The Field Day cardigan by Ozetta 2.0. Last year I made this pattern with a poor yarn choice that was unsuitable for garments in general as it stretched out a lot with just one wear. This time I decided to treat myself with Noro yarn since I’ve heard good things about it and was intrigued by the colors.

The pattern is a boxy drop shoulder cardigan with short row shaping in the back and the button band being knit along with the body. I enjoyed the pattern a lot, which was why I was willing to do it again when my first attempt didn’t turn out so well.

With the Noro yarn, this project turned out better than I imagined. Knitting with this yarn has been a great experience so it felt like it flew off the needles. I love the colors, which kinda remind me of confetti, and it’s colorful without being too flashy, so I can throw it on any outfit easily. The varying thickness of the yarn also made the experience more interesting and give the fabric some character. Warning though, some parts are loosely spun, so it will break if you pull too hard, such as when you’re doing Italian bind off.

The final result was better than I had imagined. The yarn produced a lovely fabric that holds up well, resulting in a boxy fit that isn’t too oversized to the point I’m lost in the garment. Definitely an upgrade from my first attempt and I’m happy to add it to my wardrobe.

I. “No,” the Mandalorian shakes his head impatiently. “You can’t wear that.”

“Excuse me?” You snort, unaccustomed to letting others editorialize your wardrobe choices.

The Mandalorian lifts his elbows from off his thighs and leans back in the captain's chair, not bothering to reply. With the seat turned around to face you, a struggle of wills ensues. It’s tough having a stare-down when you can’t look your opponent in the eye, but you're determined to win nonetheless.

Sensing the growing tension building in the cockpit, Nito crawls out from under the dashboard to play peacekeeper. 

“Hell yeah!” The Ardennian nods enthusiastically, taking in your outfit. “Ahem," he coughs into his fist. "But, I think what Mando is trying to say is, you need to be less…,” he churns four furry hands through the air as though he might catch the right word between his fingers. 

“Hmm?”

“...conspicuous” is what Nito settles on.

You look down at your matching skirt and jacket. “Red is my favorite color.”

“It attracts attention,” Mando says gruffly, crossing his arms over his chest. He’s trying to intimidate you into getting his way, but the hostile warrior routine is undercut by the baby currently dozing in his lap. 

“Yes, I'm familiar with the word inconspicuous,” you smirk begrudgingly at him before raising an eyebrow. “What kind of attention do you think I’m going to attract that the Beskar doesn’t already?”

He pauses long enough for you to recall how well the red leather gleams around the curve of your ass. 

“Ok, point taken,” you relent, pushing away from the doorframe with your shoulder. “But I only get hit on when someone wants to pick a fight with you. An outfit change is not going to fix that.”

The Mandalorian snorts, "That is not true," while Nito cackles, "Ha, right!"

"You're both delusional," you huff.

When you turn to make your way down the ladder, you can barely hear Mando scoff, “Didn’t realize I was getting in the way of your social life."

“And what’s that supposed to mean?” you snap, whirling back around. 

How dare he misconstrue your words like that! Mando had no right to make jokes about your sex life after…

He doesn't get to pretend like it never happened and then say shit like that!

It's not fair. He’d been so kind over the past few days, ever since the job on Berchest when he’d finally explained—or rather, made clear from his rejection, since he hadn’t really explained much of anything—that he couldn’t return your feelings for him. 

Which will probably remain one of the most humiliating experiences of your life since being hot and slutty meant you weren’t exactly accustomed to rejection. So it made the hurt sting a little less when he tried to show you in a million other ways how much he cares about you. 

That that, at least, was not the issue.

In fact, he’s been downright sweet. Fixing the overhead light in the sleeping compartment when you mentioned it was too dark to read in bed, offering you the tech from an old quarry so he can upgrade your visor, buying those fish dumplings you love even though you’ve never told him they’re your favorite. 

And when you’d had another flying lesson together, he was calm, patient, and didn’t raise his voice in anger. What had happened to that Mando?!

Nito leans towards the bounty hunter conspiratorially to mutter, “Don’t worry, she does just fine,” out of the side of his mouth.  

Instead of being amused, Mando’s shoulders tense, and immediately, the child starts fussing in his stiffened grip. 

Which is nothing to the flush in your cheeks, perfectly matching your outfit. “Uh, excuse you, mister. It is rude to talk about people’s business like they're not standing right in front of you.”

Chastened, Nito shrinks back under the dashboard to resume his repairs. 

“Just,” a heavy sigh crackles through the modulator. “Try to look... intimidating.”

“You said we were meeting this guy at a nightclub?”

“Afterwards,” says Mando firmly. “I’m bringing you with me to see Vos. For the buy.”

“Whoa! What?” 

Ryun Vos was a rising star in the Outer Rim’s criminal underworld and a key leader in restoring the Crimson Dawn syndicate to its former prominence. He was also Mando’s most reliable client at the moment. 

“Hey, you wanted this. Partners, right? Vos will try to undercut me…and you'll know if he's bluffing.”

Reflexively, you look behind you towards the holding cell where the traitor posing as ‘Ozan Sango’ is stored in carbonite. “You’re really going to sell him to Vos?”

“Unless he’s more cooperative after coming out of hibernation.” 

“Well, um… shoulder pads are kind of threatening?”

The bounty hunter points a leather finger at you accusingly, “You want to play at being a mercenary, look the part.”

You throw up your hands helplessly. “No one has ever described…or even thought of me as intimidating.”

He didn’t skip a beat, “I don’t doubt that.”

“In ten years of treating thick-skulled alpha types,” a comment which your eyebrows confirm is indeed a reference to the Mandalorian, “I’ve found that you get more flies with honey than vinegar.”

Your pubescent mechanic pokes his head out from under the dashboard to add his magnanimous wisdom. “Mando’s right, Thuli, you gotta look the part. If you’re selling anything, you’re on the menu.”

“That’s quite enough from you, Uncle Nito,” you cringe uncomfortably. “You are thirteen.”

“Wait,” Mando interjects, pointing at the kid. “Did you hear him say–?”

“What I am trying to say is that regardless of whatever I wear, as soon as I open my mouth, it’s going to be obvious that I’m not—” then it all falls into place. “Oh, so you just want me to be quiet?”

“The thought had occurred to me,” Mando sighs, standing up. He’s on the other side of the cockpit, but you find yourself stepping back to avoid the gravitational pull of his broad shoulders.

You rock on the balls of your feet to mask your embarrassment, as though you're merely restless. “I’m not allowed to speak, but you need my help negotiating?”

“Nod your head for yes. Shaking means no,” he says coolly. “Try to look like you could handle yourself in a fight. Otherwise, don’t attract attention.” 

Then you gasp, heart fluttering when Mando reaches out unexpectedly to catch a tendril of your hair between his gloved fingers. “You should cover this,” he says.

You merely nod, deeply pissed at yourself for letting him have this kind of effect on you. Every time you convince yourself that you’ll be able to move past your yearning for him  — that you could try to forget that one thrilling, perfect moment when he drew his fingers between your thighs…

Fortunately, Nito can’t help but insert himself back into the conversation.

“What color did you say it was?” Every strand of your hair is imbued with a pearlescent glow, transforming from lavender to dusky pink or pale blue, depending on how the light shifts.

“I think it translates as 'moondust,'” you say, taking another imperceptible step away from the Mandalorian. Until the child leans back abruptly from his perch on Mando’s hip to reach for you. 

You both dive to catch him, stammering apologies as your fingers get tangled up together. When you awkwardly separate, you end up with the child in your arms, blinking up at you with a satisfied look on his face like he’s some kind of mastermind.

The Ardennian rolls his eyes in response. “I don’t think most mercenaries spend their money on starlight hair? Or—"

“Moondust.” 

“Or those boots.”

“Guess I’m not like the mercenaries you've known before,” you grin, tapping the heels of your knee-high lace ups. 

“Enough,” Mando growls. “You need—I don’t know how else to make you take this seriously.”

The Mandalorian retrieves something from the pocket of his belt, reaching over to place a bounty puck down onto the dash. The hologram puck blinks several times before projecting its ‘wanted’ image.

And suddenly, you’re staring into the face of yourself at seventeen, a naive girl who thought she would save the galaxy. 

“Where did you get this?”

“Thul-eeeeeeee!” Nito squeals. “Look at your dimples!”

“After what happened on Berchest?” Mando scoffs. “Still have access, so I searched for you in the Guild’s database.” 

“Has—is it an open contract or has someone…?”

Mando points to the fine print, which says, “Reward for information leading to capture. Do not engage. No jurisdiction to take into custody. Report to New Republic Security Force at—”

“That seems…odd?” You wait for Mando to provide some explanation, given this is more his area of expertise.

“Where did you leave things with the New Republic before going to ground?” he asks.

“Part of General Organa's treaty negotiations with the Hapes Consortium included an extradition clause ... and I, um, may have been on that list.” 

“Is that the 'trouble' Tigran Vildar helped you out of?”

"More or less," you nod, a little distracted by how Mando’s tone changes whenever he says Tigran’s name. “They gave me all these assurances about my rights, but instead, I ran.”

“This won’t help with your legal case. Duke Raife Galantis has made charges against you.”

Wanted for trespass, theft, and vandalism.

“Gods preserve me, it would be so much less embarrassing for him to forget the whole thing,” you groan. “Wait! Why is theft included in the list of charges?” 

“He’s claiming you broke into a family vault. Convenient way to make some money disappear. There's no mention of our quarry, though, so they didn’t connect you to his disappearance. And nothing about traveling with a Mandalorian.”

“Does that mean they matched my biometric data from–?” 

Mando pulls a tracking fob from his pocket, connects it to a device, and enters the chain code. It immediately begins to beep at you. “He must have had something with your DNA. A strand of hair is all it takes to run a cross-check.”

“Oh, what the fuck?!” Gods be damned, if Tigran were here, he would probably explode, screaming, I told you so. “That record only exists because I was serving, fighting for—just give me—I need a minute.”

“Hey,” he grabs you by the shoulder. “I’m going to keep you safe, but you gotta help me with that, okay?”

“Okay,” you say, nodding. “You’re right. I need to be more discreet.”

“Alright. Get dressed. We don’t want to be late.”

Looking through the shipping container where you’ve stuffed all your possessions, you laugh when your fingers brush against the only tactical bit of clothing you own. The fabric prevented your heat signature from getting picked up by thermal scanners. After watching Mando kill about a dozen people in your apartment, it seemed like a good investment.

Just in case.

“Is this…?” You wave your hands out in front of you, unable to tell if Mando’s upset or just stunned by the sight of you. It's not a full bodysuit. The sleeves are long, but the inseam is short and cut above the knee.  

He says nothing, yet you feel his eyes taking in every detail.

"Can you zip me?" you ask, turning around. The suit is one of those one-size-fits-all conforms to the shape of your body type of garments with a vertical zipper running down the back to make it easier to step into.

It's gotta be one of the oldest tricks in the book—but, hey, if he wanted to pretend there was nothing between you, why not call his bullshit?

"You have it on backward," he says from over your shoulder in a valiant effort to avoid the trap you've set for him.

"Nope," you say brightly. "See, the hood attaches here," and you twist at the waist, causing the suit to gape, exposing the cleft of your buttocks.

Out of excuses, the Mandalorian steps behind you to reach for the pull of your zipper. His broad shoulders loom over you. This is probably the closest you've been in days. It felt so reassuring—the familiar sensation of the cool Beskar and the warmth of his body radiating against you.

You feel the slow tug of the zipper running up your waist and between your shoulders until, finally, the collar tightens around your neck.

"Thanks," you say casually, turning around to face him. But the Mandalorian doesn't step away.

"You should tie a string on that, or you won't be able to get out of it again."

The smile on your face is a masterpiece of feigned innocence. "I'm sure I'll find someone to help," you shrug. "When the time comes."

Are you imagining things, or has his breathing suddenly become shallow?

“So, with my visor…and gloves and boots…I should be pretty well covered?” 

He continues to stare silently as if he’s never seen you before. 

“Thuli!" Nito crows, making his way down the ladder. "You look like a badass.”

You gesture at Nito’s awed expression as proof that you’ve exceeded the sartorial assignment. The Ardennian raises his fuzzy eyebrows. “Like, sexy, but I’m definitely afraid you’re gonna kill me.” 

You turn to Mando, awaiting judgment. “It’s black. Black is intimidating. Plus, it’s literally a stealth suit.”

“Put on your jacket,” he growls, leaning into your sleeping compartment to grab it off the bed. “We’ll talk about the suit later. And I’m arming you with a real blaster.”  

Standing before the open weapons locker, Mando locates a spare holster belt. You try not to twist your hips against the clenching throb that jolts through your core when he crouches down between your legs to cinch the leather straps around each of your thighs. 

And again, when he roughly thrusts both pistols down into the holster pockets. 

You try not to remember the same sweet jolt of his thumb slipping over the ridges of your clit…but oh, you remembered.

This is the fine line you're both walking—trying to find a way to navigate companionship without the possibility of reaching deeper gratification. And it's absolute torture!

But what other choice did you have? To leave? That didn’t feel like a possibility, either.

“I’m flattered that you think I can shoot with both hands,” you flash him a sly grin.

“Can’t you?”

“I mean, physically, there’s no reason I couldn’t.” He sighs, shaking his head. “Do I look like a scary mercenary now?”

“Let’s see what the prisoner thinks.”

Stede

While there were times Stede wanted to spend every available second with Ed he still enjoyed time by himself once in a while. At present he was reading in his cabin while Ed and most of the crew were on shore. It was nice to get some time to just read and relax alone. It was nice to not have to worry about what the crew was getting up to. 

There was a knock at the cabin door and Stede groaned. Of course, it was always something. 

“Come in!” Stede said, setting the book down and standing to see who it was and what disaster was going on. 

“Captain Bonnet.” 

Oh. It was Izzy. Definitely not who Stede wanted to see and it was extremely difficult not to scowl and snap.

“What is it Izzy?”

“Is Edward back yet?” 

“Not yet.” 

Izzy sighed. Stede frowned. Something wasn’t right with Izzy. He was holding his arm strangely and his face looked bruised and pale.

“Are you alright Izzy?” 

“No,” Izzy admitted, “Dislocated my fucking shoulder. Again. Edward usually helps. Roach isn’t here either.” 

“How many times have you dislocated your shoulder?” Stede asked

“This’ll be the sixth time,” Izzy said.

“Can I help?” Stede asked. Izzy looked at him. Over the past couple of years Stede and Izzy had been getting better around each other. No more trying to kill each other or one up each other around Edward. Still there was a distance between the two.

“I…we can try,” Izzy said. Stede didn’t blame Izzy for being hesitant. The man must be hurting if he was willing to try getting help from Stede. 

“Where do we start?” Stede asked. 

“I need your help to get my shirt off,” Izzy said. Stede felt a little sick at the sight of Izzy’s dislocated, bruised shoulder. It looked horribly painful. Izzy gave instructions for where Stede needed to put his hand and put pressure and that Izzy knew what movement he needed to make. 

Izzy was trembling slightly or the muscles in his shoulder were spasming, either way it was clear to Stede now that he was close to Izzy how much pain the man was in and how nervous Izzy was to be so vulnerable in front of Stede of all people. 

Izzy moved and Stede felt a pop and Izzy cried out in pain and stumbled slightly. 

“Did it work?” Stede asked and helped Izzy over to the couch where Izzy sat down. 

“It worked.” 

“Oh good. Just stay right there, I think I have something to make a sling out of,” Stede said. Stede went into the wardrobe and found the perfect scarf he could fashion into a sling for Izzy. It wasn’t black but he thought Izzy might be alright with dark green. 

Stede peeked out of the closet and saw Izzy laying with his head back looking utterly exhausted. When Stede came out Izzy sat up straight. 

“This should do it, and you can stay here if you want.” 

“I shouldn’t…” 

“Would you stay if it was just you and Ed?” 

“Yes. Suppose I could stay.” 

Stede helped Izzy back into his shirt then helped him put his arm in the sling.

“Can I ask what happened?” 

Izzy huffed, “Buckle on the foot came loose,” Izzy said indicating his prosthetic foot, “I tripped and tumbled. You tell anyone and I’ll kill you.” 

“I won’t tell anyone Izzy. I’m sorry you hurt yourself. Do we need to fix anything on the foot?” 

“No, was my fault.” 

“Sorry Izzy. Don’t hesitate to speak up if you need something fixed or upgraded,” Stede said. 

Izzy nodded and looked like he was going to try to get up again. 

“You can stay as long as you’d like, I’m just reading.” 

Izzy looked like he was thinking about it, he looked tired and a little worn out and if Stede were in his position he would want to take a nap. Somewhere safe. Stede hoped that Izzy realized he was somewhere safe.

Izzy settled down a little, “Thanks…Stede.” 

“You’re very welcome Izzy,” Stede said. He smiled as he walked back to read. He was pretty sure that was the first time Izzy had called him by his name, and hopefully it wouldn’t be the last.

When these random encounters become more frequent, it’s time to start considering it a relationship. And It’s messy af.

Roman can be very bossy and possessive, and Kelly isn’t the type to put up with that. He does what he wants, and the only thing Kelly’s even a bit possessive about is his business/the people who work for him.

He severely underestimates how serious Roman can be when he’s committed to something. When he messes up and gets too handsy with someone else, Roman basically treats him like some rando he’s never met before. The effort of getting back into his good graces makes him reconsider just how careless he is with hitting on anything that moves, at least as long as Roman is in view.

When he really fucks up, figuring Roman’s not there and won’t find out, the effort is almost more than he’s willing to bother with. No one’s ever been worth this much time and consideration, but in this case, the juice is worth the squeeze.

Since they start dating and are inevitably seen together in public, Roman convinces him to tame his hair and upgrade his wardrobe. He cleans up very well in a tux for all the high-profile events Roman goes to.

Wild paparazzi pics are always surfacing, and even wilder stories in gossip mags. They go from being relatively famous to bonafide celebrity status.

There's going to be a biopic of them at some point probably.

Roman at an Adult Film Con with Kelly + Danielle

First of all, Roman’s busy and has about at least 10 other things he’d rather do at any given time than go to one of these cons. He ends up going, but only because Danielle is also going and he can pretend he’s doing it as a favour to her. In reality, he’s keeping an eye on Kelly’s trifling ass.

He does look out for Danielle a little too, though. He’s going to treat her as if she were one of his best actresses, which means real star treatment. Being seen in the company of Roman Bridger is going to ensure Danielle and Kelly are the main attractions at the con.

As much attention as Kelly and Danielle get, Roman gets the most of it. This means there are a lot of men and women flocking to him, and a lot of them get a little too comfortable.

It was never much of a concern to Kelly in the past with any of his stars/previous partners. This is just the sort of thing you come to expect in his line of business. Everyone wants to sample the merch and he did it often enough himself. But he was trying to be a good boy now and keep his hands to himself, and that meant everyone else had better keep their damn hands to themselves as well.

Roman isn’t impressed by all this fawning and is a bit of an arrogant prick to basically everyone there, since this really isn’t his crowd or his scene. Kelly’s absolutely eating it up, especially when Hugo Posh comes around with his "crisp air" talk. "I don’t know what that means, but I’m not interested."

They flip a coin to decide who tops. Kelly tries to use a double-sided coin once, but Roman figures it out and gets to do whatever he wants to him.

(For reference; maybe the choice of clothes were more “grown up” but still fashionable attire, whatever you pick).

I know that men like to go "raw" (lol) as a display of comfort and trustworthiness, but I wonder if Sam perceived his actions as a sign of his willingness to build a family with her (or something). She's a very responsible person with a strong sense of duty, but she is also naive and sees the good in others (even when there is none to be found). Sam might have assumed that he was as responsible as she was and willing to take on the responsibility of pregnancy and parenthood like her. We learned in a different timeline that that isn't true. 

Mandy was molting, shedding her outer cover (represented by old clothing) to experience the next stage of her life. That's how I perceived her wardrobe upgrade. 

Mandy dresses wonderful, but her style doesn't always have the same star quality as her. This seems to reflect her inner battle: wanting to stand-out but still wanting to fit in because she's lonely and wants true friends. (That's my idea, anyways, lol. I could be wrong, and I might reconsider.) This is why I could see her becoming "Pretty Preppy" after becoming a couple with Sam. She would stand out in a more prominent way due to the confidence that comes from having someone you love in your life loving you too.
