remus slid a plate of pancakes across the table, along with a big old cup of sirius' personal poison-the earl gray. the cup is brightly maroon, chipped from the edges as it touches his lips. sirius takes a small sip, letting the liquid burn down his throat.

'you still got it.' sirius chuckles. remus bemused, scoffs. he slides his long fingers into his sandy locks before answering.

'eat. put some flesh within your madness.'

'well you'd know all about the madness within the flesh, wouldn't you?' he says.

'you never came, sirius. the letter. i showed up and stayed there for about two hours, waiting for you.' sirius gulps before answering him.

'i ended up into a pub. i don't know why or how, but i did. the question is how did you get here?' remus moves his lips to answer, but when you enter the room, coddling with the little owl perched on your shoulder, he thinks better of it.

'he is asking me how i came here.' the owl nips at your ear before flapping it's wings and sitting beside sirius' plate, taking away little nibbles from his pancakes.

'well... i'm working on trying to justify the prejudice against half-breeds. i can't directly do it since i don't have the position in the ministry to, but for that i need a few statements. remus is the only werewolf i knew so.. well i've been in contact with him. that is basically the root of why me and remus know each other.'

'so you're just an angel from heaven.' sirius replies, taking another bite.

'i don't care who is who, padfoot. i need to know what happened.'

'james made peter the secret-keeper the last moment, upon my wishes. he faked his own death to frame me for the murders he committed. the bastard cut off his own finger-apparently the only thing they found from that night.'

'so you're not to blame?'

'no. you know i'd rather die than kill james! he was my family!' he exclaimed. he dropped the fork onto the plate.

'you know, i suspected you to the spy' he whispered, almost ashamed. you could see blood rush underneath his pale skin as tears welled into his eyes. the thought of getting back an old friend was of great joy to him. the thought of not being lonely again was hauntingly beautiful.

'you look like you're about to pass out, sweetheart.' sirius commented, huffing on your state. your papers were spread across the table, your hands stained with ink as you went through the necessary documents. remus had already left for home, leaving you to nurture for him. sirius had taken a nap after his breakfast, leaving you with enough time to sit alone with your thoughts.

'i know.' you replied. with tired limbs, your stretched your aching body. having sleepless nights wasn't of much absurdity to you. you'd spent endless of sleep less nights practicing your spells to be at the position you were. to be an auror at twenty four wasn't something of a joke, yet you'd managed to do it just the same.

even if that meant losing friends and family.

'what are you doing anyway?' he asked. he walked around the table, sitting in front of you. he was carrying a dark blue cup, steam pouring out the rim.

'i'm looking over the things i require and how many people's shoes i have to lick to change a few laws,' you answered, your eyes averting to his form as you answered. his loose linen white shirt was unbuttoned, revealing an intricate design of tattoos on his chest. black sweatpants hung on narrow hips. you could see tattoos emerging from the expanse of the skin on his legs too.

'are you feeling better now?' you asked, collecting your spread out sheets in an orderly fashion. sirius nodded.

'i am, thanks to you and moony.' you packed your things into your bag, handing him a little piece of paper.

'here's my address, sirius. if you need me, you can write to me. your owl will find me'

'are you leaving now?' he asked, looking at the piece of paper tucked into his palm.

'yes.' you said. a brief moment of sadness flashed on his face before he quipped you with another request.

'stay, you're tired.'

'no, i...i'm not' you answered, trying to stifle a yawn half way through your statement. it leaves your lips anyways. he smiles, in a comforting manner, as he rests his face on his palm.

'you're a pathetic liar,' he states, 'you can rest here as long as you want to. i have a free room down the hall.' nervously, you rub the back of your head, trying to avoid the burning gaze upon you.

'that would be of major inconvenience-i don't think-' before you realize, has his index finger on your lips. how he got up from the chair to be standing in front of you with such fast agility was a mystery.

'it is not of any inconvenience, i assure you. it's an extra room! for guests! you're a guest aren't you?' he said. you couldn't quite meet his eyes, afraid you'd be lost in the depth of them.

'i- uh- you're hungover-'

'sweetheart, look me in the eye and tell me if i'm hungover.' he said, sliding a finger under your jaw. you looked into his eyes, trying not to get lost in them.

'i- okay you win. i'll rest,'

'see, i told you! you should listen to me more often.' that earned a tired laughter out of you.

Cellphone spying! TDA Edition (;TWP)

(I'll be asking this same question to respective other sub-fandoms in the Shadowhunter community so that we have a net-profit of fantastic phone snooping of our own favs)

What are their most used apps, their background photos, their favourite social media, and do they have a pop socket or a special kind of case? etc.! Let's get started!

Regarding the Cellphone-Spying

This is an Answer-Post to a really nice & intriguing question I received from @emmalovesfitzloved.

I really don’t know how freaking long this answer-post will be, so I hope y’all are in for this ride!

We’re starting off with Kit, since he's definitely one of my favorite characters and also one for whom I have lots of personal head canons & theories, which will make this a lot easier. He was also the first one that came to mind!

I also made some categories to please my perfectionistic, organization-obsessed brain. Hopefully, it’ll make everything look less long & intimidating.

The Outside

So, first of all, Kit definitely has an IPhone. I'm thinking maybe 11 or 12 model-wise, and for sure either a blue or silver one (though the light blue one is the most obvious choice for sure)

He would have one of these weird-ass clear cases with the circle thingy, the only reason being that everybody else uses those as well, and he didn't really feel the need to stand out (at least not through his choice of phone case??)

Also, he is one of those people who store absolutely everything in their phone case. Keys, money, hair clips (for Mina), chewing gum, guitar picks (my kit-attempts-to-play-the-guitar-headcanon is very strong), a paper heart (from either Ty or Mina, you decide) and random pieces of garbage

All his wallpapers, not matter if we're talking home- or lock screen, are always pictures of him with his loved ones. Always. Ty basically lives on his lock-screen rent-free at this point.

In terms of accessories, I will definitely stand by the fact that he uses very old, partly damaged wired headphones (instead of listening to his boyfriend!) and is very stubborn about it. He also uses a pop socket, either one of those black-and-white checked ones or one with some sort of comic or movie reference.

The Inside

Apps

He has an average amount of apps, mostly socials and unnecessary games he downloaded because of advertisements but never really uses.

There isn't really an organization to them (like color-coded or something); he just lets them be where they are.

Most used Apps: WhatApp, YouTube and Google (pretty basic)

Personalization

Alarms: He actually only needs like three alarms, the first one being the most annoying sound ever (summit), and the others just in case.

Ringtone: He definitely had a duck-one at some point, simply out of spite and to scare Jace.

People

The people he texts the most are Ty and Dru. I would actually even say that he and Dru have more messages together than he and Ty, for numerous reasons. One of them being the fact that their chats contain many many playful arguments which result in tons of short messages and emoji-spams. Also, Ty isn't really a texter in my mind, and the two of them are around each other the whole time anyway.

In terms of who he calls the most, it's definitely Ty and Tessa, who's also his #1 Emergency Contact. Kit calls Tessa a lot, not only to talk to Mina who does not have a phone, but also just to check in, get advice or just talk for a bit. Him and Ty do both normal calls and video calls, but only if they're away from each other, normally, which doesn't happen too frequently. But when it does, they'll be calling each other a lot!

Group Chats, whew. This is gonna be a long one😅 There is, of course, a family group chat with Jem, Tessa and Kit, that'll have Mina in it later. Just a basic one, I would say, where he always replies (like the good son he is). He's also definitely in a chat with the whole Blackthorn-Family (in which he's mostly active through weird emoji-reactions) and the TWP-Gang (which he keeps muted A LOT, mostly because of Dru). And then there's a really unnecessary Herondale Group Chat, which Jace thinks is very important (it only has him and Kit in it at the moment; they're waiting for eventual children to add😭).

Ooooooh, WIP game!!

I'm curious about Let Your Belief Kill You (sounds suuuuper interesting!!!!) and the Worst Friends Forever fic (I am so on board with Boston and Ray actually being friends and prepared to go down together, and if you want to write something about how it would tie into wine-stained as well then please do!!)

Omg I have hardly ever gotten any asks so I'm so glad to get this!

So Let Your Belief Kill You is about a world where the apocolypse is slowly starting, different people and different areas reporting the signs, only reports of what happened widely differ from person to person even if they were together the whole time in the chaos. The thing is, the kind of apocolypse you experience depends on what you believe in. If you believe in a god that speaks about the end of the world as floods, that's what you choke on, if you believe in another god who says the world ends in flames, fire would be what you feel. But it's not just religion, because even if you don't believe in any god, you still believe in something. You believe in science and technology? Enjoy your robat take over. You think medicine will be the future of the world? Oh look zombies! You have no choice but to believe because humans need something to guide their life, and that belief will kill you. Enjoy dying by the hands of your god :)

The story deals with a group of people in this world who are trying to stop the apocolypse from full on happening (or are they?) And also the powerful people of this world, such as gods' preachers or businessmen, who try to reach their goals by manipulating people's beliefs.

Worst friends forever: my shitty babies! I love this story so much. So basically this was born out of one conversation in the bl server. We were discussing how Boston and Ray just got eachother in a way the others could, and that unlike others their friendship wasn't based on pity or judgement. Ray didn't give a fuck if Boston liked to sleep around and Boston only cared about having to drop Ray off, not about him destroying himself. They both got that the other had stuff going on, so they just co-existed without judging eachother for their 'bad behaviours'. Also, in the show we got the info that boston often drove Ray home and that boston told Ray everything about his hook ups. My fic was born out of the desire to see these two have a wholesomely toxic relationship where they have eachother's back while also enabling bad decisions. It's definitely a very dark and even grossly graphic fic I'm writing, but it's a challange and I love it. So I give to you: worst friends forever, a fic where boston is Ray's emergency contact!

Wine stained will no longer be mixed into this, although Sand will have a very important part and is the other major player. However it will be another work where Sand and Yok are kinda the same person, and Sand gets his newest project which is to design something the opposite of his last one, which was showing the pain and scars in the nude body of the poor. What will it be?? Portraying clothes as a way for the rich to hide those pains and scars (also, clothes as a veil. Clothes as a disguise to be something you're not. Clothes as armor)

Now that you've posted your story and are right at the beginning of your fiction writing journey, what advice would you give yourself from the art side of things? (Both creative pursuits are art! And both show some vulnerability to share.)

Ooo fun! Let's see... Under a cut because it's long and stuff!

Art that I'm still proud of.

Everything just went right here, I got the glow effects and the ambience exactly how I wanted it. Plus his eyes move if you move your head. Also was my first time drawing/painting Nerevarine Teldryn and I kinda got hooked on this whole design. He lives in either Netch Leather or Chitin most of the time so... Plus obsessed with his hairstyle. Obsessed!

I came up with half his backstory doing this, right down to the scarring on Teldryn's arm being Dagoth Gares' handprint. The point of contact literally being Dagoth Gares grabbing Teldryn's arm and cursing him before dying. Plus the whole "ring doesn't fit" thing. I thought that would be fun after drawing Nerevar (who is physically small but huge personality-wise).

I still love this one to bits because I fully cemented how I want Sydari to look, her jewellery, clothing colour etc. She's very into finery, so everything she wears is highly embellished. Also, eyes move if you move your head. The portrait just worked! It just works. :D

As for writing, I'm still very proud of this scene from On Apocrypha.

Teldryn was pacing outside Sydari’s room, he could barely gleam what was going on in there and silently cursed the thickness of the adobe walls. He knew Aphia was badmouthing him again, he deserved it, sure but did she have to remind him of his failures every time they met? It was getting tiresome.

The door opened and Geldis emerged, holding a bowl of stew that he must have intended for him. Teldryn walked towards him, about to ask what had transpired when Geldis lifted his hand, motioning for Teldryn to follow him into the bar.

“What did she say?” Teldryn began as Geldis scrapped the now cold stew into the food bin.

“It’s not good Teldryn,” Geldis shook his head “It’s some sort of Daedric magic that’s keeping her like that, you’re definitely gonna need Neloth.”

Teldryn let out the breath he hadn’t realised he’d been holding, “I guess… I was hoping to avoid having to interact with him directly”.

“I know, but Aphia thinks this is Hermaeus Mora’s doing,” Geldis threw the dirty bowl into a large, waterfilled basin, “You know Neloth is the only one who can help here”.

“I know, I just…” Teldryn began before Geldis cut him off.

“You feel bad leaving her, I know” Geldis pulled a clean bowl out from behind the counter and filled it with more stew before placing it in front of Teldryn. “Eat”.

“I’m not hungry,” Teldryn mumbled, that was a lie.

“Bullshit,” Geldis dropped a clean spoon next to the stew, “you’re starving, you’re tired and you stink like rotted fish.”

“Well, you don’t have to put it that bluntly,” Teldryn sighed, absent-mindedly taking the spoon.

“Just eat the damn food Teldryn, you’re no good to anyone in this state,” Geldis said, pulling a bottle of shein out from under the bar along with two earthenware mugs.

“Did Drovas make this?” Teldryn questioned, a disgusted look on his face, “You know everything he makes is bland as all hell,” he continued eating.

“No, you just don’t have any tastebuds anymore,” Geldis smirked sliding a full mug of shein across the counter. “Not everyone wants their ass burning after their meals, ya know,” he smirked before ducking under the counter.

“His cooking tastes like ash and salt, and you know it,” Teldryn drawled, “that better be some gods damn seasoning you’re fetching”.

“You can’t come storming in here in the small hours of the morning and expect a feast you know,” Geldis smiled before sliding over a small, dark bottle to Teldryn.

“No, but you could have this added to it prior,” Teldryn uncorked the bottle and began pouring the red, oily concoction into what remained of the stew before taking another bite, “Better”.

“I still don’t get your obsession with that, the amount you put in ruins literally everything that’s good about food,” Geldis quipped, taking a drink from his own mug, “Minor remaining side effects of Blight, hey?”

“No, no, it was that crap that Fyr fed me,” Teldryn remarked, scraping the last of his stew from the bowl, “can’t taste shit unless it’s on fire”. Teldryn stood and began moving back towards Sydari’s room.

“Hey! Where do you think you’re goin’?” Geldis called out, “Leave Aphia to do her damn job!”

Teldryn muttered something unsavoury under his breath before stamping back towards the bar, “I don’t want her alone in there,” he whispered, more to himself than anyone else.

“She’s not, Aphia is there trying to do her damned job, you’re not helping her by hovering,” Geldis poured another drink for the two of them, “You have somewhere to be anyways”.

“I’d really rather not- “Teldryn began, Geldis raised his hand “Shh, you hear that?”

Teldryn paused, he could hear murmuring coming from down the hall. He almost sprinted to the source of the noise, Geldis not far behind. He arrived at the still-closed door to Sydari’s room and listened. More murmuring, two voices, hers.

“Teldryn, don’t” Geldis grabbed Teldryn’s arm right as he threw open the door.

It was fun to explore the lack of taste quirk. I'll be playing with it a lot more but I came up with that idea when writing this scene. He needed 5 seconds to calm down here. I'll add this to either the end of part 1 or the start of part 2 of Serious Mistakes, but I will probably edit what's here so that I get Geldis' voice more consistent with what's written in the chapter I already have up. It was the first thing I ever released and I still feel good about it.

I have a few hang-ups confidence-wise when releasing any creative work. I'm learning/telling myself to not give as much of a crap about the things I see as failings because honestly, it's only stuff that I see. No one else sees that. I think I'm doing ok with writing deep down, the damn thing has been rolling around in my brain for almost a year now so it's not like I'm writing without some idea of what's going on later in the story.

My advice to myself is to engage with the people who engage with you. If someone likes what you create, take the time to thank them. I reread a lot of comments because it makes me smile. It also makes me happy that people are noticing the little character quirks that I work into my art and writing. Things aren't always said directly, mostly implied. I like that people are examining my pieces enough to notice. I highly encourage people to zoom in on these arts! There are a lot of details in there.

It's nice to have some positivity after decades of negative reactions to my specific interests. Not giving a crap about the negativity is a goal! The fic deals with a lot of hard topics and I intend on exploring them fully. If it's not comfortable then that's good, trauma is not comfortable. Mine certainly isn't. Writing about it has helped me distance myself from the issues and heal slightly. I chose to do this for myself specifically, I'm writing something I want to read. And I like dark but funny shit. XD

Currently, my writing and personal art are in a bit of a circular loop, one feeds into the other. So I'm producing scenes that should appear in the fic at some point or are referenced in it in some way. Specifically these:

All kinda revolve around scenes or concepts that happen later on. The first one is after a shipwreck, the second is an observation from Teldryn's POV and the third one is after Teldryn gives Sydari a gift prior to a very boring party that he can't attend...he'd like to attend. He proclaims a thing, and it goes well before imploding due to a few documents that appear in the Thalmor's possession.

I am having a lot of fun here. It's nice to have a hyperfixation to stuff my free time into again. And I'm on holidays until August so...a lot of free time (outside of that other thing I'm working on). XD

Tarantella Documentary Walkthrough

As usual, here is the link to what I will be talking about today. This documentary is in Italian. I could not find the version I have seen with the English subtitles (apologies) but I think the visuals and sounds of the rituals are what matters most. Besides, I'm going to walk you through it below anyway.

In the first 3 minutes of this documentary, the videography lays out the setting that forms the background for the cult. It is hot, the fields have just been harvested, and three women work in the shade of a crumbling church stacking tobacco leaves. The white façade of the church stands out amid the red and black soil. The air is dry. As the women work they sing in the high voice used for worldly matters like love and labor. Work songs themselves are trance inducing by design (same with lullabies and sea shanties) to help the work go by and free the mind from discomfort. Harvest time is when the Brides of the Saint are awakened. It is very much tied to the agricultural cycle and the handling of crops--whatever is being grown in the area, not anything specific. That is when women, who are the ones who do most of the harvesting in this area, are likely to be "pinched" (pizzica)--which is to say struck with a divine madness.

The video then goes on to introduce the musicians who will help the tarantate (the Brides) to reach a point of ecstasy. The music itself has the power to do this both by playing specific traditional melodies and rhythms and also because of the occupations of the musicians themselves and the sympathetic magic they contain. Hair dressing is a traditional form of innate sorcery in many Mediterranean cultures, specifically those who also have spirit traditions. The video then shows you a man drawing water from a well, another act that brings a person into close contact with the spirit world. And then a grave digger, which again... close contact with the spirit world. The video then cuts over to the three men playing possession music for a tarantata (Bride).

The tarantata is secluded behind a curtain where she will remain completely catatonic until the rhythm and melody of the specific spirit that "pinched" her is played. The musicians will not know which one it is the very first time they play for her but each year after they will be able to play it straight away. Either the video is skipping past the tarantata's motionless phase or this is not her first year. A little boy, presumably either her son or one of the musician's, holds an image of the saint that will induce the healing aspect of the ritual. The tarantata emerges, writhing on the ground on her back propelled by what we might call a "crab walk" in English but it is part of the vocabulary of possession for this cult. She wears all white. The rug is white. The cloth she grips is white. And if the musicians are smart they will also wear white because it is the only spiritually neutral color. The tarantata will often seek out and destroy other colors if she sees them, tearing them apart with her hands and teeth.

There is a close-up on the drummer's hand and I want to point out a couple of things about it.  

1. You will note that he has a handkerchief tied around it like a bandage. These are not dainty synthetic drum heads. That is probably goat hide and it will take your flesh off if you sit there and bang on it for hours and hours. There is a self-mortification aspect to this ritual. Not just for the drummer, for all of the musicians. To play past the point of exhaustion and bodily safety is part of the process.  

2. You will also note that he plays in a single-handed style, holding the drum with one hand and beating it with the other. This is significant to the iconographic connection of modern Tarantella and the Dionysian traditions. There are only so many ways to play with one hand.

Shortly after that you see the musicians are gathered very closely around her as she rolls on the rug. They were sitting on stools before she came out from behind the curtain so they have moved into a more active role during this part of the ritual. At this point they are driving the spirit to MOVE. The barber, who is dressed in all white, has the greatest spiritual power of the three--due to his occupation. And you can see him following the tarantata, kneeling down to play next to her ear, and then suddenly she gets up from the floor and starts to run/dance in a small circle in the confined space.

This is the desired outcome. They have to provoke the spirit to rise up so that it can be danced out. At the 7:53 mark she suddenly drops and they stop playing. The family watches from the doorway in concern.
