I watched the tv series Lilli episode again --- Arktos is at his nastiest in this season, builds Lilli to literally haunt Tabaluga, then threatens to shatter the statue to force him to surrender. The current Arktos wonders now if he would have actually done it.

"That which is created today is gone tomorrow. Only Arktos lives forever." He frames the whole morbid thing like an art show, a performance --- shattering the statue of the girl being part of the 'art'. The opposite of his own nature. Something made of ice that can die.

Fitting that the Arktos on this blog's redemption arc involves him giving up that immortality by accepting Lilli as his daughter. Full circle, my friends. Guess the art exhibit will end with a death after all.

And the movie Arktos said something interesting --- when it seems Lilli has perished, Taba tearfully demands to know what's become of her. Arktos doesn't say 'she's dead' or 'she's been destroyed ' --- and trust me, this isn't one of those movies that's shy about saying those words. Instead he says:

Lilli is where she belongs.

Is that how he saw it? The ice girl returning to the snow and ice around them, like he can?

Beat Mega Man 9 Today…

I’ve been stuck fighting this Wily Machine for a couple days now.

But finally the battle is won… that just leaves 10, 11, and “Megaman & Bass” for me to beat!

But man this Wily Machine was a PIECE OF WORK!

It’s up there difficulty wise, although I had no E-tanks and was low on Weapon energy, so it’s not MM7 Final Boss level of difficulty, but it’s somewhere up there… Although tbh I think I had more fun with 7’s Final boss… The weakness was more fun to use…

- out of all the lightbots he has the sharpest and pointiest nose, most of them have rounded noises to resemble dr light (they’re his kids. guys. Guys.

- his singing voice is TERRIBLE he’s only sung to one other person (roll) and he hasn’t since out of embarrassment. he works on his singing voice whenever he has a chance

- (this kind of goes into my dr light making his bots as human as he can hcs) being the 8th bot he has 8 little beauty marks on his face :] (MOST OF THEM ARE HIDDEN BY HIS MASK UNFORTUNATELY

- weirdly allergic to animals, at some point when he had to work with fuse he accidentally inhaled some rabbit hair and did the most viscous sneeze, the power almost went out in the city

- has a pun book stashed somewhere (honestly which robot master doesn’t have stupid puns

on the topic of touhou, i DO think that WBaWC is stupidly overhated, honestly; it did sacrifice some originality/beauty in the patterns for more challenging and fast-paced gameplay (especially evident on harder difficulties) but that paid off in my opinion - it's fun as hell to play

the patterns are simple, but actually enjoyable to dodge (unlike junko for example, who's just. bad), and the game is easy to get into

the roaring gimmick is ludicrously satisfying to play with, and every shottype in the game works so, so well with it. it feels GOOD to plow through hordes of enemies with MarisaEagle for example, or to absolutely wipe bosses with YoumuWolf

and honestly, the patterns really aren't that basic? plenty of bosses have super unique, detailed spells and nons - yachie for example, or mayumi. both have a strong theme, and both really make the fights feel original

Ford wasn’t the most social person, to put it plainly. Despite his popularity amongst his teachers at school and the odd handful of classmates, he normally preferred his own company, otherwise his family’s. It had been that way for a long time, and it seemed like it would remain so for the foreseeable future.

And so it did. That is, until he met you, which he did not see coming. 

You had this welcoming presence about you, that much was clear by the way you spoke to him for the first time in the seventh grade, remaining mostly unfazed by his sixth digit aside from the initial surprise. The first time he caught himself rambling about parapsychology and anomalistics, he found no judgment or disinterest in your expression. In fact, you were actually listening, setting down whatever you were doing just to give him your undivided attention. That was a first. It felt nice to have someone (who wasn’t his brother or mother) listen to him. 

And the energy was returned, as he indulged your interests too. Before he knew it, Ford would often seek out your company, whether his brother was available or not, and the two of you could usually be found bouncing ideas off of each other. The room seemed to brighten when you came into view, your presence made him feel comfortably warm inside. Whenever you two parted ways, it always felt too soon, just like it did now.

“Oh my gosh.”

Stan’s voice drew Ford’s attention away from you as you left.

“What?” he asked, mildly perturbed by the wily grin on his brother’s face. Stan just chuckled and nudged him, “You’ve got it so bad, it’s almost embarrassing.” he teased, to which Ford lightly shoved him away, beginning their route back home from the pier. 

“Stanley, come on. They’re my friend just as they are yours. They’re good company.” he said, glancing off to the side, as if that could conceal the rosy pink hue on his face, but Stan remained undeterred. “Sixer, face it. You’re whipped with a capital wh-pshh!” he said, smacking one hand with his other for emphasis. 

“I am not- look, [Name] is very kind and a good friend, I appreciate that. It’s not like I lie awake at night thinking about them.”

Several hours later, it was well past nightfall and everyone in the Pines household was fast asleep, save Ford. 

Up on the top bunk, he laid on his back, hands folded over his midriff as his chest heaved slowly and his heart thrummed steadily beneath its surface. That warmth was still present, especially around his face. His conversation with Stanley had been playing on loop all evening.

Of course Ford liked you, heck, he was crazy about you. You were so nice to him and fun to be around, your enthusiasm was so endearing, and you never treated his abnormalities as though they were defects.

And you weren’t bad to look at either, of course, like earlier that afternoon on the boardwalk when the sun’s light highlighted your features. He could stare at you for hours. The way you diminished his resolve just by looking his way and smiling at him was so positively-

Oh.

Oh. 

“Oh no.”

Ford could just faintly hear a sleepy chuckle from his brother in the bunk below him.

EYES SQUEEZED TIGHT, Aziraphale breathes deeply to steady the hammering of his corporation's heart. Quite spectacular death by dragon could be if done well, he supposes. Would he be reprimanded for spinning a fantastical story out of the experience? It would make the paperwork mildly more interesting.

No, nonsense. THAT WOULD BE LYING.

There are two claims made by the beast that, when coupled together, pluck a note different than fear within his heart, however.

❝ Well, if you are as old as you claim without any FUTURE BEASTS OF THE NIGHT to further your legacy... what do you say to some company? ❞ The corner of his lip twitches in a nervous smile. ❝ Would it terribly inconvenience you to, erm, TELL ME YOUR STORY before being my assured demise? ❞

❝ TRYING TO LEARN if I have reinforcements at my heels, Sir Knight? ❞

Teeth clamp around his cloak, and the angel is tossed into the air like a pebble—breaking through the thick fog of smoke into the tree-line, coming eye-to-eye with a very confused squirrel, before toppling back down to the earth. Before he has the thought to conjure wings, or the paperwork that awaits him, or the reprimands of an archangel, the beast's tail captures him within its tight coils.

A loud, feral cackle sends birds flying throughout the forest.

❝ I can assure you, I need no young to handle the likes of you. ❞ The last word is utter with flames grazing Aziraphale's peripheral, and its tail tightens around him. ❝ I AM AS OLD AS TIME ITSELF. ❞

The creature's ebony muzzle presses against its prey's cheek.

❝ There's nothing you could possibly do to THWART ME. ❞

All my RM redesigns so far yay

Some design notes under the cut

Gemini: Pretty basic, changed his palette slightly to make him a bit more icy/crystal looking, semi inspired by his stage, included some references to the star sign symbol.

Nitro: Went off some of his concept art and added some details based off a motorbike racer suit.

Burner: Again, similar, a lot of my designs for this au are to make the characters easier for me to draw whilst staying identifiable, the little metre on his chest is based on an Australian bush fire warning sign.

Centaur: One of the most heavily altered, I based his palette off oxidised Ancient Greek armour and changed his shape a bit to reflect that aesthetic more.

Star: Gave him some shooting star details, not much else except for making his chest armour a little bit smaller.

Pharaoh: Gave him some malachite details.

Shadow: His armour looks the most like clothing out of all the robot masters due to the way Wily’s alterations worked, he only has four fingers on each hand and is the only robot master with visible skin that isn’t a natural colour (not counting characters like Nitro and Guts)

Toad: Probably the most different of all of the designs so far, I have her warm toned colours and bumps on her armour to make her more toad rather than frog like, the eyes on her helmet are actually floodlights.

Top: His pose and proportions are based on a ballet dancer, the panels on his arms are boosters to make him spin faster, his eyes are a spiral instead of a complete oval.

Splash: Mostly just some little alterations to make her a bite more cohesive in my style, her tail ends with a small rudder to help her move faster in the water.

Chill: Honestly I just wanted to incorporate some of the cool stuff from his concept art so I started from there and worked my way out.

Clown: Went with more of a jester vibe for him because it was hard to find proper clown references, tried to go with a cuter sort of look to take away from some of the creepiness he’s associated with.

And finally, Magnet, who had to have his own background because the grey I used for everyone else didn’t work for him and I’m too tired to go back and change it:

I swapped his red for white to give a bit more balance to his red and blue accents, and tried to give him a very professional, put together look with the magnet on his neck mimicking a collar and sort of making him look like he’s wearing a doctor coat or a button up.

Day 7: Secret

I had several ideas for this one, and eventually decided to do Dr. Light’s last and most secret project.

As you can see, I tried to put a bit of… idk, character? into the paper. It’s not been taken the best care of (100 years in a place that looks like this probably didn’t help the condition, and even then you can probably tell that it was through a couple mishaps during Dr. Light’s life).

(Also I like to imagine he has really bad handwriting which is why so much of it is basically illegible lol)

Lore and Actual Design Reference below!

As mentioned before, no Robot Master lacks a function and all (except for 3 total) had the three laws. I think it’s time to elaborate a bit as to why.

Over the course of his career of building Robot Masters, Dr. Light’s stay-at-home children were the most humanlike due to their independent thought. He knew he was going in the right direction, but they still had limits. They could never quit their job, and had to follow orders when they came from a human superior. To the humans around them, they weren’t really “people” so much as they were tools with a personality; interchangeable with a talking wrench in.

So, Dr. Light got to work on Xote (Aka “X”) as the first Reploid.

It’s demonstrated across the X series that none of the above limitations apply to Reploids. They may be built with a purpose in mind, but they aren’t bound by the 3 laws and can decide for themselves what they are and what they do. For just a few examples:

Pretty sure Alia was a scientist for a little while there before becoming a navigator

Axl quitting Red Alert of his own volition

Zero & X becoming friends despite the latter being created to destroy the former

All of the “new gens” that “went Maverick at will”

The fact that Mavericks can (and do) harm humans

X deciding to become a Maverick Hunter at all

And that’s just the ones that I, a mostly Classic Series fan, am aware of. There’s bound to be even more that I’m NOT aware of!

(This isn’t to say they aren’t still seen as tools sometimes. It’s a very slow progression until they’re on fully even footing.)

So, uh, the TLDR of that all is that the biggest difference between Robot Masters and Reploids is that Robot Masters can’t decide with the same freedom what they want to do with their lives for themselves and can’t really do anything against humans unless under very specific circumstances

X’s design!

Forgot to note:

Since Reploids have that much more autonomy there are like. Resources & stuff for Reploids that want to “grow up”. X gradually upgraded from being around 12-13 (pre-games) to like 15 (MMX1) to, in X8-ish, being like a full-grown 20-30-year-old adult. (Add that to things Robot Masters can’t do that Reploids can lol)

X doesn’t have a model number.

Zero does have a model number, because 1) he didn’t know all of Light’s plans and 2) Wily leans more into the “my robots are tools” line of thought. But Zero doesn’t give a heck about his past canonically so even if he doesn’t know that he definitely doesn’t care lol
