AG Dolls That Are Actually “Worth” Something.
*not a definitive list.
A salty post by me, who is tired of seeing half dead Mollys for $600.
Most AG dolls in played with condition won’t get you more than $35-$85 second hand. However, there are the rare exceptions.
**always check the market before hand, this is a general guideline from my experiences**
Historical Characters.
NIB and EUC w/box Pleasant Company Dolls. The price is entirely dependent on the box wear and tear, the character, condition of the doll, and how old the doll is.
Characters with their “meet” hair styles intact and untampered. Particularly Molly and JLY #1. Collectors can tell if you’re lying about this, so it’s best not to scheme and scam.
White body dolls. This describes extremely early PC dolls who have a white muslim body instead of a tan cloth body. The only characters that can be white body dolls are Kirsten, Samantha, and Molly. Even if the white body doll is TLC, you could probably still get a couple hundred dollars from it.
PC dolls with no sign of silver eye. Silver eye is a defect where the color from a given characters eyes degrades overtime, leaving the silver underneath the colour visible. AG will fix this for free, however many do not want their Pleasant Company dolls eyes to be replaced with Mattel eyes, which are very different.
Beforever Molly. Beforever Molly was a short time Costco release, and now she costs the price of heart transplant.
Cecile, Caroline, and Marie Grace- AKA the Holy Trinity of Collecting. You’re cool cat matt if you have these dolls in the AG community! The envy of doll town. Marie and Caroline’s average prices have gone down in the past year, but Cecile still averages being over $100. You can easily list Marie or Caroline for a ridiculous price over $100 if they’re EUC or NIB.
The “Friend Dolls.” This includes Elizabeth, Nellie, Ruthie, Emily and Ivy. In my experience, Ivy goes for the most on average. Again, price is very much dependent on the condition of the doll.
Historicals with their pre beforever outfits. Keep in mind that this will only raise the price by like $5, if at all. Collectors generally prefer the Mattel outfits over the Beforever outfits (I mean can you blame them?? Look how dirty they did Julie.). Some dolls do not have updated outfits, including Kaya, Caroline, Cecile, Marie Grace, Nellie, Ruthie, Nanea, Maryellen, Nanea, Emily, Melody and Ivy.
Characters with their “small” accessories intact. Kit’s green hair clip. End of story.
Characters being sold in “rare” outfits. Addy’s patriotic dress. Josefina’s weaving outfit. Kit’s beforever chicken overalls. If you sell your doll in a sought after HTF outfit, the quality of the doll is out the window and people will throw money at you. My favorite thing to do is stalk auctions of these dolls in my free time and see how much people pay.
“Gazer/Dreamer” Dolls. This was a Pleasant Company defect in which the eyes of a doll gazed, and are unable to look into a camera. I’ve seen this defect on Samantha, Molly and Felicity, but it probably affects Kirsten too.
Signed dolls. This is different than artist marks. A signed doll is a doll that has a physical signature by Pleasant Rowland or an AG author. That I know of, dolls signed by popular AG bloggers don’t have an increase in price.
Prototype dolls. Occasionally there has been prototypes floating around the market. This always intrigues the community and is a Big Deal.
GOTY.
Would this even be a post about expensive AGs if I never mentioned Sonali and Gwen?
Kanani. Kanani has gone down in price in the last year, however she is sought after, as she is one of only two dolls produced by AG to have a tan jess mold. Her design is also unique for AG’s GOTY line. Price is entirely dependent on how ratty she is, but I’ve seen extremely TLC Kananis still sell for $70+
Grace. For some reason. I really don’t understand the logic of why Grace can be pricey, but it’s worth a shot I suppose, although she also goes for the normal used AG price too.
Gabriela McBride. Gabriela is the only Black GOTY, and did not sell well at all due to her uncanny resemblance to a Truly Me. She does tend to go for less now that she has been a part of Costco releases, but she can still be pricey.
Tenney and Logan. AG’s resident racists- I mean contemporary characters.
Z Yang.
Recently retired dolls that haven’t really shown up on the market yet.
NIB/EUC with box GOTYs, particularly if they are older.
Early GOTYs (Lindsey, Kailey) that are not affected by grey casting.
Truly Me.
First release JLY 6. Probably the most expensive AG doll on resale to date.
Most of the retired dolls of color (JLY 4, JLY 18, JLY 11.... if I listed all of them we’d be here for eternity).
JLY 27 w/ perma earrings. This is just another collecting oddity that people really like. Including me.
JLY 21 w/ pin curls.
JLYs with the Red Vinyl Jumper Meet in good condition.
Retired dolls NIB/EUC with box. This is pretty self explanatory at this point.
Oddities.
CYOs. I’ve seen CYOs sold for over their original price ($200), which I think is a little odd but it’s a thing. You can get away with this particularly if your CYO has a retired feature (short hair with bangs *cough*) or a retired meet outfit that isn’t janky.
Customs made by popular customizers. Be sure to ask if you can sell it first though. Some customizers want to be able to have complete control on where their art goes, which is a controversial debate I’m not going to discuss in this.

My Fashion Connection
I’ve been trying to pin down lately why I love fashion and fashion design. Because I don’t love clothes and designing clothes and the choosing of fabrics because of the glitz and glam of high end runway shows and the glossy pages of Vogue magazine and adulation of famous design houses. Most of that I didn’t even know about until I went to school. I didn’t choose fashion because of any of those things. I really wanted to go into Computer Game Design because of games like Myst.
Growing up in a very small town in the middle of the southern tier of New York, fashion wasn’t anything that anyone in our town was interested in except the town pageant queen who had a ‘reputation.’ It’s dairy country. My town was and is much more interested in dirt bikes, hunting and fishing and kegger beer parties. There were a couple of families that were more well to do and worked at Cornell or IBM and thus wore nicer clothes but out of a town of say 50 to 100 people, there were more cows and farmers and retirees. It’s the type of town when two of the young people marry each other, the entire town becomes related.
My mother is a home sewer. I hate the term sewer in professional capacity because it has the connotations of a house wife sitting at home making amateur garments. My mother made a lot of my sister’s clothes growing up and when she started sending me to Christian schools with dress codes, she also made clothes for me. (Mostly jumpers.) Eventually she either got tired of sewing or felt that we needed to buy things to keep up appearances and she stopped. (This ended up with us shopping in budget discount overrun boutique shops. Yes. A thing. Family Dollar and Dollar General didn’t exist yet! And mother hadn’t discovered the “joys” of the Salvation Army and second hand or they simply weren’t close enough to shop at.)
In a tiny town, you have to drive almost an hour in every direction to get to anything that remotely resembles a fabric shop. Except, between our tiny town and the city of Ithaca we got lucky, because out in a nowhere more nowhere than our nowhere was a tiny fabric shop run by a petite old woman named Leona.
To get to Leona’s shop, you took this very twisty road over and through the hills and turned right when you finally hit another ‘major’ road. And then off to the left less than a mile was a huge stand of pine trees and in the middle of these pines was a dirt drive. You’d drive up the hill between these tall pines the rocks in the dirt crunching under your tires that opened onto a clearing on top of a hill that held a farm. Leona ran her shop out of her home, a one story mixture of a red roofed, white trailer with an add on to make it an L shape. The barn hadn’t been kept up and the red stain was fading and the barn was falling apart. You parked on the edge of the drive, hoped it hadn’t rained lately and it wasn’t pure mud so you could get back out. (If you got stuck, there was always the local farmer with a tractor and chains to pull you out.) You had to park on the edge because despite the fact the farm wasn’t an active farm, she rented out the land and your cars needed to be out of the way for the tractors to get through.
She had the shop in the add on built on the back of the trailer. Firewood piled up next to the screen door and cats lounged everywhere. Leona liked hoarding things so the walkway had gnomes, garden statues and benches and wheelbarrows and yes, there was a tiny garden windmill in the middle of the circular drive. If it was winter, salt crunched under your boots and you had to walk carefully across the ice covered mud slush. If it was spring or summer, there were flowers peeping up among the grass.
And once you crossed the threshold, warmth, Leona smiling with her curly short white hair and the measuring tape around her neck behind the measuring counter. Bolts and bolts of colorful and textured fabrics lined the walls and the blank spaces of walls over tables were old fashioned wall paper in dark red with ducks or cream and pink rose prints and warm golden colored wood panels. Painted sawblades provided decoration. The clock might have been a novelty item, a cow or a cat or even something with shears for the hands. I can’t remember. (There might have been all three.) It smelled mostly of sawdust, dust and in the winter, the sharp smell of a burning fire from the potbelly stoves. Leona’s help were also middle aged or older ladies like her and they weren’t quite as friendly, but they were helpful.
Leona stocked her shop by going down to NYC and buying overruns from the warehouses. (Overruns are fabrics that designers don't end up using and fabrics manufacturers make too much of because they predict more sales than they make. Most fabric retail stores are stocked by overruns.) She mostly had colorful cotton prints and upholstery fabric. There was a little fashion fabric and by the time I hit high school, she had things like stretch velvet. She mostly sold to quilters and people like my mother. Cornell doesn’t have a fashion design program, only a science textiles program, but she’d occasionally get students. Her hours were irregular. I don’t know if she ever turned a profit. She encouraged touching the fabric. (Though she didn’t like children taking bolts out of the shelves for good reason.) She didn’t mind that I wandered about away from my mother. She always remembered me no matter how much time had passed.
But every time I go into a fabric shop, there is still that bit of magic from going to Leona’s. When I returned from college, I wanted to go and show Leona some of my projects. She died before I got the chance and I still regret that.
Professional shops like Mood, Britex, B&J’s and to an extent the discount fabric warehouse that I used during college in San Francisco make me shake my head because the workers don’t always feel helpful. They don’t make you feel like every customer is important. They aren’t like Leona, as frail as she was, with her sunny smiles and slightly raspy voice, glasses, and cheerful attitude and love of textiles.
I also had Barbie. I’ve talked about Barbie and my love of Barbie. I would play with Barbie rather than with baby dolls. (My baby dolls took lots of naps according to my mother.) And I loved the clothing packs. I loved dressing and undressing her and trying new outfits out of the outfits I had. Barbie was a safe present to buy for me when I was growing up, because a) that meant my group of Barbie’s got new clothes and b) if this Barbie had different color hair or skin then I got more variety in my Barbies. (My favorite was the long red headed mermaid with the teal outfit. This was back when the tail was a “Skirt” you could take on and off.) I had maybe one Ken and I inherited a lot of clothes from my older sister who grew out of Barbie about the time I started getting interested. Some of them were homemade but I couldn’t get my mother to make more and she wouldn’t teach me how to sew to make them myself. (In fact, she said it was too hard and downright discouraged it. Guess who doesn’t really like sewing? Me.)
Today, I love Monster High and Ever After High, but if they’d existed when I was a child, I wouldn’t have gotten them because of my parents’ extreme dislike of anything related to monsters, ghosts or Halloween. (I am a November child people. This is ridiculous. Come on, I share a birthday with Bram Stoker. OKAY.)
And somewhere in that time, (1992 apparently, man, I was younger than I thought) when I was getting a pittance of an allowance and had saved money from Christmas, I had enough money to buy a new Barbie or a Crayola Fashion Design stencil/tracing kit. This was before Project Runway. This was before the idea that these Fashion Drawing kits were thought to be remotely popular. No one thought that little girls might like drawing clothes! (Go figure.) The Easy Bake Oven was still the biggest and most innovative thing for a girl’s toy. But Crayola came out with a stencil kit with a bunch of papers that had design outlines, and pattern rubbing plates and a light box. Everything in the kit was meant to fit in the light box. The light box was plastic, pink and ran on D batteries (not included bummer.) And I had just enough money to buy it or a new Barbie. (I think my only other difficult choice that compares to this was the Star Craft Battle Chest and something else and I chose the Battle Chest.)
Tumblr media
(I can't believe I found a picture of that, someone is selling one on ebay.) Because, I mean, a new Barbie would only give me one set of new clothes, with this fashion design kit I could draw clothes, lots and lots and lots of clothes. I had always been an artistic child. I liked drawing. This had never really been encouraged except in the “here, have another set of colored pencils, pastels, watercolors, no lessons included.” So, here was Barbie in paper form! I didn’t have to take the clothes on and off. I could just trace what they had on the sheets or try to come up with stuff myself.
Tumblr media
Pages of my Fashion Design Kit Now
I’m not going to say I was very good at it. The point was, I had fun, this was something to do that didn’t involve playing a game on the computer or reading a book or practicing my piano and I hadn’t gotten into writing at this age. So, from using this stencil, I started with encouragement of one of my friends, to try and make it more real life proportion and draw the figures myself (once again without any sort of drawing classes. The art classes at my school were a joke.) I bought sketchbooks and took them to school with me. I started writing because of this same friend.
It was frankly an escape. My allowance never grew bigger. So, it went towards buying new books to read, sketchbooks and replenishing my Crayola colored pencils. (Though Imperial ones were better but I only got those out of the colored pencil color by number kits.) I didn’t buy fashion magazines. The idea of fashion as a career wasn’t on my radar. I didn’t have a career on my radar. College was one of those, “I’ll think about it later,” things.
The girls at my school who were cheerleaders and liked fashion weren’t precisely my friends and felt like complete foreigners and strangers to me. I didn’t ‘get’ them. We had our groups and we stuck to them. Having arrived to this school after the groups were formed, I fit nowhere and living so far away from everyone else, there was no way that I could feasibly see to hang out with them after school in order to get to know them well enough to fit into one of the groups at all.
Magazines were a luxury in our house. Vogue never made it into the house ever. It took until after 7th grade and a major fight that we even got the newspaper. So by the time I hit eleventh and twelfth grade and college was ‘mandatory’ and I had a list of requirements for what college I could go to, I had to look through what the colleges offered versus what I was interested in and thought I could be good at. (Let me say that writing wasn’t considered because my mother was very anxious about me being able to have a ‘real job.’) And the practice test for the ACT in 10th grade came with this odd employment aptitude test thing to help you find the job that would be the right fit. (Goodness knows if it was remotely accurate.) Fashion design was in my “right fit” category. And between all the majors, there was a tiny college in Ohio that happened to have a Fashion Design degree under their Health and Human Services Major. And since the only computer graphics and gaming major I could find was at a Calvinist college in Michigan, I thought the Mennonite College in Ohio was probably a better idea.
I didn’t read fashion magazines. I didn’t know really how to sew. (Sewing lessons with my mother were a complete disaster.) I couldn’t make a pattern. I had absolutely no portfolio. There were three things I liked, writing, computer games and drawing clothes. And let’s be clear, I wasn’t that great at drawing clothes and my designs at the time probably weren’t that innovative. I had to make a choice and what very little information I could glean from the Ithaca Public Library (seriously, you’d think having Ithaca College and Cornell, the library would be better,) fashion seemed the way to go. It was a massive industry. It had to have work available after I attained my degree.
Oh to be that young and naïve again. Probably sheltered is the better term.
I was over a year and a half into my fashion degree at this tiny college when someone finally thought to clue me in that “to get a design degree you have to have an art minor.” Realizing that this was utterly ridiculous and that making patterns in ¼ of the size wasn’t really going to get me anywhere after trying to talk with one of the other students about whether or not we could really get work after going to this school, (I’m sorry, sweetie, I hope you realized I was trying to convince myself as well as you,) I transferred out and into the Academy of Art. (And this took another large fight.)
Where, I had a lot of credits but I essentially had to start from the beginning. So, having those credits wasn’t actually to my advantage because the numbers of credit hours earned made it appear that I had more experience than I did. This got me more scrutiny and really a worse college experience.
Let’s understand something, I grew up in New York. The Fashion Institute of Technology is part of the SUNY system of colleges. I was a New York resident. It would have been fairly cheap for me to go to FIT. My parents didn’t want me in NYC or at a secular school. Parsons was always out of the question because it’s as costly as Cornell and I understood that. FIT would have been an extremely LOGICAL CHOICE.
Oh well, I loved San Francisco. I loved the big city/small town feel of it and the ability to walk most places and the public transit. If it wasn’t so expensive to live there, I might still be there.
So, schooling wore away at me, but it didn’t dim my love of creating clothes. My love of creating clothes was never founded or predicated upon the idea that success was a runway show and a big fancy store and my name in lights. I didn’t want to be the next Coco Chanel. I didn’t know who she was and at the time I started drawing clothes, I frankly didn’t care. My going into fashion was me going “here is something I love and enjoy doing, can I make a job out of it? Yes. Yes. I can.”
No one can take that from me. I might get bored or tired, but you can’t take the love of creating away from me.
And by the way, I still don’t read Vogue. It’s out of date before it’s printed and 75% advertisements. I also still don’t care about a runway show or seeing my name in lights as a “name” of a brand. That’s not the fashion price point I do or understand. And that’s okay, despite the push by fashion schools to design for that price point and that should be your goal, there is a lot more to fashion than ready to wear. Maybe that gives me an advantage, maybe it doesn't. That's not my connection to fashion. Magical fabric shops, Barbie, Crayola, the joy of creating, those are my fashion connections. And those are a lot more tangible than a runway or a name in lights by my account.

OH ALSO one other thing i know about yokai watch is that the european dub has the currency in british pounds! (Or australian dollars or every other currency for every language)
Thats just REALLY COOL cos seriously its so uncommon to see a game use £ currency! For some reason all our dubbed games tend to keep american dollars even when they change other stuff into british english. Tho also they barely ever change stuff into british english so thats why every 90s kid in our country was super confused by the show Recess. (Its just called "afternoon break" over here...) It became kind of a running joke how the first harry potter book had changes like philosopher's stone to sorcerer's stone and jumpers to sweaters etc. "Ha ha thos americans are dumb wanting stuff changed to fit them" we thought, not realizing how cool it would be to have american stuff retranslated so we'd 100% understand it since we'd never got to actually experience that. I mean even nowadays i work hard to correct myself into using american english on this blog but i'd never ask my american friends to translate their stuff! Its weird...
And obviously if its uncommon for british english its INFINATELY more uncommon for other english dialects! I know how privilaged we are to get even this!
Seriously i have only ever seen three games in my life that used british £, and two of them are for the 3ds! The other is tomodachi collection, and then a british made dating sim called lucky rabbit reflex. Which is funny cos thats the only actual british made game ive ever seen that didnt use dollars or some made up fantasy gold currency or something. Even our own stuff suffers from the "it has to be americanized to be sold internationally" syndrome! Like harry potter was already a multi million sensation before it got exported to america, and they still wanted to change all that stuff to be american and only stopped when they got negative feedback from both american and british fans. Its way harder for franchises that dont have as much saying power in their own decisions when getting redubbed.
Which also depressingly reminds me how stuff like SU has no choice in the matter when cartoon network decides to cut out stuff for being too gay in the goddamn british broadcast. God i hate how our country has had civil rights go backwards recently!!!!
Anyway in summary i still fuckin hate my country's government but im glad to occasionally see stuff in our language and currency and all. I'm determined that if i ever publish a game im gonna hire consultants to not only make translations to other languages but also english sub-dialects, because seriously its a really overlooked problem. Im privilaged that british english is like the second most well known dialect next to american yet we still get so little dub edits! If we're this bad then damn it must be so much worse for everyone else!!! One of my artist idols on deviantart published a cool book about translation differences between american and malaysian english and i still keep it pride of place on my shelf cos wow its a really interesting read! (And also a great comickified way to present educational stuff!) I wanna especially try and get malaysian english mode added to all of my games cos now i have multiple friends from this country and also i love seeing the malaysian indie gamemaking scene gaining more profit nowadays. Re:Legend is a great malaysian game im supporting on kickstarter and i made a rambley video advertising it on my youtube!!!
Man im going offtopic now sorry...
Man i need to go find that book again cos wow that was several years ago and i dont really go on deviantart anymore. I wonder if that cool lady is still making amazing comics? Her work was another place where i saw positive representation of trans and genderqueer folk before i did my journey of self discovery and realized i was one of them. Also she was really nice to me back when i was a tiny stupid kid entering some dumb art tournement back when i could barely draw. Man i got all depressed and wanted to delete my entire internet presence and never draw again just cos i lost when like LOL OF COURSE I DID I WAS A BABY GOING AGAINST ACTUAL ARTISTS. Ah nostalgia. Nostalgia for horrifyibg cringey bad moments of embarassment you can never fully escape.
Anyway in summary its good to have less dollars in things. Also its funny how many times you have historical games set in europey settings made in america yet the currency is always "gold pieces" or something instead.

Tanzania Safari Blog - 12 Things To Know Before You Go To Tanzania
Tumblr media
12 Things to know when you travel to Tanzania
1.Amazing landscapes
First of let me start with why you should visit Tanzania. It is flourished with natural wonders and has some of the most stunning geographical views one can witness. Whether you are a wildlife photographer or just love to capture nature’s essence with your phone to share on Instagram, every place to visit in Tanzania has amazing backdrops. You will be swept off your feet constantly: Africa at its best.
2. Best time to travel to Tanzania?
The best months for a Tanzania safari are from June to October, June and July for the wildebeest migration and January to February for calving season. In terms of the islandlife at Zanzibar then February is the hottest month when temperature rises to 28°C and July being the coldest when temperatures drop to around 24 °C. Pretty much Tanzania has a stable climate and it never gets really cold.
3. Currency Tanzania
The national currency is known as Tanzanian Shilling. The best foreign currency to carry to Tanzania is US dollars which is widely accepted and does not need to be exchanged. $1 is around 2,400 Tanzanian Shilling
4. Visa for Tanzania
Almost all countries where my blog readers come from will need a visa for Tanzania: United States, United Kingdom, all of Europe, Australia, India, etc. There is now the option to apply for the Tanzania electronic evisa, where you can apply online by filling out a form. For more information and how to get your Tanzania visa online click here. 5. Is it safe to travel to Tanzania
Although Tanzania is a safe destination for tourists, taking general precaution is advised. It is better to avoid isolated areas and always take official taxi’s. Book tours and trips from well-known companies and refrain from paying any additional fees in advance.
6. Wildlife, safari and the Great Migration
Animals in their natural habitat are either witnessed in an open zoo or on television by most people. But when you visit Tanzania it is possible to get a glimpse of one of the seven wonders Mother Nature. The great wildebeest migration is one of the best things to see in Tanzania and takes place in Serengeti National Park. It is a once in a lifetime chance for researchers and wildlife enthusiasts who dream of witnessing this spectacular event. It is the time when millions of wildebeest, zebras and antelopes end up on the south of Serengeti and move towards Ndutu in the Ngorongoro Conservation area. Between July and August thousands of wildebeest are awaited by hungry crocodiles as they try to cross the Mara River. It is also the time when thousands of baby calves are born thus creating more reasons for other predators like lions, cheetahs and hyenas to follow behind for hunting.
Tanzania is also home to the big five (lion, buffalo, elephant, rhino, leopard) and Selous Game Reserve, the world’s largest game reserve housing over 120,000 elephants, 160,000 buffaloes, about 2000 rhinos and a dense population of crocodiles, wild dogs and hippos. Needless to see that paying a visit to this National Park is one of the best things to do in Tanzania. How to get to the Serengeti
The best way to get to Serengeti is via the town of Arusha. When traveling to Tanzania you might want to fly into Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) next to Arusha.
Where to stay in the Serengeti
For those looking for a luxury experience you can book a luxury safari tent in Asanja Africa in Serengeti National Park for a mere $480 per night, meals included. Mapito Tented Camp Serengeti offers a tent for $315.
7. Hike at Kilimanjaro National Park
Situated in Kilimanjaro National Park is Africa’s highest mountain: Mt. Kilimanjaro, standing 5,895 m/19,341 ft. above sea level and is usually on top of the list for aspiring hikers visiting Tanzania. The inactive volcano consists of 3 cones named Kibo, Mawenzi and Shira and is climbed by about 7,5000 people every year so it is a safe try.  I wish I had already done it and I could tell you more about it in this Tanzania travel blog, but it still is on my list of things to do in Tanzania.
For people preferring a mini adventure trip there is Mount Meru, located 70 kilometers away from Mount Kilimanjaro. Far less challenging and can be climbed/hiked within 3 to 4 days. May be not that adventurous but nevertheless something to consider for your Tanzania trip.
8. Zanzibar: beaches and islands
Whether your are a honeymoon couple, a group of friends, travelling with family or flying solo, Zanzibar has a place for you. The beautiful island are one of the most popular places to visit in Tanzania and no wonder. Its crystal clear waters, stunning beaches and, stunning resorts, B&B’s and lodges make it a heavenly place on earth.
There are two popular Zanzibar beaches: Nungwi Beach and Kendwa Beach. Nungwi is a perfect spot for swimmers as the low tides and the calm waters are very inviting. On top of that beach parties are also held at Nungwi, which are unlike any other parties. Don’t expect cheesy Western songs here. African music rules on Nungwi Beach. When you travel to Zanzibar, this is a must do. Just a stone throw away is Kendwa beach, the ideal spot for families and more laid back visitors looking for pristine beaches. If you’re someone who likes to take a back seat and watch the sun set while sipping a cool drink, you’re going to love Kendwa. Take a long walk along the coastline and see local kids playing on the beach.
Don’t forget to take a trip to Stone Town, the islands capital. Once ruled by the Arabs and now a melt pot of different cultures. The Swahili culture took over, but the remains of the old days are still there: historic buildings, monuments, bath houses and mosques.
How to get to Zanzibar
Although there are ferries from the mainland when on a Tanzania holiday you don’t want to loose that much time traveling. There are direct flights from Arusha to Zanzibar.
Where to stay on Zanzibar
Aluna Beach Lodge, Nungwi offers bungalows with garden views for around $100 and at Papaya Guest House, Nungwi you can already book a superior double room for $45.
9. Meet the Maasai People
The noble Maasai tribe abides in villages close to Serengeti and Ngorongoro Conservation Area. They stand tall, flaunting a vivid red cloth known as the Shuka, the tribe’s traditional dress, and invite welcoming guests to come and explore their country and culture. These people have lived on for centuries without adopting the modern world where we live in today. Needless to say that this is one of the cultural highlights of Tanzania and could not be excluded in this Tanzania travel blog.
One of the coolest things to do in Tanzania is to jump with the Maasai people in a jumping ceremony. The males gather to a song and the highest jumper is announced as the winner. Great fun! 10. Food in Tanzania
Traditional African food is a fusion of Indian and Arab recipes. Zanzibar obviously has delicious seafood on offer. To taste the best freshly prepared seafood I can recommend you to go into the Stone Town night market where delicacies await to be tasted by the lively crowd. I read it myself in one of the many Tanzania blogs I researched before my trip and I think it was one of the best Tanzania travel tips I found.
If seafood is not your thing then try some native African cuisine such as Nyma Choma, prepared from grilled mutton, fish or chicken. It is often served with baked bananas on the side. Absolutely my favorites. Also try Pilau, a rice dish, which is heavily influenced by Indian style cooking and you know Indian food is my favorite. It is made from with either chicken, fish, mutton or hardboiled eggs, served with kachumbari, a salad prepared from onion, tomatoes and chili pepper. Can be spicy at times, just ask for it.
The street food is totally worth trying on your Tanzania trip and local markets are among the best places to visit in Tanzania to soak up some real culture.
 11. Souvenir shopping is lit
Most tourists don’t leave a destination without taking home some gifts and souvenirs and along your Tanzania trip there will be countless shopping options. The Tanzanite is a violet blue semi-precious gemstone native to Tanzania and cannot be found anywhere else in the world. It is mined from the depths of Mount Kilimanjaro. Be careful if this is of any interest of you as there are many fakes ones around. It can best be purchased from authorized retailers in Arusha, where it is sold at the right price, with an internationally recognized gem certification.
To shop for authentic Maasai merchandise checkout Maasai Market Curio and Crafts, situated in Arusha, selling handmade jewellery, baskets paintings and red checked blankets. Why don't health insurance companies compete on price like car insurance companies?
I was watching TV (something I rarely do) this weekend, and I noticed a fair number of car insurance commercials from various companies. They were touting their high level of service and low prices, and urging consumers to investigate and switch to their company. How come this doesn't appear to happen with health insurance? Is it because employers, rather than the actual people insured, shop for insurance in many cases? Is it because auto insurers are allowed to compete more freely across state borders? Are the basic expectations different when it comes to health insurance? Or, does competition already exist in the health insurance industry but the product is so much more expensive no matter what? Serious answers appreciated. Thanks.""

""Car insurance question. Help desperately needed, please!?""
Here's the situation. Before I start here, I will say I have never sold a car/transferred insurance in my life until now (I'm 37) and I'm panicking. (Please don't laugh; I am somewhat mentally disabled and have a hard time understanding business side of things). Please bear with me: I have a 2000 Chevrolet Malibu with 178,000 miles on it. Last Friday, my husband's brother decided to give his 2005 Hyundai Elantra (53,000 miles) to us as a free gift. We decided to sell the Malibu to some friends of ours (with whom we have been friends for quite a few years). My friends have already paid us and they have a Bill of Sale and next week we are getting a duplicate of the Chevy title in the mail (because we lost ours), at which time we will transfer. Here is where the confusion begins: My mother-in-law (who is a retired State Farm insurance agent) drew up a Bill of Sale that indicated as its last sentence at the end, Buyer will show proof of liability insurance at the time the car is received (or something like that; I don't have the Bill of Sale in front of me). We saw our friends today to get the Bill of Sale notarized (they already paid for the car; we're just waiting for the title for the Malibu to arrive via mail, as mentioned above). Their insurance agent is about 90 miles away, I find out, and will need pictures of the car. Our friends insist that my mother-in-law is just being a mom since we're new at such a transaction (our friends have owned and sold boats, cars, etc., so they are experienced at this, too), meaning that she's being overcautious by saying they need to present proof of liability insurance at the exact time I give them the keys to the car. So, once I give them the title and the keys, are they responsible for when they get the car insurance? My Hyundai is covered through my insurance agent (my mother-in-law called them and got coverage on it already), but she insists that I am not to get insurance verification on the Hyundai until the friends show proof of their insurance on the Malibu after they get possession of it. Is that correct, or is my mother-in-law just being overcautious? (I would think that once I switch the Malibu title to my friends' name and give them the keys, that would relieve me of any responsibility any longer to the Malibu). Help me, please. I am so confused; I have my mother-in-law telling me one thing, and my friends telling me another. Both sound correct. So would I be right if I did these (in this exact order): 1) switch the title over to their name & give them the keys to the Malibu. 2) call my insurance agent and report that I sold my Malibu, and ask them to type insurance vertification for the Hyundai. (would I have to be present in person for them to type the verification for the Hyundai? Also, would my report of me selling the Malibu mean that they would cancel the insurance on it immediately?) I am sorry this is so lengthy; I tried to explain this the best as I could. I just want to do what is correct in the eyes of the law.""

False Auto Insurance Claim Against A Friend?
A very close friend of mine received a call from his auto insurer yesterday regarding a 3rd party claim against him. According to the 3rd party, my friend hit their parked car (which was parked on the curb in front of their home), then parked his own car, went up to their house, rang their doorbell and exchanged insurance information. The 3rd party claims that this took place in a town that's more than 1 hour away from where we work and live. This allegedly happened 3 months ago. There are two major problems with this story: A- The alleged incident never happened. I carpool with my friend to and from work and was with him that night. B- The 3rd party has all of his insurance information. Could the insurance company have called the wrong person (i.e. gotten policy numbers mixed-up while processing the claim)? If not, how could a 3rd party have his insurance information? How common are fraudulent insurance claims (against another person)? And has anything similar happened to you or someone you know? My friend is a little worried because there is some minor damage to his rear bumper. We live in a major city and pretty much every 3rd car has nicks and scratches along the bumper from parking garage 'mysteries' and whatnot. Also, about 8 months ago, a young woman rear-ended us while we stationary, waiting to turn left at an intersection. Other than a scratch to his rear bumper caused by her license plate bolt, there was no cosmetic damage, and while we exchanged insurance information, my friend decided not to file a claim (she was very nice and didn't look as though she had a lot of money). I'd hate to think that it's her trying to commit fraud against him...""

Can we get cheap car insurance in the UK as Australians?

What is the best 4x4 as a first car? Also cheap to run.?
I live in a pretty rugged region, and, for my intended job as a country vet it would really help to have a car tough enough to cope with the bumps and ruts. Now I know that the best 4x4 overall is the land rover defender and, money permitting, of course I'd have one. But to run and insure nearly all 4x4s are massively expensive! So far I've considered the old rav 4, a suzuki ignis, or the old fiat panda 4x4 and as of yet, i prefer the latter as it seems cheap to run, cheap to insure and also has the practicality of being small but robust. So if there is any other car better suited to this, ideally as cheap as possible to buy, run and insure, then I'd really be glad of the help.""

I'm stuck paying for my own insurance but every other young adult is on their parents insurance until their 26. Is it because she has Medicaid not regular insurance? If yes, why?""
Are there any insurance companies that offer discounts for drivers of hybrid cars?
I know Traveler's does but their rates are really high to start with, so 10% off that is actually a ton more expensive than my regular insurance. I'm looking to insure a 2005 civic hybrid. (which for fair note I love!) Thanks in advance!""

Insurance company policy?
I was hit in a wreck. They're insurance company quoted me $400 and wrote me a check for it which I did not accept. All they did was look at the external damages. Then I took it to a dealer collision center and they quoted me $1100 and they guessed more damage was done but couldn't say unless they took apart my bumper. I'm not wanting to get it fixed in a shop since my father can fix it for me, but $400 is not going to cover the cost of fixing it. so my question is... Does their insurance company have to give me the money quoted by other body shops or is my only option having it fixed in a shop?""

I have insurance, just I don't need it on the car right now, I just want to get it home. Any help is appreciated. Thanks""

Car insurance question.?
My boyfriend and I are in the process of buying a car, it is going to be in his name only. We obviously have to get insurance on the car and he doesn't have a car at the moment so only has a non-owners policy. We have to show proof of full coverage. When we go get the insurance are we supposed to tell them it needs to be on the car we are buying? What info about the car do we need? Also he has a not so good driving record, can he list me as the primary driver if my name is not on the car? And if so, will that make insurance a little cheaper?""

We are wanting to start TTC, but we are a little worried about the cost of the actual birth and doctors expenses, as well as any complications that might arise.
