so there's this thing which I've dubbed academic fiction, where I write a long, precise academic paper, confirming to your citation model of choice and everything, except every single thing in there is made up. anyway if I made a zine that was a pretend-academic journal full of only that would anyone be interested in reading it
#sorry if this is insane I'll delete the post in the morning but I need to know if anyone has seen anything like this before#I also do fake wikipedia articles. in microsoft word don't worry#I take my responsibilities as a wikipedia editor extremely seriously I would never actually lie on there#echo

There's something kind of morbidly amusing to me about the fact that all the neck trauma this chapter started with a character with cat motifs. Cats, of course, being an animal known for killing their prey by snapping their neck.

The sims 1 🤝 the sims 2
2 years after the release of the main pc game (that has overwhelming positive reviews,) ea decides it's time for a flop era and releases something(s) that mostly gets negative reviews
#this is about the sims online and the flop era that are the garbage ts2 pets spinoffs#i will never forgive ea for publishing those atrocious games and forcing ppl to make them in the first place#<- forcing is a harsh word but there was clearly not a lot of love put in the game most likely due to time constraint#i love ts2 with all my heart and it hurts that there are games with the same name that are SO bad :(#i dont know too much about tso but i read the wikipedia page and it seemed like it was received pretty badly#delete later#not art

[ID: a Wikipedia article from under the controversies category on the page for ex CIA member (and comic book writer) Tom King. Text reads:
In July 24 2020, Tom king posted on his Twitter account a complaint about comic book artists Jae Lee doing an alternate cover for his upcoming Rorschach series. He stated that DC comics did not consult with him about it and said that Jae Lee had previously done a cover for an alleged hate group called ComicsGate. King said that he reached out to DC comics to let them know how much disappointed he was with that cover and that for him, the only real cover for issue number one of the series was the one by main artists Fornés Jorge.
The post received several responses, some users that sided with King, demanded DC comics to cancel Lee's cover for his alleged ties to ComicsGate. The same day, King made another post on his twitter account this time stating that he had talked to Lee, he is not on Twitter and he had no idea what ComicsGate is about and does not support any kind of similar groups. He ended the post saying that they were all good, and that it was the best possible outcome to the whole situation.
On July 26, Lee took on his Instagram account to post his side of the story, explaining how he was unaware of all the drama that unfolded on twitter because of King's post. He compared it to "A plague" that came barging into his life at a very sensitive moment as his beloved dog had just passed from health complications. He went on to explain how King's post took away his time for mourning for his dog, as he received several calls and texts by friends and colleagues bringing news of the hatred coming from a stranger's mouth into his life. Lee stated clearly that was not a part of any group and that he was angry, saying: "These irresponsible tweets are not harmless. They do not just go away. They have real world consequences. They can take away your job. Your life. Your memories. June (wife) and i were robbed of a special day. So, no, we are not ALL GOOD."
Following Lee's Instagram post, King tweeted that he was very sorry and wanted to publicly apologize to Lee and that he had done a critically mistake and would delete his post as a sign of closure.]
#re last post#love how the ex cia man deletes the post ‘for closure’ and says everything is all good over his err#after trying to smear an artists reputation & career and getting rightfully corrected.#also who formatted this wikipedia article its atrocious...#but like. yeah. taylor has shit writing too but king is actively harmful instead of just being annoying or cringy lmao

re:hbomberguy, on the topic of citing sources, i want to say:
it is insane how many people on here don't even click the sources op links on their own post to learn more and just hit reblog saying "oh my i didn't know about this thank you for teaching me!". like guys CLICK THE LINK!! CHECK THE NOTES!!! CHECK THE SOURCE!.... i swear half the time the link is dead or takes you to a nonsense page (i see this a lot with art specifically???? and excerpts from magazines??) and some times the linked source disproves a claim the very post that linked it made and people just. don't bother to check, no one bothers to even reblog saying "hey that link is dead! here's a new, working link!" or "hey that link doesn't work, can you link the source again?" and when it comes to misinformation people just share without checking or looking at the notes where numerous people will (in the best case scenario) already be pointing out the misinformation
"OH BUT I CAN'T CHECK EVERYTHING I SEE ON THE INTERNET" there is a surefire way to prevent spreading this kind of stuff even if you don't have the time to fact check immediately. just accept it's fine to save a post for later if you can't look deeper into it right now!!!!! literally just reblog it in private or save the post as a draft so you can come back to it later and check. it won't kill you and in fact it will actually make your life a lot better lol
#hbomberguy#misinformation#plagiarism#adding those for reach honestly because im kinda pissed rn#heres some more on citing sources for this week! sometimes people cite sources and THEY DON'T EXIST. it is REALLY frustrating#people do this to PRETEND they linked to the original artist a lot here on tumblr when theyre actually linking 1- nothing or 2- google imgs#it drives me INSANE#and sometimes they will add “source: xyz magazine” and then you go look for it and there is no available source. its just a loop of-#one person quoting another on where the source came from and none of them actually checked the source#ALSO sometimes journalists will do this kind of crazy bullshit where they quote something from wikipedia thinking the wiki source is real-#and it turns out to not align with the statement in the wiki and so the journalist claims that without checking or sourcing and then#other news sources will quote the journalist on that cyclically up until the point where the journalist that used wikipedia as a source-#becomes a source for wikipedia#'confirming' the statement that actually came from there in the first place#there is a name for this phenomenom but i cant remember it if i find it i'll reblog with an addition#sorry if you saw this before i deleted it to word it better

Theodora's wikipedia page is a good example of when wikipedia is not an exceptionally reliable source
#it's a whole mess#there's this one guy who gets pissy if you call her a Monophysite#so every few days he just shows up to edit her page to make her Orthodox#but he doesn't change the whole page#resulting in a self-contraditory page where she's listed as a Monophysite in some areas and an Orthodox Chalcedonian in others#some other guy added a line claiming that she was married to a Monophysite man before she met Justinian#which is obviously not true right?#are there any references to Theodora being a widow or a divorcee???#and there are so many points where the article is just bad. bad grammar and poorly written sentences abound#there are whole sections that are extremely biased by people who either love or hate her#I keep thinking I should fix it but I'm not familiar enough with Wikipedia's rules to know what I can and can't do#in terms of deleting things and correcting things

oh just 34,000+ killed huh. no division between civilians and militants huh.
#worf opens their big mouth#obviously this could be that wikipedia is using very iffy language but at the same time#wikipedia is a culimination of various new sources of the sort#so if the news isn’t talking about specific who is being killed. or just CAN’T talk about who specifically is being killed#then that will be what wikipedia shows#frustrates me either way.#palestine#delete later#< solely because my source is wikipedia and is a very broad look at the language used in news articles

saw a shitty post trying to make a racism about palestine and against better judgment i went to fact check and it was bullshit obviously BUT
it did lead me to un resolution 3379
the resolution was voted on and passed the general assembly 10th november 1975 (72 for, 35 against, 32 abstentions) and determined that zionism is a form of racism and racial discrimination
this seems like a good thing right?
in 1991 the resolution was revoked, its revocation being a condition set by israel in exchange for palestine being allowed to participate in the madrid peace conference, the peace conference being one hosted by spain and sponsored by both the us and the soviet union... to revive the peace process between israel and palestine
it has been 30 years and the un has never had less credibility in the eyes of the people, entirely due to its inability to stop the zionist war machine
#palestine#jerusalem#tel aviv#united nations#we love having to dig out sources from wikipedia via internet archive cuz its been deleted off the site#the source didnt say palestine outright which like i dont believe israel will use the word if possible#it said 'a un observer' which like okay dude#im skimming wiki only for further reading but man it seems israel tried to fuck the conference up every step of the way

final bottoms review: it was funny, not as funny as I thought from the hype it got. I didn't realize it would be a comedy where reality bends for the purpose of comedy, and i think if I went in expecting absurdism instead of expecting a story I would have liked it better.
#phunk still kind of my fave tbh lol the 'this is not the viking way' in the credits got me#huh the guy who played him hsan't done much#also the gal who played brittney doesn't even have bottoms listed on her wikipedia??#the white girl was. old. she was a full grown white lady.#and i'm only saying cuz her makeup was NOT helping#i'm sure they could have done her up younger better.#i said this#bottoms (2023)#probably will delete all these posts tomrorow idk. maybe put it on my neocities
