Daniel: …The way you say that means this ain’t your house?

Yodaka: Apologies for the sudden question, Samejima-san, but how exactly are you acquainted with Netaro?

Samejima: Well after a certain case, he's started to help me with some of my investigations. Only occasionally, though.

Nagi: …By a certain case, do you mean the one with the missing heart and flowers*?

Yodaka: I see, so it was then… I understand.

Ryui: And? Can we get back on track? Don’ tell me we came in just to have a fuckin’ tea party? If it’s that then I’m headin’ home.

Daniel: …A guard for this manor’s master?

Samejima: Yes. That being said, the original owner of this place passed of senility a few days ago.

Samejima: Her name was “Brunhild Senba.” She was a megastar of the acting world and a German residing in Japan.

Yodaka: In that case, who will we be acting as guards for?

Samejima: That’s the thing. You see, she didn’t have any family members, so through the will, the enormous inheritance she possessed was transferred to a different person…, no, a different child…took it all. That child… is the one you must protect.

Ryui: …This shit seems kinda convoluted.

Samejima: Ahh yeah… I’m not too sure how to explain that part. ...Nevermind that, let’s move on.

Samejima: So, Brunhild-shi was a famous gem collector. She collected many exotic and rare gems.

Samejima: But after her death, rumors that she poured most of her wealth into a custom made “secret treasure” began to circulate about.

Samejima: That’s when we received news that the internationally wanted criminal organization, “Anonymous,” had set their sights on it. Well, they’re called a criminal organization, but they’re honestly just a ragtag bunch of troublemakers… That being said, we can’t let down our guards

Samejima: And amidst that, a world famous phantom thief also got wrapped up in it…

Daniel: Ahh, what the hell, I'm going home.

Toi: Ehhh!? Why!? Danny-san, we’re about to get to the good part!!

Daniel: My dead grandma always told me to never stick my nose into trouble.

Nagi: Trouble……? But it’s like a scene outta a cool drama.

Yodaka: Putting that aside, I think it would be a bit difficult for amateurs like us to go against a criminal organization.

Ryui: I agree with Natsume. Couldn’t give two shits about Hachinoya, but I don’t want Toi to be put in danger.

Daniel: And that’s that. See ya.

By chance, did that happen to begin three years ago? No reason in particular, just curious.

Allegedly it's super-toxic because of a gas leak from a mine but, as stated before, "There's this one place where nobody ever ever ever goes" sounds like the perfect place to stash a big secret. It's the most obvious candidate for the secret secret lab.

This has come up many times over the various cases. The Peacekeepers remove bodies from crime scenes quickly for this reason, but it's never been discussed what happens to the bodies. Does Kanai Ward do burials? Cremation? Dump 'em in the river? Cannibalism?

That last one's mostly a joke but. Like. KANAI WARD SIGNATURE MEAT BUNS. I type it like that because something feels weird about the whole town's obsession for this one food product, which various food vendors keep mentioning.

In any case, what becomes of the dead once their body is taken away by Peacekeepers is unclear.

But now we know. We've been told even Peacekeepers don't set foot in the Restricted Area. But that doesn't mean that nobody goes there.

SON OF A BITCH. Peacekeepers don't go to the Restricted Area because that's Makoto's turf.

This is it. This is our homunculus lab. It has to be. That's why Makoto took us to the secret classified lab in a Restricted Area. He gave us the run-around for the sake of his power play against Yomi.

Then again, Kurumi though the Restricted Area was a completely unassuming location and the last place you'd ever expect something shady to be concealed at. So it's possible this is just her poor judgment cropping up again.

That's. Horrifying, the more you think about it. Like. We're already neck-deep in corporate conspiracies, eldritch secrets, shady organizations, and homunculus research. And guess what, it turns out the town has a full-on fucking

Shit. Oh shit. Things are heating up now. I was expecting Number One to eventually join us, but. I guess. He's been killed in a bombing?

Fuck. We don't know that this is related to the Kanai Ward investigation but c'mon. But then. That would mean....

Makoto? He's consolidated his power and taken out his only rival. He doesn't need us anymore. Now that he is the unambiguous God-King of Kanai Ward, he could be making moves to--

MOTHERFUCKER. It wasn't a bomb but I was in the ballpark. Makoto's eliminated his business rival, and now he's eliminating his foreign threat.

I don't know why he'd bother taking us alive, though. But I'm sure we'll find out.

Traditionally, chapters 5 and 6 are where shit gets real. It feels like we've entered endgame.

Didn't do so hot with this one. Made a few mistakes. And. Well. Sephiroth Vader's attacks weren't easy to dodge.

This chapter was intense. Chapter 2 hit me a lot harder; The fact that Yakou was already dying when we killed him numbed a lot of the grief. It's hard for me to mourn him when he went out on his own terms, doing what he wanted.

Even though Yomi manipulated him, that remains true. Yakou wasn't under duress. He had weeks to weigh his options and think about it. He made his choice. I respect him for it. In a way, this feels less like Yakou being taken from us and more like shaking Yakou's hand and bidding him a fond farewell.

The mystery itself was fun to try and figure out. It was hard, complicated, and the true answer (Kung Lao hat) was a lot of fun. I enjoyed cracking the Most Locked-est Room Ever more than I enjoyed cracking the four standard Locked Rooms in Chapter 1.

This was great. Chapter 2's my fave but chapter 4's a close second. Now we're moving into chapter 5, and I'm excited to see what fresh hell Makoto has waiting for us.

I know I said "We'll fuck up Yomi today and if he sucks then we'll fuck up Makoto tomorrow" but I wasn't expecting Makoto to take that literally.

The Survivability Onion dictates that Political Science is and will be bogus.

Because a major nominal function of political science is breaching the survivability onion, particularly seeing and acquiring targets in power. (When discussing those who have left power, it's called "history".)

By construction, targets in power have the ability to interfere with this. By evolution, targets in power will interfere with this.

That sums up my thesis. It is not original, but I found this framing to be novel and concise.

To elaborate:

I am not attached to any particular chart of the Survivability Onion. It puts a funny name on principles that go back to Sun Tzu's Art of War. Here are two example charts to give the general idea.

Rephrased again: For an enemy to hurt you, he must know where you are, choose a weapon that can hurt you, aim that weapon at you, successfully fire, and land a hit. Interference in any of those steps makes it harder for the enemy to hurt you, whether that's hiding from the enemy or destroying ammunition supplies.

Some caveats apply, for example high-collateral weapons can skimp a little bit on knowing where the target is, but a grenade still has to be thrown into the right house.

When applied to people in power, "hurt" takes the form of being removed from power. The principles of the survivability onion, then, dictate that one can better remain in power by obfuscating how people might remove one from power.

Don't be seen: stay out of political science textbooks, sponsor books and courses that talk about other people, insist that power rests in other organizations. Don't be acquired: if you (or your organization) are mentioned in textbooks, look innocuous and irrelevant. Smear and discredit anyone who pays attention to you. "Conspiracy theory" is a great term here. Also, did you know you can just name organizations whatever you like? Don't be hit: if people recognize that you have substantial power and get mad at you, encourage or deceive them to oppose you in ways that do nothing. For example, trying to organize a "boycott" of a military supplier that ordinary people weren't buying from in the first place. Mislead your enemies to attack false targets. Don't be penetrated: if people manage to identify your power and organize to attack it, minimize the damage. For example, dissolve a front company which you can easily replace, because your power lies in the Rolodex. Don't be killed: don't be killed, literally and metaphorically. If you're in Congress, for example, appoint regulatory committee members who will remain on committee to enforce your will in case of your impeachment. Few people ever bother to go back and root out committee members. Organizationally, build redundancy so that the penetration and destruction of any one node does not take your entire powerbase with it.

He who has ears, let him hear! Understand why I do not name names.

Political science pretends to describe the location and operation of power. Insofar as it is accurate, it creates vulnerability. "How to take and keep power" is information that people in power would love to keep secret from their rivals. Insofar as people in power can affect political science in some way, political science will contain deceits and distractions. There is means, motive and opportunity to fuck with the field. There is selective pressure to fuck with the field.

This is not unique to any particular person or power structure. Political science is always and everywhere doomed to be a field subject to actively malicious misinformation.

There will be counterforces too: researchers genuinely interested in truth, honest politicians admitting how things work, historical events eventually passing into the realm of sine ira et studio as the contemporaries die off, lies colliding in consilience failures, and so on, resulting in some equilibrium with merely X% lies.

What is "Vega"?

so I was rewatching a few scenes and that line from Kane in the 2-part finale suddenly got my brain going brrrr about WORLDBUILDING!!! because if "Vega" was a thing completely made up by Kane, why would he talk as if the idea was an already-existing myth?? the implications are delicious to me, sooo. here's my own personal overly-elaborate theory/headcanon... *insert drumroll here*

Vega = "Anonymous"

by that I mean Vega is basically this universe's version of the hacker group...albeit much more focused and serious than ours. they're trying to save the world, after all.

there are many rumors, myths and conspiracy theories about what and where Vega is - "a spy organization in Cleveland" is just one of the bigger ones (for whatever reason lmao.) most of these stories have been planted by the members of Vega themselves, to make it all the more impossible to find them or prove their existence. they do their work quietly and thoroughly, without any announcement or warning, and any traces left of who they might be are either scrubbed or quickly swallowed up by all the tinfoil-hat "evidence" circulating around.

Vega is anywhere and anyone. they exist as a sprawling collective of spies, hacktivists, pirates, coders, digital archivists AND, perhaps most crucially...guerilla data cablers. any person with these skills is welcome to be part of the group, so long as they commit to The Priority.

"The Priority" is Vega's single unifying mission: to restore open, unrestricted internet to all corners of the post-apocalyptic world, and reconnect every pocket of civilization scattered around Earth. they believe achieving "complete connection" again is the key to saving humanity from total extinction.

are they gonna save the world with wifi? yes. yes they are.

there is no chain of command, no counsel, no head "in charge" of Vega handing out missions or telling everyone what to do...which means internal dissent happens a lot. but generally as long as the members all agree to dedicate their efforts to The Priority and work in good faith with each other, almost anything goes idea-wise...and yes, sometimes that does include taking direct action against fascist dictators. ;)

there are also four basic rules every member must follow while working in the group:

1 - "VEGA IS A MYTH." Vega will continue to "not exist" in the public eye until a two-thirds majority of the members agree that officially revealing themselves to the world is both necessary and unavoidable. they do this to make it harder for bad actors to weaponize their work or use their name for self-serving political gain.

2 - "SECRECY IS MANDATORY." YOU DO NOT TALK ABOUT FIGHT CLUB talking about Vega to outsiders is forbidden, unless inviting someone to join the cause. members revealing their identities to each other is also forbidden. anyone who publicly claims credit for something in Vega's name has either eventually been exposed as a fake, or thoroughly framed as a fake by the other members if one goes rogue.

3 - "CENSORSHIP IS THE ENEMY." having open access to the world's knowledge is absolutely sacred to Vega - it is THE "why" behind the "what" of their mission! so while members are free to act on their own, attacking libraries, journalists or the media is both forbidden and unforgivable. the only exception is when they find a media network/organization with censors or restrictions placed on it - in which case, they will only act to lift those restrictions, so people have the ability to find all the information for themselves.

4 - "CONNECTION IS THE PRIORITY." whatever the members do, their plans must be in service of Vega's mission in some way...whether it's restoring or preserving an ancient website, breaking into a new location to install or repair data cables, or hacking a corrupt politician's computer system.

there's a delicious irony in Kane using the "myth" of Vega to capture Mike. at some point in the future, the true Vega will play a key role in helping the Burners free the people of Deluxe from Kane's clutches once and for all...and finally, reconnecting all of Detroit with the outside world.

A sudden moment of brilliance came to her, she knew the exact location of Peter's house! Pietro had lived there for the majority of two years! She stopped running and teleported right outside his apartment.  

MJ almost crashed into her, she pulled her into the home and slammed the door shut behind Copy, not even a bit surprised to see her there. Happy, May, and Peter were all agitated.

"The windows! The windows!" MJ urged her.

May was arguing with Peter, who for some reason was half naked, while Happy was walking around looking a little lost. "Cat," he blinked once he noticed her presence. "What are you doing here? Why are you wearing your suit?"

Peter stared at her with wide eyes and wildly gesticulated to keep her mouth shut.

"What's that sound?" Happy asked.

She could hear the crowd gathering outside, screaming at them to get out. Cat and Peter shared a quick look before closing the windows and curtains, there was incessant knocking at the door but they decided to ignore it for the time being.

The adults' phones began to ring, a helicopter was now at the scene, and Cat clumsily teleported to turn off the tv, but it was too late, Happy and May had seen it. Peter walked up to the window defeatedly and lifted the curtain. Everyone approached to look outside except for Copycat.

Peter stared at all of them with a pleading look in his eyes. "I mean, maybe it's not such a big deal..."

"Yeah, alright," Cat's voice sounded heavily sarcastic. "Everyone knew who Iron Man was and Tony's life was just perfect!"

"Well, actually, he didn't have such a bad time!" Peter argued.

"He was rich!" She exclaimed. "Do you happen to have three million dollars to get us out of this?!"

"Stop talking!" MJ was just as anxious.

"Okay, everyone let's sit down and think!" May closed the curtain and guided the whole group back to the living room. "Everyone knows, but why are they angry?

"They think we killed Mysterio," she explained.

"What! Why?"

"They made it look like Cat and I planned the whole thing."

"But you didn't kill him!"

Cat and Peter shared a look. "I mean... I might've shot him one time too many."

"But it was self-defense, right?"

Her voice was sarcastic again. "Yeah, sure! Yeah, it was... defense for sure..."

"That's not the point!" Peter distracted them from the horrible fact. "What are we going to do? You quit S.H.I.E.L.D so they're not gonna help us—"

"They should! I was working for them when this whole thing happened!"

"Yeah, but they didn't tell you to kill Beck, right?" MJ said. "They can't lie and say they asked you to, people think he was a good dude, they won't buy it."

Cat couldn't believe how unfair this was. She'd fought in Sokovia! She was there when Vision was created, and when the accords had been signed, but Beck's name was on S.H.I.E.L.D's records, and she as far as the world knew, she'd never existed until now.

The organization had Mysterio as an out-of-this-world martyr, Agent Zero's file, on the other hand, talked about her vigilante life and her violent methods to keep the city clean and under control. She'd been looking for items stolen from the ruins of the compound. Those items could've easily been Stark drones.

"I have to hide..."

"No no no, don't say that, we can still fix this!"

"Happy, I killed Beck and he got it on camera!" She gasped, abruptly realizing the second, perhaps worst mistake she'd committed. "And you're involved!"

Happy fell back on his seat and stared ahead, speechless.

"Ned— we gotta check on him—"

"I'll do it," MJ stood quickly.

"No," Peter and Cat said.

"I'm innocent until proven guilty," MJ stated. "Besides I can't stay here, my dad must be going crazy right now."

"This is great. My first week out and..." Cat stopped midsentence, her brain was working fast that day. "That's it!"

"What?"

"They're looking for me," she placed one hand on her chest. "But they're not looking for all of the me's that I can be."

Peter frowned. "What do you mean?"

"I think I'll kill two birds with one stone, and finish my original mission," she looked at him with a serious expression. "But you can't get involved in this."

Instead of going back to her apartment, she went to Matthew's place.

He was in his living room going through some papers. At the sound of her teleporting, he stood, dropping everything. He searched around a little disoriented, but once he recognized her, he spoke.

"Since when can you do that?"

"I forgot you didn't know," she walked up to him and picked up the fallen paperwork. "Kurt can teleport and I copy him when I don't want to be followed..."

"I heard the news this morning," Matthew replied. "How are you?"

"I... I'm sorry," she said quietly, avoiding his face. "I didn't know where else to go."

The man stayed in place. "Did you really kill that man?"

A knot formed on her chest, Cat tried to think of a way to not sound crazy, but all that came out of her mouth was an apology. "I was too rash. I'm sorry."

Matthew stood to his full height, he wasn't wearing his glasses so it was easy to read his face. Instead of replying, he walked to the kitchen and opened his fridge.

"I... I wasn't thinking—"

"I doubt that."

"If you would've heard the way Peter spoke to me— he thought I didn't care, that I would turn my back on him..." Matthew was hidden behind the fridge's door, and this helped her speak honestly and not to stumble over her words. "Peter got run by a train because of Beck! I found him half-dead— Peter's just a kid, Matthew! I couldn't stand there and watch!"

Defeated, Cat fell on the couch heavily, hiding her face behind both hands. She wasn't crying, but the weight of her mistake was starting to overwhelm her, never before she'd been haunted in this way. Killing Mysterio had caused a snowball effect, and she'd ruined Spider-man's reputation and her own forever. Kurt was going to be so disappointed.

"Then he targeted my old friends... and he mentioned Tony... he tried to shoot Peter in the head..."

Matthew showed up next to her holding a pack of beers and offering a single bottle to her. Without understanding, Cat silently accepted the drink and opened it, he put the rest on the coffee table and sat beside to her.

"You were saying Beck tried to shoot the kid on the head," he said, inviting her to continue.

"Yes," she replied, giving him a confused look. "Peter's abilities saved him. He stopped the attack before Quentin could shoot."

"But that wasn't enough for you."

Cat lowered her gaze. "No. I wanted to make sure he would never hurt Peter again."

"So you shot him."

"Yes."

"How many times?"

"Two."

"Was he still holding the gun when you shot him?"

"No."

"Was he still standing?"

"Yes."

"Was he still in possession of the A.I?"

"Yes."

He grabbed a beer and opened it. "We can work with that."

Cat's gaze went back to him. "What?"

"He had the A.I. when you shot him. He was able to control the drones, right?"

She felt a bit of hope nestling in the middle of her stomach. "Yeah."

"Alright. So these are the facts," he leaned forward. "Spider-man's underage, all you can see in the video are two pairs of feet, according to Foggy, and when the camera moves up you can only see Copycat, cause Parker's standing next to Beck. Your face is covered, no one can't tell who she is, cause Quentin didn't have your real name."

"Right, 'cause I don't have one."

"But Copycat's the face of the young Avengers— and here's the important part— they put the word young at the front."

Cat tilted her head. "Where are you going with this?"

"For all we know, that day two minors fought for their lives and up until the last minute, Beck had the A.I. with him."

"Yeah but the video's edited so it looks like Peter had the glasses first—"

"Yeah, but when Peter has the glasses, Quentin's on the floor, remember? The camera's pointing at your feet and he's bleeding. How come one second he's bleeding out and at the other, he's wearing the glasses and on both feet? The fact remains that it was two underage heroes with one gun against a grown man with thousands of armed drones surrounding the bridge where you two were."

Cat didn't know if they could make the whole world change their minds, but Matthew's argument sounded pretty damn convincing, so much that for a moment she truly believed she'd acted in self-defense.

"Do you think Peter's going to get arrested?"

The man nodded briefly. "Sorry, Cat. It's plausible."

"Do you think you'd be able to defend him?"

He smiled a little. "What about you?"

"I don't need help."

Matthew raised his eyebrows. "Is S.H.I.E.L.D going to provide you with a lawyer?"

Cat scoffed. "I'm on my own."

"Then what's your plan?"

"I'll be C.C. Stark, or Katrina Maxwell, at least until things cool down. Once everyone forgets about Copy, I'll go back to being a quiet hero. You know, no flashy activities during daylight, and if I have no choice, I guess I'll go stealth."

"I don't think they'll let you go that easily. The government will go after you for the rest of your life even if you do the right thing."

"I'm not interested in being perceived in any particular way by the rest of the world... I just wanted to see you." Cat came to the conclusion that it was best to be sincere. "Now that I did I feel better, even if I shouldn't."

Matthew frowned. "You came to me because you wanted my opinion? I thought you just wanted to hide."

"I didn't want your opinion," she confessed. "I wanted to explain myself."

"I just said you didn't do anything wrong..."

"Yeah, and I honestly think I'll be crying about that later tonight, but I thought... I don't know... I don't want you to hate me."

"I'd be a hypocrite if I turned my back on you now. I'm not a saint, Cat."

"But you've never killed anyone..."

"You know what makes you better than me?" He reached for one of her hands and rubbed it gently. "You regret your actions. You wanted to protect your friends, I only do things to prove that I'm better than the bad guys."

Cat placed her beer on the coffee table, her body facing away from him, but she held his hand tighter. "You contradict yourself, Matthew. You have a heart, you're just really unhappy... like me."

He chuckled. "That's good?"

"Magneto? Oh please." Harold rebuffed with a throwaway hand gesture. "Not to mention that I can't currently imagine what that old fart and his freaks would want with a power plant, of all things ..." Mildly amused, he caught an irritated twitch around Rachel's pretty bright eyes. Well, with him she had chosen the wrong man to lecture. He had been in this business far too long for that. And even if someone would try to rob his chair at some point, he would get a new lucrative job within a few weeks. No need to worry about routine checks by the authorities. "There has never been a single hostile incident in my building. Every single person who enters and leaves this house is thoroughly checked out. As I have pointed out ..." He fished an information sheet from his desk that told visitors about the not always entirely pleasant measures at the entrances.

Raven hissed, relieved to be out of the haze of this chubby creep of a homo sapiens for at least a few minutes. There were jobs that required mentally stubbornly telling yourself over and over again what you were actually doing them for. Otherwise, she probably would have long since snapped this sexist moron's neck with her bare hand. Unfortunately, she still needed the guy. As tempting as it sounded to get rid of him, to take his place so that Erik could take up his plans in this building here undisturbed, she simply didn't have the time. It was difficult enough on many days to play her parade role as Senator Kelly without attracting anyone's attention because she spent far less time in Congress than would have been appropriate. For now, unfortunately, they needed this Simmons guy. But it would give her a lot of greatest pleasure to shut him up. She knew what she needed to know now, and by the time she got back, the guy would hopefully have provided full access to the plant's computer system. Then Raven could finally get on with her actual work. She took a quick peek into one of the offices she passed, entered the restroom just long enough to match her physical shape to that of one of the female employees, and then hurried to the coffee kitchen as unobtrusively as she could, where a red-haired, obviously completely overwhelmed girl was filling two cups with flying hands. "Mandy? One of the Swedes is asking for you."

"Great, this just keeps on getting better. You take the tray to Harold. You know he hates to wait. You don't have anything to do anyway, do you? That's what I thought. Hurry up." Cursing and swearing, without even waiting for a reply, the young woman ran past her.

"With the greatest of pleasure." Raven kicked the kitchen door shut with her heel and reached for a blister of pills she had brought with her in a pouch of flesh under her sternum. After a moment's thought, she dissolved three sleeping pills in one of the cups instead of the usual two. It would be a relief to hear her talkative friend fall silent as soon as possible.

"Wait, that wasn't the point. You're a guest here. Where's my assistant?" Frowning, Harold looked up when she single-handedly balanced the large tray of coffee and cookies into his office.

"I guess your girl had more important things to do. Vanished in some broom closet with a male coworker. This was in the kitchen." Raven smiled sweetly and handed Simmons his requested caffeine refill. "Laptop?"

"We can work on mine. Have a seat." Patronizingly, the man patted the seat of the leather chair he'd placed next to his, barely more than a few inches from it, and typed a few letters into his keyboard. In celebration of Earth Month, we will be sharing a series of recent interviews that tie directly into the environmental mission of Down to Earth Markets. This week we are pleased to feature a recent chat with Serge Lazarev, founder of Green Tree Textiles, that we conducted during a tour of their Hunt’s Point, NY recycling warehouse last month. 

Down to Earth Markets has partnered with Green Tree Textiles since 2011 to collect textiles for reuse and recycling in green bins at many of our farmers markets. Leaders in the local textile recycling movement, Green Tree picked up and processed a whopping 6.3 million pounds of donated clothes, shoes, bags and linens between 2020-2023! Read on to learn more about this remarkable non-profit and the work they’re doing to divert unwanted, post-consumer textiles from the waste stream. 

How did the incarnation of Green Tree Textiles come about and what was your initial goal for the organization? 

Serge: Around 2008, I was working in operations for a gasoline retailer, an industry that is directly associated with creating lots of pollution. I had been on this career path for fifteen years and the longer I remained on it, the less of a future I saw for myself. At that time, newly elected President Obama was advocating for green jobs and working towards a more sustainable future for our country and the planet. I was inspired by his words and started to research solar panels as well as metal and plastic recycling business opportunities. 

I discovered that many of these recycling businesses were costly to start and there was already a steady recycling return rate on some of the waste materials. Then I stumbled upon an interesting statistic from the EPA that said 85% of unwanted textiles were not being picked up by the recycling industry and was ending up in landfills and incinerators. That’s when the light went off in my head! I realized that here I was in a job selling gasoline along a one mile stretch of road with ten other gas stations in sight, while all these materials were just out there being thrown away with no one doing anything about it. So there and then I decided to start GTT with the mission of keeping unwanted textiles out of the waste stream.

April is Earth Month, a time to raise environmental awareness about the issues and challenges facing our planet. Why is textile recycling important for the health of our environment? 

Serge: Clothing manufacturing and its products negatively affect the environment in a major way, beginning at the very outset of production. The fashion industry uses vast amounts of water, non-natural dyes, and chemically engineered materials and is estimated to be responsible for 10% of global carbon emissions – more than international flights and maritime shipping combined. It is the second largest polluting industry in the world after oil and gas.

At the end of their life, most of these textiles are thrown away and end up in landfills or incineration ovens, creating yet more pollution. To solve it this issue must be addressed on many levels, starting with the manufacturing process, consumer shopping habits, and end of life procedure. We need to move towards creating a circular economy that will save both money and the planet. The good news is that industries focused on recycling and reusing textiles are slowly emerging and getting stronger by the year.

Many of Green Tree Textiles’ drop-off locations can be found in local farmers markets? Why do farmers markets make a good spot for your green textile collection bins?

Serge: When recycling is convenient, people are more likely to do it! It’s important to make it as easy as possible, just like the convenience of recycling bottles and cans in receptacles that can be found on every street. Textile recycling should be available in places that you’re going to go to anyway, such as a farmers market. Plus, the demographic of people who shop at farmers markets intersects closely with those who are interested in the environment and making sure that their clothing doesn’t end up in the waste stream.

What kind of textiles do you accept and what should shoppers avoid putting in your collection bins? Should items be bagged or can they be tossed in loosely?

Serge: We accept clothing, shoes, sheets, towels, handbags, and fashion accessories like belts. We do not accept pillows, comforters, blankets, bathroom mats, rugs, plastic toys, books, suitcases, and kitchen gear. We prefer items to be bagged as it protects pieces that are in good condition from getting dirty during the transportation process. If bags are not available, placing loose items in the bins also works.  

What happens to the textiles that are dropped off in your collection bins in Down to Earth Farmers Markets? How are they recycled/reused/repurposed?

Serge: I and two of my associates hand-sort and process an average of 5,000 pounds of textile donations a day! The breakdown of what we receive is about 75% clothing, 15% shoes, 7% linens and 3% other. We methodically separate donations into two main categories: Reuse and Recycle. The items suited for reuse are given to our charity partners or sold to our for-profit partners. The materials for recycling are sent out to become textile insulation that's used in walls and for soundproofing. You can take a peek at that process in this short video.

The issue of unwanted and discarded textiles is a growing problem fueled by the consumption of fast fashion. What do you think the major drivers are behind this growing problem?

Serge: There are more discarded textiles than ever currently because the population is growing so more clothing is needed for everyone. In light of this, I would encourage consumers to purchase clothing made of organic materials such as cotton and wool whenever possible, to purchase pieces that will be in style for more than one season, to buy clothing from a secondhand store, and to always be mindful of which path you let your garments take next. 

What is the difference between GTT and the other collection boxes you see in public locations? 

Serge: Green Tree Textiles is committed to making sure that the clothing and other textile donations we receive do not enter the waste stream. If the item is no longer suitable for reuse in its original form, then we make sure there is a recycling option for it. We are also looking to get certified for the carbon credits we generate, which will further differentiate us from similar entities.

I remember my first orgasm like it was yesterday. Similar to how you never forget your first kiss, you always remember your first orgasm. It is cemented in your memory forever. My first orgasm was the most magical thing I’ve ever experienced. I literally saw the heavens open and heard angels singing from up above. Up until that point orgasms were like seeing a good Madea movie, I heard they existed but I ain’t never seen one. I couldn’t quite put my finger on the issue. I was having plenty of sex but the Big O I kept hearing so much about kept bypassing me. 

It wasn’t until I learned about my body and what turned me on that I experienced my first orgasm; it was a clitoral orgasm. Penis alone rarely got the job done for me, I always needed some type of clitoral stimulation and according to research, I wasn’t alone. About 70% of women need clitoral stimulation to orgasm. The clitoris is composed of 8,000 nerve endings, which is about 2,000 more than the tip of the penis, plus it is the only organ in the human body designed purely for pleasure. So, it makes all the sense in the world that most women would need clitoral stimulation to orgasm. It’s how our bodies are designed. 

But wait, there’s more! Did you know that in addition to clitoral, there are 11 different types of orgasms that women can experience? You could literally attempt to have a different type of orgasm every day for almost two weeks without repeating one. Some orgasms solely focus on the vagina while others allow you to feel pleasure in ways you never knew existed. Why limit yourself when you can taste all the colors of the orgasmic rainbow? 

From clitoral orgasms to nipple orgasms and all the places in between, here are all the kinds of orgasms the female body is capable of. 

1.​G-spot orgasm: 

G-spot orgasms are the most coveted orgasm of them all yet not always the easiest to experience. The G-spot is located about two to three inches inside the vagina and feels a little bit spongy. Pressing this spot gently and stroking it lightly is the best way to stimulate this area. When sexually aroused, the G-spot will fill with blood and swell up with fluid. Touching it in a way that feels good to you with fingers, your partner's penis (or strap), a dildo, or a vibrator can trigger what many women describe as deeply intense, that in most cases trigger squirting.

2.A-spot orgasm: 

The Anterior Fornix Orgasm aka “second G-spot” is located above the cervix and is achieved by deep penetration. About four to five inches in the vagina is sensitive tissue near the inner front end of the vaginal tube. This area generally does not become too sensitive after orgasm so it can be continued to be stimulated.

3.U-spot orgasm: 

This kind of female orgasm comes from stimulating a small area of sensitive erectile tissue located on either side of the urethral opening. It is in the small area between the urethra and the vagina. This spot can be stimulated with the tongue, fingers, or tip of the penis or dildo.

4.Nipple orgasm: 

Did you know that most women can climax if their nipples are stimulated properly? Nipples are major erogenous zones; they're loaded with nerve endings and super-sensitive skin. When the nipples are stimulated, oxytocin is released, which causes the same vaginal contractions associated with orgasm. This brings more blood flow to the genitals and can trigger an orgasm. 

5.Anal orgasm: 

I know that most of us have our reservations when it comes to anal sex; but, if done properly, a butt orgasm can be just as powerful as a clitoral one. Because the anus and rectum are so close to the vagina and clitoris—and are connected by a thin stretch of tissue called the perineum—they share many of the same nerves and muscles, including the pelvic floor muscle. The pelvic floor muscle is highly sensitive for many women, and stimulating it can trigger a vaginal orgasm. All that’s needed is a lot of preparation and tons of lube!

6.Blended orgasm:

A blended orgasm is like ‘the best of both worlds.' It’s a climax that happens when more than one erogenous zone is being stimulated at the same time. G-spot penetration along with clitoral stimulation is one way to experience a blended orgasm, but it could also come from vaginal penetration along with clitoral, nipple, or anal stimulation.

7.Coregasm:

Coregasms are orgasms that are triggered by exercise. It isn’t one of the toe-curling, mind-blowing orgasms you read about in books either. Although this is something I’ve never experienced, a study from Indiana Universityfound that 370 of 530 women surveyed had experienced orgasm or sexual pleasure while working out, usually from core-based exercises.

8.Sleep-gasm ("snore-gasm"):

The sheer power of the brain means that anyone can orgasm while they sleep. Orgasms happen in the brain, and the brain is quite active at night. In your sleep, your mind can freely explore your sexual fantasies without feeling rushed or judged. This can turn you on so much that you can end up having an orgasm without even touching yourself.

9.Cervical orgasm: 

Also known as a “c-spot orgasm” involves nerve endings located in the cervix and around the uterus. Cervical orgasms are best achieved during deep vaginal penetration such as doggy-style. Cervical orgasms have been reported as very intense, full-body orgasms that begin in the cervix and spread through the entire abdomen or even the whole body.

10. Kissing orgasm: 

​According to the Kama Sutra, passionate kissing can spark an orgasm for both men and women. It states that a woman’s mouth mirrors her genitals, with the lips like the labia, the cupid’s bow like the clitoris, and the roof of the mouth like the G-spot. Our lips are also full of nerve endings, similar to the nipples and the clitoris. The roof of the mouth is said to be one of the most neglected erogenous zones, so by gently rubbing and flicking it with your tongue, it has the potential to stimulate an orgasm.

11. Multiple orgasms: 

Not to be confused with blended orgasms, multiple orgasms are orgasms that happen one right after the other, with no prolonged stopping in between. These are more common in women and less common in men. “11:00 pm? Again?” you rubbed the back of your head trying to hide your frustration, the store manager nodded his head, sighing you agreed to stay late at work again since the closer frankly did not want to stay. So now here you are grumbling as you finish sweeping the floor and checking it off your log. You worked at a high end grocery store named Anavrin, a store that swore to sell organic produce and products to the best of quality. You took up a job here in your senior year of high school, planning on working for a few months to save up for college. And yet… 4 years later you’re still here grumbling at the extra hours you had taken. After your second year of working you had a promotion to supervisor… woo hoo!!... but it turned out it was more responsibility than expected. But it paid a little more and you could not argue with that.

‘I should be a little more optimistic, I’m graduating uni this year’ you’d tell yourself anytime you wanted to pull your hair out because of your measly job. You finished turning off the lights and locking the door, sighing as you felt the cold fall air hit your tired face, taking a deep breath of fresh air… wait a second “Who the fuck is smoking weed!” you yelled in a girly voice, as if this day was not long enough. They definitely were not paying you enough for the store, but giving you a delinquent like this guy… you had written your resignation letter a few times after his nightly visits. Eyes narrowed as you tilted your head up to glare at him, but realized you were a lot closer than you expected. As the shift progressed Yuji showed you he was the complete opposite of his older brother. Always finishing his tasks, being kind and sweet. Everyone else loved him too, just on the first day. He was stocking milk and eggs the way you had shown him, one of the last tasks of the night. The crowd of customers thinned out as it got late and the store was closer to its closing time. Work was more mundane as ever. Emptying, stocking, organizing and talking was all that seemed to happen. You frowned for the nth time in the day when you saw Yuji was not scheduled to work today and you remembered him mentioning that he was going somewhere with friends for the next two days. The boy could always turn a bad day around. He was a blessing to the department and the store as a whole. The long day finally came to an end and the weekend awaited. Stuffing your uniform in your bag as you walked out you saw a familiar motorbike and a man leaning against it getting ready to light a joint.

You didn’t think, all you could hear were your footsteps smacking against the pavement as you ran to the man. Blood rushed to your head as you slowed down, stopping barely an inch away from him. He was wearing jeans and a dress shirt and most important, that smirk.

“Maybe you should come over sometime” you smiled sweetly, blushing a bit.

“I’d like to see you more, take out and get to know you” he said, interrupting your invitation.
