#I was going to add other things but there's something nuts in this being in only Illario's words.#Always thinking about the messy and fraught and just... the genuine grief and choked affection and fucked up love in this relationship.#I think Illario loves him despite it all. Despite the doom and murder. And that the demon thing is a genuinely maddening grief and guilt.#Exactly the same way that Lucanis loves Illario through it all even when it's full of pain and grief and rage and hurt.#I considered adding more Illario following Lucanis in Wigmaker quotes but that's bludgeoning the point a little. i am no longer joking. what happens inbetween the end of wigmaker’s job and about a year before veilguard that makes illario decide the brother he loves is worth less than the seat of first talon
#the joke and prod at each other like siblings#i wish we got a little bit more of them acting like this to parallel bellara and cyrian#because if illario could turn that means cyrian could too. what if there is no hope for either of them#i like the idea of the game having that conversation between them. and it would change depending on#who’s companion quest is finished first so . bellara encouraging or lucanis warning the other#and ofc illario is decidedly jealous even in this book but its just . they careeeee. The crazy thing is, Lucanis' character is so well established. I reread The Wigmaker Job the other night. I was like damn, he sounds exactly like this in the game. Same dogged determination. Same priority of action over thought. "I'm fine". Self sacrificing. Speaks shortly and matter of factly. Willing to put himself through incredible pain to finish what he started.
Like, I wish we gave the writers more credit with how consistently he's written. Over a number of years of game development hell. They knew who he was, his motivations, his speech, his internal landscape. Dude literally recites a childhood assassin's nursery rhyme to himself as he kills 7 guards in the Ambrose's palace. That's why his emotions recalling the wyvern book to the lighthouse was like, not surprising to me at all. dude's inner child has been so compromised and destroyed this entire time.
Anyway I wish that someday I could write a character this outstanding. That's all. I'm just here to glaze.
