Squid Game is a worldwide phenomenon, and one of the most appealing features is the set designs. You are a passionate set designer. You illustrate your imagination and make it come to life for Squid Game and other popular Korean movies and dramas. 

Aside from your entertainment career, you are a mother and wife to one beautiful baby girl and the magnificent actor, Wi Ha-joon. Your love story with him is like something out of a K-drama.

The couple met during the first season of Squid Game and somehow Ha-joon found interest in a lovely woman who taught him how to draw the masks of the Pink Guards. Then, he asked her if she was available after filming. Like that, a spark ignited between the actor and the set designer. 

Ha-joon saw that you were the one for him, the starlight who showed him the brightest and happiest pathway in life. So, he proposed a hand in marriage. You straightaway agreed to be his wife and unexpectedly become the mother of his children. 

Wi Hwa-young is the cutest and sweetest baby angel. 

She immediately received so much love from Ha-joon’s fans and celebrity friends. She has her mother’s pretty eyes and lips while she has her father’s cute ears and elegant face shape and nose. She might become the next beauty queen in Asia and other places.

Hwa-young is also super talkative or babbles nonsense because she loves people’s attention and they just laugh and smile at her. Of course, like most daughters, she is a daddy’s girl. Hwa-young would get excited whenever you say, “Appa” or Ha-joon’s name. 

A week before continuing to film Squid Game 2, you told her about taking her to work and Ha-joon will be there. Hwa-young happily bounced in her height chair and squealed. You couldn’t resist squishing her mochi-like cheeks and hugging her tiny body because she was too adorable. It warms your heart that she loves Ha-joon so much. He once doubted himself about not being the perfect father and it’s common for most upcoming dads to get nervous, but for him it’s different. 

Ha-joon is an actor with so much fame and will likely be out and less at home. Like the best wife that you are, you assured him that he wouldn’t be the worst father in the world because he truly cares about you and Hwa-young. Ha-joon cried when you comforted him. It also made you love him more whenever he expressed his vulnerability. 

Now in the present time, the family will continue to grow happy and healthy. 

“Wow! You look like a princess!” 

Hwa-young is sitting on the bed as you dress her up. It’s spring so you have her dressed in a pink floral dress with short sleeves, frilly socks, and strapped shoes. You even added a bow clip with a glittery heart in the middle on her ebony hair. “Are you excited to see appa?” You asked and earned a joyful giggle. You etched a smile. “He is excited too. How about Jung-jae samchon, Byung-hun samchon, and everyone else?” You say the names of the famous actors and Hwa-young continues to giggle out loud. 

Once finishing her outfit, you take your child, purse, and baby bag, ready to leave the apartment. It’s very spacious with a gorgeous view of the city and perfect for a family of three. You enter your car to buckle up Hwa-young in her seat. She is seven months old and is close to the stage where she can walk. She has been crawling and it amazes her parents how fast she moves. Maybe one day she’ll become athletic like Ha-joon. 

You shut the driver’s door and start up the vehicle. “Ready baby?” You reached your hand behind your seat to touch Hwa-young’s small hand. She shakes yours as a response. You chuckle, “Okay. Let’s go!” You begin exiting the parking lot and making your way to the studio. It’ll be another long filming day, but Hwa-young will brighten the mood as you work. 

The thirty-minute drive was smooth, considering it was the weekend and usually gets hectic. You arrived at the place and parked the car. “We’re here, baby.” You tell your daughter, who babbles so cutely. You then gathered yourself to help Hwa-young out of her seat and take your belongings. A mother is always carrying a lot of stuff so it’s typical. 

You have your ID badge around your neck for access management and a sense of identity. All of your colleagues wear them because working in the film industry is like working in an ordinary job but with celebrities. People must know your name to communicate and cooperate with you. And it’s to show you are working for the production team. 

As soon as you walk in, the staff members greet you and Hwa-young, more like going frantic when they see her. She does the same by flailing her arms with a big smile. 

After saying hello to the staff members, you go to your office. While going through the hallways in a big studio, you see the cast members are together in a room, rehearsing their lines. 

Ha-nuel is the first person to see you and Hwa-young. “Y/N! Princess! Hello!” A large smile plays on his handsome face. In unison, the men and women are ecstatic to see you both. 

Jung-jae reaches out his arms. “Come to samchon!” He beams at the sight of the baby. You handed Hwa-young to the star of the show. She instantly got comfortable in his arms. “You’re much bigger now,” Jung-jae said, kissing her forehead. Byung-hun is next to him and he gently pokes Hwa-young's soft chubby cheek. “You look so pretty today. Are you a real angel?” He asked and his index finger got held by Hwa-young’s little hands. 

You and the actors and actresses laughed merrily at the precious interaction. One by one, they all take turns holding Hwa-young because she is their mood booster and is clearly enjoying it. Your baby should be called, ”Little Miss Popular.” 

Si-wan was the last person to hold her and she squished his cheeks, hard. “Hwa-young-ah! Samchon loves you too!” He cried out through the pain yet allowed her to do whatever she wanted. Yu-ri takes out her phone to snap a picture. “Aww so cute!” She gushed at the moment and everyone did the same thing—taking videos and pictures of Si-wan getting attacked by Hwa-young.

Ae-sim says, “For such a tiny being she is strong.” The oldest of the cast is amazed by Hwa-young’s growth. You nodded, “Ha-joon’s child through and through.” You and the people can see the resemblance. 

Then, the man of the hour walks into the room. He is wearing all black, fluffy dark hair down, and the slight stubble on his upper lip is showing. Ha-joon’s appearance looks mysterious and cold but he quickly smiles when he spots the love of his life and princess. 

“Wow, this room is cheery.” Ha-joon comments on the upbeat atmosphere. You tell him, “Well your daughter has the effect.” You watch Hwa-young pulling on Si-wan’s hair. 

Ha-joon snickered and helped his friend out. “You little mischief. Are you stealing people’s hearts?” He gingerly takes his daughter into his arms and nuzzles his nose against her nose. She squeals at the ticklish touch.

Seo-hwan speaks out of the blue, “Just like her father.” His comment has the cast and you laughing, jovially. Ha-joon blushed and Hwa-young looked clueless. Dong-uk cleared his throat from laughing too much. “She will become a heart stealer when she grows older.” He stated, which has the father chuckling nervously. 

“I hope not,” Ha-joon replied in a playful yet stern voice. You sighed and rolled your eyes because you expected him to be overprotective.

Four eps in, The Midnight Romance in Hagwon is absolutely fascinating me. It's very understated and restrained compared to almost anything else I've watched lately, the night shots (especially in the office and the leads' houses) are lit realistically which gives it a very intimate mood, and the scenes linger in a way that makes me feel a little uncomfortable, like I'm intruding on these people's real lives and am just on the verge of overstaying my welcome. It's the perfect match for the uncertainty that underlies the plot.

Another thing I love is that so many of the characters' feelings are shown instead of told and yet they're also impossible to miss, the actors' body language and the framing of the shots makes the truth evident even when the characters are trying to deny it. I feel like I'm being invited to draw my own conclusions as an intelligent viewer, while at the same time never feeling left behind by the director and scriptwriter trying to show off their own cleverness at my expense.

I also read a long Reddit comment this week by someone familiar with the politics and cultural tensions involved in the school and hagwon system in Korea, and it was exciting to realize that many of the subtleties she was pointing out were ones I'd already inferred from context, even though that system is unfamiliar to me as a North American viewer. The direction and writing is just that good.

I'm starting to think the title of this drama might be as misleading as Crash Course in Romance was, in that yes there is romance but it's definitely not the main focus of the plot. At least so far, it's been much more of a slice of life drama with romantic undertones (mostly consisting of Wi Ha Joon being an absolutely lethal flirt, bless). But I'm not mad about it. It's reminding me of My Liberation Notes in all the best ways, and if the quality stays consistent throughout it may end up becoming one of my favourite dramas.

It's ironic that he gives Ichiban dating advice given that Nanba has been a bachelor for quite some time. He's also pretty calculated and takes into careful consideration whether or not a relationship would even be viable so if he's confessing, it's quite serious.

Might consult with Ichiban or Adachi about it but mostly keeps it close to his chest. Good at hiding it in front of you so it might feel like it's coming out of nowhere but trust me, it's been on his mind for a while.

He's pretty candid and straightforward. Through the years, he's learned beating around the bush gets you nowhere. He'll likely just pull you aside, no fancy date or hangout required, and just tell you privately how he feels.

Adachi Koichi: "You really changed my life, you know that? Thank you."

With Adachi, it's less of a confession and more of an appreciation of who you are. At his age and given his track record, he's kind of resigned to living the single life and the older he gets, the less he gets his hopes up for things to get serious.

Having said that, he does still want to stress just how impactful you've been on his life. Like Ichiban does with all his friends, Adachi feels you deserve your praises to be sung.

It's not something he really plans on. He'll just blurt it out in the middle of any old conversation, maybe at a bar. If you ask him for clarification or to elaborate, that's where he starts choking up. Be nice to him.

Mukoda Saeko: "Ah, you know I wouldn't normally say this but... I like you, heh."

Sly as ever, Zhao is similar to Saeko in that it takes a lot to get him to confess. Only difference is he's more perceptive than Saeko. He can sniff out pretty quick how you feel about him.

Having said that, chances of him confessing are greatly increased if he thinks or knows you would reciprocate. His playful side gets in the way though as it becomes a cat and mouse game of who gives in first: you or him.

When it eventually turns out to be him, it'll be a cute little planned event that he's meticulously thought out. He'll close his restaurant for the night and invite you over for a special private dinner with a menu inspired by all your favorite things.

Joon-Gi Han: "I don't know, I just... I always get this way when I'm with you... will you just stay with me? For a little bit?"

Today’s filming involves many actors and actresses on set, who act like the participants in the game and come together. 

Plus, another child comes to their father’s work. Ha-neul’s little girl, Kang Min-hee, was brought by his wife to visit him and you volunteered to help take care of her. You are not only a set designer but also a nanny. Min-hee is a lovely toddler and is starting school soon. Despite being much older, she likes to play with Hwa-young. 

“Appa!”

Min-hee’s sweet, high-pitched voice echoes through the studio when she sees Ha-neul talking to Si-wan. The people around her laughed because she was too adorable. Ha-neul smiles and waves at his daughter. The actor is dressed up as his character for the show and it’s amazing how Min-hee still recognizes him with long hair. 

You go into the studio and Hwa-young is in your arms. “Darling, appa has to work soon. Let’s go hang out together.” You tell the toddler kindly yet firmly because the atmosphere will change once the cameras are recording. Min-hee understands you and happily skips away from the room. You giggle at her silliness because she cares about playing with her toys, eating food, and giving hugs. 

Inside an empty makeup room is a mess. You aren’t complaining because Min-hee will clean up after herself and you know what to expect when having children around. There are coloring books, block sets, plushies, snacks to munch on, and blankets if anyone wants to nap. You came in prepared because you didn’t want them to get bored. 

Min-hee and Hwa-young enjoy being great friends while you are on the couch, going through your phone. Ha-joon is in a different room, practicing his lines, which is understandable because he is a perfectionist and never likes to mess up. Just you and the kids trying to pass the time. So far, it’s been a chill work day unless you get called by the design team to fix something like the paint of the dormitory or broken pieces of a set. 

After an hour of filming, the director lets everyone have a break. 

You hear the door opening all lively from the main cast members and your husband. You also got elated when you saw Sung-hoon because he came in after you arrived. Min-hee beams and springs up to run to Ha-neul. “Appa! Let’s pway!” Her pronunciations are still not perfect but she knows a lot of words. Ha-neul’s face brightens and he bends down to catch her in his arms. “Yes! Appa can join you!” He exclaims. Once letting go of his daughter, he stands up and she drags him to the spot. 

Hwa-young is doodling on a blank paper while the uncles and aunts gather around the little play zone. Ha-joon sits next to you and watches his baby do her thing. “How is it being a nanny?” He asked. You snickered because you weren’t expecting to have two jobs. You replied to your husband. “Fun. The girls are so cute when they share toys.” You’ve watched Min-hee help Hwa-young build a tower of blocks until it gets taller than them. 

Ha-joon smiles mirthfully. “That’s nice. I wish I could be in your position.” He makes a pout which has you giggling. You gently caress his head. “Well, the people love Jun-ho so it wouldn’t be the same if you get replaced.” You stated the truth because you’ve seen how the fans react to the character. Ha-joon leans his head against your hand and stares at you with endearment. He is loving your touch. “You’re right. I just need another five hours of filming.” Ha-joon groans quietly and digs his nose into your palm. “Aww~” You cooed and understood his exhaustion. 

“Wow, Hwa-young that’s a pretty sun.” Sung-hoon compliments the youngest child’s art—a splatter of yellow and spikes. 

Ha-neul looks over Min-hee’s head, who is sitting on his lap and drawing too. “So beautiful! I wonder if she got her skills from omma.” He compliments the art as well and gives you a smirk. The cast members laugh at your playful eye-rolling. 

Min-hee abruptly shoves her art to Ha-neul’s face. “Look, appa! Pweety?” She asked about her colorful flowers. He gingerly pushes the paper away and looks at it. “It is pretty. Omma would love it.” Ha-neul kindly comments. 

Byung-hun then noticed something. He saw Min-hee staring at Hwa-young with a hint of jealousy when Ha-neul complimented the baby’s sun drawing. Byung-hun tells everyone, “I think someone wanted appa’s attention because he said something nice about her friend.” His statement made them shocked.

Jung-jae raised his brows. “How so hyung?” He questioned.

Byung-hun chuckled before speaking. “I have two kids and my son would get jealous whenever his sister gets more attention. He thinks Min-jung and I favor his sister.” He explained in brief. The youngest of the cast, Yu-ri, smiles at Ha-neul. “Oppa, I believe Min-hee doesn’t like your compliment on Hwa-young.” Her response astounds the man 

Ha-neul turns Min-hee on his lap to face him and gives a small lecture. “Sweetie. Hwa-young is your friend and shouldn’t be upset if I say something nice to her. You both are amazing, but I don’t want you to think appa doesn’t love you. Okay?” He tries to make Min-hee comprehend the purpose of fairness. 

Like a pure yet smart child, she acknowledged by hugging his neck. Ha-neul takes Min-hee into a tighter hug and kisses her head. 

Baby Hwa-young looks up from her drawing to see the precious moment. She shifts her head to see her father has been here this whole time. She squealed which had the adults’ and toddler’s eyes on her. Hwa-young lifts her arms to Ha-joon. 

“Someone also needs her appa’s touch.” You tell the love of your life to grab the little one. Ha-joon laughs merrily and reaches over to Hwa-young. The man gathers his baby into comforting arms. 

Another thing Ha-joon hopes for Hwa-young is to not develop envy.

Hi! 22F looking for 18+ rp partners who would be interested in an oc rp? I'm working on (another) new guy and would love to flesh him out a bit!

He's an assassin wildcard who, for the most part, enjoys his work. He loves a cat & mouse type of exchange and often toys/plays with his targets or those after him. (I was thinking Wi Ha-joon as his faceclaim)

I'm flexible for a plot but I had a few tropes/ideas I'd love to write if any of them are interesting, here they are:

- your character & mine have been in a cat & mouse style chase for ages now with him nearly slipping away every time. They're eventually brought together now that my guy has been somehow burned/cut off & or needs some help

- anything enemies to lovers, push & pull type dynamic. They play off each other in both regards and influence each other (your character's morals possibly graying and or mine softening a little in some elements). An officer/journalist angle would be amazing

- our characters getting briefly handcuffed together

- my guy is a rising assassin that your character has discovered. No one takes them seriously though, except my guy (who has taken a *big* interest in your character)

- our characters "knowing" each other but more from a research/job perspective, then getting to know each other via a situation they sort of come together

I'm super open to other ideas & brainstorming something together too! I'm open to mxm or mxf pairings, super open to talking dynamics!

Hello~ anything more that you'd like to share about the midnight romance in hagwon? Its audience on Tumblr (for now) is not big now. The lack of comments is killing me because I think we had various topics to discuss on in 2 episodes.

i used to like, really analyze and get really obsessed with shows but it wasn't really healthy for me tbh and that habit kinda stopped when i got deeper into my faith.

i still notice stuff tho so:

midnight romance in hagwon is not a show for people who are not into character-driven pieces. every character in this show has a story and, even if they are not as central to the story as the main characters, every one has a history and everyone gets their due. all the characters matter in this show and there is no such thing as a filler scene because every scene is meant for the viewer to understand the world that is currently being built. as someone who can only really write character-driven stories, this is my jam and butter. also, people who like shows that tell you to your face what's going on will not like this show. these people are ACTORS. every micro-expression matters. every glance of the eye is meant to signal a change in thought. people are obsessed with wi ha joon (as they should be tbh), but jung ryeo won EATS as the female lead and alot of people are kinda hating on her after the second episode. if you don't know media literacy, please do not watch this show. actually scratch that. this is a great show to learn about media literacy. if you dont CARE about media literacy, pls do not touch this show. this is not a show for foreigners - this is clearly a korean drama and everything is interconnected. the romance is in the background for now and we are smack-dab in education system jargon. as someone who knows nothing about the education system in korea, i still can pick up context clues and i am willing to listen to viewers who either experienced the education system or j know their research for things that don't make sense to me. if you are not willing to be patient, don't want a background romance (at this point), idk don't want the plot to be about the actual setting (which is so weird ngl yall), then this might not be the show for you.

okay enough with the rant.

the visuals of this show are absolutely beautiful. people, places, the way things are shot - everything is meant to feel real and like slice of life because we are literally watching someone's life!!! there's not much of a focus on the past rn, which i LOVE, because the viewer is forced to be present with the characters!!! CAN YOU HEAR ME SCREAAAAMING RN??

as for actual topics in the show like my thoughts on pyo sang sub, the incident that seo hye jin clearly went through and talked around in episode 2, lee jun ho's motivations to wanting to become an instructor, the lowkey beef between lee jun ho and choi sung gyu (?), then like. i need more time. but i would love to talk about those topics because they interest me so much! are there any topics you wanted to talk about in particular? i would love to dive into them with you :)

thanks for asking me about midnight romance in hagwon btw!! its lowkey underrated rn and i think the show itself is going against the grain (or trend) for what people are looking for (lovely runner, queen of tears, more shows that i simply can't think of rn....). i think this show is brave, is the complete opposite of dare to love me despite the same premise of noona romance, and i am extremely excited to see where this show goes 😊
