Once I am sure there's nothing going on I step inside, letting the door thud shut. Another church: matting, seats, and stone, And little books; sprawlings of flowers, cut For Sunday, brownish now; some brass and stuff Up at the holy end; the small neat organ; And a tense, musty, unignorable silence, Brewed God knows how long. Hatless, I take off My cycle-clips in awkward reverence,

Move forward, run my hand around the font. From where I stand, the roof looks almost new- Cleaned or restored? Someone would know: I don't. Mounting the lectern, I peruse a few Hectoring large-scale verses, and pronounce "Here endeth" much more loudly than I'd meant. The echoes snigger briefly. Back at the door I sign the book, donate an Irish sixpence, Reflect the place was not worth stopping for.

Yet stop I did: in fact I often do, And always end much at a loss like this, Wondering what to look for; wondering, too, When churches fall completely out of use What we shall turn them into, if we shall keep A few cathedrals chronically on show, Their parchment, plate, and pyx in locked cases, And let the rest rent-free to rain and sheep. Shall we avoid them as unlucky places?

Or, after dark, will dubious women come To make their children touch a particular stone; Pick simples for a cancer; or on some Advised night see walking a dead one? Power of some sort or other will go on In games, in riddles, seemingly at random; But superstition, like belief, must die, And what remains when disbelief has gone? Simple Home Remedy

· The first step to any carpet stain removal is to carefully remove any debris that is sitting on top of the carpet.

· This prevents spreading further out when cleaning the stain. Blot any liquid that is on the surface with a clean, absorbent towel or sponge.

· Mix a small amount, ¼ cup, of clear dish liquid (like Dawn dish soap) with 1 cup water into a container big enough to hold this mixture.

· Apply this solution directly to a clean cloth and dampen the carpet fibers, but do not soak the carpet.

· Blot carpet gently while turning the cloth frequently.

· If necessary, use your fingertips to work the solution into the base of the stain.

· After applying the mixture, fill a large cup with warm water and carefully pour water onto treated stain, enough to rinse the dish solution.

· After applying water cover the entire spot with an absorbent cloth and apply pressure, long enough to soak up the majority of the liquid.

· Continue the process of blotting and rinsing until all traces of the solution are removed.

· If the stain is removed after this process, cover the entire area with a clean, absorbent towel and place a heavy, color-fast object on the towel that will help soak up the remainder of the liquid in the carpet fibers.

· You will need to continually change towels until the area is dry.

Professional Remedy

For those of you that have tried the home remedy or even used a commercial carpet cleaning spray, and have failed at removing do not hesitate to call the professional cleaners in. These people know that they are doing because they do this or a living. Carpet Stain Removal is part of their job. 8. You can't do anything if the stained carpet is covered by a hardened substance.

9. Detergent markers also work very well after a stain has been blotted.

10. If you use other cleansers, apply them to the cloth first and then use the cloth on the carpet. This gives you more control.

11. It also allows you to apply a little at a time and work on it. You can see if it cleans the stain or is making the stain worse.

Types of Carpet Stain Removal

There are five common types of carpet stains:

1. Oil

3. Pet stains (most likely to cause odor)

4. Coffee and Tea stains,

5. Juice stains and stains coming from dyes, and finally, general food stains and any other stains.

You've probably heard it before, but it bears repeating. If you want to get rid of the stain, you should start cleaning it as soon as you notice it. If you wait long enough for it to dry, the chances of it becoming a permanent stain increase dramatically.

Jesse L. Martin

Jesse L. Martin (born Jesse Lamont Watkins; January 18, 1969) is an American actor and singer. He is best known for originating the role of Tom Collins on Broadway in the musical Rent and his television roles as NYPD Detective Ed Green on Law & Order and Detective Joe West on The Flash.

Early life

Martin, the third of four sons, was born in Rocky Mount, Virginia. His father, Jesse Reed Watkins (1943-2003), was a truck driver, and his mother, Virginia Price, a college counselor; the two divorced when he was a child. His mother eventually remarried and Martin adopted his stepfather's surname.

When Martin was in grade school, the family relocated to Buffalo, New York, but Martin began to dislike speaking because of his Southern accent and was often overcome with shyness. A concerned educator and mentor influenced him to join an after-school drama program and cast him as the pastor in The Golden Goose. Being from Virginia, the young Martin played the character the only way he knew how: as an inspired Southern Baptist preacher. The act was a hit, and Martin emerged from his shell. Martin attended high school at The Buffalo Academy for Visual and Performing Arts, where he was voted "Most Talented" in his senior class. He later enrolled in New York University's Tisch School of the Arts' Theatre Program and while at NYU he was also the popular President of Rubin Dorm, the former domain of Mark Twain. He also has a niece named Daisia Martin born by his youngest brother David Martin

Career

After graduation, Martin toured the states with John Houseman's The Acting Company. He appeared in Shakespeare's Rock-in-Roles at the Actors Theatre of Louisville and The Butcher's Daughter at The Cleveland Play House, and returned to Manhattan to perform in local theatre, soap operas, and commercials. Finding that auditions, regional theater, and bit parts were no way to support himself, Martin waited tables at several restaurants around the city. He was literally serving a pizza when his appearance on CBS's Guiding Light aired in the same eatery. While the show aired, the whole waitstaff gathered around the bar television to cheer his performance. Often, during the dinner rush, he broke out in song. When he gave his customers their dinner checks, he told them to "keep it, because someday I'll be famous!"

Martin made his Broadway debut in Timon of Athens, and then performed in The Government Inspector with Lainie Kazan. While employed at the Moondance Diner, he met the playwright Jonathan Larson, who also worked on the restaurant's staff. In 1996, Larson's musical Rent took the theatre world by storm, with Martin in the role of gay computer geek/philosophy professor Tom Collins. The 1990s update of Puccini's La Bohème earned six Drama Desk Awards, five Obie Awards, four Tony Awards, and the Pulitzer Prize. In 1998, the West End production of Rent opened with four of the original cast members, including Martin. He played Tad in the concept album of Bright Lights, Big City.

In 2010, Martin returned to the stage for one of his biggest theater commitments since Law & Order performing in the productions of The Merchant of Venice and The Winter's Tale as a part of The Public Theater's Shakespeare in the Park at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park. He played the roles of Gratiano and King Polixenes, respectively. The two shows were performed in repertory, beginning with previews on June 9, 2010 through to the final performance on August 1, 2010.

The Merchant of Venice later transferred to Broadway to the Broadhurst Theater for a limited engagement, during which time Martin reprised his role as Gratiano. The show began previews on October 19, 2010, and officially opened on November 7. The show began a hiatus on January 9 to accommodate Al Pacino's pre-existing obligations, and resumed from February 1, 2011 to February 20, 2011; Martin did not reprise his role after the hiatus due to other work commitments. He took part in a one-night-only reading benefit of Romeo and Juliet to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the opening of the Delacorte Theater in Central Park, alongside Meryl Streep, Kevin Kline, Raúl Esparza and others on June 18, 2012.

Television

Martin soon landed roles on Fox's short-lived 413 Hope St. and Eric Bross' independent film Restaurant (1998). Ally McBeal's creator, David E. Kelley, attended Rent's Broadway premiere and remembered Martin when the show needed a new boyfriend for the show's title character. His performance as Dr. Greg Butters on Ally McBeal caught the attention of David Duchovny, who cast Martin as a baseball-playing alien in a 1999 episode of The X-Files titled "The Unnatural" that Duchovny wrote and directed.

While still shooting Ally McBeal, Martin heard rumors that actor Benjamin Bratt planned to leave the cast of Law & Order. Martin had tried out for the show years before and won the minor role of a car-radio thief named Earl the Hamster, but decided to wait for a bigger part. With the opportunity presenting itself, Martin approached Law & Order producer Dick Wolf regarding the opening. Wolf hoped to cast him, and upon hearing that CBS and Fox both offered Martin development deals, he gave the actor the part without an audition.

From 1999 to 2008, he played Detective Edward 'Ed' Green on Law & Order. Altogether, he was the fifth longest-serving cast member; behind S. Epatha Merkerson, Sam Waterston, Jerry Orbach and Steven Hill. He had a brief hiatus at the end of the 2004–2005 season while he was filming the movie adaptation of Rent in which he reprised the role of Tom Collins. Martin's final episode of Law & Order aired April 23, 2008, as he was replaced by Anthony Anderson. Martin returned to NBC a year later, as the co-star of The Philanthropist.

On September 14, 2012, NBC announced that Martin would be joining the cast of SMASH during season 2 for a nine-episode arc as Scott Nichols, the artistic director of the Manhattan Theatre Workshop. Martin has also been cast as one of the leads in an NBC pilot of The Secret Lives of Husbands and Wives as Greg Cooke. It was announced on May 10, 2013, that NBC would not be picking up the pilot.

Martin was cast as Detective West in the pilot for The Flash, a spin-off from Arrow in January 2014. The Flash was picked up for a full 23 episode season by The CW.

Film

On March 4, 2013, it was announced that Martin would replace Lenny Kravitz as Marvin Gaye in an upcoming biopic directed by Julien Temple, and produced by Vassal Benton and Fred Bestall. Martin had been attached to a different Gaye biopic for years and had stated that it was his dream role to portray the legendary Motown singer.

Other work

Martin voiced the character Ed Green in the video game Law & Order: Justice is Served, and narrated the audio book The Fire Next Time by James Baldwin and On the Shoulder of Giants, Volume 2: Master Intellects and Creative Giants by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. He co-produced the Off-Broadway production of Fully Committed with Rent co-star Adam Pascal (and two other producers).

Martin sits on the board of trustees for the Jonathan Larson Performing Arts Foundation along with Rent co-producer Kevin McCollum.

Personal life

In October 2006, Martin returned to Buffalo, New York to work on an independent film (Buffalo Bushido).

He is a resident of Manhattan.

HEATH SAUNDERS (Jesus) debuted on Broadway in 2016 in the much-acclaimed musical Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812. Previously he was seen in the show in its American Repertory Theatre production. He has appeared Off-Broadway in Newton’s Cradle (New York Musical Theatre Festival), for which he also wrote the music and lyrics. Other New York appearances include Lennon (Union Square Theatre), I Am Harvey Milk (Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center), and Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (New York City Center Encores). Regionally Saunders has been seen in Twelfth Night (Shakespeare Theatre Company in Washington, D.C.). The 12 (Denver Center), Rent (Seattle’s 5th Avenue Theatre), and James and the Giant Peach (Seattle Children’s Theatre).

RYAN SHAW (Judas) is an Atlanta native who made his New York debut in Tyler Perry’s play I Know I’ve Been Changed. Shaw subsequently established himself doing Motown covers, joining the group Fabulous Soul Shakers and later opening for Van Halen’s 2007/08 North American tour. nbCC Holds Q&A Session about Housing/Homelessness

When the February forum planning committee initially met to determine the focus of the Housing/Homelessness forum, they quickly realized that they all had more questions than answers and felt that this forum would be a great time for everyone to get the facts about the state of housing and homelessness in Northern Berkshire. The forum began with a quiz for the 75 community members who gathered for the Q&A session. The quiz revealed some surprising data (sample of questions below).What do the answers to these questions tell us?

North Adams includes the most renters in north county. One reason for this is because it also has the highest number of subsidized units. Ironically though, there is still not enough, and there is currently a potential 3 to 5 year wait time. Also, there can be a perception that too much money is spent on subsidized or low income housing, when in fact, more money is spent to higher income homeowners through mortgage and real estate tax deductions. Housing policies and laws favor people homeowners with higher incomes.

With 56% of renters in Berkshire County rent burdened and 29% of renters severely rent burdened, a great number of Berkshire County residents are in dire straits and are at risk of housing insecurity and homelessness. There are also many families who are just one negative life event away from facing homelessness.

Homeowners can also be at risk. 35% of home owners are mortgage burdened and this number is rising as a significant number of older residents on fixed incomes who have remortgaged their homes. There is also the extreme challenge that homeowners face when they lose their homes: mortgages are often lower than current market rents.

It was heard during the forum, that most local housing services give priority to families, causing a gap in services for single homeless men. The Louison House has some drop-in beds, but there is a need for more money to expand. Brad Gordon of Berkshire County Regional Housing Authority urged us to call our state representatives to request more funding for local services, which rely on state funding.

Local non-housing organizations often do not know how to help people who are homeless and need a plan to deal with people who are homeless. Al Nelson from the Friendship Center Food Pantry expressed a need for an action group that comes up with a pathway to help those who are homeless. Following the forum, nbCC sent out a survey to see if people were interested in getting involved. Results showed that several people are ready to form an action group. Christa Collier of the Northern Berkshire United Way has taken the lead to organize this group with the first meeting on March 13 at 12:15 at nbCC.

A spectacular new production of Disney’s The Little Mermaid kicks off at The Broward Center for the Performing Arts on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 for a limited two week run. Featuring the critically acclaimed work of Director Glenn Casale, this beloved tale of a young mermaid’s coming-of-age adventure is told like never before. Previously announced casting includes Diana Huey as Ariel and Matthew Kacergis as Prince Eric, with Broadway’s Jennifer Allen as Ursula and Steven Blanchard as King Triton. Melvin Abston, Connor Russell and Jamie Torcellini join the cast as Sebastian, Flounder and Scuttle.

This timeless Disney musical is based on the hit animated 1989 Disney film The Little Mermaid, which was loosely based on the Hans Christian Anderson tale. The show follows headstrong Ariel, no longer content to live on the ocean floor under her father, King Triton’s rule.

Convinced she’ll only find happiness on land, she sets off to find a world where she belongs, battling a cruel sea witch and finding true love along the way. The film earned three Academy Award® nominations and four Golden Globe nominations, winning the awards for Best Song (“Under the Sea”) and Best Score in both ceremonies. The soundtrack won the Grammy Award for Best Album for Children and the Grammy Award® for Best Score Soundtrack Album for A Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media.

The Broadway production appeared in 2007 under Director Francesca Zambello. In 2012, Director Glenn Casale was invited to re-imagine the show, making significant plot changes, introducing aerial elements and featuring a new set design by Bob Crowley that emulates a pop-up book. Casale’s changes are reflected in this production.

About the Cast

Diana Huey stars as Ariel. Her 5th Avenue credits include Jasper in Deadland, RENT, MAME and Adventure Musical Theater. Her regional work includes performances at Village Theatre, ACT Theatre, Seattle Children’s Theater, Signature Theatre, Milwaukee Repertory Theater, Flat Rock Playhouse, Prospect Theatre and Playwrights Horizon. Huey has been seen on TV in Leverage, The Glee Project and is heard on TV as New Day Northwest’s theme-song singer. She is a Helen Hayes Award Winner for Best Leading Actress for Signature Theatre’s Miss Saigon.

Matthew Kacergis makes his 5th Avenue debut as Prince Eric. His work has been seen at Village Theatre in Les Misérables (Marius), Billy Elliot (Tony), Chasing Nicolette (Aucassin) and Anne of Green Gables (Gilbert Blythe). Other regional credits include Pride and Prejudice (Mr. Wickham) at La Mirada Theatre, Parade (Frankie/Young Soldier) and The Civil War (“Tell My Father”) at Ford’s Theatre, Spring Awakening (Melchior) and Cinderella (Prince Christopher) at Olney Theatre Center. Jennifer Allen joins the cast as Ursula in her 5th Avenue debut. Off-Broadway, he was seen in Johnny Guitar and Frankenstein. Additional directing credits include a new production of Dragapella (nominated for Drama Desk and Lucille Lortel Awards for Best Production), Beauty and The Beast and Peter Pan (Broadway and National Tour). His TV work includes The Faculty and The Wayans Bros.

About the Choreographer

John MacInnis’ choreography credits include European productions of Disney’s The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast. He was associate choreographer of Something Rotten!; Aladdin and The Book of Mormon on Broadway. MacInnis was director and choreographer of the Olympic Medals Ceremonies for the 2002 and 2010 Olympic Winter Games. He was the director/choreographer of The Radio City Christmas Spectacular including the first international production in Mexico City, Mexico. He has been seen on stage in Curtains; Thoroughly Modern Millie; Kiss Me Kate; Steel Pier; How to Succeed in Business…; Guys and Dolls; Jerome Robbins’ Broadway and Me and My Girl on Broadway.

Colin R. Freeman has over 30 theater credits in both US and UK including: Annie, Annie Get Your Gun, Anything Goes, Assassins, Cats, Cinderella, Chess, Disney’s The Little Mermaid, Forever Plaid, Grease, Guys and Dolls, Gypsy, Harmony, Jesus Christ Superstar, My Fair Lady, Sweet Charity and The Wizard of Oz. His varied concert work has taken him from recording for the BBC to conducting many of the principal U.S. and Canadian symphony orchestras including the Pittsburgh, Rochester, Ottawa, Calgary, Utah, St. Louis and Minnesota symphony orchestras. Freeman has worked as an arranger and orchestrator for Lorna Luft, Barry Manilow, Rod Stewart and Hal Linden among others. He is a Los Angeles Ovation Award winner, and Desert Theatre League winner for Best Musical Direction.
