"I think part of the beauty of that journey for me is seeing that, as a storyteller, I've been able to portray the Black experience in America, from our enslavement to the stars. And LeVar, the Reading Rainbow guy, is absolutely in the middle of that continuum. And so to really plot the trajectory of Black people through time and space in this roughly 20th, 21st century time frame… What a gift. Who gets to do that? I do."

"This is the true joy in life, being used for a purpose considered by yourself as mighty. Being a force of nature, instead of a feverish, selfish little clod of ailments and grievances, complaining that the world will not devote itself to making you happy. I am of the opinion that my life belongs to the whole community. And while I live, it is my privilege to do for it whatever I can. I want to be thoroughly used up when I die. For the harder I work, the more I live. I cherish life for its own sake. Life is no brief candle to me. It's a sort of splendid torch that I've got hold of for the moment. And I want to make it burn as brightly as possible before handing it off to future generations." - Jeff Goldblum paraphrasing George Bernard Shaw
This resonates with me so much. It's both why I spend so little of my time complaining and why I spend so much of my free time contributing to WordPress.

My media this week (2-8 Jun 2024)
📚 STUFF I READ 📚
🥰 The Shabti (Megaera C. Lorenz, author; Matt Haynes, narrator) - wonderfully fun supernatural adventure romance set in the '30s. Just delightful. feat Horatio, a heckin' chonker of a cat. ilu horatio, even if you don't have a neck.
🥰 The Secret Lives of Color (Kassia St. Clair, author & narrator) - {nonfiction} This was rec'd in one of my discord servers as 'If you are ever in the need for a pleasant-sounding British woman telling you Interesting Facts About Colors then may I recommend The Secret Lives of Color by Kassia St. Clair, which is exactly that for 8 hours' and it was precisely that and it was wonderful and soothing and so interesting.
🥰 MateHub: Legend (MateHub #1) (Marie Reynard) - erotic romance about a wolf shifter porn star who finds a Mate™ in his new human co-star. Tropetastic & hot af, exactly what I wanted from a book with this set up. But my fave thing was the absolutely hilarious porn star names: Richard Knotz, our main MC wolf shifter. Hunter Savage, Max Hardwood, Trick Wilde (coyote shifter, natch). I snorted with laughter every time one came up. [really love a book that just knows what it's trying to do and executes beautifully on that premise]
💖💖 +166K of shorter fic so shout out to these I really loved 💖💖
Transcript: Steven Rogers and James ‘Bucky’ Barnes' appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, February 4, 2017 (deliciousblizzardshark) - MCU: stucky, 2.7K - cute & funny
fighting vainly the old ennui (Fahye) - MFMM: phryne/jack, 13K - AU where Phryne's a jewel thief but Jack's just as fascinated [reread]
Love Runs Wild (DevilDoll) - Teen Wolf: sterek, 9.4K - inspired by the shifter porn romance above, had to reread this fantastic story where they're both porn models & Stiles accidentally shows up to work with a hickey. True forever fave.

logging back on for the first time since dts season 6 dropped, how we feelin' f1blr?
i avoided socials like crazy because i didn't want any spoilers, but i just finished the season so i'm officially back, and i'm pretty miffed
putting an extender thingy here bc this is getting long and i don't wanna jam up your dashes too much haha
tl;dr - danica patrick sucks and the season was mid.
first of all, get danica patrick off my fucking screen. she, of all the women reporters they could have picked for this role, was the worst possible pick. give me rachel brookes! give me natalie pinkham! bernie collins (could you imagine??)! any of those fantastic women (or the others i didn't list) would be better than danica fucking patrick.
beyond that, the season was honestly kind of meh. they missed a lot of big plot points (hardly any mention of max's objectively historic run?? love him or hate him, it was something for the record books) for a lot of smaller plot points that really either could have been covered in just a chunk of an episode or were really just made up (e.g. they tried to make us think that liam and yuki weren't friends even though they literally are, and have been since before 2023). like, i get the fanfare of daniel coming back, but they also just did what f1 did and just stopped mentioning nyck ever again, which was so frustrating. it was so abrupt! i was shocked when the credits rolled.
they also just didn't mention qatar at all, which was wild. they could have used 'the shot' of lewis walking in the gravel with george's car going in the background! they could have talked about oscar winning something before lando! they could have talked about max winning the championship and how historic his run was! they could have talked about how fucking hard that race was for everyone on the grid and actually mention logan sargeant for once and show how williams and james vowles took care of him! there were a lot of missed opportunities there. as much as i don't like that race (due to the overwhelming strain it put on the drivers), it was an important one that probably should have been mentioned.
at first, i thought bringing claire williams in was a weird move, but i kind of appreciated her insight as an ex-team principle, similarly to how i appreciate bernie collins' insight during broadcasts. that was a good touch from the netflix team.
two episodes for alpine was too much. i get that there was a lot to go through for them, but they could have sped up the drama and made a super interesting single episode encapsulating both pierre and esteban's animosity (and them making it better) and otmar's departure. if put together, they could have made an engaging plot-twisty episode that would have been super fun to watch.
i also think it was really interesting how they didn't follow aston martin through their midseason fall. they propped them up in the first episode as a team poised to fight at the top, and then we never hear from them until abu dhabi. they mention that they had 'some struggles' throughout the season, but if you spend a whole episode hyping me up for a team, check in with the team at least once throughout the season. that was kind of disappointing that we didn't hear from them again until the end.
i honestly forgot that there were talks of lewis to ferrari in the middle of the season, so that episode was really interesting, especially knowing what we know now. the fact that the team told lewis to his face that he was wrong after a literal decade working together is absolutely bonkers, and i'm starting to understand more as to why he left. i just wish they had included the "hello lewis" moment at the monaco driver conference. they included another bit from the monaco conference, so i'm sad they missed that bit. would've helped with my bingo card tbh.
seeing the ferrari episode (it's like episode 8 or something) just makes me more mad that they dropped carlos. this isn't dts' fault, the episode was actually pretty good (aside from the pitting of charles against carlos, but that kind of comes with the show at this point lol), but seeing everything that carlos did for ferrari just for them to not renew his contract is insanely heartbreaking. back to back poles and a win (the only non-red bull win of the season!), as well as consistently performing incredibly well, bringing in consistent good points for himself and the team. i realize lewis is a seven-time world champion, and this isn't any sort of lewis hate (i actually love that man), but the decision to drop carlos and the manner in which ferrari did it is very infuriating. again, not dts' fault, but seeing the behind the scenes in that episode was so bittersweet.
i really didn't mean for this to get so long, jeez! i just have a lot of frustrations with the season (and honestly kind of the show as a whole, but i'll save this already long-ass rant from that lol). it's an enjoyable watch, but it's weird to think that this is the impression people who don't know f1 will get of the sport and the people inside of it when a lot of it is just plain wrong.
and again, fuck danica patrick. she should not be on that show at all, and i hope she doesn't return for season seven (i'm delusional, she probably will). she also should not be on the sky sports broadcast team, but again, i'm delusional, and she'll probably be around for much longer than jenson or i would like.
#sorry this got so long!#i'm just frustrated#this show has so much potential!#but they just. miss the mark every time#also i hope the keep reading button works#sorry if it doesn't!!#formula 1#drive to survive#i'm not tagging everyone who made an appearance lol#the whole grid#but not even that

Wild Card Podcast With Rachel Martin: Play The Game Of Questions…& Answers
Wild Card With Rachel Martin is, on one hand, a typical NPR podcast -- restrained, thoughtful, reflective -- and, on the other hand, different, playful, probing to the point of noisy, and roguish. Part-interview, part-existential game show – Wild Card from NPR has an interesting premise. Host Rachel Martin rips up the typical interview script and invites guests to play a game about life's biggest questions. Martin takes actors, artists and thinkers on a choose-your-own-adventure conversation that lets them open up about their fears, their joys and how they've built meaning from experience – all with the help of a very special deck of cards. In the first episode on May 1, 2024, Wild Card host Rachel Martin chatted with senior producer Lee Hale about why they wanted to make an existential interview-game podcast and how they came up with the Wild Card questions. It's a smart way to begin the podcast with an inside peek into the thought process surrounding the formation of the podcast.
NPR was smart to pick Rachel Martin for this assignment. Martin is sharp, funny, inquisitive, bold, and engaging. While listeners and critics can throw stones at the NPR podcast model, it has produced a slew of talented podcast hosts -- Audie Cornish, David Folkenflik, Brooke Gladstone, Liane Hansen, and Sam Sanders, to name a few.
Rachel Martin was a producer and reporter for KQED in San Francisco. In 2003, Martin was a freelance reporter in Afghanistan, also for NPR. From 2005 to 2007, she was foreign correspondent for NPR. In 2007, she covered the Virginia Tech shooting. In 2008, she was a correspondent for ABC News. Martin was one of the hosts of NPR's The Bryant Park Project, a New York-based experimental morning news program designed to attract a younger demographic. In 2010, Martin was National Security Correspondent for NPR, during which time she reported on the US' counterinsurgency efforts. She took over as host of Weekend Edition Sunday in 2012, shortly after longtime host Liane Hansen stepped down. She became a co-host of Morning Edition in 2016 when Renée Montagne stepped down. Furthermore, she left the show in early 2023. Having previously worked as the network's religion correspondent from 2006 to 2007, Martin is the creator of Enlighten Me, an NPR special series on religion, spirituality, and meaning.
In the second episode of the podcast, Rachel talked to Jenny Slate, known for her roles in Obvious Child, Marcel the Shell with Shoes On and Parks and Recreation. In the episode, Slade opened up about whether fate brought her to her husband, what she's sacrificed for motherhood, and what's so special about margarine and white bread sandwiches.
One of my favorites was with actor Chris Pine, who told Martin that his directorial debut, Poolman, got "obliterated" by critics. But the Star Trek and Wonder Woman star shares that the experience helped him reevaluate his desire for perfection. Pine also debated predestination with Rachel, reflects on the struggle to feel awe, and discusses his recurring childhood dreams of having tea with an elf in a tree.
The most recent episode welcomes director David Lynch, and, true to his reputation, the Twin Peaks director delves into oddities and weirdness.
NPR also has this subscription service called Wild Card+. You apparently receive access to bonus episodes, and you'll get to listen sponsor-free. If you're interested, you can learn more at plus.npr.org/wildcard.
Wild Card With Rachel Martin takes the interview process and adds a taste of whimsy, chance, gossipy revelations, and removes the standard talking points response often given by celebrities to interviewers.
Martin embraces the concept and has fun with it, as have the interviewed subjects so far. Check it out. It's refreshingly different.

TMA "look how far we've come, who can guess how it'll end but you can't say it hasn't been a wild ride, this is a trailer for the next episode made with no knowledge of what is in the next episode" AMV/trailer thing, that is framed as happening in Jon's mind after the line "Old times weren't so long ago, really" set to Fight Song by Rachel Platten:
Jon, to Basira: “Old times wasn’t actually all that long ago”
Like a small boat (Jon and Basira in the boat, seen at some distance. Perhaps we faintly here Basira’s: “Hmm. Seems it, though.”)
On the ocean (close up? MS? Idk but we are looking at Jon, who is sighing.)
Setting big waves (Jon reading "hello Jon apologies for the deception")
Into motion (Jon and Martin looking at the Sky, which is looking back)
Like how a single word (Jon racing after Martin into the Lonely. Martin, turning to see him)
Can make a heart open (they embrace and leave together)
I might only have one match (a series of clips. Including Martin lighting statements on fire, Tim pressing the button for the Unknowing, and Jon using the web lighter to set the skin book on fire)
But I can make an explosion
(Martin drops a burning statement. Elias's glowering eyes. Tim's final maniacal expression. Wax museum explosion from the outside. Finally, the skin book, aflame, it burns out into blackout)
And all those things (OG!Sasha centered, in a group with the OG Archives crew)
I didn't say (Daisy and Jon, side by side, sitting on the floor)
The wrecking balls (Not!Sasha smiles. Jon frowns)
Inside my brain (Daisy bites Jon's leg)
I will scream them loud tonight (Jon *ceasless watcher turn your gaze*ing in the Stranger's domain)
Can you hear my voice this time? (Helen's shocked face, then a swirl of color and maybe gore as she imploded and dies)
This is my fight song (Martin donning his backpack, taking Jon's hand)
Take back my life song (Jon and Georgie staring at one another in the cult tunnels, then she pulls him into a hug)
Prove I'm all right song (A shot of Jon recording the Anglerfish statement, that fades into current Jon? Idk what to do for this line really but I did want some times older than season 3 in here)
My power's turned on (Melanie hits Jon with her cane, and he realizes "they're going to hilltop road)
Starting right now (Jon running through the London cameras)
I'll be strong (Jon struggling with the oars)
And I don't even care (determined Jon face)
if nobody else (Panipticon)
Believes (Then a shot of Jonah's floating, writhing body)
Cause I've still got/A lot of fight left in me (Jon's eyes. He blinks. In the space of that blink, whatever, I'm not sure. A blur of memories. Things I wanted to fit in here but don’t know where, like giving Martin Prentiss’s ashes, and waking up from the coma, and eating trauma out of people and the intervention for it)
*softer* I've still got (Jon and Daisy's feet cross a visible line. We see Daisy's face, marveling looking at the real sun)
a lot of fight left in me (Jon slumps slightly against her arm)
*song fades out entirely*
Basira: “You’re sure you’re okay to do this?”
Jon: “I’ll be fine.”
Fade to black. A series of title cards appear:
FEBRUARY 25, 2021
MAG 196
TITLE OF EPISODE
Yeah so this came to me last night and I had to write it all down immediately. I honestly think I could easily shot-for-shot storyboard this, but I would have to actually listen to the song for the first time in years to do that, and it wouldn’t matter since I don’t draw and could not make the animatic. But uh, if anyone out there can and wants to...you’re welcome to do so :). Also I think it would be fun to have a matching one of these from Basira’s POV. There’s a lot of stuff even from Jon’s that I’d like to have in here “from old times” but I kind of ended up just going back to season 3 and then moving forward again.

Jeff Goldblum has a special brand of charisma — the kind that seeps its way into all of his roles. Whether it's in The Fly or Independence Day or Jurassic Park — or his newest show KAOS — every character feels like a version of Jeff Goldblum himself. He also brings that Goldblumian charisma to Wild Card, breaking into song as he reflects with Rachel about his life.
He’s such a gem, a national treasure really.

OK, January 4
You can buy a copy of this issue for your very own at my eBay store: https://www.ebay.com/str/bradentonbooks
Cover: Ashton Kutcher haunted by his mistakes
Page 2: Contents
Page 4: Jennifer Garner ready for romance -- Jennifer has proven she’s fine on her own but she’s eager for her happy ending and has even set her sights on some of Hollywood’s most eligible hunks like Chris Evans but seems happily single; she binge-watched Outlander and was totally taken with Sam Heughan and she also finds Martin Henderson very sexy but heard he has a girlfriend
Page 6: After a tumultuous few years Hayden Panettiere’s 2021 is looking bright and she’s been working on herself since her split from toxic ex-boyfriend Brian Hickerson -- she’s taken control of her life and is making good choices -- she’s been able to rebuild her life and her relationship with her daughter Kaya who lives in Ukraine with her dad and next on her agenda is reviving her once-hot career
Page 7: Justin Bieber who’s been a devoted member of the controversial celeb-favored Hillsong Church for years is studying to become a minister -- Justin has long credited Hillsong and especially charismatic and recently fired pastor Carl Lentz for saving him from his dark period of drugs, public meltdowns and arrests -- Justin doesn’t plan to give up his music career but he feels there’s a bigger calling out there for him
* Jessica Simpson has signed deals for both a docuseries and a fictionalized series based on her life but not everyone is so pumped about her tell-all tendencies and least of all is her ex-husband Nick Lachey -- for Nick it’s just dredging up a past that’s better left alone and Nick hopes that Jessica goes easy on him in the scripted series but deep down knows there’s precious little chance of that
* Madonna is majorly inserting herself in her daughter Lourdes Leon’s love life and she’s constantly on the phone asking how things are going between Lourdes and her socialite beau of three years Jonathan Puglia and she wants to know when they’re making things official -- Madonna even pushes for double dates so she can bring her 26-year-old boyfriend Ahlamalik Williams -- Lourdes appreciates how much her mom cares but she’s finding all the micromanaging too much to handle
Page 8: Jason Aldean who boasts an $80 million fortune loves splashing his cash around especially when it comes to his children -- the singer who shares son Memphis and daughter Navy with wife Brittany and girls Kendyl and Keeley with his ex likes being seen as the moneybags and leaves tough love to the kids’ moms and he’s always pulling out $100 bills for his teens and buying his little ones new clothes, toys and high-tech gadgets even though they’re so young -- he’s definitely spoiling the kids but nobody complains about it so he just keeps on buying them stuff because nothing makes him happier
* The milestone 6-0 is still months away but George Clooney is planning to do some serious partying for his birthday and he’s sparing no expense -- he’s looking at celebrations across the States and Europe plus a boys-only getaway to Mexico
* Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence are having a blast filming their first movie together so much so that tongues are wagging about the pair’s fiery chemistry on the set -- even though Leo and Jen behave like total pros when the cameras aren’t rolling there’s a running joke among the cast and crew that Jen’s marriage to Cooke Maroney could be in trouble -- of course the reality is that Jen is crazy about her husband and Leo who is dating model Camila Morrone has a strict rule never to get involved with costars but still there’s an attraction that can’t be denied
Page 10: Red Hot on the Red Carpet -- stars get glamorous in glitzy looks -- Alexa Chung, Tiffany Haddish
Page 11: Maya Hawke, Sarah Hyland
Page 12: Who Wore It Better? Yara Shahidi vs. Cindy Bruna, Becky G vs. Sofia Carson
Page 13: Celine Dion vs. Shailene Woodley
Page 14: News in Photos -- Jessie James Decker in a pink bikini in Nashville
Page 15: Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt and their son Gunner doing a Christmas card shoot in L.A., Jessica Alba spent the day handing out Honest goodies at the Baby2Baby Holiday Drive-Thru Distribution in L.A.
Page 16: Gwen Stefani rocked a cat-themed holiday jumpsuit while on the way to the recording studio in Santa Monica, Leighton Meester surfing in Malibu
Page 17: Maria Sharapova brought back the 1970s during a photoshoot in L.A., Pink kept it casual during a coffee run to Starbucks in L.A., Tia Mowry returned home with a full trunk of gifts and goodies in L.A.
Page 18: Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra Jonas exploring London
Page 20: Let’s Get Physical -- Robin Wright took her bicycle out for a spin in L.A., Chris Hemsworth shows off his ripped body while lifting a tire, Winnie Harlow in L.A.
Page 22: Deck the Halls -- newly-engaged Jonathan Bennett gushed of spending his first Christmas with fiance Jaymes Vaughan, Jonathan and Drew Scott dressed as elves
Page 23: Jon Bon Jovi and his dog, Selena Gomez with her dog Winnie in front of the Christmas tree, Brooke Burke kicked off the season by signing ornaments that will be auctioned off by Operation Smile
Page 24: Malin Akerman arranged the sheets and blankets and pillows at a Hotel Style Collection from Walmart event in NYC, Jeremy Renner filmed a scene for Hawkeye in NYC, Chrishell Stause stepped out for a morning walk with her rescue pooch Gracie in L.A.
Page 26: Inside My Home -- Marc Anthony’s elegant estate in Coral Gables, Florida
Page 28: Harrison Ford and Calista Flockhart are planning to renew their vows on Valentine’s Day which is 12 years to the day after Harrison proposed to Calista on their sprawling Jackson Hole, Wyoming ranch -- Calista is incredibly touched that Harrison is organizing this and he’s thoughtfully arranging to have her favorite flowers to be flown in and has already booked a local band and a caterer and baker
Page 29: Emily Blunt and John Krasinski might be ready for baby No. 3 but friends are encouraging them to get their marriage on track first -- the two have had a tough couple of years and John can be hard to deal with and cranky when he’s working -- while the duo tend to put a super-positive spin on their marriage in public not everyone is convinced things are so rosy at home but Emily wants another child and so does John so they’re willing to take the risk
* Meghan Markle and Prince Harry plan to kick off 2021 with a much-needed tropical vacation -- after an emotionally turbulent year Meghan and Harry are ready for this break -- following a quiet Christmas at home the couple is looking forward to relaxing on a warm beach somewhere, sleeping in, soaking up nature’s beauty and reconnecting as a couple -- they’re considering a private island in Hawaii or off the coast of Fiji
Page 30: Taylor Swift who’s been collecting bridal magazines and wedding ideas since she was a teen will have to adjust to the idea of a small sequestered affair when her boyfriend Joe Alwyn officially pops the question -- the once-outgoing singer has turned into a hermit since hooking up with the British actor who insists on total privacy and loathes attention and now Tay’s inner circle is said to be worried that in Joe’s continued efforts to fly under the radar he’ll ultimately nix the lavish nuptials Taylor’s long envisioned

How do months in 2020 manage to last years and yet end in the blink of an eye???
Anyway I did finish my TBR so...
1 -The Vampire Armand (The Vampire Chronicles 5) by Anne Rice
🌟🌟🌟
Sooo, this one was my least favorite the 1st time I read this series and I hoped to like it more since I wasn't finding Armand as annoying in the first 4 books but gosh I really feel Anne Rice doesn't have much love for characters that are not Lestat, cuz I feel Armand could have been intresting but the book lacks the passion and wit Anne adds everytime she writes Lestat so yeah it was pretty meh. I love the cover tho.
2.-Dead and Alive (Prodigal Son #3) - Dean R. Koontz
🌟🌟🌟🌟
I was plesantly surprised. I hadn't very high expectatives for this one cuz even though I enjoyed book 2 I thought the pacing was waaaaay too slow, the plot wasn't advancing much. But this one was super cool, it picked up inconcluse storylines from the 1st book and that CLIFFHANGER!!!! The romance between the detectives was meh, like I wish I had liked them both more but the Erikas have my heart and I want to see more of Deucalion.
3.- Wild Cards I - George R. R Martin
🌟
I was so disappointed. Ok so the concept is pretty cool. Like an alien virus is set loose and it causes some people to have amazing superpowers and other people gets terrible mutations, What's not to like??? But oh my fucking god. The mysogyny of this book. I can usually read books with mysogyny like I enjoy classics like 1984 despite the rampant way in which the protagonist hates woman. I couldn't handle it here. The female characters have less dimension than a sheet of paper and they depend entirely on the male characters it ruined the whole thing for me, and the writing was mediocre at times (I mean I know this was written by multiple authors but at points the quality of the writing droped like super hard) I am not picking the next one.
4.-My Sister the Serial Killer - Oyinkan Braithwaite
🌟🌟🌟🌟
I just love horror stories where a pretty girl is the killer. Like they are so enjoyable. And this particular story is so good because we have this 2 sisters, they are very different, one is like the epítome of beauty and the other is an average woman. The pretty one literally can do no wrong in everyones eyes and that’s just fine cuz she just so happens to kill her boyfriends. Her sister who is a nurse helps her clean up and get rid of the bodies because at first she believes they were abusive towards her sister but then she starts to get suspicious and things are super cool and intresting. I feel it could have gone deeper with some stuff but it was a great and quick read.
5.- Moloka'i - Alan Brenett
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
I cried so much. This book is about Rachel, a girl diagnosed with leprosy at 7 years old during the 1890's and is sent away to live at the leprosarium in Moloka'i, Hawaii. We follow Rachel as she makes friends and family and loses them all over again to the sickness as she grows older. This book was so beautiful and pretty diverse (I loved Leilani I had never seen trans representation in a 19th century book) full of history and humanity. An amazing read I fully recommend it.
6.- New Suns: Original speculative fiction by people of color - Nisi Shawl.
🌟🌟🌟🌟
I Loved it. One of my main problems with anthologies is that inevitably I find some stories better than other but that was not the case here, every story had an intresting premise and amazing writing (my fave was maybe the one with the lesbian mermaid or the one were a woman raised the death to get rid of colonizers) like I need to read more from all these authors ASAP.
7.- Crime and Punishment - Fyodor Dostoyevski
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
I love me some good classic. This one is really amazing , I love how much we get into Raskolinov's psyche and the things that lead him to comit the crime and the effect it has on him once he does. And all this conversation about morality and if it's ever valid to commit a crime even if it's for the "greater good" and all that good stuff about how people trapped in poverty are more likely to fall down the rabbit whole of prostitution and crime and yassssss it was good,
8.- A Clockwork Orange - Anthony Burgess
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
I struggled like I should have known they would use the slang like in the movie (but I watched the movie in Spanish) so I was just vibing in the first few pages of the book barely understanding shit, except those words in other lenguages and then I started to pick it up and the book is so good??? Like Alex is awfull but the book actually makes a compeling argument about free will and the concept of choosing between good or evil. In general terms the movie is super accurate tho and yeah I really enjoyed this read.
9.- The Winter of the Witch (Winternight #3) - Katherine Arden
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
I LOVED it. This book absolutely messed me up. Like I suffered a lot for my girl Vasya. And then all the stuff with the Bear and Morozco and the war, ahhhhh it was a LOT, but the ending was pretty satisfying, I cried tons and I am hoping we get another saga maybe following Marya this time????? I will just read anything Katherine Arden writes tbh.
10.-Lifestyles of Gods and Monsters - Emily Roberson
🌟🌟🌟
It was ok??? I wished it had been more about the sisters together as opposed to make Ariadne "not like the other girls" I am sick of that trope, and the "beautiful but doesn't know it" and less about the romance. Like the premise of retelling this greek myth as a reality show actually picked my interest but the execution wasn't that great it had lots of clichés I hate and mentioned before, what I kinda liked was that even though Ariadne had a romance she decides to start over by herself when things kinda fall apart and she is maybe open to dating another dude at the end, which honestly was a relief for me cuz I feel a lot of time YA pushes this idea that your first love is the only love you'll ever feel and that’s dumb .
11.-The Glass Menagerie - Tennessee Williams
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
I really love this play, well Tennessee Williams plays in general, and aire felt like re reading this one. I love Laura so much and it was a pleasure to read this again.
12.-In the Miso soup - Ryu Murakami
🌟🌟🌟
This is a very gorey book. Lots of graphic murders and violence, mentions of the sex trade in Japan. This was a very intresting read, lots of insight into the japanese society and how this very cliché image people have of it is completely wrong. Again sex trade is heavily discused as our protagonist makes a living out of taking foreigners to experience the sex clubs in Tokyo he meets this sketchy american guy who hires him, our protagonist has a feeling he might be a murderer and it goes from there. I really enjoyed it a lot and might consider reading another book by Ryu Murakami.
13.- The Downstairs Girl - Stacey Lee
🌟🌟🌟
It was amazing to read about an asian girl in the post-civil war era, and how this minority kind of lived in a limbo cuz white people didn't think much about them when making up all this crap ass rules about where PoC where supposed to live in or sit. And our protagonist Jo, is really a charming girl with a lot of opinions and so passionate I loved her so much. It was a bit cheesy at times, and I saw the book's big reveal coming but still it was a pretty good read.
15.- Agamemnon - Aeschylus
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
I am weak for the greek plays. And this rocks so much. Chlymenestra is a queen, I stan her so hard. This play always makes me feel so bad for Cassandra, like how shitty is it to have the power to make super accurate predictions but no one ever believes you???
