WIJ # 7 - Underrated Whump

Here are a couple stories that I think should be read immediately:

Collarbones by @ilasknives​ - I only very recently started reading it but it has a HOLD on my heart it is plotty and also makes me feel things. Like rage, anxiety, and whumperflies. 14/10, can’t wait for what’s next.

Unintentional by @distinctlywhumpthing​ - BBU; is literally so so good. Always read this as soon as I get a notification that it’s updated, always love it.

Reap the Harvest by @pumpkin-spice-whump​ - Okay Pumpkin doesn’t shy away from gore or like heavily dark shit, but all 3 of her fics are so compelling and genuine and I go into these like wide-eyed blind rages sometimes when I read them because her whumpers are BAD dudes but her whumpees are so incredibly sweet. Would recommend; be prepared for pain.

@for-the-love-of-nsfwhump/@for-the-love-of-angst is hugely underrated and amazing! Love Vee and all their work! Especially their recent BBU stuff with @wildfaewhump.

@hackles-up and @justplainwhump's Dany and B/Ridley story is fucking wonderful. Top notch whump, sadism and reluctance and defiance, just all of it. Excellent stuff.

I am really just getting into @darkthingshappen's work but highly recommended!

@hardygalwrites team SA37 i have such a love for the team, especially Jam. I love guilty leaders as well as strong women getting hurt. I love 707 and Jam's relationship and i really recommend you read it too

@for-the-love-of-angst Taron and Zizi are wonderful and their story is amazing and you should go read it right now

@painful-pooch i really love her characters theyre one of a kind and all her writing is super original

Ah, now this is a tough one. I spend a lot of my time obsessing in discord servers and writing my own things rather than consuming as much of other people's whump as I possibly can, which seems a bit contrary considering the scope of my addiction...

And I also don't pay much attention to the number of notes ^-^' especially when they can change so much lol

I wouldn't call any of these underrated but I like them :3c

Brag about a creator or piece of whump you think is underrated

It says underrated, so I’m gonna pick some I don’t see mentioned so far.

For one, there is @whump-in-the-moonlight ‘s Curiosity Killed The Pirate.

This isn’t pure whump (so far, Fable just started having a Very Good Time :D) but a fantasy story with pain and angst. Which are the best, tbh.

Quill, a young man who was captured and treated like a slave by a crew of pirates who disguise themselves as fishermen, goes on a quest to defeat the evil lurking at the bottom of the ocean. With all the friends he meets along the way, will he be able to save the world and the people he loves? Or will he be too late?

This one is very new, but very 👀 so far. Merciless by @suspicious-whumping-egg​

I do so have a thing for pirate whump.

Mateo is taken onto the ship of an enemy after catching the attention of the captain, for better or for worse. Pirate whump, intimate whump, enemies to lovers.

And Smoke, Salt and Asbestos by @quietly-by-myself​.

Super cool world, that’s also used for another story. Super sweet protagonists.

Life for Keeper Silvanus was never normal. However, abnormal quickly changed to strange when a fae creature dropped dead at the doorstep of his ward, the Hall of Alchemists. Perplexed and caught in a web of politics and magic, Silvanus and his new fae creature friend, Briac, have to navigate an increasingly complex world to find their place with the scars of trauma, in current life and lives past.

Then there is @dont-touch-my-soup ‘s Unsung Heroes.

Oh, poor Kell. Kept as a slave, forced to perform, to entertain the very people who conquered his homeland.

Set in a war-torn fantasy world, where slavery is more or less used to get rid of political enemies – or basically everyone who acts up a little. It mostly follows the story of Kell, who is a talented singer. He makes a mistake that throws him at the mercy of the infamous General – equally feared by his enemies and his own people. Now Kell desperately tries to make the right choices to keep his people save and himself alive.

And! An Untitled Story (verkja, PLEASE. I hope you know you are officially worse with titles than me now <3) by @verkja.

There is no blurb I can conveniently steal, just this bit:

Despite the generally dark tone of the story, it has a good deal of comfort and friendship alongside all the hurt, angst, and overall misery, and it will have a happy ending.

And oh boy is there a lot of hurt, angst and overall misery. Mures is a dark wizard, and as such he is very evil. Because what else would he be, a dark wizard has to be evil, right? How much self-loathing can you pack into one set of tattered, black robes? Spoiler: A lot.

Day 7: Brag about a creator or piece of whump you think is underrated

Take some time today to hype up someone or something that deserves some extra love! It could be that quiet author consistently putting out amazing works, that one piece you’ve gone back to read a million times, or that TV series with the pitch-perfect whump that no one is talking about. Whatever it is, spread some love, and don’t forget to check out everyone else’s responses! You might just find something you love!

Ive been struggling with this one since I’m not very active in the community, but I always thought that @leyswhumpdump deserved more of an audience with her original writing. I’ve enjoyed everything I’ve read so far, and very excited to read more!!

Whumpmas in July Days 5 and 7

5: My favorite whumpee is Chuuya hands down, and I think that's very obvious from my fics rotflllll

7: I'm going to brag about a piece of underrated whump I did because that's what creators should do!  So here's some of my favorite whumpee featuring: Human Experimentation, Intimate Whumper, Dehumanization, Drugging in a cyberpunk/Dystopian future.

Chuuya’s heard of the mysterious disappearances.  That the government is kidnapping those people without a job, without a family, without friends – nobody who would miss them, nobody who could put up a fight if they disappeared – and taking them to hidden facilities where they they do questionable experiments on them, testing out hand crafted Abilities, genetic experimentation.  They’re just stories, surely.  But as Chuuya’s poor luck would have it, they aren’t.

“Such a lovely specimen this time,” the man’s voice crooned.  His hand reached down, caressed the side of Chuuya’s face slowly, hand sliding down to rest at his jaw.  He cupped Chuuya’s jaw between thumb and fingers and firmly turned his head, exposing the side of his neck.  Chuuya saw the man’s other arm come down out of the corner of his eye and felt a gloved hand brush the side of his neck, the light touch sending cold shivers down his spine.

“Right here will do,” the man spoke again before releasing Chuuya.  Chuuya turned his head to look up at the scientist, who turned to the cart beside him and picked up a syringe filled with a pale yellow liquid.

“O-oi, what are you…” Chuuya’s voice came out shakily.  He could have sworn the man was leering down at him.  

A brief glance from the doctor spurred his assistant into action.  She reached down, pressed on Chuuya’s forehead firmly with one hand and cupped his chin with the other, lifting his jaw and tilting his head to the side firmly.  Fingers brushed hair away from the side of his neck; Chuuya could feel his pulse beat butterfly fast.  Eyes wide, he saw the man lean over him with the syringe, and he thrashed against the table, but the hold on his head was unyielding, and did nothing to deter the scientist who didn’t even blink at his actions.

Chuuya inhaled with a whimper and froze as the syringe pierced his skin, the sharp pain pinning him to the table as securely as a mounted butterfly.
