Reblogging not only for the original gifs and comments but also the key addition by @verarin-i-love-i-love-i
Yes, this! Simon and Wilhelm click romantically, but they also click on a non-romantic level. They genuinely like each other, as well as being in love. They don’t always like everything the other person does, they get frustrated with each other, sure. Of course, liking someone doesn’t mean liking every single thing about them. But they find the same kinds of things funny, they have a lot in common.
In this scene in S2, they’re on the outs. They are exes, it was an incredibly messy breakup, they’re both scarred by it. And both in general are pretty frustrated with the other. But in this moment, they can still catch each other’s eye and share a smile. Because they both find this situation funny, even though they’re exes. The romantic angst didn’t magically take away their similar sense of humour.
And I think they could be friends even if there were no romantic component from the start. Simon is very clear from 1.01 onwards that he’s gay. Girls don’t do it for him. Exactly which flavour of queer Wilhelm is, we don’t really know yet. Hence him identifying as unlabelled. But he’s in love with another boy, so we know he’s not straight. He could be gay or bi or pan, whatever.
The point of the tangent above is that Simon canonically has zero romantic or sexual interest in girls. But I strongly suspect that even if Wilhelm were Wilhelmina, Simon would want to hang out with her anyway. He wouldn’t be attracted to her, but he would still like her as a person, enjoy her sense of humour, want to be her friend, etc.
And romantic love does not always line up with liking someone. Sometimes you fall in love someone you don’t like very much, someone you probably wouldn’t be friends with if not for the romantic and sexual attraction. Trust me, I’m nearly 47, and I’ve been there.
When you get both love and liking, click on multiple levels, fall in love with someone who could easily be a close platonic friend under other circumstances, that’s pretty damn great. And that is what Wille and Simon have. Even when they’re both eating their hearts out over their breakup, even when they’re miserable, they can still share a moment of amusement together over the weirdness.
They need to stop doing this right now!! (no please don't stop, I am begging you)

Sooo, remember when I said I may have to resort to humour to get me through all this LT talk, yeah I promise I'm fine...
Extra points if you know the tune to this song, yes I'm old 😅:
🎶
He was a boy,
He was a boy,
Can I make it anymore obvious?
He sings in the choir,
He delivers some hay,
What more can I say?
He wanted him,
But he'd never tell,
Secretly he wanted wille instead.
But all of his friends,
Told him with a sigh,
'You gotta go out and give it a try.'
He was a stable boy,
He said 'see you later boy.'
He wasn't good enough for him.
He had a pretty face,
But Wille filled up the space,
In his now broken, torn up heart.
Few weeks from now,
He sits at home,
Looking through insta, he's all alone.
He stopped at a pic,
Guess who he saw,
Stable boy feeding the horse Rousseau.
He calls up his friends,
They already know,
They have a talk, but again he says 'no'.
He turns on a game,
And more of the same,
His heart pounds as he thought of his name.
He was a stable boy,
He said 'see you later boy.'
He wasn't good enough for him.
He had a pretty face,
But Wille filled up the space,
In his now open, mending-up heart.
Sorry horse boy, missed out,
Tough luck, the other boy has just come out,
They are more than just good friends,
This is how the story ends.
Too bad you couldn't see,
How revolutionary this prince could be.
There is more to meet the eye,
The other boy's heart has healed inside.
He's just a boy,
He's just a boy,
Can I make it anymore obvious?
They are in love,
Haven't you heard
How they heal each other's world?
He was a stable boy,
He said 'see you later boy.'
He wasn't good enough for him.
He has a pretty face,
But Wille filled up the space,
In his now unbroken, healed up heart.
🎶
I know this would make way more sense if the stable boy is the one to get the choir boy at the end since wille is the one who 'let go', but I am physically and emotionally unable to depict anything other than Wilmon endgame 🤭
I'm sorry for the time you wasted to read this 🙃😂
Hahah Wauw anon 😂 you really outdid yourself there. And ofc I know the song. Everyone reading “he was a boy” knows the song 👽
