as jeno ran out, he began to look through the stampede of students, his eyes darting everywhere for you. there you were, in the middle of a conversation with gahyeon. he nervously approached you two.

“uh, h-hi!” he smiled, his eyes folding into crescents. you turned your head towards the boy, “oh hi jeno, what is it?”

“about our uh,” jeno cleared his throat awkwardly, “our date, it’s still on, right?” he asked, uncertain.

although you’re untrue,

“yeah of course! i haven’t forgotten, don’t worry.” the boy breathed a sigh of relief as he nodded, “okay! i’ll see you there!”

i’m attracted to you all the more.

almost an hour had passed. you weren’t there. jeno half-heartedly smiled at the waiter as the latter handed him his coffee. “uh- are you waiting for someone, sir?” the waiter asked awkwardly, pointing to the other seat.

why do you build me up, buttercup?

“yeah but i’m not sure if they’re coming.” the waiter gave a sympathetic smile to the boy, when the former headed back to the kitchen, jeno stiffly pulled out his phone, pressing a couple buttons as it began to dial a number.

baby, just to let me down?

“what is it, jeno?”

“i think they stood me up, jaemin.”

the next day, jeno decided to confront you about it. “oh i’m so sorry! i was going to go but then things happened, the car broke down and yeah.” you lied, in all honesty, you had just forgotten about the date but jeno was a sweetheart and you didn’t want to say the truth.

“it’s fine! it happens, would you be okay with rescheduling?” you perked up, you had stood up many people in your time but never did anyone try rescheduling. with a shrug, you replied, “sure.”

jeno lit up, “would my house tomorrow, at 5 be fine?” tomorrow was a weekend so he doubted there would be any problems. “yeah, of course.”

i run to the door,

an hour and a half went by, it was around 6:37 pm now and there was no sight of you there. jeno pursed his lips, before the doorbell rang. he perked up at the sound, bolting to the door. but as he opened it, instead of you being there, there was only the pizza delivery man.

i can’t take it anymore, it’s not you,

jeno’s smile fell as he sighed, he took the pizza from the man and gave him some money before slamming the door shut. “did something happen again?” he wondered out loud, falling back on the couch as he opened the box.

you let me down again.

parts of the pizza had slid to the left side, causing it to look deformed and sad. with a small sigh, jeno took a slice, taking a bite as he chewed on it emotionlessly.

the months went by like this, jeno would ask you out on yet another date and you’d agree. he’d get all ready then wait for you but you wouldn’t show up. then you’d make up some bullshit excuse. 

“sorry, my dog died and my sister got really sad so i had to comfort her.

“sorry, i lost my way and my phone battery had ran out.”

“sorry, i was really behind on some assignments and had to do them quickly, or else mr. yang would have failed me and i don’t want to disappoint my parents.”

jeno was understanding and he was always willing to try again. he was starting to get suspicious though, he was a little tired of getting stood up. this has happened way too many times for it to just be a coincidence.

many wondered why jeno was still so resilient with you, why he didn’t give up and why he didn’t ever get fed up with it. truth is, he is. but he loves you, and will keep trying however long it takes.

why do you build me up, buttercup?

today, you two had plans at 8, to head over to a small restaurant nearby. jeno had come early, as usual and was on his phone, waiting patiently.

baby, just to let me down.

time passed, the other customers left as new ones arrived but jeno was still there. jeno got nervous as he sighed, he couldn’t even keep count of how many times you had stood him up, for the number would be too high.

he had called you time and time again yet it always went straight to voicemail. “hey kid, the restaurant’s closing.” a staff member approached him, jeno apologised, taking his belongings and paying for the bill.

and mess me around,

as the boy walked outside, he felt a small cold droplet land on his head. then another one and another. before he knew it, the rain was pelting at him, he let out small shivers as the coldness engulfed him.

and then worst of all, you never call baby, when you say you will.

he tried again, dialing your number but once again, voicemail. he wanted to get angry, his patience level was dropping but he couldn’t. after all, you’re not his and you never will be.

but i love you, still.

A gravedigger/ groundskeeper shares his stories and experiences on the job

Sometimes spooky crap happens that you just cant explain. A man walked up to us as we were throwing the canvas over the dirt trailer and commented on how beautiful of a resting place it was. We assumed he was a part of the family that was currently holding visitation and told him we were sorry for his loss and agreed that it was a beautiful spot. Later on, when the crew walked through the funeral home to get to the lounge for lunch, we all saw the picture they had set out for the guy that had died. It was the same man that had just came to the burial site a few hours before. He didnt have a twin, and no one else in the family looked that much like him. That kind of crap stays with you. Chills you to the bone.

The only other time this happened to me. I was cleaning off some headstones and cleaning up the grounds when a little girl caught my eye. She was playfully wandering around and looked happy. But I didnt see any adults around so I figured she had wandered outside from the funeral home. I took my gloves off because I was about to go on break, and figured I would ask where her parents were on my way to the building. I turned around and set the gloves down. When I turned back around, she was gone. A few weeks later, I helped set a picture plaque onto a headstone, and it was 100% the same little girl I had seen. Again, another thing I can never explain.

If a grave is sloping down a hillside or sinking too much, we get permission to move them to more level and stable ground. This particular grave was one of the first that had been in the cemetery, and the dates read april 1871-august 1877. Back then they buried their dead in pine/wood boxes. We had to move this grave as it was in a bad flooding spot on the grounds and just kept sinking further down every year. When we got to the coffin. The top had caved in and you could see the remains of the little boy curled up into a ball. That gave me chills like nothing else. We figure they unintentionally buried him alive, and when he woke, didnt know what to do, and eventually just curled up in a ball and died. You could see his little skeletal hands wrapped around his knees. I’ll never forget that.

Turns out this guy was pissed that he was left out of the will, and came to the cemetery to show his disrespect to his grandmothers grave. I dont care what that person did to you. If you try to kick anyones headstone over, im kicking you in the nuts and calling the cops.

Unfortunately, this happens more than you would think. We started the morning mowing the grounds. I went to mow the far end of the grounds first, but stopped when I noticed a person laying at the edge of the woods. Upon closer inspection, it was clear that the person had committed suicide (gunshot to the head) they did find a suicide note, but we never learned why he did it there. I assume he lost a loved one and just wanted out of the pain. Or maybe wanted to make sure he was found by someone other than family. Makes you sad, man.

Good ol’ Don. He’s a nice guy. He brings the crew lunch some sundays. Because every sunday, he and his wife would go out to lunch after church. He is there every Sunday to read to her from the Bible and put fresh flowers down. He’s a sweet old man and has been coming there every Sunday for as long as I’ve worked there. he tells us stories about their life together and gives that sad, longing kind of smile when he’s done. True love man. You cant deny that good ol’ Don was truly in love with Mrs Margie.

This one freaked EVERYONE out. A teen who had been killed in a car accident (19 I believe) was being lowered into the grave when we all heard a thumping noise coming from inside the casket. You could of heard a pin drop it got quiet so fast. Of course the director Re-opens the casket. Turns out the family buried him in the jacket he was wearing in the accident (dont ask why, i dont know) and the thumping was a ringtone he had set for an alarm that day. They had been looking for his phone, and somehow the battery had lasted the whole damn time, but the phone was on silent. That is, until his scheduled alarm went off. The mother almost passed out, because she thought her son had come back to life or something. It was really heartbreaking to witness.

Not sure if its teens being stupid or if people actually perform rituals to try to bring people back or are doing some other crazy crap, but we clear off at least one grave a month.

So, again, on the other side of the cemetery is where most of the early graves are. And it floods a lot over there. Another grave started sinking and sloping to one side of the hill. Same case with this woman. We hoist the wood box up and the lid slides off the top. And to our horror, there are claw marks. And I mean tons of them, on the inside of the lid of the coffin. This poor lady was unintentionally buried alive around 1900, had obviously woken up buried alive, and tried like hell to get out, but she didnt. Another one I’ll never forget.

entry three - 4/10/2022

after many days of a wifi outage, i return to my little blog. there is a cynic inside my head that says, “not like anyone reads this blog, anyway,” but i choose to ignore them. i will allow myself to feel welcome in this echo chamber that i’ve built for myself. it becomes more comforting every time i use it.

i think i have touched on this lightly before, but i am autistic. i am self diagnosed, and unashamedly so. it took a lot of research and talking to come to the conclusion that i am autistic, and to apply autism to my personal experiences and intersections, and i may talk about it more in depth another time. but, lightly speaking, my brain has more words than my mouth can ever say. it is almost magical, actually, it IS magical, the way that i can type nonstop into a box and when im done, when my back is aching from being hunched over and my fingers are still twitching off pure muscle memory, and my brain has been thoroughly soothed by the sound of a good keyboard-- i’ve done it. i’ve created something messy, incomprehensible to others, but very cohesive to me. something real. i feel heard by my echo chamber. so welcome back, ten. 

today i will talk about two things and it may or may not be long. In 29 days, give or take, i am moving back to my hometown. other important counting-- in 235 days is december, the month i meet my boyfriend. in 227 days is my 21st birthday. 

when i left hinesville, i was a college freshman facing a global pandemic head on, and even with all of the issues that came with living alone i promised i would never go back there. moving from hinesville to columbus was hell. i experienced a lot of firsts all on my own. first flat tire, first dead car battery, first flare up rash that called for a solo trip to the ER. i was raped here, twice, once being... very recently. just some weeks ago. i cried enough tears to fill up the river that surrounds the music school i spent so much time and energy in. i started to think, and i still think, that columbus is a bad omen. im not meant to live here and im being pushed out. its the only explanation for so much hardship. 

i lived in columbus as a child. we moved, to my rememberance, from columbus to hinesville, and then as an adult i moved back. hinesville is my hometown though it is not my first town, because it is the town and i grew and developed in. i can show you every corner, like no where else. its the closest thing to a home area i know. i thought that maybe it would be comforting to go back, but i could still feel the heaviness and hardship i left behind. even then, i was starting a new life as an adult in school and i thought i could do it. a year later im a music school drop out, poor and struggling and ready to leave. life comes at you fast.

so yes, i am running away. i give up. i surrender to columbus georgia and all its weird energy. i am going back to my moms house where i wont have rent and where i’ll always have food and supplies. it’s only right. i need to fix my credit and reset my life and get back into college, i cant do that if im struggling to survive. i am running from people who hurt me, from people that i hurt, i am running. running is not bad. running is exercise. and when i get to where im going i’ll stop running. 

i have been watching a lot of grey’s anatomy. im on season 9, the episode where Christina leaves seattle. She tells Meredith that too much has happened to them. friends dying, a shooting, a plane crash, she feels like its cursed. it took more from her than it gave. Meredith replies that personally, it took just as much from her as it gave. Christina was drained by Seattle, but Seattle was Meredith’s balance. I am drained by columbus. That’s why i am going home.

I struggle with the prospect of going back to my moms house. Me and my mom often bump heads. We dont see things the same way. And also, it’s horrifying to think that I may see someone i once knew well, someone i havent talked to in forever because i just didnt want to. hinesville was where i met my two closest friends, both of which i no longer speak to anymore. outgrew my hinesville friends, my hinesville boyfriend, i am a city person now. i have a new lover who i’ll marry in a fancy dress one day. and i have a new perspective. and im happy. but i know that growth is lonely. when i go home theres no one to call and say “im back” to. 

my mom says return is not failure, it is just a reset, recalibration. im starting to understand what she means. i have to shed my teenaged perspective of hometown in order to be happy. i have to be an adult, starting a new chapter in an old place transformed-- a place that has boomed with new people and new things since i last went-- vs a teenager scraping her way out of a dead end place. i’ll turn 21 there. i’ll go to the bar. i’ll go to a club, ill meet new people, ill live life as an adult there and not a kid. it’s a different life and it’ll be a happier life. mom says i dont have to work for the first two months. she says i can rest. nothing makes me happier. hopefully i can get a job at the health food store. i always really wanted to work there. or maybe something similar, idk. 

i am just looking forward to it all. in december, my boyfriend is coming to visit. we originally planned for summer but it didnt work out that way. i was hurt but december is better. gives us more time to plan something solid. i am so excited to see him and love him up close. and i will. everything will go smoothly and im excited for that, for something in my life to be easy and smooth. he is easy to love. he is good to love, too. 

i am excited to cook in the kitchen. and have money in the bank. and see lamar, and hold him. im excited to see my cat and my family. im excited to pay my debt to my school and transfer to another school. im excited to start living a life free of so much of this pain that comes with living in this apartment. im excited. im happy. i am lucky. i am blessed. and i am hopeful.

i dont think i really want to talk about the other thing today, im a bit tired of being at the computer. maybe another time. to everyone out there-- take care.

i n t r o : A good looking barista who made the best Iced Americano and a pretty law student who spent her time drowning in books in his cafe, a love that blossomed over a cup of coffee. Will they eventually grow to love each other, especially when they have feelings for each other that felt like a caffeine rush?

“What can I get you?” The girl behind the counter asked. “A large Iced Americano and a bagel, please.” The girl nodded and passed your order to the barista, before handing you your bagel. You thanked her briefly and grabbed your mountain of books to find a seat.

You settled for your favourite seat, the single sofa seat facing a wall, where your right side was by the window. It was always empty and nobody could asked if your opposite seat was taken because there was none. You put your bag and books on the table before you heard your order. “Large Iced Americano.” A husky voice said.

You walked over and the barista handed you your drink. You guys shared a brief eye contact before you walked back to your seat. That was the handsome barista that the college girls came flocking for, and you noted his name was Jihoon. He was in Music school, while you were in Law school.

You too, was also quite the head-turner. A lot of guys come to the café you studied at to watch you for hours, and numerous times, tried to buy you drinks. Most of the times, you rejected the drinks and went straight back into studying but that didn’t stop them.

You usually go to the café after class and leave before they close. Today was just like any other day, you were busy studying for another exam. You were writing an essay and eating your bagel when you saw someone dragged a chair to your right from your peripheral vision.

It was one of the guys from Medicine school. You remembered because your best friend from their course dragged on about how they were only there because their parents donated a new lab to the school. You looked at him and he smirked but you rolled your eyes and returned to your work.

“Hey there. Here’s an Iced Americano, you always ordered the same drink and since it was finishing, I figured I buy you another cup.” He slid the Iced Americano over to you and walked away to sit with his friend in the next table. You looked at the drink and sighed. “What harm could it do anyways?” You were too lazy to go get another one yourself, and it was free, so why not?

You were about to take a sip out of the drink when someone grabbed the drink out of your hand. “Hey!” You said, in shock. You looked at the culprit and it was that barista, Jihoon. “He drugged this.” He said, staring dead in your eyes. “Man, what are you talking about?” The guy said from behind.

The guy and his friend stood up and walked infront of Jihoon, as if asking for a fight. I grabbed the drink and stood in the middle of them. “What makes you confident that he drugged this drink?” Jihoon rolled his eyes, “I made the damn drink and he poured it at the counter. You can ask Cheryl over there.” He pointed to the girl behind the counter and you shared eye contact with her.

She nodded promptly, and you sighed. “Fine. If you are so confident you didn’t drug this, have a sip.” You said, passing the drink to the guy. “If this is proven true, I can sue you of Battery. A criminal offence where any unlawful touching of the person of another by the aggressor himself, or by a substance put in motion by him. It is also considered assault.”

“RCW 9A.36.021 provides that someone who "administers to or causes to be taken by another, poison or any other destructive or noxious substance" is guilty of Assault in the Second Degree. This includes sedatives or other sedating type drugs within this definition. This is a class B felony and is punishable by imprisonment up to 10 years.” Everyone in the room was stunned by your speech.

“So, are you going to make me sue you for assault and battery or apologize to me and the barista?” You asked the two guys, with heads hanging low. “They don’t have to apologize to me-“ You stopped Jihoon. “They do, they ruined a good barista’s coffee.” You raised your eyebrows before the two meds students apologized and walked out of the café in embarrassment.

After that shenanigans, you returned to doing your work and a few hours later, the waitress lady, Cheryl, put an Iced Americano on your table. You stopped her in her tracks, “But I didn’t order this?” She smiled, “It’s on the barista, he said you looked stressed out.” She said promptly and walked away, and you saw the barista looking over, sharing eye contact before turning away.

Soon after, it was time for closing. You packed your bags and left the café, but decided to wait for the barista to thank him for helping you and the free drink. After maybe 20 mins, the café door swinged open and you saw Cheryl walk out. She noticed you and walked to you.

“You’re still here?” She asked, confused. She was a senior in Theatre, living in the same block as you, and it seems she knows that you leave to the dorms straight after leaving the café. “Yeah, I’m waiting for the b-barista.“ She smiled, “Ah Jihoon? Be nice to him. He’s a bit of shy but he does like you.” You blushed at her words and she giggled.

“Ah puppy love. The name’s Cheryl by the way. See you tomorrow.” You thanked her and she left promptly. The cute barista has a crush on you? Well I’d be damned.. You waited for another 20 mins before the door swung open again. You saw that it was Jihoon, wearing headphones and humming.

He walked towards the carpark and you followed behind before tapping his shoulder. He turned around and saw that it was you, removing his headphones. “It’s you.” He said, turning to face you. “Hey, I just wanted to say.. Thanks for earlier. For telling me it was drugged.”

He gave a small laugh, and he smiled. “It’s a pleasure. I can’t let my regular customer fall into a trap infront of my eyes.” You blushed a little at his words and you thanked him again. “Oh! And thank you for that free Iced Americano..” You looked down, blushing heavily.

He smiled, “You’re welcome. It was.. for calling me a good barista.” You looked up to him smirking before both of you broke out in laughter. “Did you mean it though, that I’m a good barista?” He asked, and even in the dark you could see that tint of red on his cheeks.

“Of course I did. You make the best Iced Americanos.” He smiled and the both of you just enjoyed a moment of silence in each other’s presence. “It’s getting late.. I should get going.” You said and Jihoon nodded before he spoke again. “Your dorm is a 20 minute walk away, and it seems there isn’t any car here.. How are you going back?” He asked. Crap, you forgot. “Ah, I walk home everyday. It’s not that far.” You smiled and Jihoon’s face dropped. “There’s no way I’m letting you walk back alone to the dorm alone.”

And somehow, you guys ended up in his car, him driving you back. “Wait, how did you know I stay at this dorm?” You looked at him, a bit weirded out. He pulled the brakes and turned off the engine before he looked at you, “I sent Cheryl-nuna home once. I saw you in your PJ’s eating our bagel infront of the vending machine.”

He what?! You blushed and he laughed it off. “Let’s go.” He grabbed your books and started walking towards the dorm. You followed after him and tried to take your books, but he snatched it right back. “I got it. You waited 40 mins for me, this is nothing.” You walked behind him, blushing.

He walked you to your dorm room, and you invited him in. He plopped the heavy stack of books on your table, and looked around, noting how neat it was with a world map pinned right by your bed and pots of plants round your table. It was minimalistic, yet aesthetic.

“Thank you for today Jihoon, you didn’t have to.” You smiled and he smiled back, “Of course I did. It was nothing.” The both of you looked in each others eyes before breaking into laughter. “I guess I should go, it’s getting late.” You nodded and walked him to the door.

“Would you like to, you know, exchange numbers?” Jihoon asked, and you are 138721% sure you saw him blush. “Of course, why not?” You gave him your phone and he gave you his, and you both saved each other’s contacts. “I saved myself under The Good Barista.” You laughed, rolling your eyes.

“You’re never going to let me live it down huh? I’m Law Dictionary with a cup of coffee emoji.” The both of you laughed at the ridiculous contact names before smiling at the silence. “Have a good night Jihoon, see you tomorrow.” You smiled and he nodded. “You too.”

You took a deep breath and kissed his cheek. “Drive safe, text me when you’re home.” He smiled, blushing. He leaned in to kiss your forehead, “I will princess. Good night, see you tomorrow.” He closed the door and you just started silently screaming. “That did not just happen.” You pinched yourself, trying to come back to reality. “Ow.. That hurts…”

She turns toward him cheaply smiles and the music changes up again and they sit in silence once more a soft but chilled voice echoes through the speakers and the windows get more foggier where the view of the city almost becomes a blur

Why would not having central climate control be a disqualifying factor in getting home insurance coverage? I bought a car off of my coworker a few months back, and everything is in my name. I had paid for insurance but I was going through a rough patch and it lapsed. My mother, whom is living with me, decided to be nice and pay for a month of insurance, through a new company. This is a new policy, as my old one had lapsed. Recently though, my mother and myself have had a falling out. She's holding my car over my head. She says since she paid for a month of insurance she has free reign over using my car. The car is in my name, and as far as I'm aware based on documents the insurance is as well. The only difference is she paid for that one month of insurance for me. And that month she paid for is still active. So like I said, she is holding the car over my head. I left my house the other night with my car key so she couldn't use it - This is after everyone I asked that I knew told me to take the keys. She is also living with me, I am renting the home. She is making threats through text messages saying that if I don't return the car key she will cancel my policy. Is that possible for her to do? She just paid for a month of insurance, and I believe I'm completely in control of my policy. I don't believe it can be cancelled through her calling. Is that possible? Anyone know? So not only do I own the car, I also rent the house. Legally I don't believe she can hold my own car over my head. Also, to add... After taking my keys, I left my home and went to a my girlfriends to get away for a while. Since I have taken my car keys, she has taken and hid my car battery to insure that I am unable to remove my car from my property. I reserved a rental car in California with Enterprise. The price was $9.99/day because of a weekend deal . When I checked in at the counter the agent told me that I needed to either provide proof of FULL COVERAGE insurance or purchase their insurance (which would raise my daily rate from $9.99 to $40)!! If I didn't do either then they wouldn't let me rent a car. I thought that was ridiculous and decided not to rent a car. I bought a car off of my coworker a few months back, and everything is in my name. I had paid for insurance but I was going through a rough patch and it lapsed. My mother, whom is living with me, decided to be nice and pay for a month of insurance, through a new company. This is a new policy, as my old one had lapsed. Recently though, my mother and myself have had a falling out. She's holding my car over my head. She says since she paid for a month of insurance she has free reign over using my car. The car is in my name, and as far as I'm aware based on documents the insurance is as well. The only difference is she paid for that one month of insurance for me. And that month she paid for is still active. So like I said, she is holding the car over my head. I left my house the other night with my car key so she couldn't use it - This is after everyone I asked that I knew told me to take the keys. She is also living with me, I am renting the home. She is making threats through text messages saying that if I don't return the car key she will cancel my policy. Is that possible for her to do? She just paid for a month of insurance, and I believe I'm completely in control of my policy. I don't believe it can be cancelled through her calling. Is that possible? Anyone know? So not only do I own the car, I also rent the house. Legally I don't believe she can hold my own car over my head. Also, to add... After taking my keys, I left my home and went to a my girlfriends to get away for a while. Since I have taken my car keys, she has taken and hid my car battery to insure that I am unable to remove my car from my property. I'm at a loss.

So, yesterday was my little sisters birthday. When i say little sister i mean half, and i only say half so that you understand when i say we haven't seen one another enough to be closer. Well, with that being said i had no clue it was her birthday until after my family made plans to go to my husbands best friends daughters birthday party. And i wouldve never known it was my sisters birthday if my great grandmother didnt give me the "you better see her, her moms taking her to North Carolina for good." So ofcourse i tried to over exert myself by trying to do it all when really i just wanted to be lost in a black hole. Forgive me for being selfish, when your a mom selfishness seems even more evil. So i said you know what im going to go to this birthday for my husband, then I'll pick Lena up and we'll have a sleep over. On the way to the birthday party i just wasn't myself. Because i just wanted to be alone. I wanted to make myself understand that what was happeneing with my grandma was real. On the way home from the birthday i remember stopping at this stop light and looking over. To my right was this old white lady driving, and her old black friend riding. And in that moment i thought "why do you get to wear that age? Why do you get to be 75 to 80? What did you do? Did you save lives? Console people? Were you a good person at all?" I sat there and in that moment, stripped those women down to just purposes and it was wrong. I thought to myself how nothing they did could amount to the person you are. And i wasnt sorry for it. I got home, dropped off my husband and went to pick up my little sister. Because if i didnt- I'd be the worst, even though i knew i wasnt up for it. I took her to walmart to pick out her own gift, whatever she wanted but it had to be a necklace. Her eyes were fixated on crosses and i felt guilty when i asked what about thise heart , "No, you have a cross, i want a cross like you." Yeah guilty. Only if she knew the mental warfare going on in my mind about my faith. I think God is sighing. But, i got her the cross anyhow. I wanted to get her a necklace so that when she moved and was upset or confused, shed do what i did. Close my eyes, grab my necklace and breath. Granted i always thought about my grandma and her peace when i grabbed mine, and she shouldn't grab hers and think of me because im not quite knitted right now. We got home and i just gave up on trying to be the cool older sister. I agreed to get up early and do pottery instead. So i got up at 8:30, woke her up and the thing needed batteries, ofcourse i was so wrapped up in thinking i didnt read the thing! But she thought sleeping in was better any ways. So as she laid back down i get a text from my mom. "Grandma is in the hospital". So i called. Fluid in her lungs and stomach she says. Doctors pumped 4 big bottles out and she feels better, but that wasnt a good sign. Ofcourse. Its a sign of the times. I thought trying to get out of my head and into a song thatd distract me. And ofcourse i did what i always do. I asked a 1000 questions. Which always pisses my mom off. And to think of it i do that to find a solution. Like when you walk in a room and play out scenarios and what you'd do if they happened. I try to find an escape route for this thing thats hurting her. And get frustrated when I'm met with "no sheyene i dont know.I'm gonna let you go sheyene." I picked my head up and kept trying. I walked in the room, got julian dressed and lena ready to go get lunch and to head to my nanas. Because i didnt know what else to say. I didnt wanna talk at all. I don't still. So i thought nana can distract us, put us to work ot just simply talk so Lena doesnt feel so awkward being with someone not saying much. I'm with nana for a few hours until my mom calls. I answer but she sniffling so bad my heart dropped, "mom you have to stop crying so i can understand you. Whats going on??" It takes her a second, i walk to my car. "It's stage three right now sheyene, Brittany was right. " i asked what the treatment plan was. She told me they wont know until tomorrow if its stage four but if it is there is no surgery. Only chemo. No i said. I said what do u mean? They can do chemo then surgery to remove whats left. She started to get louder no they cannot sheyene the shit spreads ok. "Mom you're not around grandma are you?" She wasn't.I knew she was hurt. But i wanted to know why were they not gonna try everything. I let het off the phone. Cried. Then decided to call my grandma. I asked her how she was doing. She said better, she can actually lay on her sides which she hasn't done for months. I asked her if she was worried, "no but everyone else seems to be". I wanted to tell her i wasn't that i knew she was strong. But i was. So i said as long as youre not grandma then you'll be okay because you're spirit has to be right for you to fight this. She repeated how she was able to lay on her side for the first time in a while. I then asked why didn't you tell us you were hurting this bad ive seen you alot and you never told me. "Because i was trying to handle it". That hurt. That hurt alot but i dropped the questions and let her know id be up there this week. Maybe sit through a chemo with her. Not once did i think maybe she doesnt wanna do chemo. My grandma is in her 50s. Shes not over her life enough to say well she lived a good one. No. Shes young. And for someone so dedicated to helping everyone, paying everyone's way, a lover of God. I just dont understand. And as i drive home, because i couldn't save face anymore or try to be a hostess i just wanna wreck everything. I wanna fight something i cannot see. Something i do not completely understand. I wanna break everything because i wanna feel my hands change something. And im just confused.

Sometimes spooky crap happens that you just cant explain. A man walked up to us as we were throwing the canvas over the dirt trailer and commented on how beautiful of a resting place it was. We assumed he was a part of the family that was currently holding visitation and told him we were sorry for his loss and agreed that it was a beautiful spot. Later on, when the crew walked through the funeral home to get to the lounge for lunch, we all saw the picture they had set out for the guy that had died. It was the same man that had just came to the burial site a few hours before. He didnt have a twin, and no one else in the family looked that much like him. That kind of crap stays with you. Chills you to the bone.

The only other time this happened to me. I was cleaning off some headstones and cleaning up the grounds when a little girl caught my eye. She was playfully wandering around and looked happy. But I didnt see any adults around so I figured she had wandered outside from the funeral home. I took my gloves off because I was about to go on break, and figured I would ask where her parents were on my way to the building. I turned around and set the gloves down. When I turned back around, she was gone. A few weeks later, I helped set a picture plaque onto a headstone, and it was 100% the same little girl I had seen. Again, another thing I can never explain.

If a grave is sloping down a hillside or sinking too much, we get permission to move them to more level and stable ground. This particular grave was one of the first that had been in the cemetery, and the dates read april 1871-august 1877. Back then they buried their dead in pine/wood boxes. We had to move this grave as it was in a bad flooding spot on the grounds and just kept sinking further down every year. When we got to the coffin. The top had caved in and you could see the remains of the little boy curled up into a ball. That gave me chills like nothing else. We figure they unintentionally buried him alive, and when he woke, didnt know what to do, and eventually just curled up in a ball and died. You could see his little skeletal hands wrapped around his knees. I’ll never forget that.

Turns out this guy was pissed that he was left out of the will, and came to the cemetery to show his disrespect to his grandmothers grave. I dont care what that person did to you. If you try to kick anyones headstone over, im kicking you in the nuts and calling the cops.

Unfortunately, this happens more than you would think. We started the morning mowing the grounds. I went to mow the far end of the grounds first, but stopped when I noticed a person laying at the edge of the woods. Upon closer inspection, it was clear that the person had committed suicide (gunshot to the head) they did find a suicide note, but we never learned why he did it there. I assume he lost a loved one and just wanted out of the pain. Or maybe wanted to make sure he was found by someone other than family. Makes you sad, man.

Good ol’ Don. He’s a nice guy. He brings the crew lunch some sundays. Because every sunday, he and his wife would go out to lunch after church. He is there every Sunday to read to her from the Bible and put fresh flowers down. He’s a sweet old man and has been coming there every Sunday for as long as I’ve worked there. he tells us stories about their life together and gives that sad, longing kind of smile when he’s done. True love man. You cant deny that good ol’ Don was truly in love with Mrs Margie.

This one freaked EVERYONE out. A teen who had been killed in a car accident (19 I believe) was being lowered into the grave when we all heard a thumping noise coming from inside the casket. You could of heard a pin drop it got quiet so fast. Of course the director Re-opens the casket. Turns out the family buried him in the jacket he was wearing in the accident (dont ask why, i dont know) and the thumping was a ringtone he had set for an alarm that day. They had been looking for his phone, and somehow the battery had lasted the whole damn time, but the phone was on silent. That is, until his scheduled alarm went off. The mother almost passed out, because she thought her son had come back to life or something. It was really heartbreaking to witness.

Not sure if its teens being stupid or if people actually perform rituals to try to bring people back or are doing some other crazy crap, but we clear off at least one grave a month.

So, again, on the other side of the cemetery is where most of the early graves are. And it floods a lot over there. Another grave started sinking and sloping to one side of the hill. Same case with this woman. We hoist the wood box up and the lid slides off the top. And to our horror, there are claw marks. And I mean tons of them, on the inside of the lid of the coffin. This poor lady was unintentionally buried alive around 1900, had obviously woken up buried alive, and tried like hell to get out, but she didnt. Another one I’ll never forget.
