Every time AO3 starts trending on Tumblr and it’s NOT down I always get worried. Like what do you mean it’s not down??? What are we all doing here, then?

July 10, 2023 - AO3 is down. Supernatural trends.

Earlier today AO3 started experiencing issues which are said to be a result of a DDOS attack (essentially meaning that the sever is being flooded with traffic to disrupt it) [x]. The site has been down for a few hours so far which is causing panic, understandably so.

Good news is that data has not been compromised, bad news is that hurt/comfort readers will have to wait longer for the comfort part. Apart from the standard panic and distress which happens anytime AO3 is down, the side-effects now apparently include Supernatural trending.

This is most likely due to several Destiel News™ memes being shared along with the trending AO3 tag (currently trending at 1), but I'd like to think that posting about Supernatural is just another symptom of the collective temporary insanity caused by AO3 withdrawal.

i think for me right now, the appeal of dovesso lies in its understated nature: the acknowledgement that there's something there, the security of the knowledge of it. i think they're a pair who will always be equals, something that doesn't need to be stated to be known. (because isn't that the point of it all? to be equal? to know implicitly that the other is your equal?)

i'm not as much into the grand declarations of love as i was before. i think to a certain extent, my vision of lesso's characterisation stops me from enjoying them so much. (no hate but i keep thinking: would lesso say that?? would she really?? this applies to my old fic as well. would she really say that, come on.)

dovesso, to me, is the small gestures and the small kindnesses that no one talks about. the phrase in chinese i'm thinking of is 潜移默化: the slow and subtle influence someone exerts on you, the change they bring without you noticing. i think there's something romantic in that. to change the other by loving them. to not demand anything else of that love.

Fandom Frenzy: When AO3 Goes Down, the Internet Unites for a Global Therapy Session

Fellow fanfic enthusiasts and accidental scholars of the Great AO3 Outage of 2024! It appears our beloved Archive of Our Own has decided to take an unscheduled sabbatical(is this happening more frequently or is it just me?).SO, AO3 is down, yes..I am sure we all are aware and you surely don't have anything to do now... like you're (me too guys) literally on tumblr going thru the ao3/ao3 is down tag to read memes abt ur sorrow.

I remember using ao3 6 hrs ago when mid-fic ao3 suddenly puts the service- unavailable page up and I'm like, no biggy it will start in a few mins but then I doze off and even after waking up, it is still down... which I completely understand, servers do need downtime sometimes(After the DDOS attack of 2023, this is nothing) but that's not gonna make me not rant abt it... Anyways, whileAO3 has decided to take a little nap, and now you're left with a gaping void in your fanfiction-filled hearts....let's appreciate this fact , it surely does bring all the fandoms together in this recently found camaraderie .Yes, that’s right—every fandom, from Supernatural to Haikyuu to Star Wars to My Little Pony, has suddenly found itself in the same boat, drifting aimlessly on a sea of downtime. And SURELY I would be lying if I was the only one looking forward to all the memes we all share and the collective sorrow party we have here!!

THIS IS LITERALLY THE GREAT FANDOM CONVERGENCE.... LIKE HOW GLOBAL ORGANIZATIONS HAVE THESE YEARLY MEETINGS, I THINK AO3 BEING DOWN IS THE TIME FOR OUR MEETINGS LOL

A lot can be said about companies' attitudes towards fanart vs fanfiction but I'm willing to bet the reason why copyright lawsuits seem to often overlook one and not the other is because art is a good way to attach new audience (=profit) and fanfic isn't. You are significantly more likely to see a cool fanart and go check out the source material because of it than to see, and read, through a whole fanfic (which requires much more time, effort, and frankly, attention span) and check out the source material after. How often do you see "I don't even go there but I like this" type of feedback on fanfic vs fanart? Huge copyright holders turn a blind eye to fanart more because they benefit from it.

July 11, 2023 - Supernatural continues to trend amidst AO3 being down, this time with a destiel tag.

The volunteer AO3 staff have been working tirelessly to bring AO3 back and it's now working, after being unavailable for most of the day. The attack is believed to have been by a group of hackers who may have been behind similar attacks in the past, however not much information is available at this time. The group who some say is behind this is also believed to be lying about their motivations and affiliation [x], [x], [x].

Unfortunately, it also appears that someone is attempting to scam AO3 users by asking for donations. The real donation form is currently unavailable due to the recent attacks [x].

Good news is that the data wasn't compromised and the works are safe, so those who survived can now go back to their slowburns.

Is it just me guys? Or is it down??!! Like I remember trynna I was on ao3 like 6 hrs ago using it and suddenly..it went down and IT IS STILL DOWN!! Like WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO WITH MY LIFE NOW..Like should I live a life now(Nah , let's cry abt this together on tumblr or I will just lie down on the middle of the road)... fanfic.net will be my savior now lol...heck even wattpad will do..
