deer, moose, wolverines, wolfs, bears, large bovine like creatures,  wild horses, hares, and other small creatures. but mundane creatures are not the only ones found as a lot of magic creatures are around too, things like ant-lions, glass animals, doll souls, fire and smoke spirits, fire salsmanders who bask in the guysers and a large number of fire foxes and phonix live here too.  (all photos are stock photos and are used only to help in visualization, if a photo is not a stock photo it was not known to me)

𝐎𝐎𝐂; HOTD Episode 10 HV Song: Hāros Bartossi ( With Three Heads )
I know it’s probably around somewhere but here is the song Daemon sings to Vermithor:

Perzyro udrȳssi  ||  With words of flame Ezīmptos laehossi  ||  With clear eyes  Hārossa letagon  ||  To bind the three Aōt vāedan  ||  To you I sing
