Reading Habits Tag

Thanks for the tag @wildlynx! I’m tagging back anyone who wants to hop on (and yes! I do mean you!)

i. do you have a certain place at home for reading?

Mostly in bed, as a way to wind down

ii. do you use bookmarks? if so, what kind?

I’ll use the jacket/dustcover if it has one, otherwise I’ll use one of the ones my wife makes (and then I get the bonus of smiling when I open my book and think of her)

iii. can you just stop reading or do you have to make it to the end of the chapter?

I read til the end of teh “moment”. Sometimes that’s midscene, sometimes its the end of the chapter--sometimes the chapter ends but the moment doesn’t and you have to keep reading anyways

iv. do you eat or drink while reading?

It’s less “I always have coffee when I read” and more “I always have coffee”

v. music or tv while reading?

I am usually a “lowgrade background noise required for focus” sort, but when I’m reading, it sucks me in.

vi. one book at a time or several at once?

Usually one per format: audio, paper book, online book. So long as the format is different, my brain can manage it

vii. reading at home or out?

I mostly read paper books at home or on my lunch break, and mostly listen to audiobooks while at work or doing housework

viii. reading out loud or silently?

Either! In fact, I’ve started doing some recordings of my own work for my Patreon, inspired by all the audiobooks I listen to

ix. do you read ahead or skip pages?

I cannot fathom how anyone ever skips ahead! Don’t you feel lost????? (I will skip ahead on re-reads though)

x. breaking the spine?

I neither try nor try not to do this. Books are for reading.

xi. do you write in your books?

Depends on the book! I once marked up three copies of a book I’d read to give to my family members for christmas, and I write in all my pagany  books (usually highlighting the margins for easy reference). For leisure reading, though, I tend to stick to sticky notes
