maybe we're all just taking 100yq the wrong way by having so high expectations. maybe we should remember that it is a spin off after all, and that the main series is done done, like, 100yq is not a real sequel but more of a side story? the main goal is the quest and that's why the relationships (friendships) between the characters seem kinda dull, the interactions are less interesting and the angst isn't half as good as in the main series. maybe it's just how it's supposed to be : a fun spin-off, siding to the main series, here for us to keep enjoying the universe mashima has created. maybe there's nothing more relevant to add to any characterisation. and we can simply consider the real ending being the one in the main series.

for instance, the latest one shot released in july about natsu felt 10 times more in-character and vibing with the main series than 100yq does. the morals behind every actions and the funny interactions were realer than in 100yq.

Fun fact: I actually wrote a fic about them adopting children (well Jerza, Nalu, and Elfever) if anyone is interested in that :)

Nalu

Lucy is literally stressed out the whole time

Natsu is pretty chill but his protectiveness has tripled

Lucy is the strict parent and Natsu is the fun one, but he will back Lucy up when needed

Unfortunately because of his heightened senses, Natsu really struggles with the baby crying. It's way louder for him and even hurts when he's holding the baby (too close to the ears)

Natsu struggles to sleep too. One because of the baby waking him up, but also because he is super protective and wakes up multiple times a night just to check on the baby (Lucy also doesn't sleep through the night but Natsu more so)

Lucy cheats and summons her spirits to help look after the baby. It really helps the new parents get time to rest (and also her spirits love the little baby so its a win win)

While they take turns working, Lucy usually stays home more. She knows Natsu needs to get out all his energy and she has no problem being a stay at home mom (at least for a little bit)

Gruvia

Juvia is literally always crying. Everything the baby does causes Juvia to burst into tears

Gray is in love. He's literally always cooing over the baby

They fight over who has to be the strict parents because both of them wanna be the fun one. Usually Juvia ends up as the strict one

Gray worries so much about the baby that he spends most nights sleeping in the nursery. Juvia keeps a spare blanket and pillow in there now, just so he can be more comfortable

The entire house is covered in toys (and other baby things). It has completely taken over their lives

Neither of them wanna work because they want to spend as much time with their baby as possible (unfortunately they have to so they take turns and only take simple jobs)

Juvia knits cute little onesies for the baby. She makes little dolls too. The dolls match the onesies. Its adorable

Jerza

Erza is super prepared and can literally handle any baby issue (throw up, diaper, teething, etc). She's got everything

Jellal on the other hand is always panicking. The baby hiccups? He's freaking out about if he has to go to the ER

Erza bought so many clothes for the baby. She treats them like a little doll and is always playing dress up

They are both the strict parents. Not terribly but they raise their child to behave (tho both are known to give in to the puppy dog eyes)

Jellal cries a lot. He cried when he found out Erza was pregnant, cried when the baby was born, cried when they brought the baby home, etc (he never thought he'd have a life like this)

For the first couple months after the baby is born, Jellal tries to do as much as possible because he wants Erza to rest (she did do all the hard work for nine months so it's only fair that he steps up after birth)

Somehow their home is always clean and they both always look well rested (well Jellal has permanent eye bags but that's just his normal sleep depravation). No one knows how they are so put together with a newborn

Gajevy

Gajeel is that dad that is always talking about his baby. He's always showing pictures, will turn any conversation into a baby story, and in general cannot go five minutes without talking about his baby

Levy did so much research before the baby was born. She bought literally anything and everything the books recommended

Unfortunately that means when something happens that wasn't in the book, Levy panics

Gajeel also has issues with his heightened senses. Levy takes pity on him when it comes to diaper changes (Gajeel has thrown up from particularly foul ones)

Gajeel tried to do that thing where you make the baby listen to music in the moms stomach, but it was his singing. Levy would come up with every excuse in the book for this not to happen

He does sing to the baby now, but Levy finds it adorable and likes to listen (his voice is more suited for lullaby's)

Levy reads to the baby every night. Her book picks vary from actual kids books to textbooks but the baby doesn't know the difference anyway

❤️ Mission: Be a couple! 💙

Context: A mission from Fairy Tail 2 game, in order to get the "Golden Book" Jerza, Nalu, Gajevy & Gruvia need to infiltrate a restaurant, but the chef only accepts "Lovey dovey couples" so they go as couples.

By a casualty, Levy and Jellal are looking for the same book, the "Golden Book". Levy bc of curiosity and Jellal bc a scholar he knows asked him to investigate it. So, they all go in a mission.

They realized the book is in the hands of a chef, so after some work they do for the chef, he awards them with one meal for two, but be only accepts lovey dovey couples in his restaurant.

Then, they have to choose a couple to infiltrate:

NALU

Natsu says he will go with Happy but Lucy explains him that Happy doesnt count bc is not a human, then Natsu ask Lucy to go with him, she gets all flush for the implication but Natsu adds "after all, they are team" 😭

Nalu fails bc Natsu is unable to think anything outside the meal and is impossible for him to act like a "date/boyfriend" even Lucy tried to imaging him acting like one and she find that kinda weird, at the end the chef realized they are lying kicks them out of the restaurant.

GAJEVY

Levy says that she and Gajeel are "also a team" so they could infiltrate as a couple too.

The dinner goes well, she helps him to clean his face and everything but then Gajeel eats the silverware and refuses to apologize, they start to fight between each other and the chef realized they are lying & kicks them out of the restaurant.

GRUVIA

Then Juvia says that she and Gray are perfect for the mission and they should go, Gray doesnt want too but Juvia is Juvia and he goes.

Before the dessert the chef starts to be suspicious, Gray almost tells the true but Juvia tries to fix it & askd Gray to act like a lovey dovey couple & tries to feed him, Gray is uncapable of it, the lie is over, the chef kicks them out of the restaurant.

JERZA

Jellal takes the lead and shily asks Erza to go with him as a couple, she shily -but inmediatly- accepts to go with him.

They finish even the dessert & the chef almost drops hot tea over Erza, Jellal protects Erza from the tea but fall all over her in a "problematic" position, then they get all shy a start apologizing to esch other, the chef see them all shy & awkard with each other and the lie is over, the chef kicks them out from the restaurant.

At the end they all fail, and they get the book by beating the chef. The book was the chef romantic poetry book. Super bad poetry by the way. Lol.

as a nalu stan through and through its really starting to piss me off now that literally every single couple is getting development BUT nalu.

every single ship is getting constant scenes to show they either are already together, gajevy, and how theyre thriving. or how other ships, jerza and gruvia, are starting to realise their feelings and are slowly becoming more than friends.

nalu has for sure been the ship the fandom has been obsessed with the longest, and on top of that its also one of if not the most desired ship in the entire show, so why is it that we’re living off of small looks between eachother or one saying the others name or vise versa. i understand natsu and lucy are the two characters that are the most dense with their feelings and love in general. but like…cmon.

surely its about time the two of them start to understand how they feel. even just slightly. we havent had any real nalu moments since what? like the beginning of the 100 yrs quest with the hug after natsu loses control.

one of the main reasons i love ft so much is FOR nalu and their relationship. my patience is really starting to grow thinner and thinner every time a new chapter is released or a new arc is finished and every other couple has development while nalu has none.

its clear hiro wants nalu to be his final send off, but can he atleast not begin their development sooner than later. i cant express how disappointed me and half of the nalu fandom will be if they both dont come together until the final chapter EVER of the series while every other couple has moments upon moments under their belt to celebrate once the show is done. while we nalu fans have countless of moments from the main show, and about? 3? from the spin off.

Naming headcannons for the main ship's kids that nobody asked for (no gruvia though I'm sorry but I don't have any ideas for them)

Nalu

- Lucy would want to name one of her kids Layla I firmly believe that

- I don't agree with most names I see cuz it seems like most of the time it's just a remix of the names natsu or Lucy HOWEVER Luna is literally just nalu in reverse and that is too fucking funny to me not to include

- I think that a lot of the names Lucy would like would be things from story books she read when she was younger, I imagine her kids names would be Shakespearean (not unheard of in fairy tail ie. titania) or from some other famous literature.

- this is kind of a weird one but for some reason I firmly believe all of the names they would like would be 2 syllable ones, nothing more or less I don't know why but it feels right.

-Natsu is a little harder to imagine what he would like as a name but I think honestly as long as it sounded good like was a good sounding word he'd be happy.

I think they'd like the name hana, no reason why I just think they would

Gajevy

- as opposed to the nalu 2 syllable names I think they're kids would all have very short, one syllable, names. It just feels right.

- I think the names for their kids would be made up words. As in names that don't exist. This is because the names they like would all be in ancient dead languages that levy studies or in ancient draconic which gajeel has been learning (in my head its real)

- if they end up having twins like in the mashima art I think.levy would name one kid and gajeel would name the other

- I like the sound of the word Chen, idk what it would mean but it's sounds right so fuck it it means smth cool af in draconic

Jerza

- this is a little unrelated but honestly I think they'd have the most kids because they adopt almost exclusively, these 2 are building a fucking sports team, single handedly running orphanages out of business.

- also I think they'd keep erzas last name, all their kids would have the last name scarlet because it's special to both of them in a way and jellal likes it.

- oldest kid is def named simon I do not take criticism

- other names would all be star based names that jellal thought of (He is in charge of naming because erzas idea of a good name is like bladestorm the obliterator or smth)

- Rigel, Carina and Juno are some names I think they'd use HOWEVER every single fucking kid has a middle name that is some kind of weapon because erza needs to win at least a little.

Nalu

Get angry with me all you can, but they don't have a lot of children, oddly enough Nasha is one of the few in the guild who were planned.

Natsu is totally a girls daddy, it's the vibe.

They have Nasha after getting married, she is the spitting personality of Natsu, but learned to like books like Lucy.

They had some false alarms and when it really happened the pregnancy was hard for Lucy and the baby.

They got scared to try again, and Lucy was brokenhearted because she knew Natsu would want more despite him constantly saying that Nasha would be more than enough.

After at least two years they end up adopting a baby boy they rescued on a mission.

The boy is almost as chaotic as Nasha, but is more calculating than his impulsive sister.

The two fight a lot, Lucy is the rigid parent who makes them stop, Natsu is the one wrapped around their fingers, and gets scolded together.

Despite fighting, the kids are very close, play together all the time and protect each other a lot.

When the kids are sad and wanna talk about it they go to Lucy, when they just wanna be held they go to Natsu.

Both times when the kids arrived the spirits were very eager to meet then but waited, except for Aquarius, she used her own energy, and brought gifts, but she also said they were very ugly.

Even though Natsu and Lucy don't have other kids, they would be parental figures to any lonely children who come across their life, and are the favorite uncle and aunt for most of the guild kids.

Gruvia

They have three at max, none planned as Gray was insecure about being a parent.

Gray cried at every single birth.

Juvia is a boys mother and is very jealous of all her kids.

Gray is the parent who puts then on tracks, and so he receives all the hate.

Greige was born months before Nasha, and has the shy nature of his mother .

The middle child is a girl, and if they have a third one would be a boy.

The girl is the princess of the house and is very spoiled, she has Gray infinite devotion.

Gajevy

Those two have at least five. None was planned.

As in the twin trouble novel Asuka seems to be at her mid/late teens, and the twins look six at most, I believe they are not the firsts but the second to born (I couldn't read the full novel to know more).

The first one is a girl, definitely born to defy Gajeel in every possible way, going further enough to ask Natsu some Dragon slayer tricks.

The twins are much more level headed than the firstborn, but Yajee is more impulsive than Jutla.

The fourth and fifth kids are the mischief ones, doing mess and troubling Levy, they also have different magic from their parents.

The fourth and fifth are closer to Natsu and Lucy's boy due to age closeness. When the three are quiet for too long it means they are making some trouble.

Both Gajeel and Levy are good at controlling their kids, but Gajeel does it by being strict and Levy does by tricking the kids, it works better with the more hot-headed ones.

All their kids know that Gajeel is soft-hearted about them getting hurt, so if they do trouble they come crying for him first, because if Levy learns she will be angry, and an angry Levy is a scary one.

Jerza

They only have one child

They are both scared of having children, cus of their bad childhood, Jellal never interacted much with kids and Erza tends to scare them.

Both are very protective.

Their son was an accident that happened on their honey moon.

Was a happy accident though.

He is very smart and takes after Jellal more, being closer to Erza on the aspect of being a good leader.

He is closer to age to the oldest of Gajeel and Levy, so the duo control the kids brawls in the guild hall.

The boy is also very independent from a young age, and Jellal is always scared of not being present enough for him.

Erza tries to be subtle but she loves to say how proud she is of her boy.

As Erza gets older she takes after Makarov when she becomes the master and develops a kind of motherly feeling to the younger generations of the guild, so subtlety she gets a lot of kids.

CobraxKinana

Have only one boy, who very fiercely loves Fairy Tail.

They have him some years after their wedding, the kid would be closer to the twins age.

Cobra didn't want kids, as they make much noise, but accepts because of Kinana, so he would be one of few planned ones.

She is a very dedicated mother, and the type who only stopped working when was due to labor, and returned very early on too.

Kinana would come to work with the baby wrapped in cloth like a kangaroo and it was the sweetest sight at the guild.

Elfgreen

They have two, I don't care gender.

In a very cartoonist way one is the spitting image and personality of Elfman, and the other of Evergreen.

Evergreen loves to brag about how awesome and handsome her kids are.

She also likes to dress up then, uncle Bixlow likes too.

Elfman engages in any stupid ideas the kids have.

Both kids are scared of Laxus, and he got offended by it.

Mira spoils her nephews/nices a lot, but none the parents have the guts to ask her to stop, so anytime the kids wants something and the parents don't give, they run to aunty Mira.

As the kids grew Elfman and Ever become the type of parents that the kids ask them to grow up.

Bonus:

Characters I believe would be a single parent, either by adoption, having a child without contacting or knowing the father, or the child simply appears years later (like Cana to Gildarts).

Cana: adopted.

Bixlow: simply appeared, no one questions who the mom is, just how the kid will survive .

Laki: def don't know the father.

Lyon: appeared.

Kagura: adopted two girls from Mermaid Heel.

Hibiki: adopted, but everyone suspects the blood relation.

I know that we Fairy Tail fans have seen the heartbreaking scene where Future Lucy comes in to warn her friends about the future during the tournament games season

But now I'm thinking about the next gen team accidentally traveling back in time to their parents' younger years before they were all born due to a mission gone wrong.

Like, imagine if Nalu's daughter Nasha and her team, who was the son of Gruvia, the son of Jerza, the daughter and son of Gajevy, and the daughter of miraxus all time traveled to the past and they're in their teen years trying to get their parents help to go back to their time.

During that duration of time, these kids get to know their parents and start revealing a few things about the future to not just them but some of their guild mates as well.

Like how young Romeo looks and how wendy and him are a very awesome duo in the future, and how cute Asuka looks in their parents' time and how young she looks despite them literally growing up knowing Asuka as an older sister figure similar to Wendy and how powerful Asuka becomes in the future.

I also genuinely want to see all the parents reaction to their kids being on the same team together. I have no doubt in my mind that Natsu and Gray would be on a whole other level of helicopter dads as soon as they see their kids and Erza just being such a proud mother.

I can also genuinely see Nasha having both her father's competitive spirit, his devotion, loyalty, and temper, but also her mother's intelligence and creativity and looking like a mix of both her parents. Gruvia's son, i can see being the distant quiet distant mysterious one with a major crush on Nasha. Jerza's son takes after both his parents but is more like erza when it comes to Nasha being unstable and reckless. Miraxus's daughter, i can see being completely like both of her parents when they were waaay younger and was probably the most sassiest, aggressive, and yet iconic people you'll ever meet. Gajevy's children, i can see both having that punk rock yet soft grunge aesthetic. I can also see Gajevy's kids being the most smartest people in the group, but due to their appearance, you would never expect it. Gajevy's son, i can see having his dad's attitude but also having his mother's brains and love for a good book. Gajevy's daughter, i can see having her mom's upbeat attitude and personality, but her dad's Rockstar spirit. She would also be a literal rockstar, playing guitar and singing like gajeel taught her. The only difference is the guild actually likes her singing

2. Laxus and Erza (+Freed) have the same brother-sister vibe as Juvia and Gajeel. They fight but care for each other. They once had a fight over Mira. It was Mira's bday (the one after lisanna "died")and Laxus wanted to give Mira a pic of lisanna, Freed actually tied Laxus up (😏) bc Erza was getting sentimental over the pic

3. Gray and Mira have a bet going on who confesses first in NaLu. Gray bets on Lucy and Mira on Natsu. Erza thinks Happy will push them to confess( i think shes right tbh)

4. Mira and Lisanna give Lucy tips on love. Kindaaa hinting on natsu. Lucy is smart but VERY stupid when decoding signals abt love.

I shortly summarized why i don’t like Jerza a while back

Gajevy is kinda boring and it developed forcefully and out of nowhere, one day Gajeel was hanging the team shadow gear to a tree and the next day Levy had already forgiven him and was crushing on him like girl stand up

+ I hate how Levy’s character went from being important in the earlier seasons and actually having a personality to being reduced to a love interest once Mashima decided to pair her up with Gajeel for some reason

As for Nalu, it’s not that i don’t like them, I just can’t see them as more than friends. This may be a little petty but i think the two main protagonists of a manga about friendship shouldn’t end up together in the end. Kinda crushes the whole point lmao

And then there’s Gruvia man…

They could’ve handled it way better if they’d just put in the effort. Instead, we got the obsessed stalker trope… and apparently everyone’s ok with that. Sigh.

“It’s canon now” i don’t care, being canon doesn’t make something immune to criticism and saying that Gruvia is just straight up bad writing is common sense i fear

Juvia’s character’s only purpose is to be in love with Gray. No other personality trait whatsoever. Take her out of the story and nothing would really change except for some of the ‘comic relief’

Mashima literally had to force Gray’s personality into doing a 180 in 100yq for him to start liking Juvia

Since you asked which ships I like, I suppose you mean the popular ones and not the rarepairs, I have way too many of those lmao.

My favorite ‘popular’ ship with Gray is Graylu; I like Gratsu too but not that much for it to be one of my favorites
